Ils visiteront l'Autodrome Chaudière en 2015 avec la Série PASS







Comme mentionné dans le texte précédent, en 2015, l'Autodrome Chaudière sera de nouveau l'hôte de la Série PASS et ce à trois reprises pour 2015. Ces courses courues sur l'oval de Vallée Jonction sont inscrites au calendrier de la section nord. 

Le pilote de Québec, #80 Donald Theetge, a déjà confirmé lors d'un entretien qu'il serait de la première de la saison le 16 mai prochain. Ce pilote d'expérience qui a connu une saison 2014 quelque peu décevante voudra sans aucun doute montrer ce dont il est capable. Entouré de son équipe, il mettra tout en œuvre pour se mesurer aux meneurs et qui sait, monter sur les marches du podium. 

Quant à Éric St-Gelais, le pilote de Charlevoix a déjà débuté sa saison dans la division PASS National sur la piste d'Anderson Speedway le week-end dernier. C'est au 11erang qu'il a terminé ce programme. « J'ai une bonne équipesur qui je peux compter et cette saison, on veut évoluer et monter les positions » précise Éric St-Gelais. Il participera aux 10 programmes du Championnat PASS National et sera donc aussi parmi les pilotes présents le 16 mai prochain. Possédant aussi un véhicule LMS, c'est l'étendue du calendrier et la performance de la voiture PASS qui l'ontfait opter pour cette Série.

Le champion 2014 de la série ACT Québec, Alex Labbédéfendra son titre pour la saison 2015 mais affirme qu'il tentera de participer aux deux derniers programmes avec sa voiture PASS. «C'est certain que ma voiture PASS est la voiture la plus performante que je pilote durant ma saison tant du côté puissance que pour la tenue de route donc tousles temps de réaction sont accélérés et c'est ce qui la rend si excitante à conduire » affirme Alex Labbé.  Le pilote originaire des Bois-Francs peut donc mettre à profit une de ces principales forces ; la gestion de la course. « Avec une voiture Super Late de 600 chevaux, tu dois vraiment économiser ta machine au maximum pour être en mesure d'être compétitif dans le dernier sprint de la course ! » souligne Alex.

Si on se fie aux dires de ces pilotes, le premier programme de la saison présenté à l'Autodrome Chaudière sera nous en mettre pleins la vue avec toute la puissance des voitures PASS et la qualité de pilotage requise pour maitriser ces voitures!

Vous avez bien lu, la série REVSTAR a décidé de suivre les traces des États-Unis et de retirer le fameux «Wing» qu'on retrouvait sur les voitures. Plusieurs raisons ont mené les dirigeants de la série à prendre cette décision en ayant tout d'abord en tête de réduire les dépenses des pilotes. On ne peut se cacher que le «Wing» était souvent une des pièces qui se devait d'être remplacé lors d'accidents en piste.


Bien que réduire les coûts soit toujours une priorité chez REVSTAR, ce n'est pas la seule raison derrière ce changement. Les mordus de courses dans les estrades sont l'ultime raison qui pousse cette série à s'améliorer et se réinventer d'année en année. Le retrait du «Wing» viendra sans aucun doute ajouter du piquant au spectacle et plaire aux nombreux amateurs. 

Les pilotes devront travailler sur de nouveaux ajustements ce qui fait repartir tout le monde sur une nouvelle base égale. Beaucoup de luttes et dépassements à prévoir en 2015, alors que les voitures auront beaucoup moins de traction dans les courbes qu'auparavant, donc place aux fameux «slide-job» qui sont si populaire dans le monde des Midgets.


Qui parviendra à s'adapter le plus rapidement ? Quels pilotes réussiront à tirer leur épingle du jeu ? La réponse à ces questions le 16 mai, lors du programme d'ouverture de la série REVSTAR au RPM Speedway.

CHARLOTTE, NC (March 24) – Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model points leader Zane Smith is brimming with confidence as he looks forward to his first experience in the Easter Bunny 150 coming up on Saturday, April 4th at Hickory Motor Speedway.  With only seven starts under his belt dating back to last season, Smith has had a superb beginning to the 2015 season.  The Huntington Beach, CA native finished third in his first ever trip to Dillon Motor Speedway and was runner-up to 3-time PASS National Champion, Ben Rowe, in a photo finish last weekend in the Peach Blossom Special at Anderson Motor Speedway.  Based on his early season success, Smith believes he has a legitimate shot at capturing his first career PASS South win on one of the biggest stages of them all, the 10th Annual Easter Bunny 150.

