Statistical Advance: Analyzing The A&W Cruisin' The Dub 300 At Motoplex Speedway

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 10, 2012) – The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 embarks on its three-race swing through Western Canada with the A&W Cruisin’ The Dub 300 at Motoplex Speedway and Event Park in Vernon, B.C., on Saturday, July 14 at 8:15 p.m. PT. Below is a statistical look at the recent performance of the series and selected drivers at Motoplex, as well as some other statistical trends:

 

 

Motoplex Speedway Race Setup

·         Scott Steckly has recorded the last two wins at Motoplex Speedway and has not finished worse than second in his five starts there.

·         D.J. Kennington has led a total of 331 laps in the last two editions of the A&W Cruisin’ The Dub 300, but finished second on both occasions.

·         At 150 miles, the Motoplex Speedway event is the longest race of the season.

·         Kennington and Steckly have combined for 10 top-five finishes in 10 starts at the British Columbia track.

·         There are two father/son duos – Kevin and Noel Dowler and Trevor and Ryley Seibert – and one brother combination – Jason and Jim White – in the event.

·         All three series car manufacturers have won at Motoplex – Chevrolet (2), Dodge (2) and Ford (1).

 

NASCAR Canadian Tire Series At Motoplex Speedway

·         This is the series’ sixth time to compete on the half-mile tri-oval.

·         The race’s television premier is scheduled for Saturday, July 22 at 5 p.m. ET on TSN and Saturday, Aug. 11 at 7:30 p.m. ET on RDS2.

·         Vernon, B.C., is the westernmost event on the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series schedule.

·         The track was known as SunValley Speedway through the 2009 season.

·         At 150 miles, the A&W Cruisin’ The Dub 300 is the longest race of the season.

·         Is one of three 300-lap events on the schedule this year joining Barrie (Ont.) Speedway and Riverside International Speedway in Antigonish, N.S.

·         In the previous five races at the track, there has been an average of 7.8 caution periods for 66.2 laps with earliest coming at Lap 3 last season and the latest at Lap 296 in 2009.

·         In four races at Motoplex, the average finishing position for the polesitter is 3.4 and the average starting position for the race winner is 2.6.

Cote and McGrail rule at Airborne

Airborne Speedway recap Sat Jul 7

SOUTH PLATTSBURGH – Steve Cote of Ile Bizard QC held off Maxime Pelletier and Bucko Branham to win the Furniture World of VT USA/Canada Masters Late Model 50-lap main event Saturday.

 

Cote had a sizeable lead evaporate when the race was red-flagged for a seven-car wreck with 10 laps to go. Pelletier was alongside Cote for the restart, but couldn’t keep pace.

 

 

Branham’s third-place run was a valiant comeback from an early incident that put him at the rear of the field. He had won his qualifying heat, but pulled a redraw number that set him 12th on the grid. One lap later he was turned around by Martin Lacombe, but he passed 24 cars to finish third.

 

Fourth went to Jamy Begor of Mooers, who was strong throughout. Martin Goulet of Mascouche, QC was fifth. Robin Wood, who also had to race back up through the field from the rear after contact with Shawn Duquette, gained four positions in the closing laps to claim sixth. Positions 7-10 went to Jim Bushey, Duquette, Keith Pelkey and Marc Antoine Demers.

 

“This was a long race for me with the 50 laps on the half-mile and the restarts and red flag,” Cote said, “but I had a strong car and it was a good win.”

 

Cote is the Series point leader, two points better than Pelletier and 19 points ahead of Goulet. Begor is next, 22 points shy of the top spot.

 

Pat McGrail of Candiac, QC kept his hot streak going with a decisive win in the Culligan Water/TDI Repair Modified 30-lap feature. Counting a Modified Series win in Lancaster, NY, McGrail has won his last three starts, including two in a row at Airborne.

