Bailey Jacobs Earns His First Career Peterborough Speedway Thunder Car Feature Win

On what was likely the warmest night of the season, Bailey Jacobs – arguably the hottest driver in the Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car field at Peterborough Speedway – scored the first main event checkered flag of his young career.

 

With a background that includes multiple wins and division championships in the karting ranks, the youngster from Warsaw, Ontario – who recently celebrated his 19th birthday – entered the 2016 season at the venue known as Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval with a pocket full accolades to show for his first campaign in stock car racing, including a 5th place in the final point standings, along with the rookie of the year and hard charger awards. One of the few things that was missing from his resume was a trip to the winner's circle.

 

"We had a great first year and learned a lot," said the second season standout. "It was a steep learning curve, but Dad and I got plenty of help along the way. Week by week, I felt more comfortable and confident in the car and that allowed the opportunity to push things just a little bit harder to see where things could end up. I knew that we had the potential to score a feature win. The only question was when it would happen."

 

During the opening pre-race practice session – Saturday, July 23rd – the #60 machine was loose coming-off the corners but the driver kept pushing. In between rounds, Bailey Jacobs and his crew chief/father Jeff discussed making some changes to tighten things up, but elected to stay the course and roll the dice that changing track conditions would take care of the issue instead.

 

After scoring a win in his first qualifier and finishing a close second in his next heat, it was time to get ready for the main event. By luck of the draw, Jacobs would take the green flag from the pole position but with Nick Oram – who has been logging some solid runs lately – alongside and the division's current point leader Howie Crowe and others just as hungry for a trip to the winner's circle.

 

"On the drop of the green flag, I had to get any advantage I could, but I was also mindful of where everyone else was in the running order," admitted the talented runner. "The car was still a little on the loose side and as we came off the 4th turn, the back broke loose and opened the door to the inside line. Oram was close enough that he got the nose in; but that was when the caution flew. I've never been so happy to see a yellow flag in my life."

 

Over the race's closing stages, Jacobs kept the challengers in his rear-view mirror and parked his #60 Kawartha Kart Club/T.G. Quirk Towing/Bernardi Consulting/Chemong Home Solutions/Lakefield Napa Auto Parts/Close Quarters Tree Removal/Dart Heating & Air Conditioning/Clarke Motorsports Communications Chevrolet in victory lane, where he celebrated with family, friends and fans.

 

The Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car division will return to action Saturday, August 6th at Peterborough Speedway.

After more than about a month on the road, the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. – returned to its unofficial home base of Peterborough Speedway – Saturday, July 23rd – for the Mid Summer Bash; the 6th event on this year's schedule.

 

A baker's dozen of the popular open-wheeled machines and their crews signed the pit gate waiver at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval, looking to add their name to the list of 2016's main event winners. There would be 25 laps to settle the score, as Alex Lees and Richard Warnes brought the starting field to the green flag.

 

Lees would take the lead early, with Duane Cinnamon following along and the tour's most recent winner Robert Warnes hunting for positions by working the outside line. As Lees built-up a substantial advantage, he caught-up with the tail end of the field and began lapping cars. As he came up on a trio of slower traffic – who were also racing for position in the running order – his lead began to shrink. Chris Burrows would take away the runner-up spot from Cinnamon, but when a late race yellow created a green, white, checkered finish all bets were off.

 

The field was lined-up for a double-file restart, with everyone eyeing the checkered flag that was waiting at the end of the 2 lap showdown. Alex Lees would get the jump he needed and held on for the win, with Cinnamon and Burrows swapping spots again on the way to the line. Stu Robinson Jr. and John Baker Jr. completed the fast 5. Brad Stevenson, Cory Horner, Ryan Dick, Rob Warnes, Ryan Babin, Randy Hollingsworth, Rick Warnes and Willow Barberstock rounded-out the finishing order.

