Une saison des plus compétitive pour les pilotes ACT

C'est dans le cadre de la première course de la Triple Couronne qui mettra aux prises les meilleurs pilotes canadiens et américains de l'ACT, le Spring Green 115, au Airborne Park Speedway, de Plattsburgh NY, qu'aura lieu le lancement de la saison 2015 de l'ACT.

 

Lors de cette même épreuve en sol américain, disputée au printemps 2014, c'est le pilote de Blainville, Jonathan Bouvrette, de l'ACT-Québec,  qui s'était le plus illustré aux commandes de la voiture 41QC, lors d'une fin de course digne d'un des meilleurs photo finish, aux cotés du vainqueur, l'américain Ray Parent et sa voiture no. 17. Pour 2015, les dirigeants de la série s'attendent à une participation importante des pilotes québécois pour cette série de trois courses disputées en sol américain, une triple couronne comportant un bonis de 10 000$ additionnel à leur fond de points, que se partageront les pilotes québécois qui participeront à toutes les courses de la saison.

 

Sylvain Brouillette et Jean-François Fredette, dirigeants de l'ACT Québec, s'attendent à une saison des plus compétitives avec l'arrivée de plusieurs nouveaux visages, dont Charles Harvey (77), Paul Jean (02) et autres, en plus des têtes d'affiche,  Jonathan Bouvrette (41), Claude Leclerc (11) et autres qui se présenteront avec de nouveaux bolides pour faire la lutte au champion Alex Labbé (48), Dany Trépanier (19) Patrtick Laperle (91), Karl Allard (7) en plus de plusieurs autres réguliers de la série.

 

Le signal du premier départ à Plattsburgh sera donné dès 17h00, Le tout sera précédé de sessions de pratiques dont l'horaire détaillé sera publié dès que la piste Airborne Speedway nous en fournira les détails.

 

La première course de la saison en sol Québécois aura lieu le 23 mai à l'Autodrome St-Eustache. Si on se fie à la liste des équipes qui se sont manifestées, on s'attend à des grilles de départ  de 20 à 25 voitures et plus tout au long de la saison.

 

Du côté de la série Procam-Super Truck, propulsée par Carbopoxy qui ne participeront finalement pas à la triple couronne américaine, ils entameront la saison 2015 le 6 juin prochain au Riverside Speedway de Ste-Croix. Au moment d'écrire ces lignes, 18 équipes ont confirmé leur présence.

 

C'est donc un rendez-vous en sol américain, ce samedi 16 mai pour cette confrontation ACT Canada vs USA où l'action sera au rendez-vous.

London driver Mark Sammut has his fingers crossed for a hometown victory when the World's Most Powerful Short Track Cars, the winged ISMA Super Modifieds, invade Delaware Speedway on Friday night for the 2015 season opener for the series and the track sponsored by Carstar Collision and Glass Service.  

Sammut took the historic half-mile on Monday evening for hot laps to try to get the jump on the competition: the only super modified driver to do so at Delaware during pre-season thunder.  ISMA officials reported to the track on Tuesday that a strong field is expected for Friday's event with twenty-two drivers officially confirming their attendance in advance.  The two-race Harvey Lennox Memorial features one race in May and another in August with Delaware set as the only Canadian stop for the ISMA tour this season.

"This car hasn't even been run this year until today," explained Sammut.  "This car is pretty old actually.  It was new for the 2002 season and we've won six races with it over the years.  Some nights it's great, other nights… Not so great."

Sammut and his team have a new car being put together to replace their existing vehicle.  The assembly of the new car is no easy task.  Everything about a Super Modified is custom and done up completely for racing.  There is no factory that builds these incredible 800+ horsepower winged vehicles and no two are exactly alike: something fans are sure to notice during Friday evening's autograph session when they can get up close to the cars and meet their daring drivers.

Super Modified racing is particularly special at Delaware Speedway.  The track itself was reconfigured in the 1960s by track promoter and Super Modified driver, Jack Greedy, to its current half-mile length specifically to accommodate Super Modified competition.

