NASCAR Announces Revised 2020 Pinty’s Series Schedule

NASCAR Announces Revised 2020 Pinty's Series Schedule

Shortened Season to Feature Three Twin-125 Race Weekends

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 4, 2020) – NASCAR today announced a revised 2020 NASCAR Pinty's Series schedule comprised of three twin-125 race weekends. The six-race season will feature two races apiece at Sunset Speedway (Aug. 15), Flamboro Speedway (Aug. 29) and Jukasa Speedway (Sept. 12).

Following local, provincial and federal guidelines, no spectators will be in attendance for the 2020 season. All races will air delayed on TSN and RDS in Canada and MAVTV in the United States. The full broadcast schedule, including start times, will be released at a later date.

"While we are disappointed that we are unable to run our intended schedule in front of fans, we're looking forward to the return of racing in Canada," said Chad Seigler, NASCAR vice president of international business development and partnerships. "I want to thank our friends at Pinty's for helping us get back on the race track. We are working closely with local and provincial officials and our teams and drivers to put on safe events that are respectful of new regulations from the ongoing pandemic."

Because of the nature of the reduced schedule, no Pinty's Series champion or Rookie of the Year will be crowned in 2020. There will, however, be special recognition for the overall winner of the shortened season. Drivers will earn points based on the same scale traditionally used.

Flamboro Speedway will be hosting the NASCAR Pinty's Series for the first time. The series ran at Sunset Speedway in 2015 and 2016, both races won by Alex Tagliani. Jukasa Speedway was previously scheduled to hold two Pinty's Series races this season.

NASCAR STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF MAURICE PETTY

"The 'Chief' was one of the most talented mechanics in NASCAR history. He provided the power that helped Petty Enterprises define dominance in sports. While he was known for his work under the hood, Maurice played multiple "behind-the-scenes" roles, doing whatever it took to help deliver his cars to Victory Lane. On behalf of the France family, I offer my condolences to the friends and family of Maurice Petty, a true NASCAR giant."

"Following discussions with our race teams and the broader industry, NASCAR will continue to conduct its race weekends without practice and qualifying for the remainder of the 2020 season in all three national series. Peterborough Speedway’s 2020 Schedule Remains on Hold

Peterborough Speedway's 2020 Schedule Remains on Hold

By Jim Clarke, Clarke Motorsports Communications/First Draft Media

We're waking each morning hoping for change. Change is coming, but as history tells us, the more things change, the more they stay the same. At least for now. By this point in any other season, drivers and teams at Peterborough Speedway would already be about a couple of months into the year. Because of COVID-19, everyone knows 2020 is far from any other season.

After originally looking at a Saturday, May 16th launch, the coronavirus pandemic forced track staff to postpone the first half of the season. Social distancing protocol and policies legislated by officials sidelined racing at the Mount Pleasant Road facility until permission is granted and events are in a holding pattern until further notice. Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says that while the decision is regrettable, its one that has to be made for the good of the sport.

"While adhering to the strict guidelines put in place by the provincial government, we've been able to make the facility available for test sessions, but everything else is on hold," Josiasse said. "Some facilities that have elected to stage events without fans in attendance, but we're not going to follow that trend. We owe it to our loyal supporters and sponsors to stick with our original plan. Peterborough Speedway won't be racing this year without being open the gates to everyone, just like we've done for the last 53 years."

While spectator sports recently received the approval to begin under the 3rd stage of the provincial reopening process, crowd size is limited to a maximum of 100 fans which still isn't a viable option when it comes to kicking-off the season. Josiasse says he and other promoters will continue to lobby the province to increase the size of allowable gatherings, with the main focus on the safety of spectators, fans and staff.

Even without a green flag in the track's imminent future, the crew at Peterborough Speedway looks to continue its track rentals for testing every Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Sessions – with no spectators in attendance – run between 11:00 and 4:00 each day. Participants are required to pre-register and provide answers to a COVID-19 screening questionnaire.

"We have some drivers who've updated their equipment from last season and some first time runners too," said J.P. Josiasse. "We need to do whatever we can to give them some seat time so they can come-up with a fresh set of notes to start the year. Putting the machines through their paces now can help find issues that could be a problem once we finally get the season underway."

Bullring bullet points: Track sponsorship partner The Old Smoke House Catering is offering convenient weekly family food orders, with a wide variety of main course and dessert items and packages to meet any budget. Orders are available with curbside pick-up at the Old Smoke House Catering in Ennismore. Seewww.oldsmokehouse.ca or call 705.292.0560 for more information and ordering details.

NASCAR statement

"Following the guidelines outlined in the Event Operations Protocol manual, Jimmie Johnson has alerted NASCAR that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

"NASCAR has outlined the steps for Johnson's return, in accordance with the CDC's current guidelines, which includes that Johnson is symptom free and has two negative COVID-19 test results, at least 24 hours apart. NASCAR requires Johnson to be cleared by his physician before returning to racing.

"Jimmie is a true battle-tested champion, and we wish him well in his recovery. NASCAR has granted Jimmie a playoff waiver, and we look forward to his return as he races for an eighth NASCAR Cup Series championship."

NASCAR to Honor Frontline and Military Heroes Alike in

NASCAR Salutes Refreshed by Coca-Cola

Industry-wide platform to kick off with 2020 Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400 at the Brickyard

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 1, 2020) – Beginning this weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and running through July 31, the NASCAR industry will honor United States Armed Forces and frontline healthcare heroes as part of this year's expanded NASCAR Salutes Refreshed by Coca-Cola – an industry-wide opportunity to recognize and thank those who have gone above and beyond to keep society safe and healthy.