 

McGrail stalked early leader Pierre Berthiaume for several laps before taking the lead after restart on lap 12. As McGrail drew away, Berthiaume, Aaron Bartemy, Vince Quenneville and Adam Bartemy diced for second. A half a lap after contact with Aaron Bartemy, which landed Bartemy a two-spot penalty on a subsequent restart, Berthiaume and Adam Bartemy collided in turn one knocking Adam Bartemy out of the race.

 

Quenneville, Patrick Dupree Chris Cayea and Todd Stone benefitted but Aaron Bartemy rallied back to finish third at Quenneville’s bumper. Dupree and Cayea finished 4-5. Leon Gonyo and point leader Todd Stone stuck to Cayea to place 6th and 7th. Andy Heywood advanced the most positions having started 22nd and finishing 10th.

 

Jason McClatchie ran away with Renegade feature in the Dee’s Pit Stop/TDI Repair No. 70. It was win number three for the Plattsburgh driver. Rick Doner outlasted point leader Kevin Boutin for third. Joe Warren and Lance Rabtoy were next in line.

 

Josh LeClaire of Plattsburgh won the Busch Mini Modified feature, topping Erick Sayles, Josh LaPorte, Eric Reyell and John Bradley.

 

Jessey Meuller lost an apparent Sportsman Modified win for having run the wrong tire. Jason Branham, Sebastien Fournier and Travis Bruno wound up 1-2-3.

A SECOND PLACE FINISH FOR JEAN-FRANCOIS DUMOULIN AT TREMBLANT

CANADIAN TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP

 

Trois-Rivieres, July 8th, 2012 – Jean-Francois Dumoulin made the best of his n°33 Honda Fit this weekend at the Circuit Mount Tremblant Summer Classics. Taking the second place in the eighth round of the Canadian Touring Car Championship B-Spec Category.

 

 

Parti en troisième position de la première course du week-end samedi (7 juillet), Jean-François Dumoulin a tôt fait de se positionner avantageusement se plaçant en seconde place dès le deuxième tour. Dépassé par un rival au tour suivant, le pilote d’expérience a maintenu sa position jusqu’à l’arrivée.

 

L’instructeur de pilotage a encore mieux fait dimanche (8 juillet) en passant en position de tête dès le premier tour. Il a ensuite dû céder sa place pour s’installer en seconde position. Il gagne la chaude lutte pour cette position, passant le fil d’arrivée tout juste derrière le vainqueur.

 

« La qualification et les courses se sont bien déroulées, j'aurais aimé faire mieux dans la première course et avoir un peu plus de temps dans la deuxième pour me rapprocher de la position de tête. Mais globalement je suis très satisfait du weekend, la Honda Fit #33 de Lombardi Racing se comportait très bien et nous n'avons pas eu de problème mécanique majeur », partage le Québécois.

 

Le pilote de l’Équipe de course Dumoulin Compétition sera de la 43e édition du Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières dans la série NASCAR Canadian Tire à bord de la - Dodge Avenger # 04 Bernier Crépeau/Bellemare. Même série, même classe, même équipe, des discussions sont en cours quant à la participation de Jean-François Dumoulin en CTCC au GP3R (3, 4 et 5 août prochains). Tous les détails ci-dessous.

Starting from third position in the first race of the weekend on Saturday (July 7th), Jean-Francois Dumoulin placed himself in second position by lap 2. Overtaken by a rival on the following lap, the experienced driver maintained his position until crossing the finish line.

 

The experienced driving instructor had a successful race on Sunday (July 8th), leading immediately after the green flag. He then had to release this position, and settle for the second place. Crossing the finish line closely behind the winner.

 

« The qualifications and races went well, I would have preferred better results in the first race and a little more time in the second to catch up to the leader. Overall I am very satisfied with this weekend, the n°33 Honda Fit of Lombardi Racing was handling very well and did not experience major mechanical problems », shares the Quebecer.

