WEST HAVEN, VT – Rising stock car racing star Jessey Mueller posted his second NASCAR Whelen All-American Series victory of the season in the Bond Auto Parts Modified division on Whelen Engineering “Hometown Heroes” Night at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday, June 22.  The 17 year-old from Olmstedville, NY had a convincing drive from eighth starting position to take the lead from Jamie Proctor at the halfway point, then drove away to the win in the 35-lap main event.

 

Mueller had suffered through tough luck and crashes in recent weeks but credited the victory to his family-based team.

“My dad and my mom pour everything into this race car with their Mueller & Sons Heavy Duty Towing business, and this whole team has been working hard.  It feels great to win again for them,” Mueller said in victory lane.

Vince Quenneville, Jr., of Brandon, VT had a similarly impressive drive through traffic from his tenth starting position to score the runner-up finish.  Schuylerville, NY driver Proctor had his best run of the year in third place; Proctor made a breathtaking move on the outside lane from fourth place into the lead on the opening lap that left fans cheering.  Leon Gonyo and Alex Bell completed the unofficial top five.

Craig Bushey continued his outstanding season in the J&S Steel Late Model division, winning for the fourth time in the last five events.  Bushey drove from ninth place to the lead and never looked back.  Kevin Elliott of Rutland, VT posted a career-best second-place finish despite late side-by-side contact with early leader Danny Sullivan that sent Sullivan spinning.  Bryan Town of Charlestown, NH was third, with Boomer Morris and rookie Robert Bryant, Jr., each posting career-best finishes in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Bill Duprey of Hydeville, VT made it back-to-back wins in the Renegade division in a two-segment race.  Duprey won the first 10-lap segment to score one point, then finished second to Robert Gordon in the second leg for a total score of three points.  Gordon, of Milton, VT, finished third and first for four total points, good enough for the runner-up spot.  Jeremy Jones of Leicester, VT was third overall with five points.

Bristol, VT’s Ray Germain, Jr., inherited his second Bomber win of the season following post-race technical inspection.  Josh Masterson and Bobby LaVair, who originally crossed the finish line in first and second place, respectively, were each penalized to the rear of the finishing order for having more than the maximum allowable right-front wheel camber.  John McCarron of Rennselaer, NY moved up to second place with Jake Noble of Benson, VT third.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway is back in action on Friday, June 29 at 7:30pm as Interstate All Battery Center of Rutland, VT presents a full card for NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bond Auto Parts Modifieds, J&S Steel Late Models, Renegades, and Bombers, plus the first 4&6-cylinder Enduro race of the season.  Rules and entry blanks for the Enduro are available online at www.devilsbowlspeedwayvt.com.  Regular general admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors (62+), and free for children 12 and under.  Gates open at 5:00pm, racing starts at 7:30pm.

Kawartha Speedway 2012: Fast Times at Fraserville High

History will show it was a stretch with a little bit of everything.  Students finishing assignments and writing exams before heading into their summer vacation during a week that featured record-setting temperatures and high humidity.  Then – Friday, June 22nd – a racecar driver nicknamed ‘Old School’ earned his first feature win of 2012 at Kawartha Speedway.  Even though the books were being put away clearly, class was in session.

 

2002 Thunder Car champion Ryan Kimball and last season’s Summer Sizzler winner Bryan Mercer took the checkered flag for a tour of the 3/8th mile oval following their NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model qualifying heat wins.  Willie Reyns claimed the opening round of Thunder Car action, with youngster Michael Batchelor earning the same honours in the Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stocks.  Semi feature victories belonged to Dwight Brown, Matt Spence and Daryl Fice in the Late Models, Thunder Cars and Mini Stocks respectively.  Mike Wallace won the Late Model consolation round.

 

The night’s first main event was a 20 lap affair for the Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stocks, as Daryl Fice and Danny Benedict brought the field to the green flag.  Although Kawartha’s entry level division’s features are usually run caution free, a rare yellow flag was displayed early when Alex Lees coasted to a stop in the second turn.  Once the #07 machine was cleared from the track, it was smooth sailing for the remaining distance as Fice wheeled an unpainted ride he jokingly referred to as ‘Frankenstein’ to his first win of the year.  The young racer – who began his time at the track as an inexperienced 15 year-old – was followed across the line by last week’s winner Brad Martin, 2011 rookie of the year Ryan Oosterholt, Peterborough high school teacher Rob Flindall and Danny Benedict.

