WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil's Bowl Speedway played host to a some wild stock car racing action under a full moon on Friday, July 31, and saw two first-time winners on Allen Pools & Spas Night.  The event kicked off the second half of the season for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series presented by Yandow Sales & Service and John Deere.

Veteran drivers Leon Gonyo of Chazy, NY and Greg Atkins of Clintonville, NY split a pair of 20-lap "shootout" feature races for the Bond Auto Parts Modified division.  In the opening race Billy Lussier held the early lead and began to stretch out before a caution period with five laps complete bunched the field for a restart.  Gonyo pounced to seize the lead and then drove away for his second victory of the season.  Vince Quenneville Jr. finished second.  Joey Roberts survived an early scrape with Codie Aubin to finish third, followed by Jimmy Ryan and Ron Proctor.

In the nightcap, Ryan took the lead after Roberts and Aubin came together again on lap 3 and held off a spirited drive by Atkins in the first half of the race.  Atkins finally completed his pass for the lead at lap 12, then sped away to take the first Devil's Bowl win of his long career.  Proctor was the runner-up, followed by Quenneville, Ryan, and Lussier.

Proctor continues to lead the track championship standings, though Quenneville was able to trim his deficit from 14 points down to just nine (548-539).  Atkins moved into third place, 29 points behind Proctor.  Atkins' win will also help him stay near the top of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national standings; he ranks ninth out of more than 1,000 drivers at nearly 60 short tracks across North America.

Seventeen year-old rookie Richard Lowrey III of Charlotte, VT became the seventh different winner in as many races in the Central Vermont Motorcycles Late Model division after an intense finish.  Seth Bridge led the first 23 laps uncontested and looked like a first-time winner before the action heated up behind him, when point leader Josh Masterson got turned around to bring out the caution flag.  Bridge held the lead for four laps after the restart but faced heavy pressure from Lowrey, Todd Stone, Steve Miller, and others.  Bridge then got turned around himself and nailed the inside retaining wall to set up a green-white-checkered finish.

Lowrey and Miller produced hard, clean racing over the final two laps before Lowrey scooted ahead to take the popular victory. Miller finished second, and Masterson rebounded in impressive fashion in the final seven laps to finish third.  Former champion Chris Bergeron finished fourth with Robert Bryant Jr. fifth.  Masterson leads Bryant by 46 points (422-376) for the championship, with Miller another 19 back in third.

Robert Gordon of Milton, VT won an ever-changing two-segment race for the Brileya's Chrysler-Jeep Renegade division.  The defending champion finished second in each of the two 15-lap, cumulatively scored runs to earn a low total of four segment points. He battled the entire distance in tight quarters with segment winners Scott FitzGerald and Jimmy Bushey, and rookies Matt Monaghan and Shawn Franklin.  FitzGerald scored five segment points (first, fourth) to take the overall runner-up position.  Bushey and Monaghan each earned six points, and Bushey earned the tiebreaker by winning the second leg to take third place overall.

Chuck Bradford of Addison, VT was a popular winner in the 15-lap Portland Glass Mini Stock feature.  Bradford snapped a five-race win streak by Chris LaVair and earned a $100 "bounty" bonus in the process.  The action was non-stop as Bradford, LaVair, John McCarron, and Harold LaVair ran in a tight group up front.  Bradford passed Chris LaVair on the outside to take the lead on lap 12, then LaVair's car shut down on the final lap.  Harold LaVair took the runner-up spot with McCarron third.  Kyle Sorensen was a career-best fourth, with rookie Tanner Crary fifth.

Devil's Bowl Speedway is back in action on Friday, August 7 at 7:30 p.m. with the fourth annual Carrara Masonry & Concrete "C.J. Richards Memorial" event.  The Modified division will race 67 laps in honor of the track's late founder, Richards, who opened the facility in 1967.  Late Models, Renegades, and Mini Stocks will be on the card, along with the MFT Sauce & Rub Co. Enduro Series. Special general admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, and free for kids age 12 and under.  Gates open at 5:30 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m.

- Autodrome Granby.  Mathieu Desjardins conserve son titre de M. Sportsman, David Hébert remporte sa deuxième victoire de l'année, François Adam #01 gagne sa #6 et Alain Béliveau #16 frappe encore à Granby.

