Plattsburgh, NY - Joey Polewarczyk Jr. of Hudson, NH, still looking uphill at the $25,000 ACT International 500 winner’s prize as the end of the 300-lap race neared, passed Patrick Laperle with 15 laps remaining to win the inaugural event before one of the largest crowds in Airborne Speedway history Sunday, July 21.

Polewarczyk Jr. outpointed 8-time ACT champion Brian Hoar by winning the first two 100-lap segments of the 300-lap event with Hoar close behind in 2nd place both times.

When Hoar took command halfway through the final segment and went on to win it, Polewarczyk Jr. needed to finish 2nd to win the overall event. With 30 laps remaining, Polewarczyk trailed second-place Patrick Laperle by six car-lengths. The final event points totals were Polewarczyk 4 points (1-1-2) to Hoar’s 5 points (2-2-1).

“It’s a very humbling feeling to win such a prestigious event,” Joey Pole said. “There’s only going to be one inaugural ACT 500 ever. It’s a helluva payday! I really had to hustle the car to get by Laperle. I could see he was getting free off the turns and I knew I really had to go.”

Polewarczyk led Hoar to the wire by four car-lengths to win the opening segment with Scott Payea of Milton, Vt. 3rd, Eddie MacDonald of Rowley, Mass. 4th and Ray Parent of Tiverton, RI, 5th.

The second segment came to an abrupt halt at the drop of the green when Bucko Branham and Jimmy Linardy made contact on the front row with a 10-car chain reaction crash resulting. The incident quickly bumped Hoar, Polewarczyk Jr., Scott Payea and Eddie MacDonald, who ultimately finished 3rd overall, back into contention after having started near the rear of the 40-car field.

As round two wound down, Hoar and Polewarczyk swapped the lead repeatedly as starting on the outside of the front row on restarts became pivotal. Joey Pole got the last chance at being on the outside of Hoar on the final restart on lap 93.

“Brian was tough all day,” Polewarczyk said. “He had us covered in the last round, but earlier, whoever had the outside line had the best shot and it worked out for me.”

MacDonald made a last lap pass in the final segment to take third. Payea had a 3-round score of 13 points (3-3-7) to claim 4th overall. Jean-Francois Dery of Quebec City, QC was 5th. Positions 6-10 went to Parent, Alex Labbe, Laperle, Wayne Helliwell Jr. and rookie Bobby Therrien.

Todd Stone of Middlebury won the $3,000-to-win Ernie’s Tools Modified Twin 50’s event besting Patrick Dupree of Saranac Lake and George Foley of Vermontville. Stone finished 3rd in the first 50-lap race and won the second for an overall winning score of four points. Dupree chased Stone to the line in round two to earn runner-up honors. Foley got by Andy Heywood after a 20-lap battle to wind up 3rd overall.

The American Canadian Tour returns to point counting action next weekend. The Série ACT returns to Autodrome Montmagny next Saturday, July 27. The US-based ACT will head to Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT next Sunday, July 28.

Rookie Corey LaJoie Wins Career-First ARCA Race at Chicagoland Speedway

(JOLIET, Ill.) - Corey LaJoie led when it counted Sunday, winning the Ansell ActivArmr 150 at Chicagoland Speedway in just his second career ARCA start. LaJoie passed leaders Justin Boston and Josh Williams just before taking the white flag and sailed to his biggest career win.

"It just all worked out," said the Richard Petty Motorsports development driver.

LaJoie, driving the No. 17 Sims Metal Management-Roulo Brothers Ford, led 36 of the first 52 laps. His team decided to pit on lap 80 for fuel and two tires, a strategy that worked in his favor when pole sitter Ryan Blaney ran out of fuel with seven laps to go and Boston appeared to do the same with two circuits left.

"With about 20 to go, Harold Holly (crew chief) said we were going to come in for fuel and tires and see if we can out smart them a little bit," LaJoie said. "I came in to get tires. After that it was just all-out racing.

"I saw the 25 (Boston) and he was way up there and my spotter said 'leader is out of gas' and I said 'sweet, we're coming to the white flag.'"

