Ce samedi 16 juin, l'Autodrome Drummond tentera à nouveau de lancer sa 62e saison.

Malchanceux par la température maussade des dernières semaines, le promoteur Yan Bussière s’efforcera pour une deuxième fois d’entamer sa programmation pour la saison 2012 avec rien de moins qu’une finale de 100 tours chez les Modifiés 358. Mario Clair #22, le vainqueur de la finale «Démonstration» du 26 mai dernier tentera sans aucun doute de récidiver, mais l’opposition sera forte avec les; Bernier, Bussière, Gougeon, Bernard et compagnie.  Le gagnant de l’épreuve finale Modifié 358 se verra remettre la bourse de 3 000 $

 

Les Sportsmans seront aussi de la partie avec une épreuve de 50 tours. Gagnant lui aussi de la course de démonstration de la soirée «Découverte», Steve Bernier #25 essayera de poursuivre sa lancée.

 

Puis les Pro-Stocks concluront le programme avec une confrontation de 25 tours.

 

À ne pas manquer à l’intermission, une séance d’autographes est prévue sur la piste avec les pilotes de la classe Modifié 358.

Foley wins Airborne bruiser

For immediate release – Airborne Speedway – AS060912-1

George Foley drove the Loreman’s/Egglefield Ford No. 34 to his third win in the 30-lap Modified main event Saturday, June 9. It was high-attrition race, which needed three red flags before completion.

 

Foley gained the lead after race leaders Mike Reyell and Todd Ormsby collided in turn one as Foley was attempting to swoop them on the outside. Reyell had survived three earlier wrecks and was on his way to his best finish of the season, but he was unable to return. Ormsby and five other cars pitted, moving Greg Atkins and Patrick Dupree into second and third.

 

Dupree passed Atkins on the restart lap, but he couldn’t get to Foley. He finished second, but failed post-race tech inspection due to a tire violation. Matt Woodruff was a season’s best third behind Atkins, the new runner-up. Chris Cayea, overcame an earlier flat tire to finish fourth, one spot ahead of Leon Gonyo fifth. Positions 6-10 went to Todd Stone in the 1X, Jason Durgan, Pierre Berthiaume, Kris Vernold and Jessey Mueller.

 

Pat McGrail, who began the night with the points lead, suffered a hard hit into the front stretch wall and failed to finish.

 

It was Foley’s third win of the season. “You can tell we rained out last week,” Foley said. “I pushed the car towards the end a little more than I like to because I knew the No. 24 (Dupree) was back there.”

 

Jamy Begor emerged as the J&S Steel Limited Late Model winner after much contact with Bucko Branham during an earlier restart and exiting turn four with two laps left. Branham and Shawn Duquette brushed one another at the front of the field and Branham and Begor, running third on the bottom, crossed paths seconds later.

 

“He came across the nose and I kept my foot in it,” Begor said. “It’s the best win I’ve ever had.” Duquette was the runner-up. Keith Pelkey, Dave Rabtoy and Brandon Atkins finished 3-4-5.

 

Jason McClatchie of Plattsburgh passed “Big Daddy” Don Franklin after a dozen laps of side-by-side racing to claim the Renegade checkers. McClatchie reached Franklin’s door on lap 22 after gaining inches per lap, and took the lead on lap 23 of the 25-lap race. Andy Bordeau of Dannemora was a close third. Josh Terry, just back from a trip to the hospital after an accident in the pits, finished fourth. Rick Doner completed the top five.

 

Sebastien Fournier of St-Leonard, QC, the apparent Sportsman Modified feature winner, failed post-race inspection. That made a winner of Jake Branham. Chris Sousie was second. Jimmy Intone Jr. wound up in third.

 

Erick Sayles of Lake Placid won the Mini Modified feature.

Bucko Branham receives "Real Racer" honors

SOUTH PLATTSBURGH, NY - Bucko Branham of Plattsburgh, NY - the winningest Sportsman/Limited Late Model driver in Airborne Speedway history - was presented the prestigious Speedway Illustrated "Real Racer" award as determined by national balloting, by publisher Karl Fredrickson on Taylor Rental/Golden's Night.

 

The official plaque came with a letter of commendation from Ken Schrader and was bestowed upon Branham for contributions to, energy spent - and achievements - stock car racing.

