Barre, VT—Two-time defending Thunder Road "King of the Road" Derrick O'Donnell began his quest for a threepeat in dominating fashion with a win in the Mekkelsen Memorial Day Classic 100 on Sunday, May 24.

 

N. Haverhill, NH's O'Donnell quickly got to the front from his third starting position, moving around polesitter Nick Sweet on the outside to take the lead on lap eight. The 2013 Memorial Day Classic winner drew out to a big lead, but run into two-by-two lapped traffic at the halfway point of the caution-free race, allowing Milton, VT's Scott Dragon to catch him.

 

Dragon managed to nose in front of O'Donnell for two circuits just past the halfway point. However, O'Donnell pulled back away once the two got clear of traffic and took his second Memorial Day Classic win.

 

"We were saving for most of the race," O'Donnell said. "We got a huge lead, and then we got caught up in that lapped traffic that was racing side by side forever, and it just destroyed our lead. It was around the same time that my car started fading a little bit. I had my hands full, that's for sure."

 

Dragon settled for second, with Sweet a distant third. Merchants Bank 150 winner Brad Babb was fourth and John Donahue completed the top-5. Shawn Fleury, Brooks Clark, Dave Pembroke, Kyle Pembroke, and Trampas Demers were sixth through 10th.

 

Berwick, ME's Joey Doiron made history by becoming the first ever Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model winner at Thunder Road in their 150-lap event. Doiron started on the pole before surrendering the lead to Turner, ME's Glen Luce on lap 10. He retook the lead on the race's third and final restart for Mike Rowe's spin on lap 42, only to see Dover, NH's Wayne Helliwell power around his outside three laps later.

 

Helliwell darted out to a big lead, but Doiron began reeling him in after the halfway point and reassumed the lead on lap 93. A surprising Jeremy Davis slid through to second and followed Doiron like a shadow for the final 50 laps, but Doiron held on for his fifth career PASS North victory.

 

Davis finished second, with defending PASS North Champion D.J. Shaw in third. Former American –Canadian Tour (ACT) Rookie of the Year Bobby Therrien was fourth, followed by multi-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar. Mike Rowe, Travis Benjamin, Dave Pembroke, Helliwell, and Ben Rowe completed the top-10.

 

Joe Steffen was the last man standing in a wild Bond Auto Tiger Sportsman 35-lap feature. The stage was set on lap 26 when Christopher Pelkey dove three-wide inside a battle for the lead between Brendan Moodie and Jason Woodard on the backstretch. With none of the drivers willing to lift, the trio came together on the frontstretch, sending all three hard into the wall entering turn one.

 

Eric Johnson and Caleb Nelson inherited the front row on the restart, but the two came together coming to the green flag, sending both into the wall and flipping Johnson's machine on its roof. Doug Crownshield assumed the point and seemed on his way to his first Tiger win when the yellow flag flew for Mike Martin's spin as the field entered turn one on the final lap. 

 

Thinking the race to be over, Crowningshield slowed entering turn 3, and Steffen alertly darted through for the win. Rookie Stephen Donahue finished second with Jeffery Bousquet in third. Crownshield came hope a disappointing fourth. Cameron Ouellette, Derek Barker, Mike Billado, Derrick Calkins, Martin, and Dylan Payea rounded out the top-10.

 

Bunker Hodgdon led wire-to-wire in a caution-free Allen Lumber Street Stock feature to pick up his fifth career win. The 2013 Street Stock Champion withstood heavy pressure throughout the event from event from runner-up Jamie Davis, third-place finisher Alan Maynard, and Marcel J. Gravel. Jaden Perry, Tyler Austin, Jamon Perry, Jeremy Colson, Garry Bashaw, and Kyle Streeter completed the top-10.

 

Thunder Road kicks off its Thursday night racing season on June 11 with Harvest Equipment Night, featuring the annual Kid's Rides. All three divisions will be in action. The Kid's Rides are from 4:00-4:40pm with post time at 6:30pm.

