Stage 1 Recap (Laps 1-80):

● Aric Almirola started 14th and finished 12th.

● Almirola pitted during the lap-25 competition caution for four tires, fuel and air pressure and chassis adjustments, and gained three spots on pit road.

● He noted that the Smithfield Ford had trouble turning after the adjustments were made.

● He pitted the No. 10 Ford at the end of the stage for four tires, fuel and adjustments to correct the handling issues.

 

Stage 2 Recap (Laps 81-160):

● Started 12th and finished 11th.

● Almirola aggressively drove to the middle of three cars and advanced back to the top-10.

● He pitted under green on lap 120 from 11th for four fresh tires, fuel and adjustments. He said his Smithfield Ford's front tires needed more grip.

● Almirola was scored 11th after pit stops cycled through.

● He pitted at the conclusion of the stage for four tires, fuel and more adjustments.

 

Stage 3 Recap (Laps 161-267):

● Started 11th and finished 21st.

● Almirola pitted on lap 177 under caution for four fresh tires and fuel.

● He restarted 21st and quickly made his way back to the top-15.

● Almirola radioed to crew chief Mike Bugarewicz that he was contacted by the No. 6 car under caution.

● After noting tight-handling conditions, he cut a tire on lap 208, then pitted for four tires and damage repair.

● He returned to pit road two laps down in 28th before the caution was called on lap 221, where Almirola gained a lap back.

● Almirola returned back on the lead lap on lap 262.

● During the final restart, Almirola avoided a multicar accident and gained multiple spots before crossing the finish line.

 

Notes:

● Joey Logano won the Las Vegas 400 to score his 24th career NASCAR Cup Series victory, his first of the season and his second at Las Vegas. He beat second-place Matt DiBenedetto as the race ended under caution.

● This was Ford's series-leading 13th NASCAR Cup Series victory at Las Vegas and its 687th all-time NASCAR Cup Series win.

● There were nine caution periods for a total of 37 laps.

● Twenty-four of the 38 drivers in the Las Vegas 400 finished on the lead lap.

● Ryan Blaney leaves Las Vegas as the championship leader with a three-point advantage over second-place Logano.

 

Aric Almirola, driver of the No. 10 Smithfield Ford Mustang for Stewart-Haas Racing:

"We had a car capable of running in and around the top-10 today. We tried a lot of adjustments to hang in there, then the No. 6 car hit us under caution and we cut a tire with about 60 to go that put us a few laps down. That's not the way we wanted to start the West Coast swing, but we'll head to Fontana with our heads held high and brush it off."

CAR CLUB AT THIS YEAR'S TORONTO MOTORAMA SHOW

TORONTO, ON // FEBRUARY 18, 2020 • In the lead-up to the Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo, each year, car show co-ordinator Gary Challice and the Motorama team discuss and determine which car club will be recognized as the 'Featured Club' at the show.

"We consider all of the established clubs; the ones that have a reputation for supporting the car club culture," explained Challice. "We also look at special anniversaries, the ages of the clubs and their contributions to their communities. And based on all the factors, we decide which one will be the Featured Club at Motorama."

For this year's show, which takes place March 13, 14 & 15 at Toronto's International Centre, the Brantford, Ontario-based Brantford Piston Pushers will enjoy the designation of being the 2020 Featured Club at Motorama.

Reacting to the news, the Brantford Piston Pushers spokesman Gary Graham said, "The Brantford Piston Pushers brag that we are the oldest, fastest and biggest car club in Canada. We were registered in 1954 and have been based out of Brantford ever since. Present-day, we are primarily a social club with 125 members."

Founded in 1954, the Piston Pushers have had a profound effect on the Southern Ontario drag racing scene, playing an instrumental role in the opening and running of the first drag strip in Canada, Kohler Dragway, now known as Cayuga Dragway at Toronto Motorsports Park.

Additionally, the club's founding president, Don Douglas (who remains a member to this day) and founding member Larry Rook, purchased the first timing tree in Canada. The club's members were also among the first to build and race with flathead Ford power. Over the years, club members held numerous records at Kohler Dragway.

"This year, we're celebrating the second decade of our annual 'Remember When' cruise, a mobile car show we hold in Brantford every June."

