Branham wins wild Late Model show; Begor, LaVair take double-point victories

WEST HAVEN, VT – Ron Proctor waited nearly two years to carry a checkered flag at Devil's Bowl Speedway, but the wait became worth it as the veteran driver won the double-points Rutland Herald Mid-Season Championship in dominant fashion on Friday, July 18. Proctor headlined a list of winners that also included Bucko Branham, Jamy Begor, and Chris LaVair.

The outcome of the 25-lap main event for the Bond Auto Parts Modified division was never in question, as Proctor's No. 27 Charlton Oil/Timco Transportation Teo Pro car jumped from its outside-pole starting position to lead the opening lap, and was never challenged. It was the Charlton, NY driver's first NASCAR Whelen All-American Series victory since August 2012.

Runner-up Jason Durgan of Morrisonville, NY ran lap times nearly identical to Proctor's throughout the well-driven, caution-free race, but was never able to mount a serious charge. Joey Roberts and Todd Stone waged a long battle for third place with Stone making several outside-lane attempts in the final laps, but Roberts held on for the spot. Stone was fourth with Johnny Scarborough fifth.

"This was a long time coming," two-time track champion Proctor said of the win. "You have to really enjoy these victories, because you never know when the next one is coming." Proctor became the eighth different driver to win in 11 Modified races in 2014. Stone stretched his championship lead only slightly, and now paces Roberts by 37 points.

Bucko Branham of Plattsburgh, NY used a much-improved car and a dash of luck to win the 30-lap Late Model feature. Branham led the opening laps before Joey M. Laquerre took over, but an ill-fated three-wide attempt at the lead by Emily Packard left her car in a dramatic crash with Jamie Fisher and Josh Masterson. Packard, Fisher, and Masterson entered the race separated by just nine points for the championship lead.

Laquerre survived heavy contact in the incident to retain the lead at the restart, but Branham overpowered him three laps later and sped to the win, the first of his career at Devil's Bowl. Fisher, of Shelburne, VT, made a brilliant run through the field after restart in the back following the lap 15 crash to nip Jamie Aube at the finish line for second place by less than a foot. Robert Bryant, Jr., finished fourth, just ahead of Masterson.

Packard took sixth, while Laquerre suffered a flat tire late in the race and did not finish. Fisher took over the point lead, topping Masterson by three points and Packard by 10.

Long-time Airborne Park standout Jamy Begor hauled from the Canadian border town of Mooers Forks, NY to make his first start of the season in the Renegade division, and ended up in victory lane. Begor stalked leader Jim McKiernan for the first 15 circuits of the 20-lap race before making his move, bringing Robert Gordon along with him. Gordon made a bid on the inside on the final lap, but a spin by a backmarker forced the caution flag to wave, freezing the field. Begor was scored as the winner with Gordon second and McKiernan third. Richard Lowrey, III and Dylan Rabtoy rounded out the top five.

Chris LaVair of Gabriels, NY used a car borrowed from fellow competitor Dan Collins to take his second win of the season in the Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stock division. LaVair diced with brother Bobby LaVair in the early stages, but pulled away over the 20-lap distance. Point leader Chuck Bradford slipped by for the runner-up finish, followed by Bobby LaVair, Jake Noble, and John McCarron.

Devil's Bowl Speedway will take its annual summer break on Friday, July 25, but returns to action on Friday, August 1 with the third annual C.J. Richards Memorial presented by Carrara Masonry & Concrete. The Northern Modified Challenge Series joins the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions for the 67-lap event run in honor of the track's late founder and the facility's inaugural 1967 season.

Waterbury, VT – The twenty-five thousand ($25,000) to win International 300 has a record number of American Canadian Tour (ACT) winners headed to the summer spectacular. Recent Vermont Governor's Cup winner Nick Sweet from Barre, Vermont and Quebec's Patrick Laperle will be joined by Ray Parent from Tiverton, Rhode Island and State of Maine drivers Jeff White from Winthrop and Rowland Robinson, Jr. from Steuben.

Sweet is a two-time Thunder Road Champion and has enjoyed success on longer tracks such as New Hampshire Motor Speedway, where he has two second place finishes to Eddie MacDonald in the inaugural Bond Auto ACT Invitational in 2009 and again in 2011.

