Stage 1 Recap (Laps 1-80):

● Daniel Suárez started 35th, finished 33rd.

● With five cars ahead of him on the grid having to go to the rear, Suárez took the green flag from 30th. Less than halfway through the first lap, he reported the No. 96 Toyota Certified Used Vehicles Camry lost power. He came to a stop on the apron just short of turn three, bringing out the caution flag.

● Safety crews pushed Suárez back to his pit box during the caution. There the team was able to reset the electronics and successfully refire the engine. Suárez rejoined the race in 38th place, two laps down.

● A competition caution waved on lap 25, and Suárez pitted from 37th for four tires, fuel, and track bar and air pressure adjustments to help fight a loose condition.

● Suárez finished the segment 33rd, three laps down. He pitted for four tires, fuel, tape on the grill, and further air pressure and track bar adjustments. He resumed in 32nd, three laps down.

 

Stage 2 Recap (Laps 81-160):

● Started 32nd, three laps down, and finished 32nd, four laps down.

● Suárez held position throughout the stage, which began for him with a long, 60-lap fuel-and-tire run. He pitted from 32nd on lap 140 for four tires, fuel and air pressure adjustments to both front tires. He resumed in 32nd, four laps down.

● The team opted to have Suárez stay out on track during the stage break. He took the wave-around, gaining one position and one of the four laps he trailed to the leaders. The team planned to make it to the end of the race on just one more stop.

 

Stage 3 Recap (Laps 161-267):

● Started 31st, three laps down, finished 30th, four laps down.

● The caution flag flew on lap 168, sending Suárez to the pits for four tires and fuel on lap 170. He continued in 31st, three laps down, on the lap-171 restart.

● Suárez reported the rear end of the car felt different – "darty" – in the opening laps of the ensuing restart. The caution then flew again on lap 175 and gave Suárez the opportunity to attend to the rear-end issue. He pitted from 31st on lap 178 to top off the car with gas and make rear-end adjustments. He resumed in 31st.

● The final fuel-and-tire stop for the native of Monterrey, Mexico, came under green on lap 245, when the team also made slight air pressure adjustments again to both front tires. He dropped from 29th to 30th and held position the rest of the way.

 

Daniel Suárez, driver of the No. 96 Toyota Certified Used Vehicles Camry for Gaunt Brothers Racing:

"Obviously, this is just a learning process. We had an issue with the ECU box in the beginning. We couldn't figure out what was going on, but it put us into a hole and it was difficult to get out of the hole. I feel like we could have finished somewhere in the top-25, maybe even better than that. We had to fight hard. We learned a lot of different things that we can improve for next week. It feels good to get that first race in. We now know what we have to work on. We just have to go out there and keep digging."

Stage 1 Recap (Laps 1-80):

● Clint Bowyer started ninth, finished 18th.

● The No. 14 BlueDEF Ford Mustang started ninth after rain cancelled Saturday practice and qualifying.

● Bowyer immediately reported his car wouldn't turn as he needed it and it was tight in traffic.

● During a lap-25 competition caution the No. 14 crew made tire pressure air adjustments to improve the handling.

● Bowyer restarted seventh, but as the race wore on the problems worsened, and Bowyer dropped to 18th by the end of the first stage.

● The crew took a bigger swing to correct the issues, making a wedge adjustment during the stage break.

 

Stage 2 Recap (Laps 81-160):

● Started 16th, finished 16th.

● Bowyer still struggled with handling through the first green-flag run of the stage before pitting for tires and fuel on lap 122.

● Bowyer remained in 16th throughout the stage, telling the team that the "front end is just really numb."

● No. 14 BlueDEF Ford Mustang crew made more adjustments during the stage break, and a quick stop jumped Bowyer from 16th to 11th.

 

Final Stage Recap (Laps 161-267):

● Started 11th, finished 12th.

● The No. 14 BlueDEF Ford Mustang took advantage of early cautions in the stage to pit for tires and fuel.

● With 87 laps to go, Bowyer restarted the race in 17th.

● He worked his way up to 14th during the stage before drifting backward.

● His final green-flag stop came with 50 to go, but seconds later a caution dropped Bowyer and all except the top-five cars off the lead lap.

● Bowyer took the wave-around to return to the lead lap in 18th with 42 laps remaining.

● A shootout just before the white flag waved saw Bowyer jump from 18th to 12th.

