NASCAR Announces 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Schedule

A Return To Rockingham, Two Trips To Iowa Short Track Highlight 18th Season

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 21, 2011) – NASCAR announced today the 2012 schedule for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, highlighted by the sport’s return to historic Rockingham Speedway for the first time since 2004 and a number of familiar venues known for the typically intense battles among the tough trucks.

 

“The 2012 schedule has a great mix of tracks that will continue to deliver great racing for our fans," said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR senior vice president of racing operations. "We're excited to bring the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series to the famed Rockingham Speedway, along with the addition of a second date at Iowa Speedway. Looking ahead, interest in the truck series continues to grow in a number of different markets and we’re excited about what the future holds for next season and beyond.”

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will race at Rockingham for the first time in its 17-year history, marking the first time the 1.017-mile track will host a NASCAR national series race since February of 2004.

 

Next season’s schedule, which features 22 races, opens with the traditional Daytona International Speedway Friday night bout, on Feb. 24. The championship will once again be decided at the season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Nov. 16.

 

With a nod to the sport’s – and the series’ – roots, the trucks will race on short tracks five times, at three different tracks, next season. Martinsville Speedway hosts the first short-track event, on March 31, with a return engagement on Oct. 27.

 

Iowa Speedway, the popular 7/8th-mile short track, also hosts two NASCAR Camping World Truck events next season – on July 14 and Sept. 15. Bristol Motor Speedway’s high banks will hold its traditional Wednesday night show, on Aug. 22.

 

For the third consecutive season, the series will race at the 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway triangle for its fast 50-lapper.

Tony Stewart Wins 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship

With “Walk-Off Win,” Stewart Takes Third Title At Homestead

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 20, 2011) – Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Tony Stewart went from all-time great to legend, capturing his third career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship in grand fashion – a number that places him among a short list of historic NASCAR figures.

 

With a victory in Sunday’s Ford 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Stewart became the seventh champion to win the season finale in his championship season. He out-dueled runner-up Carl Edwards in a finale befitting a championship showdown, tying Edwards in points – but winning the championship on a tiebreaker. Stewart’s five wins bested Edwards’ one, clinching the title for Stewart.

 

Stewart won his first championship in 2002 and second in 2005. The Indiana native now joins David Pearson, Lee Petty, Darrell Waltrip and Cale Yarborough – all NASCAR Hall of Fame members or inductees – as three-time champions. Nine drivers in NASCAR Sprint Cup history have won three or more championships.

 

Stewart entered the season-ending race trailing Edwards by three points. It marked the second consecutive season and fourth time since the inception of the position-based points system in 1975 the champion has overcome a points deficit entering the final race.

 

Stewart, co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing with Gene Haas, is the first driver-owner to claim the championship since Alan Kulwicki in 1992. The 2011 season is the organization’s third under its current ownership.

 

Stewart failed to win a race during the 26-race regular season. But he quickly caught fire, winning the first two races of the Chase, at Chicagoland Speedway and New Hampshire Motor Speedway. He ultimately won five times – twice on consecutive weekends – to break the record for most Chase wins in a single season. Stewart has won 11 times in Chase history, second only to Jimmie Johnson’s 20.

 

Entering Sunday’s season finale, Stewart had led the points just twice in 2011, ironically after Edwards’ only victory in Las Vegas and following the fall race at New Hampshire. He finished the year with 44 career victories, tied for 15th on the all-time wins list.

 

Those wins wound up trumping Edwards’ consistency during both the regular season and the playoffs. Stewart’s nine top-five and 19 top-10 finishes trailed Edwards, however, the series-high five wins ultimately were the decisive factor in the championship’s outcome.

Banquets de l'ACT - Une somme de plus de 100,000 dollars sera distribuée

(Waterbury,VT)—L’American Canadian Tour annonce que les meilleures équipes de la série américaine de l’ACT, la série ACT-Castrol ainsi que celles de la piste Thunder Road International Speedway recevront plus de 100,000 dollars du fonds de points lors des banquets qui auront lieu en Décembre 2011 pour Thunder Road et le 21 janvier à Burlington pour ceux de la série ACT-Castrol et la série américaine de l’ACT.