 

No one personifies the dedication, competitive spirit and love of our sport more," Fredrickson said.

 

"It's unbelievable," Branham said. "I have so much family support and some of the best sponsors ever."

 

Branham drives the No. 20 J&S Steel Limited Late Model sponsored by Bud Lite, Marsha Homes, Liquor & Wine Warehouse, Econo Lodge, Casella, Plattsburgh Paving, Precision Auto Care and Daniels Signs.

Ticket Stubs and Wristbands Honored Friday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway Makeup Event

WEST HAVEN, VT – Stock car racing fans and competitors will be taken care of at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday, June 15, as all grandstand ticket stubs and pit area wristbands from last week’s “I Am Vermont Strong 100” will be honored at face value.  A powerful rain storm moved in after qualifying was completed for the event on Friday, June 8 and forced the main events to be pushed back a week.

 

Feature events for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bond Auto Parts Modified and Renegade divisions will be held on Friday, June 15 at 7:00, followed by the 100-lap I Am Vermont Strong 100 race.  The Modifieds will run 35 big laps as defending track champion Ron Proctor of Charlton, NY tries for his third win in a row, and Pittsford, VT driver Ryan Keith will attempt his own three-peat in the 15-lap Renegade shootout.  The four-cylinder Bomber division, which completed its qualifying and feature events before the storm, will enjoy a rare night off.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway favorites Chris Wilk, Craig Bushey, Matt White, Bryan Town, and Dan Petronis proved that they’re up to the challenge against the Late Model invaders during qualifying for the “I Am Vermont Strong 100.”  They’ll battle for Vermont State Championship Series bragging rights against Brent Dragon, Brian Hoar, Jean-Paul Cyr, Nick Sweet, Ricky Rolfe, and Lt. Governor Phil Scott on Friday.

Added to Friday’s card is the return of spectator racing.  Race fans will have an opportunity to square off against each other in street legal vehicles in one-lap elimination races around the Devil’s Bowl half-mile oval.  The action is intense, entertaining, and occasionally hilarious as novice racers put their daily-drivers to the ultimate test.  The winner of the final round will receive a trophy in victory lane.

All vehicles are welcome for the spectator races – cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, hot rods, Ferraris, delivery trucks, limousines, hearses, and more – but must be registered, inspected, and insured.  All drivers must wear an approved helmet and register to compete before the event begins.

Fans and racers who attended Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday, June 8 will be admitted this Friday, June 15 at no charge with proof of ticket stub or pit area wristband.  General admission for first-timers is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors (62+), and free for children age 12 and under.  Gates open at 6:00pm with an early start time of 7:00pm.

Deuxième manche de la série ACT-CASTROL à Vallée-Jonction

Alors qu’il semblait se diriger vers la deuxième marche du podium, Donald Theetge de Québec a reçu tout un cadeau de la part de Patrick Laperle et ce, à six tours de la fin du LKQ Pintendre Libre-service disputé, hier soir à l’Autodrome Chaudière. En effet alors qu’il menait le bal allègrement, Laperle a été victime d’un bris d’arbre de transmission pour abandonner bien involontairement sa place aux dépens du Québécois. Dany Trépanier de St-Édouard de Lotbinière et Jean-François Déry ont accompagné Theetge sur le podium d’honneur.

 

Parti respectivement de la 11e et 12e sur la grille de départ, Theetge et Laperle ont commencé leur ascension et au 37e passage avait pris la commande de l’épreuve de Patrick Hamel qui avait dominé durant 13 passages. Puis, à la suite d’une relance au 70e après un drapeau jaune causé par Claude Leclerc dont le moteur venait de rendre l’âme, Laperle soutira la commande à Theetge.

 Le pilote de St-Denis-sur-Richelieu volait allègrement sur la piste et distançait ses adversaires à un point tel que tous lui concédaient la victoire. Pour cela, il fallait se rendre au quadrillé, ce que Laperle n’a pas été en mesure de faire. Pour Theetge qui l’avait emporté lors de sa préliminaire, il s’agissait d’une journée parfaite.

 Pour Trépanier, il s’agissait de son premier podium de la saison et il a vraiment tenté l’impossible pour prendre Theetge en défaut alors que Jean-François Déry a réussi un deuxième podium en autant de départ.

