Pat Dupree of Saranac Lake, Airborne’s all-time Modified win leader (27), thwarted McGrail’s best chance at the crown, which was to win himself and have Stone place fourth or lower. Dupree took command on a lap 9 restart after early contender Matt Woodruff shot off the top of turn three. McGrail started 10th and finally made it to within a car-length of the leader on lap 40. One lap earlier, after a lengthy battle, Stone, driving the G. Stone Motors 1X, got underneath Pierre Berthiaume for third – a pass that sealed the deal no matter what happened at the front. On a final restart with five laps to go, Dupree quickly pulled away in the Fournier Farm Equipment/Saranac Country Store No. 24 for the win. “This time I kept the right rear on it,” Dupree said, referring to a tough loss to McGrail on the final lap a week ago. “It’s been a pretty good year after all.” Berthiaume hung on for fourth ahead of Leon Gonyo. The second half of the top-10 was Aaron Bartemy, Roger Labreche, Kris Vernold, Adam Bartemy and Richard Tisseur. It was the first Airborne crown for the Middlebury, VT driver who completed every lap of every event while winning four times – just as McGrail did. “All week I was thinking that if I couldn’t win it, it wouldn’t be bad to lose it to Pat,” Stone said. “He’s a class act and an excellent driver. I did the best I could - the right rear was all used up at the end.” McGrail started 10th, worked hard to pass Chris Cayea for 4th on lap 13, and then stayed on the throttle to battle Gonyo for three laps to move into third behind Berthiaume. Joe Warren of West Chazy carried the Renegade checkers on his sponsor’s (Freihofer’s) night. It was his third win of the year and it kept him mathematically alive in the championship battle to be decided next Sunday. Lance Rabtoy rallied late to claim the runner-up spot. Point leader Kevin Boutin of Fairfax, VT got up for third. Jason McClatchie and Mark Caron rounded out the top five. Caron, trying for his first podium finish of the season spent 20 laps in the top three. Rob Clark of Keeseville chased down Rob Sines, took the lead with two laps left and went on to win the Mini Modified feature, which earned him a recliner from race sponsor Choice Furniture. Sines finished a season’s best second, ahead of Josh LaPorte, Erick Sayles and Jim Collins. Joe Daniels of Saranac , a few weeks removed from a vicious hit into the frontstretch wall, was a first-time winner in the 20-lap Sportsman Modified feature in the Westside Auto No. 46. Jamie LaFountain drove to his ninth top-five finish of the season as the runner-up. Nick Heywood was third, followed by Travis Bruno and Eric Lauziere. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – 9.2.12 BARRE, Vt. – Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, finished fifth in the ACT Late Model Tour Labor Day Classic 200 at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., on Sunday, September 2. Theriault started 29th in the 30-car field, used pit strategy early in the race to gain track position, and then picked up two spots over the final four laps to finish in the Top-5 for the seventh time in nine ACT races this season. The Brad Keselowski Racing development driver remained the only driver on the ACT Late Model Tour to have finished in the Top-10 in all nine points races, and the AT Racing No. 57 Pelletier Ford Ford Fusion has two Top-10s in two races at Thunder Road in 2012. |

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Baltimore, MD - August 2, 2012 - Alex Tagliani and his Barracuda Racing crew earned an eighth place finish during a caution-filled race on the streets of Baltimore Sunday afternoon. The Grand Prix of Baltimore presented by SRT featured plenty of action for the fans, including nine caution flags and a constant threat of rain. Barracuda Racing pitted on lap 16 as rainclouds rolled in and precipitation became consistent. The radar showed a clearing only 11 laps later, so the team made another pit stop to switch back to slicks. A final pit-stop on lap 57 completed the team's three-stop strategy. |

Gonyaw, Pilotte Pick up Feature Wins FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ACT – 090212 Barre, VT – Eight-time Champion Brian Hoar made it clear his championship defense was far from over on Sunday afternoon at Thunder Road, claiming the clutch victory in the 34th Annual Bond Auto Labor Day Classic. Current point leader Wayne Helliwell, Jr. made him earn it, finishing a close second, and three-time Thunder Road track champion Cris Michaud rounded out the podium finishers. |
