Much Anticipated Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres Takes Place this Weekend for 22 Racing

Milverton, ON, Wednesday Aug. 7, 2019:   The much-anticipated Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres and the 50 Tours Hotel Le Concorde is next up on the NASCAR Pinty's Series schedule this weekend Aug. 10th & 11th in what will be the 50th running of this eventt.  The three 22 Racing drivers look forward to this iconic event each year in their home province.

"This is one of the big three on our schedule each year and we know how important it is to Donald, Marc-Antoine and Alex to have good cars and be able to run up front before their home province fans," said team owner Scott Steckly.  "The crew is putting in long hours to get the cars ready as they do every week, so we expect them to be challenging for the podium spots."

Alex Tagliani driver of the #18 Rona/EpiPen/St Hubert Camaro is looking to make it three in a row as he has won the last two Grand Prix's here in 2017 and 2018.  It is no small feat to have won two in a row as the competition is stout with a large number of the competitors being road course aces.  Look for Tagliani to be pushing hard to get that three in a row and add to his 5 top five finishes, 2 poles and 69 laps led here.

Marc-Antoine Camirand driver of the #22 GM Paille Chevrolet Camaro has not tasted victory at the Grand Prix in the NASCAR Pinty's series, but he has in other racing disciplines. He will be pushing hard to get to the top step of the podium this year and claim his 2nd series win and add to his 2 poles, three top 10 finishes and 37 laps led on this challenging 1.53-mile, 11 turn temporary street course.

Donald Theetge driver of the #24 Mercedes-Benz St Nicolas/Circuit Acura entry while not considered a road course racer finished in 7th in 2018 and loves the hometown atmosphere of having family and friends out to cheer him on.  Look for Donald to crack the top ten again this year and move up in the national standings.

The 2019 edition of the Grand Prix de Trois Rivieres, event eight of thirteen will see the NASCAR Pinty's series on track for practice on Saturday at 12:50 p.m. followed by qualifying at 5 p.m.  Sunday's autograph session will take place on track at 12:30 p.m. followed by the green flag for the 50 Tours Hotel Le Concorde at 2:18 p.m.  For more information on the grand prix visit gp3r.com

Montreal, July 28, 2019 – Every motorsport fan knows it's what happens on the final laps of oval track racing that makes NASCAR so exciting. Anything and everything can happen. Payback time at the end of the race is often spectacular, and what excites race fans. However, rain showers are big spoilers on oval track events, and it happened twice in two of the three races held last week in NASCAR Pinty's Western Swing. Wednesday evening in Saskatoon, a heavy downpour drowned the track and stopped the first of the two Velocity Prairie Thunder Twin 125s sprint races on lap 116 of 125. And Saturday evening in Wetaskiwin, a suburb of Edmonton, the same scenario was replayed, but this time on lap 275 of the 300 scheduled laps of the Luxxur 300. The sweltering heat announced over the Prairies finally turned into thunderstorms and sparked nightmares for some of the drivers.
 
And that's what happened again on Saturday evening to racecar driver Alex Tagliani during this annual trip, a voyage that has not suited him well over these last couple of years, as he finished eighth. The Quebec driver was twice again a victim of the rain. The first difficulty came when qualifying was rained out and series officials used practice times as the starting grid for Round 7. Tag was 12th at the end of practice. Starting near the end of field on a quarter-mile oval track can cause all kinds of troubles for any driver. And Tag was also unlucky during most of the race restarts as he was caught on the outside lane, far from the leader. Not the right lane to be on as Tag discovered during the most of the five green flag restarts. Each time, he fell two or three spots in the field before gaining back his lost positions.
 
 "Another race shortened by rain. It's quite upsetting because the results are not representative of the performances of the Chevrolet #18 RONA/ EpiPen/St Hubert Spectra Premium," explained Tagliani after the race. "Unlucky on top of that because I got caught on the outside lane several times during race restarts and it's not the place you want to be on a short oval track. Each time, I had to retake positions lost before getting back to where I was before the yellow flag. I even got as high as sixth place, but there were full course yellows followed by restarts and I found myself buried in 12th place a couple of times.
 