            "I think we'll be good, basically every race we go to with Gary Crooks we have a great car and I'm not worried about it all," said Smith, driver of the Pro-Am Racing Products #77 Chevrolet.  "I think we'll run up front, the car handles great every single weekend and I don't think it will be any different at Hickory.  I'm definitely looking forward to it."

            The Easter Bunny 150 has become one of the premier events in short track racing and has a prestigious lineage of former winners that includes Mike and Ben Rowe, Preston Peltier, and DJ Shaw.  Smith has already proven that he can go toe-to-toe with the best the sport has to offer after his side-by-side duel over the last few laps with Ben Rowe at Anderson.  Although he only finished 19th in his single start at Hickory in last year's Over The Mountain 150, Smith believes the time is right for a rookie to go to victory lane in the Easter Bunny.

            "It would be pretty huge for me and I have a feeling that we honestly can win it," says Smith.  "There's going to be a good field of cars there so it's important for us to get a good starting spot.  Then, it's just going to be who can save the most and have the most car left at the end."

Early entries continue to come in for the 10th Annual Easter Bunny 150.  Joining Smith, will be fellow PASS South championship hopefuls Jody Measamer, Tate Fogleman, and Jimmy Doyle.  A strong Northern flavor will be present as always led by former Easter Bunny 150 winners Mike and Ben Rowe, along with Joey Doiron and Quebec's Eric St. Gelais.  Trevor Noles returns and will be seeking his first Easter Bunny 150 win as well as Texas newcomer Derek Scott, Jr.

For the first time ever, the Easter Bunny 150 weekend will expand to two days, beginning on Friday afternoon, April 3 with practice for the PASS Super Late Models, Must See Racing Sprint Cars and support divisions and will be followed by twin 25 lap qualifying races for the Must See Racing Sprint Cars and features for the PASS Pro Late Models and Legends cars.  Then, on Saturday, April 4, the PASS Super Late Models will compete in the 10th Annual Easter Bunny 150 along with the 40 lap "Southern Showdown" for the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Cars and features for the USAC HPD Eastern Midgets, PASS Pro Late Models, and Legends.  

Also, look for more details to be released in the coming days on an Easter Bunny 150 Welcome Party featuring food, fun, show cars and autographs on Thursday, April 2 at Iron Thunder Saloon and Grill in Hickory.

Every calendar in Mike Beyore's world has just one month. After another long, cold Canadian winter, the second generation racer known as "The Whitby Warrior" only cares about the month of May. It's when he has to have his #54 machine ready to tackle the grueling OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Model schedule for another season.

 

After logging a 6th place finish in last year's final standings, Beyore and his crew went to work just days after the final checkered flag to work toward a strong run in 2015. No strangers to a hard effort and long hours in the shop, the team is looking forward to kicking-off the new campaign, but they know it's time to just do the jobs as they come along to make sure their driver can find his way to the front of a highly competitive pack.

 

"I've never really understood why they call this the off season," confessed a smiling Mike Beyore. "We usually have more going on at this time of year than we do once we start racing. I look forward to having everyone around the shop, working on the car and getting our hands dirty. It's an excellent bonding experience."

 

Beyore says that the biggest item he and the crew have on their pre-season checklist is putting the car back together. Just after the last campaign ended, everything was stripped-down to basic frame and cage. Suspension components were examined and the welds were checked for structural integrity. Around the end of January, new body work was added and now, with the year's first on-track activity just over a month down the road, it's time for some last minute lipstick and mascara.

 

"I won't be exactly sure what the final product will look like until we roll off the trailer, but based on some of the early sketches I've seen, I think we'll have a winner," said Beyore. "Norm Mayhew at Mayhew Graphics has done some great work for us over the years and I know he won't let us down."

 

With an immediate focus on one 31 day period, Mike Beyore is looking forward to strapping into the racecar. The first on-track action of the year takes place with a practice session Sunday, May 3rd at Sunset Speedway. The same venue will host Super Late Model qualifying Saturday, May 16th and a 50 lap 'A' main the following day. Saturday, May 30th – with a rain date of Sunday, May 31st – the focus will shift to Flamboro Speedway for another headline dance for the Outlaw teams.

 

Mike's brother Max – who finished 2nd in the 2014 OSCAAR Modified standings and earned the division's Rookie of the Year Award – will run 30 lap feature events on the 16th at Sunset and the 30th at Flamboro.

