STECKLY KEEPS STRING OF TOP FIVE FINISHES GOING AT MOSPORT

For Immediate Release

BOWMANVILLE, ON, Monday June 27, 2011: Scott Steckly driver of the 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge started the weekend with the fastest time in practice and finished off the two day event with a fifth place finish, making his four starts in 2011 all top fives.

On Saturday afternoon few cars took to the track in the first practice as there was a persistent rain over Mosport International Raceway.  In practice number two, Steckly consistently ran laps that kept him within the top five fastest cars. With his last lap, Steckly posted the quickest time of the day maneuvering the 12 turn 2.459 mile road course in a time of 1:24.324.

The qualifying session was washed out due to rain and as a result the drivers would take to the starting grid for Sunday’s Vortex Brake Pads 200 according to owner points. Steckly and the 22 Racing/Canadian Tire Dodge, as the points leader would line up on the inside of row one, taking the pole position.

Steckly lead the first six laps of the Vortex Brake Pads 200, then ran in second until the first caution came out on lap 12.  Steckly came down pit road and topped up on fuel, but came back to pit road the next lap and changed left side tires. Steckly restated in sixteenth place out of a twenty-six car field.

The yellow flag was out again on lap 18 and Steckly came back to pit road and the team changed right side tires and would restart the race on lap 23 in 15th place.  With three more cautions periods over the remaining 33 laps, it was difficult for the No. 22 team to make up any track position, but Steckly was running lap times consistent with the leaders, he just didn’t have enough green flag laps to catch them.  With the last restart on lap 46, Steckly was on the inside, made a pass for fourth and was looking to make the pass for third but couldn’t make it stick and was shuffled back to fifth place.  When the checkered flag waived Steckly would cross the finish line in fifth.

“All in all we had a good weekend, the car was fast right out of the trailer, but track position was huge today and there were a lot of cars that didn’t take tires when we did so we had a lot of traffic to fight through.  We kept picking off cars lap by lap and managed to get into the top five and we’re happy to leave Mosport with an increase in our points lead.”

This weekend’s event at Mosport International Raceway will air on TSN on Saturday July 2nd at 1:30 EST.

The next stop for Steckly and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will be in two weeks’ time when the drivers will navigate the streets of Toronto at Exhibition Place for the Toronto Honda Indy.

Steckly has maintained the first place position in the NASCAR point’s standings and is looking to take a further lead over the rest of the field upon completion of the Honda Indy Toronto.

Scott Steckly would also like to thank his sponsors: Canadian Tire, MotoMaster, Exide, Erb, Castrol and AW Millwrights.

Johnny Clark rolls on, claims third PASS North win of 2011 at L'Autodrome Chaudiere

For Immediate Release: Media, contact Norm Desjardins

Mother Nature loses one to the racers in the PASS North Habitations Dany Lagace 150

Naples ME (6/27) Defending Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Champion Johnny Clark earned his third super late model win of the young PASS North season Sunday in the PASS Habitations Dany Lagace 150 at L'Autodrome Chaudiere . Ben Rowe and Patrick Laperle chased Clark to the stripe.

PASS North's first trip to Quebec since 2004 was marred by rain. A bleak forecast delayed the event until Sunday, then it was a battle between mother nature, the tenacious Chaudiere track crew and PASS officials to get and keep a raceable track surface. In the end their efforts paid off and the hardy Quebec fans were treated to the kind of racing only super late models can provide.

Travis Benjamin led early on from the front row, eventually surrendering the lead to Ben Rowe.. Benjamin lost a tire and suffered a bone jarring crash that led to a red flag at lap sixty. The wreck ended a promising evening for the Morrill Maine racer.

When the field took flag man Mike Mayberry's green Clark was next to Ben Rowe up front, moving up from eleventh on the grid. Laperle lookedvlike Clark's serious challenger, taking over the second spot and trying to use the bottom to get by the leader. Laperle could get to Clark's numbers but couldn't take away the lead. Those challenges took their toll on the Quebec star's equipment and Clark was able to build a formidable lead. Ben Rowe took the second spot from Laperle at lap 125 and that's the way they raced to the finish.

Scott Chubbuck had an up and down day, surviving contact to race back fourth. Alex Gingras had yet another sold run in fifth despite mechanical issues and a spin.Points contender Lonnie Sommerville lost some ground, falling out on lap 58 with mechanical problems.

Clark and Ben Rowe each earned a heat race win. Eight of the twnety starters completed all 150 green flag laps.

The PASS North super late model trail moves to New Hampshire's Canaan Fair Speedway on Saturday July 2 for the Firecracker 150. They'll be joined by the PASS Mods for a spectacular night of racing that includes monster trucks and firworks. All the details can be found at www.proallstarsseries.com and www.canaanspeedways.com .

