Doiron Ready For Shot At Mason-Dixon Meltdown 200

BERWICK, Maine – Joey Doiron of Berwick, Maine, hopes to finally cash in with a fast race car when he competes in the PASS National Series Mason-Dixon Meltdown 200 at Concord Speedway in Concord, N.C., on Saturday, November 26.

 

Doiron finished 10th in the final 2011 PASS North Series standings and collected the series' Hard Luck Award at the season-ending banquet earlier this month. It was a testament to the misfortune, mechanical and otherwise, that plagued the driver of the No. 73 JBJ Machine Chevrolet this year.

 

“I think a race like this definitely can set you up for next season,” said Doiron, who has made two career PASS South Series starts in his career. “It can keep your momentum going. After (the season finale at) Oxford, I just want to get back to race track. That was really disappointing. We ran so well there.

 

“I want to go out and get a finish we deserve. We were a top-five car every week in the second half of the season, but something always seemed to happen to us.”

 

Doiron will make his Concord Speedway debut this weekend. Practice will be held Friday afternoon, with time trials shortly after noon on Saturday, followed by the Mason-Dixon Meltdown 200 at approximately 2:15 p.m.

 

Doiron will tow to North Carolina with the team of D.J. Shaw. He knows little about the track beyond what he's learned from a racing simulator this fall.

 

“I've been playing it on iRacing, which hopefully is realistic enough that I can get something from it,” Doiron said. “It looks like it's a rhythm track. You've really got to keep your momentum up, but it's easy to make mistakes there, too. It's going to be one of the more demanding tracks I've been on.

 

“The biggest thing is going to be the speed. I've never raced on a track this fast. Other than North Wilkesboro, I haven't been on a track like this. You've got to figure out how to keep your momentum, keep your speed, but be able to pass cars at the same time.”

 

Doiron finished 20th in the 2009 Mason-Dixon Meltdown at South Boston Speedway following the conclusion of his rookie year on the ACT-sanctioned Late Model tour. It was just his third career Super Late Model start at the time.

 

Since then, he's posted 12 career Top-10 finishes in just 24 starts.

 

With no points on the line this weekend and a car that's been completely rebuilt over the last two months, Doiron says he has nothing to lose this weekend.

 

“We're bringing basically the car we ran a couple of times, but since Chaudiere it's been all redone,” Doiron said. “Other than the color, there's pretty much nothing the same on it. We're going to go out, shake it down for next year, try and keep the fenders on it – and if we come away with a Top-10, it would be a successful day.

 

“We're going down there with nothing to lose.”

ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards - Releases Full Schedule for 60th Anniversary Season

(TOLEDO, Ohio) - The Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) has released the 2012 schedule for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards. Twenty events - up from 19 in 2011 - will comprise the diverse combination of speedways, short tracks, dirt tracks, and a road course in the series' 60th Anniversary Season.

 

"Each of the venues on the 2012 schedule is very important to the identity and industry position of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards," said ARCA president Ron Drager. "The geographic coverage represented by the markets we'll be racing in and the overall number of races are good fits for the series."

 

In the ARCA Racing Series' 49th consecutive February Speedweeks appearance, Daytona International Speedway will host the season-opening Lucas Oil Slick Mist 200 on Saturday, February 18. The race will precede that evening's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Budweiser Shootout at the 2.5-mile superspeedway.

 

The 2012 ARCA Racing Series schedule will conclude with the series' championship event at Kansas Speedway on Friday, October 19. In between, the series will appear in 18 other races at a wide variety of venues, setting the most versatile schedule in motorsports.

 

ARCA's first visit to Mobile International Speedway in Alabama will be the season's second race on Saturday, March 10. Another new track - Minnesota's Elko Speedway - appears on the ARCA schedule for the first time, with a race on Saturday, June 2. The ARCA Racing Series has never raced in Minnesota, adding significance to the June visit to Elko and establishing the North Star State as the 29th visited by ARCA's premier national tour since 1953.