 

The ACT Late Models and PASS Super Late Models can be seen together again at the 3rdAnnual ACT International 500 on July 18 and 19 at Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY. Both divisions will run 200-lap, $10,000+-to-win events. Qualifying events will be held on Saturday, July 18, with features on Sunday, July 19.

St-Eustache, 24 mai 2015 (YL) – C'est à toute une fin de course qu'on eu droit les nombreux amateurs de  qui s'étaient entassés dans les gradins de l'Autodrome St-Eustache, malgré la soirée glaciale de ce samedi soir. Ceux-ci ont été tenus sur le bout de leur siège jusqu'à la toute fin de l'épreuve.

 

Dix-huit des engagés de la série ACT avaient accepté le départ de cette finale de 100 tours. C'est le jeune Martin Goulet jr (83) qui a pris la tête dès le départ, profitant de la pôle position pour le lancement de la course. Goulet qui roulait très bien en tête de peloton, a su résister quelques temps  aux attaques de ses poursuivants, Laperle, Labbé, Trépanier, Bouvrette, qui sont finalement parvenu à le doubler tour à tour. Laperle, profitant d'un circuit dégagé, alors qu'il avait pris les devants est parvenu à dominer la majorité des tours du reste de l'épreuve, malgré les attaques de son poursuivant, Alex Labbé et une voiture no. 48 de l'Équipe Larue des plus menaçante.

 

Durant ce temps, on a pu assister derrière les deux meneurs, à de belles luttes, dont celles entre Danny Trépanier (19), Jonathan Bouvrette (41) et Martin Goulet jr (83), entr'autres.

 

Vers la fin de l'épreuve, alors que Laperle filait allégrement vers la victoire, ayant passé sous le drapeau blanc, annonçant le dernier tour, en tête après avoir résisté aux nombreuses attaques d'Alex Labbé a été désagréablement surpris de l'intérieur par ce dernier à la sortie de la courbe no. 4 provoquant une bousculade entre les voitures 91 et 48.  C'est finalement la voiture 48 qui a pu prendre la tête au dernier quart de tour et passer le fil d'arrivée en premier devant un Patrick Laperle furieux de la tournure des événements. Danny Trépanier (19), Jonathan Bouvrette (41) et Martin Goulet jr (83) ont complété le premier groupe de 5 de cette épreuve. 

 

Treize des dix-huit participants ont complété tous les  tours de l'épreuve qui a été ponctuée de 6 ralentissements. Deux seuls ont été contraints à l'abandon en cours d'épreuve.

 

Les deux qualifications ont été remportées par Martin Goulet jr (83) et Jonathan Bouvrette (41).

 

La prochaine course de l'ACT aura lieu à l'Autodrome Chaudière de Vallée-Jonction lors du prochain week-end.

La recrue Éric Gagnon signe la victoire à son premier départ en Sportsman Lucas Oil en @NASCAR All-Amercian Whelen Division 1.

Gagnon qui a mené à quelques reprises a profité de l'erreur des vétérans Jean-François Bouvrette et Martin Lacombe qui étaient 1-2 et qui se sont terminé en glissade hors piste à quelques tours de la fin des 50 tours prévues.

Officieusement Alain Bougie, André Sylvain, Sylvain Contant et Hani Chiniara complètent le top-5.

Soulignons la performance de Joe Mayer, qui termine 6e et comme Gagnon, qui en était à son premier départ en sportsman après avoir gradué des mini-Légendes.

Dur soirée pour Stéphane Aubin qui a vu le moteurs rendre l'âme.

Barre, VT—The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North took to Barre, VT's Thunder Road on Saturday, May 23, marking the first time since 1995 that Super Late Models had been on the high banks. The four-hour open practice session was held in preparation for the Mekkelsen Memorial Day Classic on Sunday, May 24.

 

The day began badly for two expected contenders. PASS North point leader Mike Rowe blew an engine after just a seven-lap run. Defending American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Champion Joey Polewarczyk Jr. also lost a motor later in the session.

 

Rowe is reportedly receiving a powerplant from the RPM Motorsports team for Sunday's event. Meanwhile, "Joey Pole" has borrowed an engine from Mike's son Ben Rowe and Richard Moody Racing.

