Deux des favoris, Steve Côté et Maxime Pelletier qui avaient été repositionnés en arrière suite à un accrochage les impliquant ont dû se contenter d’une 4e et 5e position après avoir remonté le peloton. Pelletier a cependant été pénalisé d’une position pour un dépassement à l’intérieur des lignes blanches de la courbe #1 et c’est finalement Marc Antoine Demers qui a hérité de la 5e position suite à cette pénalité. En Sport Compacte, c’est Stéphane Langevin qui a eu le dessus sur les 25 autres participant, tandis qu’en Légendes Modifiées, c’est Sylvain Denis qui a remporté la victoire. En production, Steve Ladouceur, de Ste-Agathe a eu le dessus sur les autres participants. Et en Challenge 4, c’est un nouveau venu, Jonathan Sicotte de Mirabel qui a été vainqueur de la finale. Airborne recap June 16, 2012 SOUTH PLATTSBURGH – Todd Stone of Middlebury, Vt worked under Kris Vernold on lap 18 and led the rest of the way to earn his first Modified win of the season on NYSCOPBA night at Airborne Saturday. Stone, driving the G. Stone Motors 1X, began the night as the point leader and started 14th. Patrick Dupree, helped by the fourth and final restart on lap 21, shot past Vernold on the backstretch to claim second when green flag racing resumed, but he was unable to reel Stone in. Aaron Bartemy came up through the field after starting 25th, to finish fourth, just ahead of George Foley in fifth. Foley, a three-time feature winner got turned around on lap five and had to pit for a tire. |
The second half of the top-10 was filled by Andy Lindeman, Vince Quenneville, Mike Wells, Adam Bartemy and Chris Cayea. The third yellow came out for contact at the front between leaders Craig Reyell and Michael Viens. Their demise moved Vernold and Lindeman to the front row. At that point, Stone was running fourth and Dupree was in seventh. “My crew got the car going great after a tough start,” Stone said. “I could catch Kris (Vernold) down the straights, but he had me in the corners. I finally got under him. You’ve got to race your own race and try to be there in the end. You can’t worry about who’s behind you even if it’s the No. 24 (Dupree)”. Defending champion Robin Wood powered to his first win in the 25-lap Limited Late Model feature. He had to hold off Bucko Branham who reached his rear spoiler at the halfway mark. Granham was second, with Jamy Begor 3rd, Dave Rabtoy 4th and Brandon Atkins 5th. “We went back to our original set up after changing a lot of things to race in Canada,” Wood said. “We finally pulled it off and won one.” Joe Warren of Chazy, driving the Freihofer’s/Bud Light Lime No. 13, passed Robert Gordon for the lead on lap nine and won the Renegade feature. Gordon held off fast-closing Tylor Terry to finish second. Lance Rabtoy was fourth, followed by Don Franklin. Lonnie Rivers of Cadyville wired the field from the outside pole to claim his first Sportsman Modified win. Point leader Nick Heywood was the runner-up. Travis Bruno, Jamie LaFountain and Sebastien Fournier were next in line. Jayson Criss of Plattsburgh piloted the Monster Energy/JT Mechanical No. 54 to a win in the 15-lap Mini Modified feature. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ACT-061612 St-Croix, QC – Donald Theetge of Boischatel, QC earned his second straight Série ACT Castrol win at Circuit Riverside Speedway in St-Croix, QC on Saturday, June 16. Theetge was the class of the field all day and worked his way from the 12th starting position for the win. He held off the likes of former Castrol Champions Patrick Laperle and Karl Allard over several caution periods during the 100 lap event. It was Theetge’s 18th career Série ACT Castrol win, which keeps him atop the all-time wins list. |
Jonathan Bouvrette snatched the lead from the outside pole on the first lap, but held it only through lap 7. Laperle started in the seventh position and was running third by the completion of the first lap. He made his way to the point on lap 8 and began building a healthy lead before the first caution of the event came on lap 20. The first caution was a three minute and 30 second red flag period as the track safety workers repaired holes in the asphalt in turns one and two. After the restart, Theetge quickly knocked off the remaining competitors between himself and Laperle. Theetge took over the lead on lap 30 as Laperle dropped backward with a tire going down. The tire eventually caused Laperle to spin coming off of turn four on lap 32. Laperle would ultimately make his way back to second, but was no match for Theetge over several caution periods in the second half of the event. Allard completed the podium, while David Michaud and Patrick Cliche rounded out the top five. Steven Boissonneault, Patrick