 

The Dumoulin Competition team’s pilot will be at the 43rd edition of the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series behind the wheel of the – n° 04 Dodge Avenger Benrier Crepeau/Bellemare. Dragon slays PASS field at Beech Ridge

First PASS win for second generation racer - Darveau wires PASS Mod main

Scarborough ME (7/7) Scott Dragon drove by Kelly Moore on lap 113 of Saturday night's PASS North Southern Maine Motors.com 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and checked out to earn his first career PASS super late model victory. Trevor Sanborn made a successful return to Beech Ridge, finishing second . Kirk Thibeau finished third despite an electrical issue that dropped him back in the field on several occasions. Moore hung on for fourth and Cassius Clark raced home in the fifth position.

 

It looked like it might be Moore's night much of the way in a race that was short on cautions and long on great battles throughout the field. Bill Rodgers led the first sixteen laps before Moore took over and the veteran stayed out front for nearly two thirds of the laps. But the torrid pace seemed to take a toll on his ride. DJ Shaw challenged Moore for the first hundred laps until Dragon took up the challenge, making his move on Shaw on a restart. Fifteen laps later the was out front, delivering the first PASS win for the team.

 

Point leader Travis Benjamin had a less than stellar run, finishing 19th one lap down. It was Johnny Clark's night to share in the good luck, finishing sixth despite a myriad of pit stops to improve his handling and a late race tangle that knocked the tail of his ride.

 

Dragon's victory margin was .852 seconds and twelve of the thirty starters finished on the lead lap. Three minor cautions slowed the pace.

 

Bill Rodgers, Alan Tardiff and Kelly Moore were the heat race winners; Johnny Clark qualified via a consolation round win.

 

In PASS Mod action Poncho Darveau wired the 40 lap feature from green to checker for his first win in Pro All Stars Series competition. Mark Lundblad Jr. had a strong run in second and Alan Wilson raced to a solid third. Ryan Phillips and Mike Carignan completed the top five. Darveau and Carignan earned heat race wins.

 

The PASS North super late model teams are back in action Thursday July 12 at Thompson (CT) International Speedway; qualifying races get underway at 6:00 PM.

JEAN-FRANÇOIS DÉRY RENOUE AVEC LA VICTOIRE

Cinquième manche de la série ACT-Castrol

 

 

Jean-François Déry de Québec, au volant de sa Toyota Camry/Giguère Portes et Fenêtres, a renoué avec le cercle des vainqueurs, lors du St-Eustache 100, samedi soir à  l’Autodrome St-Eustache. Déry n’avait triomphé dans cette série AST-Castrol depuis le 30 mai 2009 à l’Autodrome Montmagny. Il s’agissait de son cinquième succès dans ce championnat. Sylvain Lacombe de Terrebonne et Patrick Laperle de St-Denis-sur-Richelieu ont suivi le vainqueur à la ligne d’arrivée.

 

Le trio que l’on surnomme «infernal», c’est-à-dire Allard-Laperle et Theetge ont connu des mésaventures dans cette course qui s’est jouée dans les derniers 20 passages. Tôt dans la course, Karl Allard a du visiter ses équipiers au 16e passage, victime d’un problème de fuite d’huile. Il a perdu 13 tours avant de revenir en piste, éliminant ainsi toutes ses chances. Il a terminé en seizième position.

 

Puis au 79e passage, Laperle qui menait allègrement le bal depuis le 34e tour, est allé dans les puits sous le drapeau jaune. Un boyau de son réservoir à essence traînait sur la piste. A ce moment, Donald Theetge qui était deuxième depuis le 43e passage profita de la générosité de Laperle pour prendre la commande.

 

Son règne fut cependant de courte durée, car cinq tours plus tard, il était déstabilisé en raison d’un contact par Déry qui en profita pour prendre la commande et ne jamais plus regarder vers l’arrière. David Michaud qui est toujours parmi les meneurs, a pris la quatrième place devant Dany Trépanier de St-Edouard-de-Lotbinière qui encore une fois, a offert une solide performance.

 

Après la course dans les puits, il est certain que Theetge n’était pas content de la tournure des événements. « Le 21 m’a spinné. Il reste encore sept autres courses. La voiture est bossée à l’arrière ce qui prouve le contact» de dire ce dernier. «Ils lui ont donné la victoire, c’est un vol en plein jour». Theetge a terminé sixième.

