Chase for the Colours Locks in Autumn Colours Pole Positions at Peterborough Speedway

Winning the Autumn Colours Classic is the goal of every short track racer in the province and the Chase for the Colours Pole Qualifier – Saturday, August 22nd – at Peterborough Speedway locked-in the front row starting spots for drivers in the Mini Stock, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car and Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model divisions. Also on the night's program was the hometown Renegade Truck class and the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series.

 

Nolan Gould and James Townsend brought the field of 27 starters to Great Canadian RV green flag to kick-off the 30 lap Mini Stock main event. After an early race yellow flag slowed the pace, things settled-down nicely with some exciting racing throughout the pack. Gould led through the opening stages, before surrendering the top spot to Tyler Junkin with 9 laps showing on the scoreboard. As field encountered lapped traffic with around 14 circuits complete, Junkin's advantage grew and he scored his second consecutive 'Chase' win. Ryan Oosterholt, James Townsend, Kyle Baker and Gould completed the top 5.

 

Bill O'Hara and Tim Burke paced the pack of pick-ups to the line for the Renegade Truck division main event. Burke got a jump on the initial green flag and managed to hold-off a late race charge by defending track champion Jack Dallin for his second win of the year in the caution-free feature tilt.

 

It was Steve Foster and Tyler Betts on the front row as the Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model teams set-sail for a 50 lap main event that would determine inside and outside pole positions for October's Autumn Colours Classic. Green flag racing was the order of business until a lap 16 spin by Jack Horner. The caution flag also saw Betts and Rick Walt give up what had been a straight-away advantage on the field. With the inside line the quick way around, several drivers tried to make the outside groove work. Dave Morgan's attempt on the 22nd lap cost the Buckhorn, Ontario veteran 7 spots in the running order. Former track champion Bryan Sudsbury attempted a similar move a few laps later, but also couldn't make it work. At the checkers, it was Walt earning the Autumn Colours Classic pole, over Bryan Mercer. Morgan, Betts and Mike Wallace chased the lead pair to the line.

 

Alex Lees and defending series champion Robert Warnes led the way as the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series rolled from the staging area for their 25 lap main event. An early race yellow slowed the pace and Warnes grabbed the lead on the restart. A few laps later, contact between Chad Strawn and Nick Lees sent both drivers to the rear of the field, but Warnes remained in control. Donny Beatty had mounted a hard charge from the 9th starting spot and worked his way to the runner-up position with a dozen laps complete. The veteran runner tried to get around the leader using the high and low lines for a handful of laps, but the #95 machine would thwart every challenge on the way to his first win of the year. Alex Lees, Jamie Wagar and Ryan Babin were next in line.

 

Howie Crowe and Cayden Lapcevich occupied the front row as the Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car runners hit Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval for 40 action-packed laps. Hard charging throughout the field kept fans on the edge of their seats from the drop of the green flag. Upstart Lapcevich took the early lead, but his Chase for the Colours win was hardly a walk in the park. Matt Bentley tried to snatch victory from the youngster a number of times, with several yellow flags kept the field tight. Former Autumn Colours Classic champion Joe Adams, Luke Gignac and Dan Archibald completed the fast 5 finishers.

 

Qualifying heats earlier in the night went to Mini Stock drivers Danny Benedict, Tyler Junkin, James Townsend, Andy McCann, Chris Allard and Nolan Gould. Jack Dallin and Chris Burrage in the Renegade Trucks. Bryan Mercer, Mark Gordon, Tyler Betts and last Saturday night's feature winner Rick Walt took the Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model preliminary rounds. Jamie Wagar, Nick Lees with a pair and his twin brother Alex won OMRS qualifiers, with Cayden Lapcevich, Ken Grubb, Howie Crowe and Mike Meyer claiming the Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car checkered flags.