Rookie Jimmy Hebert led the way early until a lap 33 caution when Helliwell spun in turn three. Hebert retained the lead following the restart, but was overpowered by Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. on lap 54 of the event. His lead, however, was short-lived when a hard charging Brent Dragon charged from the tenth starting position to take the lead on lap 68. The strategy chess match began on lap 71, when struggling point leader Helliwell, who was on the verge of going a lap down, ducked down pit road along with Hoar, Michaud, multi-time champion Phil Scott, seven-time ACT Champion Jean Paul Cyr, and others. As the green flag laps continued, the strategies began to play out as Hoar and Helliwell sliced through the field on their way to the front. By lap 113, the pair was at the head of the pack: Hoar riding the very rim of the track and Helliwell planted firmly on the bottom. The duo had the crowd on their feet until lap 164 when a caution brought hometown favorites Scott Payea and Michaud to the mix. Payea and Michaud took turns at the eight-time Champion, but both came away empty handed while Hoar refused to give up the top lane. With 20-laps to go the gloves came off as Helliwell jumped back into the fight. Payea faded, and a desperate Helliwell muscled by Michaud for second with just four laps remaining and escaped with a slim 8-point lead over Hoar unofficially. Polewarczyk took home fourth with Fort Kent, ME’s Austin Theriault finishing fifth. Brooks Clark, Dragon, Rookie Ben Lynch, Payea, and 2012 King of the Road Nick Sweet rounded out the top ten. The race was slowed by five cautions, and was completed in 1 hour, 6 minutes and 33 seconds. Hoar has already been invited to the Bond Auto ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on September, 22. Hoar looked unstoppable in victory lane. “We got really lucky with pit strategy, and I have to thank my car owner Rick for that,” said Hoar. “That was a ton of fun, I love the new outside lane here at Thunder Road. Racing with Wayne is just great, what a class act,” he finished. Bond Auto Tiger Sportsman driver Randy Gonyaw had to earn his second win of the year, surviving an attack from top drivers Bobby Therrien and David Finck who finished in three way battle for the win. Milton’s Eric Badore took home fourth, and point leader Brendan Moodie, Jr. rounded out the top five. Gonyaw came under attack early from two-time 2012 feature winner Chris Pelkey, who beat and banged Gonyaw for the lead in the early laps. After a lap 7 caution, “Double O” Joe Steffen and David Finck began their march to the front of the field. High point driver Jason Allen and Josh Demers were well on their way to the front, but with three laps to go Allen spun in front of the field in a brutal front-stretch wreck collecting Demers. Gonyaw got the early jump for the three-lap shootout, but it was Bobby Therrien swinging high and wide trying to claim the win on the top side as the race came to a close. Therrien was a half-car back from a sideways Gonyaw when the checkers flew. Gonyaw was speechless in victory lane. “I don’t even know what to say,” said Gonyaw. “I really thought I was going into the infield for a second there, I just can’t believe it,” he finished. The Allen Lumber Street Stocks saw a pivotal championship message sent by point-leader Nick Pilotte, who won his second feature in a row on Sunday evening. Pilotte was chased to the line by fellow top three point runners from 2011 Bunker Hodgdon and defending Champion Greg Adams to complete the podium. The race was slowed by two early cautions for spins, allowing teen sensation Emily Packard to climb her way to the third position by lap 7. Packard and veteran racer Marvin Johnson battled for second behind pole-sitter Keith Fortier until a lap 14 yellow. Packard used the outside groove to steal the lead, but was followed closely by Pilotte. Pilotte carefully waited for his moment, diving to the inside when a hole presented itself and powering to the victory. He survived a late-race restart when first-year driver Bob Eldred hit the turn four wall, vaulting into the