 

A mix of PASS and ACT drivers were at the top of the speed charts. 2013 PASS North Champion Cassius Clark, eight-time ACT Tour Champion Brian Hoar, and two-time ACT Tour Champion Wayne Helliwell Jr. all turned laps in the 12.6- to 12.7-second range. A large group of drivers were consistently near 12.8 seconds.

 

ACT and Thunder Road invaders were well-represented and all looked competitive. In addition to Pole, Hoar, and Helliwell, the field saw former Labor Day Classic Champion Travis Stearns and former ACT Rookie of the Year Bobby Therrien. Two-time "King of the Road" Dave Pembroke was also in attendance and is expected to do double-duty on Sunday.

 

The 53rd Annual Mekkelsen Memorial Day Classic will be held at Thunder Road on Sunday, May 24. PASS North will run 150 laps in their inaugural visit, while Thunder Road's ACT Late Models will kick off their 2015 title chase with a 100-lap event. The Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen and Allen Lumber Street Stocks will also be in action. The front gates open at 10:00am with post time at 1:30pm. Admission is $30 for adults and free for kids 12 and under.

CE SAMEDI À L'AUTODROME ST-EUSTACHE PREMIÈRE COURSE EN SOL QUÉBÉCOIS POUR LES PILOTES ACT QUÉBEC



St-Eustache, 20 mai 2015 (YL) - C'est ce samedi 23 mai que le premier drapeau vert de la saison 2015 en sol québécois pour les pilotes ACT sera donné pour le départ d'une finale de 100 tours qui sera disputée sur l'ovale de quatre dixièmes de mille de l'autodrome St-Eustache, situé sur la couronne nord de Montréal., à Saint-Eustache.

 

Pour plusieurs pilotes ACT, ils en seront à leur deuxième course de la saison , ayant participé au ''Spring Green 115'' dimanche dernier à la piste AIRBORNE de Plattsburgh NY. Patrick Laperle, de St-Denis-sur-Richelieu a été le meilleur de ceux-ci avec une 2e position, derrière le vainqueur, Joey Polewarczyk, du New Hampshire et la voiture no. 97,  dans cette course réunissant les meilleurs canadiens et américains de l'ACT dans le cadre de la première d'une triple couronne qui sera tenue à cet endroit au cours de la saison 2015.

 

Parmi les pilotes québécois qui participeront à cette finale de 100 tours ce samedi à l'ASE, il y aura l'équipe Larue, les champions de 2014 qui espèrent compter sur leur pilote régulier, Alex Labbé qui s'est blessé à un  pied just'avant de prendre le départ le la course NASCAR Canadian Tire à Mosport dimanche dernier. Jonathan Bouvrette, de Blainville tentera, quant à lui, de connaître un meilleur résultat que la semaine dernière à Plattsburgh, ayant été contraint à l'abandon au 75e tour de la course, suite à des problèmes de surchauffe. Il y aura aussi les Simoneau, Coursol, Roussin, Trépanier, Claude Leclerc, avec une monture flambant neuve, Martin Goulet jr et les autres réguliers, en plus des nouvelles recrues.  Les dirigeants de l'ACT sont confiants d'avoir une grille de départ de 20 voitures et plus.

 

Les amateurs locaux de la piste eustachoise seront également heureux de voir en piste Patrick Boucher, le champion 2014 en Sport-Compacte, qui a fait le saut en ACT en fin de saison 2014 et qui sera en piste ce samedi.

 

Les divisions locales de l'Autodrome St-Eustache, NASCAR Sportsman, Modifiés 358, Sport Compactes, Légendes Modifiées et Challenge 4 seront également de la partie lors de ce programme d'ouverture.

 

Les puits ouvriront à midi, tandis que les pratiques débuteront à 13h50, les qualifications à 17h10 et le signal du départ de la première finale sera donné à 18h45 pour les Challenge 4, suivis des autres divisions à tour de rôle.

