Peterborough Speedway Regulars Run Strong at the Canadian Short Track Nationals

2019's regular season at Peterborough Speedway saw its final checkered flag at the Championship Clash Saturday, August 31^st. The very next day, several of the track's KOD Disposal Super Stock teams made the tow to the 2^nd running of the Canadian Short Track Nationals at Jukasa Motor Speedway. In a field of close to 50 entries, the Saturday night favourites from the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road did their best to put their home track on the motorsports map.

After recording a 3^rd place finish in the last feature event of the year and winding-up 4^th in the final overall point standings, 19-year-old Marlie Owen was the top local runner. The talented second generation speedster from Port Hope, Ontario turned her start in the prestigious event into a very respectable 13^th place showing. The young lady with the heavy right foot says she loved racing at Jukasa again.

"It was quite an adjustment going from the season finale at Peterborough on Saturday night to the much bigger track the very next day," Marlie Owen said. "It isn't just faster, but a completely different driving style than what I'm used to. We had to search around a little and learn the lines along with some different acceleration and braking points. I'm getting more confident in what the car will give me each time we go there."

Tyler Bouillon and Tim Burke were also able to crack the starting line-up; finishing 17^th and 18^th respectively. 2018 Super Stock champion Bailey Jacobs says he had a good first day speed-wise but during the feature got collected in someone else's issue and put into the wall. Jacobs was credited with a 26^th place finish. Newly crowned Super Stock title holder Mark Gordon was 29^th, former Autumn Colours Classic Pro Late Model champion Willie Reyns 30^th, Paul Boundy 39^th, Rob Richards 40^th and Donovan Price 45^th.

Bullring bullet points: Plans are currently underway for the 27^th annual running of the Autumn Colours Classic – presented by Lucas Oil Products and Pure Country 105 – at Peterborough Speedway. The track will hold an open practice session – Sunday, September 15^th – from 11:00 'til 4:00, while the 3-day racing extravaganza takes the green flag October 11^th, 12^th and 13^th at the venue known as Canada's Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval.

Quebec Doubleheader Part Deux!

It's back to Quebec for the Super DIRTcar Series at Autodrome Granby and Le RPM Speedway

Saint-Marcel-de-Richelieu, QUE – August 25, 2019 – The Super DIRTcar Series heads back north of the border to Quebec for the second swing of 2019. On Friday, September 6 the Series makes their second stop of the year at Autodrome Granby. Then, the next day the teams shuffle off to Le RPM Speedway, a high banked bullring. Don't want until next year to knock these two Quebec tracks off your bucket list.

Earlier this season the Series storms into Autodrome Granby and put on another memorable show. Despite a massive red flag incident early in the race, in which all drivers walked or drove away, the race was exciting. Matt Sheppard raced wheel-to-wheel with Australian Peter Britten for the win.

Billy Decker, from Franklynville, NY, put on a show in the last race at Granby. The Gypsum Racing No. 91 was caught up in the huge wreck last race. However, with the damage mostly cosmetic, the team in red got Decker back on the track and he was just getting started.

Incredibly Decker raced up to fifth place, which means he could very well be the favorite going into the September 5 $7,500-to-win 100 lapper.

The next day, Saturday, September 7, the teams pack up and head to Le RPM Speedway, a dicey bowl ring in the great French-Canadian hinterland. HBR's superb veteran driver Jimmy Phelps took the win last year. Can he go back-to-back?

From a go-kart track to hosting the premier Big Block Modified series in the Northeast and Canada, Le RPM Speedway has come a long way as a racing facility over the years.

This year the Series rolls into Le RPM to race for $7,500-to-win and $500-to-start. Will we see one of the Series rookies pick up their first win? Ryan Godown, Demetrios Drellos, and Jack Lehner have put together solid rookie seasons so far with the typical ups and downs of a first-year on the tour.

It'll be a tough road to the front though as they'll have to get through Larry Wight, Mike Mahaney, Danny Johnson, Rusty Smith, Paul St-Sauveur, Marcus Dinkins and more.

