Brandt Graham is Heading 'Home' to Peterborough Speedway

For the first few season of his stock car racing career, Brandt Graham was a regular in the Mini Stock division at Canada's Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval. At the end of the 2014 campaign, the 18 year-old second generation speedster from Orono, Ontario announced plans that his team would make the transition to the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series and the youngster has been making headlines ever since.

His 2015 freshman season was comprised of a streak of early top 10 finishes, but it wasn't long before the driver of the #14 machine had scored his first podium-worthy effort – a second place – Saturday, August 8^th at Peterborough Speedway. Brandt Graham says it was extremely rewarding to have such a strong performance on the familiar turf of the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City.

"The team worked hard to get the car ready for every race and that showed on the track," said the driver. "Coming back to Peterborough again is something we've been looking forward to since this year's schedule was announced. Having won the last 2 races – including the $1000 'Boss of the Beach' bonus at Sauble certainly has on us on a roll and we feel like we're capable of winning whenever and wherever we race. I can't wait to hit the track again this weekend."

With Brandt Graham taking his Sportsman Cup Series ride to Peterborough Speedway for the first time in about a year, his crew will spend some extra hours going over the set-up notes that led to the runner-up finish during his rookie campaign. The team will have an added bonus, with details of Craig Graham's performance from the Chase for the Autumn Colours Classic event on July 3^rd to augment their raceday information.

"When it comes to documentation, our crew is one of the best," said Brandt Graham. "They keep track of everything. Dad and my grandfather are always writing things down. We have notations about temperature and weather conditions, spring rates, tire wear and anything else that can apply to how the car will handle. Even though we have a ton of information to work from, we usually start an event with a fresh page and then blend what we learn in practice with details we've brought to the track to help us find our ideal set-up."

To promote the Saturday, August 6^th Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series return to Peterborough Speedway, Brandt Graham will be profiled on 'The CHEX Daily' Wednesday, August 3^rd. The segment will air in 4 installments. One during the noon hour news program and 3 more during 'The CHEX Daily' broadcast, between 5:00 and 6:00.

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Billy Lussier and Jason Durgan were the stars of the show on the half-mile Asphalt Track at Devil's Bowl Speedway on Saturday, July 30, splitting twin 25-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series races. Each driver used the outside lane to win in the Bond Auto Parts Sportsman Modified division on Community College of Vermont Night. Other winners included Josh Masterson, Scott FitzGerald, Zach Wood, and Gerald Grant.

Durgan, of Morrisonville, N.Y., scored in the opening Modified race, methodically working from 12^th starting position. Veteran racer Jimmy Ryan of Shoreham, Vt., led the first 19 laps, holding off Joey Roberts for much of the way. Durgan was able to complete a pass for the lead at lap 20 and sailed to the victory – his third in a row. Ryan was the runner-up, followed by Ron Proctor, Roberts, and Vince Quenneville Jr.

In the nightcap, Fair Haven, Vt., racer Lussier had a strong drive on the top. Pole starter Alex Bell led from the start before Lussier charged on the high side, taking over at lap nine. From there he held off a persistent fight from Quenneville to take the second win of his career and of the season. Quenneville finished second, while Durgan recovered from an early tangle to finish third. Bell was a season-best fourth with Proctor fifth.

Josh Masterson of Bristol, Vt., notched his fourth win of the season in the 30-lap Central Vermont Motorcycles Late Model race. With a low handicap from three weeks of subpar results, Masterson started from the pole position. He was never able to shake off a 30-lap challenge from Seth Bridge, though, and the two ran virtually every lap bumper-to-bumper. Robert Bryant Jr. nipped Steve Miller by inches at the finish line for third place, and Todd Stone finished fifth in his first start of the season.

West Rutland, Vt.'s Scott FitzGerald won a hairy 15-lap race for the Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers Renegade class. FitzGerald was crossed up twice in the final five laps after contact from championship rival Jim McKiernan but held onto his racecar and ran to his fourth win of the year. McKiernan left nothing on the table and made a bold move for the win in the final corner but spun his car out of contention. Matt Monaghan survived the scrape to take second, followed by R.J. Germain, Tony Salerno, and McKiernan.

The Portland Glass Mini Stock division continued its recent run as one of the most exciting classes at Devil's Bowl, with a barnburner of a 15-lap feature. Packed together with no less than five other cars, Garrett Given Sr. led the majority of the race before rookie Zach Wood took over late in the going. Wood, of Georgia, Vt., went on to his third win of the season, leading a 1-2-3 sweep for his three-car team. His father, Brett Wood, finished second with teammate Eric Messier third. C.J. LaVair and Brad Bertrand completed the unofficial top five.