 

Le prix d'admission générale pour les adultes sera de 30$, pour les 13-17 ans ce sera 15$ et les moins de 12 ans seront admis gratuitement. L'accès aux puits sera de 35$ pour tous. Un super-programme à prévoir!

Waterbury, VT – The American Racer Three Star program is designed to recognize three teams in no particular order of performance that had outstanding races at American-Canadian Tour (ACT) U.S. tour events. There are no specific criteria for deciding who might receive the award of a free American Racer Tire (value $125.00), but a special effort by a team, exceptional race, just plain old hard luck, or any other accepted reason to give the award is used to decide the award recipients.

 

The three stars are chosen by ACT officials and will receive certificates for use of a free American Racer tire at a race of their choosing during 2015.

The tradition of the Spring Green, which began in 1974 at Catamount Stadium in Milton, VT, has moved around over the years from track to track. It has been run at Plattsburgh, NY's Airborne Park Speedway on 21 occasions, the most of any track. The list of winners is a history book of Late Model racing in the northeast (see below). The 41st edition of the race took place at Airborne last Sunday, arguably one of the favorite tracks the ACT Late Models appear at each year. A perfect day for racing and a spirited battle between friendly rivals Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. of Hudson, NH and St-Denis, QC's Patrick Laperle kept fans from both sides of the border happy for the entire event. The other seven-team battle that raged for the second half of the event was also an example of great short track racing.

*Brandon Atkins, Au Sable Forks, NY – 4NY—The 2014 ACT Rookie of the Year was one of the fastest cars during practice in preparation for the Spring Green. Coming off a strong effort at the Merchants Bank 150 at Thunder Road two weeks ago, the talented high school graduate was at his family-owned track. "My favorite track is actually Devil's Bowl and I can't wait to get back there next month for the ACT race," Atkins said.

His skill is showing early at both the ¼-mile bullrings like Thunder Road and bigger tracks such as the Airborne ½-mile. Some early heavy traffic found the 4NY involved in a caution in the "Calamity Corner" that was turns 3 and 4, and Atkins was sent to the rear. But the youngster showed impressive resilience and the ability to overcome adversity. Brandon fought back and salvaged a solid 11th-place finish from what was looking like a disappointing day. His recovery keeps him positioned in eighth place in the ACT Championship point standings going into the opening event at the new Speedway 51 in Groveton, NH, on Saturday, May 30, where the 4NY team spent much of last year's race in the top two positions. For his positive attitude and the team's "never give up" motto, Brandon Atkins earns a Star of the Race Award for the Spring Green 115.

 

*Brad Babb, Windham, ME - 15NH—Another former ACT Rookie of the Year, Beech Ridge Motor Speedway track champion, and solid top-five championship contender in ACT for the 2015 campaign was a victim of the yellow sequence between laps 42 and 44 (the only three yellows of the event). The Joey Laquerre–owned entry for the Babb family racing team was having a solid early run until they were involved in the multi-car melee between turns 3 and 4. The accordion mess separated a host of competitive cars from the front runners and changed their strategy of saving tires and patience. Brad had won the last ACT race at Thunder Road and looked like he would be a contender to challenge for the Spring Green until that incident. He fought his way back to the mid-pack battle and spent the majority of time in the outside lane to claim a respectable finish and remain in the top-five in points. For the excellent recovery from some bad luck, Babb and his team are awarded a much deserved Star of the Race Award.

 

*Rich Dubeau, Plainfield, NH - 30NH—Once again this rookie contender surprised many in attendance with his full day of progress. As has been the case at every race during the young season, new tracks, different configurations, and different sizes have been the challenges this rookie team has faced. Their attitude and ability to adapt to the various challenges presented has been one of the most impressive offerings of the early season. Practice left the 30NH low on the speed charts, and they appeared tentative at best in their heat race. By consolation time the team, and apparently the driver, adjusted and earned a solid starting spot in the middle of the feature. A very impressive run on the outside lane throughout the event and running as part of the dynamic mid-pack race will serve to season this capable newcomer. For the continued improvement throughout the race, this rookie team finds in 10th place in the point standings after completing nearly a third of the championship run. The Rich Dubeau team is certainly deserving of another Star of the Race Award and seems headed for one of the most competitive rookie runs in recent memory.

