LaJoie Claims First K&N Pro Series Victory At Bowman Gray

Takes NASCAR Hall Of Fame 150 At The Stadium

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (June 2, 2012) – Third generation racer Corey LaJoie captured his much-anticipated first NASCAR K&N Pro Series East victory Saturday night in the NASCAR Hall of Fame 150 at historic Bowman Gray Stadium.

LaJoie, from Concord, N.C., powered the No. 07 Thermal Control Products/Sims Metal Ford to the lead on the event’s first lap, but pole-sitter Kyle Larson wrestled it away the next circuit and LaJoie ran second through the first quarter of the race. The 20-year-old regained the lead on Lap 37 and held on through eight race restarts for his first trip to Victory Lane.

The second trip for NASCAR’s top development series to the famed quarter-mile saw Darrell Wallace Jr. hold on for a runner-up effort following an action-packed green-white-checkered finish. Rookie Bryan Ortiz recorded his first podium finish in third.

A first time series participant, Harrison Rhodes finished fourth with Larson in fifth. Chase Elliott, Brandon Gdovic, Ben Kennedy, Brett Moffitt and Eddie MacDonald brought home the top 10.

Elliott retained the season points lead by 16 tallies on LaJoie, who jumped from fifth to second in the standings with Saturday night’s performance. Larson is in third, 20 points out.

With the victory, LaJoie has also earned a secured starting position for the inaugural UNOH Battle At The Beach on the short track at Daytona International Speedway during 2013 Speedweeks.

The NASCAR Hall of Fame 150 was slowed by 10 cautions and one red flag.

The K&N Pro Series East will return to action on June 9 with the Slack Auto Parts 150 at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Ga.

10 pilotes canadiens en piste pour la première visite des Empire Super Sprint

De nombreux amateurs se sont rassemblés malgré la température incertaine pour accueillir les très spectaculaires bolides Ess Sprint Car. La piste a évoluée tout au long de la soirée car quelques gouttelettes sont tombées après l’intermission.

Les Pro-Stock : Deuxième victoire pour le champion défendant de la catégorie.

François Adam (#01) et Normand Voghell (#3) ont été les plus rapides lors des séances de qualification. 17 voitures étaient présentes dans les puits de ravitaillement. Bruno Cyr (#33) mène d’une main de maître la majeure parti de l’épreuve. À la mi-course Alain Brochu ( #12) fait beaucoup d’efforts pour s’emparer de la position de commande. Une chaude lutte se livre pour la troisième marche du podium entre François Adam (#01), Normand Voghell (#3) et le champion défendant ‘Jocelyn Roy’. Au 22^e passage Jocelyn Roy (#05) s’empare de la position de commande et file vers sa 2^e victoire de la saison à Granby. Il était suivi au drapeau à damier par Alain Brochu (#12) et François Adam.

Les Sportsman : 31 voitures en piste.

Dès le début de l’épreuve Keven ‘Baby Face’ Beaucage (#45) prend les commandes de l’épreuve devant Alain Mathieu (#77) et Martin Pelletier (#92). Au 2^e passage, le fin renard ‘Alain Mathieu’ s’empare de la position de commande devant Beaucage et Pelletier. Lors d’une relance plusieurs bolides sont impliqués dans un accrochage sur le droit arrière. Martin Pelletier prend la tête du peloton au 3^e passage, il avait pris le départ de la 4^e position. Yvan Rivard (#44) remonte plusieurs position, il est parti 10^e et au 16^e passage il réussi à prendre les commandes devant Martin Pelletier et Steve Bernier (#25),Keven Beaucage, Dany Gagné (#90) et Mathieu Desjardins (#1M). Une belle rivalité s’installe pour occuper les 5 premières positions. Lors du 21^e tour Martin Pelletier reprend son dû et fil vers sa première victoire de la saison. Le podium était complété par Yvan Rivard et Mathieu Desjardins.

Les Modifié : Un autre champion qui affiche ses couleurs.

