Calgary (Alberta), le 27 mai 2012.- Déjà vainqueurs du Rallye Perce-Neige en ouverture de saison, le Québécois Antoine L'Estage (de St-Jean-sur-Richelieu) et sa co-pilote Nathalie Richard (d'Halifax, NS) ont remporté ce week-end la deuxième étape du Championnat canadien des Rallyes 2012 présenté par Subaru et supporté par Yokohama, le Rocky Mountain Rally, à Calgary.

CALGARY, ALBERTA, May 27, 2012 - Antoine L'Estage (St-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Que.) won the 2012 Rocky Mountain Rally, the second round of the Canadian Rally Championship, leading from start to finish to claim his fifth win at the Calgary based rally. With co-driver Nathalie Richard, L'Estage took the lead early on day one, and never relinquished the advantage on the way to victory.

En tête dès la première étape chronométrée, Antoine L'Estage et Nathalie Richard ont tout misé sur la première journée de compétition, vendredi, sur des chemins boueux, pour se forger une avance insurmontable sur leurs rivaux. Lauréats de huit des neuf spéciales du jour, ils pouvaient alors contrôler leur avance samedi, durant la seconde journée de course marquée par des conditions de route plus sèches, sous le soleil.

Derrière L'Estage/Richard dominants, la lutte pour la deuxième position a été très spectaculaire entre les Subaru Impreza WRX des équipes Subaru Rally Team Canada (Pat Richard) et Can-Jam Motorsports (Leo Urlichich). Deuxième durant la majeure partie de l'épreuve, Urlichich (de Toronto, ON) et son co-pilote irlandais Carl Williamson ont finalement vu Pat Richard (de Squamish, BC) et Alan Ockwell (de Toronto, ON) prendre l'ascendant en toute fin de rallye.

Si les routes de ce Rocky Mountain Rally n'ont guère été chanceuses pour le jeune Max Riddle (sortie de route alors qu'il était cinquième), elles ont en revanche permis au favori local Hardy Schmidtke, co-piloté par John Hall, de se mettre en valeur avec une belle quatrième place finale, devant Alexandre Kozlov et Martin Matas qui décrochent un premier "Top 5" en championnat canadien avec leur Subaru Impreza WRX. Ils devancent l'équipage vainqueur de la classe production GT, soit Eric Pehota et Richard Doucet, sur Subaru Impreza WRX.

En championnat deux roues motrices, la bataille à trois manufacturiers pour la victoire a été fort intéressante. C'est au final l'expérimenté Eric Grochowski, co-piloté par Leanne Junnila (tous deux de Calgary, AB) qui l'emportent aux commandes de leur VW, devant Kris Schofield/Jennifer Daly (Toyota) et Andrew Comrie-Picard/Brian O'Kane (Nissan Sentra).

La prochaine étape du Championnat canadien des Rallyes présenté par Subaru et supporté par Yokohama aura lieu dans un mois au Québec, lors du traditionnel Rallye de la Baie-des-Chaleurs, en Gaspésie. “It feels great, it was a perfect rally for us. We led right from the first stage,” said L'Estage, at the end of the final day of the rally. “We pushed right from the start and got a big lead, so today was just a matter of trying to pace ourselves.”

Challenging road conditions on day one saw the team excel in wet, muddy, even snowy conditions before moving to dry gravel stages for day two.

“The car was perfect, the crew was great, Nathalie was perfect. We had the right tires for each of the different conditions on this rally, and we have maximum points possible in the championship,” said L'Estage.

Winning at the Rocky Mountain Rally also allows the team to extend their lead in the Canadian Rally Championship, having also won the season opener, Rallye Perce Neige, in February.

Behind L'Estage and Richard, there were a number of battles, including that for second place. Pat Richard (Squamish, B.C.) and Alan Ockwell (Toronto) of Subaru Rally Team Canada suffered multiple setbacks on day one, but were not deterred and pushed hard to make up time on rivals Leo Urlichich (Toronto) and Carl Williamson (Wales).

“We had a good day,” said Richard at the end of the rally. “We won all the stages and we're pushing pretty hard. First stage we took ten seconds off Leo, second stage we took 12, then 15 and then 25.”