air before getting pummeled in the door by Morrisville’s Dan Lathrop, claiming both cars. Packard fell to fourth in a tight last lap battle with Adams, and Morrisville’s Jamie Davis rounded out the top five. The American Canadian Tour is back in action for the Bond Auto ACT Invitational on Saturday, September 22 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Many of the stars of the ACT Tour will then head to Thunder Road on Sunday, September 30 for the 50th People’s United Bank Milk Bowl, where they will be joined by final championship races for both the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen, and Allen Lumber Street Stocks. September 2, 2012 Delaware, ON – On a sunny Sunday afternoon, the FT Garage Late Models hit the track for the Keystone Light 200, with a cash prize of $10,000 at stake. “Downtown” Mark Watson (#3) of St. Thomas won the event and by doing so drove his way into Delaware Speedway history. The event had nine lead changes among three different drivers. |
The first 100 laps, which counted for Delaware Championship Chase points, were led by Mark Watson (#3) of St. Thomas. Watson took the lead in lap eight from Brandon Watson (#9) of Stayner, but then lost it to Matt Pritiko (#21) of London in lap fourteen. Watson regained the lead in lap eighty-three from Pritiko, who fell into third place by the end of the first half. Jamie Cox (#22) of Dorchester held the second position. There were five cautions in the first half for minor incidents. When the green flag dropped on the second half following the competition yellow Mark Watson was the driver to beat out front but had the lead snatched away by Matt Pritiko (#21). Pritiko set to work dominating the field leading lap 107-165. Watson briefly retook the lead on lap 166 on a restart but lost it again a lap later. Watson would retake the lead for the final time from Pritiko on lap 174 of 200. Jon Urlin (#44) of London finished second in the race, his teammate Matt Pritiko (#21) of London finished third. The second half of the event had five cautions. “Matt [Pritiko] had a great race car, but I was waiting until about thirty to go,” explained Watson in victory lane. “At about lap 150 with the green flag run I started to get worried. We’ve had three big wins at specials in Ontario this year and it doesn’t get better than that!” Overall the day was a total domination run for Watson who also won the group time trials earlier in the day clocking a 18.963 second lap time. The win solidifies Watson’s position as points leader of the FT Garage Late Models. Watson, who is sponsored by Ron O’Brien Remax, also won a feature race in June in regular competition. The driver made headlines earlier in the week participating in a Delaware Speedway event in downtown London which culminated in the St. Thomas driver performing a series of skillful donuts at the intersection of York and Wellington. Racing resumes on Friday, September 14 with FT Garage Late Models, Coca-Cola Super Stocks, Demar Aggregates Trucks and the King of the Hill Spectator's Race. This date has been added to the racing calendar as a rain out make up date. Maxime Pelletier gagne la finale de 100 tours. Mais Steve Côté remporte les championnats Masters Canada-USA et ANCA Samedi soir, le 1er septembre avait lieu la course décisive pour les 2 championnats de la division Sportsman ANCA et de la Série Masters Canada-USA, une finale de 100 tours, dans le cadre de la soirée Pavé Brique Design. |
La soirée s’annonçait bien pour le meneur des deux séries, Steve Côté. Sa qualification lui avait procuré une 8e position pour la course, tandis que Pelletier, grâce à sa victoire en qualification lui donnait la pôle position, sauf qu’il avait établi au préalable qu’on inversait les 8 premières positions, ce qui a procuré la pôle à Côté et la 8e à Pelletier. Profitant donc de son avantageuse position de départ, le pilote de la voiture 85 a donc pris les devants dès le début résistant aux attaques de Stéphane Aubin et Martin Goulet qui se sont succédés au 2e rang durant les 13 premiers tours. Pelletier qui effectuait une superbe remontée, ayant eu raison successivement de Marc-Antoine Demers, Jamie Begor, Bucko Brandham, Martin Goulet et Stéphane Aubin, s’est finalement pointé derrière Côté au 14e passage avec Martin Goulet en 3e position. Cette lutte à trois s’est poursuivie