"I heard that Eddie was coming to Airborne. This is my chance to get even for those two second place finishes. The first one I kind of wrote off, as he had more experience than me, the second one he just plain beat me, and that one still stings! I have driven in a lot of Milk Bowl-type events and I hope that gives me an edge. I know how much everyone wants to win the money, but if it comes down to Eddie and me in the third segment, I sure hope it's me at the checkers," said Sweet.

Laperle started his racing career at Airborne, with his brother Eric. Literally, the twin brothers flipped a coin the first night there to see who was going to drive the first week and the plan was to switch the next week. Patrick won the toss. He never gave up the driver's seat and became one of the most popular and colorful drivers ever to race on both sides of the border. Ironically, Eric never ran a lap, but he has become one of the best crew chiefs in the Northeast not just for his brother, but in the development of some young Quebec teams over the past 20 years.

The usually flamboyant Laperle, never short on words or opinions said, "I come to win the money! That's it!"

Ray Parent won his first ACT US event at Airborne Speedway this past May. In what was one of the most competitive events of the year, Parent held off Blainville, Quebec's Jonathan Bouvrette in a final lap photo finish dash off turn 4 by just .041 seconds. The Amtrol Ford Fusion team has established themselves as one of the favorites going into the International.

White and Robinson will make the long haul from Maine to attend the second International in Plattsburgh. White has momentum on his side, winning the last event held before the International at the White Mountain Motorsports Park in Woodstock, NH. The family team of Robinson has consistently had some solid top ten performances at Airborne.

"I like the chances of teams like Jeff White and Jr. Robinson in this kind of event. Obviously, it takes some luck and a consistent race car to get the job done, but stringing three segments together, even without winning one of the segments, still gives someone a chance to win the $25,000 dollars. A 50-lap and two 75-lap segments is a lot different than a straight up 150 or 200-lap race. It generally comes down to positioning yourself for that third segment with some solid finishes in the first two. Then you can take the gloves off and have at it for the win in the third segment. It should be a lot of fun to watch, "said Chris Michaud, former Milk Bowl winner and ACT Race Director at Thunder Road, home of the three segment Milk Bowl.

Filling out the race day card on Sunday will be the Airborne Sportsman Modified teams running a 50-lap special point race. They will be joined by the Pro Cam Truck Series from Quebec, and the Thunder Road Tiger division, which was introduced to Airborne when it changed from dirt to asphalt back in 1990.

Advanced sale tickets for the event are available now from the ACT office. Sunday reserved seat tickets are just $35, adult general admission is $25 and kids (ages 6 to 12) are just $5. Saturday, July 19's Black Cat Hell Drivers Thrill Show tickets are just $10 for adults, $3 for kids (ages 6 to 12) and $20 for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 kids).

Mod (100 tours)

En plus d'accumuler plus de points de championnat avec ce 100 tours, le gagnant Modifié se méritera une qualification pour la course de 358 le samedi 11 octobre à Syracuse durant le Super Dirt Week. Bruno Lepage #99 a manifesté l'intention d'être de retour parmi nous après son fâcheux accident de Cornwall qui lui a valu un mois de convalescence. David Hébert #37 reprend les devants du classement avec une mince avance de 6 points sur Alain Boisvert #73. François Bernier #49 est toujours troisième. C'est la soirée Pneus Robert Bernard, l'entreprise familiale pour laquelle Steve Bernard #54 travaille comme directeur des ventes. Souhaitons que ce charismatique pilote termine aussi bien qu'il le fait ailleurs : il est présentement premier au classement de Drummondville.

Sportsman (35 tours)

Jonathan Désilets #21 est toujours l'envié meneur dans le cumul avec seulement 4 points devant l'ambitieux Dany Gagné #90. Mathieu Desjardins #1m possède le même écart derrière Gagné. Desjardins surplombe le classement de Drummond actuellement sur son éternel rival Martin Pelletier #92P. Kevin Chagnon #14 a non seulement frappé le meilleur temps de son groupe en temps chronométré, mais a aussi remporté sa première qualification à vie à Granby lors de la visite des Ontariens la semaine dernière. Cette recrue demeure un incontournable.