Alain Béliveau #16 avait tellement une bonne camionnette qu'il va jouer dans les retardataires déjà en qualification. Il part 11ème dans la finale. À la relance du premier tour, Béliveau est 6ème. Il dépasse au deuxième tour par l'intérieur le 20 de Sylvain Boisvert. À la reprise du 4ème tour, le camion #16 se lance en 3ème place. Normand Voghel #3 mène la course à partir du deuxième tour jusqu'au 23ème tour où en ayant choisi le bas de la piste pour éviter un retardataire, il fait une crevaison. Pierre Raymond #15 parti 4ème  qui était deuxième du tour 7 à 24 est aussi éjecté de la course à un tour de la fin suite à cet accident. La victoire revient ainsi à Béliveau comme à date semblable l'an dernier. Yves Hamel #194 parti 7ème est entré au top 5 à la relance du 4ème tour. À la reprise du 13ème tour, il dépasse par l'extérieur le 34 de Dominic Lamontagne avec qui il se battait depuis 6 tours. Hamel termine donc deuxième devant Lamontagne. Éric Piette #71 retourné par un autre pilote au départ est retranché à l'arrière. Il est impliqué dans un accident trois tours plus tard. Éric montera 6ème au tour 17. Lors du départ des leaders au dernier tour, il gagne deux positions. Michel Garant #70 dont la voiture était une gracieuseté de son ami Kim Alex #72 est sorti aux puits au 4ème tour, a fait un tête à queue au 15ème tour, mais n'a pas baissé les bras et a terminé 5ème.

Clair #22J a mené les tours 1 à 25. Kayle Robidoux #46 parti 7ème prend l'intérieur de Dufault au tour 14 pour la 4ème place. Au 27ème tour, Robidoux fait maintenant l'intérieur du 73 d'Alain Boisvert pour sa troisième place. Steve Bernier #25 parti 11ème parvient 5ème aussi par l'intérieur du 63 à cinq tours de la fin.

Le 97 de Rolland Hébert mène les tours 1 à 8 quand Jocelyn Roy #48 lui vole la vedette par l'extérieur.  À cinq tours de la fin, surgit le 01 de François Adam qui fait le bas de Roy pour aller chercher sa sixième victoire. Stéphane Lemire #115 parti 11ème arrive au top 5 au 13ème tour par l'extérieur. Au 17ème tour, Lemire monte en deuxième place qu'il perd deux tours plus tard au profit d'Adam.  Alain Brochu #12 parti 7ème connaît un bon départ qui lui fait prendre deux positions. Au 18ème tour, Brochu fait l'intérieur du 17 de Jocelyn Chicoine pour sa 4ème place finale.  Normand Voghel #3 parti 8ème est longtemps 6ème, mais se lance dans le dernier tour devant le 17 pour compléter le top 5.

Puis au 30ème tour par l'extérieur Desjardins se distance de Gagné. Le 32 de Guy Ouellette parti 4ème dépasse le 33 d'Alex Lajoie au dixième passage pour la 3ème place, puis Desjardins pour la deuxième. À partir de la relance de la mi-course, Ouellette tentera de saisir la pôle  jusqu'au dernier tour en vain. Alex Lajoie #33 parti 3ème perdra du gallon, puis la relance du 49ème tour le remettra sur la bonne voie, à sa place de départ. À sa première présence de l'année chez nous dans le 07, Jean Boissonneault peut se vanter de terminer au top 5. Parti 17ème, il se bat longuement pour la 8ème place avec Kaven Poliquin #49. Martin Pelletier #92p quitte au tour 77 alors qu'il est 3ème pour un bris d'arbre de transmission (drive shaft). Boissonneault devient alors 6ème toujours derrière Poliquin qui prend sa puissance à l'extérieur du circuit. Ils dépasseront le 90 de Dany Gagné pour fini 4ème et 5ème.

Jacques vainqueur pour une deuxième année
C'est ce vendredi, 31 juillet que ce tenait la première de deux journées de course pour les Sportsman Québec Lucas Oil sur le circuit routier du GP3R.
C'est 15 de nos pilotes qui ont répondu à l'invitation de l'Autodrome Saint-Eustache en charge de l'évènement pour une première année.