À son retour en NASCAR Pinty's après quatre ans d'absence, Scott Steckly termine onzième à l'Autodrome Saint-Eustache

Montréal, 8 septembre 2019 - Le vétéran pilote Scott Steckly est sorti de sa retraite après quatre années d'inactivité pour remplacer Alex Tagliani lors de la 11e étape de la série NASCAR Pinty's disputée dimanche sur l'ovale de quatre dixièmes de mille de l'Autodrome Saint-Eustache. L'unique quadruple champion de la série Pinty's et légendaire propriétaire de l'équipe 22 Racing, qui est également le préparateur de la voiture EpiPen/RONA/St-Hubert/Spectra Premium numéro 18 de Tagliani, s'est élancé de la 10e position dimanche à la suite de l'unique séance d'essais libres de samedi. Ces essais ont finalement déterminé la grille de départ car la pluie est venue contrecarrer les plans du promoteur qui a dû annuler la séance de qualification et la course de samedi soir reportée à dimanche.

En course, le pilote de Milverton en Ontario a maintenu sa Chevrolet EpiPen/RONA/St-Hubert/Spectra Premium dans le top 10 tout au long de la course, remontant jusqu'à la huitième position à quelques reprises, pour finalement terminer onzième. L'Ontarien Jason Hathaway a mené les 84 derniers passages de la course pour inscrire sa deuxième victoire de la saison au terme du Lucas Oil 250 devant Kevin Lacroix. Andrew Ranger, Alex Labbé, qui a mené le plus grand nombre de tours avec 123, et Donald Theetge ont complété le top cinq.

Steckly a pris la relève d'Alex qui a dû faire l'impasse sur la course de Saint-Eustache après avoir contracté une myocardite virale mineure. Tag a dû suivre les consignes de son médecin qui lui avait conseillé de se tenir à l'écart de toute activité physique ce weekend, surtout la course automobile. La bonne nouvelle c'est qu'il n'aura aucune séquelle.

« Je me suis amusé à mon retour en piste aujourd'hui, a déclaré Scott Steckly, mais ce n'est pas le résultat que j'espérais. Cette série est très compétitive et avec un changement de pilote de dernière minute, j'accepte le résultat et l'on passe à la prochaine étape. Nous espérons qu'Alex recouvre rapidement la santé. En relève, j'ai fait tout mon possible pour EpiPen, RONA et Spectra Premium. Nous devons travailler plus fort sur notre programme de piste ovale afin de l'améliorer. Nous espérons terminer la saison sur une meilleure note. »

Rappelons que c'était la dernière visite de la série NASCAR Pinty's à l'Autodrome Saint-Eustache, car celle-ci sera démolie à la fin de sa saison de course 2019.

Dix-sept voitures ont pris le départ de la course NASCAR Pinty's et 13 ont croisé l'arrivée, dont sept sur le tour du vainqueur. L'épreuve de 250 tours a été neutralisée à quatre reprises pour un total de 29 tours. Le Lucas Oil 250 sera diffusé sur RDS2 le dimanche 29 septembre à 13 h 30.

Au championnat des propriétaires :
Avec la participation de Scott Steckly à la course de Saint-Eustache, l'équipe EpiPen/RONA/St-Hubert/Spectra Premium numéro 18 occupe toujours le quatrième rang du classement des propriétaires avec 427 points, neuf de moins que celle de Marc-André Bergeron du pilote LP Dumoulin, troisième au classement.

Au championnat des pilotes :
Kevin Lacroix est le nouveau meneur au classement des pilotes avec 464 points, deux de mieux qu'Andrew Ranger. À moins de malchance, la lutte pour le titre se fera entre les deux pilotes québécois. LP Dumoulin est toujours troisième, mais avec 28 points de recul, suivi du vainqueur de Saint-Eustache Jason Hathaway qui totalise 411 points (-53) et D.J. Kennington (-61). Quant à Tagliani, il est hors de la course au sixième rang puisqu'il pourrait rater les deux dernières épreuves

Kevin Lacroix devant les siens, en tête du classement des pilotes partagé avec Andrew Ranger

Kevin Lacroix avait un objectif principal avant la course au Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) : reprendre le plus de points possibles sur l'avance d'Andrew Ranger pour le titre pilote.