 

Toledo Speedway - ARCA's home track - will host the series on Sunday, May 20.

 

ARCA Racing Series teams will compete in July at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis over the Brickyard 400 weekend, following ARCA's 2011 return to the track for the first time in 26 years. The exact date of the race will be determined shortly.

 

Additional short tracks returning to the ARCA Racing Series schedule include Salem (Ind.) Speedway on two weekends, Winchester (Ind.) Speedway, Iowa Speedway, Berlin (Mich.) Raceway, and Madison (Wis.) International Speedway.

 

Talladega Superspeedway will host its 50th ARCA Racing Series race on Friday, May 4, and Pocono Raceway will host two race dates for the 25th consecutive year, in June and August. Additional speedway events scheduled to return in 2012 include races at Michigan International Speedway and Chicagoland Speedway.

 

Contributing to the long-recognized diversity of the ARCA schedule will be the traditional mile dirt races in August at the Illinois State Fairgrounds and in September at the DuQuoin (Ill.) State Fairgrounds. Road course racing is in the plan for the fifth consecutive year, as the 2.25-mile Thunderbolt Raceway at New Jersey Motorsports Park will host ARCA on the first day of July.

 

Companion events in 2012 include race weekends with the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide, and Camping World Truck Series, as well as the USAC Silver Crown Series, the ARCA CRA Super Series, and the ARCA Truck Series.

The ARCA Racing Series will wrap up the 2011 season with the Championship Awards Banquet at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, Ky., near Cincinnati, on Saturday, December 10.

 

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards featured 19 events at 16 tracks on its 2011 schedule. The series has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 28 states since its inception. In 2011, the series has tested the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, visiting tracks ranging from 0.4 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as a left- and right-turn road course.

 

Founded by John Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Closing in on completing its sixth decade after hundreds of thousands of miles of racing, ARCA administers over 100 race events each season in two professional touring series and local weekly events.

Winners Announced For Prestigious Awards In NASCAR Regional Touring Series

 

            DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 22, 2011) – There was a record turnout this year as fans made their selection for the Most Popular Driver Awards in each of the six NASCAR regional touring series.

The Most Popular Driver Award winners for 2011 are:

·         Chase Elliott, NASCAR K&N Pro Series East

·         Moses Smith, NASCAR K&N Pro Series West

·         Jason White, NASCAR Canadian Tire Series

·         Jorge Arteaga, NASCAR Mexico Series presented by Toyota

·         Justin Bonsignore, NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour

·         Jason Myers, NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour

 

More than 136,000 votes were cast in the balloting, which opened in mid-July and ended on Monday. It was more than double the previous high of 50,743 in 2008, the first year the Most Popular Driver voting was conducted online. This marked the first year in which voters were able to see the totals after they voted.

“The growing fan base of NASCAR’s regional touring series is reflected in this year’s record voting for the Most Popular Driver Awards,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president, regional and touring series. “It’s great to have the fans directly involved in the selection process for this prestigious award.”

Elliott, son of 16-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Most Popular Driver Bill Elliott, led the way with a record vote total. The second-generation driver from Dawsonville, Ga., is coming off his rookie season in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East – where he was the first 15-year-old to compete in the series.

Smith of Tempe, Ariz., coming off a career-best third-place finish in the championship standings, won his fourth consecutive Most Popular Driver title in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West.

Third in the balloting among the regional touring series was the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour, where Myers took the Most Popular Driver Award. The Walnut Cove, N.C., driver is tied for the most career starts in the tour.

For Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y., his selection as this year’s Most Popular Driver in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour caps a season in which the 2010 Rookie of the Year scored his first career win.

The Most Popular Driver title in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series went to White, a former professional speed skier from Sun Peaks, B.C., who finished eighth in the 2011 championship standings.

Arteaga took the Most Popular Driver Award in the NASCAR Mexico Series. The 20,000 votes cast nearly tripled its previous high turnout, and was second highest among the regional touring series.