Record de piste doublement battu
Le #67 Dominic Jacques est parvenu en début de journée, lors de la séance de pratique à battre son propre record de piste avec un temps de 1.15.456. Mais rapidement le principal rival de Jacques sur ce circuit, le #33 Philippe Poulin (333 pour ce programme), a battu ce temps réalisant le tour de piste en 1.14.986 lors de la séance de temps chronométrée en vue de la 1ere finale.  
Le #33 Philippe Poulin est parti en première position pour les Sportsman Qc suivi du #67 Dominic Jacques. Les deux pilotes se sont disputé la position de tête avant que Jacques prenne les devants. Bien que Poulin n'ait jamais abandonné, une neutralisation complète sur la piste a malheureusement écoulée le temps prévu et fait en sorte qu'aucune relance n'a été faite.
C'est donc sur un drapeau jaune quadrillé que la course a pris fin avec en 1ere position le #67 Dominic Jacques suivi du #33 Philippe Poulin. Bien que les deux classes, Sportsman Nascar ASE  et Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil ont participé au programme en même temps, c'est bien deux résultats distincts qui résultent de ce programme soit un podium pour chacun.
C'est le #22 Louis-Philippe Labrecque qui complète donc ce podium Sportsman Québec. Labrecque a lui aussi été pénalisé par la fin précipitée du programme lui qui effectuait une belle remontée dans les derniers tours. Avec une voiture toujours aussi adhérente en piste, il en aurait fallu de peu au pilote de Saint-Damien pour rejoindre 2 pilotes de Sportsman Nascar ASE devant lui.
Des performances à souligner
Bien qu'il ne participe pas au championnat complet cette saison, le #40 Sylvain Labbé était présent pour ce programme et il a pu nous démontrer ses talents de pilotage en circuit routier. Labbé qui termine en 4e position pour notre série était rapide en piste et a su garder le rythme tout au long du programme.
Le #17 (117 pour ce programme) est sans aucun doute le pilote à qui cette neutralisation a pu profiter. En effet, Jimmy Nadeau a éprouvé des problèmes de transmissions qui auraient pu lui couter sa 5e position. Il a définitivement réalisé une finale à la hauteur du début de saison exceptionnelle qu'il a.
Ayant utilisé un pilote remplaçant pour les pratiques ainsi que la qualification qui avait lieu sous forme de « time trial », le #41 Samuel Charland a effectué une superbe de remontée avant d'être contraint à entrer dans la ligne de puits après un contact avec une autre voiture. Son remplaçant, Daniel Demers qui course actuellement dans la classe locale Sport Compact Élite à l'Autodrome Chaudière, lui a fait honneur. Prenant le volant pour la toute première fois non seulement d'une voiture Sportsman, mais aussi sur un circuit routier, Demers s'en est très bien tiré et a sans aucun doute vécu une journée haute en adrénaline.  
En ce qui concernant nos recrues, le #98 Dany Bélanger a surpris par sa stabilité en circuit routier. Il a su rapidement prendre son aise sur le circuit du GP3R lui permettant de réaliser sa meilleure performance en Sportsman Québec.
Au moment d'écrire ses lignes, les résultats complets n'étaient pas officiels. Nous vous ferons parvenir le tout dès qu'il en sera le cas.
Prochaine et dernière présence pour nos Sportsman Qc demain à 14h10 pour un autre 30 minutes qui complètera ce programme.

Waterbury, VT – American-Canadian Tour (ACT) officials have announced the disqualification of Karl Allard from the Chaudiere 150 held at Autodrome Chaudiere in Vallée-Jct., QC on July 11 and 12.

 

Allard crossed the finish line in fifth place, but was found to have an illegally altered left-front tire during post-race technical inspection, which was recently confirmed by the team after the tire was sent to American Racer headquarters for further evaluation.

 

In addition to losing all points and purse money from the event, Allard will forfeit all driver and owner points earned to date for the 2015 season. Allard must also pay a $500 fine to be eligible to return to competition. This $500 will be added to the driver point fund.

 

Both Allard and his #7ON team have also been placed on probation for the remainder of the 2015 ACT and Série ACT seasons.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 28, 2015) – A lot has changed for racing brothers Louis-Philippe and Jean-Francois Dumoulin since they last competed on their hometown circuit, and all for the better.

 

The Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres has long been a major event for the Dumoulin family. Father, Richard, competed in the event before passing the torch on to his sons. None of the three had won the premiere feature race of the event prior to last year though, when L.P. Dumoulin took the checkered flag in the JuliaWine.com Le 50 Tours NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 race.

 

L.P. Dumoulin returns home this week for the 2015 edition, not only as the event's defending winner, but as the series' reigning champion.

 

It's also been a big year for older sibling J.F. Dumoulin, as the former part-time competitor takes on Circuit de Trois-Rivieres in the midst of his first full-time Canadian Tire Series campaign.

