TORONTO, ON // FEBRUARY 25, 2019 • Some people spend a lifetime trying to get on television. However, it was television that came calling on Bloomingdale, Ontario's Grant Schwartz, a call that ultimately resulted in a two-year stint with the Las Vegas-based WelderUp gang and a role on the Vegas Rat Rods television show.

From Bloomingdale, to Las Vegas, and ultimately back to Elmira, Ontario, Schwartz has returned to his roots – both personally and professionally – and on March 8, 9 & 10, Schwartz will bring his skills, knowledge and stories to the 5th annual Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo. The show takes place at The International Centre, across from Toronto's Pearson Airport.

"Working on the TV show was completely different from anything else I've ever done and it's sure not the way things get done in 'normal life,'" said Schwartz. "A lot of waiting, a lot of tripping over people, fab sequences filmed out of order… 'reality TV' is the farthest thing from reality that you could imagine."

He continued, "But it was a great learning experience. Everyone builds in their own fashion and watching the way those extremely talented people work and seeing the different tricks they use to get to a finished project has translated into some great new ideas and procedures for me in my own business."

Among the television builds that Schwartz had a hand on wereCaterkiller, Gunner's Mate, Dynamite Truck and the re-working of Steve Darnell's personal D-Rod.

Schwartz looks forward to connecting with fellow auto enthusiasts at Motorama.

"I'll be a part of the Hot Rod Discussion Panel on the Rust-Oleum Stage and I plan to be around the new Motorama Mayhem 'rockabilly' room a bunch, in Hall 3. Most of the stuff I've done are Hot Rods; that's where my passion lies, so I'd like to see what else is out there."

Schwartz is an admitted 'hands-on' guy with his fabrication efforts. "All of my work leads to a good foundation that I can pass on. Building the framework, mounting the suspension, hanging the body… that work that gives me the most satisfaction. For wiring, upholstery and painting, I leave that for someone else."

The Schwartz Welding shop floor is currently filled with a wide assortment of projects including a 1928 De Soto Businessman's Coupe, a '69 Econoline van, and an "old T-Bucket," all sitting alongside his almost-completed 1932 Essex Rat Rod, and his "forever ongoing" rebuild of a 1961 Comet.

"All of my builds have one thing in common, they're all drivers. My goal is to make vehicles that are driveable, enjoyable and safe. No 'trailer queens' for me."

Speaking on behalf of Motorama, show co-promoter Greg MacPherson said, "We're all looking forward to having Grant Schwartz be part of Motorama. Over the years, WelderUp owner Steve Darnell has appeared at the show twice and 'Barber' Dave and Twiggy have come, too. WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil's Bowl Speedway has upgraded two of its affiliations to "Official Partner" status for 2019, and the Vermont dirt track's 53^rd season of racing will have a hue of "Hoosier purple" as a result. Hoosier Racing Tire and Elmo's Speed & Supply have been officially welcomed to the track's family of sponsors and marketing partners, with each strengthening its commitment to supporting race teams at Devil's Bowl.

Based in Manchester, Connecticut, Hoosier Tires East, Inc. is the regional Hoosier distributor for the Northeast and has been a Devil's Bowl affiliate for more than a decade, albeit at a handshake-agreement level. Elmo's Speed & Supply of Burnt Hills, New York, began providing race-day support to Devil's Bowl in 2018 as a local Hoosier Tires East satellite dealer and racing parts vendor.

Under the terms of their new agreements for 2019, Hoosier Racing Tire is the "Official Tire of Devil's Bowl Speedway" and Elmo's Speed & Supply is the "Official Parts Supplier of Devil's Bowl Speedway." Hoosier remains the exclusive tire used in the Sportsman Modified, Limited Sportsman, and 500cc Mini Sprint divisions at Devil's Bowl, and all cars in those divisions and the Super Stock and Mini Stock classes will carry Hoosier and Elmo's decals as part of the contingency sponsorship package in 2019.

Both organizations will contribute to the track's season-long point fund, and champions will receive the coveted purple Hoosier jackets at the annual Banquet of Champions.

"I'm grateful for the support from Rob Summers of Hoosier and from the Reckner family at Elmo's," Devil's Bowl promoter Mike Bruno said. "Hoosier tires are on every car in three of our divisions, and I'll bet that just about every racer visited the Elmo's trailer at one time or another last year for parts or advice. Everyone will benefit from this deal – the teams, the track, and the sponsors – and it means a lot to have them on board."

