Busy Weekend Set For Oxford Plains Heading Into PASS North Finale

NAPLES, ME (October 12) – With another change of season upon us, so it is for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Super Late Models and PASS Modifieds this Saturday afternoon at Oxford Plains Speedway.  It is part of an even bigger weekend at Oxford Plains that will see the Oxford Acceleration Series and Armageddon Of Destruction on Sundayafternoon.

The championship fight for New England's most prominent Super Late Model championship has come down to, for all intents and purposes, Travis Benjamin and Glen Luce, both former winners of the storied Oxford 250.  While former champions Ben Rowe and DJ Shaw are still mathematically eligible to win another title, it has really come down to Benjamin and Luce.

In recent weeks, Benjamin has been able to stretch his advantage to 25 points over Luce, who has struggled recently at the Oxford 250 and last time out at White Mountain Motorsports Park.  Benjamin claimed the title in 2012 while driving for his family-owned team and will be looking for Pettit Motorsports second championship in the last three years. Given Benjamin's recent performances and his history at Oxford Plains Speedway, the edge may fall to him over Luce this weekend.  But, with a big field of cars expected at Oxford Plains once again, an early problem would bring Luce, Rowe and Shaw all back into play.

The three most recent PASS North Super Late Model winners, Derek Griffith, Garrett Hall, and Oxford 250 winner, Curtis Gerry, will all be among the favorites to challenge the championship contenders on Saturday at Oxford Plains. Former Oxford 250 winners, Mike Rowe and Scott Robbins, will be in the field, along with PASS North regulars Dave Farrington, Jr., Tracy Gordon and Johnny Clark.  Scott McDaniel looks to build on a strong run in the Oxford 250 and will be joined by Maine speedsters Scott Moore, Alan Tardiff, Kirk Thibeau, Ryan Robbins, Kyle Treadwell, Dennis Spencer, Jr., Reid Lanpher, Tim and TJ Brackett, Adam Polvinen and New Hampshire drivers, John Salemi and Dan Winter.

All the action gets under way on Friday afternoon at Oxford Plains Speedway with pit gates opening at 1:30 PM and optional practice for all competing divisions from 3 - 6 PM.  On Saturday, gates open at 7:45 AM, with practice from 9:30 AM to 12:10 PM, and racing for the PASS North Super Late Models, PASS Modifieds, Legends, Street Stocks, and Bandits beginning at 1 PM.

Barre, Vt. – Thunder Road officials announced today that Jason Woodard has been disqualified from his apparent victory in the Lenny's Shoe & Apparel Flying Tiger Mini Milk Bowl held as part of the 55th Vermont Milk Bowl on Saturday, September 30 and Sunday, October 1.

 

As part of post-race technical inspection following the two-segment event, tire samples were taken from Woodard's car and sent to an independent laboratory for further evaluation. Lab testing revealed that Woodard's tire had been illegally altered.

 

In addition to the disqualification, Woodard has been suspended from all competition at Thunder Road until July 19, 2018. Woodard will be allowed on the property during that time, but is forbidden from participating as a driver in any on-track events.

 

Furthermore, Woodard has been placed on probation for the 2018 season and fined $1,500 payable prior to entering the Thunder Road property in 2018. If and when he returns to Thunder Road competition, any tires that Woodard uses will be impounded at the track between events for the duration of the 2018 season.

 

As a result of the disqualification, Dwayne Lanphear has inherited the win in the Flying Tiger Mini Milk Bowl. Mike Martin and Derrick Calkins complete the new podium.

It was a track he'd never seen before and the biggest race of the year. Facts that may have intimidated other drivers, but they faze Gregory Rudzik in the slightest.

 

The invader from Michigan – who won an east-west combination event in September at Grand Bend Speedway – started on the front row next to Wesley Cuthbertson, along with 19 others in the field who were seeking the $1,000 winner's share of the $10,000 Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series total purse payout – Sunday, October 8th – at Peterborough Speedway's Autumn Colours Classic.