 

Bullring bullet points: Oshawa, Ontario's Wayne Hunter pocketed a 50/50 draw payoff of more than $810…Peterborough's Mike Wallace did double duty on the night. He finished 5th in the Late Model Main event and also steered the #15 – usually campaigned by Rob Richards – in Thunder Car action. Donny Beatty was scheduled to drive a Thunder Car in addition to his OMRS ride, but the #R40 full fendered machine was sidelined by mechanical gremlins…With his regular ride, 'Black Magic' damaged a few weeks ago, Howie Crowe pulled 'The Bus' out of the team's shop on the Alderville First Nation.

 

2015's Hot August Night Racing Series wraps-up Saturday, August 29th at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval. The hometown Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car and Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model teams will be in action, along with the INEX Ontario Legends and Ontario Modifieds Racing Series. Pit gates will open at 3:00, with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 5:00 and the night's first green flag at 6:00.

- Autodrome Granby. Le Défi-Vision fut encore une réussite. L'objectif de 50 000 $ que s'était fixé Mira a été atteint et probablement dépassé à l'heure où l'on fait les comptes.

Steve Bernard #54 se mérite pour la première fois de sa vie le titre de M. Modifié, titre que Kayle Robidoux #46 a obtenu 3 fois. Robidoux part d'ailleurs premier dans cette épreuve aux côtés du 54. Bernard #54 se lance d'abord sur la pôle au large. Mais au premier tour complété, c'est toujours le 46 qui mène le bal et ce jusqu'au tour 18. C'est maintenant le 54 qui fait le haut du 46 pour la première position. Yan Bussière #21 parti 7ème se jette troisième dès le départ et malgré l'acharnement du 63 de Dominic Dufault y restera jusqu'à la complétion de l'épreuve. Claude Brouillard #3 parti dixième joint le top 5 seulement au 41ème tour. À 4 tour de la fin, Brouillard fait l'intérieur du 25 pour sa quatrième place définitive. Steve Bernier #25* part 5ème et s'y accroche malgré l'insistance de Gino Clair #22J.

Martin Hébert #43 est parti 7ème. Au tour 12, il fait l'intérieur du 91P. Au 15ème, il s'assure une place sur le podium après des échanges avec le 14 de Kevin Chagnon. Félix Murray #95 part 3ème et dépasse par l'extérieur le 69 de Claude Poirier pour la deuxième place derrière le 91P de Matthieu Laramée. Laramée mène jusqu'au tour 4 où Murray encore à l'extérieur le devance. Murray mènera jusqu'au tour 26 où Martin Hébert lui vole la pôle par l'intérieur. Samuel Desrochers #4 démarré 4ème dépasse d'abord par le bas le 91P de Laramée au 6ème tour pour la deuxième place. Malgré ses efforts de contourner Murray, il n'y parviendra pas, mais se réjouira de son premier podium de la saison. Félix peut quant à lui célébrer son premier podium en Sportsman. Mathieu Desjardins #1M, deuxième au championnat avant ce soir part 11ème.  Fidèle à son habitude, Desjardins dépassera au large Guy Ouellette #32, le 90 de Dany Gagné, etc. Au tour 18, le 1m fait enfin l'extérieur du 91P pour sa 4ème place finale.

Un jaune survient au deuxième tour seulement de la première finale Procam. Le 92 de Joey Ladouceur à l'intérieur lutte avec le 100. 5 de Stéphane Lecours à l'extérieur. Le 91 de Jimmy Roy les suit tout en essayant de garder le dessus sur le 72 de Steve Lavigne. À la relance du 6ème tour, le 72 fort au bas se loge deuxième derrière Ladouceur #92. Ils finiront l'épreuve ainsi. Le 100. 5 de Lecours reste 3ème du tour 6 jusqu'au dernier tour où Adam le dépasse par le large.