Devil's Bowl Speedway opens on Sunday night, May 19, with a full card of the five weekly divisions and the popular Street-Legal Spectator Races. Competitor registration forms and membership licenses are available at a discounted rate now through March 31, and season passes for both general admission grandstand seating and the pit area are also on sale.

As part of the sponsorship, Quaker State will be a high-profile exhibitor at Motorama, showcasing their brand and full line of motor oil products. The company will also be celebrating its long-running, record-setting relationship with veteran Canadian Stock Car racer, Gary 'The Ironman' Elliott and Canadian Touring Car Championship driver, Bob Attrell.

Both Bob Attrell and Gary Elliott will have a presence in Quaker State's footprint atMotorama. CTCC driver Bob Attrell will have his new vehicle, a i30 N TCR Hyundai race car on display following the vehicle's 2018 FIA World Touring Car Cup championship win secured by Gabriele Tarquini with Hyundai Motorsport.

Elliott will showcase a new paint scheme on his Late Model stock car, featuring a 'retro' look to celebrate his relationship with Quaker State and to honour the crew members who have spent at least one full season on his crew during his time in the sport.

Quaker State first appeared on Gary Elliott's car in 1974, making the 2019 season their 46^thconsecutive year together. According to Elliott, his relationship with Quaker State is the longest continuous driver / corporate sponsor relationship in the history of motorsports.

It's been an amazing career, so far, and Elliott shows no signs of slowing down. He's planning a full season of action in his Late Model and OSCAAR Modified. Entering the 2019 season, he's competed in a stunning 817 consecutive events, not missing a night of racing since June of 1987.

Elliott turns 72 years old this season and jokes, "I might scale things back a bit in the future, when I get older."

Discussing his motivation, Elliott says, "I've lost zero passion for racing. And I'm so lucky that my health is good. And when I think about Quaker State, I'm absolutely honoured to have carried their logo on my car all these years. I love their products and I've always been proud to have the opportunity to represent Quaker State at racetracks and all the appearances we do."

While Gary Elliott's Quaker State race car has been a regular feature at Motorama and other car shows over the decades, this year marks the company's debut as a sponsor / exhibitor at Canada's largest indoor automotive and motorsports show. Canadian Touring Car Championship driver, Bob Attrell, will also be a part of Quaker State's presence at the show. Attrell will be showing off a new vehicle, i30 N TCR Hyundai race car ahead of the 2019 season beginning in May. Attrell has a winning motorsports career with Hyundai Racing Canada and Quaker State, capturing 1^st place in the Canadian Touring Car Championship GT Cup Class in 2018 and 1^st place in the Canadian Touring Car Championship GT Sport Class in 2017.

TORONTO, ON // JANUARY 31, 2019 • One of the most distinctive disciplines of the custom car hobby is the segment related to the Tuner, Import and Modern Modified formats.

A relatively recent addition to the collector car fraternity, these hobbyists and competitors have found a home at theMotorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo. For the fourth consecutive year, Spring Fever: Modified Cars & Culture will showcase the best of the Tuner and Import lifestyle in Hall 4 of Toronto's International Centre. The show takes place March 8, 9 & 10.

"The goal of Spring Fever is to allow show visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in the best that our community has to offer," stated SF4 Director Kristine Hill. "We don't just have cars on display here, we have live music, a great range of Tuner and Modified associated vendors and something that was really popular last year, a tattoo artist."

Another attraction this year will be a demonstration of 'vehicle wrapping;' the modern alternative to a custom paint job.

SF4 will again feature more than 80 vehicles in the 30,000 square foot Hall 4. With the ever-increasing popularity of the show, spots are filling rapidly, and Hill must be choosey when accepting applications.

"We try to maintain a 70:30 ratio of first-time shown vehicles to returning cars. We want to showcase as many different and new cars as we can to our show visitors," continued Hill. "That means we have to pick and chose very carefully. That can mean some hurt feelings when we are forced to deny entry to an applicant, but we want to showcase the very best of the best."

Spring Fever will once again be presenting a host of 'best of…' awards, rewarding quality workmanship, overall presentation and the uniqueness of each vehicle, with special consideration given to fit, function, flow and sense of balance.