Richard was forced to push harder on each subsequent stage on the final day in order to make up for time lost on day one, when at the start of the final stage of the day, the rear differential exploded when Richard launched the car.

Though the car was able to be repaired overnight, the team awoke to find they had been assessed 45 seconds in chicane penalties.

“It was quite frustrating, because we started off the day thinking we were ahead of [Leo], but it turned out we were going to get assessed a penalty,” said Richard. “We had to big a bit deeper. It was quite an up and down day for us, but I'm happy we were able to claw back the time and win it despite of the penalties”

The second place finish means Richard and Ockwell, who failed to score points at the season opener, are now on the board in the championship standings.

“I'm still not satisfied. I come to these events to win, and we had some problems yesterday. We've got some homework to do before the next event,” said Richard.

Though Urlichich and Williamson finished third, the pair had arrived at the event hoping to find the extra speed to challenge Richard and Ockwell. Over the first day's muddy stages, they indeed found that pace, but once on the drier stages of day two, Richard was simply too fast.

“I have a massive smile on my face now,” said Urlichich. “Yesterday...I said I wanted a battle royale for this rally, and there it was. Ok, with a bit of luck on our side, and different conditions, toughness of the event, changing weather, we had a battle royale. I tried my best everywhere. There was not a stage road, or a kilometre where I said 'nah, I'll just take it easy here.'”

A two-day battle also raged for fourth place, between the Calgary based team of Eric Grochowski and Leanne Junnila and Kris Schofield (Calgary) and Jennifer Daly (Kelowna, B.C.) for the two wheel drive victory.

Grochowski and Junnila had made some improvements to their VW Golf, most notably a new, more powerful motor and carved out an early lead on the first day, until overheating problems in the evening cost all of the lead. The pair entered the second day of action four seconds behind Schofield and Daly.

However, Schofield and Daly experienced their own mechanical problems, when they broke both the brake and shock on the rear passenger corner of the car. Those were issues that, along with a deficit in power, would hamper their performance on the extremely fast Hunter Valley stages of day two.

“With the brake failure, and pretty much the whole rear passenger corner of the car – no suspension and no brakes – that probably slowed us down a little,” said Schofield.

With a fully functional car after overnight repairs, Grochowski and Junnila were able to press their power advantage to retake the lead and open up a safe margin over Schofield and Daly, winning two wheel drive.

“The car ran flawlessly today, and we pushed really hard today,” said Grochowski at the end of the rally. “I know how fast Kris is, he's fully committed all the time so we weren't sure how it was going to play out. We put time on Kris every stage. We didn't leave anything in reserve today.”

Schofield and Daly took second in class, while Andrew Comrie-Picard (Los Angeles) and Brian O'Kane (Calgary) finished third.

The victory in Production GT – a class for nearly showroom stock all wheel drive cars – was claimed by Eric Pehota and Richard Doucet of Pemberton, B.C.

The Rocky Mountain Rally is the first gravel round of the six event Canadian Rally Championship, and is made up of 13 stages, totalling 184km of competitive distance. The second round of the championship, the Rocky Mountain Rally is the first western event of the year.

“The Conditions were challenging but we were able to run every stage in the schedule,” said Keith Morison, of the organising committee. “We're looking forward to more changes and growth for the event next year.”

The Canadian Rally Championship is comprised of six events held nationwide in a season that

extends from February to November. The series is presented by Subaru Canada, supported by

Yokohama Tire Canada and features contingency programs from Subaru Canada and Mitsubishi

Canada. The Canadian Association of Rallysport (CARS) is the official sanctioning body for rallying in

Canada.

Rally car racing is often described simply as “real cars, real roads, real fast.” The all-season

motorsport sees drivers and their co-drivers take modified road cars to the limit as they achieve

blistering speeds over closed-road courses that typically cover more than 150 kilometres of gravel, dirt

or snow-covered roads. Fans can get up close to the cars in the service areas and catch all the action

from specially designated spectator points located at the best spots on the route.