At Motorama, the Piston Pushers will have 16 vehicles on display in their unique, interactive, U-shaped display, including cars from past members like Ron Lush's 1940 Plymouth Coupe, Tim Turvey's Hemi-powered 1929 Model A and Charlie Haviland's 1923 Bucket T Altered.

Additionally, the club will have its 1949 panel truck and custom trailer in the centre display, which features a 3/4-scale version of the club's old clubhouse sign. Adjacent will be a pair of Chevys (a 1955 and a 1957), lined up 'side-by-side' in front of the original Kohler Dragway 'Christmas Tree.' The booth will also feature a 1957 GMC pickup truck sporting in excess of $120,000 worth of modifications.

"The theme of our display is 'Memory Lane.' We're quietly celebrating our 65th anniversary; our display will be dedicated to past members who have come and gone," continued Graham.

The Brantford Piston Pushers have built a strong reputation for supporting the local community, working with Brantford-area charities like the Lansdowne Children's Charity and the Brantford Food Bank. The club also puts on an annual Christmas basket program for local people in need.

"The more money we have, the more we give," added Graham.

Although the Brantford Piston Pushers will be feted as this year's featured car club, they will not be alone at the show as nearly a dozen other clubs will be represented throughout the show.

Among the other car clubs expected to be on hand in Hall 2 are (in alphabetical order): the Brampton Street Rods, Corvette Club of Durham, Durham Region Mustang Club, Highway 11 Cruisers, Ontario Camaro Club, Ontario Vintage Mopar and the Turbo Buicks of Southern Ontario in Hall 2. In the Hall 4 Mayhem room, The Infidels, The Lead Kings, The SOBs, The Hellions and The Don River River Rats will have vehicles in club displays.

"We're very happy to welcome the Brantford Piston Pushers as the Featured Car Club at the 2020 Toronto Motorama show," said Gary Challice. "We're also very excited about the other clubs that are coming to the show. Showgoers can expect to see great variety and amazing equipment. We're also looking forward to seeing some neat club displays."

TORONTO, ON // FEBRUARY 20, 2020 • The sixth annual Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo will feature a unique presentation by acclaimed automotive artists Ron Gibbs of Burlington, Ontario, Danno Drouin of Brantford, Ontario and Guelph, Ontario's Rollie Guertin. The trio will be combining their skills to create three distinct panels – in real-time – at Motorama. The show takes place on March 13, 14 & 15 at the International Centre, across from Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

Dubbed, 'Panel Jam,' Gibbs, Drouin and Guertin will be pinstriping three black canvases on Saturday and Sunday in Gibbs' booth near the Pinty's Stage. Drouin and Guertin will also have their own individual booths featuring their award-winning artwork in the 'Mayhem' room (Hall 4).



"For the past 20 years, I've done demonstrations in airbrush and pinstriping, like this, at the SEMA Show for companies like House of Kolor and Sherwin-Williams," said Gibbs. "And I've known Danno and Rollie for years; they're friends of mine and are well-known as two of the best pinstripers in Canada."

Additionally, Gibbs will be producing a painting of the show's featured celebrity guest, Chip Foose, which will be auctioned off for charity on the Pinty's Stage just prior to the announcement of the Motorama Grand Champion on Sunday afternoon.

"That's a pretty big deal for me," said Gibbs. "I've known Chip for a long time and produced artwork for him over the years. I'll begin painting it about a week before Motorama and then finish it at the show. It will feature Chip and some of his most iconic cars."

Gibbs is an airbrush artist, custom painter and proud Canadian with more than 45 years of experience and is recognized as one of the top airbrush artists and pinstripers in the world.


"I've always been an artist and car guy at heart, and I've transitioned from working primarily on cars to also doing automotive-based artwork as well," said Gibbs, who acquired the moniker 'CdnRatFink' many years ago when an author of a car magazine story compared him to Ed 'Big Daddy Roth,' the legendary automotive artist, custom car builder and creator of the 'Rat Fink' character known throughout the automotive world.

