Tremont Goes Topless for Devil’s Bowl Speedway Win

Tremont Goes Topless for Devil's Bowl Speedway Win

First-time winners in three of five features

For Immediate Release                                                                                                                                                                                  DBS-062419-1

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – The annual "topless" racing event at Devil's Bowl Speedway usually throws drivers for a bit of a loop as the roofs come off the racecars, but Kenny Tremont Jr. seems to have it figured out.  The West Sand Lake, N.Y., driver copped his third topless win in four years on Sunday, June 23, highlighting an exciting Heritage Family Credit Union "Member Night" event that also included three first-time winners in support division action.

Hundreds of fans in the large crowd enjoyed free admission as a benefit of their Heritage Family Credit Union membership, and they thrilled to the sight of Tremont's drive through traffic in the 30-lap Pepsi Sportsman Modified feature.  Known primarily as an inside-lane specialist, Tremont used the bottom, middle, and top grooves to slice through the field from his 16th starting position on the 29-car field.

Mike Palmer paced the field from the pole position as part of a trio of impressive underdogs with sophomore drivers Jeff Washburn and Bruce Loomis in tow.  Tremont made his move on the outside of Palmer to take command at lap 14 and never looked back.  Meanwhile, Adam Pierson came from 19th starting position and Hector Stratton drove from 11th to get past Palmer late in the race.  A caution period with four laps to go bunched the field together, but Tremont never faced a serious challenge and drove off for the win.

Pierson finished second ahead of Stratton and Palmer, while Justin Comes had an incredible drive from 28th to finish fifth.  Washburn capped his great night in sixth place, with Vince Quenneville a season-best seventh.  Billy Lussier took his third top-10 finish in as many races in eighth place.  Recent high school graduate Tanner Siemons finished ninth for his first top-10 of the year, and Jimmy Ryan came from 26th to finish 10th.

Seventeen-year-old David Boisclair copped his first-ever Devil's Bowl win in the 20-lap topless feature for the O'Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman division.  The Watervliet, N.Y., racer had been one of the fastest drivers in the first two races of the season but was bitten by bad luck both times, and he very nearly had it happen again in the midst of a torrid battle for the lead with Anthony Warren; after trading the lead several times per lap for several circuits, Warren's left-front tire hopped over Boisclair's right-rear and Warren catapulted of the track.

Boisclair was able to come away unscathed and snatched his first win at the Vermont track.  Adam Piper overcame some early-season gremlins for a strong runner-up finish.  Matt Bilodeau came from 12th at the start to finish third, followed by James Hanson and Marty Hutchins.  The top 10 was completed in order by Jesse Durkee, Mike Parodi, Mike Ryan, Anthony Ryan, and Dave Snow.

Scott FitzGerald was just as much lucky as he was good in the 20-lap Super Stock feature.  The West Rutland, Vt., veteran was involved in a multi-car crash early the race but rebounded to run strong in second place.  When leader Chris Murray blew a clutch with six laps remaining and was forced to retire from the race, though, FitzGerald inherited the lead and drove away for his first win of the year.

Kevin Elliott and Andrew FitzGerald – the winner's son – both recovered from the same crash to officially take second and third place finishes, respectively.  Rookie Cam Gadue scored his best finish in fourth.  Garrett Given was officially scored in fifth place; Given was the second car across the finish line but was penalized three positions for failing to comply with an official directive during a restart earlier in the race.

Middlebury, Vt.'s Jake Barrows was a happy first-time winner in the Mini Stock division.  The third-year racer took the point from Mike Preston three laps into the 20-lap race and left everyone behind with a convincing run.  Shawn Moquin finished second ahead of Craig Kirby.  Connor Bryan was a fist-pumping fourth in his first race ever, and rookie T.J. Knight scored his best finish in fifth.

