Discipline et patience seront de mise


C'est ce samedi, 8 août qu'aura lieu le 7e programme de la saison de la Série Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil à l'Autodrome Montmagny.

Pour ce programme, 16 voitures Sportsman seront présentes. Avec les meneurs au classement général, on peut s'attendre à de chaudes luttes pour gagner quelques points.





Dominic Jacques prend de l'avance

Le #67 Dominic Jacques, qui rappelons-le est monté à deux reprises sur le podium le weekend dernier remportant ainsi le combiné des deux finales ce qui lui donne une avance de 14 points sur le #17 Jimmy Nadeau. Un weekend de réussite pour le pilote qui a accompli un nouveau record de piste sur le circuit routier de Trois-Rivières; un 3e record pour cette saison pour Jacques. Lui qui, lors du premier programme de la saison, a battu le record de piste à Montmagny sera-t-il être aussi performant?

Le #07 Jonathan Côté en sera à son 3e programme cette saison avec la Série Sportsman Qc. Lors de sa première présence à l'Autodrome Montmagny il avait réalisé une très belle performance obtenant une 5e position au final. On a pu retrouver en piste un pilote toujours aussi combatif, mais plus patient ce qui lui servira certainement. Pour les fans de la Série Sportsman Qc, c'est une plaisir de retrouver un pilote de la trempe de Côté.

Avec l'absence du #8 Yves Pelchat ce weekend, le #13 Michael Tremblay prendra surement la 2e place au classement des recrues. On peut constater de programme en programme l'amélioration du pilote qui prend de l'aisance avec sa voiture.

Toujours en tête du championnat des recrues, le #95 Mickaël Isabelle détient 17 points d'avance. Déjà en début de saison, on a pu constater le talent inné de ce jeune pilote qui suit avec brio les traces de son parrain, Steve Lesage. Il sera sans aucun doute être une excellente relève pour la Série Sportsman Qc dans les prochaines années.

Espérons que les pilotes seront être aussi disciplinés que lors du programme du weekend dernier au GP3R et présenter aux spectateurs présents un programme à la hauteur du talent qu'on retrouve dans cette série. Chose certaine, les pilotes en tête du classement n'ont pas dit leur dernier mot. Que nous réserve Jimmy Nadeau, Rejean Blanchet, Philippe Poulin ou bien Pier-Luc Labbé; eux qui occupent actuellement le top 5 du classement général derrière Dominic Jacques?

Pour le savoir, rendez-vous ce samedi à l'Autodrome Montmagny où les Sportsman Qc accompagneront la classe élite PASS dont plusieurs Québécois ont déjà confirmé leurs présences !

Brandt Graham is Ready for a Peterborough Speedway Homecoming

Today's new generation of racing talent can develop their skills through a variety of different methods. Orono, Ontario teenager Brandt Graham practiced his craft in a Mini Stock at Peterborough Speedway before making his debut in the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series at the start of the 2015 season.

 

Even though he'll be returning to high school in another month, the 17 year old driver of the #14 Dodge – who is one of the leading contenders for the tour's rookie of the year award – says he's having a great time visiting some different race tracks and making some new friends along the way.

 

"We've had some ups and downs, but overall it's been a great season so far," said the talented youngster. "This car is bigger, heavier and faster than anything I've driven before, but the learning curve hasn't been too steep. I'm fortunate to have a very supportive team of family and friends to help me along the way. That has helped me keep everything in perspective."

 

In a season plagued by inclement weather, Brandt Graham currently sits 6th in the overall Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series standings, with a season best 5th place finish in 4 starts. This weekend, the second generation speedster will tackle some familiar turf when the tour stops at Peterborough Speedway – Saturday, August 8th – for the Breast Cancer Society 100. Graham says he's looking forward to making a half hour trek to the track for an event.