 

The ACT Late Model Tour will be back in action for the Generation Next 151 at Speedway 51 in Groveton, NH on Saturday, May 30. Post time for the track's season opener is 5:30pm.

Mission accomplie pour les nouveaux promoteurs de l'Autodrome Chaudière



C'est sous un ciel ensoleillé que les spectateurs ont répondu à l'appel du premier programme de l'Autodrome Chaudière ce dimanche 17 mai.


C'est pas moins de 21 voitures PASS, 22 voitures Sportsman, 10 voitures Limités, 15 Sport Compact Amateur, 24 Sport Compact Élite et 13 Mini Sportsman qui se sont présentées pour participer au PASS 150 Frameco.


En ce qui concerne les Sport Compact Amateur, terminant 2e en séance de qualification, les honneurs vont au #18 Jean-Philippe Groleau de Ste-Marie qui a remporté la finale de 25 tours au-devant du #76 Marc-Antoine Carrier de St-Fabien de Panet et de Sébastien Lambert de St-Elzéar.


Quant au Sport Compact Élite, le champion défendant le #75 Steve Godbout commandité principalement par Construction Couture a su maintenir sa place pour remporter la finale malgré la pression soutenue du #26 Martin Bisson et du #98 Pascal Turgeon qui ont mené une chaude lutte à Godbout. C'est donc ces deux pilotes qui ont complété le podium soit en deuxième position, le #98 Pascal Turgeon commandité principalement par Autobus Montmagny et finalement le #26 Martin Bisson commandité principalement par Transport Richard Bisson.


Pour ce qui est de la classe Limité, ils nous ont offerts un spectacle convaincant et c'est le #46 Steve Simoneau commandité principalement par Automobiles Wendake qui a remporté la victoire suivi de près par le #116 Francis Grégoire commandité principalement par Fondatation P. C'est le #71 James Vachon, commandité principalement par Garage 10/10 qui complète ce podium.


Étant en constante évolution, la Série Mini Sportsman a pris la décision après la séance de pratique de diviser ses deux groupes soient développement et Élite en deux finales distinctes. La foule a apprécié le spectacle des deux classes et ont pu voir le #88 Thomas Côté commandité principalement par Métalico remporté sa première victoire de l'année en classe développement suivi par les recrues le #7 Wylliam Perron commandité principalement par Eau Service et la #8 Victoria Bélanger commanditée principalement par Posimage. En classe Élite, c'est le #46 Tommy Simoneau commandité par M.A Construction qui, tout comme l'an dernier, a remporté la première victoire de l'année suivi par le #13 Samuel Boyer commandité principalement par Stéphane Bernard Mini Excavation et le #38 Mathieu Goulet commandité principalement par Remorquage Goulet qui complète le podium.


Nous avons ensuite pu voir le PASS 150 Frameco. Le jeune Raphaël Lessard a surpris la foule avec sa victoire en séance de qualification. Terminant en 6e position en finale, le pilote de 13 ans commandité principalement par FRL Express a reçu une ovation des spectateurs lorsque l'annonceur Bobby Prezeau l'a interviewé.


La course a été ralentie par l'indiscipline de certains pilotes PASS qui ont malgré tout offert un spectacle à la hauteur des attentes. L'américain #4 Ben Rowe a remporté cette finale devant le #73 Joey Doiron. C'est le #16 Kevin Roberge qui a complété le podium lui qui, rappelons-le, remettait la somme de sa bourse à la cause On roule pour Nathan.


