CNAF Kid's Race Comes to Peterborough Speedway

Summer's arrival brings with it the next leg of Peterborough Speedway's 2025 schedule. Saturday, June 21st, the Canadian National Autism Foundation presents Kid's Race.

Kid's Race was started in 2010 as an idea to create a new platform for Autism research and awareness. It wasn't too long after speaking with – and working alongside track owners, officials, drivers, crews and fans – that a common bond was formed. Everyone associated with the event quickly realized that passion, dedication, family and a love for what they do is something that everyone shared. Peterborough Speedway track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says that Autism Awareness Night – Saturday, June 21st – will be an informative and educational event for everyone who comes through the gates.

"Our drivers, teams, crew members, sponsors and fans are quick to throw their support behind a worthwhile cause," Josiasse said. "Even if a member of your immediate family hasn't been affected by autism, you probably know someone who has. Whatever you can do to help the Canadian National Autism Foundation is a win-win for everyone involved,"

This weekend's race action will include the home track SwitchTire Mini Stock, Trent Lakes Complete Pluming Renegade Truck, KOD Disposal Late Model and Junior Late Model divisions, plus the year's only appearance by the Can-Am TQ Midgets. Grandstand gates open at 5:00, with racing at 6:00.

Saturday, June 28th Pepsi presents the season's 2nd Double Toonie/Fan Appreciation Night, with Bone Stock, Mini Stock, Super Stock and Late Model racing, plus the Trailers Plus Ontario Legend Car Series. Grandstand admission is $ 4.00. Gates open at 4:00, green flag at 5:00.

Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Trucks will be on hand for Autism Awareness Night – Saturday, June 21st – at Peterborough Speedway. The first green flag flies at 6:00.

Can-Am TQ Midgets will make their only appearance of the 2025 schedule during Autism Awareness Night – Saturday, June 21st – at Peterborough Speedway. Gates open at 5:00, with racing at 6:00.

The crowd favourite Junior Late Models will return to the schedule during Autism Awareness Night, in support of the Canadian National Autism Foundation – Saturday, June 21st – at Peterborough Speedway.

Durgan Win First Career Sportsman Modified Feature at Airborne Park

Plattsburgh, NY- It was a special Saturday night "Topless for Dad" event in honor of Father's Day at the Airborne Park Speedway sponsored by Hebert Lawn Care and Drapeau Sanitation, and it turned out to be extra special for one driver. Caleb Durgan, an up-and-coming wheelman from Morrsionville, NY, got to celebrate his first career win in an emotional victory lane with dad after dominating the 30-lap J&S Steel feature for the sportsman modifieds. The Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modifieds were also on hand for their annual visit to "The Big A" along with the pro stocks.

Durgan and Matt Leonard brought the field to the green flag, with Durgan taking command right away. Behind the leader, Brent Warren moved to second before the caution flag flew on lap 10. A battle ensued for second after the restart between Leonard, Warren, and Vince Quenneville Jr. Meanwhile, Fire Swamp was on the move from the 10th starting spot, as was Codie Aubin from the 12th position on the grid. A restart on lap 13 saw Michael Wright move to second and Aubin to third. Durgan had to fend off one more challenge with another restart on lap 18, and pulled away from Swamp and Aubin to collect the momentous win. Swamp crossed the line second, Aubin third, Nick Heywood fourth, and Quenneville fifth. Heat winners were Cory Castell, Michael Wright, and Durgan.

Speaking of young, upstart drivers, Chazy High School student Kobe Hernandez rolled to his second win of the season in the Hoosier Racing Tire limited sportsman division. Hernandez began on the outside of row one and led from start to finish. Gary English, who has been the man to beat with three wins on the season, saw his chances dampened after he was sent off of turn one after contact with the Matthew Jordan machine. With English battling issues with his car from the accident, Hernandez drove off into the night and was never threatened. Parker Dermody placed second, Winston Forbes third, Matt Little fourth, and Alex Reif fifth. Hernandez also won the lone heat race.