 

Thunder Car action was next to the line, with Chad Gruntz – at the controls of Donny Beatty’s #40 machine – and Dan Price occupying the front row.  Price broke from the blocks early and gave his retro #09 beast the ride of its life, leading more than the first half of the event.  While Price – who has yet to enjoy a main event win – was savouring his time at the front, all eyes were on Willie Reyns.  The 2008 and 2010 track champion started on the outside of the 3rd row and had his #87 Monte Carlo pasted to Price’s rear bumper through the late stages of the 20 lapper.  When the leader drifted high coming off the 4th turn, Reyns drove through an open door to take the win.  Matt Spence, Jamie Wagar and 2007 track champion Steve Mayhew completed the top 5.

 

Close to 20 NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models rolled-off the staging area for a 25 lap main event that brought the night to a close.  An early yellow for a second turn incident involving Bryan Watts, Tyler Betts and Scott Harrison was the only time the track’s headline class saw the caution flag during the fast-paced feature.  Multi-time champion Dan McHattie – the track’s all-time win leader – put another notch in his belt with his first 2012 trip to the winner’s circle.  The veteran racer – who still crafts his own cars on the family farm at Cavan, Ontario – saw Bryan Mercer, Larry Jackson, Ryan Kimball and Dwight Brown in his rear-view mirror as he crossed the line.

 

Kawartha klips:  Matt Haufe grabbed the Ontario Legends Series win. It was the 4th Kawartha victory in 5 starts for the 20 year-old, who thanked his ‘old man’ during the post race interview...Scarborough’s Scott Harrison – who won the first late model feature of the year during the 2011 season at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park – made his Kawartha late model debut...Danny Benedict – who at 15 years of age already has 3 seasons behind the wheel of a racecar – earned a runner-up finish in a Pure Stock invitational Saturday, June 23rd at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.  It was the first time he’d raced on the half-mile oval that sits 15 minutes from his front door...Kawartha Speedway takes a week off before returning to battle Friday, July 6th with the running of the 9th annual NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model Summer Sizzler.  The 150 lap marathon – run in 3 segments – is the most prestigious late model event in the province and pays $3000.00 to win...For details on the 2012 schedule and the latest news, see www.kawarthaspeedway.com.

Trois-Rivieres, June 24th, 2012 – Behind the wheel of the n°47 WeatherTech Canada/ Bellemare Dodge, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin claimed the 10th position. A top-10 defended with tenacity throughout the array of complications that multiplied yesterday on the Delaware Speedway, Ontario.

 

 

En plus d’être ponctué de difficultés d’enregistrement des temps lors des qualifications et d’un arrêt complet de la course au 155e tour (drapeau rouge), ce deuxième ovale de la saison, en Série NASCAR Canadian Tire, fut empreint d’un trafic dense générant action et conduite agressive tout au long de l’épreuve (34/200 tours effectués sur drapeau jaune).

 

Au-delà de l’accumulation de points pour le championnat, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin a dépassé l’objectif fixé de terminer la course. Des ennuis de transmission et de radio ont notamment complexifié les communications puis, à deux reprises, le Québécois a su éviter avec stratégie les incidents qui sont survenus devant la voiture n°47 WeatherTech Canada/ Bellemare (14e position au départ de la course).

 

« La transmission de la voiture n°47 WeatherTech.ca/Groupe Bellemare est restée coincée en quatrième vitesse presque toute la course. Les accrochages et les difficultés de communication radio ont été également des défis supplémentaires à relever », partage Louis-Philippe Dumoulin.

 

Cinquième au championnat, derrière trois vainqueurs et un vice-champion de la série, la recrue de l’année 2011 en série NASCAR Canadian Tire est satisfait d’être allé au-delà des embûches rencontrées.

In addition to being punctuated by numerous drawbacks during the qualifying session with timing registration problems and a complete halting of the race during lap no. 155 (red flag), this 2012 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series second oval was action filled with aggressive driving for its duration (34/200 laps on yellow flags).  

 

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin exceeded his objective of finishing the race and accumulate additional points for the championship. Transmission and radio equipment problems also made the race more complex. The Quebecer had to strategically avoid two incidents that occurred in front of the n°47 WeatherTech Canada/ Bellemare (14th position on the starting grid).

« The n°47 WeatherTech.ca/Groupe Bellemare cars’ transmission remained stuck in fourth gear for the majority of the race; collisions and radio communication issues were additional difficulties to manage », shares Louis-Philippe Dumoulin.