jusqu’au 37e passage alors que l’Américain Bucko Brandham est venu à bout de dépasser Goulet et de s’emparer de la 3e position. À voir évoluer la situation, la majorité des amateurs présents avait pris pour acquis que le trio 85, 66 et 20 termineraient dans cette ordre, mais coup de théâtre au 83e tour alors que Pelletier et Brandham ont eu raison de Côté, relayant ce dernier en 3e position ! Pendant que Pelletier filait allégrement en première position, une lutte entre Côté et Brandham pour la 2e position s’en suivit. Une lutte qui n’aura duré que 4 tours puisque Côté a pu prendre la 2e position au 89e tour, mais n’a jamais été en mesure de rejoindre le 66 qui a finalement remporté la victoire. Une course propre, mais remplie d’action, qui aura été ponctuée de 5 ralentissements, disputée en 56 minutes, 11 secondes, qui aura été la conclusion des championnats Sportsman ANCA et Série Masters CAN-USA, et qui auront été remportés par le pilote de la voiture 85, Steve Côté. Également, au programme, il y a eu une finale de 75 tours pour les pilotes de la Série Procam Super Truck et 2 autres de 30 tours pour les Vintage. Ces deux séries publieront un communiqué détaillé de leurs résultats. Pour les pilotes des 4 autres divisions de l’ANCA, les victoires sont allées à Mathieu Francoeur, après une course très mouvementée en Sport Compacte, au cours de laquelle le meneur au championnat, Jason Morand a complètement démoli sa voiture. Sylvain Denis est parvenu à retrouver le chemin de la victoire en Légendes Modifiées, tandis que la voiture #14 d’Alain Bougie a passé en premier le fil d’arrivée en Production. En Challenge 4, la victoire est allée au pilote de la voiture #32, Jean Phillippe Benoît. Le prochain programme de stock car présenté à l’Autodrome St-Eustache aura lieu le dimanche 16 septembre alors que les pilotes de la Série ACT Castrol seront les vedettes de la présentation d’une finale de 300 tours, le Castrol TT 300. -30- |
Pour diffusion immédiate (02-09-12=33) Onzième manche de la série ACT-Castrol à l’Autodrome Montmagny Jean François Déry de Québec, le pilote de la Camry/Giguère Portes & Fenêtres, a profité des ennuis de Patrick Laperle pour remporter son troisième succès de la saison, lors de l’ACT 150 disputé à l’Autodrome Montmagny, samedi soir. Malgré cette prestation, officieusement, Déry n’aurait pas retranché de points à l’avance que détient Laperle dans cette lutte pour le championnat de la série ACT-Castrol |
Déry a eu le meilleur devant Dany Trépanier de St-Édouard-de-Lotbinière qui a fièrement défendu sa position tout au long de l’épreuve et qui a donné du fil à retordre à ce dernier ainsi qu’à Laperle. David Michaud de St-Anne-des-Plaines qui a pris la quatrième place, a lui aussi animé cette épreuve qui a été de loin sa meilleure. En sept occasions pour le poste de commande, Michaud a joué à la chaise musicale avec Laperle et ce, au grand plaisir des amateurs présents. Pour sa part, Donald Theetge qui a été impliqué dans le carambolage du début, a pris la cinquième position alors que Jonathan Bouvrette, Patrick Hamel, Daniel Descoste, la recrue William Roberge et Karl Allard ont complété le peloton des dix premiers. Cette finale a très mal débuté alors qu’en route vers le drapeau vert, un accrochage entre plusieurs voitures dont Yannick Tremblay, Patrick Cliche, Marco Savoie, Daniel Descoste et Donald Theetge est survenu. Il a fallu déployer le drapeau rouge. Malheureusement, la soirée venait de se terminer pour Savoie et Tremblay. À la relance, Gaétan Lauzier de St-Pacôme a dominé durant sept tours avant que ne commence le duel Michaud-Laperle qui a duré jusqu’au 124e passage, moment où Laperle a été victime du bris d’une roue. Cependant, il a été en mesure de contrôler sa Fusion LaSalle Ford pour ne pas heurter le mur. C’est à ce moment que Déry s’est emparé de la commande pour filer vers le drapeau à damier. Au total cette épreuve a nécessité sept neutralisations dont une complète pour l’accrochage du début et quatre pilotes, Lauzier, Michaud, Laperle et Déry se sont échangé la première place en neuf occasions. Babb's father, Robert Babb Jr., is a five-time track champion at Beech Ridge, and his grandfather, Robert Babb Sr., is a two-time champion there. “It's incredible,” said the emotional 19-year-old Babb. “I couldn't ask for any more. It's the greatest feeling in the