 

Strictly a road racer prior to the season, J.F. Dumoulin is now taking on the ovals featured on the series schedule. In five such events to-date, he's posted a top-10 average finish. Through seven overall races, he ranks eighth in the championship standings.

 

"I still have a good chance to get up to fifth if I get on a good streak and keeping being competitive," J.F. Dumoulin said. "At ovals I'm getting more and more comfortable, and more competitive.

 

"I think in general it has gone pretty well. No big damage, I've finished all of the races, so that's a big point for me."

 

L.P. Dumoulin was complementary of how his brother and teammate has accommodated to the full schedule.

 

"He's a longtime racer and I think he's adapted himself very well to ovals," L.P. Dumoulin said. "This is his first season doing ovals, and I think he's done very well so far."

 

Meanwhile, the title defense for L.P. Dumoulin hasn't gone exactly as planned. Although his six top-10 finishes are tied for the series lead, he returns home to Trois-Rivieres ranked fourth in the season standings, 22 points behind leader Scott Steckly.

 

"I'm not going to wait for people to have bad luck to bring me back up in the standings, I need to make the good luck for myself and our team has to do it to make it happen," L.P. Dumoulin said. "The whole team works really hard every week to give me the best car they can and they've been reliable. We've been fighting up front all year long but had bad luck here and there."

 

The Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres – or GP3R for short – provides a great opportunity for L.P. Dumoulin to attain his first victory of the season and jump back into the championship chase.

 

"I would for sure like to do two-in-a-row, but as you can see, the series is very competitive again this year," L.P. Dumoulin said. "If you want do well, everything has to fall into place. It's been a little rough for us this season, but I'm very much looking forward to it."

 

A multi-time victor at Trois-Rivieres, including the Grand-AM SR II race in 2001, J.F. Dumoulin would love to join his brother on the premiere event winners list, while keeping in mind that he'll be going up against a very competitive field on Sunday. He finished a career-best fourth in this event last year.

 

"Obviously L.P. is competition, but there are a lot of other very competitive guys out there," J.F. Dumoulin said. "I want a podium. That's where I want to be, that's what I'm aiming for. I think I have better equipment this year than I've had in past years."

 

The GP3R is an annual festival in the city of Trois-Rivieres, nestled along the Saint-Laurent River in Quebec. The uniqueness of the temporary street course circuit, combined with tremendous fan support, creates a high level of interest from Canadian racers and teams, making it a premiere event to win. The Canadian Tire Series loads in on Friday for inspection day and on-track activities will begin for the series with practice and qualifying on Saturday.

The Race:  The JuliaWine.com Le 50 Tours will be the eighth of 11 events on the 2015 NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 schedule, and the final of four dates in the province of Quebec.

 

The Procedure:  The maximum starting field is 34 cars, including provisionals. The first 29 cars will have secured starting positions through NASCAR Road Race style group qualifying and the remaining five spots will be awarded through the provisional process. The race is scheduled for 50 laps (76.5 miles/123 kilometers).

 

The Track:  The temporary street course of Circuit de Trois-Rivieres is an 11-turn, 1.53-mile circuit. In Trois-Rivieres – differing from many road course tracks – the cars race in a counter-clockwise motion as on oval tracks. The track's trademark is the Porte Duplessis, a narrow concrete gateway the cars pass through in Turn 3.

 

The History:  The Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres (GP3R) began in 1967 when racing-passionate members of the Club Autosport Mauricien decided to organize a race in the streets of the city. Inspired by the Monaco race, Mr. Jean E. Ryan, Leon Dufour and Yves Girard, plus a committee of about thirty people, organized the event that has now become a unique event in North America. It is the oldest street course in North America and this year is the 46th edition of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres.

 

Pole Winners:  The first eight Trois-Rivieres races have produced four different pole winners. Alex Tagliani set the series' circuit qualifying record in 2013 at 67.080 seconds (82.111 mph).

 

Race Winners:  Andrew Ranger has won four of the eight all-time GP3R Canadian Tire Series events, including three in a row from 2008-10. Trois-Rivieres native L.P. Dumoulin is the defending race winner.

Ranger's Remarkable GP3R Record:  Quebec native Andrew Ranger has a podium spot locked down at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres. The road course ace has won four of the eight all-time NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 races on the 1.53-mile street circuit, and finished second in the other four races. Ranger also enters Trois-Rivieres as the series' most-recent winner as he reached Victory Lane last week on the oval at Quebec's Autodrome St-Eustache.