La Série Sportsman Québec a terminé le programme. Encore une fois l'indiscipline de certains pilotes a causé plusieurs drapeaux jaunes en début de course. Il faut mentionner la performance du #16 Rock Poulin qui a su résister à la pression de ses adversaires pour obtenir cette victoire. Poulin, commandité principalement par Amusements Rock a eu à lutter pour sa place devant un #25 Pier-Luc Labbé décidé plus que jamais à embarquer sur le podium. Terminant en deuxième position, Pier-Luc Labbé commandité principalement par Société Louis Jacques était particulièrement satisfait de sa performance. C'est le #17 Jimmy Nadeau de Beauville qui a complété ce podium beauceron. Nadeau qui a connu une saison difficile l'an dernier entame 2015 avec une 3e position bien méritée. Commandité principalement par Lucas Oil, Jimmy Nadeau est resté constant toute la course et sa patience a été gagnante.

PASS Young Guns Looking To Follow In Fathers' Footsteps At Concord

CHARLOTTE, NC (May 19) – Anticipation continues to build as the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Models and KOMA Unwind Modified Madness Series prepare for this Friday night's Old Glory Twin 125s at Concord Speedway.  Located about 20 minutes from Charlotte Motor Speedway, the Old Glory Twin 125s will mark the first racing action held at Concord Speedway since PASS held the Mason Dixon Meltdown there in November, 2012.

PASS South is celebrating 10 years of making Super Late Model history in 2015 and has established itself as one of the premier short track divisions in all of racing.  Likewise, Concord Speedway has made its share of history.  First, as a 4/10 mile dirt oval that hosted such legendary names as Freddy Smith, Jack Pennington, Jeff Purvis, and Mike Duvall.  And then, transforming into its triangular shaped, half-mile paved configuration that the stars of PASS and the KOMA Unwind Modifieds will tackle on Friday night.  The iconic Big 10 Super Late Model Series made names of such short track stars as Rich Bickle, Jack Sprague, and Freddie Query, just to name a few.

Midland, NC's Jared Irvan and Darlington, SC's Hayes Goodson are both third generation racers looking to make a name for themselves in the PASS portion of Friday night's Old Glory Twin 125s.  But, that is not where the similarities end.  Irvan and Goodson are following in the footsteps of their fathers, both of whom enjoyed success at Concord Speedway during their climb up the racing ladder.

Ernie Irvan's career is well documented.  Irvan was a consistent championship contender in the upper tier of stock car racing and winner of the 1991 Daytona 500.  But, on his way to the top, Irvan began making a name for himself racing first on dirt, and then on asphalt, at Concord after moving East from California.  Irvan was a top Six-Cylinder division racer on the dirt at Concord in the 1980's and also enjoyed success in Super Late Models when the track was paved.  Eventually catching the eye of Dale Earnhardt and setting him on his way.

"When I first moved here from California, Concord Speedway was like the dirt tracks I raced out there," said Ernie Irvan.  "It was natural for me with it being so close to Charlotte.  Concord was a great place for me to hone my racing career and I look forward to seeing Jared race there Friday night with the PASS series."

For young Jared Irvan, racing at Concord Speedway means a lot.  The Irvans live just minutes from the speedway and Jared once raced Legends cars at the quarter mile oval just across the street from the half-mile triangle.  Friday night's Old Glory Twin 125s will be Jared Irvan's first chance to race on the track that helped make his father famous.

"It would be great to bring home a win where my dad started his racing career on the East Coast," says Jared Irvan.  "Concord Speedway has a lot of history and I think it's great that PASS is having a race there.  Plus, it's means a lot to race that close to home, not only because there will be friends and family watching, but because there are so many people in town for the Coke 600."

Although not running a full season this year, Jared Irvan comes to Concord knowing he has a fast car.  He captured the quick qualifying time in last year's Mason Dixon Meltdown at Southern National Raceway Park and in his only start this season at Anderson Motor Speedway.  After a third place finish in PASS South Super Late Model points last year, Irvan hopes Concord can be where he captures that elusive first win.

"My expectations are pretty high coming into this race," says Irvan.  "We had some bad luck spoil our last two runs at Southern National and Anderson.  Now coming into Concord we have to keep it in one piece till the end.  I know [crew chief] Jamie Rouleau will give me a fast race car."