"All of our exhibitors get along like family. But for some of the heavy-hitters, such as past champions, things can get a little edgy. When there's money on the line, there's definitely a rise in intensity," revealed Hill. "It's a friendly rivalry, but with the Best of Show car owner going home with $1,000 and the runner-up receiving $500, there is more than just bragging rights on the line."

Noting the difference between Tuner cars, which are performance-oriented vehicles, and the Modifieds that combine both 'show and go,' Hill offers that Motorama show visitors will be treated to a wide assortment of incredible vehicles.

"We will have everything on the floor from traditional Japanese Tuners, to luxury cars, Modified trucks and some really rare custom builds. Everything from sleek and cool to loud and outrageous."

TORONTO, ON // JANUARY 29, 2019 • Celebrating the Hot Rod and Custom Car culture and lifestyle, 'Motorama Mayhem…in the Backroom' is the latest feature in the Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo line up, the 'show within a show' occupying the 30,000 square foot Hall 3 of Toronto's International Centre.

Presented by Zehr Insurance Brokers Ltd., Motorama Mayhem…in the Backroom will showcase traditionally-styled hot rods and custom cars, the vehicles that, according to Mayhem co-ordinator Brandon Roberts, "you would have seen cruising around the streets back in the '60s."

"We have everything from 'T-Buckets' to 'Belly Tankers' to customs; every kind of vehicle, all from the late 1920s right through to the mid-'60s," explained Roberts. "We expect to have upwards of 45 vehicles in the Mayhem display, each of them reflecting the traditional car culture and the people who live it. We're very grateful to Zehr Insurance for their support of this new feature at Motorama and we're excited by the reaction of the community."

Extending well beyond the boundaries of simply being a static vehicle display, Motorama Mayhem…in the Backroom will also encompass all the associated interests of the lifestyle, including music, art and clothing.

Appearing on the Zehr Insurance Stage for all three days of the Motorama show will be DJ Swankenstein, spinning the Rockabilly tunes. A trio of live bands will spell off the DJ on Saturday afternoon and evening, with two Wild Records bands headlining the event. Toronto's own Greasemarks will tee things up for the red-hot Rhythm Shakers. The Los Angeles-based band is making its Canadian debut at Motorama!

Another local Toronto band, The Royal Crowns, have come together and will be the opening act of the evening on the Zehr Insurance Stage.

Added attractions in the Motorama Mayhem hall include pinstripers, various artists showcasing their 'one of a kind' creations, tattoo artists, a barber, plus vintage clothing and collectible vendors.

One highlight of the Motorama Mayhem…in the Backroom that is sure to attract attention from show visitors is the Miss Motorama Pinup Pageant. Hosted by Suzie from Suzie's ('rock your inner pinup') Bombshell Boutique, and featuring celebrity judge Cherry Dollface, the family-friendly Pinup Pageant will celebrate the ladies who live and breathe the pinup culture, all vying for a share of the $1,000 in cash plus other prizes. Miss Motorama will also receive a private 'one on one' hair and makeup session with Cherry Dollface. The Miss Motorama Pinup Pageant is the richest pageant of its kind in Canada.

Contestants will be judged on authenticity, originality and vintage-inspired accuracy of clothing, hair and makeup in line with classic pinup styling, plus poise and personality.

Concluded Roberts, "The Pinup Pageant is just one facet of the Hot Rod and Classic lifestyle that we want to showcase."

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil's Bowl Speedway celebrated its champions and top performers from the 2018 stock car racing season on Saturday, January 26, at the annual Banquet of Champions. A crowd of well over 300 guests honored more than 80 drivers and special award winners during the event, which was held at the Holiday Inn Rutland-Killington in Rutland, Vermont.

The Tremont family of West Sand Lake, New York, received the biggest cheers during the evening; driver Kenny Tremont Jr., was officially crowned for the ninth time in his career as the Devil's Bowl Speedway track champion, while his father and car owner, Ken Tremont Sr., was the recipient of the seventh annual John Bruno Award – the track's highest honor.

Tremont Sr.'s award – given in memory of the late driver and car owner John Bruno – recognized his lifelong commitment to local racing while maintaining high standards of conduct. At age 80, Tremont won his 11^th Devil's Bowl Speedway track championship as a car owner in 2018; along with the titles won with his son driving, he also won championships in 1970 with Joe Messina and in 1977 with Chuck Ely.