Cunningham Motorsports driver Blaney had built nearly a full lap lead on the rest of the field after taking the lead from LaJoie on lap 53. But, his car ran out of fuel with seven laps to go and Venturini Motorsports driver Justin Boston, in the No. 25 ZLOOP Computer & Electronics Recycling Toyota, inherited the lead. Then, on lap 98, Boston ran out of gas. He finished seventh, the first car one lap down.

Williams finished a career-best second in the No. 02 Allegiant Travel Ford, in his second race driving for Gallagher Motorsports. He was on the same pit strategy as Blaney and Boston, but was able to make it to the end.

"In practice, everybody does there fuel millage thing," Williams said. "We had really good fuel mileage. At the end I was just rolling out of it way early, but I was saving all I could."

With the runner-up finish, Williams moved up to fifth place in the ARCA Racing Series driver point standings.

Blaney, who led the most laps for the second time this season, had a huge lead on the rest of the field. He said he thought he could make it on fuel.

"It was just a miscalculation," he said. "It sucks because that's twice we've had really fast race cars but didn't win because of something silly.

"Our thought was we could make it," he said. "I was trying to save fuel. We just missed it."

There were three cautions in the race, the last coming at lap 24 for fluid on the track. Most of the leaders pitted at that time. Will Kimmel, in the 69 Messina Wildlife Ford for Kimmel Racing, led the next 15 laps until LaJoie grabbed the lead until lap 42 when Blaney zoomed to the front.

Blaney led 41 laps in all, three more than LaJoie. Frank Kimmel, who led one lap in his No. 44 Ansell Menards Toyota, finished ninth, his 21st consecutive top-10 finish in the ARCA Racing Series.

Will Kimmel finished fourth. Phoenix, Arizona native Chad Boat placed fifth in his Southern Car Parts Toyota, with Mason Mingus in the No. 32 Team Construction-811 Call Before You Dig Toyota sixth, Boston seventh, Venturini Motorsports drivers Caleb Armstrong and A.J. Henriksen eighth and 10th, respectively.

The 100-lap, 150-mile race took just under 1 hour and 10 minutes to complete.

LaJoie, the son of two-time NASCAR Nationwide Series champion Randy LaJoie, said he hopes to race in a couple more ARCA Racing Series events this season.

"It definitely makes all of the late nights and midnights and early mornings worth it," he said.

He called winning the Ansell ActivArmr 150 his biggest victory to date.

"I think every race win is your next-biggest career win," he said, thanking Richard Petty Motorsports and Roulo Brothers Racing for the combined effort. "Hopefully it keeps going up the ladder. It is hard to stay fresh when you're not in the race car. I don't mind not racing every now and then, but if I get the opportunity to race every week, I think I would be that much better."

Danny Benedict Invades Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Speedway Victory Lane

All it took was a night off from his regular home track to send Danny Benedict in search of a different place to race. The 16 year-old from Orono, Ontario loaded his potent #54 Honda Prelude onto the trailer and towed about 20 minutes from the family’s race shop to Canadian Tire Motorsport Park Speedway, where the half mile speedplant played host to a special event for the Lucas Oil Pure Stock field.

Even though the track is close to his home base, Benedict needed some extra laps during the afternoon’s warm-up sessions to land on the perfect set-up for the 25 lap main event. There isn’t much that can take the place of seat time when it comes to getting ready for an event on an unfamiliar track and the young driver was able to provide some solid feedback to his father/crew chief and turn-in some strong finishes to be ready for the headline dance.

The talented teen may have started from the pole position, but it was hardly a walk in the park for the Clarke High School student. Current point leader and defending track champion Willy Howells was glued to his back bumper for the entire race distance and a late race yellow flag bunched the field for a restart that almost cost Benedict the win.

“I missed a shift when we came back to green after the caution,” admitted the driver during his winner’s circle interview. “Bringing the pack together gave the fans an exciting finish, but I was worried that I may have blown it by making what would have been a silly mistake.”