Prostock (30 tours)

Stéphane Lemire #115, Jocelyn Roy #48, Bruno Cyr #33 et Guy Viens #15 nous ont bien représentés du côté du Mohawk International Raceway vendredi dernier en terminant respectivement 2ème, 3ème, 7ème et 9ème dans le cadre de la série Mohawk. Un autre combat les attend ici : celui pour le championnat où Jocelyn Roy #48 est premier à 15 points de Stéphane Lemire #115 et seulement 17 points de François Adam #01.

Tagliani termine cinquième à Saskatoon

Montréal, 17 juillet 2014 - Alex Tagliani a terminé au cinquième rang lors de la cinquième étape de la Série NASCAR Canadian Tire (NCATS) disputée mercredi soir sur l'ovale de l'Auto Clearing Motor Speedway à Saskatoon en Saskatchewan. Pour le pilote de la Dodge Challenger numéro 18 aux couleurs d'EpiPen/Dicom Express, il s'agit de son meilleur résultat en huit départs sur une piste ovale dans cette série. En 2008, il avait terminé septième à Barrie en Ontario.

Qualifié au sixième rang, le pilote de Lachenaie s'est maintenu parmi les huit premiers tout au long de cette course de 250 passages autour de la piste d'un tiers de mille, propice aux dépassements jusqu'à trois de large. Seulement 18 voitures étaient alignées au départ du Velocity Prairie Thunder 250, dont huit par des pilotes de l'Ouest canadien.

« L'équipe Tagliani Autosport a fait un bon travail pour réparer la voiture à la suite d'un incident survenu mercredi après-midi lors de la deuxième séance d'essai, a déclaré Tagliani. Je suis très satisfait du résultat de cette course, mon premier top-5 sur une piste ovale dans cette série, et mon second en trois courses (incluant Mirabel). Nous avons récolté de précieux points pour le championnat des propriétaires de voiture, ce qui nous fait monter au cinquième rang. »

Pour la deuxième fois cette saison, les deux voitures de Tagliani Autosport étaient du départ de la course à Saskatoon avec Stefan Rzadzinski d'Edmonton au volant de la Dodge No 24 Goldmark Diesel/Christensen Developments/CanTorque qui a terminé au onzième rang, à deux tours du vainqueur.

Résumé de la course
Louis-Philippe Dumoulin n'a mené que deux des 251 tours du Velocity Prairie Thunder 250, mais le dernier fut le bon pour le pilote de Trois-Rivières qui a inscrit sa première victoire sur piste ovale dans cette série pour prendre la tête du classement des pilotes. Lors de la dernière relance de la course, Dumoulin a doublé l'Ontarien Joey McColm qui avait pris les commandes au 246e tour alors que tous les meneurs, sauf McColm et Dumoulin, sont entrés aux puits pour changer leurs pneus. Jason Hathaway a terminé deuxième, suivi du premier qualifié Scott Steckly, qui a mené 153 tours. Andrew Ranger a croisé l'arrivée en quatrième position, suivi de Tagliani. McColm a glissé au sixième rang après avoir été doublé par Dumoulin. Sept neutralisations ont ralenti l'épreuve durant 46 tours, le septième ralentissement survenant à 10 encablures de l'arrivée après une longue séquence de 120 tours sans interruption.

Prochaine étape au Québec
Les pilotes et leurs équipes auront droit à un court moment de répit à la suite du long voyage de 3,500 kilomètres qui les mènera de Saskatoon à l'Autodrome Saint-Eustache où aura lieu la sixième étape du NCATS le samedi 26 juillet. Le départ de la course de 250 tours sur l'ovale d'un quart de mille est annoncé pour 20 h 05. Deux séances d'essais auront lieu au début de l'après-midi, suivi de la qualification à 16 h 15.

Le réseau RDS présentera la course disputée au Circuit ICAR de Mirabel ce jeudi 17 juillet à 21 h 30. L'épreuve d'Edmonton sera télévisée sur RDS2 le 26 juillet à 15 heures et celle de Saskatoon le 3 août à 17 heures toujours sur les ondes de RDS2.

