WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Dylan Rabtoy is keeping things interesting at The Asphalt Track at Devil's Bowl Speedway.  The young stock car driver won his second NASCAR Whelen All-American Series race of the season on Community College of Vermont Night on Saturday, July 29, and further tightened an already-close battle for the championship.  Also in the winner's circle during the night were Jarrod Soucy, Cam Gadue, and Stephanie Roberts.

Rabtoy's triumph came in the 30-lap feature race for the Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers Super Stock division.  The 18 year-old Swanton, Vt., native started in third place and ran in second for most of the event, trailing leader R.J. Germain.  As nearly every car in the field bounced off another, Rabtoy reeled in Germain and point leader and defending champion Jim McKiernan caught them both.  Rabtoy stole the lead from Germain with 10 circuits remaining, but McKiernan dogged him the whole way home.

After a long green-flag run, caution periods on laps 26 and 27 gave McKiernan two chances to wrestle the lead away, and he certainly made an exciting effort at it.  Rabtoy anticipated McKiernan's moves, though, and held him off in an electric run to the checkered flag for his second win of the season.

McKiernan settled for second place, and Jared Blake came out ahead in a logjam for third, posting his career-best finish.  Scott FitzGerald grabbed fourth, and Austin McKiernan – Jim's son – came from 14th at the start to run in fifth.  Rookie Kelsea Woodard was an impressive sixth, followed by Tony Salerno, Germain, Brett Wood, and Dave Aiken.  Unofficially, McKiernan's point lead over Rabtoy shrunk to just six points, 452-446.

Jarrod Soucy of Marlboro, Mass., came out on top of a caution-filled 50-lap race for the visiting Northeast Mini Stock Tour.  Soucy's highly-modified Volkswagen Jetta was strong throughout the race, but was tested by Matt Sonnhalter, Emerson Cayer, and Mike Viens for the top spot.  After the yellow flags subsided, Soucy walked away with the checkered flag for his first win of the season on the tour.

Cayer and Viens, each driving Ford Mustangs, made a big charge in the final laps and finished in the runner-up and third-place spots, respectively.  Haywood Herriott finished fourth with Jake Rheaume fifth.  Nick Anderson and Justin King were the last cars on the lead lap, followed by Justin Faford, Kodi Sabins, and Matt Boucher.

Rookie Cam Gadue of Highgate, Vt. – a teammate to Super Stock winner Rabtoy – scored an upset career-first win in the 15-lap feature for the weekly Portland Glass Mini Stock division.  One day after his 18th birthday, Gadue was running well in second place and pressuring leader Andrew FitzGerald in a tight pack of traffic when FitzGerald's car broke on the final lap, causing him to lose momentum.

Gadue was quick to respond and pounced on the lead to take the win.  Point leader and fellow rookie Shawn Moquin threaded the needle as cars scrambled to take the second spot, while FitzGerald muscled his car home in a disappointing third place, one spot ahead of his brother, Roo Forrest.  Garrett Given completed the top five, followed by Johnny Bruno, Kyle Botala, Kaleb Shepard, Samantha Stoddard, and Jeff Murray.

Stephanie Roberts of Fletcher, Vt., became the first two-time winner in the new Ladies Mini Stock division, taking a 10-lap feature in a photo finish.  Lynn Denton led the entire distance and looked poised to become the fifth different winner in as many Ladies Mini Stock races, but Roberts' last-lap run on the outside lane paid off at the finish line.  Denton was credited with second ahead of Maddy Rabtoy, Sami Sargent, and Alayne Bruno.

Devil's Bowl Speedway returns to action on The Dirt Track on Sunday, July 30, as Brown's Quarried Slate and Brown's Orchard & Farm Stand present the popular Street-Legal Spectator Races along with the Sportsman Modifieds, Mini Stocks, the Catamount Mini Sprints, and a two-segment special for the Super Stocks.  General admission is $12.00 for adults, $10.00 for seniors (62+), $5.00 for teenagers (13-17), and free for kids age 12 and under. Gates open at 5:00 p.m., and racing begins at 6:00 p.m.