As a visiting car for the special event, the Benedict team needed to add extra weight to make the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park requirements and then go through a rigorous post race technical inspection before he was officially declared the race winner. The driver and his father were both confident that their piece would make it through every stage of the process without any issues.

“We checked the track web-site for rules when we first started talking about coming to the show and knew what we’d need to do to make our car race ready,” said Doug Benedict. “Officials asked us to bolt on an extra 15 pounds of lead when we crossed the scales before the show. We actually borrowed a 25 pound ballast from Dan Kimmerly, just to compensate for any weight loss that might have cropped-up from fuel burning off during the race. It’ll be great to add another trophy from a feature win to our collection in the shop.”

Danny Benedict and his team will be back in action Saturday, July 27^th at the Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stocks join the Paul Davis Systems Thunder Cars, Vanguard Self Storage Late Models and Ontario Legends for the next show at Peterborough Speedway. A TRIUMPHANT RETURN FOR GLENCOE'S DAVID MCCULLOUGH

The unstoppable David McCullough (#39) of Glencoe made a triumphant return to GAW Recycling Enduro A-Division Competition on Saturday evening at Delaware Speedway with a solid victory. The evening featured Crazy Car Curling and a Bone Stock Chaos Car race won by Shane Thomas (#8) of Ilderton. The inaugural Legends Car Invitational was won by Nicholas Ledson (#15) of Cookstown and the GAW Recycling Enduro B Division was won by David Rumble (#114) of Blenheim. The night also included a Ladies Bone Stock race, won by Tanya Moesker (#51) of Beachville.

The Ontario Legends Cars visited the track for a twenty-five lap feature. Steve Aubertin (#28) of Bothwell led the first three laps until Nicholas Ledson (#15), who finished won his heat, took the lead. Ledson went on to win the feature. Fred Jordan (#70) who finished also won, was unable to finish the race due to a collision with Jamie Marche (#66) of London. Duane Cinnamon (#14) of Stouffville finished second and Marche finished third.

Shane Thomas (#8) won the Bone Stock Chaos Car fifty lap feature. The first three laps of the race were led by Lloyd Mailloux (#13) of Strathroy until he was passed by Jack Van Herk (#07) of Mitchell. Van Herk held the lead until lap eight, when Jeremy Schindel (#22) of Delaware passed him to lead one lap. Kevin Lay (#5) of Windsor put his car to work and took the lead in lap ten as Schindel and Van Herk became locked together on the front stretch. Lay held the lead until lap twelve when Thomas finally took the lead and led the remainder of the event. Andy Jaffery (#9) finished second and Kevin Lay finished third.

Following the Bone Stock feature was a Ladies Bone Stock Chaos Car eight lap race. It was won by Tanya Moesker (#51) of Beachville. Michelle Douglas (#8) finished second and Tiffany Hoffman (#92) finished third.

David McCullough (#39) won the GAW Recycling Enduro feature taking the lead at the half-way point from defending winner Steve Book (#64) of Brantford. After the pass Book never truly let McCullough out of his sights. The turning point came on lap 86 of 100 when Steve Book closed the gap on McCullough and made an attempt for the lead through lapped traffic. Splitting lapped cars high and low, Book ended up on the lowside. Unfortunately for Book a car spun in front of him, forcing him to slow his advance. Once reset he found himself a full straight back from McCullough who would go on to win the race. Book settled for second, Barry Watson (#45) of Ailsa Craig finished third.

“I put it in a spot I normally wouldn’t but when you’re chasing someone as fast as Dave [McCullough] you make some moves you normally wouldn’t do,” said Book on his second-place finish. “It just happened there was another car going backwards down there. I had my eyes closed for a moment and did bounce off the inside wall a bit. I knew I couldn't catch McCullough after that.”

“I’ve raced Steve clean for many years. He’s a great driver to race with,” said McCullough in victory lane. “It feels pretty good [to be here]. I want to thank the fans for coming out tonight.”

