TORONTO, ON - July 12, 2019 - One of Canada's leading NASCAR Pinty's Series teams, 22 Racing is proud to announce a new technology partnership with WorldCAST by KP9 Interactive to lead the way in bringing a new level of experiences to Canadian race fans using augmented reality (AR).  

The new FREE 22 Racing App is powered by WorldCAST, which is being officially launched this weekend at the Honda Indy Toronto, in advance of Saturday's Pinty's Grand Prix held at Exhibition Place on July 13th. 

This partnership with WorldCAST helps 22 Racing deliver interactive AR experiences to race fans in part through WorldCAST's powerful AR Suite of software products including PrintCAST. The creation of the experiences called "casts" – can be for fun and for team sponsors looking to unlock a new level of interaction with NASCAR Pinty's Series fans.

Grâce à la collaboration de la Ville de Trois-Rivières et d'autre organisateurs d'événements tels que la Corporation des événements de Trois-Rivières, Adrénaline Urbaine et Festi-Drag.TV, les Trifluviens et ceux qui les visiteront lors de deux premiers week-ends d'août pourront profiter de partys gratuits offrant spectacles musicaux, démonstrations et initiation de sports urbains ainsi que retrouvailles tant sur le site du GP3R qu'au centre-ville de Trois-Rivières. 


Le populaire groupe Bleu Jeans Bleu, en tournée avec son album Perfecto et ses succès viraux Coton Ouaté et J'ai mangé trop de patates frites, sera de passage en prélude à La Magie des Feux GP3R présentée par la Ville de Trois-Rivières le 10 août prochain. Le leader du groupe Mathieu Lafontaine, alias Claude Cobra, aura ainsi la chance de faire sa marque au Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières autrement que comme son père Marcel, promoteur de la série F1600 Canada, et de son frère Hugo, qui a participé au GP3R en F1600. 


La veille, lors de la traditionnelle journée portes ouvertes du vendredi NASCAR, un immense party rockabilly au bord de la piscine de l'expo nous fera faire un voyage dans le temps avec Manny Jr. et ses Cyclones accompagnés de l'endiablé Israël Proulx au piano. L'occasion servira de prétexte pour des retrouvailles de la FIlière Player's avec les ex-membres Alex Tagliani, Jean-François Dumoulin, Marc-Antoine Camirand, Bertrand Godin et même Claude Bourbonnais - qui sera au départ des épreuve de Formule Atlantique Historique - qui ont tous confirmé leur présence. 


Planche nautique dans la piscine de l'expo

Avec la collaboration d'Adrénaline Urbaine, l'organisateur du Défi-Hors-Piste, le GP3R se servira aussi de la piscine de l'expo pour faire un retour vers le futur. Théâtre de spectacles de ski nautique dans les années 1970 avec Pierre Plouffe et les Aqua Stars, la piscine du parc de l'exposition sera reprise d'assaut par des athlètes qui, ère du temps oblige, rivaliseront d'habileté sur des planches nautiques tirées par un système de treuil Konex à la fine pointe de la technologie. Adrénaline Urbaine gardera même le système en place tout au long du week-end pour initier les planchistes en manque de sensations fortes. 


D'ailleurs, toute l'enceinte de la piscine de l'expo prendra des airs d'il y a 50 ans avez la Zone Exposition internationale d'autos de Lévis où une vingtaine de  camionnettes vintage seront exposées dans un décor qui rappelleront la belle époque où NASCAR organisait ses courses directement sur la plage de Daytona Beach. Les camionnettes seront aussi utilisées pour la présentation des pilotes de la série NASCAR Pinty's, en prélude aux 50 Tours Hotel le Concorde du dimanche 11 août. 


La Ville de Trois-Rivières participe aux célébrations

Ces célébrations du 50e ainsi que le retour de la grande roue sur la rue des Forges, la venue des camionnettes McGregor OffRoad, la création d'une mascotte pour le GP3R et la première phase de l'initiative écologique GP3Vert ont toutes été rendues possibles grâce, en partie, à une contribution spéciale 50e anniversaire/GP3R de la Ville de Trois-Rivières. 


