De plus, Maxime Plante #79 qui court dans la classe Modifié à sa deuxième année seulement vient chercher sa première victoire chez nous !

Pascal Payeur #338 parti 2ème mène 16 tours au large. Richard Bertrand #08 le tenaille au bas jusqu'à le dépassé au tour 17. Guy Viens #15 parti 5ème le demeure jusqu'au tour 5 où il dépasse Roland Hébert #97 par l'intérieur. Au tour 12, Viens fait le contour extérieur du 29 de Dany Voghel pour la 3ème. Au tour 18, il fait l'intérieur de Payeur pour la deuxième. Enfin, dans les derniers instants de la course, Guy Viens prend le dessus sur Bertrand pour aller chercher sa deuxième victoire consécutive. Dany Voghel parti 3ème y reste jusqu'au dépassement du 48 de Jocelyn Roy au 19ème tour. Steve Chaput #38 part 9ème. Il a déjà gagné 2 positions au tour 6. Chaput entre au top 5 au tour 12. Le 38 perdra ensuite une position au bénéfice de Roy, puis en gagnera une au tour 21 en faisant le tour intérieur du 338.

Maxime Plante #79 parti 2ème se jette premier dès le deuxième tour à l'extérieur de Maxime Michon #75. Au troisième tour, Paul St-Sauveur se jette 2ème en faisant pareil. Ils fileront tous les deux en avant. Maxime Plante #79 ne sera nullement dérangé par le reste du peloton loin derrière alors que St-Sauveur sera dépassé dans le dernier tour par François Bernier #1*. Parti 10ème Bernier #1* atteindra le top 5 en dépassant le 73 de Mathieu Boisvert au tour 21 et le 54 de Steve Bernard le tour suivant. Au tour 27, François sera 3ème après avoir dépassé coup sur coup le 75 de Michon et le 21 de Yan Bussière qui se tenaient au large. David Hébert #ONE part 13ème. Il parvient 5ème seulement à 5 tours de la fin où il fait l'intérieur de Yan. Le tour d'après il fait le même coup à Michon. Yan Bussière #21 se maintiendra au top 5 toute la course à l'extérieur.

Le 90 de Dany Gagné part premier et domine jusqu'au tour 57 où Alex Lajoie #33 le dépasse de l'extérieur. Lajoie mènera le reste de l'épreuve sauf le dernier tour où Martin Pelletier #92 le dépassera dans le droit arrière par l'extérieur. Lajoie donnera tout ce qu'il a, mais le dernier tournant sera décisif pour Pelletier. Le 92 parti 10ème parvient 7ème à la première relance du tour 79. À la seconde relance du même tour, Pelletier devient 5ème, car le 97 de Josianne Plante qui était 4ème et le 18 d'Étienne Cournoyer qui était 6ème abandonnent suite à un contact. Au tour 83, le 92 fait l'intérieur de Guy Ouellette #32 pour la 4ème position. Au tour 87, Pelletier fait l'extérieur du 43 de Martin Hébert pour la 3ème. Pelletier fait définitivement le 90 de Gagné à trois tours de la fin pour la deuxième place. Guy Ouellette #32 part 8ème et gagne une position sur le départ. Ouellette se fera 5ème au tour 31 à l'intérieur du 91 de Matthieu Laramée qui regagne les puits peu après. Guy reculera et reviendra en force au tour 80 se battant pour la 5ème place qu'il cèdera au 12 de Mathieu Bardier. Ouellette reprendra sa position sur Bardier à 7 tours de la fin. Sous le drapeau Ouellette #32 fera l'extérieur du 43 de Martin Hébert pour la 4ème place. Martin Hébert #43 parti 2 ne connaîtra pas un bon départ. Hébert suivra le 32 jusqu'à la relance du tour 39 où il le dépassera. Le 43 fera de même au 8 d'Alex Salvas pour la 4ème, mais Salvas la lui reprendra au tour 50. À la relance du tour du 75ème tour, Hébert dépasse de nouveau Salvas et fait l'intérieur du 3M de Michael Richard le tour suivant pour la 3ème place. Au tour 78, Salvas frappe le mur et ne revient pas alors que Michael rentre pour une crevaison et terminera 11ème. Martin Hébert restera 3ème derrière Lajoie et Gagné jusqu'à l'arrivée de Pelletier et Ouellette à moins de 15 tours de la fin.

