Près de 4000 personnes ont remplis les gradins, le pic de sable et sont demeuré debout pour assister aux classes locales, aux Super Sportsman Lucas Oil et les ACT Late Model.

Almost 4000 people lined the stands, sand dunes and were standing for the event which showcased local classes, the Lucas Oil Super Sportsmans and ACT Late Models.

Boischatel, QC driver and 2006 ACT Castrol Champion Donald Theetge had to wait to the third ACT Castrol event of the 2009 campaign to win for a first time and also earn his invitation to the ACT Invitational 50 race to be held at New Hampshire Motor Speedway next September on NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend. The AIM 150 race was held at Autodrome Chaudière on Saturday June 6th in front of a standing room crowd estimated at 4000 people by track Competition Director Pierre Lessard. Completing the podium behind Theetge were St-Jean- Crysosthome driver Patrick Cliche and East Broughton driver Jacques Poulin.

Le pilote de Boischatel, QC et champion de la série ACT Castrol 2006, Donald Theete a dû attendre la troisième manche du championnat 2009 pour remporter sa première victoire et obtenir son laissé-passer pour le ACT Invitational 50 à la piste de New Hampshire Motor Speedway lors des compétitions NASCAR Sprint Cup en septembre prochain. Le AIM 150 a été disputé à l’autodrome Chaudère le samedi 6 juin devant une foule de près de 4000 personnes selon le directeur de la compétition de la piste M. Pierre Lessard. Complétant le podium derrière Theetge, de St-Jean-Crysosthome Patrick Cliche et de East Broghton Jacques Poulin.






Vingt neuf voitures étaient sur place et ont tenté de se qualifier pour une des vignt-six position de départ dans la finale. Les six meilleurs de chacune des trois courses de qualification et de la consolation (course de dernière chance) passaient à la finale. Deux autres pilotes, les deux meilleurs finalistes ayant participé à 100% des épreuves ACT Castrol complétaient la grille.

Twenty nine cars showed up for one of the twenty six starting positions in the feature race. The top six of each of three qualifying heats and the consolation round went the way of the feature. Two 100% ACT provisionals completed the field.








En qualification, c’est la première vague qui a retenu l’attention de tous. Lors du premier incident de deux dans cette qualification, à la sortie du virage deux, Marc-André Cliche, qui était à l’arrière du peloton, a embouti l’arrière-gauche de Spencer MacPherson. Se dernier a été projeté en glissade devant la voiture de Claude Leclerc qui s’amenait. Leclerc a donc monté sur le côté de sa voiture. Aucune voiture n’a retraitée de l’épreuve.

The story in qualifying had to be the first heat. The first of two incidents occurred when Marc-André Cliche, who was at the rear of the field, bumped Spencer MacPherson in the left rear quarter panel as they exited turn two, sending MacPherson’s car going into a slide in front of the oncoming Claude Leclerc automobile. Leclerc with nowhere to go climbed on the side of the MacPherson car. No one retired from the qualifier.










Le second et incident indépendant a survenu lorsque Marc-André Cliche et Dany Ouellette qui se battaient à l’arrière du peloton ont entré fort dans la courbe numéro trois, portant la bataille à trois de large à l’intérieur de Claude Leclerc. Tandis que Cliche a placé deux roues sur la pelouse et a effectué un léger contact, c’est l’impact effectué par Ouellette, lorsqu’il a soulevé l’arrière de la voiture de Daniel Decoste, que la réaction en chaîne est survenue. Daniel Decoste, comme une boule dans une machine à boule à frappé la voiture de son frère Stéphane Decoste pour ensuite se déporter dans la voiture de Sylvain Lacombe qui roulaient dans la ligne extérieur. Les voitures de Daniel Decoste et de Sylvain Lacombe étaient emboîtée et ont terminées leur course à la sortie du virage quatre à quelques pieds du mur extérieur. Les deux sont revenu à la compétition sans être tout de fois un facteur… à l’exception de Daniel Decoste après la tombé du quadrillé qui a tenu à livrer personnellement un message.

