Analyzing The NAPA AUTOPRO 100 At Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 14, 2012) – The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 tackles the final road course of the season at Montreal’s Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in the NAPA AUTOPRO 100 on Saturday, Aug. 18. Below is a statistical look at the recent performance of the series and selected drivers at Montreal, as well as some other statistical trends:

 

Montreal Race Setup

·         Andrew Ranger has three Montreal wins in five starts with victories in 2008, 2010 and 2011. His other two efforts at the Quebec track resulted in second-place finishes.

·         Points leader D.J. Kennington has three top-five finishes in Montreal, but his last two starts at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve have resulted in finishes of 28th (2010) and 18th (2011).

·         J.R. Fitzpatrick has a start from the pole (2007), led a grand total of 42 laps, and scored a win (2009) in Montreal, but also has three finishes outside of the top 10 in five Montreal starts.

·         Kerry Micks has four career top-five and five top-10 finishes at Montreal with his worst finish being sixth in 2010.

 

NASCAR Canadian Tire Series At Circuit Gilles Villeneuve

·         This is the series’ sixth visit to the track situated on Île Notre-Dame in Montreal.

·         The NAPA AUTOPRO 100 will be telecast live by RDS beginning at 9:30 a.m. and shown in its entirety on tape-delayed basis on TSN beginning at 12:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Aug. 18.

·         The average starting field in Montreal is 33.8 cars with an average of 21 cars finishing on the lead lap.

·         In the previous five races at the track, there has been an average of 2.8 caution periods for 6.8 laps with earliest coming at Lap 2 in 2009 and the latest at Lap 22 also in 2009

·         In Montreal, the average finishing position for the polesitter is 10.8 and the average starting position for the race winner is 2.6.

·         In the previous five Montreal events, the closest margin of victory was .103 seconds as Kerry Micks edged Andrew Ranger, and the largest margin to win a race was 2.846 as Ranger outdistanced Scott Steckly.

·         Only three drivers – J.R. Fitzpatrick (42), Micks (28) and Ranger (48) – have led laps in the previous five events.

·         The preliminary entry list of 38 cars this season is the most in series history.

Ninth NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Event

 

Trois-Rivieres, August 14th, 2012 – With a strong second place finish at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin reached his primary objective, positioning himself once again in the NASCAR Canadian Tire championships’ top-5. For this last road course of the season, the Quebecer is counting on pleasing his fans and realizing another podium finish on the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve behind the wheel of the n°47 WeatherTech Canada/Bellemare Dodge on August 18th.

 

 

Suite à un accrochage lors d’une relance, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin avait terminé en dixième place l’an dernier, alors qu’il se battait dans le peloton de tête. Avec l’expérience acquise depuis trois ans et les résultats probants à ce jour (un podium, deux top-5 et trois top-10), le détenteur du titre de Recrue de l’année 2011 en série NASCAR Canadian Tire (NCATS) demeure concentré sur l’optique du championnat.

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin : invité en Nationwide par l’écurie Randy Hill Racing

 

Le Québécois a participé à sa première course dans cette série l’an dernier. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin avait franchi avec brio la ligne d’arrivée (départ 41e, arrivée 28e), et ce, malgré de multiples ennuis mécaniques et un bris de moteur lors des essais. Lors de l’épreuve du NAPA200 de Montréal, Dumoulin effectuera un « start and park » au volant de la voiture n°08 de l’équipe Randy Hill Racing. Le week-end dernier, à Watkins Glen, il a effectué quelques tours de piste. Toutefois, dès la séance d’essais, la voiture a subi des ennuis avec le système de freinage compromettant leur participation aux qualifications.

 

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin participera à la séance d’autographes des pilotes québécois lors de la « Journée découvertes » du Napa Pièce d’auto 200 présenté par Dodge de 13 à 14 heures ce jeudi 16 août.

Following a collision during a restart in last years’ race, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin finished in tenth position after having battled with the leading group. With the experience acquired over the past three years and the promising results to-date (one podium, two top-5 and three top-10), the 2011 NASCAR Canadian Tire Rookie of the Year (NCATS) remains completely focused on the championship.

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin : Invited in Nationwide with Randy Hill Racing

 

With only one active participation in the Nationwide Series as of last year, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin had skilfully crossed the finish line (starting 41st and finishing 28th) despite being faced with numerous mechanical problems and engine complications in the practice session. During Montreal’s NAPA 200 event, Dumoulin will perform a « start and park » at the wheel of Randy Hill Racings’ n°08 car. Last weekend in Watkins Glen, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin was able to complete a few laps during the practice session. However, they encountered a braking system problem compromising their participation in the qualifying session.

 

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin will be participating in the Quebec Drivers autograph session « Discovery Day » of the Napa Auto Parts 200 presented by Dodge from 1:00 to 2:00 pm this Thursday August 16th.

Sarah Cornett-Ching Gets Sixth Place Overall Finish in Gordie Mannes Memorial Event at Penticton Speedway

PENTICTON, BRITISH COLUMBIA – The month of July was a very slow month for Sarah Cornett-Ching and her race team.  It ended though with an OK Tire ARCA West Sportsman Series race at Gold Pan Speedway in Quesnel, British Columbia.  August kicked off with the annual Gordie Mannes Memorial Weekend at Penticton Speedway.