"This is huge here at Delaware, you can see every year the stands are full," added Sammut.  "Looking back to the 60s and 70s when Delaware ran Supers on a regular basis, there's still a lot of those people around that come out to see them every time.  There's a lot of history here and a lot of legends made themselves at Delaware."

The track and a grassroots organization called "Yesterday's Speedways" are set to celebrate that history on Friday evening.  The Super Modifieds visit Delaware twice this season as part of a series dubbed the Harvey Lennox Memorial.  Lennox, a famous driver from the golden age of Super Modified racing at Delaware, will be honoured through a special display of classic Super Modifieds as well as through the attendance of a number of legendary drivers.  Lennox passed away during the off-season but was recognized by fans at the Delaware as the grand marshal of the event last August.

Mark Sammut would love to see his name added to the list of legendary drivers close to home.  A victory as part of the Carstar Collision and Glass Service Harvey Lennox Memorial Series would be a step in the right direction.  Sammut has taken home a win in Canada before, with a Cayuga Speedway victory in 2009, but has never won at Delaware.

"It's great to be able to run at home and maybe one day we'll put our name on a feature win here," he said.  "We've been close here a few times.  We've been knocking on the door and maybe Friday night it'll be our turn."

The Carstar Collision and Glass Harvey Lennox Memorial is set to run at Delaware Speedway on Friday evening.  If the event is unable to run on Friday evening as a result of weather, the race will run on Saturday.  Tickets are available though the track website www.delawarespeedway.com or at the gate the night of the race.

Montréal, 12 mai 2015 - Alex Tagliani étant retenu à Indianapolis pour les qualifications des 500 miles, qui seront présentées ce week-end du 16 et 17 mai, il était important de trouver un remplaçant pour la voiture #18 de l'équipe Tagliani Autosport/EpiPen/CGI. 


Pier-Luc Ouellette de Terrebonne, Québec, double champion du monde de karting en catégorie DD2 du Rotax Max Challenge, sera donc en piste sur le circuit ontarien de Mosport, au nord-est de Toronto pour amorcer ce dimanche 17 mai, la saison 2015 de la Série NASCAR Canadian Tire. Pour cette première épreuve, Alexandre Tagliani permettra à un jeune pilote québécois de faire ses débuts dans cette série.


« Je suis heureux de confier la voiture à Pier-Luc. Je le connais depuis plusieurs années et je suis convaincu qu'il fera de l'excellent travail. C'est un pilote rapide, mais surtout conscient de la tâche qu'il aura à accomplir. L'équipe lui fournira une voiture avec laquelle il pourra rivaliser avec les meilleurs, » de commenter le pilote de Lachenaie.


« Je suis vraiment reconnaissant et très honoré qu'Alex me propose de le remplacer pour cette épreuve. J'avais participé à quelques événements dans la série Super Truck, mais la participation à cette course sera certainement une étape importante pour la poursuite de ma carrière, » confiait Pier-Luc lors de notre conversation téléphonique.


Le circuit de Mosport est à la fois rapide et technique. Sa combinaison de virages rapides, ces longues lignes droites entrecoupées de quelques virages lents, permet d'exprimer pleinement le potentiel des pilotes et des voitures. On se rappellera qu'Alexandre Tagliani avait établi le record du tour pour décrocher la position de tête lors de la qualification de l'épreuve de camionnette de la Série NASCAR Camping World, au mois d'août 2014.

Waterbury, VT—The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) U.S. Late Model Tour and the Quebec-based Série ACT head to Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY this Saturday, May 16 for the Spring Green 115. The combination event is the 2015 season opener for the Canadian series, and a full contingent of Quebec competitors is expected to make the trek across the border.

 

Defending Série ACT Champion Alex Labbe of St-Albert, QC leads the Canadian charge into the fast ½-mile oval. The 2013 Fall Foliage 200 Airborne winner got an early start to 2015 by finishing fourth in the New Hampshire Governor's Cup 150 at Lee USA Speedway on April 26.