Tremont Jr. had a three-win season to capture the Central Vermont Motorcycles Sportsman Modified division championship and the final Vermont State Championship under the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series banner. Tim LaDuc collected runner-up honors ahead of Joey Scarborough, Justin Comes, and Vince Quenneville.

First-year Modified racer Brent Warren of Salisbury, Vermont, collected the championship trophy in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman division. A three-time race winner, Warren defeated Travis Billington, Paolo Pascarella, Joey Roberts, and Adam Piper.

Chris Murray of Fair Haven, Vermont, took his second consecutive title with a dominant, 10-win season in the Super Stock division, topping Scott FitzGerald, Curtis Condon, Lou Gancarz, and Josh Bussino.

Kaleb Shepard of Vergennes, Vermont, won the Portland Glass Mini Stock crown on the strength of five wins and was followed in the standings by Shawn Moquin, Mike Preston, Johnny Bruno, and Craig Kirby.

Cody O'Brien of Springfield, Vermont, was recognized as the youngest champion in Devil's Bowl Speedway's 52-year history, taking the Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprint title at age 13. Austin Chaves, Shawn McPhee, Dakota Green, and Joel Belanger were next in line.

Will Hull of Plainfield, Vermont, was crowned the champion of the five-race Sprint Car series, while Demetrios Drellos of Queensbury, New York, earned the four-race 358 Modified title. Brian Whittemore of Pittsford, Vermont, collected his first career championship in the five-race Central Vermont Motorcycles Challenger Series.

Several special awards were also given during the evening including Rookie of the Year, Sportsmanship, and Most Improved Driver laurels. Marty Kelly III took the rookie title in the Sportsman Modified class with similar honors going to Andrew FitzGerald in the Super Stocks, Craig Kirby in the Mini Stocks, and Shawn McPhee in the 500cc Mini Sprints.

Sportsmanship awards – which are determined by a vote of drivers – went to Billy Lussier (Sportsman Modified), Brent Warren (Limited Sportsman), Scott FitzGerald (Super Stock), Johnny Bruno (Mini Stock), and Samantha Mulready (500cc Mini Sprint).

Most Improved Driver plaques – also determined by vote – were presented to Joey Scarborough (Sportsman Modified), Joey Roberts (Limited Sportsman), Andrew FitzGerald (Super Stock), Lynn Denton (Mini Stock), and Cody O'Brien (500cc Mini Sprint).

Also presented during the evening were two special annual honors; the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad received the Award of Excellence for its commitment to the immediate and future success of Devil's Bowl Speedway, and Chief Scorer Charlotte McGinn was given the Dedication Award for her years of effort at the speedway.

Certificates were presented to many drivers on behalf of O'Reilly Auto Parts, Shiley Fabrication, and Central Vermont Motorcycles, and special plaques were also presented on behalf of NASCAR. Bobco Racing Video and Big Al's Photos provided videography and photography, and Heartbeat Entertainment provided sound and lighting.

Les deux pilotes «Ladou Racing» seront en piste pour la dernière saison de l'ASE

C'est avec une fébrilité plus que certaine que les deux pilotes de l'équipe de course «Ladou Racing» Steve Ladouceur, 43 ans, et son fils Frédérik Ladouceur, 16 ans, tous deux de Mirabel, sont en pleine préparation de leurs voitures de course de la division NASCAR Sport-Compacte en vue de la saison 2019 au terme de laquelle le rideau tombera sur les activités de l'Autodrome St-Eustache après plus d'un demi siècle d'activités.

Pour Frédérik, ce sera sa 2^e saison en piste avec sa Honda #51. Pour ce pilote qui n'avait que 15 ans au début de la saison 2018, cette première saison aura servi à se «faire la main» et apprivoiser la Honda préparée par son paternel. Il faut préciser que cette voiture est le premier véhicule qu'il aura piloté, et ce, bien avant d'obtenir son premier permis de conduire. Saison qui s'est tout de même bien déroulée, la prudence et le respect des autres pilotes était de mot d'ordre pour cette première année de compétition. On ne sera donc pas surpris de retrouver en 2019 un pilote un peu plus agressif, avec plus d'assurance et avec le goût de gagner des courses.