 

 Parmi les plus méritants, Rick Paya, le propriétaire de la voiture de Brian Hoar ainsi que Patrick Laperle de St-Denis-sur-Richelieu, recevront chacun un chèque de 10,000 dollars pour leur exploits. Dans leur championnat respectif, ils ont participé à toutes les épreuves au calendrier. À noter que pour Laperle, il s’agissait de son deuxième titre dans la série ACT-Castrol.

 

Outre le montant du fonds de points, l’ACT a tenu à préciser qu’en 2011, un montant de 739,277.00 avait été distribué dans les deux séries ainsi qu’à Thunder Road.

 

Retour à Sanair

Il y a quelques jours, l’American Canadian Tour a dévoilé le calendrier de la série ACT-Castrol qui comptera 12 épreuves québécoises comptant pour le titre et en plus, le prestigieux Showdown du 8 septembre prochain qui regroupera comme à l’accoutumée, les meilleurs des deux séries au classement à cette date.

 

Il a également été constaté que l’ACT fera un retour à la piste Sanair à la demande des frères Jean et Guillaume Bergeron. La dernière présence de l’ACT sur le triovale de Sanair remonte à 2006. Il s’agissait d’une épreuve conjointe avec la série Nationale Castrol. Pour l’ACT, le gagnant avait été Ben Rowe alors que pour le groupe de Donald Forté, avec sa quatrième place au cumulatif, Donald Theetge avait été déclaré le gagnant de la série québécoise.

 

A noter qu’en 2005, Marc-André Cliche de Vallée-Jonction l’avait emporté à cet endroit.

 

En terminant, rappelons que le banquet conjoint de la série ACT-Castrol et le l’American Canadian Tour aura lieu le 21 janvier 2012 à l’hôtel Doubletree Inn à Burlington au Vermont.

ACT TEAMS WILL RECEIVE OVER $100,000 IN POINT FUND AWARDS

        Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour (ACT) announced today that the top teams of the US-based ACT Tour, the Quebec based ACT Castrol Series, and Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl will receive in excess of $100,000 in championship point fund awards at the season-ending ACT banquets to be held in December, 2011 and January, 2012.

 

Highest money earners are car owners Rick Paya from the ACT US Tour and Patrick Laperle from the ACT Castrol Series. They will each receive year-end point fund checks of $10,000.00. Both teams ran the full twelve (12) race series in their respective areas.

 

Brian Hoar, now a record-setting eight (8) time ACT Champion from Williston, VT brought home the championship to Paya’s RPM team, and Patrick Laperle, driving for his family team located in St. Denis, QC, was a second time ACT Castrol Series Champion.

 

Ford Racing contributed $11,000.00 to those teams who elected to race the ACT-approved Ford crate engine in 2011. Ten of the 17 Ford teams registered with ACT collected Ford Blue Oval Challenge point fund money. Wayne Helliwell, Jr. won for the title for the second straight year. Team owner, Bruce Bernhardt, from Hudson, NH, will collect the $5,000.00 point check, along with the Blue Oval Challenge Cup, at the upcoming ACT Banquet of Champions.

 

ACT will pay out over $20,000.00 on behalf of those competitors that participated at Thunder Road in 2011. Over the 15-event battle for the ‘King of the Road’ championship, Montpelier, VT’s David Pembroke narrowly beat out former multi-time champion Phil Scott and “Irish” John Donahue, from Graniteville, VT. Pembroke will earn point fund money of $5,000.00 for his 2011 effort.

 

In addition to the $101,720.00 to be paid in point fund money, a record amount of combined purse money was paid to ACT Late Model teams in 2011. There was $739,277.00 paid in purse money to the two ACT series and ACT managed Thunder Road.

2012 ACT Castrol Series Schedule Announced

        Waterbury, VT – The 2012 schedule featuring twelve (12) point- counting events, and the special combination event with the ACT US teams, the “Showdown at Chaudière”, has been announced for the popular Castrol Late Model racing series sanctioned by The American Canadian Tour (ACT).