 

Fifth in the championship following three winners and one Series’ champion, the 2011 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Rookie of the Year is satisfied of having surpassed the obstacles faced.

Wayne Helliwell, Jr. Scores Second ACT Win at White Mountain

North Woodstock, NH – Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Dover, NH dominated the White Mountain 150 at White Mountain Motorsports Park on Saturday, June 23 for his second career American Canadian Tour win. Helliwell led all 150 laps after starting on the pole and won uncontested.

 

Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. won a hard fought battle for the runner-up position, beating Eric Chase who completed the podium. Austin Theriault and Brian Hoar completed the top five after swapping paint several time over the final laps. Ray Parent, Brent Dragon, Jimmy Hebert, Ricky Rolfe, and Randy Potter rounded out the top ten.

Helliwell crushed the field, lapping all but the top eleven cars. The 150 lap event was completed in one hour and five minutes with eight cautions. Twenty-two of the thirty-one cars that took the green flag were on the track for the checkers.

It was Helliwell’s second career ACT win and his second win in three events. It will keep him atop the point standings just ahead of Polewarczyk who claimed his second straight runner-up finish and his fourth top five in the first five events.

Helliwell already qualified for the Bond Auto ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 22 with his Spring Green win at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in May. Other qualifiers to date include, Brian Hoar, Ben Ashline, Karl Allard, Donald Theetge and Nick Sweet.

The American Canadian Tour Late Model teams have the next month before heading to Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for the sixth event on the ten event 2012 ACT schedule on Saturday, July 28. Many ACT teams will head to Oxford Plains Speedway on Sunday, July 22 for the Oxford 250.

Kennington Rings Up Back-To-Back NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Wins

Third Victory In Four Tries At Home Track

 

DELAWARE, Ont. (June 23, 2012) – D.J. Kennington took advantage of some misfortune by J.R. Fitzpatrick and went to Victory Lane for the second time in as many weeks as he won the EMCO 200 presented by Niagara Plumbing Supply and McKeough Supply in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series action on Saturday at Delaware Speedway.

 

Kennington, out of St. Thomas, Ont., assumed the race lead on Lap 158 when Fitzpatrick had to make an unscheduled pit stop due to a problem with his brakes after the race was red flagged when the frontstretch lights went out. Kennington led a race-high 99 laps after starting the race from the pole position in his No. 17 Castrol Edge/Mahindra Tractors Dodge. It was his second win of the 2012 season, 13th of his series career, and his third victory in four starts at his home track.

Defending series champion Scott Steckly overcame some early problems to finish second while Jason Hathaway came home in third. Two-time series champion Andrew Ranger finished fourth followed by Pete Shepherd III in the fifth position.

Jason White, Mark Dilley, Joey McColm, Noel Dowler and Louis-Philippe Dumoulin completed the top 10 while Fitzpatrick was relegated to a 14th-place finish.

The race was slowed due to caution four times for 34 laps and the race lead changed hands four times among three drivers.

In the championship point standings, Kennington took over the top spot from Fitzpatrick, who fell to third. Ranger occupies second place – 13 points in back of the leader.

The EMCO 200 presented by Niagara Plumbing Supply and McKeough Supply will premiere on TSN on Sunday, July 8 at 3 p.m. ET and on RDS2 on Wednesday, July 25 at 10 p.m. ET.

The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series embarks on its three-race swing though Western Canada on Saturday, July 14 for the A&W Cruisin’ The Dub 300 at Motoplex Speedway and Event Park in Vernon, B.C.

Brad Martin Paces Kawartha Speedway's Mini Stock Pack

Racecar drivers never stop.  They’re always thinking, planning and in some cases, even scheming.  The search to get the most out of their own equipment and be better than the rest of the field never ends.

 

Plainville, Ontario’s Brad Martin – a competitor in Kawartha Speedway’s Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stock division – finished 4th in the entry level division’s 2011 point standings.  His first career win – in a 50 lap invitational event – also helped him earn the most improved driver honour at the season ending award’s banquet. Friday, June 15th the 25 year-old took his first step toward claiming the 2012 track championship with a stellar performance in the Fraserville, Ontario oval’s first night of action.  Martin steered his #53 Bio 2000 Pressure Wash/JJ Stewart Chrysler/DeMille Photography/Canadian Industrial Services/Spintech Custom Welding/Mayhew Graphics/Kawartha Metals/Extreme Motorsports/ Bailey’s Automotive/Gray Mechanical/Rhino’s Roadhouse Dodge Neon to a win in his heat race, semi feature and 20 lap main events.