 Dans cette course de 150 passages, Steven Boissonneault et Sylvain Lacombe ont complété le peloton des cinq premiers. La recrue Étienne Cliche a pris la sixième rang pour compléter le groupe des pilotes ayant complété le nombre de tours réglementaires.

 Dans cette course, le Félicinois Karl Allard a éprouvé des ennuis d’ignition en plus d’un dérapage dans le troisième virage au 89e tour alors qu’il était parmi les cinq premiers. Il a perdu un tour sur la piste et un autre dans les puits pour ainsi terminer 13e.

 Il  y avait 30 voitures dans les puits, mais seulement 26 ont accepté le départ.

 En fin d’après-midi, à l’occasion des préliminaires, outre Theetge, les autres gagnants ont été Patrick Hamel, Patrick Boyer et Éric LeHoux. Les consis ont été l’affaire de Patrick Cliche et Jean-François Déry alors que le B-feature a été remporté par Stéphane Descostes.

 Allard et Theetge seront invités au Bond Auto ACT Invitational qui aura lieu dans le cadre du Sylvania 300 au New-Hampshire Motor Speedway en septembre prochains.

 La troisième manche de cette série ACT-Castrol aura lieu au circuit Ste-Croix/Riverside Speedway

 

Les classes locales 

En Kamikaze FM 101.3, Ken Grondin de Vallée-Jonction a continué sa suprématie en remportant ses deux courses de la soirée. En grande finale, il a devancé  Ghislain Tessier de St-Casimir et Francis Dufour  de Québec.

En Sport Compacte Bestbuy Pièces d’Autos Rive Sud, Sylvain Carrier de Plessisville, au volant de sa Honda, a remporté sa finale devant Frédéric Blanchette de Lévis et Dominic Jacques de Vallée-Jonction. Ce dernier a également remporté sa semi finale.

En Limité Cool Fm 103.5, la victoire finale revient à Éric Cloutier de St-Côme. Il a devancé Stéphane Lecours de Lac Etchemin et Yves Marcoux de Thetford Mines. Cloutier et Lecours avaient remporté les qualifications.

Donald Theetge Scores Série ACT Castrol Win at Chaudiere

Vallee-Jct., QC – Donald Theetge of Boischatel, QC scored a win in the Série ACT Castrol 150 lap event at Autodrome Chaudiere on Saturday, June 9. Theetge led the final six laps of the event after dominant leader Patrick Laperle suffered heartbreak when he broke a driveshaft joint on lap 144. Dany Trepanier followed Theetge to the line for second followed by Jean-François Déry.

 

Theetge and Laperle worked their way through the 26 car field from the twelfth and eleventh starting positions respectively. Theetge got around early leader Patrick Hamel on lap 37 and began making his way through heavy lap traffic over a long green flag run. Laperle took the lead in the outside lane following a lap 70 restart and appeared to have the car to beat as he dominated for the next 70 laps. He appeared to have the race in hand as he built a lead working his way through lap traffic, but he unexpectedly slowed coming down the front stretch on lap 144 and coasted to a stop at the top of turn 2 after his driveshaft failure.

Theetge held off Trepanier who was all over his back bumper for the final six laps. Déry, Steven Boissonneault and Sylvain Lacombe completed the top five. Rookie driver Etienne Cliche finished in sixth as the final car on the lead lap. Tony Cote, Eric LeHoux, Patrick Hamel and David Michaud rounded out the top ten. Former Série ACT Castrol Champion and winner of the season opener Karl Allard suffered ignition issues and finished 13th, two laps of the pace.

The event was completed in 56 minutes and 48 seconds with just five cautions. A total of 30 cars attempted to qualify for the 26 car field.

Theetge now becomes the sixth qualifier for the Bond Auto ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 22. He joins Brian Hoar, Wayne Helliwell, Jr., Ben Ashline, Nick Sweet, and Karl Allard.

The Série ACT Castrol will be back in action next Saturday, June 16 with their third event of the season at Circuit Riverside Speedway in St-Croix, QC.