Thirteen-year-old rookie Evan Roberts was a first-time winner in the Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprint division.  The fourth-generation racer from Fletcher, Vt., ran a smooth line in a rough-and-tumble "wingless" race and was able to get away from a full-contact body slam at lap 10 to keep control of his car.

A 15-minute time limit was enforced due to excessive crashes and caution periods, and the race was cut short from 15 laps to 10; Roberts was in the lead at the time and is credited with the victory.  Another youngster, 12-year-old Joel Belanger continued his strong start to the season with a career-best runner-up finish.  Samantha Mulready was equally fast and finished third ahead of Kevin Smith and Dakota Green.

Devil's Bowl Speedway is back in action on Sunday, June 30, at 7:00 p.m., as Durkee Insurance Agency and FairHavenMotors.com present the "Vintage Racing Celebration" event featuring the 54-lap Charlie LaDuc Memorial Sportsman Modified race and the Champlain Valley Vintage Dirt Modified Series.  All five weekly divisions will be in action at the event.  General admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors (62+), and free for kids 12 and under.

The speedway is also gearing up for the biggest and loudest Independence Day celebration in southern Vermont on Wednesday, July 3 at 6:00 p.m.  A massive fireworks show will highlight the event, which includes a 100-lap Sportsman Modifieds race, the Sprint Cars of New England tour, the Enduro Series, and weekly divisions.

Devil's Bowl Speedway is located on Route 22A in West Haven, Vt., four miles north of U.S. Route 4, Exit 2, and just 20 minutes from Rutland, Vt.  For more information, visitwww.DevilsBowlSpeedwayVT.com or call (802) 265-3112. Cornwall Celebrates Canada Day, Plattsburgh Set to Host $10,000-to-win NAPA Super DIRT Week Qualifier

Cornwall, ONT – June 21, 2019 – The Super DIRTcar Series gears up for an international doubleheader. First, the Big Block Modifieds head north to Cornwall Motor Speedway for the $7,500-to-win O'Canada 100. Then after celebrating Canada Day with our neighbors to the North, the stars and cars of the Super DIRTcar Series take off for Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway the $10,000-to-win NAPA Super DIRT Week Qualifier Border Battle 100.

Cornwall Motor Speedway is a wicked fast, high-banked, quarter-mile track located in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada just across the St. Lawrence River. Last year, Super Matt Sheppard took the checkered flag on the way to his eighth Series Championship. This year the competition is as high as it's ever been with full-time entries like Mat Williamson in the Buzzchew Racing machine, Mike Mahaney behind the wheel of the No. 35 Huttig car, and rookies Jack Lehner and Demetrios Drellos.

Matt Sheppard and Billy Decker enter the O'Canada 100 with three wins each at Cornwall. The all-time win leader is Brett Hearn with five. Race fans are eager to see what star of the Super DIRTcar Series will add to their tally or even make their mark with a first-time win.

So far only one driver has been locked into the Billy Whittaker Cars 200 on October 13 at Oswego Speedway; Matt Sheppard, who took the win at the inaugural Thunder in the Thousand Islands 100. Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway will award the third of these guaranteed starts as The Big Show 11 the week before is also a NAPA Super DIRT Week XLVIII Qualifier.

The excitement at the Qualifiers is palpable as fans can get a slice of the classic Super DIRT Week atmosphere of drama and high stakes. Drivers are amped to pick up that $10,000 payday plus they know that come October, they will automatically start the Billy Whittaker Cars 200. For the first time, under the tutelage of newcomer Robby Knowles, the Super DIRTcar Series returns for a $10,000 grand prize. Drivers and fans from Ontario and the US are expected to flock to the great Plattsburgh, NY track in great numbers.

Billy Decker, Larry Wight, Jimmy Phelps, and Danny Johnson will be gunning to sweep the doubleheader for a $17,000 Sunday-Monday. The Doctor is looking to sweeten things up as he will be back with the Sweeteners Plus race team in the familiar red and yellow paint scheme.