EARL BALTES FUNERAL INFORMATION

 

ROSSBURG, Ohio (March 23, 2015) – Earl Baltes, the founder and longtime promoter of Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, passed away this morning at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio. He was 93.

 

The family will receive friends from 2-8 pm (EDT) on Friday, March 27 at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, 1000 N. Broadway St., in Greenville, Ohio.

 

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am, on Saturday, March 28 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Burkettsville, Ohio.  Father Tom Hemm will lead the celebration. Baltes, who was a United States Army Solider during World War II, will be buried with full military honors in the St. Bernard Catholic Church Cemetery following mass.

 

In lieu of flowers, the Baltes family requests that memorial contributions be given to the American Heart Association.

032315_BaltesCONCORD, N.C. – March 23, 2015 – The World of Outlaws and DIRTcar Racing are saddened to learn today of Earl Baltes' passing. Earl grew Eldora Speedway out of the fields of western Ohio into one of racing's premier venues. He took a chance on Ted Johnson and the World of Outlaws in its inaugural 1978 season and the sprint car series has returned to Eldora every year since, helping it to become the premier dirt racing series in the world.

A master showman and promoter, Earl first built Eldora into a legendary speedway and then added high-paying crown jewel events for sprint cars and dirt late models alike to draw the sport's superstars. Fans flocked, and continue to do so today.

Earl also made a home for DIRTcar UMP racing from its inception. It's championship Fall Nationals for UMP Modifieds and Late Models remains one of the track's biggest weekends each fall.

Above all, Earl's passion for entertaining fans, treating competitors right, and putting on a show for everybody involved helped to spur an entire generation of future promoters. Us included. He will be missed. Our hearts go out to Berneice and the entire Baltes family.

Stock car show marks unofficial opening for Rutland County racing season

RUTLAND, VT – The stock car racing season opens – at least unofficially – on March 28-29 at the Diamond Run Mall in Rutland, VT. Devil's Bowl Speedway and some of its competitors will take part in the 14th annual Rutland Regional Racecar Show to bring the curtain up on the new year.

The Rutland Regional Racecar Show gives race fans an opportunity to see a variety of freshly prepared racecars and equipment up close, and to meet and speak with drivers from around the region.  In addition to being one of the area's leading shopping centers offering an array of national stores and brands, the Diamond Run Mall's racing show is an annual fundraiser for the March of Dimes and March for Babies charities.

Several of the machines expected for the Rutland Regional Racecar Show are regular competitors at Devil's Bowl Speedway, either in the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series on the 1/2-mile asphalt oval, or in the Optical Expressions of Berlin Dirt Track Series on the new 3/10-mile clay oval.  Cars expected at the show include open-wheel asphalt Modified racers driven by Jason Durgan, Cody Sargen, and rookie Bob Kilburn, and the dirt Modifieds of Johnny Scarborough and Chris Murray.  Also expected are Kevin Loomis, the father-son team of Scott and Andrew FitzGerald, and others.

"This show is always a great way to kick off the year," Devil's Bowl Speedway Media Director Justin St. Louis said.  "This winter has been a tough one for sure, and seeing the racecars all shined up and ready to go means that summer is coming fast and we'll be racing in no time."

The Rutland Regional Racecar Show will be open during mall business hours on Saturday, March 28 from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and onSunday, March 29 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Admission is free, though visitors are encouraged to make a donation to March for Babies.  The Diamond Run Mall is conveniently located at the intersection of U.S. Route 4 and U.S. Route 7 in Rutland, VT.

Waterbury, VT – The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) will compete in three 150-lap events on three completely different tracks in all three northern New England states to open the 2015 season. The New Hampshire Governor's Cup 150, set for Sunday, April 12, is the traditional opening event for ACT teams held yearly at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH. Teams will then travel to Oxford Plains Speedway (OPS) in Oxford, ME a week later, followed by their annual visit to Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT.

 

The fast Lee 3/8th-mile oval might statistically favor multi-time Lee champion and two-time ACT champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr., but he has tried eight times to date with a best finish of second in last year's event, and is long overdue for a win. There is also favorite Eddie MacDonald, who is on a roll with five consecutive wins in recent outings, going back to the Thunder Road Milk Bowl last October. McDonald captured the NH Governor's Cup last year in his ninth try at his home track. Defending 2014 ACT Champion Joey Polewarczk, Jr. (Pole) is also considered a favorite, but his only win at Lee USA came in a 100-lap opening race back in 2008.