Four tracks will host three events each from the opening event at the 
Autodrome Montmagny east of Quebec City in late May through the 
close of the race season at the Autodrome Ste. Eustache outside Montreal.
Circuit Riverside Speedway in Ste. Croix, QC and Autodrome Chaudière
will each host three events, including the CAN-AM combination event with ACT Castrol teams and ACT US teams and the fifth annual “Showdown at Chaudière”.

The addition of the Sanair Super Speedway in St. Pie, QC, which will be promoted by Jean Bergeron and the Riverside Speedway, will highlight the ambitious schedule. The event will be 100 miles on the unique tri-oval.

“Our ACT Quebec promoters have provided the ACT Castrol teams with their best schedule in the seven years of the series. We are very pleased with the way the 2012 season has evolved, and the addition of Sanair back on the schedule certainly will please the teams”, said Tom Curley, President of the American Canadian Tour.

The teams of the ACT Castrol Series will compete for a record of over $400,000.00 in purse and prize money in the 2012 point-counting events. In addition, ACT Castrol teams will have special non-point events to compete in such as the TD Bank Oxford 250 at the Oxford Plains Speedway, July 22, 2012; the Fall Foliage 200 at Airborne Speedway, October 6, 2012 in Plattsburgh, NY; and the 50th annual Milk Bowl at Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, VT, September 29th.

Two-time ACT Castrol Series Champion Donald Theetge from Boischatel, QC said, “This is a great schedule for our Quebec teams. I appreciate that ACT listened to some of our concerns about the schedule and purses. I love racing at the US events, but we really wanted to have our series point races in Quebec and now we have that.”

“The addition of Sanair this coming season is exciting news for fans and racers. It should be an unbelievable race now that many of us have had some experience at Loudon (New Hampshire Motor Speedway),” concluded Theetge.

The teams from the 2011 season will honor both the Castrol and US teams at a Late Model combined banquet in Burlington, VT on January 21, before they begin to focus on the ambitious 2012 schedule.

ACT and Thunder Road Announce Separate Banquets

Waterbury, VT – For the first time in several years the American-Canadian Tour has announced separate banquets for the 2011 ACT competitors and the 2011 Thunder Road competitors. The ACT Late Model Tour (US) and the Série ACT Castrol (Canada) Banquet of Champions will be held at the Doubletree Inn in Burlington, VT on Saturday, January 21, while the Thunder Road Banquet of Champions will be at the Elks Club in Barre, VT on Saturday, December 10, 2011.

 

The ACT Banquet will honor Brian Hoar of Williston, VT as the eight-time ACT (US) Champion as well as Patrick Laperle of St-Denis, QC as the two-time Série ACT Castrol (Canada) Champion. Hoar had a record setting season in his Rick Paya-owned ride for RPM Motorsports. He claimed five point counting wins as well as the People’s United Bank Milk Bowl and the Showdown at Chaudiere non-point counting events. Laperle, who also has a ACT (US) Championship, secured his second career Série ACT Castrol title with four wins in 2011.

Competitors from Thunder Road and the Bond/WIX Tiger Tour will be honored at the Thunder Road Banquet. Montpelier, VT’s Dave Pembroke claims the top prize as he is the “King of the Road” for the second time in his career. Pembroke vaulted to the points lead with back-to-back wins including the double-points Mid-Season Championship. Derrick O’Donnell of Bradford, VT took both the Thunder Road Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen and the Bond/WIX Tiger Tour Championships. Greg Adams, Jr. from Hardwick, VT was the Allen Lumber Street Stock Champion, while Jason Woodard of Waterbury, VT is the Junkyard Warrior title holder.

Both banquets will feature a social hour, dinner, and award presentations followed by a live DJ. The Thunder Road Banquet of Champions at the Barre Elks Club on Saturday, December 10 will have the social hour beginning at 6:00pm followed by dinner. The ACT Banquet will have the same format at the Doubletree Inn in Burlington, VT on Saturday, January 21. Kyle Busch Removed from Driving M&M’S® Car for Remaining 2011 Sprint Cup Series Races

Busch to Return as Mars Driver in 2012

AVONDALE, Ariz. (Nov. 10, 2011) – Today Mars, Incorporated, primary sponsor of the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 18 Toyota Camry, removed Kyle Busch from driving the M&M'S® car for the remaining two races of the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The decision was a result of the incident during last Friday's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. 


