Scarborough Adds to Family Legacy at Devil's Bowl Dirt Track Firecracker
Packed house welcomes first-time winners in all three weekly divisions

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – The Scarborough family's six-decade history of success in Vermont stock car racing picked up another milestone on Monday, July 3, as Joey Scarborough earned his first NASCAR Whelen All-American Series win at The Dirt Track at Devil's Bowl Speedway. A huge "Coca-Cola Firecracker" grandstand crowd also saw Chris Murray, Chris Charbonneau, and Richie Turner go to victory lane during the Independence Day celebration.
Twenty year-old Joey Scarborough from Brandon, Vt. – following in the footsteps of his father, former Devil's Bowl champion Donald Scarborough, and cousin Norm Scarborough, a successful car owner and mechanic in the 1960s and '70s – beat a stellar field of 30 entries in the 35-lap Central Vermont Motorcycles Sportsman Modified feature for the win. The youngster made quick work of things, needing only four laps to move from his fifth-place starting position into the lead.
Scarborough's car was good in both the inside and outside lanes, but he was tested by the best late in the going as former champions Kenny Tremont Jr. and Vince Quenneville Jr. reeled him as the laps clicked away. A green-white-checker restart with two laps to go set up a physical battle between Scarborough and Tremont, which allowed Quenneville to get past Tremont to take the runner-up position.
Tremont, who was visibly disappointed in his result, settled for third place. Chad Miller and opening night King of Dirt Series winner Chad Edwards put on a show for fourth place, which went to Miller. Tim LaDuc started 16th and rebounded from a mid-race crash to finish sixth with Justin Comes nailed down seventh place. Jimmy Ryan came from the last-chance qualifier to start 23rd and finish eighth. Brian Whittemore was ninth and rookie Walter J. Hammond finished 10th in his first dirt start at Devil's Bowl.
Hometown driver Chris Murray of Fair Haven, Vt., was a surprise winner in the 20-lap feature for the Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers Super Stock division. Joey Trudeau had a dominant car for most of the race, but both Murray and Josh Bussino tracked him down from more than a straightaway behind. Murray made his move with two laps to go and took the lead, holding on for his first win in the division.
Trudeau held Bussino off by just a few feet for the runner-up position, while Larry Bristol and Brian Rogers completed the top five. Ronnie Alger was uninjured in a rollover on the opening lap.
Rutland, Vt.'s Chris Charbonneau earned his first-ever victory in the 15-lap feature for the Portland Glass Mini Stock division after an outstanding race. Charbonneau – who finished second three weeks in a row prior to Monday's event – came out on top of a four-car fight for the win by holding off Jason Porter, Robert Garney, and Chris Conroy in that order; Sean Perron was fifth. Wayland Childs walked away uninjured from a vicious, high-flying, four-time flip down the frontstretch.
Richie Turner of Highgate, Vt., became the first driver in 2017 to win on both the 1/2-mile Asphalt Track and the 3/10-mile Dirt Track by taking his second Enduro Series race of the season. Turner, a former Renegade champion at Devil's Bowl, started out back but went to the lead in a hurry and was uncontested for virtually the entire 50-lap distance. Cory Gray finished second after a good battle for position with Ethan White, who finished third. Zach Wood was fourth, one lap behind Turner, with Craig Kirby fifth, two laps back.
Fireworks return to Devil's Bowl Speedway on Saturday, July 8, with the rescheduled Independence Day celebration for the Asphalt Track, which was rained out last weekend. The Mr. Rooter Pro Truck Series and the Enduro Series are both in action, along with double-points Mid-Season Championship events for the weekly NASCAR classes, presented by Brown's Quarried Slate, Brown's Orchard & Farm Stand, and Northstar Fireworks. General admission is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, $5 for teenagers, and free for kids age 12 and under. Racing begins at a special early start time of 6:00 p.m., with fireworks at approximately 9:30 p.m.
The Dirt Track returns to action on Sunday, July 9, at 6:00 p.m. with the second half of the Pro Truck Series doubleheader, plus the "Vince Quenneville Sr. Memorial 38" for Sportsman Modifieds. Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, and Catamount Mini Sprints will also be on the card. General admission is $12 for adults, $10 for seniors, $5 for teenagers, and free for kids age 12 and under.

Ranger Looks To Return To Victory Lane At Home Track
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Andrew Ranger is used to winning in the NASCAR Pinty's Series and although he's currently in the third longest winless streak of his NPS career, he should be excited about returning to Circuit ICAR this Saturday for the Ecko Unlimited 75.
Ranger, who holds the series record for wins with 22, last scored a series win in this event last year – a span of 11 races – and if there is one place he expects to win it's at ICAR.
Ranger was very successful racing the bigger course at Circuit ICAR winning four of the past six races on the 2.113-mile, 14-turn road course on the grounds of Montreal-Mirabel International Airport. After finishing 21st in his first attempt at ICAR in 2011, the Roxton Pond, Quebec native has finished either first or second in five consecutive races with four wins. He's also either started from the pole or on the front row in four straight events.
However, things will be different when he and the rest of the NPS competitors visit this Saturday. Promoters wanted to hold the race at night so the 'short course' will be used this year for the first time as it has lights for night racing. The new course will be 1.1 kilometers in length (.684-miles).
Ranger enters the race fifth in the point standings and will likely face challenges from Kevin Lacroix and Alex Labbé as he goes for his fifth win at the Montreal facility.
Lacroix is the only other driver besides Ranger to win at ICAR since 2011 taking the win away from Ranger in 2015 during his rookie season and he's already won on a road course this season in the opener at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in May.
Labbé enters this race as the points leader and started from the pole in this race last season. Defending series champion Cayden Lapcevich finished eighth in his first start at ICAR last season and won the most recent NPS race at Autodrome Chaudière two weeks ago.