 

Earlier in the night, Stu Robinson Jr., John Baker Jr. and Brad Stevenson with a pair took the OMRS qualifying events. The Ontario Modifieds Racing Series returns to the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City Saturday, August 6th.

Deux "Top 10" et du plaisir en piste pour Valérie Chiasson !

 

Le 24 juillet 2016.- Aux commandes de sa Nissan Micra S portant les couleurs du Groupe Nissan Gabriel, la pilote québécoise Valérie Chiasson disputait ce week-end deux nouvelles courses de la Coupe Nissan Micra. Des épreuves qui marquaient le début de la seconde moitié de la saison et qui furent bien différente avec un déluge de pluie le samedi puis un chaud soleil estival le dimanche. Des conditions qui n'ont pas dérangé outre mesure Valérie Chiasson qui a récolté deux "Top 10". Un résultat prometteur en vue des derniers rendez-vous de la saison 2016.

 

« Je connais par cœur le Circuit Mont-Tremblant mais j'avoue que je n'avais jamais piloté la Micra du Groupe Nissan Gabriel dans de telles conditions atmosphériques » mentionne Valérie en référence à la course du samedi après-midi, lancée tout juste après un violent orage et alors que des trombes d'eau s'abattaient encore sur le site. « On est là pour piloter, c'est tout à fait normal que les officiels aient lancé la course et je pense qu'ils l'ont fait de bonne manière. Pour moi, qui était qualifiée onzième, la visibilité était nulle dans le peloton. J'ai parfois gagné une ou deux places, parfois je les reperdaient, c'était une course intéressante pour les spectateurs mais un peu délicate pour les pilotes » confie Valérie Chiasson. C'est finalement en dixième position qu'elle a complété cette épreuve.

 

Dimanche, le soleil était cette fois au rendez-vous. Tout comme la veille, c'est depuis la onzième place sur la grille de départ, dans le peloton des vingt-quatre pilotes en action, que la pilote du Groupe Nissan Gabriel a débuté l'épreuve. Valérie Chiasson a réalisé un excellent départ. « J'ai gagné quatre positions lors de la première moitié de la course, ma voiture était vraiment très compétitive, c'était un grand plaisir de piloter dans ces conditions. Malheureusement, il y a eu quelques contacts, j'ai gagné et perdu des places dans l'aventure et j'ai terminé dixième avec une roue un peu endommagée à l'avant-droit » indique Valérie, qui a livré l'une des luttes les plus spectaculaires de toute la course avec le prometteur pilote NASCAR Patrick Dussault, qui disputait son premier événement en Coupe Nissan Micra.

 

« Je fais de la course pour gagner et donc récolter deux "Top 10" pourrait être perçu comme un peu en-deçà de mes objectifs. Mais honnêtement ce fut un bon week-end, les membres de l'équipe Total qui préparent désormais ma voiture ont fait un travail remarquable et notre collaboration est excellente. J'ai hâte aux prochains événements car j'ai eu beaucoup de plaisir lors de cette Classique d'été 2016 au Circuit Mont-Tremblant » précise la pilote québécoise, par ailleurs seule représentante canadienne de la commission "Women in Motorsport" de la Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, qui encourage la participation féminine en sport automobile.

 

Le prochain rendez-vous de Valérie Chiasson en Coupe Nissan Micra est fixé à dans trois semaines, avec deux nouvelles courses présentées dans le cadre du Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières.

-Autodrome Granby. Ce mercredi 28 juillet dans le cadre du 100 tours de la Super Dirt Car Series, David Hébert #ONE a été le meilleur gros blocs québécois en terminant 5ème et Michael Parent #25P, le mieux placé des petits blocs en finissant 9ème parmi les gros !

 

Sport Compact 15 tours

 

Bruno Lafontaine #19 part 5ème, mais dès le premier tour passe 3ème. Au tour 3, Lafontaine est deuxième derrière Alexis Charbonneau #49. Au 4ème tour, Lafontaine se jette à l'intérieur de Charbonneau pour la pôle qu'il ne laissera plus.

