NASCAR's Diamond Anniversary Season Highlighted By New Venues in all Three Series

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 14, 2022) – NASCAR today announced the 2023 schedules for the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. During the organization's 75th anniversary season, NASCAR's national series will visit an exciting mix of history-rich venues, short tracks and road courses, with the sport reaching a new level of excitement with the already-announced Chicago Street Race – a bold, first-of-its-kind addition in a globally renowned city.

 

"As we prepare to celebrate our 75th anniversary season, we are committed to delivering a schedule that acknowledges the deep history and tradition of our sport while establishing a bold future that brings the best racing in the world to new markets and new fans," said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR Senior Vice President of Racing Development and Strategy. "The 2023 schedules are a product of continued collaboration across our industry and partners. We are incredibly proud of what our sport will have to offer fans next season, and excited to celebrate this milestone season with the most diverse compilation of tracks in motorsports."

 

The 2023 Cup season will get underway with "round two" of the Busch Light Clash at the Coliseum, which will take place in East Coast primetime on Sunday, Feb. 5 on FOX. Two weeks later, on Sunday, Feb. 19, the 65th annual DAYTONA 500 will unfold live on FOX from Daytona International Speedway.

 

Additional highlights to the NASCAR Cup Series schedule include:

  • NASCAR will head west for the final race on the two-mile version of Auto Club Speedway (Sunday, Feb. 26) before visiting Las Vegas Motor Speedway (Sunday, Mar. 5) and Phoenix Raceway (Sunday, Mar. 12).

 

  • As previously announced, NASCAR's annual All-Star Race (Sunday, May 21) will be hosted by North Wilkesboro Speedway – the first time the track will welcome the Cup Series since 1996.

  • The NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs will once again begin at Darlington Raceway (Sunday, Sept. 3), with the NASCAR Championship Race set for Phoenix Raceway on Sunday, Nov. 5.

 

As for the NASCAR Xfinity Series, a pair of road courses join the schedule for the first time in its four-decade history, as Names Will Be Made at Sonoma Raceway (June 10) and the Chicago Street Race (July 1). Bristol Motor Speedway will host the Xfinity Series Playoffs opener (Friday, Sept. 15) and the series will culminate with its championship race at Phoenix Raceway on Saturday, Nov. 4.

 

What's old is new for the 'Tough Trucks' as CRAFTSMAN returns to the series, as does a race at the historic Milwaukee Mile. Trucks will make a return to the Milwaukee Mile Speedway for the second race of the Round of 10 on Sunday, August 27. The visit will mark the first time the Trucks have returned to Brew City since 2009.

 

In addition, the CRAFTSMAN Truck Series will get the festivities started on All-Star weekend when the trucks join the stars from the NASCAR Cup Series at the famed North Wilkesboro Speedway for the first time since 1996, on Saturday, May 20.

 

The CRAFTSMAN Truck Series Playoffs will get underway on Friday, Aug. 11 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, and like the Cup Series and Xfinity Series, will crown a champion at Phoenix Raceway (Friday, Nov. 3) for the fourth consecutive year.

CAMERA FEEDS FOR FULL NASCAR CUP SERIES FIELD

Free NASCAR Drive digital product brings fans inside every car for the first time ever

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 8, 2022) – For the first time, NASCAR fans can view every lap of NASCAR Cup Series races from inside the cockpit of any car they choose. Live in-car camera streams for the entire NASCAR Cup Series field are available for free as part of NASCAR Drive, the sanctioning body's hub for live race-day video and real-time stats and information hosted on NASCAR.com and within the NASCAR Mobile App.

 

Fans can choose any driver's in-car camera feed beginning with this weekend's NASCAR Cup Series Playoff race at Kansas Speedway on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 3 p.m. ET. The full-field in-car camera streams will remain a free, ad-supported offering for the remainder of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs and beyond.

 

"Our goal is to deliver an immersive experience for the most passionate fans in all of sports, no matter where they are," said Tim Clark, NASCAR senior vice president and chief digital officer. "We know the significant role second screens play in the overall viewing experience, so to provide live video from inside every car and alongside leaderboards, performance data, pit stats, live betting odds, and more is something we're excited about."