PLATTSBURGH – Roger Labreche of St. Remi, Quebec collected his first career victory in the Egglefield Ford 358 Modified division at Airborne Park Speedway.

                Labreche took advantage of a good handicap starting position and led every lap of the 30-lap feature event. Mike Perrotte of Plattsburgh was closing in the last couple laps, but ran out of time as Labreche crossed the line with a three-car length advantage. Through the first 15 laps of the race, Labreche was setting the fastest lap times, which allowed him to pull out to a 15-car length advantage. His early race speed set him up in position to have enough to pull off his first win.

                "The car was awesome tonight," Labreche said. "I have to thank the 29 Sportsman team for helping us out tonight."

                Greg Atkins finished in the third spot with Steve Bernier and Chris Raabe completed the top five.

                Another first-time winner found victory lane in the Fidelis Care Sportsman division. Lonnie Rivers of Plattsburgh followed up his most recent second place finish with a first-place finish.

                Rivers led all 25 laps of the feature event, but things got congested on lap-20 when Rivers worked into lap traffic. Mooers driver, Jamy Begor, had two looks underneath in the final 5 laps, but lap cars broke his momentum and he had to settle for second place.

                Adam Gage came home in position number three. Moïse Pagé and Thomas Cook rounded out the top five.

                Brent Jarvis continued his dominance in the Poirier's True Value Renegade division. Jarvis is now a perfect 8 for 8 on the season. Michael Wright and Jimmy Bushey completed the top three.

                Kris Clark collected his fourth win of the season in the Busch Beer Mini-Mod division as he was able to make the winning pass on Mike Whalen off of turn 2. Whalen and Roger LaBounty completed the top three.

                The Strictly Stock "Rookie division" saw Rolland Guay collect his second win of 2017. Jay Sprano finished second in his first time out and Shawn Walker crossed the line in third.

                The Legends were honored during the intermission portion of the racing card. A number of drivers from the beginning of the speedway's history up through the 2000's were honored and treated to a barbeque and a night out at the races.

Barre, Vt. – Boomer Morris started the second half of the 2017 Thunder Road season in a big way with a win in the Times Argus Mid-Season Championships on Thursday, July 27. The hometown driver went wire-to-wire in the 75-lap Late Model feature to capture his first win of the season and the Maplewood Triple Crown.

 

Morris, who entered the event 17th in points after a number of hard wrecks in the first part of the year, started on the pole after winning his heat and the semi-feature. He drove away from the field for most of the event, holding on easily through four mid-race restarts as Montpelier's Kyle Pembroke and Barre's Cody Blake engaged in an extended battle for the second spot.

 

The fifth and final caution flew with seven laps remaining for Matt White's spin just after Vermont Governor's Cup winner Trampas Demers had taken the third spot from Blake. With one more shot at Morris, Pembroke let it all hang out on the restart on the outside, but bounced off the frontstretch wall and slid back in the pack. Morris then held off South Burlington's Demers in the final circuits for his fourth career Late Model victory.

 

Demers took second with defending "King of the Road" Scott Dragon making a late charge for third. Jason Corliss and Blake rounded out the top-five. Bobby Therrien rebounded from an early spin and multiple pit stops to finish sixth and unofficially retain his point lead. Christopher Pelkey, Marcel J. Gravel, Eric Badore, and Ricky Roberts also earned top-10 finishes.

 

Hinesburg's Trevor Lyman captured his third Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tiger win of the season in their 50-lap Mid-Season Championship feature. Aided by a pair of early multi-car accidents, Lyman flew through the field from his ninth starting position, grabbing the lead from Milton's Robert Gordon on lap eight.

 

Lyman was dogged by Morrisville's Dwayne Lanphear for a time, but after a lap-24 incident, a four-way battle four second developed between Lanphear, point leader Brendan Moodie, Jason Woodard, and Gordon, allowing Lyman to pull away. A three-car tangle between Kevin Dodge, Tyler Austin, and Sid Sweet Jr. develop right in front of Lyman with eight laps to go, but the leader was able to avoid the carnage and cruise away on the fifth and final restart for the victory.