The pro stocks were making their second appearance of the season, and a hometown driver made short work of the field. Plattsburgh's Zack Daniels started from the pole and cruised to a flag-to-flag victory. Several drivers made a bid to challenge Daniels, but he was just too stout. Kyle Hoard gave chase early, with Denis Gauvreau moving to the runner-up spot at the midway point. A scrum between Gauvreau and Marc LaLonde sent Gauvreau backwards as LaLonde took over the second spot. It didn't matter. No one had anything for Daniels as he drove away for the win. LaLonde, Bruno Cur, Jocelyn Roy, and Horde followed Daniels underneath the checkered flag. Heat race wins went to Daniels and Hoard.

The 9th State Cannabis Renegade feature was a wild, crash-filled affair with the points leader Tylor Taylor surviving to add his fourth checkered flag of the season to his collection. Pole sitter Tyler Irwin held the point for the early laps. An incident between Shawn Duquette and Josh Terry, which also involved Travis Stokes and Tim Wilcox, brought out the caution on lap 10. After the restart, Tylor Taylor powered past Irwin and left the rest of the field in the dust to add to his impressive win total. Irwin held on for second. Nathaniel Guay, Brad Bushey, and Roland Guay closed out the top five. Nathaniel Guay and Tylor Terry won the heats.

The Crown Vics made their return to Airborne Park on Saturday, and the question was, could anyone compete with Eric Friend? Friend out of Middlebury, VT, entered the evening a perfect 3 for 3 on the season. Richie Turner led several laps early in the feature, but eventually Friend was able to impose his will and kept his unbeaten streak intact. Turner was second best by far. Norm Morrill, Scott Richner, and Jaycee Turner also enjoyed top-five finishes. Turner won the heat race.

Kenny Tourville fought off a late charging Jp Corrow to to grab a long-awaited win in the mini stock feature. Tourville didn't win in 2024 and was thrilled to be back in victory lane. Jamie Whitney Jr. set the early pace, but Tourville made a pass on the outside of turn three to move in front and stayed there the rest of the way. Corrow did his best to reel Tourville in but ran out of time. Corrow crossed the line second, Speedy Bresette third, Chad Provost fourth, and Ryan Senecal fifth. Heat winners were Tourville, Bresette, and Corrow.

Fans were treated to a stroll down memory lane as the MVVDMS competed in five divisions. Feature winners were Scot Straight in the Mystique Division, Mike Wheeler in the Antique Division, Jack Miller in the Modified Division, Frank Hoard Jr. in the Late Model Division, and Gary Reynolds in the Sportsman Division.

Sportsmen modified regular Michael Wright eliminated a huge lead by Richie Turner to claim the 50-lap enduro win. Turner opened what seemed to be an insurmountable advantage during the first half of the event, but Wright was able to chase him down. Turner held on to the runner-up spot. Cole Boutah, Jacob Fountain, and Trevor Jaques rounded out the top five.

Airborne Park Speedway will be in action on a special night this week for "Whacky Wednesday Night," featuring the always popular Kids Race Car rides. All regular weekly divisions will be on the docket. Pit gates open at 4 p.m., Grandstands open at 5 p.m., Racing begins at 7 p.m. Admissio is $15. Kids 12 & under are free, Pit admission is $30 for members and $40 for non-members.

• Après un début de saison au ralenti, Dame nature – le temps d'un week-end – nous a laissé profiter du soleil et de la chaleur. À ce que je sache, premier week-end où toutes les pistes ont pu tenir en parti leurs programmes. Ça fait du bien.

• Les frères Roy continuent de faire les manchettes sur la terre-battue. Le « vieux » Jeremy a remporté sa première victoire DIRTcar 358 au Airborne Park Speedway jeudi, tandis que Hollywood, le « jeune » Félix, c'est illustré en remporté l'épreuve de la série canadienne Big Block à l' Autodrome Drummond samedi soir.