 

For several years, NASCAR has offered live in-car streams for a select number of drivers each week across NASCAR Drive, Mobile App, and its social media platforms. Now, fans will have complete control over their full-field viewing experience with the ability to toggle between up to four streams at once. With a subscription to NASCAR's Scanner product, fans can also listen to live audio from driver and team radio communications as well as the weekly radio broadcast. 

  

"We're fortunate to have tremendous people and partners who enable us to deliver this next-gen video experience to NASCAR fans all over the world," said Steve Stum, NASCAR vice president of operations and technical production. "It's no small feat to introduce something as ambitious as 40 live-streaming cameras inside these cars as they race side by side at speeds upward of 200 miles per hour."

 

The expanded streaming offer is possible in part because of NASCAR's new Next Gen race car, which was introduced at the start of the 2022 season. The Next Gen car design equipped every Cup Series car to accommodate a standard camera mount near the rearview mirror. The current system relies on a 1080p HD camera pointed forward out the front windshield, courtesy of NEP Group/Broadcast Sports International (BSI), that feeds live footage across Amazon Web Services (AWS) and directly into NASCAR Drive.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (September 6, 2022) – As an eventful 2022 race season enters its final turn, NASCAR today announced the return of its Champion's Week celebration to Nashville on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

 

The NASCAR Awards will be held on Dec. 1 at the Music City Center to formally crown this season's NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champions. Fellow drivers, industry personalities and celebrities will take over downtown Nashville for the third year to celebrate an unforgettable 2022 season.

« Ce sera un grand événement, possiblement le plus important en course au Canada cette année, » selon Stewart Friesen.

 

Trois longues années après l'annonce, la série NASCAR Pinty's visite enfin la piste d'Ohsweken Speedway ce soir. 

 

Le Pinty's 100, première course sur terre battue de l'histoire de la série NASCAR Pinty's, était prévue pour la saison 2020, avant que la pandémie de COVID-19 oblige la série à écourtée la saison. Le retard n'a fait qu'ajouter à l'anticipation. 

 

« Je suis fier d'accueillir les pilotes Pinty's à Ohsweken, » a déclaré Glenn Styres, propriétaire de la piste et pilote de la Chevrolet GSR/Ohsweken Speedway n°0 dans la série Pinty's. « Nous avons accueilli des événements majeurs au cours des deux dernières décennies et cette course amènera au circuit des gens qui ne l'ont jamais visité avant. »

 

Pour Styres, la course de mardi est un rêve qui se réalise enfin après 25 années de travail. Notamment, avec la construction de l'autodrome derrière sa maison en 1996 et ensuite, de l'avoir graduellement transformée en l'une des plus importantes installations de course au Canada.

 

« C'est absolument incroyable, » a déclaré Styres. « Presque surréaliste pour moi de voir où nous en sommes. Nous attendions ce moment depuis longtemps. »

 

En plus des pilotes de la série Pinty's, Stewart Friesen (Chevrolet n°22 Mister Transmission préparée par 22 Racing), Ken Schrader (Chevrolet n°3 CANUSA/APC Miami Muscle/Fast Eddie préparée par HER) participent à la course.

 

« C'est une grande leçon d'humilité de pouvoir faire cela avec Schrader et tous les pilotes de la série Pinty's, » a déclaré Friesen. « Je suis ami avec D.J. Kennington, (Alex) Tagliani et d'autres grands noms de cette série. Cela va être un événement cool et je suis vraiment emballée d'y participer. »

 

Friesen, originaire de Niagara-on-the-Lake, connait bien la piste de terre de 3/8 de mile, y ayant remporté une course de la série Sprint Car World of Outlaws en 2015. « Cette victoire était certainement l'un des meilleurs moments de ma carrière, d'autant plus avec ma compagne et son équipe, et elle comme chef d'équipe était vraiment, vraiment spécial. »

 

Lorsqu'on lui demande à quel type de course les amateurs peuvent s'attendre mardi soir, Glen Styres répond avec un grand sourire. « La piste sera vraiment parfaite, je prédis de l'action sur quatre files utilisables au cours des 100 tours de la course. »

