New And Familiar Faces Return As SMRS Modifieds Make Inaugural Visit To Tri-County
- For Immediate Release
CHARLOTTE, NC (July 20) – The Tour-type Modifieds of the Southern Modified Racing Series (SMRS) Presented By PASS return to action this Friday night for "Foothills Night At The Races" at Tri-County Motor Speedway. The series first trip to the multi-groove .416-mile facility will see several familiar faces returning, while the addition of the Mod Lite division will expand the competition throughout the remainder of the 2016 season. The Mod Lite cars, piloted by drivers like Winston-Salem, NC's Scott Hall, will help grow the starting fields and will see the winner recognized in Victory Lane ceremonies and also receive recognition for the fastest qualifying lap in their respective division.
"I'm excited to get back to racing in the Modified and with PASS and the Southern Modified Racing Series," says Hall. "Adding the Mod Lites division gives us a stepping stone to the Tour-Type Modifieds. I have heard great things about the series and am looking forward to our debut on Friday night at Tri-County."
A familiar face that will be making his return to the SMRS Tour this weekend at Tri-County Motor Speedway will be Bobby Measmer, Jr. Measmer returns following a popular and hard fought win at his hometown track, the Concord Speedway, which saw him take the checkered flag over Burt Myers and Ryan Preece.
"To be able to win at Concord was awesome, it was my first Modified win, plus getting to do it in front of my family and friends, made it that much more special," says Measmer. "Another thing that win has done is, not only let me, but our team know we can win and be a competitor week in and week out."
Now, still celebrating that Concord win and with local sponsor Crispy's Bar and Grill coming on board, Measmer and the Hughes Motorsports team return to the SMRS feeling confident that they can join John Smith and Jon McKennedy as a two-time winner this season with the series.
"Our expectations going into this Friday night's race at Tri-County is actually a little different," says Measmer. "We didn't plan at the beginning of the season to run this race, but with the awesome job that SMRS has done so far this year, we're going to run this race and test a few things hoping to learn something new and still at the same time compete for the win."
In addition to Hall and Measmer, SMRS points leader John Smith, Burt and Jason Myers, and Brandon Ward are all expected, along with Andy Jankowiak, Mike Norman, and more.
The Southern Modified Racing Series Presented By PASS, along with Mid-Atlantic Limited Late Models and Street Stocks, will hit the track this Friday night at Tri-County Motor Speedway, with practice starting at 4 PM, grandstands will open at 6 PM, qualifying at 7 PM, the on track Pit Party at 7:30 PM, and racing starting at 8 PM.