 

Steckly Streaking:  Scott Steckly has won the pole three races in a row, and will look to make history this week at Trois-Rivieres as the first driver in series history to record four-consecutive poles. J.R. Fitzpatrick, with the last two events in 2012 and the 2013 opener, was the last driver to capture three-consecutive poles. Fitzpatrick also did it in 2007 and Don Thomson Jr. accomplished the feat in 2008.

 

Camirand Coming On:  In his first full season on the Canadian Tire Series, Quebec racing veteran Marc-Antoine Camirand is hitting his stride. Camirand enters Trois-Rivieres – where he earned his first Canadian Tire Series start in 2013 as the winner of that year's sportsman division race – on the heels of three-consecutive top-five finishes on ovals. Last week at St-Eustache Camirand crossed the line third to match his overall career-best, and set a new personal oval mark. He was last year's JuliaWine.com Le 50 Tours polesitter.

 

Debuts for Harvey, de Quesada:  Charles Harvey of nearby Terrebonne, Quebec, will attempt to make his Canadian Tire Series debut at Trois-Rivieres. Carlos de Quesada of Gainesville, Florida, will also look to become the second American to race in the series this year, following Kevin O'Connell of Houston, Texas, who competed in the season-opener.

-Autodrome Granby. Ce vendredi 31 juillet, une course de 100 tours qui pèse lourd dans la balance pour les Sportsmanpuisqu'elle compte pour des points de championnat (100 points au gagnant au lieu de l'habituel 60). 

 

35 x Modifié

 

C'est maintenant Alain Boisvert #73 qui surplombe le classement Modifié devant David Hébert #ONE. Ils ont relégué Steve Bernier #25* le meneur des dernières semaines au 3ème rang. Steve Bernard #54 y est quatrième alors qu'à Drummondville, il est toujours premier.  Yan Bussière #21 est cinquième à Granby alors qu'il est 4ème à sa piste.  Claude Brouillard #3 a remporté sa première victoire de la saison samedi dernier, la glace est brisée pour vendredi chez nous.

 

100 x Sportsman (Pts Champ.)

 

Mathieu Desjardins #1M a signé deux victoires en deux soirs vendredi et samedi derniers; il ne voudra plus en laisser passer une. De plus, c'est lui qui possède le titre de M. Sportsman 2014 qu'il doit à présent défendre. Par contre, Martin Pelletier #92P est maître du classement de l'Autodrome Granby avec 35 points sur Desjardins. Le cent points de la victoire sera déterminant pour le gagnant. Guy Ouellette #32 et Martin Hébert #43 sont encore égaux en 3ème et 4ème positions étant donné que cinquante points de participation ont été attribués à tous à la dernière course. Jonathan Désilets #21 est au même rang à Granby et Drummondville : cinquième.

 

25 x Pro-Stock

 

C'est encore Jocelyn Roy #48 qui mène le cumul des points de Granby devant Stéphane Lemire #115. Dave Bissonnette #47 et Jocelyn Roy #48 ont été nos meilleurs pilotes locaux terminant respectivement 8ème et 13ème à Albany Saratoga vendredi dernier. Après trois manches de la série Dirtprostock, Bissonnette #47 mène le cumulatif. Steve Chaput #38 peut maintenant se vanter de sa deuxième victoire en carrière, une vraie, la première ayant été effacée chez nous puisque seulement 7 tours avaient été enregistrés. Il a remporté la finale #2 du côté de Cornwall dimanche dernier.

 

25 x Enduro

 

Normand Voghel #3 courra dans les deux catégories : protosck et enduro. Il réserve ses autres voitures, son temps et son énergie pour cet automne et s'en tient à une voiture pour l'enduro.  Pierre Raymond #15 sera aussi de la partie. La famille Piette a confirmé la présence de trois voitures : Éric #71, son cousin Manuel #141 et Claude Piette #141. Marco #88 et Patrick #59 Lainesse aussi viendront tenter leur chance sur la piste de Granby. Enfin, Yves Hamel #194 et Alain Béliveau #16 ont signalé leur présence. 

 

Kim Alex #72 sera présent de même que son ami Mike Garand atteint d'un cancer à qui il offre un cadeau avant de mourir : courir sur la terre battue. Mike a été membre de l'équipe d'Alex les 5 dernières années. Son cancer du poumon est avancé; il ne lui reste que trois mois à vivre. En lui prêtant sa deuxième voiture, Kim le remercie, mais aussi profite une dernière fois du temps avec son ami. Nous pourrons encourager M. Garand dans la voiture #70. Un beau geste qui nous fait encore plus apprécier notre sport.