 

"Many of the races we run are at least a couple of hours away, so it's great to have a show that's so close to our home base," said the driver. "It'll be a great opportunity to have some of my friends and sponsors be able to make the trip and see me race."

50x Modifié

 

David Hébert #ONE a pris le dessus sur Alain Boisvert #73 avec sa victoire de vendredi dernier par deux petits points dans le cumul. Puisque c'est la soirée dédiée au retour de son fils malade à la maison, David aura une motivation supplémentaire pour la victoire. Steve Bernier #25, Steve Bernard #54 et Yan Bussière #21 sont toujours 3ème, 4ème et 5ème au classement. Plusieurs Modifiés québécois couraient du côté de Cornwall dimanche dernier pour le 150 tours. C'est Mario Clair qui a obtenu le meilleur résultat en y terminant 4ème.

 

30x Sportsman

 

Mathieu Desjardins #1M a non seulement rattrapé l'écart de 35 points qu'il avait derrière Martin Pelletier #92, mais il l'a même devancé de 19 points avec l'abandon de Pelletier à la dernière course.  La classe est toujours en santé avec des pilotes qui en étaient à leur première présence cette année au dernier programme : Chantal Provencher #36,  Pascal Daigle #98, Jean Boissonneault #07, Yves Léveillée dans le 20 de Jean-François Arpin et Serge Brault #16. Ce vendredi Stef Galarneau reprendra son bolide #16 qu'il avait prêté à ce dernier, un ami pilote de course sur glace.  Stef en sera aussi à sa première présence chez nous cette année.

 

25x Pro-Stock

 

Jocelyn Roy #48 et Stéphane Lemire #115 sont toujours dans cet ordre dans le classement et l'écart reste le même étant donné le podium qu'ils se sont partagés à la dernière course. François Adam #01 qui collectionne les victoires (6) est désormais troisième ayant déclassé Dave Bissonnette #47 relégué au 5ème rang. Alain Brochu #12 l'a aussi passé au cumul étant donnée l'absence du 47 à la dernière course et la 4ème place de Brochu ce même soir. Dave Bissonnette #47 étant le leader des points de Cornwall et de la série Dirt et ayant un budget limité doit renoncer à venir courir chez nous à notre grand regret.

Marc Véronneau #8 est toujours premier dans les points avec un solide 38 points sur Guillaume Daoust #24. Alexis Charbonneau #49 est présentement 3ème chez nous et 6èmedans le cumul de Cornwall. Bruno Lafontaine #19 est 4èmedans le championnat suivi de la recrue 2014 Danick Sylvestre #9S. La classe avec ses 5 recrues cette année n'a pas fini de s'épanouir, car 3 voitures – à ma connaissance - sont en préparation pour l'année prochaine.

Missing an event is the last thing on any racecar driver's agenda, but even though he'd planned to skip the Saturday, July 25th event at Sauble Speedway to enjoy a long overdue vacation, Mike Beyore knew that he was in no shape to get behind the wheel. During an event at Delaware Speedway a few weeks earlier, the second generation speedster from Whitby, Ontario suffered the effects of carbon monoxide poisoning and needed to get out of the car.

 

"In all my years in the sport, it was one of the toughest decisions I've ever had to make," said the driver known as 'The Whitby Warrior'. "The car was running great, but I wasn't up-to-speed. I felt tired and out of sorts. There was no way that I could stay in the car, so before the green flag came back out after the red, I pulled into the pits. There was no point in putting my own health or the safety of any other drivers in the field at risk."

 

Unfortunately, the symptoms experienced that night in the racecar continued through the anticipated vacation. Back home, there was prolonged treatment in a hyperbolic chamber while the date for Peterborough Speedway's Touring Chase for the Colours event remained pencilled-in on the shop calendar.

 

When the driver of the #54 OSCAAR Super Late Model rolled through the pit gate at the venue known as Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval, Beyore was both excited and nervous about what lay in store. Once he took his first laps on the track, a feeling of confidence replaced any trepidation that may have been there before.