 

From the drop of the green flag, Rudzik took control of the 'A' main event. A few yellow flags may have delayed his charge, but couldn't prevent the inevitable. The driver of the #17 machine started to work through cars at the back of the field near the halfway mark and then held-off a late challenge from Cole McFadden to earn a trip to victory lane. Dave Riopelle, Miles Tyson and Parker Traves followed the lead duo across the line. Jamie Riberdy, Paul Pierik, Terry McClelland, Adam Cuthbertson, Chuck Hopkins, Jamie MacArthur, Jeff Drimmie, Jeff Forsey, Rick Eades, Cory Richardson, Joe Sherman, Dawson Drimmie, Wes Cuthbertson, Bryan Batty, Don Arnott and Shawn Murray completed the running order.

 

Cole McFadden had a pair of preliminary round wins. Dave Riopelle, Parker Traves, Adam Cuthbertson and Jamie Riberdy also won EOLS qualifying heats. Chuck Hopkins took the checkered flag in the trophy dash.

 

Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series notebook: Cole Ledson contacted the retaining wall on the outside of the first turn during qualifying and the #14c was sidelined for the day. He was offered a ride in Andrew McFadden's #02 machine, but didn't start the main event…Former Peterborough Speedway 4Fun driver Andrew Massey struggled with engine issues all weekend and didn't make the feature event starting line-up…Even though he wasn't there to defend his 2016 Autumn Colours Classic win, Matt Haufe clinched this year's Eastern Ontario Legends Series title. The 25 year-old from Stittsville was on his way to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway bullring for the U.S. Legends Asphalt Nationals – Friday andSaturday – October 13th and 14th. 

 

The Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends Series awards banquet will be held Friday, November 10th at the Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough, Ontario. Full details can be found on the series web-site and Facebook page.

Thompson, Ct. – American Canadian Tour (ACT) point leader Scott Payea will attempt to close out his record-breaking season by becoming the 2017 tour champion Saturday, October 14 at the 55th Annual Thompson Speedway World Series.

 

Payea became the first ACT Late Model driver ever to win four consecutive tour events earlier this season with victories at Devil's Bowl, Thunder Road, White Mountain and Seekonk Speedway.

 

He has recorded five wins and eight top-5's at the wheel of the Harrison Redi-Mix No.37 for car owner Rick Paya.

 

Dillon Moltz of Waterford, Ct. is Payea's only obstacle to the title. He trails Payea by 37 points. Moltz won the season opener at Lee USA Speedway and was a winner at White Mountain in August in the RB Performance Inc. Chevy No. 5.

 

The 2017 ACT championship would be Payea's first. He finished one point shy of the title in 2008 after Patrick Laperle earned the crown by winning Thunder Road's Milk Bowl on the last day of the season.

 

Several 2017 championships will be decided at the Thompson Sunoco World Series – three-day event that begins qualifying action Friday at 5 p.m. ACT qualifying heats are scheduled for 3:15 p.m. Saturday. The 75-lap ACT feature will follow later Saturday.

LESSARD IMPRESSIONNE AU WINCHESTER 400, PUIS EST CONTRAINT À L'ABANDON

 

WINCHESTER, Indiana, 8 octobre 2017 – Raphaël Lessard a connu une course fantastique avant d'être contraint à l'abandon au 188ème tour après qu'un bris mécanique ait causé une sortie de piste au Winchester 400 dans la Super Série ARCA-CRA, sur le Winchester Speedway dimanche. 

 

Le Beauceron avait connu une très bonne séance de qualification samedi, inscrivant le 8e temps en vue des 400 tours de dimanche. Partant sur le rang extérieur, il s'est tout de suite frayé un chemin parmi le peloton des meneurs. 

 

La Toyota Camry #99 FRL Express/Toyota-TRD/JBL Audio préparée par David Gilliland Racing était très performante depuis le début de la fin de semaine. Par contre, à quelques tours de la mi-course, l'essieu arrière gauche s'est brisé, résultant en une sortie de piste pour Raphaël qui a frappé le mur, sa roue arrière gauche, au grand complet, continuant sa course sur l'ovale. 