The second and a separate incident occurred when battling at the back of the field local driver Marc-André Cliche and Dany Ouellette drove hard into turn 3 making it three wide below Claude Leclerc. While Cliche put two wheels on grass and made light contact, it was Ouellette who overshot his braking point and drove under Daniel Decoste’s car lifting it in the air that started the chain reaction. Like the ball in a pin ball machine Daniel bumped his brother Stephane into a spin and slid up into Sylvain Lacombe who was running the high line. Daniel Decoste and Sylvain Lacombe’s car got wedged together and came to a stop at the exit of turn four. Both would return to the race but were not a factor... until after the checker when Daniel Decoste had some messages to deliver and wanted to deliver them personally.





Dans la ronde de consolation Sylvain Lacombe, Eric St-Gelais, du Vermont Pete Potvin III, Stéphane Decoste, Jacques Poulin et Martin Lacombe ont mérité leur place dans la finale en terminant dans le top six. Claude Leclerc et Valérie Chiasson ont quant à eux pris le chemin de la finale par le biais du choix de la série. Ne se sont pas qualifiés : Kevin Roberge, Derek White, Daniel Decoste et Stéphane Durand. Dans cette ronde, Daniel Decoste a subi d’important dommage à l’avant des conséquences de son accrochage avec Martin Lacombe. Les deux se battaient depuis deux tours, Lacombe à l’intérieur et Decoste à l’extérieur. À l’entrée de la courbe numéro trois, Lacombe a raté son freinage et est parti en dérapage et a donné contre Decoste, projetant les deux voitures hors de contrôle. Elles ont monté très haut sur la piste, la voiture de Decoste donnant contre le mur extérieur.



In the consolation round Sylvain Lacombe, Eric St-Gelais, Vermont driver Pete Potvin III, Stéphane Decoste, Jacques Poulin and Martin Lacombe qualified for the feature using their top six finishing positions. Claude Leclerc and Valérie Chiasson made the field using provisional starting positions. Did not qualify: Kevin Roberge, Derek White, Daniel Decoste and Stéphane Durand. In this round, Daniel Decoste’s car sustained heavy right front damage as a result of a crash with Martin Lacombe. Both were batteling over a two lap process with Lacombe on the inside and Decoste on the outside. Going into turn three Lacombe overshot his braking point and slid into Decoste. The two cars out of control pushed up the race track coming out of turn four and squeezing Decoste’s car into the concrete wall.






La première ligne de la finale était occupée par Etienne Lemay et Marc-André Cliche. Lorsque le vert a tombé, Cliche a pris les commandes de l’épreuve et a mené les 31 premiers tours. Il a concédé sa position de tête lors d’un ralentissement avec une crevaison. Dany Ouellet, qui roulait deuxième, a assumé les commande de l’épreuve jusqu’au 34e tour lorsque Justin Holtom s’est pointé à son intérieur. Malheureusement pour Holtom il a reçu le noir pour cette manœuvre jugé d’un « bump and pass » par les officiels de l’ACT.

The feature race’s front row lined the cars of Etienne Lemay and Marc-André Cliche. When the green fell, Cliche took the commands of the race and would lead the first 31 circuits. He relinquished his top spot under yellow for a flat tire. Dany Ouellet who was running second assumed the top position until lap 34 when Justin Holtom squeezed under Ouellet. Unfortunately he was shown the black flag for his move as it was determined to have been a “bump and pass” which is not allowed by ACT Officials.






Holtom qui roulait rapidement a perdu un tour dans l’aventure et n’a pu reprendre son tour, le privant d’un bon résultat. Le jeune pilote de l’Ontario a démontré de la puissance cette année et a démontré qu’il est un sérieux prétendant pour remporter une manche du championnat ACT Castrol cette année.

Holtom who was setting a very fast pace went a lap down and was never able to make it up, depriving him of a potential good finish. The young Ontario driver has shown some muscle this year and as already proven he is a serious contender for a win on the ACT Castrol Series.



Comme Holtom se retirait afin d’obéir au drapeau noire, Patrick Hamel a pris les commandes de l’épreuve et il y demeura jusqu’au 54e tour lorsque l’éventuel gagnant Donald Theetge là passé lors d’une des rares longue séquence sur le vert (45 tours). Theetge aura mené tout les autres tours à l’exception d’un tour, mené par Karl Allard au 65e tours. Theetge a remporté la victoire avec une avance de deux voitures.