 

"We're going to try to defend our title this year, and I'm pretty confident," the 22-year-old said. "There's going to be a lot of good cars, and a lot of tough guys that are going to come back. It's going to be really interesting, but I'm sure we can defend it."

The event marks the return of the Spring Green to Airborne after being run at West Haven, VT's Devil's Bowl Speedway the past four years. It's also the first of four combination events this season between ACT's U.S. and Quebec Tours.

 

"It's a fun thing," Labbe said of the events. "I'm sure we're going to have more cars, and Airborne is a nice track to race with a lot of cars. There's a lot of places to pass and it gives a great show."

 

The 115-lap event is a prelude to the 3rd Annual ACT International on July 18 and 19, which will bring together the ACT Late Models and the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Models for a pair of 200-lap, $10,000-to-win races. In addition, it's the first event for the Triple Crown, which posts more than $10,000 for the top-performing Série ACT 100%ers in the three ACT-sanctioned events at Airborne.

 

Labbe is not the only Quebecer who will be a threat. Jonathan Bouvrette just missed a victory in last Spring's 100-lap Airborne event, losing to Ray Parent in a photo finish. 2013 Série ACT Champion Jean-François Déry finished fifth in both previous ACT Internationals. Two-time Série ACT Champion Donald Theetge, along with multi-time winners Patrick Cliche and Dany Trepanier, should also be competitive.

 

The ACT U.S. Tour will counter with their own talented group led by New Hampshire veterans Wayne Helliwell Jr. and Joey Polewarczyk Jr. Two-time Tour Champion Helliwell leads the point standings, with defending ACT Champion "Joey Pole" 19 markers behind. Both drivers are past winners of the Fall Foliage 200 at Airborne.

 

Veteran Jeff White has also impressed in his second full season on the ACT Tour and is currently tied for third in points with Brad Babb. White finished eighth in last spring's Airborne event in his second trip to the speedway, then improved to fifth in the Fall Foliage 200.

 

"I like (Airborne)," White said. "It's a driver's track. You can run different lanes, and it's just a lot of fun.

 

"I grew up racing at one track (Oxford) all my life, so I think it's fun to go to all these different places," he added. "We just keep working with our notes that we take every time we go. I like mixing it up."

 

Young drivers such as Babb, Emily Packard, and Travis Stearns have impressed early in the season and will factor into the final outcome. Meanwhile, Jimmy Hebert will try to rebound from a wreck at Lee USA Speedway and a disappointing showing at Thunder Road. Kyle Welch is also looking for redemption after losing multiple top-10 finishes to late-race malfunctions.

 

The 41st Annual Spring Green 115 for the ACT Tour and Série ACT will be held on Saturday, May 16 at Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY. Airborne's weekly Modifieds, Renegades, and Mini-Mods will also be on tap. A previously scheduled appearance by the ACT Série ProCam Super Trucks has been cancelled. Post time is 5:00pm.

Les Lightning Sprint ainsi que les mod-lite feront partie du spectacle à l'Autodrome Drummond en 2015.

Bien que depuis plusieurs saisons, on les voit sillonner le circuit de l'Autodrome Drummond, la série Lightning Sprint a décidé de participer à la saison 2015 de façon plus agressive.

Tout d'abord ils seront en action à chacun des programmes de la 65e saison de l'Autodrome, et ce avec 2 programmes spéciaux. Celui qui a fait le plus jaser pendant la saison morte est certes leur participation à la soirée du 22 aout prochain, alors qu'ils seront ''Topless'' pour une 1e fois de leur histoire. En effet dans le cadre de la Soirée du cancer du Sein du Québec, la direction de la série à bien voulut se joindre à la catégorie modifié et se dénuder! On aura droit à une soirée de course complète sans '' Wing'' du côté de la série. Une autre grosse soirée pour cette série qui ne cesse de grandir est le 25 juillet alors que l'Autodrome Drummond sera l'hôte d'une soirée Canada-Usa avec la visite de leur compatriote américain.