The car will not run with an M&M'S® paint scheme until 2012, at which time Kyle Busch will be the driver, with the expectation that no future incident takes place. 

"We strongly support Mars' decision," said Joe Gibbs, owner of Joe Gibbs Racing. "This gives us all time to work together to foster a positive change where Kyle can continue racing in a way we can all be proud of." 

Interstate Batteries, a partner of Joe Gibbs Racing since the team's inception 20 years ago, will be featured on the No. 18 Toyota Camry driven by Busch for the final two races of the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

 

A press conference with Joe Gibbs Racing owner Joe Gibbs and driver Kyle Busch will be held in the media center of Phoenix International Raceway on Friday at 9:30 a.m. MST to further address this situation.

Continuing a Tradition: ARCA Visiting Pocono Twice in 2012

(TOLEDO, Ohio) - As has been the case since 1987, the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will visit Pennsylvania's Pocono Raceway for two event dates in 2012.

 

Both races on the 2.5-mile triangular track will take place as companion events, one day before NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. The first, an 80-lap, 200-mile event, is scheduled for Saturday, June 9. The second, at 50 laps or 125 miles, will take place Saturday, August 4.

 

"Pocono Raceway is so unique in that it challenges drivers with three widely differing turns in terms of banking and radius, and it incorporates the speed typically associated with superspeedway racing," said Ron Drager, president of ARCA. "Driving at Pocono requires a driver to brake and accelerate, skills acquired in short track racing, so we have found it to be a great track for less experienced drivers to become acclimated to higher speeds."

 

ARCA's Pocono history dates back over 54 prior races to 1969, when Bobby Watson defeated Benny Parsons to win the track's first ARCA race on the now-defunct 0.75-mile oval at the facility. The June race, though, will be ARCA's first since the summer retirement of track owners Joseph and Rose Mattioli. Track president Brandon Igdalsky, a grandson of the Mattiolis, has risen to chief executive officer.

 

"Our tenure at Pocono dates back to 1969 and spans three generations of family members on both the ARCA and Pocono management teams," Drager said. "Dr. Joe and Rose Mattioli and John and Mildred Marcum started the tradition we carry on today with Brandon and Nick Igdalsky, who were named by 'Doc' to senior executive positions this past season."

 

2012 will be the 26th consecutive year that ARCA has contested two annual races at Pocono Raceway. Bob Schacht won both races at the track in 1987, the first year that ARCA scheduled two races on the "Tricky Triangle." This season's events will be the 54th and 55th for the ARCA Racing Series on Pocono's 2.5-mile oval. Tim George Jr. won a rain-shortened event this June, and eventual series champion Ty Dillon gave Richard Childress Racing a Pocono sweep for 2011 by winning in August.

 

Tim Steele is the all-time wins leader at Pocono with nine (including five consecutive from 1996-98), and he is closely followed by Schacht (six) and Bob Keselowski (five). Familiar names like Ryan Newman and Joey Logano dot the winner list.

 

More detailed schedule information for the season will be available shortly. The following race dates for the 2012 ARCA Racing Series schedule have been announced:

The ARCA Racing Series will wrap up the 2011 season with the Championship Awards Banquet at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center in Covington, Ky., near Cincinnati, on Saturday, December 10.

 

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards featured 19 events at 16 tracks on its 2011 schedule. The series has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 28 states since its inception. In 2011, the series has tested the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, visiting tracks ranging from 0.4 mile to 2.66 miles in length, on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as a left- and right-turn road course.

 

Founded by John Marcum in 1953 in Toledo, Ohio, the Automobile Racing Club of America (ARCA) is recognized among the leading sanctioning bodies in the country. Closing in on completing its sixth decade after hundreds of thousands of miles of racing, ARCA administers over 100 race events each season in two professional touring series and local weekly events.