Andrew Ranger (Chevrolet Paillé Course//Racing n°27), le champion 2019 de la série NASCAR Pinty's, espère que les avantages dont il a bénéficié lors de son année de championnat seront un atout à Ohsweken. Le triple champion de la série, Louis-Philippe Dumoulin (Dodge no47 WeatherTech Canada / Groupe Bellemare), a participé à une course en Modifié Sportsman à l'Autodrome Granby afin d'acquérir de l'expérience en vue du Pinty's 100. « La course a été disputée dans le cadre de leur championnat de saison, » a expliqué Dumoulin. « Mon objectif était d'acquérir de l'expérience plutôt que de me battre afin d'éviter d'avoir une influence sur les résultats des participants réguliers au championnat de la série. »

 

Un autre pilote québécois, Kevin Lacroix (Dodge no74 NAPA / Lacroix Tuning / Valvoline), a également roulé à Granby pour des essais.

 

« C'était vraiment différent de l'asphalte, mais j'ai bien aimé, » dit Lacroix. « J'ai hâte de voir comment nous allons nous comporter sur la piste pendant la course, car la technique de pilotage et tous les réglages de la voiture sont différents. Nous devrons donc nous adapter rapidement aux nouvelles conditions. »

Three long years after it was announced, the NASCAR Pinty's Series will finally visit Ohsweken Speedway Tuesday night. 

 

The Pinty's 100, the first dirt race in series history, was originally scheduled for 2020 before the covid-19 pandemic put the season on hold. The delay has only added to the anticipation. 

 

"I'm proud to welcome the racing community to Ohsweken," said Glenn Styres, owner of Ohsweken Speedway and driver of the No. 0 GSR/Ohsweken Speedway Chevrolet in the Pinty's Series. "We've hosted major events over the last two decades, but this race will bring people to the track who have never visited."

 

For Styres, Tuesday's race is a dream 25 years in the making. Styres and his family built the speedway behind his house in 1996 and have transformed it into one of the premier racing facilities in Canada.

 

"It's absolutely incredible," Styres said. "It's really surreal to me, it's hard to believe it's finally here. We've been waiting a long time for this."

 

In addition to the regular Pinty's Series field, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Playoff driver Stewart Friesen (No. 22 Mister Transmission Chevrolet prepared by 22 Racing) and NASCAR / short track legend Ken Schrader (No. 3 CANUSA/APC Miami Muscle/Fast Eddie Chevrolet prepared by HER) are scheduled to compete.

 

"It's very humbling to be able to do this with Schrader and all the Pinty's Series guys," Friesen said. "I'm pretty good friends with D.J. Kennington and (Alex) Tagliani and some of the big names of that series. It's going to be a cool event, and I'm really excited for it."

 

Friesen, from Niagra-on-the-Lake, has experience at the 3/8-mile dirt track having won a World of Outlaws sprint car race at Ohsweken in 2015. 

 

"It was definitely one of the best moments in my career, and to do it with my wife, with her team and her as crew chief was really, really special."

 

When asked what type of racing fans should expect Tuesday night, Styres answered with a big grin.

 

"The track will be really good, I'm predicting four-wide racing. There is without a doubt going to be three or four grooves on this track."

 

Andrew Ranger tested Pinty's Series car at Ohsweken in 2019

Being the reigning champion has its perks.

 

Andrew Ranger (No. 27 GM Paille Chevrolet Chevrolet), the 2018 NASCAR Pinty's Series champion, is hoping perks he received his championship year will give him an edge at Ohsweken. Ranger was champion when the Ohsweken race was being finalized and tested his car for the sanctioning body at the 3/8-mile dirt oval, making him the only driver with experience in a Pinty's Series cars on the track.

 

"The track was very fun," Ranger said. "It was my first time on dirt in a NASCAR stock car, so for me it was a great experience."

 

"The crowd is going to be nuts," Ranger added looking forward to Tuesday night. "The race is going to be very different than we're used to on asphalt, but it's going to be very fun."

 

Dirt track preparation is key for series regulars

With the majority of Pinty's Series regulars coming from asphalt-racing backgrounds, there has been a variety of preparation for Tuesday's race.

 

Three-time series champion L.P. Dumoulin (No. 47 Weathertech Canada/Groupe Bellemare Dodge) entered a Sportsman Modified race at Autodrome Granby to gain experience for the Pinty's 100. 