Lacroix atteint son objectif : Il remporte la pole, puis gagne la course TOTAL Quartz 200, accumulant suffisamment de points pour rejoindre Ranger au classement général à l'approche de la visite à l'Autodrome Saint-Eustache.

Lacroix prendra donc le départ sur sa piste locale, qu'il connait bien et donc avec un avantage sur ses concurrents.

Bien qu'à deux pas de son atelier de course, Lacroix n'a pas encore gagné en Pinty's à l'Autodrome Saint-Eustache. En quatre départs, Lacroix y a accumulé deux poles et un meilleur résultat de quatrième.

« Ça fait vraiment du bien de revenir chez nous », dit Lacroix. « Nous semblons toujours nous qualifier en tête et nous sommes rapides.

« La chance n'a pas été de notre côté ces dernières années », ajoute Lacroix. « Elle reviendra un de ces jours et nous laissera gagner une course. »

Pour sa part, Andrew Ranger cherche à revenir en force après qu'une crevaison au CTMP cause une perte de points importante. Il termine neuvième, mais voit son avance de 11 points en tête du classement disparaître.

« C'est malheureux, mais en tant qu'équipe, nous devons aller de l'avant », déclare Ranger. « Ce sera difficile pour Kevin, mais nous avons déjà gagné ici, et je pense que ce sera une bonne course pour nous. »

Ranger a terminé à neuf reprises dans le top 10, alors que sa seule victoire à Saint-Eustache remonte à 2015.

Le tracé serré présente un autre défi pour les pilotes, gérer leurs émotions à la suite d'incidents souvent provocateurs.

La confrontation d'après course entre Alex Tagliani et Kevin Lacroix après le CTMP ajoute un élément supplémentaire à la course. De plus, il est possible que l'un ou l'autre prétendant au titre soit victime de l'incident d'un autre pilote.

250 tours, une éternité pour un pilote qui joue sa saison. Avec un classement aussi serré en cette fin de saison, chaque point revêt une importance presque critique.

Marc-Antoine Camirand revient sur le site de sa première victoire en série Pinty's.

Dans une course entachée de multiples neutralisations en 2018, peu de gens misaient sur une victoire de la part de Camirand. Reconnu pour ses qualités de coureur sur tracé routier, Marc-Antoine remporte alors sa première victoire en série à l'Autodrome Saint-Eustache.

Après une saison 2019 difficile, le pilote de Saint-Léonard d'Aston (Québec) cherche à renverser la vapeur et répéter son exploit de l'année dernière tout en réalisant une première victoire cette année.

Une troisième visite au Québec cette saison

Le Lucas Oil 250 marque la dernière visite au Québec cette année pour la série NASCAR Pinty's. Lors des deux courses précédentes, deux pilotes issus de la filière Dumoulin Compétition ont remporté les courses. À l'Autodrome Chaudière, Raphaël Lessard a survécu à la pluie pour remporter sa première victoire en série, tandis qu'au Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, c'était une fin historique pour Louis-Philippe Dumoulin et son frère Jean-François, qui ont fêté un double 50^eanniversaire - la course et 50 années de participation de la famille Dumoulin en sports motorisés.

Les pilotes québécois sont 2 pour 2 dans leur province et ont ce weekend une chance au tiercé en 2019.

En souvenir de l'Autodrome Saint-Eustache

L'Autrodrome Saint-Eustache fermera ses portes à la fin de 2019, une annonce faite en 2017. Au cours de ses neuf saisons au calendrier de la série Pinty's, la piste a vu cinq champions NASCAR gagner ainsi que deux nouveaux vainqueurs.

Le quadruple champion Scott Steckly a remporté quatre victoires à Saint-Eustache, son plus haut total de victoires sur une même piste dans la série NASCAR Pinty's. D.J. Kennington, Andrew Ranger, Cayden Lapcevich et Alex Labbé ont aussi gagné ici. Deux des victoires de Steckly (2008,2013) ainsi que celles de Lapcevich et Labbé sont survenues au cours des années où ils ont remporté le championnat.