 "It's a shame, because the car was much better than the results we achieved. But there is a positive side that does not show on the result sheets. Team 22 Racing has improved the oval car package a lot during the Western trip, but we have not yet reached its full potential. It's promising for the upcoming oval track races. Right now, we are not in a hopeless situation. We are not throwing in the towel. We are going to continue to work hard and fight to win all the remaining races."
 
A look back at what happened to Tag Saskatoon
Tagliani got a tough break in Saskatoon, but most of all he was unlucky when he finished 11th in the first Velocity Prairie Thunder Twin 125s on Wednesday, July 24. Running fifth on lap 107 on the Wyant Group Raceway one-third-mile progressive banking track, he was trying to pass a backmarker on the outside of a limited dry racing lane, when she pushed out a bit sending Tagliani onto a wet part of the track. He spun with his slick General Tires, as did so many before him, but bad luck would have it that the race was prematurely halted because of rain on lap 116 of the scheduled 125-lap affair. He never had a chance to fight back to the front as he did so many times early in the race. He had qualified eighth, but an early race start brawl sent him to 13th place before he was able to charge back to fifth.
 
In the second half of the twin bill after a long weather delay to dry the track, Tagliani finished sixth after starting 15th, quite a comeback for Tag. Starting positions for the second Velocity Prairie Thunder Twin 125s sprint are set by the first race quickest lap where he did not fare so well. Saskatoon has never been kind to Alex whose record is only three top-five finishes in nine starts.
 
The Velocity Prairie Thunder Twin 125s will air on TSN on Saturday, August 3 at 1 pm ET, while the LUXXUR 300 will be televised on TSN on Sunday, August 11 at 1:30 pm ET.
 
In the standings
If rain was a curse for some of the drivers, it was a blessing in disguise for Andrew Ranger as he faired very well in the championship race. Winner of two of the three Western Canada races, Ranger, with 311 points, increased his lead to 18 over Kevin Lacroix. With a win and a fourth-place finish in Saskatoon and a third-place finish in Edmonton, LP Dumoulin moved past Tagliani into third place with 281 points. Tag, who was only 14 points behind Ranger before the start of the Western Swing, now finds him 44 points behind the leader.
 
Next stop: The Grand Prix of Trois-Rivières
The NASCAR Pinty's Series takes two weeks off after a gruelling Western trip for some of the teams as they head back East. For Tagliani, the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières street course is a welcome venue where he has done extremely well in the past four years winning the last two GP3R and stepping four times on the podium.

Nothing matches the thrills and excitement of the Hot August Nights Racing Series at Peterborough Speedway. The final month of the 2019 regular season at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road is packed with close point battles and special events as things wind-down for another year at Central Ontario's favourite place to race.


The popular 5-race homestretch kicks-off Saturday, August 3rd as the OSCAAR Modifieds and Pro Sprints join the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock and Jiffy Lube Mini Stock divisions. Also on the show will be a 30 'A' main for the KOD Disposal Super Stocks that will serve as a qualifier for the Canadian Short Track Nationals at Jukasa Motor Speedway. The night gets underway with a free, pre-race corn roast.


"Across the board, the point standings in our weekly divisions are tighter than they've been in years," said Peterborough Speedway owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse. "Our teams have been battling hard all season long and the next 5 weeks will determine who gets their name engraved on the championship trophies at the end of the year."


For the Saturday, August 3rd show, pit gates will open at 2:00, with the general admission grandstands unlocked at 4:00 and the night's first green flag scheduled for 6:00.


There is still plenty of exciting action ahead of the Saturday, August 31st Championship Clash. Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series teams are booked for a 100 lapper; along with the home track Bone Stock, Mini Stock, Renegade Truck and Late Model divisions Saturday, August 10th. The year's final Summer Toonie Night, presented by Pepsi – Saturday, August 17th – includes a 50 lap Late Model feature event with Bone Stocks, Renegade Trucks, Super Stocks and the Ontario Pro Challenge Series. Wetaskiwin, AB, July 28, 2019— Marc-Antoine Camirand ended his trip West with the NASCAR Pinty's series with a sixth-place finish, at the Edmonton International Raceway, in Wetaskiwin, AB. The driver of the GM Paillé n°22 Chevrolet Camaro pull off the best he could out of his car during a rain-shortened race.
 
