2015-11-13 – C'est officiel, John Walker de Plattsburgh a ratifié une entente pour la location de la piste ½ mile de Airborne Speedway Park (Plattsburgh, NY).  L'homme d'affaires de la région du Lac Champlain, entre autres avec une concession Rent-a-wreck, que nous avons vu comme officiel et directeur de course pour la Série ACT Castrol a conclu hier l'entente avec les copropriétaires Jamie Atkins et Steve Fuller.

 Lors d'un entretien avec Walker, il nous a confirmé vouloir jouer la carte de la stabilité et du local pour 2016.  « Je me dois de faire les bonnes choses pour les amateurs et les compétiteurs.  Mon focus sera sur eux avant tout.  Il n'est pas exclu de faire une programmation spéciale, mais ce n'est pas ma première priorité.  Nous devons avoir une programmation abordable et plaisante pour les spectateurs, comme dans le temps.  Pour les compétiteurs, peux de changements sont prévus – Je veux bâtir sur ce qui est déjà en place.  Toutefois, je contemple ajouter une catégorie qui ne coute pas cher et qui sera plaisante.  Plaisante pour les amateurs et pour les compétiteurs » déclara John Walker.

Le copropriétaire Jamie Atkins ajouta « John amènera un nouveau souffle et sera centré sur les besoins immédiats d'Airborne.  Son expérience en affaires, sa passion pour le stock-car depuis plus de 25 ans avec différentes pistes et organisations font de lui la bonne personne pour Airborne, ses spectateurs et les compétiteurs.   Exactement se que Steve et moins voulions.  Maintenant, nous pouvons lui laisser toute la place pour s'occuper de nos autres entreprises.  Vous pouvez être assuré que Northline Utilities et Fuller Excavating seront du groupe de fiers commanditaires . »

LOCAL BUSINESSMAN TAKES OVER AIRBORNE PARK SPEEDWAY

 

South Plattsburgh: Airborne Park Speedway will open for its 63rd season in 2016 after all.

John Walker of Plattsburgh has reached an agreement with property owners Jamie Atkins and Steve Fuller to lease the historic ½ mile speed plant located in Plattsburgh, N.Y.

"It was just a natural fit, "said Walker." I have been coming to Airborne since I was a baby, in fact, my first job was at Airborne when I was 11 yrs. old picking up trash on Sunday mornings for 75 cents per hour, and I worked for every owner in one capacity or another ever since."

   When asked about his plans for the upcoming season Walker said," I'm going to concentrate on the local fans and racers, my 1st priority is to make sure that the fans who have supported this place over the years will have a safe and family- oriented fun experience for a good price. As for the racers, there will not be any big changes to the divisions in 2016---- I just want to concentrate and build on what is currently in place.  I am thinking of adding another division, something that a person can get into for very little money and still have lots of fun. That's what Saturday night short track racing should be- FUN! Fun for the fans and fun for the racers."

  Facility co-owner Jamie Atkins said, "I think John will bring a breath of fresh air and local focus that Airborne needs. His Plattsburgh business experience, passion for short track racing and over 25 years working with various motorsports organizations we expect will all be positive for the local fans and racers, this is just what Steve and I were hoping for. Now we can continue to step aside and tend to our other businesses while with his energy John can build momentum to carry Airborne Park Speedway into a bright future. Northline Utilities & Fuller Excavating plan to be among the list of dedicated sponsors supporting Airborne and the community.

CHARLOTTE, NC (November 13) – As a long 2015 season for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models gets set to come to an end next weekend at Hickory Motor Speedway, race fans will be focused on a thrilling championship battle.  Four drivers will come to Hickory with a shot at the South's most prestigious Super Late Model championship at the completion of 200 green flag laps in the 10th Annual Mason-Dixon Meltdown.  Since 2006, the Meltdown has seen some of the biggest names in Super Late Model racing go to victory lane including Cassius Clark, Ben Rowe, Johnny Clark, Justin Wakefield, and Preston Peltier.