Fast Facts:
The Race: The Ecko Unlimited 75 is the fourth event of the 2016 season for the NASCAR Pinty's Series and the second of five road course events on the schedule. This is the series' seventh all-time visit to Circuit ICAR.
The Procedure: The starting field is 28 cars, including provisionals. The first 23 cars will qualify through NASCAR Road Race (group) qualifying. The remaining five spots will be awarded through the provisional process. The race will be 75 laps covering 51.26 miles (82.5 kilometers).
The Track: Circuit ICAR is located northwest of Montreal, Quebec, on the grounds of Montreal-Mirabel Airport, which has been closed to commercial flights since 2004. The complex has over three kilometers of road circuits with multiple configurations, a quarter-mile drag strip, skid pad, drift park, autocross track and a one-kilometer karting track designed by Jacques Villeneuve.
The Pole Winners: Alex Tagliani was the inaugural event's pole winner in 2011. Alex Labbé set a new track record last season at 94.868 seconds (80.183 mph).
The Race Winners: The first ICAR event saw Robin Buck take the checkered flag and Andrew Ranger was victorious in the next three subsequent races in Mirabel before Kevin Lacroix captured the win in 2015. Ranger returned to Victory Lane last season for his fourth win at the track and 22 overall in the series.
ECKO Unlimited 75 Notes:
Demanding Schedule Ahead: Following a long offseason, and just three events since the season began in mid-May, the NASCAR Pinty's Series schedule will kick into high gear this week. Starting with the Ecko Unlimited 75, the Canadian Tire Series will contest five event in the month of July. Following Circuit ICAR, the series visits Toronto on July 15. Just 11 days later the annual western swing will take the series to Wyant Group Raceway (formerly known as Auto Clearing Motor Speedway) in Saskatoon on July 26 for twin 100-lap races. The series will continue west to Alberta on July 29 for the Luxxur 300 at Edmonton International Raceway .
Second of Five Road Course Races: ICAR will play host to the second of five road-course events for the Pinty's Series in 2016. The season opened at Ontario's Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on May 21, and the series will return there on Sept. 3. The third of five road course races will be contested at Toronto Exhibition Place on July 15 before the series returns Quebec for the annual stop at Trois-Rivieres on Aug. 13.
Parity Rules So Far In 2017: Although Alex Labbé enters as the points leader for the Ecko 75, the field is still wide open for the 2017 NASCAR Pinty's Series championship. For the first time since 2012, the series has featured third different pole and race winners in as many races. Labbé leads Lacroix by just two points in the standings (129-127) with Lapcevich moving up to third after his win last at Autodrome Chaudière.

Barre, Vt. – Washington's Ricky Roberts earned his second career Thunder Road Late Model victory and the Maplewood Triple Crown at the Aubuchon Hardware Holiday Spectacular on Monday, July 3. It was the first Late Model win since 1996 for the veteran driver.
Roberts started on the pole of the 50-lap feature and built a sizeable lead over the pack. However, Northfield's Matt White smacked the frontstretch wall on lap-39 while running third, marking the first of four late-race cautions. The yellows forced Roberts to first fend off Cody Blake and then Bobby Therrien on critical restarts. Roberts kept them and the rest of the field at bay for the win and the $800 Triple Crown bonus from Maplewood Convenience Stores.
Therrien bounced back from some tough recent fortunes to finish second while South Burlington's Trampas Demers came on strong late to take third. Eric Badore and Eric Chase took fourth and fifth, while Blake, Mike Bailey, Darrell Morin, Tyler Cahoon, and Scott Coburn rounded out the top-10.
Rookie Jamon Perry of Hardwick scored his first career Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tiger victory in the 40-lap feature. Perry swung around the outside of fellow rookie Tyler Austin on lap 17, then held off brother Jaden Perry over the second half of the event for the win.
Jaden Parry finished second for the second week in a row while point leader Brendan Moodie of Wolcott surged to third on the final lap when Jason Woodard and Dwayne Lanphear got together. Woodard held on for fourth with Trevor Lyman inheriting fifth after Lanphear was disqualified for a post-race altercation. Mike Billado, Austin, Kevin Dodge, Mike Martin, and Robert Gordon finished sixth through 10th.
Waitsfield's Kevin Streeter earned his second feature win of the season in the 25-lap Allen Lumber Street Stock feature. Streeter grabbed the top spot from early leader Tom Campbell on lap five, then survived a final-lap scramble to the line after Greg Collette, Will Hennequin, and Brandon Lanphear tangled on the backstretch.
Middlesex's Campbell earned a career-best second-place finish with Wolcott's Jamie Davis third. Dean Switser Jr., Matthew Smith, Alan Maynard, Kelsea Woodard, Reilly Lanphear, Gary Mullen, and Cooper Bouchard completed the top-10.
Hinesburg's Garin Frost of Frost Beer Works won the 2nd Annual Vermont Brewer's Cup to earn the title of "Vermont's Fastest Craft Beer Brewer". Richmond's Ryan McKeon of Stone Corral Brewery took second with Warren's Matt Constanza of Lawson's Finest Liquids in third.
Thunder Road will be right back in action this Thursday, July 6 with Premium Mortgage Night. The Thunder Road Late Models, Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, and Allen Lumber Stocks each have a full card of racing with a 7:00pm post time. The annual Marvin Johnson Memorial Street Stock Non-Winners Race is also on the docket. Admission is $12 for adults, $3 for kids ages 6-12, and $25 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids).