 

At the OK Tire ARCA race in Quesnel, Sarah was looking to build on their momentum from their top five finish in the previous race.  It was a very hot day at the track, but Sarah was eager to get inside the car for practice and see what adjustments were needed.  It was a tough morning practice session at the track though, as the team chased a binding issue with one of their shocks.  Going into qualifying, Sarah and the team could only hope for the best with the handling of the car an unknown due to the shock issue. 

Sarah qualified eighth out of the 13 cars on hand.  It was a disappointing run, but Sarah was optimistic that the car would be better in her qualifying heat race and she was right, as she worked her way to third after starting at the rear of the field.  The 100 lap main event started out well for Sarah, running in the top five throughout the first 50 laps.  Multiple restarts slowed the pace in the second half though, and Cornett-Ching would struggle through the final laps with a bent up car after contact from another car.  Sarah brought her Snap On Tools car home with a ninth place finish.

It is disappointing to continuously have these small issues plague us throughout these races”, says Cornett-Ching after the Quesnel event.  “All we can really do is look ahead to the next race ARCA West Sportsman Series race Agassiz Speedway in a couple weeks.  We had a good run there last year, and I look forward to going back”.

This past weekend, Sarah raced close to home in the annual Gordie Mannes Memorial at Penticton Speedway for their two-day show.  This race was not a Series race for Sarah, and feature cars from both the ARCA West Series and the ASA Advanced Testing Late Model Series.  Sarah posted the 10th fastest speed in qualifying, and finished third in her qualifying heat.  Despite an ill handling car, Sarah managed to battle her way to a seventh place finish.

“The car was just way too lose and very difficult to drive”, said Sarah after the race.  “We were able to battle back to a top ten finish, and the car is damage free, so we will take it back to the shop and try and find more speed out of it for tomorrow”.

It was a long day in the shop on Sunday before heading back to the track on Sunday night.  With only a seven minute practice session to test their adjustments that they made on the car, Sarah was hopeful that the car would be better then the previous day.  She still battled handling issues on the car, and qualified ninth in time trials.  The team continued to work on the car, and a second place finish in her heat race proved that they were heading in the right direction.  Sarah once again finished seventh, with a cumulative finish of sixth place overall to end the weekend. 

“We fought the handling issues again in qualifying and just couldn’t seem to get the car to turn through the centre of the corner”, says Cornett-Ching.  “We did make progress on the car, and it was definitely better.  We can take a lot of positives out of this, with it only being our second time here in a Late Model at this track.  We were able to make some strong outside passes, and the car is relatively unscathed.  I am really looking forward to next weekend’s race at Agassiz.  I really have to thank Midtown RV and Peerless for coming on board for this past last weekend’s race, and Snap On Tools for their continued support”.

The next race on the schedule for Sarah Cornett-Ching will be this coming Saturday night at Agassiz Speedway.  After a seventh place finish there in her first appearance in 2011, Sarah is looking forward to getting back to the track once again.  This will be the second last race on the OK Tire ARCA West Series schedule.  The final race on the tour will take place on September 8th at Motoplex Speedway in Vernon, BC.

PREMIÈRE SORTIE AU SANAIR SUPER SPEEDWAY

Québec, QC (12 août 2012) – Pour la première fois dans l'histoire de la jeune Série Sportsman Québec iSPEEDZONE les pilotes ont participé à une course sur le rapide trioval de .826 miles (1.33km).  La course de 40 tours, une présentation de DGR, faisait partie d'un ambitieux programme de stock-car mis de l'avant par les frères Jean et Guillaume BERGERON, les dirigeants du Circuit Riverside de Ste-Croix.

 

Originalement prévue sous les réflecteurs samedi soir, la pluie a forcé le report au lendemain des différentes finales. Seules les courses de qualifications (2) pour la Série Sportsman Québec iSPEEDZONE ont pu être complétées selon l'horaire prévu samedi après-midi, Alex MONTMINY de Lévis et Steve MALOUIN-MCKIBBIN de Québec en ont sorti vainqueur.

Vingt pilotes s'étaient présentés pour ce moment historique, puisqu'il s'agissait aussi d'un premier programme de course d'envergure sur cette piste depuis 2006.  Le grand absent, Simon ROUSSIN, meneur au classement avant le weekend était retenu à titre de garçon d'honneur au mariage de sa sœur.

MONTMINY et Sylvain LABBÉ se sont alignés sur la première ligne de départ.  Mais dès le premier passage, un incident impliquant Kara GUÉNETTE et Gerry BILODEAU a forcé une première neutralisation.  GUÉNETTE est revenue en piste malgré une carrosserie passablement amochée. Moins chanceux, BILODEAU, a été contraint à l'abandon.  À la relance, LABBÉ a profité des problèmes d'alimentation d'essence de MONTMINY pour prendre la tête.

Steve LESAGE de Pont-Rouge a pris le départ en 6e position n'a mis qu'une dizaine de tours pour se rendre à LABBÉ et lui ravir à son tour la position de tête.  LESAGE n'a aucunement été menacé par la suite remportant sa deuxième finale de la saison.