Bien entendu, le premier week-end d'activités du GP3R ne sera pas en reste. Ainsi, les voitures des championnats du monde et des Amériques de rallycross ainsi que les motos et les quads paraderont encore jusqu'au centre-ville le vendredi 3 août avant une séance d'autographe des pilotes, une démonstration des pilotes de drift du DMCC et un spectacle du groupe The Schooners. Le lendemain, c'est le Johnny Gélinas Band qui animera le parc portuaire. Pour les amateurs de belles mécaniques, le Meet-Up revient sur la rue Papineau avec des bolides modifiés, neufs et exotiques à faire rêver, les 3 et 4 août. Également, Harley-Davidson sera sur place avec ses nouvelles motos de la gamme Softail afin de permettre aux amateurs d'effectuer des essais sur route, à partir du coin Papineau et Des Forges. L'accès au MeetUp et à l'Expérience Softail est gratuit.


L'autre parade, le 8 août, mettra en vedette les bolides de la Coupe Nissan Micra, où MIchel Barrette et son fils Nicolas piloteront. Les camions des équipes de la série NASCAR Pinty's seront aussi du rendez-vous avec les pilotes Pinty's comme Marc-Antoine Camirand, les frères Dumoulin et Alex Labbé qui rencontreront les amateurs au parc portuaire le 8 août au soir. La portion musicale de la soirée sera assurée par RoadRock. Le lendemain 9 août, c'est Time Krash qui sera sur scène tandis que le samedi 10 août, soir de la Magie des Feux, Bobbey T. and the Jukebox et Domino accompagneront Bleu Jeans Bleu.

TORONTO, Ontario – L'année dernière, Alex Tagliani avait raté la victoire de peu.

 

En 2018, après avoir mené 34 des 35 tours prévus, Tagliani s'est fait doubler par Andrew Ranger, vainqueur de la course en prolongation, un résultat des plus frustrants pour Tagliani. Cette année, Tagliani est arrivé à Toronto avec un seul objectif en tête : la victoire.

 

Tagliani, qui a remporté le prix E3 Spark Plugs Pole Award, a été mis au défi dans une bataille acharnée de nouveau contre Andrew Ranger en plus de devoir se battre également avec son coéquipier, Marc-Antoine Camirand. Avec deux relances tardives et une fin de course en prolongation, Tagliani a pris sa revanche contre le mauvais sort de 2018 en raflant la victoire du Grand Prix Pinty de Toronto..

 

La Chevrolet N°18 RONA/EpiPen de Tagliani a perdu son avantage sur Marc-Antoine Camirand lors d'une relance en fin de course, mais Camirand a ensuite cédé la tête de la course a Tagliani lors d'une sortie de route qui a provoqué la dernière relance de la course contrôlée par Tagliani devant un Ranger déchaîné, suivi de LP Dumoulin.

 

En somme, le pilote de 45 ans de Lachanaie (Québec),a repoussé tous les aspirants à la victoire sur 34 des 37 tours complétés pour remporter sa neuvième victoire en carrière dans la série NASCAR Pinty's, dont sa deuxième dans les rues de Toronto.

 

« Après le dénouement de la course de l'année dernière, nous étions restés sur notre faim, nous devions terminer ce qui avait été commencé », a déclaré Tagliani. « C'était une course palpitante, une excellente qualification. Nous avons accumulé un maximum de points lors du week-end, ce qui est bon pour l'équipe. Il semble que cette piste nous porte chance et, comme l'an dernier, c'est un tournant important pour la course au championnat. J'espère que la saison en apportera d'autres. »

 

Ranger, qui s'est présenté avec un point de retard sur Kevin Lacroix au classement général a repris l'avantage sur Tagliani près de la mi-course. Lors de la reprise finale, Ranger a fait tout ce qu'il a pu pour doubler la voiture No 18, mais a dû se contenter de la deuxième place, s'emparant ainsi la tête des points au classement des pilotes.

