ACT FORD Crate engine project update.

TMC: After the Airborne I put an hold on the Ford Engine Crate Program. We had tested it at White Mountain, Thunder Road, and Thunder Road again after a couple of small changes. We raced it at Lee, Thunder Road and Airborne... 1/3 mile, 1/4 mile and 1/2 mile track. It was my opinion from what I saw that something was missing in order for it to be competitive with the GM motors. That means, if we approved it for ACT competition, and someone bought one and changed their car around, we would have been somewhat responsible for putting a rule in our rule book that might not prove compatible with our GM rule. I felt it was in the best interest of the project for ACT, ACT competitors and Ford to do some further examination on the engine. |

| ORB: Following the Lee event Cris Michaud told us the biggest issue with the engine was the power curve. It had less torque than the GM engine and needed to be raced differently. It would take so much to wind up to speed. It needed to be kept up in momentum or it wasn’t competitive. Can you corroborate this? TMC: Following Thunder Road's Merchants Bank race, I asked the #6 team to pull the engine and take it back to MacMaster Engine builders. We discovered that the engine did not have the compression we had all agreed to in our early discussions with FORD, we also discovered that the carburetor being used by the #6 team [Editor’s note: Cris Michaud campaigns car number 6 at Thunder Road and select ACT Tour races], although fine with the GM was off considerably on high end performance. TMC: I am not aware of anything at this point. But having the Ford engine option is certainly positioning ACT well. |