Hayes Goodson is very familiar with Jared Irvan's story.  Like Irvan, Goodson followed his grandfather, Howard, and dad, Hal, into the driver's seat.  Hal Goodson found success racing Six-Cylinders on dirt throughout the eastern Carolinas, all while attending college at The Citadel.  Eventually, he also graduated to asphalt Super Late Models racing at Florence Motor Speedway and Myrtle Beach Speedway in his native South Carolina.  With support from a Charlotte company, Downtown Radio, Goodson moved to the Big 10 Series at Concord Speedway and became an instant frontrunner.  Those experiences at Concord gave Goodson the knowledge he needed to become a 2-time All Pro Series champion.  Now Hayes is forging his own path with PASS.

"My dad's always told me one thing 'Drive it straight up off', but he sorta let's me do my own thing," says Hayes Goodson.  "He's always made me try to go out and pick up things on my own.  I feel like this has helped me throughout the years and hopefully it can carry over to Concord."

Although Hayes Goodson is still new to PASS Super Late Models, making only his second career start this Friday night at Concord, he still feels confident.  He has become a proven winner in Late Models and Trucks and Dillon Motor Speedway and raced at Concord Speedway in a PASS Pro Late Model back in 2012.

"Concord is one of my favorite tracks," says Goodson.  "When we came here in the Pro Late Model everything clicked right off the bat.  It's both challenging and very fast, making it a great track for drivers and fans."

Irvan and Goodson will be joined by an already impressive group of pre-entered drivers including PASS South Super Late Model points leader Zane Smith and teammate Matt Craig.  Former Mason Dixon Meltdown winners, Colt James, Preston Peltier, Trevor Noles are entered, along with last year's North-South Shootout winner at Caraway, Ryan Moore.  Championship contenders Jody Measamer, Jimmy Doyle, and Tate Fogleman will be joined by Texan Derek Scott, Jr., who had the quick qualifying time at Hickory, and Brandon Ward and Billy Lemmons making their first starts of 2015.

Action begins on Thursday, May 21 with optional practice at Concord Speedway for the PASS South Super Late Models, PASS Pro Late Models, KOMA Unwind Mofifieds and Street Stocks from 3-7 PM.  On Friday, May 22, pit gates open at 11 AM, with rotating practice starting at 1 PM, followed by qualifying at 5 PM, and main event racing featuring the Old Glory Twin 125's at 7 PM.

With one show down and the balance of the 2015 campaign to go, all indications point toward another exciting season at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval.

 

A quick check of the finishing orders from the first night of racing shows names other than the usual suspects turning in some solid efforts, indicating that a number of teams put in some long hours in the shop during the off-season. Peterborough Speedway owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse says that seeing new faces running near the front of the pack is an important step in building the track's fan base.

 

"Everyone who comes through the main gate has a favourite driver, but there is just something about the sport of short track stock car racing that loves seeing a first time winner," said Josiasse. "When an underdog takes the checkered flag and upsets a favourite, the place goes wild. What we do is based on the support and dedication of family, friends and neighbours. It's great when we can have some new faces find their way to the winner's circle."

 

After some less than spectacular runs, plagued by mechanical gremlins resulted in an 11th place finish in the final 2014 Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car point standings, Rob Richards logged a solid opening night of action to kick-off the new campaign. The driver of the #15 Chevrolet – who was tutored by Late Model veteran Mike Wallace last season – managed a 2nd place finish in the main event.

 

2015 promises to be an exciting season at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City. Just a toonie gets you through the main grandstand gate for Fan Appreciation Nights Saturday, May 30th, July 11th and August 15th. The inaugural APC Pro Late Model Tour has a 100 lap spectacular booked for Saturday, July 18th and the always popular Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series is back Saturday, August 8th.

 

Action gets back on track Saturday, May 23rd as the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series and OSCAAR Legends make their first appearances of the year, joining a night of racing with the Mini Stocks and Paul Davis Systems Thunder Cars. Pit gates open at 3:00, with the spectator areas unlocked at 5:00 and racing at 6:00.

After a far from stellar 2014 campaign, Rob Richards started off the new season with an impressive runner-up finish in the Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car feature – Saturday, May 16th – at Peterborough Speedway.