• Donovan « Dono » Lussier, fort de sa victoire de lundi dernier (26 mai) à Devil's Bowl Speedway dans le cadre du spécial Memorial Day, il a visité le cercle des vainqueurs une deuxième fois, cette fois à la maison, en remportant à l'Autodrome Granby vendredi.

• Félicitations à Hugo Paquet, avec sa victoire, inscrit son nom sur la prestigieuse coupe Steve Lesage en classe Sportsman à l'@Autodrome Autodrome Chaudiere Vallée-Jonction. Un jeune qui semble avoir un avenir très prometteur.

• Que dire du duo Larue Motorsports du côté de White Mountain Motorsport Parks (WMMP), Raphael Lessard, a consolidé son avance au haut du classement en remportant l'épreuve… sa troisième sur le Tour, tandis que son jeune partenaire d'équipe William Larue a monté sur la 3e marche. La victoire de Raphaël une première par un Canadien/Québécois en sol américain dans la série depuis celle de Patrick Laperle, en septembre 2022, justement à WMMP.

• La victoire de Lessard m'a bien fait sourire… d'abord sur les réseaux sociaux, le pilote beauceron s'est vu critiqué pour la façon qu'il a pris la tête, avec 2 tours à faire. Les partisans du meneur à la relance, DJ Shaw, avec 4 tours à faire, accusent Lessard de l'avoir brassé et le reléguant au 8e rang… pourtant, la diffusion de l'épreuve ne m'a pas permis de tirer la même conclusion. Et vous comment voyez-vous le finish?

Un partisan assez intense près du système de captation de l'épreuve sur Racing America m'a fait sourire… Alors que la cérémonie d'après course se déroulait, on a pu entendre « Lessard cheater. Boooou. Cheater ». Est-ce que ce dernier en avait après « Raph » pour sa victoire? Comment il a pris la tête? Ou parce qu'il est Canadien et au sommet du classement? LOL

• Parlant de DJ Shaw, quelqu'un a vu ce qui a mené au contact entre lui et Gabe Brown dans le virage 1? La captation ne nous a pas permis de voir l'amorce de l'accrochage qui a mérité un brake-check en règle dans les puits. Seulement des flammèches dans le coin de l'écran. À Thunder Road le week-end dernier, ces deux-là, avaient croisé le fer en piste… ça dû donner à de belles discussions au tour de la machine à café le lundi chez Dale Shaw Race Cars où Brown est un employé. J'imagine aujourd'hui...

• Du côté de l'Ontario, Joshua Stade et Kyle Steckly ont signé les deux premières manches, respectivement Sunset Speedway et Flamboro Speedway-Authorized Page, de la APC United Racing Series.

• Côté car count, que se passe-t-il? 30 voitures LMS à WMMP, 20 en APC mais seulement 12 voitures Sportsman et 6 camions du côté de l'Autodrome Chaudière.

• Prix persévérance de la semaine… Au Clan Laperle… 3 crevaisons en chemin pour WMMP. Plusieurs auraient abandonné avant, il y a dû avoir quelques jurons de prononcés entre St-Denis et North Woodstock.

• Je dois avouer trouver cela intéressant de voir le changement de la garde, toutes catégories confondues, des nouveaux noms, des pilotes de moins de 30, voir 25 ans remporter des épreuves. Est-ce que cela pourrait être se que le sport a besoin pour amener un public plus jeune et aider à la survie de notre sport? Si la NASCAR a Cleetus McFarland et Youtube, nous, Canadiens, avons les Lussier, Roy, Steckly et Paquet pour assurer la survie.

• « S'tu juste moi » mais ça devient de plus en plus dur de suivre les courses Cup… avec les nouveaux contrats de diffusion, il faut être abonné à de plus en plus de services. D'ailleurs j'ai cette réflexion pour les autres séries aussi, que ce soit, en NASCAR Canada, en ACT, en APC, etc… le nombre d'abonnements nécessaire devient fou.