À mi-chemin de la saison 2014 dans les deux championnats de l'American-Canadian Tour, les meneurs aux cumulatifs sont considérés favoris pour décrocher les honneurs de la deuxième édition de l'International 300 qui sera disputé sur le populaires tracé de la piste Airborne Speedway de Plattsburgh.
Faisant suite à sa troisième place lors de la cinquième manche disputée à Vallée-Jonction, Alex Labbé de St-Albert est revenu au premier rang du cumulatif. À sa deuxième saison complète avec l'équipe des frères Larue de Québec, le pilote de la Ford Fusion/Larue Équipement de déneigement, est le champion défendant du Fall Foliage 200, mais de la Can-Am 200 du circuit Ste-Croix/Riverside Speedway. Son talent est indiscutable et ses rivaux devront l'avoir à l'œil. Il les a déjà battus et il serait bien capable de le faire encore.
«Nous avons connu un bon résultat lors de notre dernière course à l'Autodrome Chaudière, ce qui nous a permis de remonter en première place au cumulatif. Maintenant, nous pouvons nous permettre du plaisir à l'une de mes pistes préférées. Ce tracé est rapide et j'apprécie croiser le fer avec les pilotes américains de l'ACT. Je sais que les milliers d'amateurs québécois seront sur place et ce chèque de 25,000$ nous aidera à payer les dommages subis lors de la première course à l'Autodrome St-Eustache en début de saison. J'ai vraiment hâte à cette fin de semaine,» de dire Labbé.
Du coté de l'American-Canadian Tour, c'est à Joey Polewarczky jr. que revient cet honneur. D'ailleurs, il est le champion défendant de l'International 300 et est actuellement au premier rang du cumulatif. Sans doute que Labbé devra l'avoir dans sa mire.
On a appris également qu'Eddie MacDonald, un pilote de la série Nascar K&N East également inscrit pour une deuxième année consécutive. Celui que l'on surnomme le «hors-la-loi» a terminé en troisième place en 2013. Il est toujours un rival de taille et compte trois victoires dans le Bond Auto Invitational présenté à la piste New-Hampshire Motor Speedway dans le cadre du Sylvania 300.
Samedi en soirée, la piste Airborne sera occupée par le groupe Black Cat Hell on Whells, un groupe de cascadeurs hors-pair. Pour ce spectacle, l'admission a été fixée à 10$ alors que le lendemain, le prix d'entrée sera de 25$. En déboursant un 10$ supplémentaire, on pourra se procurer un siège réservé.

Green-White-Checkered Pass Secures Third Career Canadian Tire Series Win

SASKATOON, Sask. (July 16, 2014) – L.P. Dumoulin finally got the oval-track win he was looking for.

The road-course ace from Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, came out on top in a wild green-white-checkered finish to the Velocity Prairie Thunder 250 Wednesday in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 action at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway.

Dumoulin and Joey McColm stayed out when the leaders pitted under caution inside of 10 laps to go to setup a dramatic finish on the .333-mile progressive-banked track. On the restart, new leader McColm get loose coming to the white flag and Dumoulin powered to the front. He then held off Jason Hathaway and Scott Steckly in a race to the checkered flag.

It was the third career Canadian Tire Series victory for Dumoulin in the No. 47 WeatherTech Canada/Bellemare Dodge. His first two came on the road course at Ontario's Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in 2013. He also took over the championship points lead by 10 over JR Fitzpatrick.

Behind Steckly, Andrew Ranger and Alex Tagliani brought home the top five. Like race winner Dumoulin, it was the best career oval finish for Tagliani.

McColm salvaged a sixth-place finish, followed by Fitzpatrick, D.J. Kennington, Noel Dowler and Eric Thiering.

It was shaping up to be a second straight victory at Auto Clearing for Steckly, who paced both practices and captured the pole earlier in the day. The defending event and series champion led the first 80 circuits from the pole and a race-high 153 in total. He had a commanding lead late in the race as he led 72 laps during an extended green-flag run -- putting all but five other cars down a lap -- before the final caution came out.

McColm and Dumoulin had pitted much earlier in the race (Dumoulin on Lap 36) for their right side tires; drivers were allowed a maximum of two tires for this event. That left them out to fend off the challenge of Steckly and Co. on fresh tires.

The race featured eight lead changes among five different drivers. Dumoulin's only two laps led were the last two of the event.