 

Notes:

● This is Bowyer's second straight top-15. He finished sixth in the Daytona 500.

● Kevin Harvick started third and finished third and earned eight bonus points.

● Harvick pitted on lap 27 under caution for four tires, fuel and track bar and tire pressure adjustment, saying the car was quite loose.

I think there would have been some of us that got back close to the lead by the time we got off of turn four. I don't even know where we restarted, but we were seventh or so going into turn one on the last lap with a big head of steam, and the caution came out. Our Busch Light Ford was really good on the short runs. We just kind of lost the handling as we would get deep in those runs and that kind of hurt us. It came down to what we wanted there at the end, but we just got too far back."

Stage 1 Recap (Laps 1-80):             

● Cole Custer started 17th and ended the stage 29th.

● The Ford driver pitted on lap 26 during the competition caution for fuel, four tires and adjustments to address a loose condition.

● Custer restarted 27th and reported his Production Alliance Group/Haas Automation Mustang had tightened up.

● He ended the stage 29th, then pitted for fuel, four tires and adjustments.

 

Stage 2 Recap (Laps 81-160):

● Custer started Stage 2 in 27th and completed it 28th.

● He made a scheduled green-flag pit stop on lap 129 for fuel, four tires and adjustments to help his tight-handling Mustang while in the 29th position.

● Custer ended the stage 28th.

 

Final Stage Recap (Laps 161-267):

● Custer began the final stage from 28th and ended the race 19th.

● Shortly after the green flag dropped on the final stage, a caution occurred on lap 169, which allowed Custer to be the beneficiary of the free pass and gain one lap back.

● When the next caution was displayed on lap 177, Custer was once again the beneficiary of the free pass, putting him back on the lead lap in 28th.

● On lap 217, he was 27th and made a scheduled green-flag stop for fuel, four tires and adjustments.

● The California native was 26th when the next caution was displayed on lap 221 and crew chief Mike Shiplett made the call to stay out.

● After returning to green, Custer was in the 23rd position on lap 228.

● With six laps remaining, the final caution of the race was displayed. The Ford driver pitted for fresh tires and restarted 20th, before ending the day in 19th.

● Custer's 19th-place result bettered his previous best finish at Las Vegas – 25th, earned in March 2018.

I know I need to be better at restarts and some things like that, but I'm looking forward to next week and excited about working with the No. 41 team this year."

● Aric Almirola started 14th and finished 12th.

● He noted that the Smithfield Ford had trouble turning after the adjustments were made.

● Started 12th and finished 11th.

● Almirola aggressively drove to the middle of three cars and advanced back to the top-10.

● He pitted under green on lap 120 from 11th for four fresh tires, fuel and adjustments. He said his Smithfield Ford's front tires needed more grip.

● Almirola was scored 11th after pit stops cycled through.

● He pitted at the conclusion of the stage for four tires, fuel and more adjustments.

 

Stage 3 Recap (Laps 161-267):

● Started 11th and finished 21st.

● Almirola pitted on lap 177 under caution for four fresh tires and fuel.

● He restarted 21st and quickly made his way back to the top-15.

● Almirola radioed to crew chief Mike Bugarewicz that he was contacted by the No. 6 car under caution.

● After noting tight-handling conditions, he cut a tire on lap 208, then pitted for four tires and damage repair.

● He returned to pit road two laps down in 28th before the caution was called on lap 221, where Almirola gained a lap back.

● Almirola returned back on the lead lap on lap 262.

● During the final restart, Almirola avoided a multicar accident and gained multiple spots before crossing the finish line.

We tried a lot of adjustments to hang in there, then the No. 6 car hit us under caution and we cut a tire with about 60 to go that put us a few laps down. That's not the way we wanted to start the West Coast swing, but we'll head to Fontana with our heads held high and brush it off."

BRANTFORD'S PISTON PUSHERS WILL BE THE FEATURED
CAR CLUB AT THIS YEAR'S TORONTO MOTORAMA SHOW

March 13, 14 & 15, 2020 at Toronto's International Centre

TORONTO, ON // FEBRUARY 18, 2020 • In the lead-up to the Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo, each year, car show co-ordinator Gary Challice and the Motorama team discuss and determine which car club will be recognized as the 'Featured Club' at the show.

"We consider all of the established clubs; the ones that have a reputation for supporting the car club culture," explained Challice. "We also look at special anniversaries, the ages of the clubs and their contributions to their communities. And based on all the factors, we decide which one will be the Featured Club at Motorama."