Proctor, Gonyo Take Modified Twin 20s at Devil's Bowl Speedway

Proctor takes overall win; Bushey doubles up in Late Models

WEST HAVEN, VT – Defending NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stock car racing champion Ron Proctor made a statement that he’s in the running for a second title at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. The Charlton, NY veteran posted a victory and a second-place finish in twin 20-lap Bond Auto Parts Modified features at the People’s United Bank Memorial Day Special on Friday night.

Proctor’s No. 27 Timco Towing & Transportation/Charlton Oil-sponsored Teo Pro Car came from 11^th starting position to win the first 20-lap run, earning one point toward his overall total in the cumulatively scored two-segment race, beating Vince Quenneville, Jr., nephew Jamie Proctor, Cody Sargen, and rookie Joey Roberts in convincing fashion. Leon Gonyo of Chazy, NY put on a similarly impressive performance in the second segment, driving through traffic from ninth place to win, but Proctor came from 14^th to finish second. Jason Bruno, Hunter Bates, and Roberts completed the top five in the segment.

Proctor’s total score of three points was good enough for the overall victory. Georgia, VT drivers Roberts’ ten points (5^th, 5^th = 10) gave him his best finish of his young Modified career, while Gonyo’s second-segment win broke a three-way tie (11 points) with Sargen and Jamie Proctor for third place overall. Alex Bell, Quenneville, Bruno, Bates, and Andy Smith completed the unofficial overall top ten.

Craig Bushey of Fairfax, VT posted his second-straight win in the 30-lap J&S Steel Late Model feature. Rookie Johnny Chesnut made a bid for an upset win but was passed by Bryan Town, and soon after Bushey, following a mid-race restart. Town, of Charlestown, NH, ran to a runner-up showing with Rutland, VT’s Kevin Elliott third – each a career-best finish. Norm Andrews, Dan Petronis, Dave Wilcox, rookie Robert Bryant, Jr., and Matt White were next in line, followed by Chesnut, who was involved in two late incidents. Rookie Jesse Carris was tenth, unofficially.

Ryan Keith of Pittsford, VT posted his first Devil’s Bowl victory in 18 years, winning the 20-lap Renegade feature despite constant challenges from Frank Monroe. Granville, NY driver Monroe was second ahead of Leicester, VT’s Jeremy Jones. Robert Gordon and rookie Robin Cummings were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Bristol, VT rookies Josh Masterson continued an outstanding start to his career in the 20-lap Bomber feature, picking up his third win in four starts. Bobby LaVair of Gabriels, NY finished second with John McCarron of Rennselaer, NY third. Harold LaVair and Ray Germain, Jr., completed the top five.

SOIRÉE TWIN 50 + SPEED STR

Les dirigeants de l'Autodrome Granby ont tout fait pour offrir un bon spectacle malgré les prédictions météorologiques. Chapeau à Steve Salvas (remplaçant du directeur de course) qui a tout mis en œuvre afin qu'on puisse présenter le maximum d'épreuves possibles.

Dans la catégorie Modifié, Alain Boisvert a connu une soirée parfaite. L'équipe qui préparait avant la voiture 90 de Martin Roy, avait préparé une voiture parfaite et Alain a démontré ses aptitudes de pilotage pour remporter l'épreuve de 50 tours. M. Boisvert a bien commencé la soirée en remportant sa qualification, Michel Chicoine ( 97) et Christian Salvas (8) ont été les plus rapides lors de leur qualification respective. 25 voitures ont franchi le drapeau vert. Alain Boisvert a pris le départ de la 5^e position. Au 20^e passage, il surprend Steve Bernard (54) et s'empare de la position de commande. Peu après lors d'une relance, le champion défendant ' François Bernier' est impliqué dans un accrochage sur le droit arrière, il regagne les puits de ravitaillement, change le pneu avant droit et repart de l'arrière du peloton. À la mi course, Alain Boisvert devance Steve Bernard, Mario Clair (22), Claude Brouillard (3) et Gino Clair ( 22J). Martin Gagné (87) doit abandonner au 35^e passage, il tentait une belle remontée après être reparti de l'arrière du peloton au 31^e passage. 3 relances ont été nécessaires avant de connaître les élus de la soirée. Alain Boisvert a mérité les honneurs devant Kayle Robidoux (46) et Claude Brouillard (3). Le pilote de la soirée ' Kayle Robidoux' était bien heureux de s'installer sur la 2^e marche du podium, il avait pris le départ de la 16^e position. François Bernier a réussi tout un exploit, il est reparti de l'arrière du peloton au 21^e tour pour terminer en 4^e position.