Hamel and Etienne Cliche were the only three remaining cars on the lead lap. Gaetan Lauzier and Jonathan Desbiens completed the top ten. The 100 lap event saw a total of 11 cautions including two red flag periods. One red flag was for repairs to the track on lap 20, while the second was the final caution on lap 85 which required cleanup of a multiple car accident on the front stretch. The event was completed in one hour and forty-five minutes including the combined nine minutes and thirty-seven seconds of combined red flag. Eight cars finished on the lead lap and eleven cars were on the track for the checkered flag. Theetge had already qualified for the Bond Auto ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 22. He also unofficially moves into the Série ACT Castrol point lead after point leader Jean-François Déry suffered engine problems and finished 24th. Third place point main, Dany Trepanier also had a rough day as he was involved in a hard wreck on lap 85, which ended his day but he still came home 11th. Connolly started ninth in the event and took the lead from two-time champion Jay Doerr (#43) of London on lap 96 of the 100-lap event. |
“I was loose from the get go and felt awful driving way up there [on the high side of the track],” said Connolly. “I think I stayed consistent and [the other drivers] went away. It worked to my advantage.” Connolly made special mention of her mother who was admitted to intensive care at the hospital last week. Though she is in stable condition she was not able to attend the race. The race had five lead changes between four different drivers and was slowed by caution five times. Josh Wood (#66) of London led the first 32 laps of the event before crashing out on a restart in an incident involving Jake Ott (#88) of Ayr, handing the lead to Jay Doerr (#43). Doerr would continue to lead until lap fifty when he was passed by Steve Robblee (#28) of Dorchester. Robblee would keep the lead for ten laps before Jay Doerr reclaimed the lead shortly after a restart. Doerr would continue to lead until Connolly’s late charge where she ultimately took the lead with four laps to go. Shawn McGlynn (#81) of Waterloo won the fastest time in qualifying with a 20.164 second lap time. He took the Blast Floor Coating Challenge which saw him start at the back of the twenty car field. He made his way as high as second place where he finished the race. Third in the event was Jay Doerr (#43). The Canadian Heroes race team unveiled their new Dodge Challeger race car during the pre-race ceremonies. The team ran the vehicle as a memorial to trooper Mark Wilson who was tragically killed in 2006 in Afghanistan. Wilson’s family was on hand for the unveiling of the car which was driven by Steve Moore (#45) of Toronto. Points leader Gary Adriaensen (#55) of London won the Demar Aggregates Trucks feature race on Friday at Delaware Speedway. The win is Adriaensen’s second of the season, going back-to-back from opening night last week. Adriaensen took the lead on lap fourteen from Tyler Finlay (#25) of London and held him off through a pair of late race cautions on lap 28 and 30. Finlay finished second in the 35-lap race and Tom Zagorodny (#77) of Dorchester finished third. Finlay and Zagorodny also won their heat races. Paul Fothergill came back from his practice crash at the season opener to win the Coca-Cola Super Stock 35-lap feature race on Friday night. Fothergill took the lead from Geoff Chant (#19) of Thorndale on lap 3 of the race. Second was Jeff Showler (#44) of Mt. Elgin, third was Kenny McNicol Jr. (#17) of Exeter. Previous race winner Steve Smith had been contending with Fothergill for the lead, but was forced out of the race after clutch problems. On lap 28 of the Coca-Cola Stock race fans rose from their seats during the green flag run as a tribute to Dave Lawarence (#28) Super Stock. This weekend was the anniversary of Dave’s passing. He is survived by his two sons, Kris and Jordan Lawrence who both participated in tonight’s race. Next weekend at Delaware Speedway is the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Weekend. Friday June 22 is Police, Fire, and Ambulance appreciation night featuring King of the Hill Spectator’s Races, GAW Recycling Enduro Challenge, Coca-Cola Super Stocks, and FT Garage Late Models. Bushey held off a late charge from Brent Dragon, and later Brian Hoar, to take the popular win before a packed grandstand crowd. |