Peterborough Speedway Boosts 50 Lap Shootout Bone Stock Payday

The weekly Bone Stock division has been known as hometown racing's entry level class. Saturday, June 14th teams will receive their long overdue time in the spotlight as Peterborough Speedway hosts a 50-lap Bone Stock Shootout.

Central Ontario favourites will defend the local turf's bragging rights against a truckload of invaders in search of a $250 payday that starts with $100 to take the green flag. Pit gates open at 12:30, grandstands at 3:00 with racing at 5:00.

Full Throttle Speedway has taken the unique step of giving its Bone Stock teams the night off so they can participate in this special event. They've also put some incentive into the deal by offering a $500 bonus if one of their registered drivers can score the main event win. The bonus cash will be paid to the winner at the next scheduled date. A Peterborough Speedway runner will find some extra cash in their post race pay envelope. Clarke Motorsports Communications will provide an extra $25 to the hometown Bone Stock racer in the highest position at the end of the first 25 laps.

Fans are in store for an exciting night of Making Memories for Life. In addition to the 50 lap Bone Stock special event, Canada's Toughest 3rd Mile Oval will also host the 100 lap APC Late Model and 50 lap Dayco Super Stock headliners Saturday, June 14th.

It will be the 3rd stop for the Late Model Series in 2025. Josh Stade and Kyle Steckly won the opening rounds on this year's tour. Steckly won the 100 lapper at Peterborough in 2023. The Super Stocks will kick-off a run of 5 dates with this weekend's start. Carson Nagy has scored 3 wins in his last 4 starts at the Central Ontario venue, with Jason Parker taking the checkered flag in 2022.

APC Late Model/Dayco Super Stock Double Dip is Next at Peterborough Speedway

Special guests are the perfect complement to any track's weekly racing divisions. Saturday, June 14th Peterborough Speedway will welcome one of the year's marquee events to the venue known for Making Memories for Life as the APC Late Model and Dayco Super Stock fields return to Central Ontario.

The double-dip headliners are a showcase event at the track and in 2024, local standout and multi-time track champion Dan McHattie dominated the APC Late Model 100 lapper, while Carson Nagy scored his 3rd checkered flag in 4 years during the 50 lap Super Stock main event. Recent Late Model winners have included JR Fitzpatrick and Kyle Steckly, while Jason Parker picked-up the Super Stock victory in 2022. Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says the show has become fan favourite on the annual schedule.

"The Late Models have 9 events on this year's schedule and the June 14th show here is the first of a handful of dates on the Super Stock's 2025 line-up," said Josiasse. "3 of our locals qualified for the Late Model show, with 4 home trackers taking the Super Stock green flag last year. That's a strong showing for our weekly runners."

In addition to the APC Late Model and Dayco Super Stock events, the Saturday June 14th will also feature a 50 lap Bone Stock Shootout at Peterborough Speedway. With a winner's payday of $250, the show will also see every starter taking home $100 for making the starting line-up.

The starting field will be bolstered by racers from Full Throttle Speedway who have been given the night off at their home track with the extra incentive of a $500 bonus from their home track promotional team if one of their drivers wins the race. If applicable, the bonus would be paid to the driver at their next event at Full Throttle Speedway.

A lucky Peterborough Speedway Bone Stock driver will find an extra $25 in their pay envelope. Clarke Motorsports Communications will award that amount to the highest running home track racer at the end of the first 25 laps.

Jeremy Roy Collects First 358 Win at Airborne Park

(Plattsburgh, NY) Jeremy Roy has spent the last several years watching his younger brother Felix rise to star status on the northeast modified circuit. Thursday night at the Airborne Park Speedway, it was the oldest of the Napierville, Quebec siblings' time to shine. It was Hometown Heroes First Responder night at "The Big A" and the sizable crowd on hand was treated to an entertaining evening of racing, as Roy charged from his sixth starting spot to claim his first DirtCar 358 modified victory.