 

Avant le moment fatidique, tout laissait présager un éventuel succès pour Lessard. Montant jusqu'à la 4èmeposition, Raphaël s'est imposé comme l'un des pilotes les plus rapides en piste, et comme l'un des favoris pour la victoire. Effectuant de belles batailles contre ses adversaires, Lessard et le peloton des meneurs ont offert aux amateurs un spectacle palpitant avec beaucoup d'échange de positions. 

 

« Je faisais très attention à la voiture, car je savais que la course allait être longue, je prenais mon temps et je ne prenais pas de chances. La voiture n'était pas tout à fait à mon goût, mais on essayait de l'améliorer à chaque arrêt aux puits. En tout, j'ai fait deux arrêts lors desquels on a changé des pneus et mis de l'essence, » explique le pilote du programme de développement de Toyota (TRD). 

 

« Pour ce qui est de l'accident, on ne peut pas contrôler un tel bris, il n'y a malheureusement rien que l'on puisse faire. Par contre, je veux remercier mes parents, mes commanditaires et Toyota qui me supportent à toutes les courses. Et merci à toute l'équipe. Ils ont amélioré la voiture constamment durant le week-end. Il faut garder la tête haute et tourner la page. » 

 

La prochaine course de Raphaël sera le 14 octobre au South-Boston Speedway à South-Boston en Virginie pour le SoBo 250, une course de 125 dans la série CARS.

Une course de 400 tours en demande beaucoup d'une équipe et de son pilote. Stratégie d'arrêt aux puits, gestions des pneus et gestion de la stratégie de course requièrent des nerfs d'acier de la part d'un coureur automobile. Surtout lorsque vous devez faire 400 tours ou près de 200 miles, coude-à-coude avec 30 autres coureurs, comme s'apprête à faire Raphaël Lessard lors de la 46e édition du Winchester 400, cette course mythique du mid-west américain, dimanche après-midi au Winchester Speedway en Indiana.

 

Lessard, le jeune pilote du programme de développement Toyota (TRD), pourra compter sur un nouveau mécanicien en chef en la personne de Joël Martino pour essayer de relancer ses succès. Suite à trois courses écourtées (DNF) pour Lessard, David Gilliland Racing a procédé à des changements au sein de son équipe d'ingénieurs et mécaniciens pour essayer d'enrayer la situation. Lors de sa dernière présence à Winchester le 3 septembre dernier, Raphaël avait réalisé une 3e place lors d'une course de 100 tours. Le jeune Beauceron compte bien capitalisé sur cet élément pour retrouver le succès.

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. (Oct. 5, 2017) – The NASCAR Foundation announced on Thursday the four finalists for its seventh annual Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award Presented by Nationwide, which honors NASCAR fans who are also accomplished volunteers working for children's causes in their communities throughout the United States.

 

The award winner will be determined via an online vote now underway and running through Nov. 29 at 5 p.m. (ET) at NASCAR.com/Award. The award will be presented on Nov. 30 during the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Awards at Wynn Las Vegas. The NASCAR Foundation will donate $100,000 to the charity represented by the award winner and $25,000 to each of the other three finalists' charities. The award honors the memory and the philanthropic legacy of the foundation's late founder, Betty Jane France, who passed away last August.

 

This year's finalists hail from three areas that host NASCAR races (Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Talladega, Alabama). Those finalists include:

 

·         Shannon Goldwater of Scottsdale, Arizona, the founder of Feeding Matters, which furthers advances in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric feed disorders.

·         Julian Maha of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, the founder of KultureCity, an organization seeking to improve – and save – the lives of children with autism, while also educating society about inclusion of children with autism.

·         Tammy Richardson of Las Vegas, representing the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation that provides 25 pediatric programs and services to more than 450 children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases.

·         Chante Gonzalez Vido of Jamul, California, a two-time cancer survivor and head counselor at a camp for young cancer patients that is operated by The Seany Foundation, which strives to bring relief and happiness to children and their families battling cancer.

 

 

"Betty Jane France would be especially proud of this year's finalists," said The NASCAR Foundation Chairman Mike Helton. St-Eustache, Legault remporte l'Enduro 200.