 

"It felt good to get back behind the wheel," said Beyore. "The car was fast and although we needed to address an issue with it being loose coming off the corners, we put our game plan into effect and made some adjustments with the shocks. The track felt a little greasy because of the bright sunlight and heat, but it wasn't anything we hadn't experienced before in the middle of the summer."

 

With a pair of qualifying heats to run before taking his spot in the feature line-up, Beyore finished 3rd in the second preliminary round and claimed the checkered flag in the fourth. Starting 4th in the 50 lap 'A' main, the team struggled on the outside line, before being able to get to the bottom groove. Taking the car into the pits during a mid-race yellow flag, the crew made some changes to the set-up before sending their pilot back onto the track.

 

Only about a handful of laps remained on the scoreboard, when Beyore made solid impact with the retaining wall in the second turn. The car hit hard, then snapped-around; nearly clearing the Jersey barrier. The race was immediately red-flagged, while track safety and rescue crews rushed to the scene to check on the driver.

 

"I think that was the hardest hit I've ever had," said the driver via an on-line chat the next day. "I'm tired and sore, but the safety equipment built into the car did its job. I'm thankful to the crews at Peterborough Speedway for their quick response and to everyone who took the time to call or message to check on me."

Hot August Night Racing Series Continues at Peterborough Speedway

They're turning up the heat at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval.



 

Excitement is rampant as the point battles tighten-up in all 5 regular divisions at Peterborough Speedway and anticipation builds with every wave of the Great Canadian RV green flag. Saturday, August 8th action in the Hot August Night Racing Series returns, as the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Breast Cancer Society 100 and a Kawartha Coupes & Coaches Vintage Modified Invitational will join the hometown Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Mini Stock and Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car classes.

 

Turn-by-turn, lap after lap fans have witnessed some incredibly close racing throughout the 2015 campaign and with only 5 regularly scheduled events remaining on the calendar, every position gained on the racetrack will help determine the overall championships and earn bragging rights at the season-ending awards banquet. Peterborough Speedway owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says the tight point chases have made the track the talk of the town.

 

"Word is spreading faster than the Thunder Car field coming off the 4th turn to the checkered flag," said Josiasse. "People are getting great value for their motorsports entertainment dollar and they're telling their friends. Each week, we have new faces coming through the gate and they like what they see. It's all about building momentum and then keeping up the pace."

 

For the Saturday, August 8th show, pit gates will open at 2:00, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 5:00and the night's first green flag at 6:00.

 

Looking ahead on the schedule finds the year's final Toonie Spectator Grandstand Admission/Fan Appreciation Night – presented by Pepsi – on Saturday, August 15th. The Ontario Modifieds Racing Series and INEX Ontario Legends will be joined by Peterborough Speedway's Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Mini Stock and Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model divisions. Saturday, August 22nd will find the Mini Stock, Renegade Truck, Thunder Car, Late Model and OMRS Mod teams looking to earn a trip to Dart Heating and Air Conditioning victory lane.

Heckert Looks To Continue Road Course Success

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 4, 2015) – Scott Heckert is looking to add another road course win to his resume this weekend at the Bully Hill Vineyards 125 at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International.

The 21-year-old from Ridgefield, Connecticut, has earned three NASCAR K&N Pro Series East wins and two of them are at road courses, Virginia International Raceway and Watkins Glen International. 

Heckert picked up his first career victory at the 2.454-mile track last season after a dramatic conclusion to the race. He passed leader Andrew Ranger and second-place Cole Custer on the restart of a green-white-checkered finish attempt.

This season, Heckert has tallied one win, six top five and seven top 10 finishes and is ranked second in the series' point standings.

Earning back-to-back wins at WGI won't be easy. Kaz Grala and Jesse Little, who were fourth and fifth at Watkins Glen last year, are both scheduled to compete in this year's Bully Hill Vineyards 125. Custer is also back and looking for redemption after a wreck late in the race caused him to finish 16th last year.