 

Pour sa part, le vainqueur attribuait l’incident comme il y en arrive très souvent en stock-car, une discipline où les contacts sont nombreux alors que Laperle qui avait vu sa deuxième d’affilée s’éclipser, a blâmé le conducteur qui l’avait frappé à l’arrière forçant ainsi sa visite imprévue dans les puits.

 

Plusieurs pilotes étaient absents de cette épreuve qui a été ponctué de neuf drapeaux jaunes. Les vainqueurs des préliminaires ont été Jonathan Bouvrette et Déry.

 

La prochaine épreuve de cette série ACT-Castrol aura lieu au circuit Ste-Croix/Riverside Speedway, samedi prochain.

Victoires de Déry (ACT), Laliberté (Vintage), Caron (Légende Modifiée) et Charron (Challenge 4)

Ce samedi soir à l’Autodrome St-Eustache

 

Lors de la soirée du 7 juillet à l’Autodrome St-Eustache, les amateurs présents ont pu assister à la victoire de Jean-François Déry, suivi sur le podium par Sylvain Lacombe et Patrick Laperle, lors de l’épreuve de 100 tours de la série ACT CASTROL tandis Jocelyn Laliberté a remporté une brillante victoire dans la Série Vintage.

Les dirigeants de ces deux séries publieront un compte-rendu plus détaillé au cours des prochaines heures,

 


 

Deux catégories de l’ANCA faisaient partie de cette soirée.

 

En Légendes Modifiées, c’est Stéphane Caron, de Laval (99) qui a remporté sa première finale de la saison devant Stéphane Aubin, de Boisbriand (26) et Sylvain Denis (71) de St-Léonard de Portneuf. Ce dernier, ainsi que Neal Leblond (88) de Buckingham, Qc ont été les gagnants des préliminaires.

 

En Challenge 4, Marime Charron,  le #43 de Brownsburg a remporté la finale de 25 tours devant Mathieu Latreille de St-Eustache et Steve Vernier, de Crabtree, Qc. Martin Marullo, de Mirabel et Maxime Charron avaient remporté les préliminaires.

 

Deux catégories à l’extérieur.

Les pilotes de la division Sportsman disputaient une épreuve aux Etats-Unis dans le cadre de la série MASTERS Sportsman Canada USA à la piste de Airborne, à Plattsburgh. Nos pilotes québécois nous ont fait honneur alors que Steve Côté, le l’Ile Bizard a remporté la victoire, suivi de  Maxime Pelletier de Mascouche. Les américains Bucko Granham (20) et Jamie Begor (19) ont suivi en 3e et 4e position, tandis que le jeune Martin Goulet jr de Mascouche a complété de premier groupe de 5. Les préliminaires ont été remportées par Jamie Begor (19), Bucko Branham (20) et Maxime Pelletier (66).

 

Grâce à sa performance de la soirée, c’est maintenant Steve Côté qui occupe maintenant la têre des deux championnats Sportsman, soit la Série MASTERS Canada USA et le championnat local de l’ANCA à l’Autodrome St-Eustache.

 

Les Sport Compactes, quant à eux, étaient à Montmagny pour y disputer la première épreuve de la triple Couronne Bestbuy qui a été remportée par le pilote de la voiture 75 de Québec, Steve Godbout, suivi de Dominic Jacques, le #7 de Vallée Jonction. Trois pilotes locaux de l’ANCA, Jason Morand, le 59 de Ste-Marthe-sur-le-lac, Maxime Latendresse #47 de Mirabel, et l’autre Marthelaquois Patrick Boucher #96 ont complété le premier groupe de 5 sur les 32 pilotes présents. Les préliminaires ont été remportées par Steven Godbout, Dominic Jacques et Robin Harrisson qui pilotait la voiture #13 de Lyne Valiquette

 

Le prochain programme de stock car présenté à l’Autodrome St-Eustache aura lieu le 21 juillet prochain. Les pilotes Sportsman de l’ASE affronteront les américains de la piste Airborne lors de la 4e manche de la Série MASTERS Canada USA, tandis que les 4 autres classes locales compléteront le programme.

