Shawn Duquette, Mike Mahaney Capture Back-to-Back Thursday Night Thunder wins

Plattsburgh, NY-Mike Mahaney and Shawn Duquette both remained red hot as they each collected their second consecutive feature win in their respective divisions on Kid’s Poster Night at Airborne Park Speedway on Thursday. All weekly divisions were on the card, including a special for the Renegades with extended laps and extra cash on the line.

The first feature event of the evening was the Renegade Special for 30 laps and $500 to win. Rick Doaner and Josh Terry led the field to the green flag with Terry grabbing the early advantage with his brother, defending track champion Tylor Terry, in tow. With the Terrys showing the way up front, Duquette powered his way around Brad Bushey on lap three and set his radar on the top two. Meanwhile, Billy Thwaits was on the move through the field. After starting 13th, Thwaits had joined the top five by lap six. Caution flew on lap seven, and when the racing resumed, Josh Terry drove back to the point, but a four-car skirmish between Duquette, Tylor Terry, Thwaits, and Bushey developed behind him. Duquette eventually took control of the spot by the halfway point and began to chase down the leader. Caution came out again, forcing a lap 16 restart. Josh Terry retained the lead with Thwaits applying pressure to Duquette for second. With 10 laps to go, it appeared as though Josh Terry would lead wire to wire, but Duquette started to close. On the backstretch of the final circuit, Duquette drove to the inside of Terry and muscled his way past him off of turn four to collect the checkers for the third time this season. Josh Terry crossed the line second, Thwaits third, Tylor Terry fourth, and Bushey fifth.

In the Hartson Total Opening DirtCar 358 Modified Feature, Mahaney once again navigated his way from a double-digit starting spot to win his second in a row. Matt Woodruff and Tanner Siemons battled for the early lead, but “The Adam” Bomb” Adam Pierson took control on lap seven. The caution flew twice around the midway point, once for a Carey Terrance spin and another time for debris. On the second restart, Dany Gagne and Felix Roy began to make their voices heard. Roy claimed the second spot on lap 15, and Gagne began to pressure Siemons for third. With 10 laps to go, Roy was reeling in Pierson, and Mahaney had entered the top five. Five laps from the finish, the yellow lights came on again, setting up a dash to the checkers between Pierson, Roy, and Mahaney. Roy snatched the lead from Pierson when green flag action returned, with Mahaney following him through. Mahaney slid to the outside lane on the exit of turn two on the final lap and nosed slightly ahead of Roy. “Smooth Shoe” shoved his car deep into turn three to complete the pass of Roy, capturing the showdown of the past two track champions at “The Big A.” Following the top two across the stripe were Pierson, Tim Fuller, and Siemons.

Having seen the events that transpired in two of the previous features, Michael Wright decided he would not stand for another thrilling last-lap finish in the 25-lap J&S Steel Sportsman Modified feature. There was plenty of exciting competition during the race, but it was all behind Wright. While Lonnie Rivers, Vince Quenneville, and Caleb Durgan put on a great show in their quests for the runner-up spot, Wright ran away and hid. The field was gifted an opportunity to take down Wright with 16 laps remaining when the caution lights came on. Rivers made a strong run at Wright for a couple of laps on the restart, but the 78 car was just too dominant, quickly darting away to a full straightaway lead and cruising to victory. Rivers finished second, Durgan third, Nick Heywood fourth, and Codie Aubin fifth.

Reigning track champion Kobe Hernandez captured his first win of the season in the 25-lap RainPro of Vermont Limited Sportsman Modified main event. Adam LaFountain sprang from the pole to lead the first seven laps. The red flag came out for a pair of incidents on lap seven. First, Tyler Van Weort rolled his machine in turn one. Then, as the red flag and lights were displayed, four of the top contenders were involved in a scrum at the other end of the track. When the dust settled, LaFountain, the early leader, and David Johnson had cars too damaged to continue. When the green flag came back out, Hernandez got the jump on Lea-Jeanne Lauziere and cruised to a decisive victory. Lauziere, Cody Gregoropolous, Parker Dermody, and Gary English rounded out the top five.

The final race of the night was the Mini Stock 15-lap feature event. Tyler Bell jumped to the early lead and threatened to run away from the pack, but caution came out with four laps complete to restack the field. After the restart, Bell resumed command of the lead as a gaggle of cars jockeyed for position throughout the top 10. Racing came to a halt once again on lap nine as Ernest Parent rolled up on his side on the front stretch. On the ensuing restart, Josh Laporte Jr. snatched the point away from Bell and held off Jp Corrow and Bell for his first win of 2026. Corrow was second, Bell third, Joshua Blake fourth, and Jeremiah King fifth.

“Thursday Night Thunder” continues at Airborne Park Speedway on Thursday, June 4th, with the always popular Spectator Races. All weekly divisions will also be in action. Grandstand gates open at 5:30 p.m. Racing is at 7:00 p.m. Grandstand admission is $15. Kids 12 and under are free. Pit admission is $30 for members. $40 for non-members.

Zachary Cheng Finds Peterborough Speedway Bone Stock Victory Lane

Zachary Cheng Finds Peterborough Speedway Bone Stock Victory Lane
By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media
The story about good things coming to those who wait came true Saturday, May 30th at Peterborough Speedway. After 5 years of trying, Zachary Cheng finally scored his first career main event win in the track’s hometown Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock division.
Following the pre-race draw for starting spots, Cheng would be on the inside of the front row for the 20-lap headliner. From the drop of the green flag, the driver of the No. 39 machine would lead the way while the balance of the 22-car starting field battled for position behind him.

Lap after lap, the 24-year-old runner from Brooklin, Ontario continued to strengthen his lead while running consistent laps at the front of the field. Zachary Cheng – who began his Peterborough Speedway racing career in a car with duct taped numbers – was the star of the show in a race that ran caution-free through the entire distance. Everyone loves seeing a first-time winner and Cheng’s inaugural trip to the victory lane proved to be popular with fans and his fellow competitors.
After completing the latest step in his Peterborough Speedway Bone Stock division racing development, Zachary Cheng was quick to acknowledge everyone who has helped with his program. The driver thanks his sponsors Comic Alley Toys, Strawnco77, David Burns from Matco Tools and Clarke Motorsports Communications.
“The stars aligned and the Racing Gods said, “it’s your turn,” as Zachary Cheng explained in victory lane and in a social media post. “I have to thank my RunsamoK Racing teammates Shawn Solomon and Victoria McLenon. My racing friends John, Brad and Christen Lavalle, crew members Matt and Matt and everyone who has reached out after the win. Especially my beautiful girlfriend Sammy who has been by my side through the good and bad times.”
Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock teams will be back in action during the Double Toonie/Fan Appreciation Night – presented by Pepsi – Saturday, June 6th at Peterborough Speedway. Spectator grandstand admission is just $ 4.00, with racing starting at 5:00.

For complete details, schedule news and information be sure to check www.peterboroughspeedway.com and the track’s social media platforms and pages.