With Holtom retiring for his black flag, Patrick Hamel inherited the lead and would stay in the front of the field until lap 54 when eventual race winner Donald Theetge passed him during one of the few long green flag stretch (45 laps). Theetge would relinquish the top spot only once and for only one lap to Karl Allard on lap 65. He went on to win by a two car lead.

With his win, Donald Theetge becomes the third Quebec driver to get his ACT Invitional 50 pass.


« L’an dernier cette course avait été remise au dimanche à cause de la pluie… ce qui s’est traduit par la naissance de notre jolie petite fille. Comme elle est née prématurément, sa mère et elle, ne pouvaient être avec nous se soir. Je leur dédie donc cette victoire. Elle est aussi importante car elle me donne droit à mon laissez-passer pour la course ACT Invitational. Après avoir participé aux tests je voulais vraiment y participer » déclara un très joyeux Donald Theetge dans le cercle des vainqueurs.

“This win is for my wife and new born daughter. Last year the race was rain postponed and my wife and I stayed over... which gave us our beautiful little girl. Because she was born premature both could not be here, but I dedicate this win to them. It was also very important to me to get a win as it locks us in for the ACT Invitational race. After testing there I really wanted to go” said a jubilant Donald Theetge in victory circle.




Terminant deuxième, Patrick Cliche déclara « au début on était très rapide. Cela nous a permis de remonté jusqu’à l’avant. Mais à la fin je n’avais rien pour compétitionner Donald et Karl arrivait très rapidement, je ne crois pas qu’on aurais pu y résister. » Cette deuxième place a relancé le débat dans l’équipe à savoir s’ils participeraient dans la prochaine épreuve de la série, le TOROMONT CAT 100 à la piste de Capital City samedi prochain. « On ne prévoyait pas y participer. La dernière fois que je suis aller, c’était pitoyable. Je m’étais promis de jamais y retourner. L’équipe tiens à y être, je n’avais pas prévu m’y rendre, mais cette deuxième place m’a pratiquement convaincu. »

Finishing second, Patrick Cliche had this to say about his race “Early on I had a very good car. It allowed me to make my way to the front. At the end I didn’t have anything left for Donald and Karl was coming fast, I don’t think I could have held him off.” Cliche’s second place finish has boosted the team’s spirit. After the race they were discussing their participation in the ACT Castrol Series next event, the TOROMONT CAT 100 at Capital City Speedway next Saturday. “We didn’t plan on going there. The last time I was there it was pitiful. I promised never to go again. The team wants to go, I didn’t plan on going, but this second place may have changed my mind.”

Terminant quatrième Jacques Poulin en a surpris plus d’un. Ayant été impliqué dans les deux premier ralentissement (tour 1 et 15) et à nouveau lors du 5e ralentissement (tour 31), Poulin s’est frayé un chemin jusqu’à l’avent profitant des incidents des autres et des pilotes ayant été sanctionnés.

Fourth place finisher Jacques Poulin was a surprise to many. After being involved in the first two cautions (lap 1 and 15) and again on the fifth caution (lap 31) Poulin worked his way to the front as others got involved in incidents or got penalized and sent to the rear.





Stéphane Decoste qui a terminé cinquième avait ceci à dire : « De terminer l’épreuve est une réalisation importante. Dans les deux premières épreuves je n’ai pas eu de chance. Il a fallu de peu que je ne termine pas cette course. Lorsque Eric St-Gelais a parti en tête-à-queue, je me suis glissé entre lui et Daniel Bergeron. Le côté droit de la voiture a été arraché, mais j’ai été chanceux aucune composante de suspension a été touché. »

Stephane Decoste finished fifth. “Finishing the race was an accomplishment by itself; I didn’t have much luck in the first two races, I was fast but not there at the end. It came close again for me not to finish the race. When Eric St-Gelais went into a spin and I squeezed between him and Daniel Bergeron. It took out the complete right side of my car, but I was fortunate it did not hurt the handling.”





C’est comme si la plein lune a eu un impact sur le jugement des pilotes, la course a durée 1h35m et a été ralentie à 15 occasions!!! Tous les ralentissements étaient pour des incidents mineurs.

As if the full moon had effect on the racers and taking away their judgement, the race ran for 1h35m and was slowed on 15 occasions!!! None of the cautions were for serious incidents.