The top four drivers in the PASS South Super Late Model points, Tate Fogleman, Zane Smith, Matt Craig, and Jody Measamer, are only separated by 23 points heading into the Mason-Dixon Meltdown.  Young Tate Fogleman finds himself in an inviable position as the PASS South points leader.  But at the same time, the third generation racer will face the difficult decision of whether or not he should race hard or be conservative when gets to Hickory Motor Speedway next Saturday.

"Hickory is as good as anywhere for us to try and win a championship," says Fogleman, driver of the family-owned Bull City Race Cars Ford #8.  "We are going to have to find a balance between taking risks and staying safe.  We definitely won't be able to ride around because of the tight points battle, but we also don't need to take a lot of chances and end up in an accident, completely ending our championship hopes."   

After struggling early in the year, with a best finish of only fifth at Anderson Motor Speedway in March to show for his efforts, Fogleman and his team rebounded in the second half.  Fogleman has six top 10's, including a strong third place finish at South Boston Speedway in August.  More importantly for his championship drive, Fogleman's eighth place finish at Concord Speedway last weekend allowed him to stretch his advantage over Zane Smith to 18 points going into the Mason-Dixon Meltdown at Hickory.

"What we have to do is just limit the mistakes because we have finally found speed," says Fogleman.  "We just need to capitalize on the speed we've found.  The team and I feel very confident that we can go to Hickory and come out with the PASS South championship."  

  Entries continue to come in for next Saturday afternoon's Mason-Dixon Meltdown at Hickory Motor Speedway, highlighted by the four PASS South championship contenders, Tate Fogleman, Zane Smith, Matt Craig, and Jody Measamer.  Trevor Sanborn will be back in the Woodman Racing entry and will be joined by fellow New Englanders, Kyle Dsouza and John-Michael Shenette.  Former Hickory Motor Speedway regular Brandon Setzer will be seeking his first Super Late Model win at his hometrack.  Texas driver Derek Scott, Jr. returns to PASS after setting the fast time at Hickory for the Easter Bunny 150 in April.  Veterans Jeff Batten and Jimmy Doyle, along with Northwest racing legend Garrett Evans and rookie contender Vinnie Miller will be looking to end the season with a win.

Action begins on Friday, November 20 at Hickory Motor Speedway with open practice for all divisions from 2-5 PM.  OnSaturday, November 21, practice will begin at 11 AM with qualifying starting at 1:30 PM for the PASS South Super Late Models, PASS Pro Late Models, USAC Eastern Midgets, and Legends Cars, and feature racing at 3 PM.

Alex Labbé retourne en Floride ce weekend (14 et 15 novembre) pour la course Super Late Model la plus importante de la saison, la Florida Governor's Cup 200, courue sur le demi-mille pavé et rapide de New Smyrna, juste au sud de Daytona Beach. 



Montréal, le 12 novembre 2015 – Le pilote de 22 ans de St-Albert sera au volant de la Chevrolet no36 Centre VR Victoriaville / Larue Motorsport / Mécanique Industrielle MG fera face à un plateau de quelque 50 voitures inscrites aux courses qualificatives du samedi en vue de se mériter une place sur la grille pour la course de 200 tours du dimanche. Après une 6e place à cette épreuve la saison passée, tout le monde vise la victoire cette année. 

Vu l'importance de la course, l'équipe habituelle d'Alex a été renforcée pour le weekend. Selon Ghyslain Labbé, le père d'Alex et éminence grise de l'équipe, tout a été mis en œuvre pour arriver à la piste avec la meilleure voiture et équipe du plateau : « Nous avons toujours bien roulé à New Smyrna, mais il nous manquait trop souvent une petite coche, comme un moteur égal aux meilleurs ou un petit vice de tenue de route par exemple. Cette fois-ci, nous avons mis le paquet ! » 

La voiture ainsi que le pilote ont passé la dernière semaine dans les ateliers de Mario Gosselin (près d'Orlando), un préparateur hors pair (et pilote à ses heures) qui a remporté plusieurs courses et titres, et avec qui Labbé travaille depuis plusieurs années. Gosselin pilotera en série NASCAR Xfinity samedi à Phoenix (Arizona) et reviendra à New Smyrna pour la course de Labbé du dimanche après-midi.