Le champion 2014, Alex Therrien défendra son titre de la série, lui qui a connu beaucoup de succès du côté de l'Autodrome en 2014. Il ne faut pas oublier la recrue de l'an passé Charles-David Dumont de même que les jeunes pilotes de la relève comme Jordan Poirier et Alex Vigneault qui se joindront au groupe impressionnant de prétendant à la victoire semaine après semaine du côté de cette série.

Du côté de la série Mod-lite, ils seront en action à 4 reprises du côté du tracé de l'Autodrome Drummond avec une participation bien spécial. En effet le 27 juin leur voiture sera munie de Side Panel tout comme les modifié. On attend plusieurs voitures à chacune de leur visite, eux qui en seront à leur 2e saison à titre d'invité du côté de l'Autodrome.

Comme vous voyez, tout est en place afin que ces 2  séries vous offrent encore une fois cette saison beaucoup d'action sur la piste en plus de quelques prestations originales comme leur participation à la soirée Topless et Side Panel ainsi que la soirée Canada-Usa qui mettra en vedette les meilleurs pilotes de chaque côté de la frontière.

64-year-old Maine racing legend Mike Rowe has been involved in his fair share of battles throughout his year's winning Super Late Model races in the Northeast.  On Saturdaynight at Star Speedway, Rowe was involved in one of the most exhausting battles of his career as he battled it out for the lead against his son, Ben Rowe, on the quarter-mile Epping, New Hampshire bullring.

 

The battle was one that had fans on their feet.  It was one that involved multiple taps to the back of his No. 7 Petit Motorsports machine.  But in the end, it was a thrilling battle that the elder Rowe came out on top of as he fended off his son to win his second Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North event of the 2015 season.

 

"My spotter was telling me where he was and Ben has a little more smoke than I do, he's got a little more motor than I do," Rowe told Speed51.com powered by JEGS.  "He got into me a couple times and I knew he wouldn't spin me being my kid.  I am really happy for him.  He had been struggling for a while and I'm just glad he's going well.  It was fun racing with him whether I finished first or he did.  It was an awesome race."

 

Father and son swapped the lead on three different occasions between lap 51 and lap 86 of the 150-lap event.  Mike Rowe took the lead for the final time on lap 86 but the battle between the two was just getting started.

 

The younger Rowe tried the bottom, the top, whatever he could do to get by his father as the laps winded down.  The two made slight contact on a number of occasions, but each time they touched they allowed each other enough room to gather it up and continue their battle.

 

"It's bittersweet," Ben Rowe said after the race.  "I wanted to win in the worst race.  But if I can't win, those guys are the ones I want to see win.  That's why we race.  I was better than he was, there was no doubt.  If I could have got by him, I would have been cleared.  But I knew once he got by me that it was going to be difficult."

 

David Oliver was able to get by Ben Rowe in the closing laps to claim the second spot, while Rowe held on to complete the podium.  Defending PASS North champion DJ Shaw and six-time series champion Johnny Clark completed the top-five.

 

After the race, the younger Rowe admitted that he gave his dad a little more leeway than he would have given any of the other 29 competitors on the race track.

 

"If anyone else would have been blocking that bad, I would have moved them out of the way," Rowe said with a laugh.  "He knows what he's got to do and he knows that I wouldn't do that to him.  That's why he's the king and why we're still chasing him."

 

Despite making contact on a number of occasions, it was all smiles for the Rowe family in victory lane after the race.  In the end, the two were able to laugh about it and enjoy the moment of racing hard for the race win.

 

"We were banging into each other," said Rowe.  "On those restarts, he wasn't given me much and I didn't give him a lot.  But we wouldn't ever take each other out.  It's just awesome to be racing with him and having that much fun.  It was a lot, a lot of fun racing with him."

 

The win for Mike Rowe is his second of the season with his new Petit Motorsports team.  At the beginning of the season, the veteran racer from Turner, Maine wasn't exactly sure of how strong the team would be.  Needless to say, after two races, he's quite pleased with his move to a new team.

 

"I knew we had a great team right off from Oxford," he said.  "The crew did a hell of a job for me today.  It takes more than the driver and right now we're hitting on all cylinders."