All results in all four divisions are currently unofficial pending the results of post-race technical inspection. Any penalties and/or adjustments in finishing position, if necessary, will be announced soon.

Gerald Grant of Addison, Vt., won the annual one-on-one "Street-Legal Spectator Races" event to close out the evening. After easily sweeping his first two matchups in single-lap races, Grant's 2013 Toyota Tundra pickup – with an estimated 600 horsepower – won an exciting two-lap finale against Nate Corcoran, driving a 2011 Honda Civic. Other entries included a Chevrolet Camaro, a BMW 330xi, and a block-long 1964 Cadillac Deville.

Devil's Bowl Speedway's half-mile Asphalt Track is back in action on Saturday, August 6 at 7:00 p.m. as Carrara Masonry & Concrete presents the fifth annual "C.J. Richards Memorial" 67-lap event for the Sportsman Modifieds, along with Late Models, Renegades, Mini Stocks, a 50-lap Enduro Series race, and fireworks. Special general admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors (62+) and teens (13-17), and free for kids 12 and under.

Mid-Season Championships to be rescheduled, date to be named later

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil's Bowl Speedway has postponed its Dirt Track racing program again due to intermittent afternoon rain showers and an uncertain forecast on Sunday, July 31. The double-points Mid-Season Championship event, presented by Whelen Engineering, will be rescheduled for a date to be announced soon.

The weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Sportsman Modifieds, Renegades, and Mini Stocks were on the card, along with the Outlaw Midget Series. Including race events and practice days, Sunday registers as the eighth rainout at the Rutland County facility in 2016.

"There have been multiple periods of rain here at the speedway on Sunday and several forecasts call for more precipitation this evening," Devil's Bowl Speedway promoter Mike Bruno said. "Of course we want to race, but we are not willing to force our race teams and fans to spend their time and money to travel to Devil's Bowl only to get rained on again. It doesn't make good sense from a racer's perspective, or from our business perspective."

Racing returns on Saturday, August 6 at 7:00 p.m. on the half-mile Asphalt Track as Carrara Masonry & Concrete presents the fifth annual "C.J. Richards Memorial" 67-lap event for Sportsman Modifieds. WOOD LE CONQUÉRANT! Plattsburgh, NY – 2016-07-30 – Le pilote de Plattsburgh, NY Robin Wood a dominé l'Invasion Canadienne à la piste de Airborne Park Speedway (Plattsburgh, NY). Il a remporté la course de qualification et a remporté les deux épreuves de vingt tours dans la division des Sportsman Autodrome St-Eustache, lui donnant du même coup la victoire au combiné avec un pointage de 2. Le pilote de Mascouche, "gentil homme" Martin Fauteux, a terminé 2e au combiné en terminant 2e et 4e. Les deux segments ont été disputé très proprement par Fauteux et nu été un léger dérapage en mi-course dans le 2e segment il aurait surement terminé dans le top-3. Jonathan Mayer de Blainville (Québec, Canada) a terminé à quelques pouces de Wood dans le 2e segment. D'ailleurs, Mayer qui a parti outside pole, semblait se diriger vers une première victoire en finale dans la division Sportsman. Mais Wood a comblé le déficit, après avoir pris le départ 8e, avec seulement quelques pieds à faire. L'avantage de Wood sur Mayer était de 3 pieds se qui relégua Mayer au 2e rang. Mayer, dans le premier segment, lors du seul drapeau jaune de la soirée a vu son moteur s'éteindre avec seulement 5 tours à faire. Aidé d'une remorqueuse il a reprit le départ de la queue et a terminé 7e dans le premier 20 tours. WOOD THE DOMINATOR! Plattsburgh, NY – 2016-07-30 - Plattsburgh's own Robin Wood dominated the Canadian Invasion held at Airborne Park Speedway (Plattsburgh, NY). He first won the heat race and also won in both the 2 x 20-lap Autodrome St-Eustache Limited Late Model segments which allowed him to win the overall combo with the low score of 2. Mascouche's Martin Fauteux finished 2nd overall by finishing 2nd and 4th. Fauteux's race was clean and if it wasn't for a second segment mid-race wiggle he probably would have finished top-3. Jonathan Mayer of Blainville (Quebec, Canada) finished Wood's coat tails in the second segment and scored an overall third position. Mayer who started outside pole in the second segment was inches from winning a first career feature in the LLM. But Wood, who started eight, reeled him in with only a few feet to go in the race. The margin of victory was 3-feet. Mayer, during the only caution of the night, saw his engine shutdown with only five to go in the first segment. Assisted by the push truck he had to restart at the back of the field and salvaged a 4th place finish. Dominates The Field At Iowa Speedway

NEWTON, IOWA (July 29, 2016) - NEWTON, IOWA - Todd Gilliland registered his fourth win of the season, leading 116-of-150 laps on his way to Victory Lane in Friday night's Casey's General Store 150 NASCAR K&N Pro Series combination race at Iowa Speedway.