Avec plus de 21 années de souvenirs de stock-car, le drapeau à damier final de samedi soir provoquera certainement des émotions mixtes chez les amateurs comme chez les pilotes.

Kevin Lacroix Enters Home Track Tied Atop Standings

Kevin Lacroix had one main objective heading into last week's race at CTMP – gain as many points as possible on Andrew Ranger.

On a beautiful August day, Lacroix accomplished his goal. After winning the pole, he grabbed the checkered flag in the TOTAL Quartz 200, picking up enough points to tie Ranger in the standings heading into Autodrome Saint-Eustache.

And now, Lacroix has home-field advantage.

Despite being a stone's throw away from his race shop, Lacroix has yet to score a win at Autodrome Saint-Eustache. In four starts, Lacroix has two poles but his best finish is only fourth.

"It feels really good to come back," Lacroix said. "We always seem to qualify up at the front and we always seem to be really fast there.

"The luck hasn't been on our side in the recent years," Lacroix added. "At some point thoough, it's got to be out turn to finally get some luck and pull off a win."

On the other side of the spectrum, Andrew Ranger is looking to rebound after a tire failure in CTMP resulted in a cataclysmic points loss. He managed to finish ninth, but saw his 11 point lead disappear.

"The whole tire thing was unfortunate but as a team we have to move forward," Ranger said. "It's going to be tough as we are going into Kevin's home race, but we've won there before and been fast in the past so I think it will be a good race for us."

Ranger has finished in the top 10 in all nine starts there, but his lone win came in 2015.

Another challenge facing the points leaders is the fact that Saint-Eustache is known as a bullring, making it a place where angry drivers choose to enact revenge.

After the post-race fireworks between Alex Tagliani and Kevin Lacroix after CTMP, there is an additional element added to the race. Plus it could be possible for either title contender to get swept up in someone else's mess.

250 laps will feel like an eternity when a driver's season is on the line. With the points standings so close this late in the year, every point matters and every race matters just a little more now.

Alex Cuzzilla Scores First Career OMRS Win: JBJ Clinches 2019 Title

Close to a dozen open wheeled teams signed-in for the 2019 Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. and Gen-3 Electric – season finale Saturday, August 31^st at Peterborough Speedway.

With a 25 lap feature event on the agenda to close out the night's action, Randy Hollingsworth and former tour champion Rob Warnes brought the field to the green flag. Warnes took the early lead from his outside front row starting spot, the race pace was brought to an early halt when an incident in the 3^rd turn brought out the red flag with just a single lap on the scoreboard.

Back under green, youngster Alex Cuzzilla – who is wrapping-up just his first full season of stock car racing – took the lead, with championship hopeful John Baker Jr. holding-down the runner-up spot. The pair ran a perfect race at the front of pack, with the 16-year-old holding the veteran at bay with every turn of the wheel. Even working through slower traffic near the halfway mark, Cuzzilla never faltered. JBJ followed the #50 machine across the line, with the father and son duo of Rick and Rob Warnes 3^rd and 4^th. Craig Scott – in what may have been his final run with the tour – was 5^th. Bob Franks, Chad Strawn, Hollingsworth, Willow Barberstock and Alex Lees completed the finishing order.

Unofficially, John Baker Jr. is the 2019 OMRS champion by a margin of 15 points over Strawn.

Ontario Modifieds Racing Series notebook: Randy Hollingsworth, Alex Lees, Chad Strawn and John Baker Jr. scored OMRS qualifying event wins…Heading into the show, John Baker Jr. and Chad Strawn were locked in a tight battle for the 2019 series championship. That changed when Strawn suffered a mechanical issue during the opening heat race that sidelined his #77C machine. In a show of good sportsmanship, Josh Gruntz loaned the #31 ride to his friend for the balance of the show. Ironically, Strawn was seen wearing what he called his lucky 'Josh Gruntz Racing' t-shirt earlier in the night.