Rain Postpones "I Am Vermont Strong 100" at Devil's Bowl Speedway

State Championship event rescheduled for June 15; Masterson wins Bombers; $567 raised for fund

WEST HAVEN, VT – Rains put a stop to the “I Am Vermont Strong 100” stock car event at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday night.  Just as qualifying was completed for the second round of the four-race Vermont State Late Model Championship Series, a blustery rain storm swept onto the grounds and forced the postponement of the main events.

 

Jamie Fisher of Shelburne, VT won the first qualifying heat for the J&S Steel Late Models, just ahead of Chris Wilk and Dave Pembroke.  Milton, VT driver Jean-Paul Cyr beat Joey Becker and Brian Hoar in the second heat, and Ricky Rolfe of Albany Township, ME won the third heat over Matt White and Craig Bushey.  Chip Grenier of Graniteville, VT won the consi over Bryan Town and Dan Petronis, II.

The “I Am Vermont Strong 100” main event has been pushed back one week, rescheduled for Friday, June 15 at 7:00pm.

One feature event was completed before the nasty weather, and Josh Masterson won his fourth NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bomber feature event in six tries.  Masterson, of Bristol, VT, is a rookie.  Bobby LaVair of Gabriels, NY was second, with John McCarron of Rennselaer, NY third.  Matt Monaghan and Harold LaVair completed the unofficial top five.  Bobby LaVair and Ray Germain, Jr., won the qualifying heats.

Qualifying was also completed for the Bond Auto Parts Modifieds, with Hunter Bates of Middlebury, VT and rookie Jeff Haskins of Wells, VT taking wins.  Bill Duprey of Hydeville, VT won the Renegade heat.

A fundraiser was held for the “I Am Vermont Strong” organization and the Vermont Disaster Relief Fund, which have provided assistance for victims of flooding during Vermont storms in 2011.  Race fans donated $567 in a 10-minute fundraising drive, collected by drivers from all four racing divisions.  Special guests included Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles Commissioner Rob Ide, Vermont Disaster Relief Fund Director of Operations Betsy Ide, fundraising organizers Pam Shambo and Debbie Boyce, and Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott, who also competed in the Late Model events.  Rob Ide and Lt. Gov. Scott presented the Kennedy family of North Clarendon, VT with an “I Am Vermont Strong” commemorative license plate in pre-race ceremonies; the Kennedys lost their home in Tropical Storm Irene last fall.

The “I Am Vermont Strong 100” will made up on Friday, June 15, along with a full card of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing.  Gates open at 6:00pm, racing begins at 7:00pm.  Additional details will be announced soon.

Fort Worth, TX - June 8, 2012 - Alex Tagliani will start the Firestone 550 from the pole position for the second consecutive year at Texas Motor Speedway. The two-lap average for the No. 98 Team Barracuda - BHA, Honda-powered car was 215.691 mph (47.5695 seconds). The P1 qualifying marks the eighth pole position of Tagliani's career.

 

Coming off a top-ten finish last weekend in Detroit, Tagliani was anxious to get on track and prepare for the seventh race on the IZOD IndyCar schedule. The IndyCars ran only one practice session earlier in the day on Friday, in which Tagliani finished P4.

Afterward, under the direction of lead engineer Todd Malloy, the Team Barracuda - BHA crew was able to dial in the setup for the Canadian driver. Last year at TMS, Tagliani and Malloy worked together for the first time and earned the pole as well.

Team owner Bryan Herta said of the duo: "Alex and Todd [Malloy] are a great combination. They're doing a really good job right now and it's a very proud time for our team to have this kind of success. The next stage for us now is that we have to convert the qualifying pace we've had the last couple of weeks into results."

Tagliani's excitement was evident as he received the pole award with his team.

"It's pretty clear to see that for the team, once we got back with Honda, we're a threat every race weekend," said Tagliani. "I feel good. Our championship started at Indy, and to be on the pole here is a great boost to the morale of the entire team. The car's good and the Honda engine is producing good power at every boost level. We're stoked to be back with them; it makes a big difference."    

The Firestone 550 will take place tomorrow, Saturday, June 9, with pre-race activities starting at 7 p.m. CST and an estimated green flag drop at 7:50 p.m. The 228-lap race will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network, IMS Radio Network and SiriusXM (XM 94 and Sirius 212).