The 16-year-old NASCAR Next driver from Sherrill's Ford, North Carolina, took the green flag from the second starting position behind NASCAR Next alumnus Kyle Benjamin and swapped the lead with him twice before taking the point from Benjamin heading into the halfway break.

Once the contest restarted, Benjamin grabbed the lead once again on Lap 81, but was quickly tracked down by Gilliland two go-arounds later. Gilliland sped away from Benjamin and the rest of the field, leading the final 68 laps of the race.

Benjamin finished second, followed by Austin Theriault, Collin Cabre and Ryan Partridge.

While Riley Herbst, Justin Haley, Hunter Baize, Gracin Raz and John Holleman IV rounded out the top 10.

In addition to his four wins this season, Gilliland now boasts seven top fives in eight NASCAR K&N Pro Series West starts. His Bill McAnally Racing team has won the last three races at Iowa Speedway.

The Casey's General Store 250 from Iowa Speedway will air on NBCSN Friday, Aug. 5 at 2 p.m. ET.

The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East will be back in action at Watkins Glen International Friday, Aug. 5, while the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West takes the track next at Evergreen Speedway in Monroe, Washington, Saturday, Aug. 13.

Quick in time trials and qualifying, Alex Labbé started 5^th and ran through the field twice on his way to a well deserved 3^rd place overall.

Alex Labbé loves third-mile tracks with high banking, where passing is possible on the high and the low grooves. After qualifying 5^th, the driver from St-Albert (Québec) ran between 5^th and 8^th, despite being slowed down by a slightly loose car. A stop during a caution period on lap 60 corrected the problem. Restarting from the back of the pack, Labbé fought his way back up to 4th place for a restart on lap 130.

A two-car incident on lap 141 sent him back to the pits for repairs, especially to the front suspension. Back on track at the back of the pack once again, Alex got to work in typical fashion, moving from 15^th in lap 154 to 10^th by lap 180. Never easing up, he was up to 6^th by lap 221 and 5^th by lap 230.

The last restart with only a few laps to go saw him move cleanly up to a well deserved 3^rd overall.

After the race, we could feel a mixture of frustration and pride from Labbé and the members of the Jacombs Racing team who has prepared the car so well, only to see some ill luck ruin their shot at a victory. As Labbé was saying "I had the best car on the track on two occasions today: one at the very start of the race and then again after the team fixed the car on last stop, when it was perfect again. I could push as hard as I wanted and always get the better of tight situations on my way back to the front. It also helped that every caution period allowed me to close up to the pack ahead of me, so I could always attack immediately. With that bit of luck today, we got a 3^rd place. A little more luck at Trois-Rivieres should see win the race."

Labbé and the Can-Am/Kappa/Cyclops Gear/Lou's Barbeque No 32 Ford will be back on track for the "Can-Am 50 Laps" race at the legendary Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres on the August 12 and 13 weekend.

The "Velocity Prairie Thunder 250" will be shown on TSN on Saturday, August 6th at 4:30 pm, and on RDS on Saturday, September 3rd at 1:30 pm.

Tagliani termine quatrième lors de la septième étape NASCAR disputée en Saskatchewan

Un Top quatre pour Alex Tagliani mercredi soir en série NASCAR Pinty's à Saskatoon

Montréal, 28 juillet 2016 - Alex Tagliani, qui participait à la seconde et dernière manche de la tournée de l'Ouest canadien de la série NASCAR Pinty's, a terminé au quatrième rang lors du Velocity Prairie Thunder 250 disputé mercredi soir sur la piste ovale d'un tiers de mille du Wyant Group Raceway en Saskatchewan.

Qualifié troisième, Tagliani a bien roulé au début, mais il s'est fait rentrer dedans, mais pas à peu près par la voiture numéro 3 de Jason Hathaway au 75e tour. L'incident à l'entrée du virage 1 a endommagé la voiture de Tagliani et celle de DJ Kennington, mais c'est Tag qui a dû retraiter aux puits pour changer un pneu lors d'une neutralisation au 98e tour. Le pilote originaire de Lachenaie est revenu en piste à la queue du peloton et après l'arrêt obligatoire de la mi-course au 125e tour, il a poursuivi sa remontée.