Chez les Pro-Stock, 17 voitures ont pris le départ de finale qui a été écourtée de 5 tours. Dès le début de l'épreuve, des éclairs nous obligent à accélérer le déroulement de la soirée. Au 7^e passage, le champion 2010 ' Bruno Cyr' (33) prend les commandes de l'épreuve devant Jocelyn Chicoine (17) et Richard 'ti-Rouge' Bertrand (08). Lors du 17^e passage, Normand Voghell ( 3) cause le premier ralentissement de l'épreuve. Une belle lutte à la relance pour la position de commande, Jocelyn Roy (48) réussit à prendre la position de tête au 21^e passage devant Richard Bertrand et Bruno Cyr. En fin d'épreuve Kim Alex (72), une pilote recrue cette

saison dérape à quelques reprises dans la courbe 4, on doit dérouler le drapeau jaune. Au 45^e passage, la pluie s'accentue et la direction de l'Autodrome Granby est dans l'obligation de clore la soirée. Jocelyn Roy remporte sa première victoire de la saison devant François Adam (01) et Richard Bertrand ( 08). François Adam et Mario Gagnon (47) ont mérité la plus belle remontée ( + 9).

Daniel Nadeau ( 54) et Pierre ' Ti-Beu' Hébert avait été les plus rapides lors des qualifications dans la catégorie Speed StR. 20 voitures étaient présente pour cette épreuve Rev Star. La finale de 20 tours sera reprise le vendredi 29 juin. Pour ce qui est de la catégorie Sport Compact, Bruno Lafontaine a remporté l'épreuve de qualification devant Alain Tardif ( 01) et Vincent Lafontaine (95). La finale a été reportée à une date ultérieure.

- Gino Clair qui a remporté la victoire chez les Modifié vendredi le 18 mai 2005, avait remporté sa dernière victoire à l'Autodrome Granby en août 2005 alors qu'il pilotait un bolide CH Racing de Clément et Jacqueline Henri.

- Keven 'Baby Face' Beaucage ( 45 Sportsman) est maintenant associé et partenaire de l'école de pilotage Jean-Paul Cabana à Sanair.

- Alex Boisvert m'a mentionné qu'il était sur les derniers préparatifs de son bolide Modifié 95 et qu'il prévoit un retour à la compétition prochainement.

- Mathieu Boisvert ( fils d'Alain Boisvert) sera à bord de son bolide Modifié bientôt.

Il ne faut pas manquer, vendredi le premier juin, les très spectaculaires ESS Sprint 360 seront en piste pour une finale de 30 tours tout comme les Modifié. Les Sportsman et Pro-Stock s'élanceront pour une épreuve de 25 tours. Le tarif d'admission est fixé à $ 26.00 et les adolescents de moins de 18 ans seront admis gratuitement.

Allard Steals Série ACT Castrol Opener at Montmagny

Montmagny, QC – Former Serie ACT Castrol Champion Karl Allard, of St. Félicien, QC claimed the victory in the season opening event at Autodrome Montmagny in Montmagny, QC on Saturday, May 26. He had to earn it by fending off two-time and defending Série ACT Castrol Champion Patrick Laperle, and early leader Jean-François Déry who finished third.

The early part of the race was led by Jonathan Desbiens from the pole starting position until the second caution of the event on lap 9. Déry then flew to the point and dominated the race, multiple car lengths ahead of the field at times, and looked like the car to beat. Meanwhile, Allard and Laperle picked their way through the field from 13^th and 16^th respectively over the first three-quarters of the event.