Patrick Laperle qui a été envoyé à l’arrière pour contact a fait la déclaration suivante : « Au 62e tour, j’ai frappé l’arrière de la voiture de Jonathan Desbiens. C’était pas correct de ma part. Il connaissait une belle course et rendait sa voiture juste assez large pour m’empêcher de le passer à l’extérieur et il roulait sensiblement la même ligne que moi. J’ai manqué de patience. J’ai été envoyé à l’arrière du peloton par les officiels et je respecte leur décision. J’aurais dû attendre qu’il commette une erreur. »

Patrick Laperle was sent twice to the rear for contact. “On lap 62, I did bump Jonathan Desbiens. It was not right to do so. He was having a great run and he was making his car just wide enough to prevent me from passing on the outside and he was able to run the same lines I was. I got impatient. I got sent to the back and I agree with the officials’ decision. I should have waited for him to make a mistake.”

Le champion ACT Castrol 2007 et de l’ACT Tour 2008 a ajouté « Mais je ne comprends pas leur décision de me pénaliser au 123 tours. L’accrochage a eu lieu derrière moi. Je n’étais pas impliqué. Je n’ai pas descendu ou poussé personne. J’avais une voiture rapide et je remontais le peloton. Avec 28 tours à faire j’aurais pu me battre pour une position sur le podium. Je me sens volé. »

The 2007 ACT Castrol Champion and the 2008 ACT Tour Champion continued “What I don’t understand is why I was penalized for the lap 123 incident. The spin occurred behind me. I was not involved. I didn’t chop. I didn’t push or bump anyone. I had a very fast car and I was making my way back to the front. With 28 laps to go I could have battled for a podium. I feel cheated.”





Nu été de l'indicipline et des décisions douteuses les spectateurs auraient assisté à une finale Theetge, Lacombe, Laperle et Allard.
Had it not been for lack of discipline and questionable calls fans would have had quite a finish between Theetge, Lacombe, Laperle and Allard.



Au 102e passage ce fut au tour du champion 2005 Sylvain Lacombe d’être pénalisé pour avoir embouti la voiture de Karl Allard. Laperle et Lacombe ont terminé respectivement 10 et 11.

On lap 102 the 2005 ACT Castrol Champion Sylvain Lacombe was also sent to the rear for dumping Karl Allard. Laperle and Lacombe would finish 10th and 11th respectively.



Le vainqueur de la dernière manche, Jean-François Déry a terminé neuvième. « Nous avons roulé dans juste à l’extérieur du top 5 toute la journée. Notre voiture n’était pas à son meilleur, mais ont a été pris trop souvent dans la mauvaise ligne ».

Last week’s winner Jean-François Déry finished ninth. “We ran all day just outside the top five. We didn’t have a great car but we got caught up in the wrong line too many times.”






Apres avoir été à quelques tours d'une victoire à St-Eustache et Montmagny, maintenant qu'il a son laissez-passer pour NHMS, la pression baissera finalement sur Donald Theetge et son équipe.

After seeing wins at St-Eustache and Montmagny slip away, now with his invitation for the NHMS race, the pressure if off Donald Theetge and his team.


Une fois terminé, Theetge avait augmenté son avance dans la course au championnat à 269 soit 29 points devant Karl Allard qui s’est glissé en deuxième place avec ses 240 points. Passant au troisième rang Patrick Laperle a 233 points, JF Déry qui est quatrième avec 277 points et Patrick Hamel est cinquième avec 206 points.

After everything was done, Theetge increased his lead in the Championship race to a total 269 points, 29 points ahead of Karl Allard, who moves into second place with 240 points. Laperle drops to third with 233 points, JF Déry is fourth with 277 and Patrick Hamel is fifth with 206 points.



La prochaine manche de la Série ACT Castrol est samedi au Capital City Speedway, le TOROMONT CAT 100. Martin Lacombe a remporté l’édition 2008, tandis que le champion de la Série ACT Castrol 2008, Alexandre Gingras, avait remporté l’épreuve de 2007. Martin Lacombe ne sera pas de la partie.

The next race, the fourth on the championship schedule, is this coming Saturday at Capital City Speedway for the TOROMONT CAT 100. Last year’s event was won by Martin Lacombe, while the 2007 edition was won by the 2008 ACT Castrol Series Champion Alexandre Gingras. Martin Lacombe will not be competing in the event.