23 bolides Modifié étaient en piste pour la finale de 30 tours. Bruno Lepage (#99), Yan ‘The Shark’ Bussière (#21) et Keven Bourgogne (#20) ont remporté les séances de qualification. Le champion défendant ‘François Bernier’ semble survoler la piste, il a pris le départ de la 10^e position et il réussit à prendre les commandes de l’épreuve au 8^e tour de piste. À la mi-course il est suivi de près par Alain Boisvert (#73) et David Hébert (#37). Au 18^e passage, Alain Boisvert qui avait pris le départ au 9^e rang devance Bernier , Hébert, le pilote recrue Steve Nadeau (#94) et le jeune Simon Perreault (#47). Une fin de course enlevante puisque à quelques mètres du fil d’arrivée le maskoutain ‘François Bernier réussi à devancer Alain Boisvert et David Hébert.

Les Sprint Car : Seulement 22 voitures en piste.

Le jeune Kevin Ward Jr. (#13), Jeff Cook (#10) et le sympathique pilote de St-Pie de Bagot ‘Alain Bergeron’ (#8B) ont remporté les préliminaires. Les prédictions météorologiques incertaines ont certainement dissuadé plusieurs compétiteurs, seulement 22 bolides ont pris le départ de la finale de 25 tour. Au 4^e passage Kayle Robidoux (#46) percute le mur, à la relance le Granbyen Michaël Parent (#25) est victime d’un accrochage avec le bolide #5 de Cory Sparks. Le bolide #25 au couleur de Construction Ultra tente d’éviter Sparks, il percute le pneu protecteur dans la courbe #4 et fait des tonneaux. Heureusement les deux pilotes sortent avec aucune blessure. 3 drapeaux jaunes ont été nécessaires avant de connaître le grand vainqueur de l’épreuve. Alain Bergeron s’est emparé de la 2^e position en fin d’épreuve devant Paul Kinney (#19) tandis que la première marche du podium était occupée par Justin Barger. À noter que 8 pilotes du Québec et 2 de l’Ontario ont pris le départ.

Entre le vert et le damier : voici quelques potins croqué dans les puits.

- Jasmin Léveillé ‘The 4K’ sera à bord de son beau bolide vendredi prochain avec un nouveau moteur.

- La jolie Jessika Zemken m’a confirmé qu’elle ne s’était pas présentée à cause des prévisions de météo défavorable. Elle sera parmi nous le 27 juillet 2012 à bord d’un bolide WOO 410.

- Mathieu Boisvert est anxieux de piloter son nouveau bolide Modifié, sera-t-il prêt vendredi ?

Rain Washes Out NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Qualifying

Field Set Per Rule Book For Sunday’s Race

MIRABEL, Que. (June 2, 2012) – The weather would not cooperate with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series on Saturday at Circuit ICAR. A persistent rain all morning and afternoon forced the cancellation of qualifying for the ICAR Lucas Oil Grand Prix presented by Budweiser.

The race lineup, therefore, is determined by the series rule book which gives the pole position to defending series champion Scott Steckly with D.J. Kennington alongside.

A pair of practice sessions was held earlier in the day on a wet track, but NASCAR officials cancelled qualifying due to the possibility of unequal track conditions throughout the session.

Defending race champion Robin Buck, whose car suffered some damage in a practice crash is slated to start the race from the 15th position with two-time series champion Andrew Ranger, who has 11 series road-course victories to his credit, on the outside in the 16th starting spot.

Rookie Elie Arseneau, who posted the fastest lap in practice, starts 27th in the 29-car field.

The race is scheduled to take the green flag on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. ET.

BILODEAU, LECOURS, GODBOUT ET GRONDIN FRISENT LA PERFECTION!

SS AIM QUÉBEC

Les quatorze voitures SS AIM QUÉBEC en piste à l'Autodrome Chaudière de Vallée-Jonction ont donné tout un «SHOW» lors de leur finale de 75 tours remportée par Gerry Bilodeau de La Guadeloupe au volant de sa Camaro #24, dans le cadre du Mix/Sinto Médias Beauce.

Pour mettre la main sur le quadrillé, Bilodeau a dû rester concentré tout au long de la course pour au début suivre la voiture de Tony Côté, le dépasser au 40^ième passage et surveiller ses attaques répétées surtout lors des deux relances au 70^ième tour.