Hearn Ready to Defend Vermont 200 Win at Devil’s Bowl Speedway

Biggest Crate Modified race in history set for Sunday

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Brett "The Jet" Hearn is coming back to Devil's Bowl Speedway. The dirt track racing legend has confirmed that he will attempt to defend his victory in the Interstate All Battery Center "Vermont 200" on Sunday, September 1. The Kinnelon, N.J., superstar just notched the 918^th win of his career and will try to raise that total as he returns to Devil's Bowl for the biggest race in the country for Crate Sportsman Modified cars.

Hearn pocketed $10,000 plus bonuses in last year's 200-lap race and will try for the same this weekend. Hearn has momentum on his side at Devil's Bowl this year, too: He scored a trifecta at the "Battle at the Bowl" Big Block/Small Block Modified Challenge event on August 11, finishing first, second, and third in his three feature races. Hearn told the crowd, "I love this place!" in Victory Lane, and reports that he'll be ready for Sunday's big event with the car that he used to win the Battle at the Bowl Small Block feature.

Should a regular weekly Sportsman competitor from Devil's Bowl or any other track win the race, promoter Mike Bruno has promised an extra $2,000 bonus to bring the winner's minimum purse to $12,000. Adding in more than $5,000 in lap leader bonuses, the race is the richest and longest Sportsman event anywhere in North America.

The competition at Devil's Bowl will be very tough when Hearn arrives on Sunday, and he'll have his work cut out for him. Longtime rival Kenny Tremont Jr. of West Sand Lake, N.Y., leads the weekly Pepsi Sportsman Modified title chase at Devil's Bowl and has six victories in 2019 including a pair of 100-lap scores. Young gun Jack Speshock of Malta, N.Y., has been hot as well with feature wins in each of the last two weeks.

Among the Vermonters expected put up a fight are Joey Scarborough, Frank Hoard III, Adam Pierson, Jimmy Ryan, and Justin Comes, and dozens of other Devil's Bowl regulars from New Hampshire and New York are also expected to defend their home turf. All indications point to a field approaching last year's 56 race day entries, with interest also shown from drivers in Connecticut, central and western New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.

The Vermont 200 Weekend kicks off on Saturday, August 31 at 3:00 p.m., as Devil's Bowl Speedway's weekly Limited Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock, and 500cc Mini Sprint divisions will be in action for a full card of racing. Sportsman Modified drivers may also try the optional "Ron Casey Memorial" Non-Winners Shootout event with qualifying heats and a 20-lap feature; only drivers who have not won in the Big Block, Small Block, Sportsman, or Limited Sportsman Modified in 2019 may enter. The Saturday event is followed by Devil's Bowl's famous pig roast BBQ and bonfire party at 6:30 p.m.

All qualifying for the Sportsman Modified division will be held on Sunday beginning at 4:00 p.m., with heats, consolation races, and a last-chance "B" Main; time trials have been eliminated for the 2019 edition. The 200-lap main event will start 32-34 cars. The Sprint Cars of New England tour will also be on Sunday with a special 360/305 Sprint Car Challenge paying $750 to win with a $100 bonus for the top-finishing 305 engine.

General admission is just $35 for the two-day event and includes free admission to the Saturday night BBQ party. Single-day tickets are also available for $15 on Saturday (includes BBQ) and $25 on Sunday. Pit passes are $45 and are good for both days. Camping passes are available for $25, with camping open at 12:00 noon on Friday.

Nick Ledson Sweeps Peterborough Speedway Ontario Legends Series Features…Again

After criss-crossing the province for about a month – including the running of the Canadian Asphalt Legend Car Nationals – teams with the Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series returned to the venue known as Canada's Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval for a pair of feature events Saturday, August 24^th. On the line were valuable tour points toward this year's overall championship, as well as a chance to move-up in the standings for the inaugural Clarke Motorsports Communications Challenge Cup for events at Peterborough Speedway.