For this year's show, which takes place March 13, 14 & 15 at Toronto's International Centre, the Brantford, Ontario-based Brantford Piston Pushers will enjoy the designation of being the 2020 Featured Club at Motorama.

Reacting to the news, the Brantford Piston Pushers spokesman Gary Graham said, "The Brantford Piston Pushers brag that we are the oldest, fastest and biggest car club in Canada. We were registered in 1954 and have been based out of Brantford ever since. Present-day, we are primarily a social club with 125 members."

Founded in 1954, the Piston Pushers have had a profound effect on the Southern Ontario drag racing scene, playing an instrumental role in the opening and running of the first drag strip in Canada, Kohler Dragway, now known as Cayuga Dragway at Toronto Motorsports Park.

Additionally, the club's founding president, Don Douglas (who remains a member to this day) and founding member Larry Rook, purchased the first timing tree in Canada. The club's members were also among the first to build and race with flathead Ford power. Over the years, club members held numerous records at Kohler Dragway.

"This year, we're celebrating the second decade of our annual 'Remember When' cruise, a mobile car show we hold in Brantford every June."

At Motorama, the Piston Pushers will have 16 vehicles on display in their unique, interactive, U-shaped display, including cars from past members like Ron Lush's 1940 Plymouth Coupe, Tim Turvey's Hemi-powered 1929 Model A and Charlie Haviland's 1923 Bucket T Altered.

Additionally, the club will have its 1949 panel truck and custom trailer in the centre display, which features a 3/4-scale version of the club's old clubhouse sign. Adjacent will be a pair of Chevys (a 1955 and a 1957), lined up 'side-by-side' in front of the original Kohler Dragway 'Christmas Tree.' The booth will also feature a 1957 GMC pickup truck sporting in excess of $120,000 worth of modifications.

"The theme of our display is 'Memory Lane.' We're quietly celebrating our 65th anniversary; our display will be dedicated to past members who have come and gone," continued Graham.

The Brantford Piston Pushers have built a strong reputation for supporting the local community, working with Brantford-area charities like the Lansdowne Children's Charity and the Brantford Food Bank. The club also puts on an annual Christmas basket program for local people in need.

"The more money we have, the more we give," added Graham.

Although the Brantford Piston Pushers will be feted as this year's featured car club, they will not be alone at the show as nearly a dozen other clubs will be represented throughout the show.

Among the other car clubs expected to be on hand in Hall 2 are (in alphabetical order): the Brampton Street Rods, Corvette Club of Durham, Durham Region Mustang Club, Highway 11 Cruisers, Ontario Camaro Club, Ontario Vintage Mopar and the Turbo Buicks of Southern Ontario in Hall 2. In the Hall 4 Mayhem room, The Infidels, The Lead Kings, The SOBs, The Hellions and The Don River River Rats will have vehicles in club displays.

"We're very happy to welcome the Brantford Piston Pushers as the Featured Car Club at the 2020 Toronto Motorama show," said Gary Challice. "We're also very excited about the other clubs that are coming to the show. Showgoers can expect to see great variety and amazing equipment. We're also looking forward to seeing some neat club displays."

 

ABOUT THE PISTON PUSHERS: Founded in 1954, the Brantford Piston Pushers are celebrating their 65th anniversary during the 2019-2020 calendar year. TO PRESENT 'PANEL JAM' AT TORONTO MOTORAMA SHOW

TORONTO, ON // FEBRUARY 20, 2020 • The sixth annual Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo will feature a unique presentation by acclaimed automotive artists Ron Gibbs of Burlington, Ontario, Danno Drouin of Brantford, Ontario and Guelph, Ontario's Rollie Guertin. The trio will be combining their skills to create three distinct panels – in real-time – at Motorama. The show takes place on March 13, 14 & 15 at the International Centre, across from Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

Dubbed, 'Panel Jam,' Gibbs, Drouin and Guertin will be pinstriping three black canvases on Saturday and Sunday in Gibbs' booth near the Pinty's Stage. Drouin and Guertin will also have their own individual booths featuring their award-winning artwork in the 'Mayhem' room (Hall 4).



"For the past 20 years, I've done demonstrations in airbrush and pinstriping, like this, at the SEMA Show for companies like House of Kolor and Sherwin-Williams," said Gibbs. "And I've known Danno and Rollie for years; they're friends of mine and are well-known as two of the best pinstripers in Canada."