 

« Au départ, ma voiture était très rapide et nous avons mené quelques tours, » mentionne Ranger. « À la dernière relance, je suis resté avec Alex. Vert, blanc, damiers, même scénario que l'an dernier. J'ai tenté un dépassement vers l'intérieur, mais ça n'a pas fonctionné. Je ne voulais pas pousser trop fort et risquer d'endommager la voiture. »

 

Pour sa part, LP. Dumoulin a défendu sa position pendant les trois derniers tours de piste en prolongation et a terminé en troisième position, son premier podium de la saison.. 

 

Lacroix a ramené en quatrième position sa Dodge No 74 Bumper to Bumper un peu amochée après une course endiablée. Suivi de J.F. Dumoulin qui a livré une course sans faute et croisé le fil d'arrivée en cinquième place. 

 

Anthony Simone a terminé sixième et Peter Klutt en septième place. Jason Hathaway, D.J. Kennington et Jason White ont complété le top dix.

 

Après le Grand Prix Pinty's de Toronto, Ranger creuse un léger écart de deux points sur Lacroix. Avec cette victoire, Tagliani reste en troisième place, à 14 points du meneur au classement des pilotes, Andrew Ranger.

 

Le Grand Prix Pinty's de Toronto sera diffusé sur TSN le 21 juillet à 13 h 30 et sur RDS2 le 30 juillet à 22 h.

 

La prochaine sortie de la série NASCAR Pinty's Series, le « Western Swing » annuel, retrouvera les équipes au « Velocity Prairie Thunder Twin 125 » sur le circuit du Wyant Group Raceway le 24 juillet, puis au Edmonton International Raceway le 27 juillet pour le LUXXUR 300.

Alex Tagliani Wins in Dramatic Fashion at Toronto

 

TORONTO, Ont --  One year ago Alex Tagliani was in position to win.

 

After leading all 35 regulation laps, Tagliani was passed in a heartbreaking NASCAR Overtime finish by eventual winner Andrew Ranger. Flash forward to 2019, and Tagliani came to Toronto with one goal in mind – redemption. 

 

Tagliani, who won the E3 Spark Plugs Pole Award, was challenged by stiff competition all race by Ranger and teammate Marc-Antoine Camirand. With two late race restarts and a NASCAR Overtime finish, Tagliani redeemed himself by scoring the victory in this year's Pinty's Grand Prix of Toronto.

 

Tagliani's No.18 RONA/EpiPen Chevrolet lost the lead to Camirand in a late restart, however Camirand gave the lead back after a late crash set up NASCAR Overtime. Tagliani was able to sneak by the wreck and hold off a bloodthirsty Ranger, Kevin Lacroix and LP Dumoulin. 

 

In the end, the 45-year-old driver from Lachanaie, Quebec was able to hold off all who opposed leading 34 of 37 laps to claim his ninth career NASCAR Pinty's Series victory and second on the streets of Toronto.

 

Ranger, who came into the weekend one point behind Kevin Lacroix in the standings, managed to steal the lead from Tagliani near the halfway point. On the final restart Ranger did all he could to get around the No.18, Ranger would ultimately settle for second grabbing the points lead from Lacroix.

 

L.P Dumoulin used the overtime restart to his advantage, surging to his first podium finish of the season, and second at Toronto.

 

Lacroix brought his battered and bruised Bumper to Bumper Dodge home in fourth. He was followed by J.F Dumoulin, who completed the top five finishers.

 

Anthony Simone was sixth and Peter Klutt following behind in seventh. Jason Hathaway, D.J Kennington and Jason White rounded out the top ten.

 

The Pinty's Grand Prix of Toronto will air on TSN July 21 at 1:30 p.m. and on RDS2 July 30 at 10 p.m.