The Velocity Prairie Thunder 250 will premiere on TSN on Saturday, July 26 at 3 p.m. and on RDS2 on Sunday, Aug. 3 at 5 p.m.

The Canadian Tire Series will return to action on Saturday, July 26 at Autodrome St. Eustache (Quebec) with the National 250.

Waterbury, VT – The International 300 this weekend (July 20, 2014) at Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, New York will be full of ACT young stars who are making big statements on the American Canadian Tour (ACT) short tracks around the region. As a group, they have won some Tour races and weekly track events; they are also the future of short track stock car racing in the Northeast.

Vermonters Jimmy Hebert and Bobby Therrien are both former Thunder Road Tiger Sportsman Champions. They each won Rookie of the Year honors on the ACT US Tour and have also won ACT US races; in fact, Hebert has two wins in the record book in his first two years of competition.

Long-time car builder and owner of the Fast One team, which Bobby Therrien races for, Pete Duto said, "I think the three segment "Milk Bowl" kind of race really gives the younger teams a pretty good chance to have a good day. It is a little more like a weekly race, which most of the younger guys/(girls) started in, and there is not a whole lot of strategy other than to go fast and turn left. The key is to stay out of trouble and finish. If you can manage to do that, you can give yourself a chance for a decent day."

Kyle Welch from Newport, NH, in his first year racing full-time on the ACT US, won the Riverside Speedway 150-lap event in June this year. His family team is currently 8th in the overall point standings. He enters the International this weekend after a solid 6th place finish in the final tour race prior to the International, which was held at the White Mountain Motorsports Park (NH) in June.

Two battling seventeen year-olds, E. Montpelier Vermont's Emily Packard and Au Sable, New York's Brandon Atkins have each shown the ability to compete up front with the veterans. Packard is coming off a weekly win at Devil's Bowl Speedway in West Haven, VT-- she currently sits third in overall points on the US Tour. Consistency has helped her to three top five finishes in the first six ACT races of the 2014 campaign. Atkins has finished fourth in the Riverisde 150 in June and is coming off a weekly win at Airborne last week.

Victoire émotive de Martin Latulippe

La température était superbe, les gradins étaient remplis et les pilotes ACT ont livré la

marchandise !

Les pilotes de la Beauce étaient nombreux et ils n'y étaient pas pour faire de la figuration.

Le jeune pilote de St-Jérome, Dave Coursol en a profité pour signer sa première victoire en

qualification. Alex Labbé et Sylvain Lacombe ont eu aussi remporté leur « qualif ».

Très rapide tout au long de la journée, Steven Boissonneault, a quant à lui offert toute une

performance en terminant en deuxième position. Boissonneault s'est battu toute la soirée à

l'avant plan, des luttes serrées et excitantes avec Labbé et Latulippe, mais toujours proprement.

Alex Labbé complète le podium malgré une crevaison lente. Les deux frères Cliche, Etienne et

Marc-André ont très bien performé hier soir sur la piste inclinée de Vallée Jonction en terminant

quatrième et cinquième.

Donald Theetge (6ieme) et Martin Goulet Jr. (7ieme) ont eux aussi livré de très belles batailles.

Daniel Descoste, Jonathan Bouvrette et Dany Trépanier complètent le top dix.

À l'intérieur comme à l'extérieur, les pilotes s'en sont donnés à cœur joie. Il y avait de très

bonnes luttes un peu partout sur la piste.

Martin Latulippe était très émotif après sa victoire, lui qui a pris les commandes au 82ieme

passage. Beaucoup de travail a été fait sur sa voiture, pour ne pas dire que TOUT le travail a été

fait en 3 jours. En plus de remercier ses équipiers et sa famille, cette victoire lui donne le laisser

passer pour participer à la course à Loudon au New Hampshire.

Les spectateurs présents ont assurément assisté à la meilleure performance de la série ACT

cette saison.

Prochaine course, dimanche le 20 juillet à Plattsburgh, alors que 25 000$ sera remis au

pilote gagnant des trois épreuves de la journée. Nous nous attendons à une forte délégation

québécoise lors de cet évènement. Jonathan Bouvrette qui a terminé en 2ieme position lors de

sa dernière présence au Airbone Speedway, aimerait bien aller chercher les $$ américains du

ACT international 300 de Plattsburgh.