Gibbs' custom paint work has won awards at some of the most prestigious custom car, truck and motorcycle shows in Canada and the United States, and has custom painted more than 25 vehicles for companies and manufacturers like Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, Mercedes and Iwata, many of which have been featured at the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada. His work has been seen on the covers of many automotive, truck, motorcycle and art enthusiast magazines.



In 2018, Gibbs earned the prestigious 'Painter Award' at SEMA, which is considered one of the highest honours in automotive custom painting. He was also handpicked by Asset Iwata to be part of the 'Air Affair Group' in Salt Lake City, Utah, consisting of 12 of the best airbrush artists and custom painters in the world.

"That was a real honour for me as I was the only Canadian in the group," said Gibbs. "The largest airbrush / custom paint gallery in the world is in Salt Lake City at Asset Iwata and it's amazing to have my work displayed in such a world-renowned gallery."

           Additionally, Gibbs' work has appeared on television shows like Counting Cars, Bitchin' Rides, Iron Resurrection, Chop Cut Rebuild, Dream Car Garage, Holmes on Homes and The Rick Mercer Report. On the motorsport side, Gibbs has produced artwork for the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame, and NASCAR teams like Joe Gibbs Racing, Roush Racing and Hendricks Motorsports.

Berthierville, February 12, 2020 – Marc-Antoine Camirand will be heading to his 25th racing season as he renews his winning partnership with GM Paillé, #1 in Canada. Camirand will compete full-time in 2020 in the NASCAR Pinty's series, at the wheel of the n°22 GM Paillé Chevrolet Camaro.

"From the beginning in 1996 and throughout my career, racing has been a family thing. I started alongside my father in Formula Ford at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, and today, I'm privileged that GM Paillé has included me in their great family. We are still sharing the same passion that unites us, almost 25 years later," said the driver from Saint-Léonard-d'Aston, Qc.

Camirand will run his fourth full-time NASCAR Pinty's season, a third with the support of GM Paillé. The association between Camirand and the #1 GM dealer in Canada started at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières in 2016 and has continued for four road-course races in 2017 and full-time seasons since.

"I cannot say how thankful I am to have the support of a partner as engaged and passionate as GM Paillé. Motorsport has always been an unpredictable business, and I have rarely had the assurance, this early in the off-season, that I would run a full-time season," Camirand added. 

Once again this year, Camirand will be at the wheel of a Chevrolet Camaro prepared by 22 Racing team, owned by four-time NASCAR Pinty's Champion Scott Steckly.

"I feel that everybody is highly motivated, and it's still only February! I'm also happy to have Randy Steckly back as my crew chief, as he was part of my success in 2017 and 2018. After a difficult 2019 season, I am sure that the winning conditions will be in place for us to get wins and podium finishes," Camirand concluded.

GM Paillé, who celebrated its 55th anniversary last year, continues to share this common passion for racing alongside Camirand.

NASCAR Honors Founding Family's Legacy with New Championship Trophy

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (February 14, 2020) – To honor the legacy of the sport's founding family, NASCAR today announced that the Bill France Cup will be awarded to the champion of the NASCAR Cup Series, beginning in 2020.

 

The renamed trophy pays tribute to Bill France Sr., who founded NASCAR in 1947, as well as his son, Bill France Jr., who elevated the sport to a national phenomenon as the sanctioning body's chief executive from 1972 to 2003.

 

"As the sport ushers in a new era, it's fitting that my father's name is associated with the highest mark of excellence in our sport," said Jim France, NASCAR Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "My father and brother's vision for NASCAR has been realized, many times over, as millions of fans follow and engage each week with the best racing in the world."

 

The Bill France Cup, created by Jostens, will maintain the size and shape of last year's championship trophy and will feature outlines of the 24 NASCAR Cup Series racetracks that comprise the 2020 season schedule. The trophy design will be updated as the race schedule evolves, and new tracks are introduced to NASCAR Cup Series competition.

 

Bill France Sr. spearheaded NASCAR from its beginning and directed it to its current role as the world's largest stock car racing organization. Born in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 26, 1909, he came to Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1934. In 1947, France became the driving force behind the establishment of the National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. The new organization was called NASCAR, resulting from a famous meeting at the Streamline Hotel on A1A in Daytona Beach – a structure that stands to this day as a racing landmark.