 

Although Rowe gives a lot of credit to his crew, there's no doubting the level of talent behind the wheel of the No. 7 PASS North Super Late Model.  After an exciting battle on Saturday night, his son was the first to give credit to the "old man."

 

"He is the toughest son of a gun ever to race with.  He gets everything out of a race car.  He's the best and that's why."

Veteran Drivers Dominate Devil's Bowl Speedway Season Opener

Proctor, Gonyo, each 61, finish 1-2 in Modified 100

WEST HAVEN, VT – The youth movement was put on hold at Devil's Bowl Speedway on Saturday night, May 9, as the two oldest drivers at the speedway ran away at the front of the pack.  Two-time Bond Auto Parts Modified division champion Ron Proctor and long-time racer Leon Gonyo – each of whom turns 62 years old soon – finished 1-2 in the 100-lap main event kick off the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series campaign.

The race was the second of seven events in the two-track "Spring Championship Series" presented by Yandow Sales & Service and John Deere.  Charlton, NY veteran Proctor put on a clinic to win his qualifying heat, the bonus-points semi-feature, and the 100-lapper for a rare "triple crown" win.

Proctor had both a fast car and good fortune.  He was running a close second to leader Bucko Branham at lap 46 when three lapped cars tangled in their path.  Branham spun his car to avoid the crash, but a small electrical fire inside his car during the caution period put him out of the race; he was uninjured.

As racing resumed, new leader Proctor's biggest worry was lapped traffic.  Gonyo, of Chazy, NY, came from deep in the starting order to second place and closed to within five car lengths of Proctor, but was never able to mount a serious challenge and settled for the runner-up spot.

Nick Heywood of Plattsburgh, NY saw his tough day end well; the winner of the Airborne opener blew an engine during afternoon practice and missed his qualifying heat. After starting 14th in the main event in a backup car, he finished a strong third.  Vermonters Joey Roberts and Vince Quenneville, Jr. rounded out the top five, followed by Greg Atkins, Cody Sargen, rookie Timex Morgan, Jason Durgan, and Jamie LaFountain.

Heywood holds a four-point lead, 109-105, on Atkins heading to the third Spring Championship Series event at Airborne Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY on Saturday, May 16.  Quenneville is another two points back at 103, followed by Durgan and Morgan.

Eighteen year-old Brandon Atkins of Au Sable Forks, NY won the 50-lap race for the Central Vermont Motorcycles Late Model division.  Atkins held control for most of the race, but was forced to contend with Josh Masterson of Bristol, VT after a late restart.  Atkins used the outside lane to his advantage and went on the win.  Masterson was second ahead of Todd Stone, Robert Bryant, Jr., and 2014 champion Jamie Fisher.

Richie Turner of Fairfax, VT made it two-for-two to open his season by winning the 25-lap feature for the Brileya's Chrysler-Jeep Renegade division; Turner also won the Airborne opener on May 2.  Keith O'Neil of Mooers, NY made his first visit to Devil's Bowl Speedway count by winning his qualifying heat and taking second place in the feature.  Sixteen year-old Dylan Rabtoy of Swanton, VT nipped Jason McClatchie for third place by less than a foot in a thrilling, fender-banging duel.  Track champion Robert Gordon finished fifth.

Dale O'Neil of Mooers, NY one-upped his father Keith by winning the 15-lap feature for the Portland Glass Mini Stocks, marking his first victory at Devil's Bowl.  Defending champion Chuck Bradford of Addison, VT finished second ahead of C.J. LaVair, John McCarron, and Jake Noble.

Action resumes at Devil's Bowl Speedway on Saturday, May 23 as Brileya's Chrysler-Jeep presents a 100-lap Renegade race, along with a wild-and-crazy Enduro for strictly stock cars.  Modifieds, Late Models, and Mini Stocks are also on the card, as well as guided pit area tours for the Thomas Dairy Kids Club.  General admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and free for kids age 12 and under; racing begins at 6:00 p.m.