Toonie Admission/Fan Appreciation Night Returns to Peterborough Speedway this Weekend

Just toss your toonie on the counter and head inside.

Saturday, July 19th Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval hosts another of this year's Toonie Grandstand Admission/Fan Appreciation Nights, presented by Pepsi. Race action includes the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Peterborough Hyundai Mini Stock, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car, Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model and Inex Ontario Legend divisions. At intermission, the pit gates will be opened-up and cars will be brought to the front stretch for a popular autograph session. Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says it's a wonderful opportunity for the fans to meet the drivers they proudly support week after week.

"The drivers in every division put on a great show every time the green flag waves and they appreciate the support they get from the fans," said Josiasse. "Fan Appreciation Nights are a perfect time to show how much that backing really means. The effort they put forward to provide and sign photos, hand out candy and other assorted treats is something the fans are always thankful for and the drivers enjoy it as well."

As the second half of the season gets underway, drivers will be looking for every possible advantage to help them land the 2014 track championship. Point battles are tighter now than they've been in years and it appears that there is a fairly level playing field in each class. After a hot streak that saw him log a number of Renegade Truck victories early on, Jack Dallin has showed he has the ability to play well with others. Anthony DiBello has picked-up a trio of Thunder Car checkered flags, but will also likely face a solid fight for a seat at the head table when the title holder's hardware is handed out. Consistency will be the key when it comes to claiming the crown.

The Toonie Grandstand Admission/Fan Appreciation Night is always a popular event and to accommodate the anticipated crowd volume, Peterborough Speedway officials have announced a revised schedule from what was posted in the original version released at the start of the year. Everything has been moved ahead one hour, with pit gates opening at 2:00and spectator grandstands unlocked at 4:00. Racing will begin at 5:00. Looking ahead on the schedule, the Saturday, July 26th program will feature the Parry Spring Service Renegade Truck, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car, Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model and Inex Ontario Legend divisions and a 100 lap endurance event.

Airborne Park Speedway Announces Modified Disqualifications

Gonyo inherits July 12 victory

SOUTH PLATTSBURGH, NY – Airborne Park Speedwayhas announced the disqualification of two cars from the Ernie's Discount Tools DIRTcar 358-Modified feature race on ESPN Radio 101.3/Whelen Engineering Night on Saturday, July 12. After post-race inspection following Saturday's race, the cars of Jessey Mueller and Aaron Bartemy were each found with engine violations.

After crossing the finish line in first place, the DIRTcar "spec"engine in Mueller's No. 19 car was discovered to haveunapproved porting in the cylinder heads, a violation of the 2014DIRTcar rulebook (section 15.1.2). The violation was discovered in the initial inspection process at Airborne Park Speedway and later verified during a second inspection by officials from DIRTcarNortheast.

Bartemy originally finished the race in third place, but his No. B3 car was found to have its carburetor height measuring higher than the maximum allowable 7" from the engine block (section 15.1.5).

As a result of the infractions, both Mueller and Bartemy have been disqualified from their finishes in the feature race and have been stripped of all championship points and purse money from the race. Leon Gonyo, the original second-place finisher, has been named the official race winner. Mike Wells, Chris Cayea, Andy Heywood, and Vince Quenneville, Jr., will now round out the official top five finishers.

Airborne Park Speedway hosts a two-day weekend of action on Saturday, July 19 and Sunday, July 20, with the second annual American-Canadian Tour "International" weekend. The event kicks off on Saturday night with the Black Cat Hell Drivers Thrill Show at 8:00 p.m.

Sunday is action-packed with a three-segment, $25,000-to-win ACT Late Model race, 50-lap events for the J&S Steel Sportsman Modified and Pro-Cam Super Truck divisions, and twin 25-lap races for the Thunder Road Tiger Sportsmen. Racing begins at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.

Dominic Jacques remporte sa 2e victoire consécutive

C'est ce samedi, le 12 juillet que ce tenait le programmequi soulignait la mi-saison de la Série Sportsman Québec Lucas Oil à l'Autodrome Chaudière de Vallée-Jonction

C'est avec un nombre de 21 voitures Sportsman que la journée a débuté.