 

"Well, I have seen them all, and I think it is the most difficult race to make predictions on," said Tom Curley, President of the American-Canadian Tour. "I think of the win by Jimmy Hebert two years ago, from starting last to the upset win, which established this young team as second-year title contenders. The constant opening event surprises every year. Last year Ben Ashline, after a two-year absence, came back with a solid top-ten effort. It's what makes the NH Governor's Cup so much fun for both teams and fans. It's only one race, but it can give a huge boost to the start of the season for any of the top 20 or 25 teams."

 

The present field of teams that make up the ACT U.S. touring series is deep with experienced veterans such as Jeff White, J.R. Robinson, Travis Stearns, and Brad Babb from Maine. Aaron Fellows, Luke Hinkley, and Todd Davis from New Hampshire have won numerous races during their Late Model careers. New young talents such as ACT 2014 Rookie of the Year Brandon Atkins, Emily Packard, and Kyle Welch all have another year of experience, and they are poised to have breakout seasons. There is also the presence of Ray Parent, who led a race-high 117 laps in last year's NH Governor's Cup, and Stephane Descoste, who finished a surprising fifth. Both drivers went on to strong 2014 seasons and will similarly look to use Lee USA as a springboard to their 2015 campaigns.

 

Many will leave the Lee opener looking forward to the ACT/PASS (Pro All Star Series) doubleheader to be held at the OPS on Saturday, April 18. The tricky 3/8th-mile oval will offer a home track advantage to the Maine teams. The excitement of the first ever doubleheader with the two sanctioning bodies will make the Oxford event one of the most popular stops for Late Model fans during the beginning of the season. Other drivers that have OPS circled for the 2015 season include Eddie MacDonald and Joey Pole. MacDonald has three OPS wins and Pole has two to his credit. MacDonald won the Oxford 250 in both 2009 and 2010, while Pole captured the historic event in 2012. Wayne Helliwell, Jr., along with several other teams, is expected to race in both halves of the doubleheader. A Quebec contingent, led by 2014 Serié ACT Champion Alex Labbe of Ste Albert, QC, is also expected to join the list of entrants at the OPS opening event.

 

The tri-race schedule takes a major U-turn to Vermont and the high banks of Thunder Road for the 17th annual Merchant's Bank 150 on Sunday, May 3. The ¼-mile track offers a major challenge to ACT touring teams, as Thunder Road weekly Late Models always seem to have a home track advantage. A field loaded with former track champions such as Derrick O'Donnell, Nick Sweet, David Pembroke, Phil Scott, and Dave Whitcomb, along with new rising stars Cody Blake, Eric Badore, Jason Corliss, Brooks Clark, and Shawn Fleury, will add depth to the competition for the touring regulars.

 

"I really enjoy the challenge of having the Tour teams at Thunder Road," said Nick Sweet, two-time Thunder Road Champion and two-time winner of the Merchant's Bank 150. "It helps neutralize the regular competition we face all season. I like our weekly team's chances in a race at T-Road. When Joey (Pole), Helliwell, Hebert, Parent and all the other ACT teams show up, there is a certain home track pride that kind of enters the equation. I like to think that we Thunder Road regulars can hold our own."

 

The 2015 ACT season will open over a three-week period at Lee USA on Sunday, April 12 with the NH Governor's Cup 150. Oxford Plains Speedway will host the first ever doubleheader 150-lap events for the Late Models of ACT and the Super Late Models of PASS on Saturday, April 18, and Thunder Road Int'l Speedbowl will present the Merchant's Bank 150 on Sunday, May 3.

Spring has finally arrived and another season of motorsports action is about to hit the track in Central Ontario. The drivers and teams of the INEX Ontario Legends Series are looking forward to a 12 race schedule, with events at Peterborough and Sunset Speedways.

 

With at least 30 different drivers scoring points on the tour in 2014, the new campaign looks to be another competitive schedule. Two time and defending series champion Nicholas Ledson will face some stiff opposition in his quest for a 3rd consecutive title. Series operator and Legends dealer Paul Yarrow of Brighton, Ontario – himself a former series champ – says it will be an exciting year.

 

"We have a broad spectrum of racers in our fields on a regular basis," said Yarrow. "There are rookies that have never raced before and veteran campaigners who've been with us for years and have found the Legends Series to be very affordable, competitive and most of all, fun."

