2010 BRINGS FORD RACERS NEW EQUIPMENT, FANS A NEW TEAM

Orlando, Fla. — The new Ford Pro Stock motor, a renewed commitment to circle track racing, and official approvals of the 2010 Cobra Jet engine combinations for NHRA competition were just a few of the things discussed as Ford Racing met with industry insiders at the annual Performance Racing Industry Show in Orlando, Fla., this week.

Ford Racing split its booth space into four distinct areas for the show this year, covering Street, Road Racing, Circle Track and Drag Racing.

In the Street Area:

• Ford Racing Fiesta, equipped with Steeda/Ford Racing power upgrades, Ford Racing handling packs, and Ford Racing wheels and brakes
• A ’34 Ford Hot Rod, powered by Ford’s new EcoBoost engine
• Ford Racing Z427 and Z347 engines, as well as a new X302 crate engine from Ford Racing, built with a mix of Ford Racing, Ford production and high quality aftermarket parts

The Road Racing Area included:

• Championship-winning, Rehagen Racing Mustang FR500 that won the Grand-Am Koni Championship this year with driver Ken Wilden
• Paul Fassler AIZ 2010 Mustang
• Ford 6.0L engine that powered Brandon Davis to the Speed World Challenge championship from his Mustang GT
• Newly re-done Kent engine block for Formula Ford racing

In the Circle Track Area, Ford Racing introduced the S374 Series Sealed Racing Engine line, factory engineered and tested to take sealed engine racing to new levels of performance.

The S374 Series represents an industry-first in circle track racing with an OEM engineered and developed sealed racing engine with two power levels—540 hp and 590 hp

The Sealed Racing Engines address the objective to manage the cost of Short Track asphalt and dirt racing with sealed spec engines while maintaining a high level of competition for racers and fans.

Both engines were developed in conjunction with the key asphalt and dirt track stakeholders in short track racing and both will be in competition early in 2010.

Ford also announced that championship-contending Joey Pole Racing is switching to Ford power for the American Canadian Tour.

Joey Pole Polewarczyk Jr., who won twice and finished fourth in 2009, is switching to a Ford Fusion for 2010, from a Chevrolet, and will use the S347JR Ford Racing Sealed engine in his run for the ACT Championship.

Ford Racing also announced it will be offering the widest selection of Sealed Racing Engines for short track racing—Blue Oval Sealed Racing Engines—that range from 350 to 590 HP.

The Blue Oval Sealed Racing Engines address the objective to manage the cost of Short Track asphalt and dirt racing with sealed spec engines while maintaining a high level of competition for racers and fans.

What makes the Ford Racing sealed engines different from the competition is that these are designed, developed and tested from the start to be racing engines.

Additionally, Ford Racing also expanded its short track racer contingency program for 2010, to include:

• PASS—Pro All Star Series—North and South
• ACT—American Canadian Tour
• CRA—Championship Racing Association
• UARA—United Auto Racing Association
• ASALMS—ASA Late Model Series
• WISSOTA
• NASRA—National All Star Racing Association

In the Drag Racing area, Ford Racing showed the new 2010 Mustang body designed by Don Ness and used by Cunningham Racing.

Plus, it showed the new Ford Pro Stock engine, engineered by legendary Ford Racing engine guru Mose Nowland.

The new engine is based around two cylinder head derivatives, one featuring a mirror-image port layout, and another featuring a sequential port layout. Both of those configurations were on display at PRI.

Ford Racing also showed off many of the components needed to complete a Pro Stock engine as well, including valve covers, camshaft spools, crankshaft seal retainers, stud kits, head gaskets, and cam drive.

On the Sportsman front, Ford Racing announced that the NHRA has officially approved five engine combinations for the 2010 CobraJet, which will be built starting in January at the Mustang plant in Flat Rock, Mich.

• There will be an all-aluminum, 500hp 5.4L DOHC supercharged for Super Stock only
• A 435hp 5.4L DOHC supercharged, and 3 naturally aspirated derivatives, including two small block offerings, a 352cid and a 428cid.
• Finally, there will be a 4.6L 3-valve that features many street/strip performance parts found in the Ford Racing catalog.

These engine combinations allow the Cobra Jet to be competitive in 52 different Stock Eliminator and Super Stock classes.