Pendant ce temps toute une bataille pour la 3^ième position. D'abord entre Sébastien Mercier, abandon au 58^ième tour dû à un bris d'essieu, Rock Poulin et Michaël Lavoie et ensuite entre Poulin, Lavoie et Marco Bilodeau. Mais lors de la relance au 70^ième passage, Philippe Poulin qui surveillait l'action de près surprend Rock Poulin par l'extérieur et nous avons droit à du côte à côte très serré entre la recrue et le vétéran pour les cinq derniers tours. Philippe Poulin se voit accorder la troisième position. Rock Poulin et Sylvain Labbé complètent le «Big Five».

Tony Côté et Gerry Bilodeau avait remporté leur qualification respective, méritant ainsi les positions de tête de cette finale enlevante ponctuée de seulement trois neutralisations.

LIMITÉ COOL FM 103.5

Stéphane Lecours remporte la finale LIMITÉ après une chaude lutte avec Éric Cloutier qui doit de contenter de la deuxième position. Steve Simoneau a maintenu la cadence et termine troisième devant Yves Marcoux et Vincent Vachon A noter qu'Éric Cloutier a remporté ses deux qualifications.

Quel spectacle pour l'œil de voir ces petits bolides roulés régulièrement en double et en triples en plusieurs occasions.

Band of Brothers at Prelude To The Dream

Kurt & Kyle Busch and Austin & Ty Dillon To Compete in

All-Star Charity Race Benefitting Feed The Children

Wednesday, June 6 Presented Live by HBO Pay-Per-View®

ROSSBURG, Ohio (June 2, 2012) – The eighth annual Prelude To The Dream on Wednesday, June 6 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, will feature two races within the all-star dirt Late Model race that benefits Feed The Children

A band of brothers will wheel 2,300-pound dirt Late Model stock cars capable of putting out more than 800 horsepower around the half-mile Eldora oval. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Kurt and Kyle Busch will vie for the win and bragging rights among themselves, as will Austin and Ty Dillon, who compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, respectively.

While the brothers have raced against each other numerous times, they’ve never raced against each other in the Prelude To The Dream, where the top-10 finishers will get a tractor-trailer filled with food from Feed The Children delivered to their hometown or city of choice.

Kurt Busch’s only Prelude appearance came in 2006, and while Kyle Busch has been a Prelude regular, his first Prelude start wasn’t until 2007. Austin Dillon made his Prelude debut last year, and Ty Dillon makes his first Prelude start this year.

“Kyle has done really well in the Prelude and it’s been awhile since I’ve run it,” says Kurt, the 2004 Sprint Cup champion. “I feel like he has the upper hand, for sure, and he’s definitely going to make it tough on me to get advice.”

“Kurt’s always been a good dirt racer,” Kyle counters. “We’ve raced Dwarf cars against each other and Legends cars on dirt, and it’s always fun to race like that. It’s a charity race and it’s for a very good cause with Feed The Children, but Kurt and I are going to get after it. We both want that trophy.”

The Dillon brothers have a wealth of dirt-track experience between them. In fact, as the duo began their climb up the racing ladder, much of their racing took place on dirt.

“We love racing on dirt. Really, it’s where we got our start,” says Austin Dillon, the 2011 Truck Series champion and grandson of championship-winning NASCAR team owner Richard Childress. “We got a later start in the sport than a lot of people because we focused on stick-and-ball sports as kids. I played in the Little League World Series in 2002 and Ty was always into football, but once we tried our first race, we were hooked. Now Ty and I try to race in 25-50 dirt races a year. Shane and Sara McDowell run our dirt team, Team Dillon Racing, and they’ve been really influential in our racing development. I think Ty and I both have the same amount of experience in dirt cars.”

“We both started racing dirt about the same age,” adds Ty Dillon, currently third in Truck Series points and handily leading the rookie of the year standings. “I don’t think you could say one has more experience than the other on dirt. I remember Pop Pop (Childress) telling us when we wanted to start racing to give him a call. We saw a Bandolero race at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway and we both wanted to try it, so we called Pop Pop and he arranged a test for us and we’ve been racing ever since.”