Twenty-three of 29 drivers returned following the June 8 postponement to take the green flag in the “I Am Vermont Strong 100.” Fairfax, VT driver Bushey started fourth on the 23-car grid and jumped to the top spot in the early going. He battled with outside polesitter Dragon, of Milton, VT, in the early going but set a blistering pace during a 60-lap green flag run that allowed him to lap all but the top five cars. Two late caution periods bunched the field and allowed Dragon and Hoar to reel Bushey in. Bushey’s No. 05 Vermont Life Safety/Miller Auto Group Chevrolet was too strong, though, and held on for its third win in five Devil’s Bowl starts in 2012. Hoar, of Williston, VT, slipped by Dragon by a nose for the runner-up spot. Maine’s Ricky Rolfe finished fourth, with Dave Pembroke of Middlesex, VT fifth as the final car on the lead lap. The unofficial top ten was completed by Joey Becker, Phil Scott, Brooks Clark, Bryan Town, and Jamie Fisher. Alex Bell earned his first win in two years in the 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bond Auto Parts Modified feature. The Cambridge, NY youngster’s No. 23 Carmody Ford/Bell Excavating-sponsored mount came from eighth starting position to outduel defending track champion Ron Proctor of Charlton, NY for the win. The race ended under caution as a final-lap crash took out top-five drivers Jessey Mueller and Joey Roberts. Hunter Bates of Middlebury, VT finished third with Vince Quenneville, Jr., fourth and Leon Gonyo fifth. Bill Duprey of Hydeville, VT earned his first win of the season in the 15-lap Renegade shootout. The division’s defending champion won a tight race over Leicester, VT’s Jeremy Jones, who nipped Ryan Keith of Pittsford, VT at the line for the runner-up spot. Robert Gordon and Frank Monroe completed the top five. Rookie Josh Masterson of Bristol, VT made it 5-for-7 in the Bomber division, but did so only after running 20 laps in the opposite direction. The Bomber class made right-hand turns for its wacky feature event, but the Masterson was up for the challenge. Garrett Given of Cornwall, VT posted his best finish of the year in second place, followed by Gabriels, NY racer Bobby LaVair. Ray Germain, Jr., and rookie Gerald LaFlam were next in line. Brothers Gary and Gerald Grant of Addison, VT thrilled the crowd during the special Spectator Races to close the event. After making his way through two preliminary rounds, Gary Grant, a truck driver by trade, drove his 2008 Ford Mustang in a two-lap final round to defeat his brother, a police officer, who drove a 2008 Toyota Tundra pickup. Wallingford, VT’s Kelly Socia of Vermont Backroad Tours won a special match race for full-size buses, narrowly beating Devil’s Bowl Speedway official C.J. Vitagliano in the track’s Interstate Batteries-sponsored “Fun Bus.” Devil’s Bowl Speedway is back in action on Friday, June 22 at 7:30pm with “Hometown Heroes Night” presented by Whelen Engineering. Bright, sunny skies and strong car counts in all 3 regular divisions welcomed a new campaign of action at the popular 3/8th mile Fraserville, Ontario oval. |
A pair of NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model heats was first to roll from the turn 4 staging area. 2007 track champion Larry Jackson and 2011 Summer Sizzler Bryan Mercer split the 10 lap affairs. Matt Spence grabbed the Thunder Car preliminary round, while Brad Martin and 2011 rookie of the year Ryan Oosterholt shared the 8 lap Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stock qualifiers. Mercer, Spence and Martin also won their respective semi features, while Tim Cole and Daryl Fice advanced to the Late Model and Mini Stock main events with consolation round victories. The 20 lap Thunder Car feature was the first of the ‘A’ main showdowns to hit the track, with 2007 track champion Steve Mayhew and Spence occupying the front row. Any racer will tell you that sometimes it’s just your night and there was no denying Spence his first career feature win. After keeping Willie Reyns and Chad Strawn at bay during the dance’s early stages, the Bailieboro, Ontario runner stayed just a couple of car lengths ahead of a hard-charging Howie Crowe – who had started 7th – for the victory. Strawn held-on for 3rd, with Sunset Speedway regular Paul Geniole and Reyns completing the top 5. They may be called mini stocks, but there’s nothing minor about the performance of Kawartha Speedway’s entry level division. Rob Flindall and Ryan Oosterholt paced a pack of the province’s fastest 4 cylinder powerhouses to the line for the first Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stock feature of the new season. Like his Thunder Car counterpart Spence, Brad Martin – who ironically also pilots car #53 – earned a trip to victory lane. Coming from inside the second row, Martin worked lapped traffic to perfection to claim his second career win in the caution-free event. Oosterholt was second, with Flindall, Alex Lees and Michael Batchelor rounding-out the top finishers. With