À la suite d'une relance au 200e tour alors qu'il luttait pour le quatrième rang, Tag et LP Dumoulin sont venus en contact dans le virage 1, mais ils ont poursuivi. Cela n'a pas empêché Tag d'éventuellement occuper le deuxième rang au 221e tour. En fin de course, Labbé est arrivé en catastrophe dans le virage 3 pour défoncer la porte du côté pilote de la Chevrolet EpiPen et lui ravir le troisième rang.

« J'ai l'air de me répéter, mais je suis encore une fois très satisfait de la préparation de la Chevrolet EpiPen/ Riobel/ CanTorque/ Complexe JCP/ Juste du Pin. L'équipe Tagliani Autosport est dans une bonne phase. On ne peut pas se plaindre avec trois victoires, une troisième, une quatrième et un sixième en six courses, de dire Tagliani. Nous occupons le troisième rang avec une course en moins. Je dois continuer à pousser au maximum à chaque course si je veux remporter le championnat.

« Cependant, je n'ai pas aimé la réaction de Jason Hathaway après la course lorsque je lui ai demandé pourquoi il m'avait défoncé durant la course. Sa réponse : 'je n'ai rien à perdre'. Une réplique pitoyable d'un pilote qui semble démontrer un manque de respect envers les autres en piste. Passons à autre chose. Ç'a été une course assez mouvementée, mais sans trop de casse, et j'ai ramené la voiture dans un seul morceau ou presque. Il reste cinq courses à disputer, et nous visons le titre des pilotes, » de conclure Tagliani.

La septième étape de la série NASCAR Pinty's a été remportée par le pilote de 16 ans Cayden Lapcevich. À son 13e départ en série, l'Ontarien originaire de Grimsby est devenu le plus jeune pilote à triompher dans la division canadienne de NASCAR, éclipsant par plus de trois ans le record ayant appartenu depuis 2007 à J. R. Fitzpatrick. Louis-Philippe Dumoulin de Trois-Rivières a terminé deuxième à sept dixième de seconde du vainqueur, suivi d'Alex Labbé de Victoriaville, de Tagliani et d'Andrew Ranger de Roxton Pond.

Dix-neuf pilotes ont pris le départ et 17 ont franchi l'arrivée dont 11 sur le même tour du vainqueur. La course a été neutralisée à huit reprises pour 59 tours.

En 40 départs dans cette série, Tagliani a inscrit cinq victoires, six poles positions et 15 top cinq.

Après sept étapes, Tagliani occupe toujours le troisième rang du classement des pilotes avec 263 points. Andrew Ranger, cinquième en course à Saskatoon, est toujours en tête avec 289 points, mais son avance a été réduite à un point devant Lapcevich, vainqueur de la course. Au championnat des propriétaires, Tagliani Autosport est premier avec 296 points, sept de plus que l'équipe de Tom Kennington.

Les amateurs pourront suivre le déroulement du Velocity Prairie Thunder 250 le samedi 3 septembre sur les ondes de RDS à 13 h 30. La division canadienne de NASCAR prend un temps d'arrêt de 18 jours avant de reprendre les hostilités le 14 août dans les rues de Trois-Rivières à l'occasion de son Grand Prix annuel pour le Can-Am 50 tours.

Montréal, 24 juillet 2016 - Alex Tagliani a inscrit sa troisième victoire de l'année, deuxième en deux semaines, lors du Alberta Has New Energy 300 disputé samedi soir sur la piste ovale d'un quart de mille du Edmonton International Raceway en Alberta. S'élançant de l'extérieur de la deuxième rangée à la suite de l'unique séance de qualification disputée plus tôt en après-midi, le pilote de Lachenaie s'est fait tasser vers le mur dès le départ et il a alors perdu quelques positions avant de remonter le peloton.

Au 60e tour, Tagliani reprend le quatrième rang derrière Kevin Lacroix, qui était parti de la position de tête, LP Dumoulin et le meneur Cayden Lapcevich. Après avoir doublé Lacroix, Tagliani plonge à l'intérieur de Dumoulin, lors de la relance au 86e passage pour prendre le deuxième rang. Deux tours plus tard, il prend les commandes de la course. Le pilote de la couronne nord de Montréal mènera alors le peloton jusqu'à l'arrivée au 300e passage pour visiter le cercle des vainqueurs pour une cimquième fois en série.