 Jordan Fornwalt and George Foley brought the field to the green flag. Fornwalt quickly went to the point and paved the way in the early laps, but it was plain to see that Roy and defending track champion Mike Mahaney, who started eighth, had the fastest cars. Roy slipped underneath Fornwalt on a lap 16 restart and held off Mahaney to cross the line first. The rapidly closing Mahaney had to settle for second with Felix Roy, Chris Raabe, and Tim Fuller rounding out the top five. Foley and Greg Atkins collected heat race wins.

   Points leader Tylor Terry continued his dominance in the 9th State Cannabis Renegade division, parking his ride in victory lane for the third time in six starts this season.  Tim Wilcox and Tyler Irwin led the field to the green flag, with Irwin leading the first several laps, but Terry was on the move, advancing from eighth to second by lap four. Irwin slipped high out of turn two on lap six, and Terry took advantage. Caution flew on lap 17 to tighten up the field, but no one had anything for Terry. Shawn Duquette, Nathaniel Guay, Irwin, and Brad Bushey completed the top 5. Heat race wins went to TylorTerry and Irwin.

    In the J&S Steel Sportsman Modified feature, Nick Heywood hustled the high line to navigate his way from the 14th position on the grid to victory lane, outdueling Jamy Begor for his second win of the year. Begor started on the pole and seemed to have everything under control, but what he didn't know was that Heywood was slicing through the field like a hot knife through butter.  Even after being overtaken by Heywood, Begor changed his racing line and continued to pressure the leader. Heywood was finally able to put some distance between himself and his closest challenger in the closing laps. Donovan Lussier rallied from a trip to the garage area and a restart at the back of the pack to finish third, followed by Fire Swamp and Vince Quenneville Jr. Caleb Durgan, Begor, and Heywood were heat race winners.

     As is typically the case, the mini stock division put on an action-packed show in their 15-lap main event. Glenn Engstrom appeared to have the car to beat early on as he led the first half of the race. While Engstrom was cruising out front, defending track champion Ryan Senecal was meticulously weaving his way toward the front. After the midway point, a five-car battle including Engstrom, Senecal, Josh Laporte, Stephen Bressett, and Josh Fountain began to unfold. Senecal survived the fray and pulled away late for his second win of the season. Bresette finished second after starting 27th, Engstrom was third, Fountain fourth, and  Laporte fifth. Jp Corrow, Engstrom, and Bresette won their respective heat races.

     Gary English has been dominant in the Hoosier Tire Limited Sportsmen Division so far in 2025, but with him not in attendance, other drivers had the opportunity to collect a feature win. Kobe Hernandez recovered from an early race slip-up to come from behind for his second win of the season. Up-and-coming Lea-Jeanne Lauziere jumped out to the lead from her position on the pole and appeared poised to grab her first career win. With the Lauziere machine seemingly losing the handle, Hernandez took command on lap 12 and wasn't challenged the rest of the way. Chasing Hernandez across the finish line were Parker Dermondy, Raelin Dunham,  Garin Thompson, and Lauziere, who recovered from a late race spin for a top-five outing. Lauziere and Dunham won heat races.

     Racing returns to Airborne Park on Thursday, June 12, with a makeup night of racing featuring the 358 Super DirtCar Series and DirtCar Sportsman Series in the "Battle of Plattsburgh." The 358 modifieds will compete for 75 Laps and $5,000 to win. The sportsman drivers will tangle for 30 Laps and $1500 to win. Renegades, Mini Stocks, and Limited Sportsman will also be on the card. Race time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Grandstand gates open at 5:30 p.m. Grandstand admission is $25. Kids 12 and under are free.

       The action continues on Saturday, June 14th, with racing billed as "Topless for Dad Night," to celebrate Father's Day weekend, sponsored by Hebert's Lawn Care. With no 358s in action, the Sportsman Modifieds will assume center stage as the night's headline division. Renegades, Mini Stocks, the Mohawk Valley Vintage Dirt Modifieds, and pro stocks will also be on hand. The green flag waves at 6:00 p.m. Grandstand gates open at 4:30 pm Admission is $15.