Pierre-Olivier Breault #20 parti 11ème parvient 4ème dès le 3ème tour en faisant l'intérieur du 666 de Kevin Vilnis-Caron. Marc Véronneau #8 arrive 3ème au tour 3, puis au 5ème tour deuxième devant Breault. Véronneau brise au 13ème tour laissant la place à Breault, Charbonneau et Vilnis-Caron. Stéphane St-Cyr #151 part 18ème. À la deuxième relance du tour 3, il se propose 5ème. Or les autres reprises lui seront moins favorables. Il reculera en 8ème position. Au dernier tour, Sylvain Marcoux #44 et lui s'échangeront la position 5, que St-Cyr remportera.

Le 18H de Peter Britten parti premier mène les 12 premiers tours jusqu'à ce que le 44 de Stewart Friesen parti 3ème en dessine le contour au large pour la pôle. Au 45ème tour, Friesen frappe le mur entre les courbes 3 et 4 parce que déporté à l'extérieur. Il se retrouve 3ème derrière Matt Sheppard #9S parti 11ème et David Hébert #ONE parti 8ème. Au 54ème tour, Friesen arrive à reprendre le dessus du ONE pour sa deuxième position finale. À la relance du 75ème tour, Jimmy Phelps #98H devance David Hébert pour la 3ème place. Enfin, le 20 de Brett Hearn passe à l'intérieur le ONE à deux tours de la fin. Michael Parent #25P parti 7ème devant Hébert lui cède du terrain sur le départ, mais arrive à le suivre au premier tour en faisant l'intérieur du 7 de Mike Maresca. Parent demeure 7ème pendant 12 tours. À la relance, il est 9ème. Il se fera 8ème et reviendra 9ème après que Tim Fuller l'eut dépassé par l'extérieur au tour 83.

C'est Shane Pecore qui en bénéficiera étant deuxième depuis le tour 13 devant Mlle Plante. Au tour 20, Alex Lajoie fait l'intérieur de Josianne pour la 3ème place. Martin Hébert #43 fait pareil au tour 37. Au 40ème passage, Alexandre Salvas en haut et François Adam #01 en bas luttent pour la 6ème place derrière la 97. Au tour suivant, les deux la dépasse par l'intérieur. À la relance suivant le départ de Pelletier, Josianne remettra les pattes devant Salvas et Adam, mais ils reprendront leur place devant.

Au 20ème tour, Payeur reprendra la position de tête, mais à la relance, Viens reviendra plus fort pour aller chercher sa première victoire de la saison. Bruno Cyr #33 part 9ème. Dès la reprise du 2ème tour, il se glisse 5ème où il reste jusqu'à ce que le 48 de Jocelyn Roy le dépasse par l'intérieur au tour 14. Le 33 lutte longtemps avec le 88 de Jeffrey Lapalme à l'extérieur. À la relance du 20ème tour, Cyr se jette 3ème. Après un 4 de large avec le 18 de Cossette à l'intérieur, le 48 à ses côtés et le 338 à l'extérieur, Cyr parvient 2ème et Roy 3ème. Au 23ème tour, André Cossette #18 et Steve Chaput #38 dépasse le 338 de Payeur à l'extérieur.

Suite à la remise du Langis Caron Frameco Ltee 150, il a été décidé par le conseil d'administration de remettre le programme en entier le Samedi 24 septembre prochain.

Le programme de 3 fois 50 tours avec inversion des pilotes sur le tour du meneur représentera donc pour les pilotes de la Série Sportsman Qc Lucas Oil ainsi que pour nos 3 classes régionales c'est-à-dire les Amateur et Sport Compact Élite Oricom Internet et les Semi Pro Garage Gilles Roy, le championnat de fin de saison.

L'intermission du programme sera animé par le show de boucane présenté par Maxime Latulippe.