Éric Piette dans la voiture de Claude part premier, mais la camionnette #16 d'Alain Béliveau le dépasse par l'intérieur dans le premier tour. Béliveau roule ensuite à l'extérieur premier, mais il se fait contourner par le 15 de Pierre Raymond au bas au cinquième tour. À la relance du tour 6, la camion se lance de nouveau devant Raymond, mais le late-model #15 revient par l'intérieur au tour 7. Au tour 8, Marco Gilbert #44 fait de même au 16 pour la deuxième place. Ils resteront dans cet ordre devant Éric Piette jusqu'à la complétion de l'épreuve. Rémi Beaudet #06 deviendra 5ème lors de l'abandon du #28 de Marcel Hamel au tour 6 et y restera jusqu'à la fin.

ROUGEMONT, Caroline du Nord, 31 juillet 2016 – Le Summertime Showdown 250 presented by the Grilling Store fût une hécatombe pour les pilotes de la sérieCARS Super Late Model alors que seulement 11 voitures sur 23 ont passé le fil d'arrivée. Le jeune prodige de la course automobile Raphaël Lessard de Saint-Joseph-de-Beauce a réussi à tirer son épingle du jeu, malgré un problème technique, en terminant 11e.

S'étant qualifié 4^e pour ce qui fût certainement l'une des courses les plus difficiles de la saison pour tous les pilotes en piste, et malgré sa 11^e position au final, Lessard, pilote de la voiture #99 FRL Express/Toyota/JBLAudio de l'équipe David Gilliland Racing, reste toujours en tête du championnat, quelques points d'avance sur son plus proche rival, Brandon Setzer. Ce dernier a terminé la course en 7^e place.

Ponctuée de drapeaux jaune et rouge, la course de 125 tours a débuté avec 2 heures de retard à cause d'une averse qui s'est abattue alors que les pilotes étaient en tour de chauffe. Raphaël a connu un très bon départ, se plaçant d'office en 3^e position dès le premier tour. La première moitié de course fut des plus palpitante alors que Lessard valsait entre la 3^e et 5^e place. Puis, plusieurs accidents ont donné le ton à cette course qui a été parsemée d'arrêt en piste. De plus, en série CARS, les tours complétés sous drapeaux jaune ne comptent pas au total des tours, ce qui a étiré passablement la soirée.

« La séance de qualification a très bien été, on s'est qualifié en 4^e position. Pour ce qui est de la course, au début l'auto n'allait pas très bien, alors j'ai ajusté ma conduite à la voiture pour être sûr de garder ma position. J'ai trouvé la bonne ligne à utiliser. Au final la voiture était correcte, mais je n'osais pas trop pousser parce que je voulais ménager mes pneus pour la fin de course. À un moment, j'ai même laissé passer mon coéquipier Tanner Thorson, car je savais que ma voiture n'était pas assez compétitive. En réchauffant mes pneus lors d'une des relances, j'ai remarqué que la voiture sautait un petit peu, quelque chose n'allait pas, alors je suis tout de suite rentré aux puits et on s'est rendu compte que c'était un bris du bras de contrôle arrière. À mon retour en piste, j'avais 10 tours de retard sur les autres, mais j'ai tout de même été en mesure de terminer 11^eet de récolter de précieux points pour maintenir ma première place au championnat. Ça fait partie des courses ! »

Son chef d'équipe Seth Smith est d'ailleurs très impressionné par la maturité et par le coup de volant de son jeune pilote : « C'est un excellent pilote de course. C'est dommage qu'il ait eu une malchance ce soir, mais ça arrive et il va en avoir souvent en course! Depuis le début de l'année, il a fait un très bon travail et il progresse très bien. »

La prochaine course de Raphaël dans la série CARS aura lieu le samedi 27 août prochain au Concord Speedway à Concord en Caroline du Nord. Cependant, il prendra le départ de la course Pro Stock Invitation 125 avec la voiture #99 à l'Autodrome Chaudière de Vallée-Jonction ce vendredi 5 août à 19 h 30.

Month End Main Event Clearance Delivers the Goods at Peterborough Speedway

Another month of Peterborough Speedway's 2016 campaign came to an end – Saturday, July 30^th – as the OSCAAR Super Late Models, Modifieds, Midgets and Pro Midgets joined the home track Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun and Jiffy Lube Mini Stock divisions for a thrilling night of action at Canada's Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval.