Jimmy Roy  #91 donne le coup d'envoi de la deuxième finale. François Adam #16 se lance tout de suite à l'intérieur alors que Roy se tient à l'extérieur. Au 5ème tour, Adam prend ainsi la tête. Joey Ladouceur #92 parti 5ème se lance 4ème devant son frère Lee #51. À la relance du 3ème tour, Joey se tient à l'extérieur du 16 d'Adam. Quand Adam dépasse Roy, Ladouceur #92 surveille encore de la 3ème place. Au 14ème tour, Joey prend le large de Roy pour la deuxième. Alain Béliveau #16 est quatrième depuis le tour 8 où il a dépassé Steve Lavigne #72 par l'extérieur. Béliveau tente le tout pour le tout au dernier tour et réussit à faire sa place sur le podium en haut de Roy.

10x Défi-vision MIRA

 

Les futurs mariés comme le dicte la tradition, offre la première danse. En fait, Stéphane Prévost et Lynn St-Hilaire, sa copilote sont sur le point de se marier et ont mené le premier tour de l'épreuve avec la voiture #22. Le 20 de Normand Laporte copiloté par Marc-André Girouard arrive à suivre de loin le couple, mais pas assez pour que les deux voitures se heurtent dans un bolide arrêté devant la grande estrade. Le 19 piloté par André Sylvestre guidé par Bernard Paradis qui était troisième devient donc le nouveau meneur au deuxième tour. Au 6ème tour, le 20 de Laporte dirige à son tour l'épreuve. À deux tours de la fin, la voiture de Mario Jean qui guide Pierre Champagne part en tête à queue. La voiture des futurs mariés fume et s'immobilise dans le dernier tour devant l'estrade, maintenant que la piste de danse est envahie de … pare-chocs.  Normand Laporte remporte ainsi sa troisième victoire dans le cadre du Défi-Vision.

Quenneville Tightens Devil's Bowl Standings with Third Modified Win

Aube, FitzGerald snap long winless droughts; Bradford goes for three-peat

WEST HAVEN, VT – Vince Quenneville Jr. is keeping things interesting at Devil's Bowl Speedway.  The veteran stock car driver sailed to his third victory of the season on Friday, August 21 and tightened an already-close championship battle.  Other winners at the event, which was sponsored by Brown's Quarried Slate and Brown's Orchard & Farm Stand, included Jamie Aube, Scott FitzGerald, and Chuck Bradford.

Quenneville's win came in the Bond Auto Parts Modified division of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series presented by Yandow Sales & Service and John Deere.  Codie Aubin of Plattsburgh, NY looked the part of a first-time winner by leading the caution-free 30-lap race by a substantial margin, but Brandon, VT racer Quenneville reeled him and completed the pass for the lead with eight laps remaining.

Aubin held on for the runner-up finish, the best result of his career at Devil's Bowl.  Ron Proctor of Charlton, NY finished third in spite of mid-race contact between his car and Quenneville's.  Dave Snow matched his career-best finish in fourth place, while Greg Atkins finished fifth.

Proctor and Quenneville entered the event separated by just four points atop the championship standings; Proctor extended his narrow lead through qualifying to six points, but Quenneville chopped the gap down to just two points (655-653) unofficially – the difference of a single on-track position in a feature race.

North Ferrisburgh, VT native Jamie Aube ended a winless skid exactly one week shy of its 22nd anniversary with his first Devil's Bowl victory in the 30-lap Central Vermont Motorcycles Late Model feature.  The three-time NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (formerly Busch North Series) champion sparred with Seth Bridge for the first half of the race, with the pair often trading the lead two or more times per lap.  Aube officially took the lead over at lap 12 and was out front for the balance of the race.  His most recent victory had been in a Busch North race on August 28, 1993 at the former Riverside Park Speedway in Agawam, MA.

Seventeen year-old Walter J. Hammond of Canaan, NH turned an unlucky season around with a strong runner-up finish.  Todd Stone of Middlebury, VT held off a charging Robert Bryant Jr. for the final podium spot.  Bryant took fourth and unofficially trimmed Josh Masterson's championship lead to 33 points (507-474); Bobby Therrien finished fifth in the race.