Quand au «boss» de l'équipe, Steve Ladouceur, 2018 aura été l'année de son retour en piste après une absence de quelques années pour se consacrer à ses affaires professionnelles,

Le fait de préparer la voiture de son fils lui aura redonné la piqûre qu'il lui fallait pour acheter une seconde voiture, une de ses anciennes, et effectuer un retour en piste, alors que la saison était déjà amorcée.

Courseur un jour, courseur toujours ! Les résultats ont été plus que concluants ! Le vétéran pilote, cummulant à son dossier rien de moins que 6 championnats à St-Eustache (un record de championnats à St-Eustache qu'il détient avec le pilote Sportsman Richard Beauchamp) s'est même permis de chauffer le derrière des frères Miron, les favoris, et champions de la division NASCAR Sport Compacte en 2018 à St-Eustache. Poser la question, c'est y répondre : le but de Steve Ladouceur en 2019 est de remporter son 7^e championnat en cette dernière saison de l'ASE.

Afin d'aligner toute les planètes en sa faveur, c'est «son» numéro 31 avec lequel il a connu tous ses succès que le vétéran pilote multiple champion arborera à nouveau pour cette dernière.

Ce sera donc deux pilotes à surveiller au cours de cette ultime dernière saison de course à St-Eustache. On souhaite la meilleure des chances à nos deux pilotes, ainsi qu'à tous les autres de cette populaire division NASCAR de l'ASE, et, que le meilleur gagne !!

On sait que la saison 2019 se mettra en branle le 19 mai prochain !

Ontario Modifieds Racing Series Rolls Out an Active Agenda for 2019

There's no better time than the middle of a long, cold Canadian winter to talk about another hot season of action for the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series, powered by Torque Builders Inc. After a year of tight on-track battles – resulting in one of the closest point finishes in tour history – teams are getting ready to crank it up again.

"We turned a lot of heads in 2018 and our drivers are looking to pick-up where they left off," said Randy Hollingsworth, who along with Rick Warnes and Bill Pickford make up the OMRS group of officials. "Since this series began in 2010, the emphasis has been on parity and that has helped create a level playing field at every event."

Hollingsworth prepares and maintains his own equipment, as well as the car of his granddaughter, Willow Barberstock. The Stirling, Ontario area runner – who finished 9^th in last year's standings – points to the group's mission statement of powering and preserving affordable open-wheel modified racing for racers, by racers as the mantra that has kept things together for nearly a decade.

6 of the 8 events on the first draft of this year's schedule will be staged at Peterborough Speedway. The Central Ontario venue has been the tour's 'home track' since the closing of Mosport's oval. The 2 remaining dates will be held at Flamboro Speedway, near Hamilton. Hollingsworth says teams are anxious to get back on the track.

"As we saw last year, just a couple of spots in the finishing order of a feature event could make a big difference in the championship standings," according to Hollingsworth. "Our bunch is always working hard to get their equipment ready for each race and give the fans a great show at every event."

Over Half a Century of Saturday Night Thrills at Peterborough Speedway

Short track stock car racing is alive and well at Canada's Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval.

Opening night is still more than 6 months away, but the Peterborough Speedway promotional team is already hard at work putting together plans for the upcoming schedule. Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says that this is a very busy time of year.

"Heading into our 52^nd consecutive season of operation, we want to make sure everything is ready when our drivers and teams roll through the pit gates," Josiasse said. "Everyone puts their off-season focus toward getting things prepared to take the years first green flag and we have to make sure that our effort matches theirs. In 2018, we had a great turnout in each of our regular divisions and all indications point to the same thing happening when we kick-off the new schedule."

In addition to the 5 weekly hometown classes, Josiasse says the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road is expecting to see the same touring series – including the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup, Ontario Pro Challenge, Ontario Outlaw Super Late Models, Can-Am TQ Midgets and more – back on the 2019 agenda. Fans can also expect to see regular appearances by the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series and the Eastern Ontario Legends when the new season gets rolling on the Victoria Day holiday weekend.

"Our main goal has always been to give the people what they want," said J.P. Josiasse. "The comments our staff gets at the track and through our Facebook and Twitter social media platforms helps us put together a winning schedule. With that in mind, we've decided to add the popular OSCAAR Hot Rod Series to the line-up for the 27^th running of the Autumn Colours Classic and will likely be announcing even more changes as the 2019 season opener gets closer."