Dery Wins in Dramatic Fashion at Autodrome St-Eustache

St-Eustache, QC – Quebec City’s Jean-Francois Dery found redemption with a huge victory at Autodrome St-Eustache in St-Eustache, QC on Saturday, July 7.  Dery had to fend off a challenge from former Serie ACT Castrol Champion Sylvain Lacombe, as well as a late-race charge from defending champion Patrick Laperle in third.

 

St. Jean Chrysostome’s Patrick Cliche took the early lead from veteran racer Claude Leclerc on lap ten of the 100 lap event, and dominated the next 23 circuits before defending champion Laperle was brought to his outside on a lap 33 caution flag.  Laperle surged ahead of the field on the restart, looking well on his way to his second win in a row on the Serie ACT Castrol, but on lap 79 of the event Laperle had a fuel filler hose come loose and was forced to head down pit road.

Point leader Donald Theetge inherited the lead for the next five laps, until a heart breaking spin on lap 85 of the event during a hard fought battle with Dery for the win.  Dery, after losing the point lead two weeks ago due to a rock coming through his radiator, vindicated himself and took home the victory.

David Michaud and Dany Trepanier came home fourth and fifth respectively. Theetge recovered to finish sixth, and Patrick Cliche, Patrick Hamel, Stephane Descoste, and Jonathan Bouvrette completed the top ten.

The race had a total of nine cautions, one for a brutal accident when Terrebone, QC’s Jean-Pierre Ouimet crushed his vehicle against the turn three wall, and another when former Champion Karl Allard was losing oil and went down 13 laps. The race was completed in 59 minutes and 10 seconds.

With his victory, Dery earned the eighth invite to the Bond Auto Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 22, joining Brian Hoar, Wayne Helliwell Jr., Ben Ashline, Karl Allard, Patrick Laperle, Nick Sweet and Donald Theetge.

Serie ACT Castrol resumes next Saturday, July 14 at Riverside Speedway in St-Croix, QC for a monza style 150 lap event featuring twin 75 lap races.

Beech Ridge hosts PASS North Saturday

NAPLES ME (7/4) The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North season approaches the half way mark this Saturday July 7 at Scarborough Maine’s, Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and there are a few drivers with goose eggs in their win column that will look to The Ridge to change that statistic.

 

Topping that list is Lonnie Sommerville, defending race winner of the Southern Maine Motors.com 150. The New Brunswick racer sits fifth in the PASS point standings and finished second in the season opener so its clear he still has the touch for the Cusack family's oval. Derek Ramstrom has been oh- so close to victory and he was on the podium last time out at the Ridge. DJ Shaw is right behind Ramstrom in the standings and Shaw is a winner in Beech Ridge Pro Series competition; he's had numerous top fives when the PASS North show comes to town but a win would go a long way to put is 2012 season on track.

 

Then there's Ben Rowe, carrying a little momentum off a second place run at Canaan Fair Speedway, a race that he dominated only to loose out to Cassius Clark on the night's final restart. Rowe rarely goes this deep in the season with out a win and he'll go all out to correct that statistic Saturday night.

 

Joey Doiron scored a breakthrough victory at Beech Ridge in May and he'll be looking to double his PASS win total and start a Beech Ridge win streak of his own. Travis Benjamin will try to pad his PASS North point lead and Johnny Clark will be doing his level best to to erase it. Mike Rowe is back on track this weekend and you can never count out the master of Maine short track racing, especially at Beech Ridge.

 

The PASS Mods are on the Saturday night docket and the Mods are enjoying their most competitive season to date. Andy Shaw, Rusty Bryant and Alan Wilson have wins in the first three Mod showdowns of 2012. Shaw will try and repeat his May win but the defending Mod champ will have his work cut out for him.