Scott FitzGerald was a happy winner in the 15-lap Brileya's Chrysler-Jeep Renegade feature.  Like Aube, the West Rutland, VT racer ended a long drought with his first win on asphalt; his last victory came on the former dirt half-mile at Devil's Bowl in 1994. FitzGerald led every step of the way; Robert Gordon and Don Franklin, each of Milton, VT, completed the podium finishers.

Chuck Bradford of Addison, VT made it three consecutive wins in the Portland Glass Mini Stock division by taking the 15-lap feature race.  Bradford passed early leader Kyle Sorensen to take command at lap 7, then held Sorensen off in the final laps for the win.  Ballston Spa, NY racer Sorensen established a career-high mark with the runner-up finish.  Point leader Chris LaVair of Gabriels, NY finished third.

Quenneville, Aube, FitzGerald, and Bradford were each presented with special slate trophies cut in the shape of the State of Vermont, courtesy of Brown's Quarried Slate.  A group of young race fans also presented their favorite drivers with tasty treats at intermission for the Thomas Dairy Kids Club "Bake a Cake" event.

Devil's Bowl Speedway is back in action on Friday, August 28 with the annual "Double Stack Night" presented by Sugar & Spice Restaurant and Jones' Donuts.  All four weekly NASCAR divisions will run double features, and the event also hosts the fourth annual Great North American Pancake Eating Championship at intermission.  Regular general admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, and free for kids age 12 and under.  Gates open at 5:00 p.m. and racing begins at 7:00 p.m.

Entry List Reaches 60 As 42nd Annual Oxford 250 Approaches

 

Drivers From 11 States and 2 Canadian Provinces Are Currently Entered

NAPLES, ME (August 20) – As the 42nd Annual AIM Recycling Oxford 25 Presented By Kenny U-Pull approaches in less than two weeks at Maine's Oxford Plains Speedway, the entry list continues to grow for North America's greatest short track event.  Currently, 11 states and 2 Canadian provinces are represented in the impressive list of drivers who have entered so far for this impressive race.  Veteran Patrick Laperle of St. Denis, Quebec, Canada becomes the 60th driver to pre-enter for this year's edition of the event.  Since the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) has taken the week off, Laperle, along with former ACT champions, Wayne Helliwell, Jr. and Brian Hoar, will be attempting to make their first starts in the Oxford 250 since 2012.

            Several former 250 winners are among those pre-entered, including two-time defending champion, Travis Benjamin, 2012 winner, Joey Polewarcyzk, two-time winner, Ben Rowe, and Mike Rowe, who will be seeking an unprecedented fourth win in the race.  Entering the 42nd Annual Oxford 250 weekend as the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) AIM Recycling Super Late Model points leader, Mike Rowe will be very aware of fellow championship contenders DJ Shaw and Joey Doiron as they each seek their first wins in the prestigious event.

            Traditionally, the Oxford 250 has attracted drivers from all over North America.  Canadians Don Biederman, Junior Hanley, and Dave Whitlock have all tasted victory in the past as have Southerners like Butch Lindley, Bob Pressley, and Tommy Ellis.  This year's race will be no different with drivers and teams from several Canadian provinces and the Southeast being represented.

            In addition to Laperle's recent entry, PASS AIM Recycling Super Late Model regulars Raphael Lessard and Eric St. Gelais will be making the trip from Qubec, while Nova Scotia's Cole Butcher will be coming to Oxford Plains Speedway seeking his first Oxford 250 win.