Both tracks showcase 358 Modifieds weekly with a slew of their regulars ready to tackle the DIRTcar Series faithful. Names like Carey Terrance, Chris Raabe, Brian McDonald, Jessey Mueller, Kyle Dingwall, Steve Bernier and others will be out to defend the home turf.

If you can't make it to the track, be sure to tune into both races live and in HD with our partners at FloRacing. FloRacing is an industry leader in live streaming sports.

Dwight Brown Returns to OMRS Victory Lane at Peterborough Speedway

Dwight Brown Returns to OMRS Victory Lane at Peterborough Speedway

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

For the second time in 3 weeks – Saturday, June 22nd – the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. and Gen-3 Electrical – brought its special brand of open-wheeled excitement to Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval.

With 25 laps to settle the score, Craig Scott and Randy Hollingsworth brought the field of an even dozen to green flag. Hollingsworth drifted high in the first corner as the pack set-off to put the first lap in the record books. That allowed Scott to break away with the lead, as Bob Franks followed close behind. The local racing veteran had been doing some homework during the track's Thursday night practice session and it paid-off as his #72 ride took the lead with 5 laps on the scoreboard.

With Franks in control, Dwight Brown was using the outside line of the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road and looking for a shot at stealing away the lead when the yellow flag flew on lap 12, for incident in the 2nd turn. Brown resumed his pursuit of the leader on the restart and the tightened field brought Chad Strawn into the fight as well. Another caution came out on lap 20 – this time for an issue in the 3rd turn – creating a 5 lap trophy dash for the win.

Dwight Brown's tenacious effort came to fruition as he got the lead on the restart but instead of wondering if he could pass Franks, he was now wondering if a hard-charging Chad Strawn would pass him. He'd manage to hold-off Strawn for the win, with John Baker Jr., Franks and Alex Lees completing the top 5. Brad Stevenson, Rick Warnes, Rob Warnes, Scott, Willow Barberstock, Hollingsworth and Alex Cuzzilla rounded-out the finishing order.

Ontario Modifieds Racing Series notebook: After finishing 2nd in the night's 4th heat race, it looked like youngster Alex Cuzzilla could be on the way to his best career OMRS finish. The driver of the #50 machine wound-up parked on the infield pit lane, 5 laps down to the race winner…The tour is back in action Saturday, June 29th with the first of this year's 2 stops at Flamboro Speedway.

Peterborough Speedway’s Action Heats Up The First Weekend of Summer

Peterborough Speedway's Action Heats Up The First Weekend of Summer

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

After being interrupted by Mother Nature a week earlier, fans and officials at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval celebrated the arrival of a new season – Saturday, June 22nd – with a hot night of action at Peterborough Speedway.

Things got rolling with the holdover Jiffy Lube Mini Stock feature from Saturday, June 1st that saw Jassen Whyte and Kent Missons on the front row. Whyte took the lead early, with James Townsend looking for the spot. The former track champion claimed the lead following a lap 4 caution flag, with Missons grabbing the runner-up spot at the halfway mark and Nolan Gould taking 3rd a couple of laps later, as the pack caught the tail-end of the field. The race's final yellow – on lap 13 – brought everyone back together, but Townsend wouldn't be denied the win. Neil Hannah, Jeremy Kelly, Ember Junkin and Kevin Strutt rounded-out the top 5.

First up for the regular night's features was a 25 lap headline dance for the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series, with Craig Scott and Randy Hollingsworth on the front row. Scott jumped out to an early lead, with Bob Franks on his back bumper. The driver of the #72 machine took over the top spot, with a handful of laps on the board. Dwight Brown was looking to the outside line for a way around Franks, when the yellow waved for a 2nd turn issue with a dozen laps down. Brown was still trying to wrestle the lead away from Franks on the restart, when Chad Strawn introduced his dog to the fight. Another caution – this time in turn 3 – created a 5 lap trophy dash, with Brown finally taking the lead. The former series champion held-off Strawn for the victory, with John Baker Jr., Franks and Alex Lees next across the stripe.