André Beaudoin, le chef d'équipe de Larue Motorsport, avec qui Alex court en série ACT, sera aussi sur place pour aider l'équipe. De plus, Dave Jacombs, le préparateur d'Alex en série NASCAR Canada en 2015 et aussi 2016 se joindra à l'équipe avec son chef d'équipe NASCAR Canada, Randy Smith.

Selon Alex, il restait un autre élément à corriger : « Il nous manquait un peu de puissance lors de nos dernières visites à New Smyrna. J'avais beau me glisser à l'intérieur d'une autre voiture en entrée de virage, je perdais souvent cet avantage sur le droit qui suivait. Nous avons donc installé au cours de la semaine un nouveau moteur optimisé selon les règles appliquées à cette course. Avec les nouveaux réglages et 60 ch en plus, nous allons découvrir une nouvelle machine lors des essais de vendredi. »

Alex et Ghyslain Labbé sont fiers de l'équipe d'expérience qu'ils ont créée pour supporter le jeune pilote. Comme l'explique Ghyslain : « Nous avons rassemblé les meilleurs éléments qui ont contribué aux succès d'Alex dans le passé, ainsi que ceux qui font partie de son avenir immédiat, comme en NASCAR Canada avec Dave Jacombs et Bombardier Produits Récréatifs (BRP) pour 2016. » 

Le pilote et la voiture sont en forme, une équipe du tonnerre est en place, et tout le monde ne vise que la victoire !

Bonne nouvelle pour tous les amateurs et les pilotes de Slingshots; ils seront une des classes locales du  RPM Speedway en 2016 ! C'est donc dire qu'ils seront en action lors de tous les programmes à l'horaire pour la prochaine saison.

 

De plus, étant donné qu'on s'attend à avoir un nombre record de pilotes en tant que régulier de la classe Slingshot, il a été décidé d'alterner entre la grande et la petite piste pour la saison 2016. Les pilotes seront donc en action sur la petite piste 1 programme sur 2 et ils seront sur la grande piste de ¼ de mille pour la balance des courses à l'horaire.

 

Ce changement va permettre à nos jeunes pilotes de se développer encore plus rapidement, alors qu'ils devront s'adapter à différentes conditions de pistes et bien entendu à la grandeur de celle-ci également, ce qui est un atout important.

 

Pour tenter du même coup d'améliorer encore plus le spectacle, la petite piste du centre sera de nouveau agrandie. Après avoir incliné les courbes l'automne dernier, nous allons maintenant élargir l'intérieur des courbes pour que ce soit plus large et plat. On parle d'un agrandissement d'environ 8-10 pieds dans les lignes droites et de 15 pieds dans les courbes.

 

Le fait d'agrandir la piste va donner deux belles lignes de courses égales aux pilotes, ce qui risque de donner un spectacle de grande qualité. C'est également l'idéal pour accommoder un plus grand nombre de voitures comme ce sera le cas en 2016.

CHARLOTTE, NC (November 10) – Pro All Stars Series (PASS) officials announced today the final three dates on the 2016 PASS South Super Late Model schedule.  The South's longest running Super Late Model series will return to Anderson Motor Speedway in South Carolina, while Hickory Motor Speedway will receive a third PASS South Super Late Model event in the fall of 2016.  East Carolina Motor Speedway in Robersonville, NC joins the PASS South schedule for the first time in 2016 and will fill out the 11th anniversary season's slate of races.  The 2016 season will consist of 15 races at 8 speedways in three states.

Anderson Motor Speedway in upstate South Carolina will host the PASS South Super Late Models on Friday night,June 17 in an action filled night which will also see the NASCAR Late Model Stocks, BM Modifieds, Legends, and Front Wheel Drive divisions in action.  It will be a busy doubleheader weekend for the PASS South racers, who will also compete the following night at Hickory Motor Speedway.