 

The NASCAR Pinty's Series next embarks on their annual Western Swing. The Velocity Prairie Thunder Twin 125s at Wyant Group Raceway will be July 24, followed by the LUXXUR 300 at Edmonton International Raceway July 27.

Mat Williamson Goes Back-to-Back in DIRTcar 358 Modified Series Action

AKWESASNE, NY – July 15, 2019 – Mat Williamson, from St. Catherines, Ontario, has won three out of four DIRTcar 358 Modified Series races and two back-to-back. His unbelievable run continued at Mohawk Int'l Raceway as the No. 6 358 Modified parked in Victory Lane four times in four days in DIRTcar competition. 'Machine Gun' Billy Dunn was running Williamson down but ran out of laps and settled for second place. Star driver Erick Rudolph missed the podium by a bumper last night but the No. 25R stayed ahead of fourth-place Tim Fuller on this occasion. 

Mat Williamson padded his DIRTcar 358 Modified Series points lead with a show of force at the top of the field. It's a mighty feat no matter what the circumstances but given this is one of the most competitive groups of 358 Modifieds on the tour in years, it's especially impressive. 

Williamson explains his good fortune, "We are certainly rolling. My car owners make it easy for me to go and race one hundred-something times a year and not wear our guys out. It's pretty cool. It's nice to win in multiple cars at multiple race tracks. It seems like right now we've got a good car on restarts and short runs. The cautions can help in these races."

It was a caution that gave Williamson the chance to jump then-leader Erick Rudolph and the No. 6 motored away to the lead. 

In the previous night's race at Cornwall lapped traffic almost cost Williamson the win but at Mohawk the No. 6 car was able to cut through the backmarkers. 

"We could maneuver. I could get through lapped traffic pretty easily. It was kind of nice. Erick [Rudolph] seemed really good in the beginning but faded. We needed a caution to get rolling," said Williamson. 

Billy Dunn advanced eleven positions and fell just short of making a run at Williamson for the lead. 

Dunn described the race, "I'll take second any day starting from twelfth. It was really tough to pass. I don't know if I had anything for Mat [Williamson] or not but I certainly would have liked the chance. I thought I used my stuff up a little bit getting to the front. As soon as I got there I knew that was about as good as I was gonna get. I would have liked a late caution but we'll take second for sure." 

Erick  Rudolph is one of the best drivers there is behind the wheel of a DIRTcar 358 Modified but these Series races have brought out the best in everyone who attends making them incredibly competitive and fun to watch. Only four cautions halted racing action in two days and 175 Feature laps. 

Rudolph was content with the finish and noted, "Third ain't bad with the competitors that are here. Any time you can end up on the podium at any of these races it's a good thing. We had the lead and it just slipped away from us. We were better on the longer runs and he [Williamson] was a little bit better on the short runs. Can't complain."

Sixth place finisher Mike Mahaney was very fast off the trailer. He took home the Billy Whittaker Cars Fast-Time Award worth $100 plus a special $150 bonus from Gauvreau Transportation. 

Dave Marcuccilli, who has been fast and consistent at all the Series races, is the recipient of the free Hoosier Racing Tire as he finished in the randomly selected position, ninth. 

Next up, the DIRTcar 358 Modified Series soars into Utica-Rome Speedway on Sunday, July 21.

Pour Kevin Lacroix, la saison 2019 a commencé comme il le voulait, avec un tiercé de top-deux lors des trois premières courses. Il est clair pour tous que Lacroix représente un défi que tous les autres prétendants au titre 2019 retrouveront sur leur chemin et devront surmonter.