 

“My Dad, the crew and I did a lot of work on the car over the winter and having a night like this so early in the year makes it all worthwhile,” said Martin in victory lane.  “That was probably the most fun I’ve ever had in a racecar and the best part is that we’ll get to do it all again next week.  Usually, there are some sleepless nights leading up to the next week’s race, but I think everyone on the entire team will be pumped-up for quite a long time.”

 

Brad Martin’s quest for a repeat performance takes to the track Friday, June 22nd when Kawartha Speedway hosts their second night of action for the 2012 season.  The Ontario Legends Series will join a regular night of racing featuring the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models, Thunder Cars and the Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stocks.  Gates open at 3:00, with rotating practice sessions getting underway at 5:00.  The night’s first green flag is at 7:00.

Matt Spence Dominates Kawartha Speedway's Thunder Car Action

Sometimes, a plan just comes together.

 

Even though this year’s first night of racing at Kawartha Speedway was delayed by 2 weeks, there was no holding back Matt Spence.  Wheeling the #53 Chevy Monte Carlo Durham Furnace Heating and Cooling/Graphic Lettering Services/Sellmunity Thunder Car – owned by Ajax, Ontario’s Dave Landles – the young speedster won his qualifying heat, semi-feature and the 20 lap main event Friday, June 15th.  Spence says it was an unbelievable night.

 

“I can’t believe how well the car performed,” said Spence.  “Getting my first feature win would’ve been great, but earning a checkered flag every time we took to the track is a once in a lifetime experience.  I’m just the lucky guy who gets to drive the car.  Most of the credit belongs to Dave and the crew.  They really did their homework and the long hours in the shop are what put me in victory lane.”

Mechanical Gremlins Sideline Linc Brown's 2012 Kawartha Speedway Debut

Choosing to get back into the game after an absence of about 3 years, Linc Brown knew things were bound to have changed.  The NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Model field at Kawartha Speedway is one of the most competitive in the province, but the 46 year-old from Colborne, Ontario vowed to do everything possible to keep pace.  First on the agenda was putting together a marketing plan, then it was time to get his 2012 Dodge Charger ready for action.

 

“I was excited about the start of the 2012 season and the rainout June 1st was a double-edged sword.  First, there was the disappointment that comes with not finally being back at the track.  But, it also gave us some extra time to go over the car,” said Brown. “It always amazes me at how quickly the time seems to go by.  Maybe its part of getting older, but it didn’t seem like 2 weeks had passed before we were rolling the car into the trailer and heading to the track.”

 

After the night’s practice sessions wrapped-up, it was finally time to strap-in for battle.  Scheduled to start outside the front row in the show’s second qualifying heat, Brown wheeled the #99 Kawartha Metals/Rousseau Automobile Communications/The Wolf 101.5/Don Butt Auto Body/Mayhew Graphics/Clarke Motorsports Communications machine to a solid runner-up finish and advanced to the semi feature.  That’s where his night took an unfortunate turn.  Coming down the backstretch, the car mysteriously lost power and while sitting prone on the racetrack – with another 8 cars charging toward him – he was hit from behind.

 

“I stuck my hand out the window and tried waving my arm to warn the others, but there just wasn’t time.  It all happened so fast, I didn’t even know who’d hit me until just a few minutes ago,” admitted Brown while relaxing after the 100 lap Late Model feature.  “Both ends of the car slapped the concrete and the contact with the wall broke the panhard bar, but a broken shaft on the distributor is what started the ball rolling.”

 

Not just frustrated by having to watch the first main event of the year from the grandstands – instead of contending for the win – Linc Brown was forced to take a damaged racecar to Mark’s Work Wearhouse in Peterborough the next day for the Five Counties Charity Barbecue, presented by The Wolf 101.5.  There is also a chance he may have to miss the second week of action at the Fraserville, Ontario oval.  The engine will need to be taken apart to check for any foreign matter that might be floating around inside and  because of the hard hit, the team will be checking for damage to the right-rear hub and a possible bent axle tube.  They’ll look for potential issues with the suspension parts and steering components and giving the piece a general once-over before making any decisions about heading to the track.  Brown says he’d like to get some laps on the car before the (July 6th) Summer Sizzler.