 

Woodard made a late move for second while Lanphear nipped Moodie at the line for third. Gordon, Joe Steffen, Mike Billado, Jaden Perry, Jason Pelkey, and Jacob Perry completed the top-10.

 

Hinesburg's Cooper Bouchard earned his first win of the season in the Allen Lumber Street Stock feature. Bouchard got underneath early leader Logan Powers just before the halfway point of the 35-lap feature following the race's only caution and kept Morrisville's Brandon Lanphear at bay for the victory.

 

Essex Jct.'s Matthew Smith finished third followed by Alan Maynard and Kelsea Woodard. Powers, Dean Switser Jr., Reilly Lanphear, Jamie Davis, and Kevin Streeter rounded out the top-10.

 

Thunder Road opens the month of August next Thursday, August 3 with WDEV Radio/Calkins Portable Toilets Night. The Thunder Road Late Models, Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, Allen Lumber Street Stocks, and Burnett Scrap Metals Junkyard Warriors are all on the card along with the annual "Port-a-Potty Grand Prix". Post time is 7:00pm. Admission is $12 for aduts, $3 for kids ages 6-12, and $25 for a family of four (2 adults, 2 kids).

Moment historique, deux québécois sur le podium derrière Sheppard

Déjà en début de soirée, on pouvait rêver de voir un québécois sur le podium, ou même convoiter la victoire. Le promoteur, fracasse les chronos, avec un jolie, 16.842 suivis de près de David Hébert... Donc tout est possible. Même que Steve Bernier annonce ses couleurs en terminant 3e de sa vague qualificative, remporté par Peter Britten, suivi du vainqueur de la veille Matt Sheppard.


20 tours Lightning Sprint

Les Lightning Sprint étaient en piste pour un 20 tours sur une belle piste colllante de début de soirée. En début de course Stéphane St-Laurent doit se méfier de Guillaume Neiderer. Par contre Éric Sundborg est sur une remontée. Ce dernier, travail bien les relances et les retardataires, il est 4e. Par la suite Eric dépasse Neiderer pour la 2e marche du podium, derrière un St-Laurent heureux, qui attendait cette victoire avec impatience.

Slignshot

Beaucoup d'Actions en Slignshot sur le Mini Drome. Les pilotes ne se font pas de cadeaux sur ce mini ovale. Il y a eu du brasse camarades, les luttes s'intensifient et les rivalités aussi, plus que la saison avance.

100 tours Super Dirt Car Series - Modifiés Gros Blocs

Comme je le disais en introduction, tout est possible et nous sommes passé très près, d'une grande première, la victoire d'un québécois en gros blocs. En début de course, Carey Terrance, s'échappe, mais derrière lui les québécois s'amusent entre Steve Bernier, David Hébert et Steve Bernard. Ce dernier ayant explosé son moteur gros bloc, la veille, est allé chercher un autre moteur en Ontario, l'équipe a installé tout ça dans la journée, arrivé en retard à l'Autodrome, il est parti de l'arrière dans les «heat». Bernard à tout de même réussi l'exploit de bien qualifier. Bernier roule en tête, tout comme Bernard brièvement, on peut rêver, mis les Freisen et Sheppard de ce monde grimpent. Victoire de Matt «Superman» Sheppard suivi d'une Steve Bernier émotif et de Steve Bernard qui avait toutes les raisons du monde de remercier son équipe pour ce podium historique. De plus, Bernier à bien faillit remporter sa 100e victoire à l'Autodrome Drummond.

Michael Richard était intouchable lors de la finale de 50 tours. Derrière lui, Martin Pelletier, tente de négocier les retardataires sans trop de mal, pour s'approcher de Richard en plein contrôle. Lueur d'espoir en fin de course pour Pelletier, plusieurs relances prouvent que c'est la soirée Michael Richard. Derrière Pelletier, Bryan Cloutier fait une belle remontée, mais à la porte du podium derrière Dany Gagné , troisième qui accentue son avance au championnat.