            A good crop of drivers and teams from the Southeast have filed entries for this year's AIM Recycling Oxford 250 Presented By Kenny U-Pull.  Tate Fogleman, coming off a season best third place finish recently at South Boston Speedway, will be attempting to make the field for his third start in the 250.  Georgia's Spencer Davis returns to Oxford Plains for the first time since finishing 10th in the 2013 Oxford 250.  Although Tyler Dippel hails from New York, he hopes to make his first Super Late Model start of the year in the 250 driving for the North Carolina-based Fathead Racing team.  Kyle Busch Motorsports, another North Carolina team, will see Oklahoma's Christopher Bell behind the wheel in his first Super Late Model action since recently winning the Truck Series event at Eldora.  Sanford, NC's Jody Measamer will bring the Aquavapor machine to Oxford Plains Speedway as he makes his first attempt at the 250 and North Carolina transplant Derek Kneeland, who doubles as Kyle Larson's spotter, returns in his own car this year trying to make the 250 after failing to qualify last year.

            Also among the recent group of entrants, Veteran Tracy Gordon hopes to make his first start in the 250 since 2005, New Hampshire speedster Derrick Griffith, former PASS North champion Cassius Clark, behind the wheel of Rollie MacDonald's #13, and Cola Shay, who becomes the first driver from Pennsylvania to file an entry for this year's Oxford 250.

A busy week of racing action at Oxford Plains Speedway leading up to the 42nd Annual Oxford 250 Presented By Kenny U-Pull begins on Friday, August 28 with practice for the PASS Super Late Models, along with features for the PASS Modifieds, Outlaws, Ladies, Rebels, Cruisers, Street Stocks and Bandits.  On Saturday, August 29, there will be more practice for the PASS Super Late Models, followed by features for the Valenti Modified Series, Street Stocks, OPS Modifieds, Wicked Good Racers, Classic Lites, and the New England Mini Stock Tour (NEMST).  Then, on Sunday, August 29, the day will begin at 9 AM with rotating practice for all divisions, followed by heat and consolation races at 1:30 PM featuring the PASS Super Late Models.  The PASS Modifieds, Rebels, and Street Stocks will then have feature races followed by the green flag for the 42nd Annual AIM Recycling Oxford 250 Presented By Kenny U-Pull at approximately 5:30 PM.  Additionally, the INEX Legends cars have been added to all 3 days of racing during the weekend at Oxford Plains Speedway.

Une première pour les Mini Sportsman

C'est ce dimanche 23 août que s'est tenu le tout premier programme en circuit routier pour les jeunes pilotes de la série Mini Sportsman sur le complexe de l'Autodrome Montmagny.

Pour l'occasion, 9 pilotes de la série étaient réunis pour vivre cette toute nouvelle expérience.

Si en pratique, certains pilotes demeuraient plus incertains face à ce type de circuit, on a très rapidement pu constater à quelle vitesse ces jeunes pilotes âgés de 7 à 15 ans ont pu s'adapte à ce nouveau défi.

 

Nos pilotes élites

Dominant depuis le début de la saison, le #13 Samuel Boyer a très bien performé sur ce circuit. Ayant fait du karting dans le passé, la configuration lui était davantage familière. Il a été très rapide et a mené les deux finales de la journée ce qui lui donne la 1ere position au combiné.

Aussi familière avec ce type de circuit la #14 Ariane Lacharité s'est vu mériter la 2e position au combiné. La pilote qui a participé l'an dernier au championnat mondial de karting Sodi SWS a su livrer une solide performance ne laissant pas Boyer s'échapper sur la piste.

En troisième position, on retrouve le #38 Mathieu Goulet. Lui qui avait connu une 1ere finale difficile lors du dernier programme a démontré qu'il savait se relever avec un pilotage sans erreur en plus d'être très rapide en piste.

Nos pilotes développements épatants  

Nos pilotes de la classe développement ont sans aucun doute su capter l'attention aujourd'hui. Ces jeunes pilotes qui en sont à leur première arme en course automobile ont su s'adapter de façon étonnante au circuit routier.

Le #7 Wylliam Perron qui éprouvait davantage de difficulté en séance de pratique s'est rapidement repris lors des deux finales. Pilotant de façon brillante, il a mené les deux finales lui donnant accès à la 1ere position du combiné développement.

Les 3 autres positions se sont très chaudement disputées entre la #8 Victoria Bélanger, le #88 Thomas Côté et le #5 Nicolas Côté.