 

“It’s certainly not the way I expected the season would start, but this sport is all about something called ‘racing luck’ and things could have just as easily worked the other way,” conceded Brown.  “It’s not a long season, but the main point now is to stay positive.  I’m sure the team has the experience and ability to bounce back from a tough start.”

ACT Point Battle Resumes

Eager Competitors Head to White Mountain Motorsports Park

Waterbury, VT -- The most competitive battle in the Northeast continues with the American Canadian Tour stock cars this coming Saturday, June 23 at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, NH. Dover, NH’s Wayne Helliwell, Jr. leads the field by a 2-point margin in search of his first ACT Championship at a track where he finished a stout third in 2011, but his title hopes are under attack from ACT’s biggest stars.

 

Hudson, NH’s Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., who rides second on the Tour, is focused on the point lead, but with only a nine point cushion over third place point man Brian Hoar he cannot afford even the slightest mistake. After a disappointing finish last time out, eight-time and defending ACT champion Hoar looks to bounce back at White Mountain Motorsports Park where he claimed victory in 2010.

 

Lancaster, NH’s Quinny Welch will expect some better luck at “The Park”, where he is a multi-time and defending champion of the weekly Late Model series. Welch has been disappointed by mechanical failures for much of 2012 on the American Canadian Tour, but has put the pressure on himself to perform at the track he calls home.

 

“We’ve really been building up to this race at White Mountain,” explained Welch. “I’ve been racing there the last three weekends to try to get tuned for this race, and I just know I won’t be satisfied with anything less than a win here.”

 

Young sensation Austin Theriault will focus on extending a hot start to 2012 and a sixth place finish in this event last year to take a shot at the point lead himself. Fifth place veteran Randy Potter will look to improve on his runner-up finish in 2011 to jump into the top group of championship contenders.

 

All the action begins this Saturday, June 23rd at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, NH. Post time is 5:00pm.

Steve Bernard survole le circuit de l'Autodrome Drummond et impose le rythme de la saison 2012.

Sans aucun doute, Steve Bernard #54 a donné une leçon de pilotage aux coureurs Modifié 358 en menant de fil en fil l’épreuve de 100 tours. Parti du deuxième rang, Bernard s’est accaparé du poste de commande dès le deuxième virage pour ne plus jamais le céder par la suite. Le bolide #54 a prit un tour d’avance sur 20 compétiteurs pour ne laisser que quatre voitures sur le tour du meneur. Au fil d’arrivée, celui-ci a été suivi de David Hébert #1 et de Yan Bussière #21. Plus tôt en soirée, Mario Clair #22 avait été le plus rapide lors des essais chronométrés avec un temps de 17.805 secondes. Lors des qualifications, Mario Clair #22 et David Hébert #1 avait été cherché des victoires.

DILLEY DEBUTS; FINISHES 2ND IN PARTSOURCE/BDI/LELAND FORD FUSION

June 17, 2012, Bowmanville, ON:  Mark Dilley made his 2012 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season debut on Saturday night at the Speedway at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park and managed a convincing 2nd place finish.

 

Dilley who shares the driving duties in the #02 PartSource/BDI/Leland Industries Ford with veteran racer Kerry Micks made his debut at the first oval track event of the 2012 season.  Micks will drive the #02 in the road course events while Dilley will be the pilot for the seven oval events on the 2012 schedule.

 

The #02 car was to Dilley’s liking right out of the trailer as he posted the eighth quickest time in practice. 

The team made several changes to get it faster for qualifying and the Ford driver posted the seventh quickest time to start the Clarington 200.

Dilley would quickly move into the top five at the drop of the green for the 200 lap event.  After pitting for fuel on lap 62 and making a minor adjustment, Dilley was very happy with the car. Another pit stop on lap 161 had the team replacing right side tires and the #02 car was set to go to the finish.  Dilley would run with the leader Kennington but in the end had nothing for him and crossed the finish line in second.

 

An enthusiastic Dilley said after the race “This car just handles so well.  We tested here a few weeks ago and I knew it was going to be strong today.  I can’t thank my team, the guys in the shop – and Kerry (Micks) for putting this great car together for me.  We are excited to go to Delaware next week and go for the win. And I have to thank all of our sponsors – so many of them were here tonight including PartSource, Leland, BDI , Johnsonville and Cathcart Trucking.”

 

Dilley will again be behind the wheel of the #02 Ford Fusion when they make their way to Delaware Speedway next Saturday June 23 for event #4 of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule.

 

The Clarington 200 will air on TSN on Saturday June 23 at 1 p.m.