one of the year’s biggest paydays on the line, the 100 lap NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model feature closed-out the opening night of action. Ryan Kimball and Dave Morgan brought the field to starter Michael Edgerton’s green flag, but the caution flew early when Tyler Betts looped his #86 Impala with only 5 laps complete. Another yellow was shown for Bryan Mercer’s spin as the pack clicked-off 11 circuits. Hard contact with the front stretch retaining wall ended the night for Larry Jackson and invader Stephane DaCoste, while Owen Smith – returning to action after a 2 year layoff – hit in almost the same spot with 30 laps in the books. The late stages of the race treated the crowd to some excellent green flag action, until Bryan Watts spun exiting turn 2 as the lap counter marked 84 down. With a solid field battling for almost double the regular prize money in a show 4 times the usual distance, the final 15 laps became a winner take all shootout. A first attempt at a green-white-checkered finish came after Betts, newcomer Wally Janzen and Jamie Horner came together in the first turn. Betts and Janzen were towed from the scene, while Horner continued under her own power. Mike Wallace brought the second try at completing the 100 marathon to a premature stop as his #27 slowed just as the field was coming to the green. Leader Ryan Kimball was denied his shot at a first hometown Late Model win after spinning on the turn one apron. When the green flag flew a final time, Dave Morgan held on for the win. The track’s all-time win leader Dan McHattie was second. Mercer, Kimball and J.P. Josiasse finished in positions 3rd through 5th. Kawartha klips: It wasn’t a great night for Late Model drivers named ‘Brown’. Beeton, Ontario’s Dwight Brown developed rear-end issues during the practice rounds, while his ‘unofficial cousin’ Linc of Colborne, Ontario had his machine loaded into the trailer before the feature when the #99 car experienced engine problems and a broken panhard bar in the semi feature...The opening night Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stock field featured first-timers Brandt Graham of Orono, Ontario, Newtonville’s Greg Dunham and Port Hope’s Eric Thompson. Peterborough’s Wally Janzen took his first laps with the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models, while Mini Stock graduate Brad Lavalle saw his first Thunder Car start sidelined by mechanical gremlins...Larry Jackson had his #81 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series racer on-hand for a few test laps prior to the tour’s first oval track event – Saturday, June 16th – at the Speedway at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park...Action resumes Friday, June 22nd as the Ontario Legends Series joins a regular 3 division show. François Adam (#01) et Jocelyn Roy (#48) ont été les plus rapides lors des épreuves de qualification. À la mi-course, Richard Bertrand (#08) a causé le premier ralentissement de l’épreuve. Jocelyn Roy roulait très bien, on le voyait remonter des positions, il a pris le départ de la 9e position sur 17 voitures pour cette épreuve de 50 tours avec points de championnat. Au 39e tour, François Adam a réussi à prendre la position de commande sur Jocelyn Roy et Normand Voghell ( #3). Adam a bien géré la pression et les positions sont demeurées inchangées jusqu’au drapeau à damier. Le pilote du bolide #01 était très heureux de savourer sa deuxième victoire de la saison et conserver la première position au championnat 2012. Les Sportsman : Le Granbyen Yvan Rivard fait toute une remontée.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ACT-061612 West Haven, VT – Craig Bushey of Fairfax, VT dominated the early stages of the “I Am Vermont Strong 100” at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday, June 15. Bushey started in the 4th position and took the lead from outside pole sitter Brent Dragon on lap 10. Following the first caution with just ten laps complete, the event saw just one more caution over the next 83 circuits. |