The Most Popular Driver Award winners will be recognized at the NASCAR Night of Champions Touring Awards Gala on Dec. 10 at the Charlotte (N.C.) Convention Center's Crown Ballroom in the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

NASCAR Announces 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Schedule

A Return To Rockingham, Two Trips To Iowa Short Track Highlight 18th Season

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 21, 2011) – NASCAR announced today the 2012 schedule for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, highlighted by the sport’s return to historic Rockingham Speedway for the first time since 2004 and a number of familiar venues known for the typically intense battles among the tough trucks.

 

“The 2012 schedule has a great mix of tracks that will continue to deliver great racing for our fans," said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR senior vice president of racing operations. "We're excited to bring the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series to the famed Rockingham Speedway, along with the addition of a second date at Iowa Speedway. Looking ahead, interest in the truck series continues to grow in a number of different markets and we’re excited about what the future holds for next season and beyond.”

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will race at Rockingham for the first time in its 17-year history, marking the first time the 1.017-mile track will host a NASCAR national series race since February of 2004.

 

Next season’s schedule, which features 22 races, opens with the traditional Daytona International Speedway Friday night bout, on Feb. 24. The championship will once again be decided at the season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 16.

 

With a nod to the sport’s – and the series’ – roots, the trucks will race on short tracks five times, at three different tracks, next season. Martinsville Speedway hosts the first short-track event, on March 31, with a return engagement on Oct. 27.

 

Iowa Speedway, the popular 7/8th-mile short track, also hosts two NASCAR Camping World Truck events next season – on July 14 and Sept. 15. Bristol Motor Speedway’s high banks will hold its traditional Wednesday night show, on Aug. 22.

 

For the third consecutive season, the series will race at the 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway triangle for its fast 50-lapper.

Tony Stewart Wins 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship

With “Walk-Off Win,” Stewart Takes Third Title At Homestead

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 20, 2011) – Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Tony Stewart went from all-time great to legend, capturing his third career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship in grand fashion – a number that places him among a short list of historic NASCAR figures.

 

With a victory in Sunday’s Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Stewart became the seventh champion to win the season finale in his championship season. He out-dueled runner-up Carl Edwards in a finale befitting a championship showdown, tying Edwards in points – but winning the championship on a tiebreaker. Stewart’s five wins bested Edwards’ one, clinching the title for Stewart.

 

Stewart won his first championship in 2002 and second in 2005. The Indiana native now joins David Pearson, Lee Petty, Darrell Waltrip and Cale Yarborough – all NASCAR Hall of Fame members or inductees – as three-time champions. Nine drivers in NASCAR Sprint Cup history have won three or more championships.

 

Stewart entered the season-ending race trailing Edwards by three points. It marked the second consecutive season and fourth time since the inception of the position-based points system in 1975 the champion has overcome a points deficit entering the final race.

 

Stewart, co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing with Gene Haas, is the first driver-owner to claim the championship since Alan Kulwicki in 1992. The 2011 season is the organization’s third under its current ownership.

 

Stewart failed to win a race during the 26-race regular season. But he quickly caught fire, winning the first two races of the Chase, at Chicagoland Speedway and New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He ultimately won five times – twice on consecutive weekends – to break the record for most Chase wins in a single season. Stewart has won 11 times in Chase history, second only to Jimmie Johnson’s 20.

 

Entering Sunday’s season finale, Stewart had led the points just twice in 2011, ironically after Edwards’ only victory in Las Vegas and following the fall race at New Hampshire. He finished the year with 44 career victories, tied for 15th on the all-time wins list.

 

Those wins wound up trumping Edwards’ consistency during both the regular season and the playoffs. Stewart’s nine top-five and 19 top-10 finishes trailed Edwards, however, the series-high five wins ultimately were the decisive factor in the championship’s outcome.