Speaking of Hickory Motor Speedway, the legendary track which has operated since 1951, will host the PASS South Super Late Models three times in 2016.  PASS returns to its longest running speedway on Saturday night, September 24, joining the previously announced 11th Annual Easter Bunny 150 on Saturday, March 26 and the event scheduled forSaturday night, June 18.   

East Carolina Motor Speedway in Robersonville, NC has become one of the premier facilities in eastern North Carolina and will complete the 2016 PASS South Super Late Model with an event there on Saturday night, July 30.  While the tricky 3/8 mile, D-shaped speedway will be hosting PASS for the first time in 2016, it will not be the first time Super Late Models have raced there.  Throughout the 1980's and 1990's, East Carolina was well known for featuring what was then known as the Late Model Sportsman division.  The PASS South Super Late Models continue to be very popular with area fans and thanks to the Perry family, PASS will return to eastern North Carolina for their only visit in 2016.

The 2016 PASS South Super Late Model season will begin on the weekend of February 5-6 at Greenville-Pickens Speedway with the return of the Winter Meltdown, which will also feature the Limited Late Models and Trucks divisions in action.  The final race of 2016 will be the 14th Annual North-South Shootout at Concord Speedway on November 4-5, featuring PASS along with the Tour-type Modifieds and additional support divisions.

PASS also recently announced that the biggest short track race on asphalt, the 43rd Annual Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine will take the green on Sunday, August 28, 2016, paying $25,000 to the winner plus lap leader bonus money.

A single checkered flag has made a huge difference in Tim Kerr's Super DIRTcar racing career. The 29 year-old from Picton, Ontario claimed Big Block Modified win – Sunday, November 8th – in the World Finals event at Charlotte, North Carolina.

 

Running weekly on the ovals of Central New York against some of the best in the business and on the highly competitive Super DIRTcar Series, Kerr – who works as a carpenter at his family's Prince Edward County construction business – scored a mid-season feature win and finished 17th in points at Brewerton Speedway. From there, his confidence grew as the team looked for even more success.

 

"It's a busy year with a lot of travelling," confided Kerr, whose schedule begins during the annual swing through Florida in February. "We're usually the only Canadian team in the field at almost every show we run. When the tour stops at tracks like Brockville, Cornwall and Merrittville we get a chance to enjoy some home cooking, but for the most part we stand alone in the crowd."

 

The Big Block Modifieds – along with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car and Late Model teams – were slated to run a pair of shows that would determine the 2015 championships during the season ending spectacular at the dirt track adjacent to Charlotte Motor Speedway. After failing to advance to the Friday, November 6th main event through his heat race or last chance qualifier, Kerr used a provisional spot to take the green flag in the 40 lap finale, where he'd advanced to 19th at the checkered flag. Kerr says that when inclement weather delayed the weekend's final round of action, it was actually a blessing in disguise.

 

"We could have taken a day off, but instead the crew went to work and made some changes on the car," said the driver. "We wanted to end the year on a positive note and that meant getting everything we could out of the last show of the season. The goal of everyone in the field is to race their way into the main event. Taking a provisional for the first night wasn't the way we wanted things to happen, so we clearly needed to put our ducks in a row."

 

The #07 Hubert Kerr Construction, C.F. Evans Lumber Company – Picton, The Bronskill Group, Greenbush Electric, Picton Home Hardware Building Centre, The Main Stop – Picton and Threadworks Custom Embroidery – Deseronto Bicknell Racing Products machine, powered by an Enders Racing Engine qualified for Sunday'sheadline event with a 2nd place finish in the third heat and after some last-minute adjustments by his crew, hit the track for the 'A' main.

 

After following Australian Peter Britten who led the first 30 laps, Kerr – who began his career in a couple of different divisions at Brighton Speedway – took advantage of a slight miscue by the Aussie to take a lead he would never relinquish, on the way to a payday worth $8,000 and his first career Super DIRTcar Series victory.

 

"This is easily the biggest win of my career and luckily I'll have the entire off-season to let it sink in," admitted Kerr. "I hope we'll be able to carry this momentum into the 2016 season."