Dès le début des séances de pratiques le #67 Dominic Jacques et le #33 Philippe Poulin se sont démarqués enregistrant les meilleurs temps avec le #1 Tony Côté.

Les séances de qualifications se sont déroulées dans unediscipline appréciée des dirigeants de la Série. Sont sortis gagnant le #27 Marco Savoie, le #17 Jimmy Nadeau et le #67 Dominic Jacques.

Jacques dominant sur toute la ligne

Partant en 2e position en finale, le #67 Dominic Jacques de Vallée-Jonction, commandité principalement par Claude Boutin Services Sanitaires, a connu une journée parfaite! Réalisant d'excellents temps en pratique, victorieux en séance de qualification, Jacques a mené la finale du début à la fin. Filant à toute allure sur la piste, paraissant parfois même intouchable, il va chercher sa 2e victoire consécutive et ce, sur sa piste.

Le retour du #95 Steve Lesage paraissait presque irréalisable après les accidents qu'il a subit sur la piste d'Icar la semaine derrière. Ce pilote de Neuville et son équipe ont travaillé d'arrache-pied pour être présent et on pourra dire que leur travail a été récompensé. Commandité principalement par Ardem Démolition, Lesage qui était partie en 10e position a remonté le peloton de façon brillante pour terminer au 2e rang de cette finale.

C'est le #33 Philippe Poulin de Saint-Georges de Beauce qui termine le podium. Connaissant une saison exceptionnelle, Poulin commandité principalement par Les Équipements Sigma inc, a encore une fois performé devant les siens. Malgré la forte compétition, il est resté centré sur son objectif et s'est hissé en 3e position.

Jimmy Nadeau #17 commandité principalement par Lucas Oil termine la course en 4e position. Ce vétéran est bien déterminé à remonter au classement général et nous l'a bien démontré lors de cette épreuve.

On ne pourrait passer sous silence la performance du #40 Sylvain Labbé de Saint-Joseph. Le pilote commandité principalement par Iga Veilleux Ste-Marie et St-Appolinaire n'a participé qu'à quelques programmes cette année mais s'est définitivement fait remarqué hier. L'an dernier, ce pilote a connu malchance par-dessus malchance, c'est avec beaucoup de fierté qu'il a terminé en 5e position lui qui était partie en 12e position. Verrons-nous le #40 revenir en piste de façon régulière pour la prochaine saison?

Était présent pour la première fois cette année le #1 Tony Côté. Ce pilote participe d'année en année à quelques programmes lors des présences de la Série à l'Autodrome Chaudière. Chaque présence est toujours remarquée et appréciée des spectateurs. Côté qui connait la piste comme nul autre a réalisé le 2e meilleur temps des pratiques. Il a mené de chaudes luttes au meneur et nous a offert un spectacle à couper le souffle.

La Série Sportsman tient à souligner la victoire du #84 Martin Latulippe lors de l'épreuve de la Série ACT LMS. Étant par l'entremise de l'entreprise familiale, Frameco, non seulement un commanditaire de la Série mais aussi le fournisseur officiel des pneus et ancien champion Sportsman des pneus nous sommes fiers d'avoir été présent pour le voir accéder au podium!

Après 4 programmes consécutifs, la Série Sportsman prend une semaine de pause. Nous vous retrouverons donc le 26 juillet à l'Autodrome Saint-Félicien pour une épreuve qui mettra à l'honneur le pilote Karl Allard; le pilote le plus titré de la région du Lac St-Jean. Pour cette occasion, il sera à bord de la voiture #7A au couleur de NAPA. Plus de détails vous seront communiqué ultérieurement.

Peltier Ends PASS South Drought With Hard Fought Win At Southern National

KENLY, NC (July 12) – Preston Peltier survived a furious battle with Tyler Church and Jared Irvan in the Southern National 150 to claim his first Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model win in over a year Saturday night at Southern National Motorsports Park. The win was Peltier's first since winning the 2013 Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory Motor Speedway and pushed his PASS South career wins total to 11, tops among all drivers.

"Man, I tell ya, I just drove as hard as I could and these guys never stopped believing in me," said Peltier after his first ever PASS South win at Southern National. "I hope he [Church] isn't mad at me, I didn't give him any room that's for sure. I needed this win in a bad way and I thank Tyler for driving me clean."