For the first time ever, NASCAR Salutes Refreshed by Coca-Cola will kick off with the Big Machine Hand Sanitizer 400 at the Brickyard (Sunday, July 5 at 4 p.m. ET on NBC, IMS Radio and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio), as the platform shifts to a mid-summer window due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

NASCAR Premier Partner Coca-Cola returns as the presenting sponsor of NASCAR Salutes Refreshed by Coca-Cola, as the company will take an active role curating and highlighting stories of frontline personnel and other heroes during the platform window.

"We take pride in honoring all who work tirelessly to keep our nation safe, whether a frontline worker in the fight against COVID-19 or part of our U.S. Armed Forces protecting us around the world," said Jill Gregory, executive vice president and chief marketing and content officer, NASCAR. "The NASCAR industry has always been passionate about saluting our nation's heroes both past and present, and we once again look forward to recognizing those who serve."

As part of the evolved campaign for 2020, NASCAR and Coca-Cola will create content opportunities to celebrate heroic work from our military and first responder community during the COVID-19 pandemic. In partnership with NBC, NASCAR and Coca-Cola will celebrate heroes in the military and medical community, and NASCAR and Coca-Cola's dedicated actions to support our community. Through NASCAR digital and social channels, the industry will spotlight even more stories with a new "NASCAR Salutes Refreshing Moments" feature that will also be hosted on NASCAR.com/Salutes.

"While this crisis has impacted everyone's daily lives, we are able to race because of the selfless acts by our military community and frontline workers," said John Mount, vice president, sports marketing and region assets, Coca-Cola North America. "NASCAR Salutes offers an impactful opportunity to showcase our pride and appreciation for these heroes and their families."

While NASCAR Salutes Refreshed by Coca-Cola shifted due to COVID-19, the industry continued its tradition honoring fallen service members during the annual Memorial Day Weekend 600 Miles of Remembrance at the Coca-Cola 600. All 40 NASCAR Cup Series cars featured the name of a fallen service member on the windshield during the race in honor of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The next weekend during the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway, Xfinity recognized its military community employees from across the company that are working to keep communities safe and connected during the pandemic. Among those recognized were 23 employees actively serving in the National Guard who are responding to the current crisis. The names of those Comcast employees, and a patriotic red, white and blue design replaced the Xfinity logo adorning each drivers' windshield.

A number of other NASCAR Official Partners leaned in to support the program as well:

Fans can learn more about the heroes honored throughout the NASCAR Salutes Refreshed by Coca-Cola program by visiting NASCAR.com/Salutes

NASCAR Statement - FBI INVESTIGATION

NASCAR Statement

"The FBI has completed its investigation at Talladega Superspeedway and determined that Bubba Wallace was not the target of a hate crime. The FBI report concludes, and photographic evidence confirms, that the garage door pull rope fashioned like a noose had been positioned there since as early as last fall. This was obviously well before the 43 team's arrival and garage assignment. We appreciate the FBI's quick and thorough investigation and are thankful to learn that this was not an intentional, racist act against Bubba. We remain steadfast in our commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all who love racing."

NASCAR Appoints Brandon Thompson to Vice President, Diversity and Inclusion

NASCAR Appoints Brandon Thompson to Vice President, Diversity and Inclusion

Thompson to Lead Diversity and Inclusion Strategy and Programs; 17-year Industry Veteran Transitions to New Role After Leading NASCAR Touring Series

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 16, 2020) – NASCAR today announced the appointment of industry veteran Brandon Thompson to  the newly created position of Vice President, Diversity and Inclusion. In this role, Thompson will lead the sanctioning body's strategy for diversity and inclusion, as well as programs and initiatives designed to champion and enhance diversity across the NASCAR industry.

Thompson recently served as Managing Director of the NASCAR Touring Series and in his new role will be based in Charlotte, N.C. He will report to Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Content Officer, Jill Gregory.

"Brandon is an established and well-respected leader in our sport who will help NASCAR realize its vision in creating a more diverse industry," said Gregory. "This new position and Brandon's appointment reinforces our steadfast commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for our fans, industry and employees."

Thompson will oversee an existing team of NASCAR employees responsible for multicultural programs and initiatives including the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Program, as well as strategic alliances with the Institute for Sport and Social Justice and the Diversity and Inclusion Sports Consortium.

The team includes Dawn Harris, who has been elevated to the position of Managing Director, Diversity and Inclusion. Harris will continue to manage diversity programs as well as cultivate and strengthen NASCAR relationships with national and local civic organizations across the country.

Under Thompson's leadership, NASCAR will look to grow and expand upon the sanctioning body's current platform with a diversity and inclusion strategy that will extend across the NASCAR industry and position the sport to attract top diverse talent – on and off the track.

"NASCAR has made significant progress in the areas of diversity and inclusion and we now have an opportunity to build on our momentum – both as a company and industry," said Thompson. "It is with great passion and energy that we will champion our sport as accepting and welcoming of all individuals interested in being part of the NASCAR family."

Thompson was appointed to oversee the NASCAR Touring Series in 2016. Following NASCAR's purchase of the ARCA Racing Series, he managed the integration of the NASCAR Pro Series into the ARCA Menards Series and spearheaded the launch of competition under one banner in 2020.

Thompson's leadership also contributed to the growth of NASCAR's international series and notably the NASCAR Pinty's Series in Canada.

Thompson began his career in motorsports as an intern at Nashville Superspeedway in 2003, a role he applied for through the NASCAR Diversity Internship Program. The Nashville native and 17-year industry veteran now becomes the first diversity intern graduate to join NASCAR's executive ranks as an officer.

As the most visible of NASCAR's diversity initiatives, the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Driver Development Program has helped create a path to national series competition for multicultural drivers such as Bubba Wallace and Daniel Suarez. More than 50 graduates of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity Pit Crew Development Program are now working in NASCAR, including more than 30 crew member alumni competing in the NASCAR Cup Series.