 

Starting with the season opener – Saturday, May 16th at Peterborough Speedway – the INEX Ontario Legends Series will expand their public profile in 2015, utilizing the services of Clarke Motorsports Communications to prepare and distribute event reports and press releases on behalf of the series to local and regional print and electronic media sources. Reports will also be featured on the series web-site, www.ontariolegends.com. 

 

"It's one of the elements we've been missing over the years," said Yarrow. "We've always had the results posted on our site, but now the fans, drivers, teams and sponsors will be able to find the story behind what happens on the track, with a post-race report and photos from each show."

Ben Rowe Snaps Dry Spell With Peach Blossom Special Win At Anderson

WILLIAMSTON, SC (March 21) – 3-time Pro All Stars Series (PASS) National Champion Ben Rowe began his title defense in style with a thrilling win in Saturday night's Peach Blossom Special for the PASS South Super Late Models at Anderson Motor Speedway.  Rowe held off rookies Zane Smith and Jared Fryar to snap a winless streak dating back to November, 2013 when he won the North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway.

            "It was cat-and-mouse the whole race and on the restart I got out in front, I was just trying to keep the 77 [Smith] 2-3 car lengths behind," said Rowe, after his 9th career PASS South Super Late Model win.  "We stayed here till 8:30 last night working on a skip we had in the engine and I can't thank my guys enough.  It took me by surprise when [Smith] got up on the outside, but it's tough.  These kids are pretty fun to race with and coming to the checkers like that was pretty cool."

            Jared Irvan paced the field in qualifying with a lap of 88.074 miles per hour to capture his third career quick qualifying time.  After the top 10 qualifiers redraw, Irvan and second fasted qualifier Jody Measamer swapped spots to lead the field to green for the 125 lapper.

            Measamer took the initial lead, but was overtaken by Lucas Jones and Irvan in a three wide move on lap three.  It was quickly evident that Measamer and Irvan were going to employ a conservative strategy, dropping all the way to the rear of the field by lap 35.  While they were in conservation mode, ninth place starter Lee Hansard was on a charge, taking the lead from Jones on lap 37.  Local favorite Eric Stokes and Rowe rode in second and third behind Hansard until Stokes lost a motor entering turn 1 on lap 78 to bring out the race's first caution.

            On the restart, Hansard struggled to come up to speed, handing the lead to Rowe, as he dropped back to the eighth position.  At this point, Measamer and Irvan were ready to make their move with Measamer moving into the top 10 on lap 83 and Irvan following on lap 92.  But, Irvan's progress would be halted when he had to stop on the racetrack with 10 laps to go due to a broken wheel.

            Rowe continued to lead following the restart but was now followed by Jimmy Doyle in second and Measamer, who had made his way up to third.  While racing hard for second with three laps to go, Measamer made slight contact with Doyle exiting turn four.  Doyle spun across the track collecting Measamer and ending any real hopes the two veterans had for victory.

            Rowe and Smith ran side-by-side over the course of the final two laps with Jared Fryar following closely behind in turn four.  As the leaders came charging to the checkered flag, Rowe held a slight advantage over Smith, and a peeking Fryar to the inside, for the win.  Hansard capped off his best day in PASS racing with a fourth place finish and Tate Fogleman finished fifth.  Rounding out the top ten were Joey Doiron, Jones, Irvan, Matt Craig, and Doyle.

            Rookie Chandler Smith took advantage of problems for the leaders late to take his first career PASS Pro Late Model win in only his second start.  Smith led the first 35 laps before a bump from Zachary Dabbs sent him sliding up the track and out of the top spot.  But, just two laps later, Matt Murphy moved by Dabbs to take the lead.  With six laps to go, Dabbs spun exiting turn two after contact with Kodie Conner.  On the restart, Murphy spun his tires down the front straightaway eventually spinning in turn two.  Smith reassumed the lead and held on for the win.  Murphy bounced back to finish second over Ontario's JP Josiasse, Logan Jones, and Dabbs.

            Chris Lamb rocketed from his fourth starting position to take a dominant win in the USAC Eastern Midgets over Jake Nelke, Jessica Bean, Scott Hunter, and Andrew Layser.

            Justin Ashley prevailed in a hard fought battle for the Legends win over Ryan Millington and Randy Gunter.  Brian King was the Front Wheel Driver winner.

The PASS South Super Late Models will be in action again in the second PASS National Championship Series event of the season April 3-4 at Hickory Motor Speedway for the 10th Annual Easter Bunny 150.  The Must Racing Racing Winged Sprint Cars will make their first trip to Hickory for their "Southern Showdown.