Fast-time qualifiers Nicholas Ledson and Parker Traves brought the starting field to the green flag in the opening 25 lapper. Coming from his front row starting spot, Ledson led the opening laps until a lap 5 yellow flag for an incident in the 2nd turn slowed his charge. This year's winner of the Canadian Asphalt Legend Car Nationals started to work through slower traffic, just as another issue brought out the red flag. Current point leader Parker Traves was looking to get around Ledson on the restart, but the #15N ride was too strong. Not even a late race yellow flag could keep him from the win. Dawson Drimmie, Kevin Foisy and Kenny McNicol Jr. followed the leaders across the line to complete the top 5. Andrew Massey, Paul Pierik, Jeff Forsey, Shane Pollock, Wes Cuthbertson, Mark Griffin, Cory Richardson, Jeremy Coulter, Zach Latimer, Thomas Dunn, Glenn Morris, Joe Sherman, Adam Cuthbertson, Rick Eades, Cole McFadden and Miles Tyson rounded-out the finishing positions.

The night's second Ontario Legends Series feature – a holdover from a Saturday, June 1st rainout – had Kenny McNicol Jr. and Jeff Forsey on the front row. McNicol took the lead early but the pace was slowed because of a yellow flag with only a single lap on the scoreboard. Kevin Foisy was looking for a turn at the front of the field and moved into the runner-up spot on the restart. Searching high and low, he wasn't able to take over the top position and faced a challenge from Nick Ledson who slid into 2nd with 6 laps complete and took the lead 9 circuits into the 25 lap affair. Foisy kept trying but could only get close to the leader over the closing stages. Parker Traves, Adam Cuthbertson and Dawson Drimmie completed the top 5 as Ledson once again swept the pair of feature events. McNicol Jr., Andrew Massey, Forsey, Cory Richardson, Jeremy Coulter, Joe Sherman, Mark Griffin, Glenn Morris, Wes Cuthbertson, Paul Pierik, Miles Tyson, Shane Pollock and Zach Latimer rounded-out the running order.

Trailers Plus Ontario Legends Series notebook: Ledson's Peterborough Speedway sweep came hot on the heels of his win at the Canadian Asphalt Legend Car Nationals a week earlier…The weekend started off great for Miles Tyson, who qualified 4^th fastest. He got up 2^nd place in the first feature before breaking a trailing arm. In the 2^nd 'A' main, his #49 was caught-up in a wreck and hit the wall…Things weren't much better for Cole McFadden. During the first feature, he rolled into the infield grass off the backstretch with a small fire under the hood and was finished for the night…Jeremy Coulter made the tow from Smiths Falls, Ontario for his first start of the season. He was 13^th in the first feature and 10^th in the second…The next event on the 2019 schedule is a double header – Saturday, September 7^th and Sunday, September 8^th – at Grand Bend Speedway.

Robert Delormier Conquers DirtCar Sportsman Series Field at Cornwall

In the eleven previous tour races held at the Cornwall Motor Speedway, the DirtCar Sportsman Series has produced a total of eight different winners in track history. With 2018 Martin Pelletier on to the 358 Modified ranks for 2019 it left everyone with a clear shot to claim a checkered flag.

Ryan Stabler would jump into the early race lead at the start of the 50-lap event over Kaven Poliquin, Robert Delormier, Justin Desrosiers and Johnathon Ferguson. Stabler who has only 3 career wins in the DirtCar Sportsman ranks, was looking strong on this night as he pulled away on a slick race track in the early laps as behind him Robert Delormier was making his move forward to the number two spot.

On lap 5 Delormier would make his move and quickly close in on Ryan Stabler who was starting to enter into traffic. By lap 12 the top two had pulled away from the field and were cutting through the traffic perfectly while Brianna Ladouceur was also on the charge from her 8th starting spot. Ladouceur who had previously competed in the 150-lap 358 Modified race earlier in the day, was running on pure adrenaline as she got by Kaven Poliquin on lap 20.

At the halfway point Stabler and Delormier were battling hard for the lead but traffic was making it very difficult for the two of them which allow Ladouceur to close in and make it a 3-car battle. On lap 38 the first yellow flew as Jeffrey Lapalme slowed to a stop in turn 4.