So, who’s the better dirt-track racer among the Dillon brothers?

Ty says, “I am, of course.” And Austin, predictably, thinks otherwise. “I’m the better dirt driver,” he says.

Despite the brotherly one-upmanship, the Dillon brothers form a formidable duo on the track.

“Ty and I help each other a lot. Mainly, we push each other,” Austin says. “If I’m competing against Ty, I’m going to try harder because we have a brotherly competition. It doesn’t matter what we’re doing, we’re going to race each other and try to win.”

To get that win, the Dillon boys collaborate on setups, racing lines and anything else that will give them an advantage on the rest of the field.

“I know that if I have a question or need help with something, I can go ask Austin and he’ll help me out,” Ty says. “We both have different driving styles when it comes to dirt racing. He’s a little better in some areas, and I’m a little better in other areas. Together, we make a pretty good driver.

“We’re both really competitive and both really want to win. We’ll fight to the end to get the win, but if I can’t win, I want to see Austin do well and win. We’ll be teammates for life because we’re not only brothers, but best friends. That doesn’t stop us from chasing each other to the finish line.

“We’ve learned a lot from each other racing against one another over the years. Austin said it’s a lot of fun to race at Eldora. I’ve been watching races there for a long time. Can’t wait to finally race there.”

In terms of experience in the Prelude To The Dream, Kyle Busch leads the band of brothers and knows what to expect on the high banks of Eldora.

“The first year I remember the track was really tacky and you could move all over the place,” Kyle says. “And then it kind of glazed over and you still raced all over the place. The last couple years it’s been more single-file. You get up along the outside and it’s kind of only one-groovish. I try to make the bottom work and make up ground, but momentum is just so important around the top side, so you try to pull some slide jobs on some guys and get down low, and then slide up in their groove. Then they’ll come back and they’ll slide you in the next corner. It’s fun racing, and it’s just a part of what you’ve got to do in order to get up front.”

Kyle’s best Prelude finish is second in 2007, but he’s always been in contention, running with the leaders throughout the race.

“I’ve been close a few years,” Kyle says. “I want to win everything that I get in, and the Prelude’s been eluding me. I thought I had a chance to win it in 2007. Me, Jeff Gordon and Carl Edwards were coming to the line, all side by side. Missed out there. A couple other years have been close, and it would mean a lot to get my first win there. I’m looking forward to that day and, hopefully, it’s this year.”

To get that win, Kyle will have to outduel his brother Kurt, who despite limited experience in the Prelude To The Dream, has a strong understanding of what it takes to sling a Late Model around Eldora.

“The way that you have to have the car sideways, but still understand how to generate forward bite – it’s an art and it’s a balance,” says Kurt. “The dirt Late Models are so big, yet you have to race so close to the other cars. You do it like figure skaters would – they’re just in a pair and they run sideways through the corners. The thing I remember from the last time I was at Eldora is that you could have the right-rear (tire) rubbing the flagstand if you weren’t careful. It’s a whole different game on how you have to balance it out.

“I’m running for MasterSbilt and I feel like it’s my best attempt to go racing at Eldora and do something special. These guys at MasterSbilt have done a great job with their cars over the years and, right now, I think they’re one of the hottest teams in dirt racing.”

The 2012 edition of the Prelude To The Dream includes hot laps, qualifying, heat races and a 40-lap feature with double-file “shootout style” restarts. Tony Kanaan of the IZOD IndyCar Series will again compete against Danica Patrick, who in 2012 has made the full transition from IndyCar to NASCAR. Dirt regulars Steve Kinser and Donny Schatz, who have collectively won 24 World of Outlaws championships, will race for the first time in dirt Late Models. New participants include Patrick, Kinser, Schatz and Ty Dillon, who will join Stewart, Capps, Kenny Wallace and Kenny Schrader as drivers who have participated in every Prelude To The Dream since 2005, where Wallace was the inaugural winner.