Second NASCAR Pinty's Series Win On Western Swing Results In Points Lead

WETASKIWIN, Alberta – If Alex Labbe wins the 2017 NASCAR Pinty's Series championship, the trip to western Canada may prove to be the pivotal point in his season.

Labbe started from the pole position after winning the E3 Spark Plugs Pole Award earlier in the day and led three times for 216 laps en route to the win in the Luxxur 300 at Edmonton International Raceway. It was Labbe's second win in three races on the series' traditional western swing, and gave the St. Albert, Quebec, the points lead in Canada's national stock car championship series.

Labbe's No. 32 Can-Am/Kappa/Cyclops Gear/Lou's BBQ Ford paced the field for 192 of the first 193 laps before Donald Theetge got by. Theetge and Lacroix swapped the lead four time before Labbe regained the top spot on Lap 278 just before the seventh and final caution flag of the race was flown on Lap 289. 

Labbe, who had dropped back as far as fifth at one point, was able to get a good restart and hold on for his fourth win of his career and second in three days.

Cayden Lapcevich scored his third podium finish in as many races in third, with Alex Tagliani and L. P. Dumoulin rounding out the top five.

D.J. Kennington was sixth with Mark Dilley, Anthony Simone, Kevin Lacroix and Adam Martin completing the top 10.

Lacroix was running in the top five when he got together with Lapcevich, and was given a stop-and-go penalty on Lap 268 ending his chances for a win.

After the victory, Labbe now leads by 10 points (346-336) over Lacroix with five races remaining on the schedule. Lapcevich, the defending series champion, trails Labbe by 31 and is seven points ahead of both LP Dumoulin and DK Kennington.

The Luxxur 300 will be televised on TSN on Saturday, Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. ET.

The series will return to action on Sunday, Aug. 13 in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, for the running of the Le 50 Tours Can-Am.

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil's Bowl Speedway has announced a list of changes to the remainder of the 2017 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stock car racing schedule for its 1/2-mile Asphalt Track.  Three divisions will alternate status as the weekly "headline" class for the balance of the season, in order to provide fans and race drivers with the best value for their dollar.

The changes begin this Saturday, July 29, on Community College of Vermont Night.  The high-speed, four-cylinder racecars of the visiting Northeast Mini Stock Tour will be the main attraction, while the Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers Super Stock division will take top billing among the weekly classes with an extra-distance 30-lap feature race.  The Portland Glass Mini Stock and Ladies Mini Stock divisions will also be on the card, along with the popular Thomas Dairy Pit Area Tours at intermission.

General admission pricing has been slashed on Saturday, July 29, to just $8.00 for adults and $6.00 for seniors (age 62+).  Teens age 13-17 are always admitted for only $5.00, and kids 12 get in for free at all events.  Gates open at 5:00 p.m. with the first green flag at 7:00 p.m.

The O'Reilly Auto Parts Sportsman Modified division has been removed from the July 29 program and will see the remainder of its championship schedule scaled back.  The class has seen declining car counts in recent years and the 2017 season has been particularly difficult.  As such, the Sportsman Modified championship schedule will wrap up with races on August 5 and September 2.

"Times are tough for the dirt-style Modifieds on asphalt, and we understand that," Devil's Bowl Speedway promoter Mike Bruno said.  "We're working hard to make sure that our teams still have a place to race, but we also have to protect the interests of our fans, sponsors, and the speedway as a whole.  I appreciate the teams who have supported at the Asphalt Track and we're still looking forward to crowning a champion later this year."

The Sportsman Modifieds will return on Saturday, August 5, for the sixth annual "C.J. Richards Memorial" event with an adjusted format to be announced soon.

Positive growth has been seen in the five-race Driven Transport Late Model Series, and the Late Models will be in action with a 50-lap race on August 12, as well as the annual "3x10" special for the Mini Stocks.  The Super Stocks will run a $500-to-win 50-lap race on August 19, and the Late Models will crown their champion on August 26 as part of the annual Sugar & Spice "Double Stack" Night.  Plans for events in September will be announced soon.