 

"The race was run as part of their season championship," Dumoulin explained. "My goal was to gain experience rather than fight and have an impact on a regular competitor's result."

 

Fellow Quebec driver Kevin Lacroix (No. 74 NAPA/Lacroix Tuning/Valvoline Dodge) also spent time at Granby, but he was on track testing.

 

"It was really different than on asphalt but I enjoyed it," Lacroix said. I can't wait to see how we will behave on the track during the race because the driving technique and all the car adjustments must change. So we will have to adapt quickly to the new conditions."

Everyone is more focused on finding a great deal for their dollar than ever before and the best buy in family motorsports entertainment comes your way this weekend at Canada's Toughest 3rd Mile Oval. Pepsi presents the year's final Double Toonie/Fan Appreciation Night – Saturday, August 13th – at Peterborough Speedway. 

 

Take in a great evening of racing with the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck, Late Model, Kingsway Auto Centre Junior Late Model and GEN-3 Electrical Ontario Modifieds Racing Series divisions. General admission spectator grandstand passes are just $ 4.00. "Our Double Toonie Nights are some of most popular events on our annual schedule," said track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse. "To have this one on the calendar – with less than a handful of dates remaining on the regular season schedule – is the perfect prescription for a terrific night of racing as we get close to wrapping-up our 55th consecutive year of weekly Saturday night motorsports excitement." 

 

Josiasse says a quick check of the point standings in the Bone Stock field shows less than a 100 point difference between 1st and 5th positions. More than 20 drivers have scored points in at least 1 event. The Mini Stock class has had close to 25 different runners make at least 1 start and there is a 50 point margin separating the leader and 5th place in the running order. Nearly a dozen Renegade Truck teams have turned laps during the 2022 schedule, with a gap of just over 65 points between 1st and 5th. Peterborough Speedway's Late Model teams have logged some impressive performances this year and several of the top runners in the standings are within striking distance of the leader as the pack heads into the final events on the line-up.

58,0000 Square-Foot Facility to be Built Adjacent to NASCAR R&D Center in Concord, N.C.

 

Significant Investments in Infrastructure & Technology Will Enhance Live Event Production and Content Capabilities

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (August 10, 2022) – NASCAR announced today that construction will begin on a brand new state-of-the-art Productions facility later this summer. The 58,000 square-foot facility will be built on the land adjacent to the NASCAR R&D Center in Concord, North Carolina.

 

The new facility will house approximately 125 NASCAR Productions and MRN employees with further room to expand operations in the future. NASCAR will continue to have a significant presence in the Uptown Charlotte area, with a large contingent of employees remaining in Five Fifty South (formerly known as NASCAR Plaza) for the foreseeable future.

 

NASCAR will make significant investments in its productions infrastructure and technology to deliver first-class live event production and content to NASCAR's fans and industry partners. This commitment furthers NASCAR's mission of providing fans with enhanced content that brings them closer to the sport.

 

"The scope and scale of the NASCAR Productions business has fundamentally changed in recent years, with NASCAR's live event production operation more than doubling since 2018. Developing a state-of-the-art facility that can accommodate our continued expansion was paramount," said Brian Herbst, SVP, Media and Productions. "In this evolving sports media landscape, live event production and investing in technology that enhances the fan viewing experience has never been more important - it's essential that our new workspace can facilitate that strategic growth."

 

NASCAR Productions will produce more than 500 live events in 2022, up from 200 live events in 2018.  Through a partnership with NEP Group, an industry-leader in delivering solutions for broadcast and live events, the new NASCAR Productions facility will be outfitted with the latest broadcast equipment and software to create high-end production quality and content. 

 

The new location is strategically located next to the NASCAR R&D Center and will be more closely situated to a majority of NASCAR team operations. The facility will offer more space and will be a far more efficient resource for the industry at large. Though still in the early stages of development, the new facility is expected to be fully operational by the start of the 2024 season. 

 

NASCAR Studios, the sanctioning body's hub for content strategy, creation and distribution will also have employees based at the new facility in Concord.

 

NASCAR will conduct a ceremonially ground-breaking event on Wednesday, August 31st. More information will be shared as details for the event become finalized.