The Can Am TQ Midget Series was on hand for its only appearance of the 2019 season and ran a pair of 25 lap feature events. In the opening round, Ryan Fraser took the win over Dominique Smith, Steven Murdock, Darren Dryden and Brandon Zavarella. Series point leader and reigning tour champion Dryden claimed the second round, with Fraser, Brandon Hauck, Smith and Murdock completing the top 5. Full series information can be found at www.canammidgets.com.

One of the biggest stories of Peterborough Speedway's 2019 season has been the resurgence of the Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck division. Hard work during the off-season has seen the numbers almost double since last year and according to track officials, there are still more trucks to come. Jeff Dolley and Bill O'Hara brought the field from the staging area for a 20 lap main event. An early-race yellow flag re-racked the pack, with Stacy Switzer taking the lead on the restart. The Bancroft, Ontario racer watched from the sidelines in 2018 after the birth of her daughter, but returned to the winner's circle over Bill O'Hara, Brad Lavalle, Alex McGibbon and Terri-Anne Whittern.

Steve Powell and Jack Morgan brought the Late Model teams to the Great Canadian RV green flag for 25 laps of action. Morgan – who has been turning heads in his very brief career – took an early lead, but Dan McHattie was coming-on fast and claimed the spot with just a handful of laps on the scoreboard. After a yellow flag for a 3rd turn issue, McHattie built a commanding lead and was logging some strong laps. Amanda Balson grabbed the runner-up spot but couldn't catch the dominant #71 car. Brandon Feeney, Kyle Batty and Mark Gordon completed the top 5.

Action wrapped-up with the return of the Mini Stocks, as Melissa Bullen and Kent Missons brought the pack from the staging area. A multi-car wreck coming off the 4th turn brought out the red flag and eliminated several cars from the show. Luckily, there were no serious injuries. Neil Hannah took the lead on the restart, with Jeremy Kelly looking to take away the spot. Try as he might, this wouldn't be the night for Kelly's first win in the new division. Kevin Strutt, James Townsend and Victor Vowles followed the lead duo across the line.

Brad Lavalle and Stacy Switzer split the Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck heats. Jack Morgan – with the first checkered flag of his career – Steve Powell, Amanda Balson and Mark Gordon each took a Late Model qualifying round, with Nolan Gould, Jeremy Kelly, Tiffany Vanderbelt, Neil Hannah, James Townsend and Kevin Strutt shared the Jiffy Lube Mini Stock preliminaries. John Baker Jr. had a pair of OMRS heat wins, with the others going to Brad Stevenson and Alex Lees.

All finishing positions are unofficial and subject to scoring review and post-race safety and technical inspection.

Bullring bullet points: Steve Brash of Sutton West, Ontario went home with the Millbrook Lions Club 50/50 payoff of $527.50…Former Kawartha Speedway Mini Stock track champion Chance Isherwood made his first start of the year in his #35 machine…After experiencing rear-end issues during the rain-delayed feature, Nolan Gould's #28 ride was sidelined. Luckily, he was able to borrow a car from Ryan Oosterholt and with the help of some racer's tape took the renumbered ride to a heat race win…Andrew Quibell made his 2019 debut in the Renegade Truck field.

Action at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval continues Saturday, June 29th with the Lucas Oil Products Summer Kick-Off, with the home track Battlefield Equipment Bone Stock, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Super Stock and Late Model divisions; plus a National Qualifier for the Trailers Plus Ontario Legends. Pit gates open at 2:30, with spectator grandstands unlocked at 5:00 and racing at 6:00.

Head to www.peterboroughspeedway.com for round-the-clock news and information or see the track's Facebook and Twitter social media profiles. Look for Peterborough Speedway wherever you pick-up your smartphone apps and keep the track in the palm of your hand all season.