L'horaire détaillée sera publiée dans la semaine avat le programme mais nous pouvons déjà vous confirmer que le programme débutera en après-midi.

Tous les détenteurs de billets du 17 ou 22 juillet pourront utiliser leur billet lors de ce programme. Si jamais il vous était impossible de vous présenter, vous pouvez toujours échanger votre billet lors d'un autre programme (moyennant la différence de coût s'il y a lieu).

Super DIRTcar series - Gros blocs

Spectaculaire!

 

 

Le promoteur, Yan Bussière ne pouvait demander mieux comme température après avoir été forcé d'annuler les 2 programmes précédents à cause de la pluie. Donc c'est avec un mois d'inactivité que l'action reprend, mais pas à moitié, avec la "Super DIRTcar series - Big Blocks modified". Mettant en vedettes les stars de la discipline.  Et croyez moi avec la météo pluvieuse des derniers jours, les spectateurs présents ont eu droit à TOUT UN SPECTACLE avec une piste collante, comme dans le bon vieux temps! 

 

Jordan Poirier, ne l'a pas eu facile en Lightning Sprint. Lors de cette finale de 20 tours, Jordan fut menacé par, celui qui apprivoise de plus en plus la piste de Drummondville, Eric Boisvert qui termine sur la 2e marche du podium suivi de Guillaume Neiderer.

En fin de soirée les Sportsman bénéficiaient d'une piste encore collante pour cette finale DIRT de 50 tours. Une course qui s'est déroulé à un rythme d'enfer sans aucun drapeau jaune. Les Ontariens venus nous visiter ne l'ont pas eu facile. Michael Richard au volant de sont 3M à dominé la course de bout en bout non sans s'être fait menacer sérieusement à quelques reprises par le meneur au championnat de piste, Bryan Cloutier. Dany Gagné qui tente de rattraper Cloutier au championnat s'occupe de la 3e place. Ont retrouve le premier Ontarien venu nous visiter pour cette manche DIRT, le talentueux Shane Pecore à la 5ème place tout juste derrière Fel Murray.

Quoique bosselée, ce qui ajoutait au spectacle, la piste collante à souhait a offert aux pilotes Modifiés gros blocs, l'occasion de s'exprimer et d'exploiter toute leur puissance à fond. Parti 2e, Brett "the Jett" Hearn tente de conserver la tête mais il y aura des prétendants. Larry Wight a donné tout un spectacle, brutalisant sa voiture comme ce n'est pas permis. Il sortait de la 4e courbe sur 2 roues, et n'a jamais lâché ce rythme éreintant durant les 100 tours. Le vétéran, Frank Cozze, plus sage, attendait le bon moment et son rythme moins violent lui a permis de renouer avec  la victoire. Ce dernier n'avait pas courus en modifiés à Drummondville depuis 2006. Un, pour qui s'était sa première présence à l'Autodrome Drummond, le longiligne Mike Mahoney à fait un excellent boulot s'offrant Stewart Friesen en fin de course pour la 3e marche du podium. Le meilleur Québécois sera Steve Bernier à sa première course avec un gros bloc, termine cette course à la 5ème place derrière Stewart Freisen, que l'ont a vu la semaine passé en "Nascar truck" sur la terre battue du côté de Eldora.

Teenager Becomes Youngest Race Winner in Pinty's Series History

SASKATOON, SASK. – Wednesday night at Wyant Group Raceway is one Cayden Lapcevich won't forget about for a long time.

 

After scoring a pair of runner-up finishes in what he called 'frustrating nights' earlier this season, the 16 year-old Grimsby, Ontario native can finally celebrate.

 

Lapcevich took the lead in a tight battle with veteran Jason Hathaway midway through the race and held off former NASCAR Pinty's Series champion L.P. Dumoulin after a late caution to score his first series victory in the Velocity Prairie Thunder 250 at Wyant Group Raceway.