 

Things moved quickly in the 1950s and 1960s for NASCAR. As the sanctioning body's first president, France built two superspeedways that came to personify the sport – 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway and 2.66-mile Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway. Bill Sr. passed away in 1992 at the age of 82.

 

Bill France Jr. is remembered as the man who followed his visionary father at NASCAR's helm, in the process becoming a visionary himself as he guided NASCAR to unprecedented levels of popularity. France, who passed away in June 2007 at the age of 74, grew up in the formative years of stock car racing, living and learning every detail of the sport from his own experiences, and those of his father.

 

Bill Jr. became NASCAR's president in January 1972, replacing his father and becoming only the second president of the world's largest auto racing sanctioning body. His emergence coincided with the sport's emergence, and its eventual ascent to become America's No. 1 form of motorsports.

BARBERVILLE, FL — Feb. 4, 2020 — The 49th DIRTcar Nationals presented by Bozard Ford kicked off Tuesday night at Volusia Speedway Park with Michael Long leading the ironmen of the event — DIRTcar UMP Modifieds, which race the first of seven nights over the 12 straight days of racing. The famed half-mile, high-banked dirt oval west of Daytona Beach featured the busiest division in Florida during February, and perhaps the most competitive of all. Over the next week, the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds will race in at least 10 total Features in the chase for the 2020 DIRTcar Nationals Big Gator Trophy.

Opening night featured a stellar field of 76 DIRTcar UMP Modifieds and the results were a mirror image of a year ago as Long took the lead at the drop of the green flag from fellow Prairie State standout, Will Krup. After a brief battle, Long would get away and in the end the Fowler, IL driver would hold off a strong challenge from Kyle Strickler before getting away from him in the waning stages and cruising to the DIRTcar Nationals opening night victory for the second year in a row.

"We just can't do this without everyone that helps us out. If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't be able to compete against some of the best equipment out there. But we've got some good stuff too and it showed tonight," remarked the 38-year-old driver of the #18 Discount Tire & Service / Rage Chassis entry. "I seen that #8 go up on the scoreboard and that made me nervous a little bit. Once I got going, I was good and as long as we didn't have any more restarts, I knew we'd be ok. I know the wife and kids are watching DirtVision at home and they're probably going crazy right now. Hopefully we can pick up a few more wins this week for them."

Krup and Long led the stellar 28-car field to Chief Starter Dave Farney's green flag, and Long edged Krup going into the first corner to take the early lead. As Strickler, who started eighth, began his charge to the front, Long was pulling away from Krup and the rest of the field. A series of cautions flew, first on lap six, then three straight all on lap seven, with the most serious involving perennial contender, David Stremme who spun and collected NASCAR Xfinity Series driver, Justin Haley as well as Austin Holcombe, ended all three of their nights'.

On what turned out to be the final restart, Strickler, who had worked his way up to second, was challenging Long for the race lead. But Long was up to the task and would slowly pull away again, this time from Strickler as well as the remainder of the field. Long would go on to lead the entire distance en route to his second career DIRTcar Nationals victory.

Strickler settled for second over Ryan Cripe who scored a DIRTcar Nationals career-high third place effort to complete the podium finishers. Four-time defending DIRTcar Nationals Champion Nick Hoffman was fourth over Zeke McKenzie, who won one of the four Last Chance Showdowns just to make the show, started scratch on the field in 28th and clawed his way through the field to complete the top five. Curt Spalding was sixth as Donnie Moran was seventh. Brian Ruhlman, who also won a Last Chance Showdown and started 25th and finished eighth as Kenny Wallace and 14-year-old Drake Troutman, who started 20th, completed the top 10.

Strickler started the night by posting quick time over the 76-car field with a 17.975-second lap at 100.139 mph, then won won his Heat Race. Spalding, Cripe, Terry Phillips, Stremme, Krup, Long and Todd Sherman also won Heats. Brenden Rassel and Tony Anderson won the C-Mains while Ruhlman, Christian Thomas, Michael Altobelli and McKenzie all scored Last Chance Showdown victories.

Wednesday, Feb. 5 is Night Two for the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds as the teams return for another $1,000 payday on same card as the Ollie's Bargain Outlet All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprint Cars presented by Mobil 1.