The top finisher in the GAW Recycing B-Division was Dave Rumble (#117) of Blenheim. Second was Tony Rumble (#04) of Blenheim and third was Kris Fairweather (#6) of London.

Crazy Car Curling, a first time event for Delaware Speedway, in which cars are pushed by a truck with the aim of rolling it closest to a target, took place before the races. The safety crew competed against the Whitworth Towing crew with the towing crew winning by landing their car closest to the target.

Racing will continue next Friday, July 26 with the Vintage Modifieds Amazing Value Night, sponsored by Ground Masters. The night will include a Classic Car Cruise sponsored by Hagatery Insurance at 7:00 PM, as well as features for Vintage Modifieds, 4-Cylinder Outlaw Modifieds, Coca-Cola Super Stocks, and Demar Aggregates Trucks. La présentation de ce 3^e programme n’a pas été de tout repos pour les dirigeants du RPM Speedway. Ceux-ci ont dû collaborer avec une importante accumulation d’eau et une panne de courant qui a cessé qu’en milieu de soirée. Malgré tout, l’action était au rendez-vous.

Pour la première fois cette saison, les Modifiés 358 étaient en piste pour une finale de 100 tours. Dès le départ, Sébastien Gougeon #44 profite de sa 2^e place pour prendre les commandes de l’épreuve. Ce n’est cependant pas une simple petite balade pour celui-ci, qui se fait bombarder d’attaques par l’Ontarien Chris Raabe #01 qui visiblement est plus rapide. C’est suite à une relance de la course au 38^e passage, que Raabe s’accapare de la tête pour de bon. Par la suite, malgré les assauts multipliés de David Hébert #1 en fin de course et plusieurs neutralisations, le conducteur du bolide #01 demeure intouchable et croise le fil d’arrivée loin devant.

En catégorie Sportsman, Martin Pelletier #92 prend l’avantage d’un spectaculaire duel qui l’opposait à Steve Bernier #25, durant la majeure partie de la finale de 25 tours.

Chez les lightning Sprints, tout comme en classe Sportsman, les amateurs présents ont assisté à une bagarre intéressante entre Simon Couture #34 et Mathieu Bourgoin #27. Malheureusement pour Bourgoin, alors qu’il avait réussi à prendre la tête de la course de 25 tours, celui-ci perd la maîtrise de son bolide à la sortie de la courbe #4, laissant la victoire à Couture sur un plateau d’argent. Pour le conducteur du bolide #34, il s’agissait de sa 27^e victoire en Lightning Sprint.

ACT International 500 Pit Notes

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ACT-072013

Plattsburgh, NY – The American Canadian Tour Late Models ascended on Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY for a day of practice on Saturday, July 20. A total of 46 Late Model teams took advantage of the practice session in anticipation of the Inaugural ACT International 500 scheduled for Sunday, July 21.

Quebec’s Jonathan Bouvrette led a strong contingent of Série ACT competitors and the rest of the field with the fastest time of the day with a 17.054 in the third and final practice session. Fellow Quebecer’s Alex Labbe, Patrick Laperle, Jean-François Déry and David Michaud spent time at the top of the speed charts.

Eight-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar paced the early practice session followed by two-time Thunder Road Champion Nick Sweet. 2013 ACT winner Jimmy Hebert was also quick along with current ACT point leader Wayne Helliwell, Jr. Fellow ACT regulars Chip Grenier, Rowland Robinson, Jr., Bobby Therrien and Ben Lynch posted solid times.

Also from north of the border, Derek Lynch carried the Ontario banner along with Dan McHattie, Bryan Mercer and Shawn McGlynn.

The only incident of the day came during the second practice session. ACT veteran Brent Dragon suffered left front damage while trying to avoid a spin in front of him. Dragon replaced a couple of bolt on parts and will be ready to go for tomorrow.

Competitors from nine different states and provinces were present for the Saturday test sessions. The drivers are tuned in and ready for the Inaugural ACT International 500 on Sunday, July 21 at Airborne Speedway. Post time for qualifying heats is set for 1:00pm.