Jonathan CÔTÉ de St-Jean-Chrysostome continue de bien faire, il a croisé le fil en 2e place.  « J'ai manqué de temps.  Je croyais pouvoir me rendre à LESAGE, mais j'aurais eu besoin de 2 tours » déclara CÔTÉ visiblement satisfait de sa course.

Le Chicoutimien, Michaël LAVOIE, un favori avant l'épreuve n'a pu faire mieux qu'une 3e place.  « Je partais quatrième sur la grille de départ et j'avais tourné les tours les plus rapides la veille, mes attentes étaient donc très élevées et la victoire était une chose très possible » confiait LAVOIE visiblement déçu.  Dès la relance de l'épreuve, LAVOIE a dû composer avec la voiture de MONTMINY qui n'arrivait pas à prendre sa vitesse et comble de malheur les deux ont eu un contact dans la section du trioval, la plus rapide du circuit.  « Ça aurait pu être désastreux.  Alex ne roulait pas vite a descendu et m'a touché.  J'ai momentanément perdu le contrôle de la voiture et perdu, de nombreuses positions » ajouta, LAVOIE.  Une fois avoir stabilisé sa voiture LAVOIE avait reculé jusqu'au 10e rang.  Malgré qu'il avait effectué les tours les plus rapides, 30.900 secondes au tour, soit 0.40 seconde plus rapide que l'éventuel gagnant, Steve LESAGE, il a tout simplement manqué de temps.

Dany GAGNON de DGR a croisé le fil en quatrième position, après être parti 11e sur la grille de départ.  Steve MALOUIN-MCKIBBIN a terminé 5e et prend provisoirement la tête du classement.

Outre l'incident au départ, les pilotes ont été disciplinés et l'épreuve a été ralentie seulement à une autre occasion lorsque Pier-Luc LABBÉ a perdu la maîtrise de sa voiture dans la courbe No. 1.  Opportuniste, LABBÉ n'a pas frappé les murets protecteurs ou même entré en contact avec une autre voiture.  Il a terminé l'épreuve en 7e position.

La course au championnat se resserre de nouveau.

Steve MALOUIN-MCKIBBIN (1002points, 1 victoire) profite de l'absence de Simon ROUSSIN (933 points, 4 victoires) pour prendre la tête du classement iSPEEDZONE avec deux épreuves à faire au championnat 2012.  Au troisième rang vient Michaël LAVOIE (913 points, 2 victoires).  Au quatrième rang, Réjean BLANCHET (896 points) réussi à augmenter sont avance par quelques points sur Sylvain LABBÉ (893 points).

La Série Sportsman Québec iSPEEDZONE fait relâche cette semaine, laissant place à la venue de la NASCAR Nationwide dans le cadre du NAPA 200.  Les pilotes de la Série Sportsman Québec iSPEEZONE seront de retour en piste au Circuit Riverside Speedway de Ste-Croix-de-Lotbinière le 25 août prochain pour la 10e manche du championnat où seront disputées deux étapes de 35 tours, une présentation des Entreprises M.P. Roy Inc.

«SPÉCIAL SPORTSMAN SS 80»

                                               

 

L’Autodrome Chaudière de Vallée-Jonction présente vendredi le 17 août son «SPÉCIAL SPORTSMAN SS 80 et sa course des Médias BEAUCE/QUÉBEC en collaboration avec le FM 101.3 et Construction Guillaume Grondin de Ste-Marie. Les voitures SS SPORTSMAN AIM QUÉBEC sont de retour pour une finale de 80 tours avec bourse majorée. Plusieurs pilotes sont attendus pour ce spécial.

 

Philippe Poulin de St-Georges, la recrue montante et détenteur du premier rang au classement SS sera-t-il maintenir la cadence devant les Bernier, Bilodeau, Côté, Drouin,  Mercier, Poulin, St-Gelais et Cie? Est-ce que les Labbé, Lavoie, Lesage, Lessard et autres seront du programme? A eux de confirmer leur présence.

Sport Compacte,Kamikaze et Vintage

En classe Sport Compacte Bestbuy Pièces d’Autos, Dominic Jacques de Vallée-Jonction détient une mince avance d’un point sur Steve Godbout de Québec. Ces deux valeureux pilotes jouent à la chaise musicale depuis le début de saison. Autre lutte à surveiller entre les Frédérick Blanchette, Sylvain Carrier et Jacques Gaulin.

Les Kamikaze seront également de la partie et un autre commanditaire la Ferme Bertnor s’ajoute au Garage 10/10 pour des bourses de la 1ière à la 6ième position. Kamikaze, dites-le à vos amis et soyeux nombreux.

Les Vintages seront également du programme. Les employés et amis de Dominique Paquet Meubles souligneront leur 35ième anniversaire de commandite et d’amitié avec le pilote beauceron Langis Caron.

Ouverture des puits à 16H00 et début du programme à 19h30.En cas de pluie remis au samedi 18 août 18h00. Prix : Adulte : 15$/13 à 17 ans : 8$ et 12 ans et moins : gratuit.