Cinquième manche de la série ACT-Castrol

À L’AUTODROME ST-EUSTACHE

SERONT ÉGALEMENT DE LA PARTIE

 

En examinant le palmarès de Patrick Laperle en ce qui concerne l’Autodrome St-Eustache, il faut le considérer comme étant le grand favori pour décrocher les honneurs du Castrol 100, la cinquième manche de cette série ACT-Castrol qui se tiendra à cet endroit, samedi sous les réflecteurs.

 

 À ses deux dernières présences à ce complexe motorisé des Basses-Laurentides, Laperle a visité le cercle des vainqueurs et depuis 2007, il y cumule six victoires pour un total de dix podiums, soit quatre de plus que le Félicinois Karl Allard, mais celui-ci ne revendique qu’un seul triomphe à l’ASE depuis 2007. Présentement à la suite des problèmes vécus à Montmagny, Allard a glissé au cinquième échelon du cumulatif avec maintenant un déficit de 69 points derrière Theetge qui est toujours le meneur. Laperle qui s’est hissé en deuxième place, accuse maintenant un recul de 36 points sur le meneur.

 

Durant la même période, l’Autodrome St-Eustache s’est avéré la bête noire de Theetge.  Son meilleur résultat et par le fait même son seul podium, a été une deuxième place, tout comme Jean-François Déry qui connait un excellent début de saison avec trois résultats parmi les 5 premiers et une troisième place au cumulatif à seulement 20 points de Laperle.

 

Quant à Sylvain Lacombe de Terrebonne qui a annoncé qu’il serait de la partie, il cumule trois victoires dans cette série ACT-Castrol depuis 2007 pour un total de cinq podiums. À sa décharge, il faut comprendre qu’il n’a pas participé à toutes les confrontations et qu’il demeure toujours un adversaire redoutable. Il n’est pas dans la lutte pour le titre, mais il ne sera pas certainement en piste pour y effectuer une parade.

 

Troisième lors du St-Eustache 300 en 2011, Dany Trépanier de St-Édouard-de-Lotbinière avait réussi une solide troisième place. Il voudra profiter de son retour à cette piste pour améliorer son classement. Victime d’ennuis mécaniques lors du Montmagny 200, Trépanier en raison d’une 18e position, a glissé de la troisième à la septième position et il entend bien reprendre son ascension dès samedi.

 

Territoire connu

 

Pour plusieurs des engagés de cette série ACT-Castrol, le tracé de St-Eustache n’a plus de secret et ils devraient obtenir de bon résultats et même surprendre. C’est le cas de Stéphane Descoste qui a déjà été copropriétaire à cet endroit et qui a terminé quatrième lors du dernier St-Eustache 300, David Michaud de Ste-Anne-des-Plaines, Jonathan Bouvrette qui compte des championnats à cet endroit, tout comme Maxime Pelletier, le champion défendant de la classe Sportsman et Jean-Pierre Ouimet.

 

Parmi les autres participants qui devraient normalement bien tirer leur épingle du jeu, on remarque le vétéran Claude Leclerc qui roule toujours avec les meneurs tout comme Patrick Hamel, Patrick Cliche et quelques autres.

 

AUSSI AU PROGRAMME :

La série « Vintage Québec » sera aussi au rendez-vous avec ses répliques des stock car des années 70-80. Nul doute que le vétéran LUCIEN ROCHELEAU, qui connaît le tracé de l’Autodrome St-Eustache comme le fond de sa poche,  et qui pilote une superbe Chevelle voudra remporter une deuxième victoire d’affilée avec son #66. Pour ce qui est des classes locales, les pilotes de la division Légendes Modifiées et ceux de la division Challenge 4 / Meilleur Ramoneur compléteront cette soirée qui sera précédée du National Motos, toute la journée de samedi à compter de 10h00.

 

Pour la soirée de stock car, les puits ouvriront à 17h, les essais auront lieu à compter de 17h30, les qualifications à 18h30 et les finales à compter de 20h00.