Donahue Steals CARQUEST VT Governor's Cup Win

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                   TR-062611

Barre, VT – Graniteville’s John Donahue stole the CARQUEST Vermont Governor’s Cup 100 win with a heads-up move at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT on Sunday, June 26. Donahue was running second to defending “King of the Road” and VT Governor’s Cup Champion Nick Sweet when three cars spun in turn four near the back of the pack spun on the 84th circuit.

By the time Sweet and Donahue reached turn three, all three cars were making their way back onto the track. Sweet lifted expecting a caution, but Donahue never lifted and took the lead when no caution was thrown. Donahue took the lead and never looked back, while Sweet had to settle for second.

“I saw the green light in turn four, so I never lifted,” said Donahue in victory lane. It was Donahue’s second win of the 2011 Thunder Road Late Model season, the other coming in the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic in May. Donahue currently sits atop the 2011 championship point standings.

Sweet was followed to the line by current Rookie of the Year leader Jimmy Hebert, who scored his career best Late Model finish in third. Scott Payea and Brent Dragon completed the top five. Brian Hoar claimed a sixth place finish, while filling in for Cris Michaud in the #6VT. Lt. Governor Phil Scott, Jamie Fisher, Matt White and Dave Whitcomb rounded out the top ten.

The rain showers came in following the Late Model feature and washed out the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen 35 lap feature. That event will be made up this Thursday, June 30 during Fairpoint Communications night.

The apparent Allen Lumber Street Stock feature winner Marvin Johnson was found illegal in post race tech. His disqualification handed the win over to Williamstown’s Tommy Smith. It was Smith’s 21st career Street Stock Feature win.

Jason Woodard of Waterbury earned his first career Junkyard Warrior feature win. He was followed to the line by point leader Kevin Wheatley and Brock Parrott completing the podium.

Thunder Road International Speedbowl will be back in action this Thursday, June 30 for Fairpoint Communications night. It will feature all four divisions including double features for the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen.

MICKS RACES TO 13TH PLACE FINISH AT MOSPORT

For Immediate Release

BOWMANVILLE, ON, Sunday June 26, 2011: Kerry Micks driver of the No. 02 Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion was fourth quickest in practice and had some mechanical problems, but managed to take home a 13th place finish.

On Saturday afternoon Micks was one of the few cars that took to the track in the first practice where there was a constant drizzle over Mosport International Raceway. “We just wanted to put in some laps under the slick conditions, in case we see some rain for the main event on Sunday,” commented Micks.  In practise number two, Micks ran consistent times and when all was said and done, posted the fourth quickest time.

Qualifying was rained out on Saturday afternoon and as a result the drivers took to the starting grid according to owner points, meaning Micks and the Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion team would have to line up on the inside of row six in eleventh place.  “We are disappointed we didn’t get to qualify the car this weekend, we definitely could have pulled off a top five starting position,” said the #02 driver.

Micks started the Vortex Brake Pads 200 in 11th place and after one lap he had already moved into the eighth position and Micks was running in sixth by the time first caution came out on lap 12.

Micks brought his #02 Ford Fusion to pit road for fuel, but the team also had to take a look under the hood.  Micks made it back onto the track without losing a lap, but when the second caution came out on lap 18, Micks came back to pit road to change all four tires and again the No. 02 team were working under the hood of the Dickies/Beyond Digital Imaging Ford Fusion.

Micks was having a vibration and the team were working under the hood to change parts on the carburetor.   It took two caution sessions to make sure they solved the problem and with the issue resolved, Micks headed back out on the track two laps down.

Back on the track Micks’ next goal was to make sure that he was in a position to get the lucky dog should there be another caution and it just so happened that Mick was in exactly the right position when cautions five and six came out.  Micks was able to get both his laps back and with six laps to go he was on the lead lap.

The No. 02 however was considerably behind the main pack of car, and while he was running lap times as fast as the leader, he just didn’t have enough laps left to make his way to the front.  When the checkered flag flew, Micks would end up finishing 13th on the lead lap out of a 26 car field.

After the race Micks said “It’s too bad, the car is so fast and the team is working so hard on it, we just need some luck and are hoping it will happen for us in Toronto, we won it in 2005 and are hoping to get back to victory lane when we get there in two weeks.”

This weekend’s events at Mosport International Raceway will air on TSN on Saturday July 2nd at 1:30 EST.

Kerry Micks is ninth in the NASCAR point’s standings and his next stop with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will be in two weeks’ time were he will navigate streets of Toronto at the Exhibition Place for the Toronto Honda Indy.  Don’t forget to go to Dickies.ca before the race and pick the winners in the Dickies Race to Win Challenge for a chance to win some great prizes.