Additionally, Gibbs will be producing a painting of the show's featured celebrity guest, Chip Foose, which will be auctioned off for charity on the Pinty's Stage just prior to the announcement of the Motorama Grand Champion on Sunday afternoon.

"That's a pretty big deal for me," said Gibbs. "I've known Chip for a long time and produced artwork for him over the years. I'll begin painting it about a week before Motorama and then finish it at the show. It will feature Chip and some of his most iconic cars."

Gibbs is an airbrush artist, custom painter and proud Canadian with more than 45 years of experience and is recognized as one of the top airbrush artists and pinstripers in the world.


"I've always been an artist and car guy at heart, and I've transitioned from working primarily on cars to also doing automotive-based artwork as well," said Gibbs, who acquired the moniker 'CdnRatFink' many years ago when an author of a car magazine story compared him to Ed 'Big Daddy Roth,' the legendary automotive artist, custom car builder and creator of the 'Rat Fink' character known throughout the automotive world.

Gibbs' custom paint work has won awards at some of the most prestigious custom car, truck and motorcycle shows in Canada and the United States, and has custom painted more than 25 vehicles for companies and manufacturers like Ford, General Motors, Chrysler, Mercedes and Iwata, many of which have been featured at the annual SEMA show in Las Vegas, Nevada. His work has been seen on the covers of many automotive, truck, motorcycle and art enthusiast magazines.



In 2018, Gibbs earned the prestigious 'Painter Award' at SEMA, which is considered one of the highest honours in automotive custom painting. He was also handpicked by Asset Iwata to be part of the 'Air Affair Group' in Salt Lake City, Utah, consisting of 12 of the best airbrush artists and custom painters in the world.

"That was a real honour for me as I was the only Canadian in the group," said Gibbs. "The largest airbrush / custom paint gallery in the world is in Salt Lake City at Asset Iwata and it's amazing to have my work displayed in such a world-renowned gallery."

           Additionally, Gibbs' work has appeared on television shows like Counting Cars, Bitchin' Rides, Iron Resurrection, Chop Cut Rebuild, Dream Car Garage, Holmes on Homes and The Rick Mercer Report. On the motorsport side, Gibbs has produced artwork for the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame, and NASCAR teams like Joe Gibbs Racing, Roush Racing and Hendricks Motorsports.

25th racing season for Marc-Antoine Camirand, thanks to his renewed partnership with GM Paillé

Berthierville, February 12, 2020 – Marc-Antoine Camirand will be heading to his 25th racing season as he renews his winning partnership with GM Paillé, #1 in Canada. Camirand will compete full-time in 2020 in the NASCAR Pinty's series, at the wheel of the n°22 GM Paillé Chevrolet Camaro.

"From the beginning in 1996 and throughout my career, racing has been a family thing. I started alongside my father in Formula Ford at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières, and today, I'm privileged that GM Paillé has included me in their great family. We are still sharing the same passion that unites us, almost 25 years later," said the driver from Saint-Léonard-d'Aston, Qc.

Camirand will run his fourth full-time NASCAR Pinty's season, a third with the support of GM Paillé. The association between Camirand and the #1 GM dealer in Canada started at the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières in 2016 and has continued for four road-course races in 2017 and full-time seasons since.

"I cannot say how thankful I am to have the support of a partner as engaged and passionate as GM Paillé. Motorsport has always been an unpredictable business, and I have rarely had the assurance, this early in the off-season, that I would run a full-time season," Camirand added. 

Once again this year, Camirand will be at the wheel of a Chevrolet Camaro prepared by 22 Racing team, owned by four-time NASCAR Pinty's Champion Scott Steckly.

"I feel that everybody is highly motivated, and it's still only February! I'm also happy to have Randy Steckly back as my crew chief, as he was part of my success in 2017 and 2018. After a difficult 2019 season, I am sure that the winning conditions will be in place for us to get wins and podium finishes," Camirand concluded.

GM Paillé, who celebrated its 55th anniversary last year, continues to share this common passion for racing alongside Camirand.

Marc-Antoine Camirand will compete in all 13 races in the NASCAR Pinty's series in 2020 at the wheel of the n°22 GM Paillé Chevrolet Camaro, starting on May 17th at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, near Bowmanville, ON. The action-packed season will continue until September in four Canadian provinces with races on road courses, ovals and, for a series premiere, on dirt.