Une soixantaine de pilotes et leurs montures s'affrontaient dimanche dernier lors de la présentation de la première des deux "Fêtes automnales" de l'Autodrome St-Eustache. Réservé aux voitures de 4 cylindres de moins de 120Hp, c'est le jeune, mais non moins expérimenté, Michel Legault #93 qui aura finalement savouré sa première victoire dans ce type d'épreuve. "Vétéran" de quatre saisons en série Challenge-4, et d'une autre en série Nascar Sport-Compacte, c'est à l'âge de 15 ans que ce pilote de Mirabel fait ses débuts lors d'une épreuve d'endurance de l'ASE. Maintenant âgé de 23 ans, Legault aura toutefois dû prendre le départ d'au moins une vingtaine de ces "Enduros", au fil des ans, avant d'en remporter les grands honneurs pour la première fois.

Couru en moins de 90 minutes, et avec seulement cinq arrêts au total, Michel Legault #93, aura pris les commandes tôt après le l'agitation du drapeau vert, pour ne jamais plus en céder les commandes. Un habitué des "Enduros", François "Frank le Rat" Latendresse #60, seul autre compétiteur à avoir complété les 200 tours de l'épreuve (et ce, sans perdre une seule roue) l'aura suivi au fil d'arrivé, alors qu'après les inspections d'usages, ce fut finalement le multiple champion de la série de développement de l'ASE, Jean-Philippe Duguay #31, qui sera monté sur la dernière marche du podium.

Même s'il n'est pas rare de voir des "Pilotes du dimanche" se faufiler parmi les premiers lors d'une épreuve d'enduro, ce ne fut toutefois pas le cas dimanche dernier, puisque le "Top-5" fut complété par les multiples champions, Jason Morand #59, ainsi que Raymond Potvin Jr. #7.

 

Souhaitons maintenant que cet été qui se prolonge, soit encore avec nous pour une autre semaine, alors que l'Autodrome St-Eustache présentera sa dernière activité "Stock-Car" de la présente saison, l'Enduro 250, lundi le 9 octobre prochain, journée de l'Action de grâce. Pour l'occasion, les voitures 4-6 et 8 cylindres seront acceptés, et vous êtes tous invités à venir célébré, soit en tant que pilote d'un jour, soit en tant que spectateurs, afin de célébrer la clôture de cette 53iem saison de l'ASE. Comme le disait un grand sage de l'autodrome un jour, "Ça beau être le temps des pommes, laissez faire l'auto cueillette, des pommes il y en aura plein les rayons du supermarché au retour de l'autodrome".

Ontario's premier auto racing event celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2017 and the Autumn Colours Classic – presented by Lucas Oil Products – at Peterborough Speedway is now just days away. Track owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse says his team is busy dotting i's and crossing t's as they get ready for the Friday, October 6th kick-off of the 3-day motorsports spectacular.

 

"The late nights and early mornings have started already," Josiasse said. "Its almost like preparing for the season opener. Schedules have been put together, reviewed and then put together again. We need to make sure that the concession stands are fully-stocked and that we'll have enough staff members available to get us through the entire weekend of racing. It'll take a lot of work, but this isn't our first kick at the can. There is a great bunch of people working here and I'm sure we'll get everything together."

 

Josiasse says that while the on-track action takes its first green flag Friday night at 6:00, there will be plenty of activity going-on behind the scenes before then. Campers will start arriving on Wednesday, with hauler parking for the Late Model, Pro Late Model, OSCAAR Super Late Model and Modified teams from5:00 'til 8:00 Wednesday night. Other divisions will be permitted on the grounds starting at 3:00 Thursday, with the tech lane open at 6:00 Thursday night.

 

The Autumn Colours Classic – presented by Lucas Oil Products – has the best of the best, with 9 different racing divisions competing over 3 days at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval. Friday's program features the first round of qualifying for the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Thunder Car, OSCAAR Modified, Organics & Glass Late Model and Pro Late Model divisions and concludes with the APC Young Guns races. Pit gates will open at 10:00.

 

"We'll wrap-up the opening night of action with some live music, then get ready to do it all over again with another round of qualifying that kicks-off Saturday afternoon at 3:30," Josiasse continued. "Feature race action gets rolling at 12:30 Sunday, with a 50 lap Thunder Car 'A' main and continues with 7 more classes to finish-out the weekend."