A lap 75 caution brought the challenge from former champs Laperle and Allard, and Déry was outdueled by Allard for the win at the restart. David Michaud came home fourth, and former champ Donald Theetge came back from a flat tire to finish fifth. Dany Trepanier, Patrick Cliche, Desbiens, Gaetan Lauzier and Eric LeHoux completed the top ten.

A brutal wreck on lap 46 of the race demolished the hopes of rookie Etienne Cliché, who started the race from the outside pole, as well as sophomore talent Patrick Hamel when a multi car spin on a restart left their cars mangled on the front stretch. The rest of the field escaped the danger of seven cautions to complete the race in 56 minutes and 33 seconds, leaving 14 of the 23 car starting field left on the lead lap.

With his victory, Allard has earned the fourth invite to the ACT Bond Auto Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 22. He joins ACT U.S. winners Brian Hoar, Wayne Helliwell, Jr. and Ben Ashline.

LA PREMIÈRE MANCHE EST L'AFFAIRE DE KARL ALLARD

Série ACT-Castrol à l’Autodrome Montmagny

Vice-champion de la série Castrol en 2011, Karl Allard de St-Félicien n’a pas tardé à annoncer ses couleurs. Au volant de la Ford Fusion/Larue Équipement de déneigement, le Félicinois a remporté la première la première épreuve de cette série 2012, hier soir à l’Autodrome Montmagny. Il a été accompagné sur le podium d’honneur par Patrick Laperle de St-Denis-sur-Richelieu et Jean-François Déry de Québec. Pour le vainqueur, sa dernière victoire au pays de l’Oie Blanche remontait au 3 juillet 2010.

Allard qui était 13^e sur la grille de départ et Laperle 16^e ont concentré leurs efforts à remonter le peloton évitant les incidents qui se sont produits devant eux. Durant 65 passages, Jean-François Déry qui avait accepté le drapeau vert de la septième position, a mené le bal et semblait être le pilote à vaincre.

Durant ce temps, Jacques Poulin éprouvait des problèmes de train arrière et fut contraint à l’abandon après deux tours. Pour sa part, Éric Giguère de St-Georges-de-Beauce a abandonné après six passages en raison d’un moteur qui surchauffait.

Maxime Pelletier, le champion Sportsman de l’Autodrome St-Eustache, n’a été guère plus chanceux causant le deuxième ralentissement de la soirée après un dur contact avec le mur de protection dans la ligne droite avant, mais un accident impliquant plusieurs participants est survenu au 45^e tour alors que Stéphane Descostes a dérapé en raison d’une crevaison. À la reprise, la recrue Étienne Cliche a heurté le mur de protection devant le signaleur entraînant avec lui, les voitures de Stéphane Descoste, Patrick Hamel et Claude Leclerc. Seul le vétéran de Lanoraie qui en est à sa 35^e saison, a pu poursuivre sa route.

C’est lors de la septième et dernière relance au 75^e tour après le dérapage de Jonathan Bouvrette et Gaétan Gaudreault que le tout s’est joué. À ce moment, Allard avait remonté en deuxième et Laperle quatrième. Au drapeau vert, Allard a surpris Déry alors que quelques tours plus tard, ce fut au tour de Laperle d’en faire autant.

À quelques reprises Laperle s’est pointé dans le pare-chocs arrière de la Ford Fusion/Larue Équipement de Déneigement, mais ce dernier a résisté prenant un peu plus d’avance dans les dix derniers passages. David Michaud et Donald Theetge ont complété le peloton des cinq premiers. À noter qu’à la mi-course, Theetge qui était parti 17^e, a été victime d’une crevaison. Couteau entre les dents, il a réussi à remonter le peloton.

Dans cette épreuve de 100 tours, le drapeau jaune a été déployé en sept occasions. Trois pilotes, Jonathan Desbiens, Jean-François Déry et Karl Allard ont occupé le poste de commande tandis que les vainqueurs des préliminaires ont été ; Étienne Cliche, Jean-François Déry et Claude Leclerc alors que la consi a été l’affaire de Laperle.

La deuxième manche de cette série ACT-Castrol aura lieu à l’Autodrome St-Eustache, samedi prochain.