Banquets de l'ACT - Une somme de plus de 100,000 dollars sera distribuée

(Waterbury,VT)—L’American Canadian Tour annonce que les meilleures équipes de la série américaine de l’ACT, la série ACT-Castrol ainsi que celles de la piste Thunder Road International Speedway recevront plus de 100,000 dollars du fonds de points lors des banquets qui auront lieu en Décembre 2011 pour Thunder Road et le 21 janvier à Burlington pour ceux de la série ACT-Castrol et la série américaine de l’ACT.

 

 Parmi les plus méritants, Rick Paya, le propriétaire de la voiture de Brian Hoar ainsi que Patrick Laperle de St-Denis-sur-Richelieu, recevront chacun un chèque de 10,000 dollars pour leur exploits. Dans leur championnat respectif, ils ont participé à toutes les épreuves au calendrier. À noter que pour Laperle, il s’agissait de son deuxième titre dans la série ACT-Castrol.

 

Outre le montant du fonds de points, l’ACT a tenu à préciser qu’en 2011, un montant de 739,277.00 avait été distribué dans les deux séries ainsi qu’à Thunder Road.

 

Retour à Sanair

Il y a quelques jours, l’American Canadian Tour a dévoilé le calendrier de la série ACT-Castrol qui comptera 12 épreuves québécoises comptant pour le titre et en plus, le prestigieux Showdown du 8 septembre prochain qui regroupera comme à l’accoutumée, les meilleurs des deux séries au classement à cette date.

 

Il a également été constaté que l’ACT fera un retour à la piste Sanair à la demande des frères Jean et Guillaume Bergeron. La dernière présence de l’ACT sur le triovale de Sanair remonte à 2006. Il s’agissait d’une épreuve conjointe avec la série Nationale Castrol. Pour l’ACT, le gagnant avait été Ben Rowe alors que pour le groupe de Donald Forté, avec sa quatrième place au cumulatif, Donald Theetge avait été déclaré le gagnant de la série québécoise.

 

A noter qu’en 2005, Marc-André Cliche de Vallée-Jonction l’avait emporté à cet endroit.

 

En terminant, rappelons que le banquet conjoint de la série ACT-Castrol et le l’American Canadian Tour aura lieu le 21 janvier 2012 à l’hôtel Doubletree Inn à Burlington au Vermont.

ACT TEAMS WILL RECEIVE OVER $100,000 IN POINT FUND AWARDS

        Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour (ACT) announced today that the top teams of the US-based ACT Tour, the Quebec based ACT Castrol Series, and Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl will receive in excess of $100,000 in championship point fund awards at the season-ending ACT banquets to be held in December, 2011 and January, 2012.

 

Highest money earners are car owners Rick Paya from the ACT US Tour and Patrick Laperle from the ACT Castrol Series. They will each receive year-end point fund checks of $10,000.00. Both teams ran the full twelve (12) race series in their respective areas.

 

Brian Hoar, now a record-setting eight (8) time ACT Champion from Williston, VT brought home the championship to Paya’s RPM team, and Patrick Laperle, driving for his family team located in St. Denis, QC, was a second time ACT Castrol Series Champion.

 

Ford Racing contributed $11,000.00 to those teams who elected to race the ACT-approved Ford crate engine in 2011. Ten of the 17 Ford teams registered with ACT collected Ford Blue Oval Challenge point fund money. Wayne Helliwell, Jr. won for the title for the second straight year. Team owner, Bruce Bernhardt, from Hudson, NH, will collect the $5,000.00 point check, along with the Blue Oval Challenge Cup, at the upcoming ACT Banquet of Champions.

 

ACT will pay out over $20,000.00 on behalf of those competitors that participated at Thunder Road in 2011. Over the 15-event battle for the ‘King of the Road’ championship, Montpelier, VT’s David Pembroke narrowly beat out former multi-time champion Phil Scott and “Irish” John Donahue, from Graniteville, VT. Pembroke will earn point fund money of $5,000.00 for his 2011 effort.

 

In addition to the $101,720.00 to be paid in point fund money, a record amount of combined purse money was paid to ACT Late Model teams in 2011. There was $739,277.00 paid in purse money to the two ACT series and ACT managed Thunder Road.