Bushey created a sizable lead as he worked his way through heavy lapped traffic and had all but the top five in the field lapped before the third caution of the event came on lap 93. Dragon had also worked his way through the lapped traffic and reached Bushey’s bumper just before the lap 93 caution. The two appeared to be setup for a final seven lap dash to the checkers. Bushey got the jump on Dragon to take the lead again before another caution flew on lap 96, bringing eight-time and defending American Canadian Tour Champion Brian Hoar into the picture in third. Over the final four laps, Bushey had a mirror full of Dragon in the outside lane and Hoar on the inside rail. Bushey held the two off to take the win, while Hoar edge Dragon at the line for second. Ricky Rolfe and Dave Pembroke were the only other cars remaining on the lead lap to round out the top five. Joey Becker, Lt. Governor Phil Scott, Brooks Clark, Bryan Town and Jamie Fisher were all down one lap, but still managed top tens. Nick Sweet, the VT State Championship point leader coming into the event after his win at Thunder Road in the Memorial Day Classic, had a tire going down near the halfway mark. He had to pit under green and lost several laps and finished in the 19th position. Unofficially, Dragon’s third place effort appears to be enough to take over the point lead, but not far behind will be Rolfe and Clark. Several cars from the 28 car field did not make the return trip for the previously rained out event. A total of 23 cars took the green, while 17 were on the track for the checkered flag. The event was slowed by just five cautions. In a span of 14 days, Theriault has traveled from his Fort Kent home to Milwaukee, back to the race shop in western Maine, to the White Mountains of New Hampshire twice, back to the midwest for a race in Michigan and then back to the race shop in the Pine Tree State. |
The 18-year-old's racing road trip still isn't over yet with an ACT Late Model Tour race in North Woodstock, N.H., this weekend, but Theriault is holding up just fine. The Brad Keselowski Racing development driver has competed in a pair of marquee midweek Super Late Model events during the busy stretch – and though the final results might not have been what Theriault wanted, he does feel like he's taking steps in the right direction. “It's about getting better every time. You're learning every time out,” said Theriault, who finished 18th in the Howie Lettow Memorial 150 at Milwaukee Mile on June 12 and then 13th in the Rowdy 251 at Berlin Raceway on June 19. “You're racing against some top-notch teams, and you have to learn how to race with them. You have to learn how to race differently, how to pass differently. I have a good foundation with ACT racing and it's gotten me really far, but right now we're trying to get that extra little bit out. “That's what I've been getting more comfortable with – trying to get more out of the car, giving better feedback to (crew chief Gary Crooks), and just trying to work better as a team.” At Milwaukee, Theriault qualified 28th in a field of 72 cars for the ASA Midwest Tour event. He overcame two flat tires in the event and a lengthy pit stop to change an alternator and battery in the BKR No. 29 Checkered Flag Foundation Dodge to finish in the top half of the field. At Berlin, Theriault was closing in on the Top-10 after starting 20th in the 30-car CRA Super Series field when trouble found him. He was racing on the inside of another car when that car bounced off the wall and into Theriault's No. 29 – knocking the toe out of the car and prompting a broken rear trailing arm a few laps later. Theriault, who posted Top-10 finishes – including a career-best finish of fifth in the Papa John's 100 at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Fla., in April – in each of his first three Super Late Model starts this season with BKR, is looking at the big picture. “The results, I guess, have been average – but they haven't been very reflective of what the team is capable of,” Theriault said. “That kind of bugs me a little bit. I came out of (the Rowdy 251 at Berlin Raceway) kind of disappointed. We struggled right off the green flag, and me and Gary both knew when they put the green flag out that we'd kind of ventured off on the wrong path as far as the setup and all of that. “We haven't reached the potential of what we're capable of. Then again, we haven't had the chance with some of the bad luck we've had.” Theriault returns to the BKR No. 29 on July 4 for the World Crown 300 at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Ga. It's where Theriault made his first career Super Late Model start last November. The event has been moved this year from its traditional late-autumn date. He's hoping that his familiarity with the track and the cars will serve as a springboard to a strong second half of the 2012 season with BKR. “Every time we race (with BKR), it's a huge learning experience for me,” Theriault said. “The tracks are different than what we're used to racing on with the ACT Tour. The communication's different because there's so much more you can do on the Super Late Models during the races. “And there's also so much more competition – it's like we've been racing at the Oxford 250 every week, every time I go down there. They've all been big shows, shows that bring a lot of good cars and teams.