NASCAR Announces 2016 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Schedule

Companion Weekend at Iowa Speedway Headlines 23 Events

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 10, 2015) – NASCAR today announced the 2016 schedule for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, which features 21 tracks hosting 23 events in the U.S. and Canada. As with the previously announced NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR XFINITY Series schedules, agreements have also been reached with the tracks to host the Camping World Truck Series through 2020.

 

Iowa Speedway will host its first NASCAR national series companion weekend, with the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series joining the NASCAR XFINITY Series on June 18-19. Other changes for 2016 are:

·         The Dover International Speedway event moves two weekends earlier in the schedule (May 13).

·         The first visit to Texas Motor Speedway moves one week later to June 10.

·         The Gateway Motorsports Park event moves two weekends later in the schedule to June 25.

·         The Canadian Tire Motorsport Park event returns to the Sunday of Labor Day (U.S.) weekend, on Sept. 4.

 

"For more than 20 years, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has been home to some of the closest side-by-side racing in the sport, and we're committed to delivering that to our fans for many years to come," said Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer. "We expect that the stability of five-year agreements will benefit the entire industry, and anticipate the continuation of compelling NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship battles, like the one we're watching unfold in 2015."

 

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series kicks off the 2016 season during Daytona Speedweeks, as the iconic track welcomes fans to experience its $400 million redevelopment project, DAYTONA Rising.  After Daytona, the trucks will race at Atlanta Motor Speedway in a double-header with the NASCAR XFINITY Series for the second consecutive season. Two popular Wednesday night events – at Eldora Speedway (July 20) and Bristol (Aug. 17) – also return to the schedule for 2016.

 

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series closes the 2016 season with five events in five weekends, including three triple-header weekends with the NASCAR Sprint Cup and NASCAR XFINITY Series at Texas Motor Speedway, Phoenix International Raceway, and Homestead-Miami Speedway. FOX Sports will provide broadcast coverage of every race event in the 2016 NASCAR Camping World Truck season.

David Garbo, Jr. Dominates To Claim North-South Shootout Victory At Concord

MIDLAND, NC (November 8) – David Garbo, Jr. took the lead on the second lap and led the rest of the way for his first career Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model win in Sunday afternoon's 13th Annual North-South Shootout at Concord Speedway.

            "I drove in a Late Model Stock race here three years ago and Concord has been my favorite racetrack ever since," said Garbo, driver of the Garbo Lobster #8 for the Fathead Racing team.  "We decided to bring a crate motor here and I really wasn't that sure about the decision because this place is so fast, but it definitely worked to our favor in the end."

            In qualifying Friday night, William Byron took the fast qualifying time by just .005 seconds over Joey Padgett with a lap of over 110 miles per hour on the half mile speedway.  Following the top 10 qualifiers redraw, Brandon Ward and rookie Austin Thompson would move up to the front row, while Byron would slot into the fourth starting position.  However, Ward would not be able to make the start due to a broken shifter.

            Thompson jumped out to the lead at the drop of the green flag, but would be quickly overtaken on the next lap by Garbo entering turn one.  The first caution of the night would wave on lap four when Wes Burton spun exiting turn three.

            Back under green, Garbo continued to lead over Byron and Clay Rogers, who had moved to the front from the tenth starting position.  The hardest crash of the night occurred on lap 15 when defending North-South Shootout winner Ryan Moore had a problem on the right front of his RC Moore Transportation #74 in the dogleg.  Moore's Chevrolet veered hard right, slamming the wall exiting the dogleg.  Despite the severity of the crash, Moore emerged from his car unhurt.

            Garbo continued to maintain control over the field, while the PASS South winner at Concord Speedway in May, Zane Smith, made his way into the top 10 from the 22ndstarting position.  Late in the race, Byron began to fade, allowing Rogers to move into second.  Jared Irvan and Padgett would follow Rogers around Byron a few laps later.  Garbo completely dominated to take the win over Rogers, Padgett, who passed Irvan for third on the final lap, and Byron.  Rounding out the top 10 were Jeramie Whorff, Christian Eckes, Tate Fogleman, Kaz Grala, and Smith.