« Nous avons disputé une très bonne course, a déclaré le pilote québécois. L'équipe Tagliani Autosport a encore fois fait de l'excellent travail, car la Chevrolet EpiPen/ Riobel/ CanTorque/ Complexe JCP/ Juste du Pin était parfaite. Après un départ mouvementé, j'ai lentement remonté le peloton pour finalement passer en tête au 86e tour. À la suite de la relance de la mi-course, Andrew (Ranger) s'est retrouvé dans mes rétroviseurs. Au cours des 50 tours suivants, il y a eu trois neutralisations et à chaque reprise, nous avons eu de belles bagarres. À un moment donné, j'ai réussi à prendre le large et je n'ai pas été inquiété par la suite.

« Dans le cadre de l'Été de Tag, Edmonton a été le site de la deuxième campagne de sensibilisation aux allergies alimentaires en association avec EpiPen. L'événement a été un franc succès et nous avons recueilli de l'argent et de la nourriture pour notre Collecte d'aliments sans allergènes, » a conclut Tagliani.

Louis-Philippe Dumoulin de Trois-Rivières a terminé deuxième à quatre secondes du vainqueur, suivi de l'Ontarien Cayden Lapcevich. Jamie Krysik de Grande Prairie en Alberta et Mark Dilley de Barrie en Ontario complètent le top cinq. Dix-huit pilotes ont pris le départ et 12 ont franchi l'arrivée dont sept sur le même tour que Tagliani. La course a été neutralisée à neuf reprises pour 74 tours.

Tagliani avait remporté sa première victoire dans la division canadienne de NASCAR à Edmonton en 2008 alors que la course était disputée au Edmonton City Centre Airport. L'an dernier, à sa deuxième visite sur l'ovale d'Edmonton, il avait terminé septième. En 39 départs dans cette série, il a inscrit cinq victoires, six poles positions et 14 top cinq.

Après six étapes de la série NASCAR Pinty's et malgré le fait qu'il ait disputé une course en moins, Tagliani passe du cinquième au troisième rang du classement des pilotes avec 223 points. Andrew Ranger, sixième en course à Edmonton, est toujours en tête avec 249 points, suivi de Lapcevich qui en cumule neuf de moins. Au championnat des propriétaires, Tagliani Autosport est monté en première position avec 256 points, sept de plus que l'équipe Kennington.

Les amateurs pourront suivre le déroulement du Alberta Has New Energy 300 le samedi 27 août sur les ondes de RDS à 14 heures. La division canadienne de NASCAR poursuit son voyage dans l'Ouest canadien pour la course du Wyant Group Raceway à Saskatoon le mercredi 27 juillet.

Les "gros blocs" sont en ville

Les meilleurs pilotes de stock-car sur terre battue de l'Amérique du Nord

seront de passage à l'Autodrome Drummond ce mardi 26 juillet dans le

cadre du championnat "Super DIRTcar big-block modifies series ».

La crème de la crème des pilotes de Modifiés Dirt gros blocs seront de

passage lors de cette traditionnelle visite annuelle. L'an passé ils avaient

offert tout un spectacle, Brett Hearn l'avait emporté devant Matt Sheppard

et Steve Bernard avait causé la surprise sur la 3e marche du podium. Tous

les regards seront sur le 54 cette année pour qu'il améliore son exploit.

D'autres Québécois tenteront de voler la vedette aux stars Américaines

avec des gros blocs. C'est le cas de David Hébert et son bolide ONE, Yan

Bussière, JF Corriveau, Pierre Hébert et j'en passe… Rappelons que Dany

Bilodeau avait terminé 5ème avec son petit bloc l'an passé, donc tout est

possible.

Brett Hearn, Matt Sheppard, Jimmy Phelps, Frank Cozze qui fera un retour

sur la piste de Drummond ainsi que le spectaculaire "Doctor" Danny

Johnson, seront en piste, entre autres. Sheppard domine actuellement le

championnat "Super DIRTcar series" devant Stewart Friesen et Billy

Decker. Je vous le dis les meilleurs de la discipline y seront c'est un

spectacle à ne pas manquer! Si vous n'avez jamais entendu rugir le son

des gros-blocs, et sentir la terre trembler, soyez-y, c'est inoubliable.

En plus du 100 tours "Super DIRTcar série big-block", les amateurs

présents auront la chance d'assister à un manche de la série DIRT

Sportsman, avec 50 tours d'action. Ces derniers nous ont habitués cet

été à des courses hautes en couleurs, remplis de rebondissements. Et les

Lightning Sprint seront aussi du programme pour notre plus grand plaisir.

Donc un show à ne pas manquer, ce MARDI 26 juillet à l'Autodrome

Drummond.

La doyenne des pistes en action au Canada saura vous en mettre plein la

vue. L'Autodrome Drummond "La F1 de la terre battue ».