Effectivement, le #88 Thomas Côté avait terminé la 1ere finale en 2e position et menait une excellente course avant qu'un bris mécanique le force à entrer aux puits l'écartant ainsi du podium.

La seconde position au combiné revient à la #8 Victoria Bélanger qui connait une excellente saison. Elle a su ramener reprendre le focus rapidement lors d'une perte de contrôle et filer vers le fil d'arrivée.

La troisième position au combiné revient au plus jeune pilote, le #5 Nicolas Côté âgé de 7 ans à peine. Lors de la première finale, le jeune pilote avait bien performé, mais manquait un peu de vitesse. Il s'est élancé sur la 1ere ligne des pilotes développement pour la 2e finale. Prenant la 2e position après le premier tour, il a maintenu une ligne de course surprenante et a su à deux reprises garder la voiture en piste sans jamais ralentir après avoir pris un virage un peu trop large et visité l'accotement. C'est avec un sourire rempli de fierté qu'il est venu chercher son trophée devant ainsi le plus jeune pilote de la série à obtenir un podium.

Une journée plus que parfaite pour nos jeunes pilotes de Mini Sportsman. Chacun d'entre vous peut être fier de la performance que vous avez livrée sur le tracé de l'Autodrome Montmagny; une des plus belles courses de la saison!

Ste-Croix, QC – Hudson, NH's Joey Polewarczyk Jr. turned an early setback into an opportune moment en route to winning the American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Can-Am 150 at Ste-Croix, QC's Circuit Riverside Speedway on Saturday, August 22.

 

"Joey Pole" was involved in an incident with Martin Goulet Jr. and Brandon Atkins on lap 18 of the 150-lap event and pitted during the caution. Mired back in traffic, Pole opted to pit again for tires during a subsequent caution on lap 51. After driving back up to third on the track, Pole inherited the lead when leaders Wayne Helliwell Jr. and Jean-François Déry pitted under caution with 44 laps remaining.

 

Although Helliwell and Déry drove back up through the field, neither could touch Pole, who won the Can-Am 150 for the second straight year while taking his fifth ACT U.S. Tour victory in 10 races this season. Pole also unofficially retook the points lead from Helliwell by a single marker with three races remaining.

 

"Obviously we weren't planning on spinning early," Pole said. "We thought before the race about when to pit or if we should pit at all if the scenario was right, and then (on the caution) we made the call right at the very last minute, and it paid off.

 

"I didn't think Wayne was going to pit," he added. "He and Déry were running pretty strong when we were in third; it was going to be tough to get around them. So I backed off a little bit trying to save in case there was another yellow. But then they both pitted, and from that point on it was just about holding those guys off."

 

Déry started on the pole after earning a +9 in his qualifying heat through ACT's plus/minus handicapping system and led the first 71 laps, holding off Jonathan Bouvrette and Série ACT point leader Dany Trépanier through a rash of early cautions. Helliwell entered the fray as the race approached its midpoint and got around Déry on the race's seventh restart.

 

Helliwell led the next 35 circuits before making his pit stop and surrendering the top spot to rival Pole. Having been handed the lead, Pole turned up the wick, fending off Trépanier, Déry, and Helliwell on the final two restarts for the win.

 

Déry finished second with Helliwell third. Trépanier extended his Série ACT point lead with a fourth-place finish while Karl Allard charged from the 22nd starting position to finish fifth. Brad Babb, Alex Labbé, Patrick Cliche, Emily Packard, and Patrick Hamel rounded out the top-ten.

 

The ACT U.S. Tour returns to Quebec along with Série ACT on Saturday, September 12 at Vallée-Jct., QC's Autodrome Chaudiere. The doubleheader will see twin 200-lap features for both the ACT Late Models and the Pro All Stars Series Super Late Models. Post time is 6:00pm. Série ACT will be back in action for the Montmagny 150 at Autodrome Montmagny on Saturday, September 5.