 

L'ex-pilote de Champ Car Atlantic a fait le saut en NASCAR en 2015, et connu un succès impressionnant dès ses débuts en remportant ses deux premières courses en Pinty's, au Circuit ICAR et au Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, passant ainsi immédiatement de vedette à temps partiel à prétendant crédible au titre de champion

« Après mes deux premières victoires en 2015, nous devions faire que quatre ou cinq courses par an, juste pour le plaisir. Les victoires ont changé tout ça bouleversé nos plans et nous sommes devenus beaucoup plus sérieux avec des attentes plus élevées et difficiles à atteindre, » de nous raconter le pilote de Saint-Eustache (Québec).

 

« Nous savons que nous pouvons gagner! »

 

Jusqu'à la saison dernière, Lacroix était surtout reconnu comme un spécialiste des tracés routiers. Lacroix a gagné sur tous les tracés routiers ou urbains visités par la série Pinty's, dont trois victoires d'affilée (2016-2017). L'expérience de Lacroix en monoplaces représente un atout important pour son apprentissage en série Pinty's.

 

« Les voitures NASCAR sont très rapides, et nous sommes toujours dans le coup sur les tracés routier ou urbain. Les monoplaces sont souvent plus rapides sur les circuits routiers, tirant avantage de leur légèreté. Les voitures Pinty's exigent des réactions toujours précises - aucune place à l'erreur dans les deux cas. C'est vraiment excitant de courir dans un centre-ville, » d'ajouter le pilote prêt pour la belle aventure.

 

Après le Chaudière 300, Lacroix dispose d'un petit point d'avance sur Andrew Ranger dans la course au titre. Alors que la tournée de trois courses dans l'Ouest s'amorce dans la foulée de Toronto, Lacroix aimerait bien y aller avec un coussin de points plus moelleux. Battre Ranger ! La barre est haute, car la Fusée de Roxton Pond possède le plus grand nombre de victoires dans les rues de Toronto.

 

« Cette année, nous sommes rapides, et la chance semble rester avec nous, » de conclure le pilote motivé au maximum.

Trois premiers aux points, trois podiums à Toronto

 

Pour les pilotes de la série NASCAR Pinty's, la tâche sera ardue à Toronto si votre nom n'est pas Ranger, Lacroix ou Tagliani. Les trois premiers en points ont également remporté les cinq courses disputées sur le célèbre circuit urbain, dont trois pour Ranger. Depuis le retour de la piste en 2016 après une pause de cinq saisons, ces trois pilotes ont dominé. En 2016, ils ont terminé 1-2-3 avec la victoire de Tagliani, en 2017 Lacroix a tiré son épingle du jeu après un accident en début de course entre Ranger et Tagliani. La saison dernière, Ranger et Tagliani se sont expliqués énergiquement après que Lacroix ait été mis à l'écart à la suite d'un contact, c'est Jean-François Dumoulin qui est monté sur la troisième marche du podium. 

 

Pinty's GP Épisode VI : Le trio de tête à Toronto

 

De retour à la série cette semaine, plusieurs spécialistes de circuits tortueux reviennent s'amuser ce week-end. Legendary Motorsports revient avec son duo habituel, Peter et Gary Klutt, qui visent bien haut après leurs belles prestations au CTMP lors de l'ouverture de la saison en mai dernier. Jean-Frédéric Laberge et Jean-François Dumoulin reviennent prêts à se battre à bord de leurs machines préparées par Dumoulin Compétition lors de cette seconde course de leur programme routier de quatre courses cette saison. Enfin, David Thorndyke pilotera la voiture de Jim Bray. Cette nouvelle équipe pour le vétéran pilote réveillera-t-elle en lui ses instincts de vainqueur ?

Kevin Lacroix Chasing Maiden Championship

 

For Kevin Lacroix, 2019 has started about as good as possible. With top-two finishes in each of the first three races, it is clear Lacroix is cementing himself as a force to be reckoned with this season. 

 

The former Champ Car Atlantic driver switched to NASCAR in 2015, and unlike many in the paddock, Lacroix found success almost immediately. Winning two of this first four starts (ICAR , GP3R) changed Lacroix's focus from part-time star to championship contender.