After 22 Racing team made radical changes to the front suspension of the car in Saskatoon, Camirand was hoping for a better outing in Edmonton. "With all the changes we made, we could have used more track time. Unfortunately, rain cut short the practice sessions, then qualifying was canceled. We would have taken a few more laps to find the right settings," stated Camirand, who started the 300-lap race from the 8th place, set according to practice times.
 
Camirand has been able to gain some positions during the race, despite being unlucky on restarts. "It felt like I took all the restarts from the outside lane. My car was oversteering again, but I did the best that I could. At the end, I had just passed Donald (Theetge, in 5th place) when it started raining again after 275 laps. NASCAR set up the field with the last completed lap, so I have been given a 6th place finish," said the driver from Saint-Léonard-d'Aston.
 
After a disappointing Western Swing, Marc-Antoine Camirand wants to move on and is looking forward to the next race, at his home event, the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières.
 
"In Edmonton, I did the best that I could with the car I had. It was better than it was in Saskatoon, but there is still something missing to run with the leaders. I'm looking forward to going back on a road course, especially to Trois-Rivières. Tim Burke is Set for a Late Season Super Stock Championship Charge

Turn back the clock to opening night; the time of year when drivers in every class had dreams of a track championship. As the schedule wore on, some dropped out of the hunt, while others kept their dog in the fight. With the 2019 regular season in the homestretch, Bancroft's Tim Burke is ready to mount an all-out charge for his inaugural Peterborough Speedway Super Stock title.


With a diverse resume that includes experience in an American-Canadian Tour Late Model, the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series and OSCAAR Modified divisions and the 2016 Peterborough Speedway Renegade Truck championship, Burke and his team are committed to putting everything they have into capturing the crown. With the Super Stock class slated to be part of 4 of the remaining 5 events on calendar, Tim Burke says this is the perfect time for his #99 crew to get hot.


"Some of the changes in the new rules package threw us a curve and that led to a slow start to our season at Peterborough," said the driver. "We've been getting better week-after-week and the effort we're putting into some of the changes we make on the car is starting to pay off. It finally feels consistent and that's showing in our runs. It would've been nice to have a feature win by this point, but the top 5 and top 10 finishes we've been able to log and that's kept us in the hunt."


In addition to his performance on the familiar layout of the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, Burke and the team also took their show on the road Saturday, June 22nd for another start at Jukasa Motor Speedway. Having been there only once before, the talented wheelman needed to go over his notes to come up with a set-up for the much bigger and faster Southwestern Ontario speed-plant. While he had hoped for a better result at the end of the day, it was still a strong learning experience.


"Looking at the big picture, the trip was good. We picked-up some information on what will work for when we head back there for the Saugeen Shores Transmission event – Sunday, September 1st – paying $5000 to win." Burke admitted. "Even though we lost a cylinder 8 laps into the race, we still managed to finish on the lead lap. It was a little disappointing, but you have to take what the car will give you."

John Baker Jr. Takes His 2nd Straight OMRS Feature Win at Peterborough Speedway

It was another exciting night of open-wheeled action as the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. and Gen-3 Electrical – got together Saturday, July 27th to tackle the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road.


With 25 laps on the table, Randy Hollingsworth and Craig Scott brought the pack to the green flag for the main event. Hollingsworth and Rick Warnes led a breakaway from the inside line as a 4-car battle for the 3rd position in the running order was being waged behind them. Rob Warnes held it first, with Nick Lees taking his turn in the spot with a lap 6 pass. Lees and Chad Strawn were locked in a 4-car fight for the lead, as Strawn took control of the field on lap 11.


There was action all around the venue known as Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval and John Baker Jr. used lapped traffic to his advantage to wrestle the lead away with a lap 21 pass. At the checkered flag, the pilot of the #63 machine held-off a challenge from Strawn and the 12-car field became Baker's Dozen, as the fan favourite wrapped-up his second consecutive Ontario Modifieds Racing Series victory in the caution-free event. Dwight Brown, Lees, Alex Cuzzilla, Rob Warnes, Rick Warnes, Scott, Bob Franks, Willow Barberstock, Hollingsworth and Josh Gruntz completed the running order.


Ontario Modifieds Racing Series notebook: Qualifying event wins went to Alex Cuzzilla, Rick Warnes, Chad Strawn and Josh Gruntz…The tour returns to battle with a Saturday, August 3rd date at Flamborough Speedway.