The first feature race to hit the track was a 20 lapper for the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, with Griffin Powell and Jeremy Kelly leading the pack. Kelly wanted the top spot and pushed Powell for the position, but the former Autumn Colours Classic champion was up for the challenge. A slow car in the second turn brought out the race's only yellow flag with 4 laps on the scoreboard and within a few laps of the restart, defending track champion Ryan Oosterholt had joined the battle at the front of the pack, using the outside line to gain positions. With Powell and Kelly staging their own battle in front of him, Oosterholt moved into a lead he wouldn't give up. Jeremy Kelly was second, with Powell, Jake Kelly and Dave Feeney finishing out the top 5.

The OSCAAR Super Late Models were originally scheduled for a 50 lap main event, but track and series officials revised that plan to a pair of 20 lappers and both were run with quick, military precision. Former Peterborough Speedway regular Kelly Balson took the opener over Glenn Watson, J.R. Fitzpatrick, Tyler Hawn, Roy Passer, Gary Passer and Charlie Gallant. Roy Passer was victorious in round 2, over his son in-law Fitzpatrick, Watson, Balson, Hawn, Gallant and Gary Passer.

With 20 laps on the agenda, the Jiffy Lube Mini Stocks rolled from the staging area for their main event with Tiffany Vanderbelt and Kevin Strutt on the front row. On the drop of the green flag, Strutt took control, with defending track champion Tyler Junkin moving into second before there was a single circuit on the scoreboard. The leaders moved-in on lapped traffic with 9 laps complete, allowing current point leader James Townsend to close ground. Strutt would lead the caution-free feature from start to finish. Junkin would thwart Townsend's charge, with Vanderbelt and Donovan Price completing the top 5.

James Stanley and Wayne McKibbon brought the starting field to the stripe for the 25 lap OSCAAR Midget feature, but it was Owen Elliott who played the starring role, with an advantage of nearly half a track at different stages of the event. Shawn Stanley would close ranks as the leader struggled with lapped traffic, but the eventual outcome was never in doubt. Not even a late yellow flag with 23 laps complete would keep him from the win. Stanley's charge would come-up one position short, with Brian McDonald, McKibbon and Ryan Brown following the lead duo across the line.

Brad Stevenson and Gary McLean would bring the OSCAAR Modified pack to the Great Canadian RV green flag to kick-off their 30 lap feature tilt. Stevenson led the early stages, before surrendering the top spot to McLean just before a yellow flag waved with 17 complete. A.J. Emms would wrestle second spot away from Stevenson on the restart that followed a mid-race red flag, but McLean – the most dominant driver in series history – would add another win to his resume. Cory Horner and John Harper would complete the top 5.

The night's action would conclude with a 15 lapper for the upstart Pro Midget division, as Kelly Summers would take the checkered flag.

Earlier in the show, Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun heats were shared by Ryan Oosterholt with a pair and one each to Brandon and Dave Feeney. James Townsend, Brandon Hannah, Tyler Junkin and Kevin Strutt each took a Jiffy Lube Mini Stock preliminary round. OSCAAR Midget heats went to Owen Elliott with a pair, Shawn Stanley and Wally Wilson. A.J. Emms, Cory Horner, John Harper and Luc Gignac each won an OSCAAR Modified qualifier. Ted Greenwood scored a pair of Pro Midget opening rounds.

Bullring Bullet Points: Several cars were plagued by loose wheels throughout the night. Ray Schroer lost a right rear during a qualifying heat, while fellow 4Fun pilot Mitch Cook suffered the same fate later in the night. In one of the scariest incidents of the evening, OSCAAR Modified rookie Rob DiVenanzo caught his right front on the base of the back stretch wall and flipped; sliding on the car's roof along the track.

Action at the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City continues Saturday, August 6^thwith the return of the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series. The Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car and Ontario Modifieds Racing Series classes will also be in competition; with kid's rides at intermission. Pit gates open at 2:00, with the spectator areas unlocked at 5:00 and the first green flag of the night at 6:00.

Ontario Modifieds Series has a Busy August Stretch at Peterborough Speedway

With just a handful of events remaining on the tour's 2016 schedule, the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series – powered by Torque Builders Inc. is set to begin the annual Hot August Night series at Peterborough Speedway.

The popular, powerful open wheeled group will start the new month of action Saturday, August 6^th as part of a show that will also include the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series. It'll be the division's first of 3 shows over 4 weeks at the venue known as Canada's Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval. After the campaign began with a streak of 4 straight wins by John Baker Jr., 2014 champion Robert Warnes and former Mini Stock standout Alex Lees have scored feature wins. Rick Warnes – who along with Randy Hollingsworth and Bill Pickford make-up the OMRS team of officials – says it's a very exciting time of the year.