Four rookie drivers are also looking to notch a win at the Glen. Dalton Sargeant, J.J. Haley, William Byron and Noah Gragson proved they have what it takes to contend at road courses at their first road course starts in June at Sonoma (Calif.) Raceway. Dalton Sargeant led 64 of 68 laps before being passed by NASCAR K&N Pro Series West veteran David Mayhew on a restart late in the race. Haley finished third, Byron finished fifth and Gragson finished seventh.

FAST FACTS
The Race: The Bully Hill Vineyards 125 will be the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East's 16th visit to the track since 1993 and the second trip since 2009. It is the 10th of 14 events on the 2015 schedule and the first of two road course races on the calendar.

The Procedure: The maximum starting field is 32 cars, including provisionals. The first 28 cars will have secured starting positions through NASCAR Road Course style group qualifying and the remaining four spots will be awarded through the provisional process. The race is scheduled for 51 laps (125.124 miles) with a five minute break at or near the conclusion of Lap 25.

The Track: Watkins Glen International was established on the streets of Watkins Glen, New York, in 1948 when law student Cameron Argetsinger dreamed of bringing European style competition to the village where he spent his summer vacations. He drew up a challenging course that encompassed asphalt, cement and dirt roads in and around the village of Watkins Glen. It has hosted a total of 16 K&N Pro Series East events since 1993 and its current short course configuration is 2.454-miles

The Records: The qualifying record was set last season by Brodie Kostecki at 121.039 mph (72.869 seconds). The Bully Hill Vineyards 125 will be the second time the event will span 51 laps.

 

WATKINS GLEN RACE NOTES:
Notable U.S. Debuts: NASCAR Whelen Euro Series 2014 Rookie of the Year Eddie Cheever III and Quebec native Marc-Antoine Camirand will attempt to make their K&N Pro Series East debut on Friday at The Glen. Cheever III, who is currently second in the NASCAR Whelen Euro Series standings with a win, four top five and eight top 10 finishes, will drive the No. 99 Bill McAnally Racing Toyota Camry in his U.S. debut. A leading candidate for Jostens Rookie of the Year honors in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1, Camirand has posted six top 10s in eight events this year and ranks sixth in the championship standings. Camirand is entered in the No. 53 Ford owned by Robert Torriere, which fellow Quebec driver Andrew Ranger piloted to three K&N Pro Series victories from 2010-13, all on road courses.

Gragson and Lupton To Make East Debuts: Noah Gragson and Dylan Lupton will both be making their NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debuts after having great success in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West. Gragson, 17, leads the K&N West standings with 315 points. The rookie has earned one win, five top five and seven top 10 finishes in his eight series starts. Lupton, 21, was the runner-up finisher in 2014 in the K&N West. He earned one win, nine top fives and 14 top 10s. He has competed in five NASCAR XFINITY Series races this year and is coming off his best finish, 17th, at Iowa Speedway.


Chevrolet Dominating The Competition: Chevrolet enjoyed the most success at the New York road course, with nine of 15 NASCAR K&N Pro Series East events at Watkins Glen won by Chevrolets. Fords have earned four victories and Toyota and Pontiac have each tallied one win. 

K&N Points Battle Update: Rookie William Byron still holds a commanding lead over his competition in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East standings. The 17-year-old from Charlotte, N.C., has racked up 362 points with four wins, five top fives and six top 10s. His HScott Motorsports teammates Scott Heckert and Dalton Sargeant are second and fifth, respectively (337-320). K&N East veteran Austin Hill is third with 329 points and fellow rookie Kyle Benjamin is fourth with 322 points. Rico Abreu, Kaz Grala, Nick Drake, J.J. Haley and Gray Gaulding round out the top 10.