Peltier started then evening off in fine form claiming his 15^th career PASS South quick qualifying time with a lap 94.259 miles per hour around the high banked,4/10 mile speedway. Following the top 10 qualifiers redraw, Peltier would slot into the fourth starting position while rookie Zane Smith and veteran Brandon Ward moved up to the front row.

At the drop of the green flag, Ward jumped into the lead as the field headed into turn one. Ward would dominate the early stages of the Southern National 150 as the rest of the field plotted varying strategies to try and claim victory. While Peltier and Church slid back in the top 10, rookie Kiel Spaulding quickly made his way up from 11^th starting position into the top five.

Laps clicked off quickly until the first caution of the night waved on lap 94 when Tanner Rumburg's Chevrolet came to a stop on the backstretch. Ward led on the restart, but his first challenge of the night came fromTrevor Noles and Jared Irvan. On lap 97, Ward and Noles made slight contact just past the start/finish line allowing Irvan to move into the lead entering turn one. At this point, Peltier, Church, and Tate Fogleman were making a charge towards the top five, while Spaulding and Smith had faded.

Irvan continued to lead through the race's second caution when Tyler Dippel spun exiting turn two with 23 laps to go. Irvan led the field to green, but by this time, Peltier and Church had made their way up to second and third respectively. Despite having the preferred groove, Irvan gave way to Peltier who moved into the lead with a strong run on the outside with 21 laps to go. Eventually, Church and Fogleman were both able to move by Irvan and set their sights on Peltier.

The final caution of the night waved with 7 laps to go for debris in turn two and set up a classic shoot out for the win. Peltier and Church raced hard, making contact on several occasions, but Peltier was able to pull out by a couple of car lengths after contact with Church as they exited turn two. Peltier held off Church to take the win over Fogleman, Brandon Setzer, and Irvan. Rounding out the top ten were Jody Measamer, Ward, Noles, Cole Timm, and Tyler Audie.

In the PASS Pro Late Model division, Kodie Conner passed Jeff Batten on lap 13 and led the rest of the way for his second straight win. Several cars were eliminated on lap 14 when Batten and Mason Diaz collided in turn two causing Diaz's car to go up and over Batten's hood. Following Conner at the finish were fast qualifier Lucas Jones, Zachary Dabbs, Walker Yates, and Nick Robinson.

The PASS South Super Late Models will be in action again on Saturday, August 16, at South Boston Speedway along with Twin 75s for the NASCAR Late Model Stocks. And don't forget, the best Super Late Model racers in North America will vie for over $25,000 this weekend with the 41^st Annual Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine. Steckly Finishes Eighth in Edmonton

Round four in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 took place on Friday at Edmonton International Raceway. Steckly driving the Canadian Tire/Mobil 1 Dodge finished eighth after battling back from a two lap deficit.

Practice went well for Steckly in his 22 Racing entry as he finished first practice in the top spot and was runner up in practice number two. "The car is really good but I think we are going to find it difficult to pass in the race so qualifying up front will be important."

Qualifying didn't go quite as planned as the Canadian Tire Dodge was seventh quickest, lining them up on the inside of row four for the start of the Alberta Has Energy 300.

The 300 lap race was going according to plan as Steckly continued to move to the front, challenging race leader and teammate Tagliani for the lead. After the lap 141 competition caution for tires and fuel Steckly was again working his way to the front when a rear end oil line came off the car. The 22 Racing crew quickly went to work and had Steckly back on track only two laps down. Now the work would begin to get those laps back. While the cautions came to allow him to get his laps back the race was reaching its conclusion and an eighth place result was posted.

"We had a great car tonight," said Steckly. "The result doesn't reflect how good a car we had. My crew did an incredible job of getting the car fixed and back out losing only the two laps. We will head to Saskatoon and go for the win again."

The Alberta Has Energy 300 from Edmonton International Raceway will air Sun. July 20^th at 3 p.m. ETon TSN and Sat. July 26^th at 3 p.m. on RDS2.

Next up for the Canadian Tire/Mobil 1 team will be Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon on Wednesday July 16^th where Steckly is the defending race winner.