"For a while, it looked like the #63 car was going to run away with things, but the championship chase has become quite close over the last couple of shows," said Warnes, who along with Hollingsworth also competes in the series. "There isn't a driver in the starting field that can't make it to the winner's circle, so they're determined to make every position count on the track and in the eventual point standings."

Warnes says that having the recent new faces in victory lane has tightened the ranks throughout the running order. While his early season streak of 4 straight wins still has John Baker Jr. at the top of the standings, but he's starting to feel the others closing-in on his back bumper. There is less than a 75-point gap between 1^st and 5^th. From 1^st to 11^th is a difference of just 120 markers.

"Consistency has long been the key for this group," affirmed Warnes. "Drivers like Brad Stevenson, Ryan Babin/Christopher Mulders and Duane Cinnamon – who have yet to win a main event – could find themselves battling for the title when the season's final checkered flag waves."

Brandt Graham is Heading 'Home' to Peterborough Speedway

For the first few season of his stock car racing career, Brandt Graham was a regular in the Mini Stock division at Canada's Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval. At the end of the 2014 campaign, the 18 year-old second generation speedster from Orono, Ontario announced plans that his team would make the transition to the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series and the youngster has been making headlines ever since.

His 2015 freshman season was comprised of a streak of early top 10 finishes, but it wasn't long before the driver of the #14 machine had scored his first podium-worthy effort – a second place – Saturday, August 8^th at Peterborough Speedway. Brandt Graham says it was extremely rewarding to have such a strong performance on the familiar turf of the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City.

"The team worked hard to get the car ready for every race and that showed on the track," said the driver. "Coming back to Peterborough again is something we've been looking forward to since this year's schedule was announced. Having won the last 2 races – including the $1000 'Boss of the Beach' bonus at Sauble certainly has on us on a roll and we feel like we're capable of winning whenever and wherever we race. I can't wait to hit the track again this weekend."

With Brandt Graham taking his Sportsman Cup Series ride to Peterborough Speedway for the first time in about a year, his crew will spend some extra hours going over the set-up notes that led to the runner-up finish during his rookie campaign. The team will have an added bonus, with details of Craig Graham's performance from the Chase for the Autumn Colours Classic event on July 3^rd to augment their raceday information.

"When it comes to documentation, our crew is one of the best," said Brandt Graham. "They keep track of everything. Dad and my grandfather are always writing things down. We have notations about temperature and weather conditions, spring rates, tire wear and anything else that can apply to how the car will handle. Even though we have a ton of information to work from, we usually start an event with a fresh page and then blend what we learn in practice with details we've brought to the track to help us find our ideal set-up."

To promote the Saturday, August 6^th Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup Series return to Peterborough Speedway, Brandt Graham will be profiled on 'The CHEX Daily' Wednesday, August 3^rd. The segment will air in 4 installments. One during the noon hour news program and 3 more during 'The CHEX Daily' broadcast, between 5:00 and 6:00.

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Billy Lussier and Jason Durgan were the stars of the show on the half-mile Asphalt Track at Devil's Bowl Speedway on Saturday, July 30, splitting twin 25-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series races. Each driver used the outside lane to win in the Bond Auto Parts Sportsman Modified division on Community College of Vermont Night. Other winners included Josh Masterson, Scott FitzGerald, Zach Wood, and Gerald Grant.

Durgan, of Morrisonville, N.Y., scored in the opening Modified race, methodically working from 12^th starting position. Veteran racer Jimmy Ryan of Shoreham, Vt., led the first 19 laps, holding off Joey Roberts for much of the way. Durgan was able to complete a pass for the lead at lap 20 and sailed to the victory – his third in a row. Ryan was the runner-up, followed by Ron Proctor, Roberts, and Vince Quenneville Jr.

In the nightcap, Fair Haven, Vt., racer Lussier had a strong drive on the top. Pole starter Alex Bell led from the start before Lussier charged on the high side, taking over at lap nine. From there he held off a persistent fight from Quenneville to take the second win of his career and of the season. Quenneville finished second, while Durgan recovered from an early tangle to finish third. Bell was a season-best fourth with Proctor fifth.

Josh Masterson of Bristol, Vt., notched his fourth win of the season in the 30-lap Central Vermont Motorcycles Late Model race. With a low handicap from three weeks of subpar results, Masterson started from the pole position. He was never able to shake off a 30-lap challenge from Seth Bridge, though, and the two ran virtually every lap bumper-to-bumper. Robert Bryant Jr. nipped Steve Miller by inches at the finish line for third place, and Todd Stone finished fifth in his first start of the season.