When the green flew Robert Delormier knew it was go-time as he took over the lead and started to drive away. Behind him, Brianna Ladouceur was also on the charge as she battled Ryan Stabler for 2nd over the final 10 laps with Johnathon Ferguson 4th and former series champion and 8-time Cornwall feature winner Shane Pecore completing the top 5.

In the end, Robert Delormier would go unchallenged claiming his 2nd career DirtCar Sportsman Series win and first on the North Region in 2019. Brianna Ladouceur's busy night resulted in a second-place run followed by Ryan Stabler, Johnathon Ferguson, and Shane Pecore.

The North Region takes a couple of weeks away before getting back to action at the Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway and Travis Bruno will look to defend home turf after winning the regional opener on May 4th.

Super DIRTcar Series Stars Aiming to Build Momentum at Utica-Rome

100 laps will decide $7,500-winner on Sunday, Sept. 1 in Vernon, NY

VERNON, NY – Utica-Rome Speedway has developed a reputation for being one of the fastest and most exciting race tracks on the Super DIRTcar Series tour. On Sunday, Sept. 1, the biggest stars in Big Block Modified racing will compete over 100 laps for $7,500-to-win and $500-to-start on the Vernon, NY dirt oval in an event presented by Broedel Fuel Group and Clinton Tractor.

So far in 2019, the Baldwinsville Bandit Jimmy Phelps and his HBR No. 98H have been locked out of Victory Lane despite their strong efforts. Last year Phelps found the winning formula and took the checkered flag at Utica-Rome in July. HBR will be checking their notebook from last year's race to duplicate the success.

In that race, Phelps held off Danny Johnson and Erick Rudolph for 100 laps. This year Danny Johnson has lacked stability, racing for three different race teams. Incredibly he's maintained a top-10 seed in points. Now it seems the operation has settled down and Johnson, a 2019 Hall of Fame inductee, is starting to find his groove. Can The Doctor get the familiar orange No. 27J to the front once again?

Erick Rudolph is this year's DIRTcar 358 Modified Track Champion at Utica-Rome. Don't expect the No. 25R to be far from the front in any of the race sessions on Sunday, Sept. 1. Rudolph took the win in a 358 Modified Series race earlier this year after outdueling rival Mat Williamson.

Billy Dunn and Pat Ward sit second and third in Utica-Rome's weekly points. They are both good bets to take the fight to Series regulars for the $7,500 payday.

Other drivers to be on hand include defending NAPA Super DIRT Week Champion Larry Wight, living legend Billy Decker, rookies Ryan Godown, Jack Lehner and Demetrios Drellos, Buzz Chew Racing's Williamson and more.

Peter Britten and Mike Mahaney are two drivers who have been performing well in their Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship programs but have fallen short of their expectations in Series racing. Both are also with new teams in 2019. Britten is back to his family-owned program while Mahaney has moved to the No. 35 Huttig-owned Big Block Modified.

With a heavy schedule up until November's Can-Am World Finals at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, Mahaney and Britten need to capture some momentum for the final leg of the season to make a push for the top five. Can Utica-Rome produce a new 2019 winner?

Championship Clash Settles the Score for Peterborough Speedway Regular Season

Its all come down to this. The curtain is about to drop on an exciting 2019 regular season of action at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road. Don't miss your chance to experience the Championship Clash, where this year's titles in the hometown Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck, KOD Disposal Super Stock and Late Model divisions; along with the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series will be decided – Saturday, August 31^st – at Peterborough Speedway.

"Some of the championship battles could come down to the final turn on the last lap of the feature event. We've had an amazing season and I can't wait to award all of our drivers for their hard work," said track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse. "In addition to our full show, the season finale will also include Top 10 Shootouts for our regular Saturday night classes for the chance to earn a little extra cash in addition to a pat on the back for a job well done."

To wrap-up Peterborough Speedway's 2019 regular season and the final show of this year's Hot August Nights Racing Series, pit gates will open at 12:30, with the general admission spectator grandstands unlocked at 3:00. The night's first qualifying heat is set to roll from the staging area at 5:00..