world.” Babb's night was not without its tense moments. He started 20 in the 45-lap main event on Saturday, and was joined by virtually every other championship contender in a multi-car incident on Lap 7. He emerged with only minor damage, but six laps later was off the track in Turn 4 when two other competitors got together ahead of the No. 4 Babb Wood Contractors/McGoldrick Bros. Blasting Chevrolet. His 11-point lead entering the feature seemed tenuous in the early going. “After I got run into that wreck there, I kind of was wondering (how the car would be) until we went green again,” said Babb, who won one feature and finished in the Top-10 in 11 of 12 races this season. “The car was pretty tight. I was just hoping to keep those guys in sight – Billy (Rodgers) and Aaron (Ricker) – and I knew at that point we'd have it.” The remainder of the race went virtually without further incident, handing Babb the title by a slim margin of less than 10 points. Babb joined Nick Cusack – who won his first career Wildcat championship earlier in the night – as a third-generation champion at Beech Ridge. Only the Babb family, however, has won all eight of its championships while racing in the track's top NASCAR Whelen All-American Series division. Babb will be crowned as NASCAR's track and Maine state champion at the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series banquet in Charlotte, N.C., in early December. “It hasn't even sunk in yet, and I'm on top of the world already,” Babb said. “We've won it all in the same division, and that's pretty neat. “I don't even know what to say.” To close out the racing season, Babb plans to compete in the PASS North Series 150 at White Mountain Motorsports Park next Saturday night and then in the PASS 300 at Beech Ridge on September 16. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ACT-090112 Montmagny, QC – Quebec City’s Jean-François Déry claimed his third Série ACT Castrol win of the season in the Montmagny 150 at Autodrome Montmagny on Saturday, September 1. Déry inherited the lead on lap 124 after leader Patrick Laperle had a wheel break on the right front. Déry held off Dany Trepanier for two more restarts to take the win, while Laperle recovered to finish third. |
Laperle took the starting grid in 13th, but picked up several spots following a large pile-up coming down to the initial green. The event was red flagged while pole-sitter Yannick Tremblay, Patrick Cliche, Marco Savoie and Daniel Descoste had to be separated from the inside wall. Laperle would take the green in the seventh spot on the rear bumper of David Michaud. The first 100 laps of the event saw an all out war between point leader Laperle and Michaud. The two got to the point on lap seven and swapped the lead several times over the next 93 laps. Michaud seemed to have the edge running the high side and opened up a straight away lead after Laperle fell into the clutches of Déry during long green flag run. Laperle would get the advantage, however, on the lap 100 restart and build his own lead. The defending Série ACT Castrol Champion seemed to have the race in hand until coming off of turn two on the 125th circuit, the center of his wheel broke nearly sending him into the wall. Déry took over the lead and fought off Trepanier for the win. With just eight cars on the lead lap, Laperle got back to third place over the final 25 laps. Michaud rebounded from a tire going soft to take fourth, while Donald Theetge, who received some front end damage in the first accident of the night, completed the top five. Jonathan Bouvrette, Patrick Hamel, Daniel Descoste, William Roberge and Karl Allard, who also received damage in the initial caution, completed the top ten. The event saw 23 ACT Late Models take the grid. Eight cars completed the 150 lap distance with 17 cars on the track for the checkered flag. The event was completed in 1 hour, 22 minutes and 41 seconds, including a 15 minute red flag period. The red flag was the first of seven caution periods. Déry has already earned his 4th annual Bond Auto ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 22. The event will be part of a three race Saturday on Cup weekend. The top eleven Série ACT Castrol point men will head to Autodrome Chaudiere next Saturday, September 8 to face the top ACT US drivers in the annual Showdown at Chaudiere 200.