West Rutland, Vt.'s Scott FitzGerald won a hairy 15-lap race for the Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers Renegade class. FitzGerald was crossed up twice in the final five laps after contact from championship rival Jim McKiernan but held onto his racecar and ran to his fourth win of the year. McKiernan left nothing on the table and made a bold move for the win in the final corner but spun his car out of contention. Matt Monaghan survived the scrape to take second, followed by R.J. Germain, Tony Salerno, and McKiernan.

The Portland Glass Mini Stock division continued its recent run as one of the most exciting classes at Devil's Bowl, with a barnburner of a 15-lap feature. Packed together with no less than five other cars, Garrett Given Sr. led the majority of the race before rookie Zach Wood took over late in the going. Wood, of Georgia, Vt., went on to his third win of the season, leading a 1-2-3 sweep for his three-car team. His father, Brett Wood, finished second with teammate Eric Messier third. C.J. LaVair and Brad Bertrand completed the unofficial top five.

All results in all four divisions are currently unofficial pending the results of post-race technical inspection. Any penalties and/or adjustments in finishing position, if necessary, will be announced soon.

Gerald Grant of Addison, Vt., won the annual one-on-one "Street-Legal Spectator Races" event to close out the evening. After easily sweeping his first two matchups in single-lap races, Grant's 2013 Toyota Tundra pickup – with an estimated 600 horsepower – won an exciting two-lap finale against Nate Corcoran, driving a 2011 Honda Civic. Other entries included a Chevrolet Camaro, a BMW 330xi, and a block-long 1964 Cadillac Deville.

Devil's Bowl Speedway's half-mile Asphalt Track is back in action on Saturday, August 6 at 7:00 p.m. as Carrara Masonry & Concrete presents the fifth annual "C.J. Richards Memorial" 67-lap event for the Sportsman Modifieds, along with Late Models, Renegades, Mini Stocks, a 50-lap Enduro Series race, and fireworks. Special general admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors (62+) and teens (13-17), and free for kids 12 and under.

Devil's Bowl Speedway Suffers Eighth Rainout on Sunday

Mid-Season Championships to be rescheduled, date to be named later

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil's Bowl Speedway has postponed its Dirt Track racing program again due to intermittent afternoon rain showers and an uncertain forecast on Sunday, July 31. The double-points Mid-Season Championship event, presented by Whelen Engineering, will be rescheduled for a date to be announced soon.

The weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Sportsman Modifieds, Renegades, and Mini Stocks were on the card, along with the Outlaw Midget Series. Including race events and practice days, Sunday registers as the eighth rainout at the Rutland County facility in 2016.

"There have been multiple periods of rain here at the speedway on Sunday and several forecasts call for more precipitation this evening," Devil's Bowl Speedway promoter Mike Bruno said. "Of course we want to race, but we are not willing to force our race teams and fans to spend their time and money to travel to Devil's Bowl only to get rained on again. It doesn't make good sense from a racer's perspective, or from our business perspective."

WOOD LE CONQUÉRANT! Plattsburgh, NY – 2016-07-30 – Le pilote de Plattsburgh, NY Robin Wood a dominé l'Invasion Canadienne à la piste de Airborne Park Speedway (Plattsburgh, NY). Il a remporté la course de qualification et a remporté les deux épreuves de vingt tours dans la division des Sportsman Autodrome St-Eustache, lui donnant du même coup la victoire au combiné avec un pointage de 2. Le pilote de Mascouche, "gentil homme" Martin Fauteux, a terminé 2e au combiné en terminant 2e et 4e. Les deux segments ont été disputé très proprement par Fauteux et nu été un léger dérapage en mi-course dans le 2e segment il aurait surement terminé dans le top-3. Jonathan Mayer de Blainville (Québec, Canada) a terminé à quelques pouces de Wood dans le 2e segment. D'ailleurs, Mayer qui a parti outside pole, semblait se diriger vers une première victoire en finale dans la division Sportsman. Mais Wood a comblé le déficit, après avoir pris le départ 8e, avec seulement quelques pieds à faire. L'avantage de Wood sur Mayer était de 3 pieds se qui relégua Mayer au 2e rang. Mayer, dans le premier segment, lors du seul drapeau jaune de la soirée a vu son moteur s'éteindre avec seulement 5 tours à faire. Aidé d'une remorqueuse il a reprit le départ de la queue et a terminé 7e dans le premier 20 tours.