 

"Since my first two wins in 2015, we were supposed to do only four or five races a year just for fun," said Lacroix. "And with these two races, we got much more serious, though, with higher expectations.

 

"We know we can win."

 

Until last season, Lacroix had been known for his stellar performances on road courses. He has won on every single active road course in the Pinty's Series, including an impressive three in a row at CTMP (2016-2017). Lacroix's open-wheel background has been a huge asset, however driving a street course in a Pinty's car is a totally new challenge.

 

"NASCAR cars are very fast, and we always run good on street courses or road courses," Lacroix said. "That's where we get a lot of experience. The open wheel cars are a little bit faster in the corners but they're much lighter. Going into it in a stock car makes it a little bit slower in terms of reflexes but still leaves no room for mistake."

 

The 2017 Toronto winner is excited to once again take to the streets this season.  Racing on a street circuit carved out of the streets of one of Canada's most picturesque cities is something Lacroix loves. Getting to experience cities like Toronto and Trois-Rivieres are just one of the many things that is attractive about racing on the streets.

 

"That's what I like, that's what I've been doing all my life from go-karting to NASCAR cars and any type of racetrack," Lacroix said. "Courses like CTMP, GP3R and Toronto that are very tight with the walls, and everything makes a little bit more challenging, and there's no room for mistakes. It's really exciting to have experiences downtown in these cities, it's a really great feeling, really nice to attend."

 

After Chaudiere, Lacroix took a one point lead over Andrew Ranger. With the looming Western swing on the horizon, Lacroix knows that Toronto is an opportunity to gain points on Ranger. A perilous feat when considered that Ranger has the most wins on the Streets of Toronto. 

 

"Knowing that it's a trend that we've been fast there in the past, not lucky last year there, but we were always pretty fast," Lacroix said. "I'm looking to extend my points lead. I want to concentrate a lot of road courses to make the most points I can go. We're going out West in the next week,  so I want to have the most points before and I'll be I think I'll be really thankful for the momentum."

Top Three in Points, Top Three in Toronto

 

For the NASCAR Pinty's Series drivers Toronto will be a tough place if your name isn't Ranger, Lacroix or Tagliani. The current top three in points have also won all five races run at the famed street circuit. Ranger leads the group with three wins. Since the track returned in 2016 after a five-season hiatus these three drivers have dominated. In 2016 they finished 1-2-3 with Tagliani winning, in 2017 Lacroix capitalized after an early race accident between Ranger and Tagliani took them out. Last season Ranger and Tagliani duked it out in NASCAR overtime after Lacroix had been sidelined after contact.

 

Pinty's GP Episode VI: Return of the Road Course Ringers

 

Returning to the Series this week will be a host of road course specialists. Legendary Motorsports will be back with their duo of cars; Peter and Gary Klutt will look for strong runs after setting the bar high back in May at CTMP. J.F Laberge and J.F Dumoulin will be back and ready to contend, as both Dumoulin Competition racers will be doing all four of the season's road courses. Finally, David Thorndyke will be running for Jim Bray this week, could the new team help inject a spark into the veteran driver.

Cette piste lui a souri par le passé, notamment en 2000 avec Richard Spénard, alors qu'ils avaient remporté la victoire après avoir doublé plus de 50 voitures (Série Motorola Cup, New Tech Motorsport, Porsche 993). L'an dernier, le Québécois s'est faufilé de la huitième position jusqu'au podium, offrant aux spectateurs une fin de course des plus enlevantes. Jean-François Dumoulin, qui apprécie particulièrement les circuits qui exigent un pilotage physique, est sans contredit un pilote à surveiller ce week-end.
 
Il s'agira de la quatrième visite sur le circuit urbain de Toronto pour Jean-François Dumoulin en série NASCAR Pinty's. « La piste est bosselée, les zones de freinage sont à surveiller et nous devrons attaquer les virages, très serré avec insistance.