Tremont Wins First NASCAR Vermont State Championship

Tremont Wins First NASCAR Vermont State Championship

Howe named Vermont Rookie of the Year; Quenneville to be honored for track title

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Kenny Tremont Jr. will be one of three stock car drivers from Devil's Bowl Speedway who will be honored for their accomplishments in Charlotte, N.C., in December.  Tremont will be crowned the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series (NWAAS) Vermont State Champion for the first time in his career, and will also be recognized for winning the track championship at The Dirt Track at Devil's Bowl in 2017.

In addition, Randy Howe will be celebrated as the NWAAS Vermont State Rookie of the Year, and Vince Quenneville Jr. will celebrate his second championship at The Asphalt Track at Devil's Bowl.  The drivers will be part of a black-tie gala for NASCAR Home Tracks weekly and touring series competitors at the NASCAR Hall of Fame and Charlotte Convention Center on Friday, December 8.

More than 60 weekly asphalt and dirt tracks across 29 U.S. states and four Canadian provinces make up the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.  Drivers compete for state, provincial, and national championships under a common point system; each driver's 18 best results from January 1 through September 17 count toward the "Division I" titles, while support division drivers use their best 14 races in Divisions II-V for national points.  More than 1,000 drivers compete in each division each year.

Devil's Bowl Speedway operated both its half-mile Asphalt Track and its 3/10-mile Dirt Track under NWAAS sanction in 2017 with Sportsman Modifieds as the designated Division I class.  In spite of running only the 14 NASCAR-sanctioned races held on the Dirt Track, Tremont's performance was enough to give him a 35-point cushion over fellow dirt racer Tim LaDuc and a 37-point edge on two-track driver Vince Quenneville Jr.

West Sand Lake, N.Y., veteran Tremont won six times and earned 12 top-five finishes, gathering 435 points in the NASCAR Vermont State standings and ranking 67th in the NWAAS National Top 500.  Tremont's total point fund winnings for the track and state championships are expected to be well over $7,000.

LaDuc finished second in both the Dirt Track and Vermont State standings and will earn over $4,000 in total point fund money.  Quenneville's Asphalt Track championship, combined with third-place finishes in both the Dirt Track and Vermont State standings, will be worth more than $6,000.

Dirt racer Randy Howe of Lebanon, N.H., finished sixth in the state standings.  As the top-ranked first-year NWAAS Division I license holder, Howe will be recognized in Charlotte as the NASCAR Vermont State Rookie of the Year and will collect a $1,000 check for his efforts.

Asphalt Late Model driver Lee Pulliam of Semora, N.C., won his fourth NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National Championship with 19 wins in 45 starts across eight tracks in the Southeast, and is expected to haul in nearly $35,000.  Californian Trevor Huddleston finished second, followed by Canadians Steve Côté and Gord Shepherd, and Minnesota's Jacob Goede.

Devil's Bowl Speedway's support division drivers also made an impression in the national standings, with five drivers cracking the Top 100 in Division II.  Super Stock racer Scott FitzGerald of West Rutland, Vt., ranked 66th after 21 combined starts on asphalt and dirt, with Jim McKiernan 72nd, Dirt Track champion Chris Murray 84th, and Asphalt Track champion Dylan Rabtoy 99th.

Devil's Bowl Dirt Track Mini Stock champion Chris Charbonneau of Rutland, Vt., had the highest national placement of any Devil's Bowl driver in 2017, finishing 28th in Division III standings.  Andrew FitzGerald finished a single point behind Charbonneau in 29th, while also ranking in the Top 100 were Roo Forrest in 57th, Johnny Bruno in 75th, and Asphalt Track champion Shawn Moquin in 76th.

In addition, the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) awards the Youth Achievement Award each season for the best-performing drivers age 14-17.  West Rutland, Vt.'s Roo Forrest, 17, earned the most points in the category across all divisions on the Asphalt Track at Devil's Bowl, while 14 year-old Johnny Bruno, of Castleton, Vt., took the award for the Dirt Track.  Forrest ranked 29th in the UNOH national standings with Bruno 36th; each driver will win a $500 cash prize and a $500 scholarship to UNOH.