Belle deuxième place à Granby…

Saint-Pie, QC …Alain Bergeron et son équipe n'avaient pas à faire de longues heures de route pour être en piste, puisqu'en fin de semaine, la série ESS se produit à l'Autodrome Granby et Drummond.

Second place at Granby...

Saint-Pie, QC ... Alain Bergeron and his team did not have to drive long hours to race as, this weekend, the ESS series is at Autodrome Granby and Drummond.

Hier, Vendredi, le pilote de Saint-Pie-de-Bagot et ses collègues de la série ESS étaient à Granby et Bergeron a fait plaisir à ses fans en terminant au deuxième rang lors de la finale A-Main. Huitième sur la grille de départ, Bergeron a remonté un à un ses adversaires pour terminer deuxième, tout en évitant les embuches. Avec deux tours à faire, Bergeron est passé au 2e rang mais le temps lui a manqué pour tenter de joindre le meneur.

Le québécois s'était qualifié pour la finale en remportant sa course de qualification, alors qu'il était parti du deuxième rang sur la grille de départ.

Yesterday, Friday, the Canadian driver and his colleagues of ESS series were at Autodrome Granby and Bergeron has pleased his fans by finishing in second place in the A-Main feature. Eighth on the starting grid, Bergeron passed, one by one, his rivals to finish second, while avoiding the problems. With two laps to go, Bergeron was in second place but he missed time to join the leader.

Bergeron qualified for the A-Main by winning his heat race.

Hoar beats 24-car Late Model field; Keith and Germain take wins

WEST HAVEN, VT – Ron Proctor and Brian Hoar each made a big statement on Carrara Masonry & Concrete Night presented by Mobil 1 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday night. Proctor came from 11^th starting position to grab the Bond Auto Parts Modified victory for the second week in a row, while Hoar beat the largest weekly field of J&S Steel Late Models in the track’s history.

Proctor, of Charlton, NY, scored a dominant win in the 35-lap Modified feature. The defending track champion took the lead at lap 20 and cruised out front to the win. The race ended in bizarre fashion, as Proctor had taken the white flag on the final lap just before a crash involving Paul Braymer drew the yellow flag. Because Proctor had taken the while flag as the leader under race conditions, the race was deemed official. Hunter Bates of Middlebury, VT held off a hard-charging Vince Quenneville, Jr., of Brandon, VT for the runner-up position. Jessey Mueller of Olmstedville, NY recovered from a mid-race spin to finish fourth, and Leon Gonyo of Chazy, NY was fifth.

Williston, VT driver Hoar, an eight-time American-Canadian Tour champion, posted the first NASCAR Whelen All-American Series win of his long career against a star-studded field of 24 Late Models, several of which were making a final tune-up for next week’s Vermont State Late Model Championship Series “I Am Vermont Strong 100” event. Hoar, who recently ran the Vermont City Marathon, persevered over a caution-riddled 30-lap race to outduel Devil’s Bowl point leader Craig Bushey of Fairfax, VT and Nick Sweet of Barre, VT in an exciting finish. Sweet’s teammate, Eric Chase, finished fourth with Matt White fifth, unofficially.

Ryan Keith of Pittsford, VT posted his second-straight Renegade win in a 20-lap battle with former champion Bill Duprey of Hydeville, VT. Duprey dogged Keith the entire distance and made an inside-lane bid on the final lap, but Keith held on for the win. Jeremy Jones of Leicester, VT was third for the fourth consecutive week, followed by Frank Monroe and Robert Gordon.

Ray Germain, Jr., of Bristol, VT posted his first win of the season in the 20-lap Bomber feature. Point leader Josh Masterson, also of Bristol, VT, was second. Colchester, VT’s Matt Monaghan overcame mechanical troubles in qualifying to finish third, with Bobby LaVair and John McCarron completing the unofficial top five.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is back in action on Friday, June 8 at 7:30pm with the I Am Vermont Strong 100 for the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series, plus a full card for Bond Auto Parts Modifieds, Renegades, and Bombers. General admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors (62+), and free for children 12 and under. Gates open at 6:00pm.