-Autodrome Granby. Ce fut une soirée marquée par l'impatience de revenir aux courses des pilotes à l'Autodrome Granby ce vendredi 21 juillet 2017.

Finale Modifié (75 tours)

Mathieu Boisvert #73JR part 12ème de cette finale. Il se bat pour entrer au top 5 avec Steve Bernier #1* dès le 12ème tour. Au tiers de la course, Boisvert JR est fait 8ème par Mario Clair #22C et Steve Bernard #54. Au tour 27, le 73JR reprend sa place devant Bernard, puis en regagne une autre devant Clair le tour suivant. Mathieu est de nouveau 6ème. À la relance du tour 41, Boisvert Jr fait un 3 de large avec Mathieu Desjardins #1M et Steve Bernier #1*. Boisvert Jr en ressort 4ème. Au tour 44, Hébert va trop au large et perd sa 2ème place. Boisvert fils parvient alors 3ème. À 15 tours de la fin, Mathieu #73JR devance Desjardins pour la deuxième place. Puis au 66ème passage, Boisvert fils dépasse finalement François Bernier #49 pour la pôle.

Finale Sportsman (30 tours)

Deuxième victoire en saison pour Dany Gagné #90 qui fait aussi ses classes en Modifié (mais il n'a pas fini la course en 358 ce soir malheureusement). Martin Hébert #43 part premier aux côtés de Gagné. Une belle bataille s'installera entre eux, mais Gagné aura le dessus sur Hébert. Steve Nadeau #94 les suit d'abord, puis c'est Martin Pelletier #92Pqui prend la relève de la 3ème position. Alex Lajoie #33 fait l'intérieur de Pelletier au tour 7 pour sa place sur le podium. Pelletier n'a pas dit son dernier mot et la lui reprend du tour 16 au tour 18. Lajoie revient 3ème suivi de Félix Murray #95 faisant Pelletier 5ème. C'est ainsi qu'ils termineront la course. Notons les retours de Frédéric Gamache #74 qui a terminé 6ème et d'Yves Léveillée #13 qui a fini 8ème.

Finale Prostock (30 tours)

Le 115 de Stéphane Lemire parti sur la pôle, reste premier toute la course. Le 01 de François Adam parti 5ème se bat pour la 3ème place dès le tour initial contre Stéphane Larivière #11. À la relance du même tour, Adam réussit à se placer 3ème, puis deuxième au 3ème tour en faisant l'intérieur du 15 de Guy Viens. Jusqu'au tour 17, nous avons dans l'ordre : Lemire, Adam, Viens et Rolland Hébert #97. Puis au tour 18, Jocelyn Chicoine #17 dépasse Hébert pour la 4ème place. Le 29 de Dany Voghel fait de même pour la 5ème place au tour 21. À deux tours de la fin, Frédéric Lussier #22 se lance devant Chicoine alors que le reste du top 5 demeure inchangé. Lemire et Adam se tiendront à bonne distance du reste du peloton pendant toute la finale. Notons la 1ère présence dans sa voiture de Jonathan Viens #19, seule recrue chez les Prostocks. Il n'a pas pu finir sa course malencontreusement.

Sport Compact (20 tours)

Pierre-Olivier Breault #20 part premier ayant une main chanceuse à la pige. Personne ne lui prendra sa place de tous les 20 tours. Par contre, il sera d'abord suivi de près par le 19 de Bruno Lafontaine, puis à la relance du tour 6 par la recrue Claude Cournoyer #47. À la même reprise, le 9s de Dannick Sylvestre qui était 4ème depuis le tour 2 dépasse le 19 de Lafontaine pour la 3ème position. À partir du tour 7, Jean-Philippe Guay #09J les suit en cinquième position. Au tour 17, rien ne va plus; plusieurs véhicules sont accidentés et même scénario à la relance. À la troisième reprise, Guay fait l'extérieur du 9s pour la 3ème place. Reno-Karl Quirion #40 était 8ème puis 9ème aux dernières relances connaît un bon départ et se jette 5ème. Notons la performance