Durgan, Branham Avoid Wrecks for Airborne Park Speedway Modified Wins

Durgan, Branham Avoid Wrecks for Airborne Park Speedway Modified Wins

Boutin inherits Renegade victory; LaVair back on top in Mini-Mods

PLATTSBURGH, NY – The full moon was out over Airborne Park Speedway on Saturday, August 1, and perhaps not-so-coincidentally the stock car racing action was a touch wild. Jason Durgan and Bucko Branham were among the survivors to stand in victory lane at the crash-marred Aaron's Sales & Lease/Liquor & Wine Warehouse Night, as were Jon Boutin and Chris LaVair.

The J&S Steel Modified division of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series presented by Yandow Sales & Service and John Deere ran twin 30-lap features, with Morrisonville racer Durgan and hometown veteran Branham splitting the victories. Durgan's win in the first race came despite a 13th-place starting position; he sliced through traffic and avoided three wrecks to catch rookie Jamy Begor in the final eight laps. Durgan completed his pass for the lead with five circuits remaining and drove to his second win of the year. Branham followed a similar path through the field and finished second, while Begor, of Mooers Forks, finished a career-best third. Greg Atkins and Mike Wells finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

In the second round, Branham again charged through the field from 14th place to victory lane for his third win of the season and the 60th documented Airborne Park Speedway victory of his long career, extending his all-time track record. The race was full of bumps and bangs, including a wreck that demolished Begor's car. Leon Gonyo of Chazy was the runner-up, his best Airborne result since a win in May. Plattsburgh's Nick Heywood completed the podium after original third-place finisher Wells was disqualified for a weight infraction in post-race inspection. Atkins took fourth for the second time of the night, and Codie Aubin was fifth.

Heywood's championship point lead took a hit following a 16th-place finish in the first 30-lap race, and Atkins trimmed his deficit down from 23 points to just two markers (594-592). Branham sits third, 28 points behind Heywood, followed by Durgan and rookie Danny Sullivan.

The Key R-D Trailer Sales Renegade division saw its share of bent sheet metal, and the race ended with an incident at the finish that saw Jim McKiernan cross the line first and Jon Boutin take second place backwards. McKiernan was stripped of the win in post-race inspection for a weight infraction and has been suspended indefinitely from both Airborne Park Speedway and partner track Devil's Bowl Speedway for unsportsmanlike conduct following the disqualification.

Boutin, of St. Albans, VT, was moved up to the winner's spot for the second victory of his career. Josh Terry of Essex, NY was scored as the runner-up, ahead of Dylan Rabtoy, Shawn Duquette, and Tylor Terry. Duquette, of Morrisonville, is the new championship point leader following a crash that severely damaged the car of previous leader Richie Turner. Duquette's lead is a narrow seven points over Turner (491-484), with Robert Gordon another 10 points behind.

The Busch Beer Mini-Modified division saw another round of the "Chris & Kris Show" as Chris LaVair and Kris Clark put on a clean and entertaining battle for the win. LaVair, of Gabriels, took the checkered flag for his fourth win of the season. Clark was the runner-up, ahead of Eddie Bresette, Dale O'Neil, and Tim LaFountain. LaVair leads Clark by 45 points (546-501) for the title.

Andrew Bordeau of Dannemora cleaned house in the Renegade Mechanics Race, driving a car he fields for regular driver Tylor Terry. Bordeau defeated a trio of former division champions in Lance Rabtoy, Kevin Boutin Jr., and Dave Rabtoy. Clint Adams finished fifth.

Airborne Park Speedway is back in action on Saturday, August 8 at 7:00 p.m. as Ernie's Discount Tools presents the second 100-lap Renegade race of the season. The event will also feature the Modified and Mini-Mod classes in regular events, along with the "King of the Hill" elimination tournament for the Modifieds. The top 10 point drivers and one other driver that wins a pre-race fan vote will have a shot at the $500 winner-take-all prize. General admission for the event is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and free for kids age 12 and under.