The partnership is Penn National's first with a professional sports league and will center around a brand new, free-to-play, mobile game named NASCAR Finish Line, which offers users the chance to win a $50,000 jackpot every race.

 

In addition, NASCAR and Penn National have extended their long-standing race title sponsorship for the "Hollywood Casino 400" at Kansas Speedway through 2026, deepening the connection between the two entertainment companies. The partnership furthers Hollywood Casino's position as the Official Casino Partner of Kansas Speedway and the race title sponsor of the NASCAR Cup SeriesTM race that is scheduled for October 18, 2020.

The free-to-play NASCAR Finish Line mobile game will be available ahead of the DAYTONA 500 across iOS and Android phones and tablets and can be downloaded on the App Store and Google Play store. Players can win the $50,000 jackpot by accurately predicting the race winner and the highest finishers across six different groupings of six drivers.

Nick Hoffman Makes It Three Winners in Three Nights at the 49th DIRTcar Nationals

BARBERVILLE, FL — Feb. 6, 2020 — The 49th DIRTcar Nationals presented by Bozard Ford rolled on at Volusia Speedway Park (FL) as the famed, half-mile, high-banked dirt oval hosted the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds on their third of seven nights of action. Four-Time defending DIRTcar Nationals Champion Nick Hoffman took the lead away from pole-sitter Mike McKinney on lap eight and fought off a late charge from his fellow Prairie State driver to score his first feature win of the 2020 DIRTcar Nationals and 16th of his career.

"The car felt really good tonight, but I was a little worried about where we drew in the redraw (sixth), especially with all the good cars in front of me. But early on I found a good lane of rubber early there and went right to the front," explained the 27-year-old Belleville, IL driver who now calls Mooresville, NC home. "Mike (McKinney) caught a lapper, and I was able to get the lead. Then I just tried to stay out in front of everything behind me. This feels pretty good heading into the rest of the week," he added while standing next to his #2 Fox Shox / Elite Chassis machine surrounding by his happy crew.

McKinney and David Stremme brought a stout 32-car field to Chief Starter David Farney's green flag. and McKinney rocketed out to the early race lead as Hoffman, who started sixth, quickly worked his way to third and trailed the two front row starters. After Hoffman slipped past Stremme on lap six, he set his sights on McKinney, and the battle was on for the race lead.

Hoffman got around the racelong leader and started to pull away from the rest of the field. A series of cautions bunched up the field and this allowed McKinney a second chance to get back by Hoffman. Up to the challenge, Hoffman fought off consistent challenges from McKinney to score the win and complete the "Hat Trick" after winning the Fast Qualifier Award and his Heat Race. As a bonus, he also took over the points lead. Last year, Hoffman picked up his first and only Feature win and took over the points lead on the third night of DIRTcar Nationals as well on his way to his fourth consecutive title.

McKinney settled for second for his best finish of the week, while Brian Ruhlman bagged his best finish of the week to complete the podium. NASCAR Xfinity Series star Justin Allgaier also garnered his best finish of the three races so far with a fourth, as Jason Hughes finished off the top five, also his best finish . Zeke McKenzie continues to impress with a solid sixth place effort, and Kenny Wallace, Michael Altobelli, Taylor Cook and 2008 DIRTcar UMP Modified National Champion Jeff Leka completed the top 10.

Hoffman's quick time was an 18.194 (98.934mph) over the impressive 81-car field, and he won his Heat. Allgaier, Tyler Nicely, McKinney, Kyle Strickler, Stremme, Will Krup and Ruhlman also grabbed Heat Race checkers, while Terry Phillips, Jason Gross, Brian Shaw and Curt Spalding all collected Last Chance Showdown wins.

One of the most popular nights of the DIRTcar Nationals for the DIRTcar UMP Modifieds is on Friday, February 7 and serves as Night 4 of 12 overall and fourth of seven nights for the Mods. It's the Night of Features; as a Thank You to all the drivers and teams that have supported the DIRTcar Nationals, every DIRTcar UMP Modified team on the property will be divided into features with a maximum of 25 cars and a minimum of 15 in each feature.