DILLEY DISAPPOINTING 20TH AT MOSPORT ROAD COURSE

For Immediate Release

BOWMANVILLE, ON, Sunday June 26, 2011: Mark Dilley driver of the No. 9 Part Source/Rheem Farwell Racing Dodge was sixth quickest in practice, but had some on track problems and settled for a 20th place finish.

On Saturday afternoon only a few cars took to the track in the first practice as there was a misty rain over the track.  In practice number two, Dilley manoeuvred the 12 turn 2.459 mile road course in a time of 1:26.689 which was the sixth quickest time.  “I left a little out there,” said Dilley after practice.  “I was in the grass and dirt in one of the turns so I know it has a little more in it.”

Qualifying later on Saturday afternoon was called due to rain.  As a result NASCAR would line up the drivers based on owner’s points, meaning Dilley would start the Vortex Brake Pads 200 in ninth position.

The green flag dropped at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday and before the cars could complete a full lap Dilley had moved into seventh place.  The #9 driver had dropped back to tenth when the first caution came out on lap 12 and he came to pit road for fuel.  Dilley and the Part Source/Rheem team had a smooth stop and gained three positions to restart in seventh place.

Caution number two came out shortly after and Dilley felt something restricting his steering and limiting his braking ability and came to pit road.  The team found debris lodged between the brake caliper and the frame which they quickly removed.  They then made a four tire change.   NASCAR deemed that Dilley entered pit road on the caution before the green Open sign was displayed and he was assessed a pass through penalty for pitting while pit road was closed.

Dilley was now at the back of the pack and was trying to real in the field.  He had made his way up to 17th when three cars in front of him got together.  Dilley thought was in the clear, but at the last second one of the involved cars slid up the track and forced Dilley into the tire wall.

He #9 PartSource/Rheem driver had some damage to his car and the team quickly went to work on trying to repair the body damage, but there was also a hole in the radiator and it forced Dilley to park the car for the duration of the race.  The #9 Farwell Racing Team would leave Mosport International Raceway with a disappointing 20th place finish.

“We had a great car and were running well, but a piece of fibreglass was jammed behind the left front tire which caused us steering and brake problems.  After fixing it we thought we were going to be okay, but we got caught up in someone else’s mess and it ended our day early.  It’s too bad these guys work so hard on the car and I wish we could have a better finish for them and our sponsors, but hopefully we’ll get the monkey off our back in Toronto.”

This weekend’s events at Mosport International Raceway will air on TSN on Saturday July 2nd at 1:30 EST.

The next stop for Dilley and the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series will be in two weeks’ time were the drivers will navigate streets of Toronto at the Exhibition Place for the Toronto Honda Indy.

Dilley has dropped one position and is tenth in the NASCAR points standings.

Airborne Speedway prepares for huge fireworks crowd

AS-062611-1

For immediate release

South Plattsburgh – Airborne Speedway is making plans to accommodate the largest crowd of the year Saturday, July 2 when Pepsi, High Peaks Dental and Trim’s Mobile Home Repair present a full race card and the largest fireworks display in track history.

Pyrotechnic experts Dr. Joe Clauss and Sons have vowed to “fire the most gunpowder over

the skies of Plattsburgh since we defeated the British ships during the War of 1812.”

“Last year’s show was the best at Airborne in 58 years,” promoter Mike Perrotte said. “Saturday we’ll have of the largest displays anywhere in New York. We have hired extra personnel to handle increased traffic, parking and concessions.”

“Mike has done some extra bulldozing to prepare the launch sites as an added safety precaution because this deal will be much bigger and longer than the last one, which was very well-received,” Dr. Clauss said. “I lost my Dad over the winter and I have never done a show without him. This year’s display will be in hopes of having him looking down on Airborne and saying – nice job!”

Airborne was rained out for the third time this season Saturday, June 25. “The weather’s been hard on everybody,” Perrotte said. “We’ve arranged Sunday, July 3 as a rain date for this event because we’re determined to get it in.”

Admission is $15/adults – kids 12 and under admitted free. Racing begins at 6 p.m. Spectators arriving after 8:30 p.m. will be admitted onto the grounds for $7 per carload.

All five weekly divisions will be in action. More than 110 race cars are expected. Defending Ernie’s Discount Tools Modified champion Patrick Dupree of Saranac Lake will be out for his second straight win against 30-plus DIRTcar Modifieds. Airborne’s new Go-Kart track will be open.

Airborne Speedway is located on Broderick Road in South Plattsburgh, just off Rte 22, one mile south of I-87 exit 36. For more info, visit airborneparkspeedway.com.