 

He scored the win in just his 13th start, to become the youngest winner in the history of the series at 16 years, eight months and 24 days – eclipsing the old record held by J.R. Fitzpatrick of 19 years, one month and 26 days set in 2007.

 

Lapcevich first took the lead on Lap 135 as he and Hathaway raced side-by-side for eight laps. 

 

After Hathaway took the lead on Lap 136-137, Lapcevich reclaimed the top spot on Lap 138 and remained out front with leads by as much as six car lengths.

 

Hathaway and Lapcevich traded the lead two more times before the teenager reclaimed the point on Lap 145 and stayed out front until the eighth and final caution of the race was given to the field on Lap 237.

 

Dumoulin, who won this race in 2014 for his first oval track win, took the lead after the restart on Lap 246 before Lapcevich made the pass for the lead on Lap 248 and hold on for the victory.

 

Alex Labbe followed Dumoulin in third to score his best finish since his win at Chaudière in June with Alex Tagliani and Andrew Ranger completing the top five.

 

D.J. Kennington was sixth followed by Gary Klutt, Kevin Lacroix, Noel Dowler and Mark Dilley to complete the top 10.

 

Lapcevich pulled to within one point of Ranger in the driver points battle (289-288) with Tagliani's car owner Colin

Livingston holding on to the top spot in the owner's championship standings by seven points over Doug Kennington (296-289).

 

The Velocity Prairie Thunder 250 will be televised on TSN on Saturday, Aug. 6 at 4:30 p.m. ET and on RDS on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 1:30 p.m. ET

 

The NASCAR Pinty's series will return to action on Aug. 14 at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres for the Can-Am 50 Tours.

Final Oxford 250 Prep Awaits PASS Stars At Oxford Plains Doubleheader This Weekend

NAPLES, ME (July 28) – With the 43rd Annual HP Hood Oxford 250 just a month away, Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model teams will have one more opportunity to prepare at Oxford Plains Speedway with this Sunday afternoon's HP Hood 150.  Over 50 teams have pre-entered for the HP Hood Oxford 250 to date and, with over 70 teams expected for the biggest and most prestigious Super Late Model race in the North America, track time at Oxford Plains will be at a premium.  In addition, a full slate of local action will be on tap Saturday nightat Oxford Plains Speedway, featuring the Budweiser Super Late Models, with an additional practice scheduled for the headline division to give teams as much track time as possible.   

Two-time HP Hood Oxford 250 winner, Travis Benjamin, is looking to take advantage of every opportunity available to get on track at Oxford Plains.  After getting caught up in an early crash last year, Benjamin hopes this weekend that he and the Petit Motorsports team can get the data that they need to help him get back to victory lane when they return in late August.

"This weekend's race at Oxford is very important, I think," says Benjamin, who scored back-to-back HP Hood Oxford 250 wins in 2013 and 2014.  "In 2013, we won the Oxford race before the 250 and it just gives you a lot of confidence for when we head back next month."

In addition to giving teams valuable track time at Oxford Plains Speedway, this weekend's HP Hood 150 will also give them a chance to compete in a longer event with similar conditions to those that are expected for when they return.  In his first year with the Petit team and after scoring their first win together recently at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway, Benjamin feels they are hitting their stride as they prepare for the biggest race of the year.

"I think our team, led by Mark Lyden, is really working well together," says Benjamin.  "Our communication is getting better each and every week.  I think our setups for tracks with no bite or grip are really great and I'm really excited for the next three weeks."  

Action begins this Saturday afternoon at Oxford Plains Speedway with a full slate of weekly racing set to go green at 7 PM, including the Budweiser Super Late Models.  Former 3-time HP Hood Oxford 250 winner, Mike Rowe, will also be competing in the Figure 8 division.  On Sunday, pit gates will open at 1 PM, followed by rotating practice from 3 PM to 5:20 PM, with heat races beginning at 6 PM, followed by main events for the PASS North Super Late Models, PASS Modifieds, and Legends.
