Action-Packed August Events Coming to Devil's Bowl Speedway

Fans will have several opportunities to experience on-track excitement

WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway is inviting its stock car racing fans to be a part of the excitement in an action-packed month of August.  In addition to the high-drama racing of the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series, race fans can get in on the fun in a variety of ways.

 

Enduro racing returns to Devil’s Bowl on Friday, August 17, with novice racers running nearly street-legal 4- and 6-cylinder race cars in a survival-of-the-fittest event.  Enduros do not have caution flags, with stoppages only for emergency situations.  Hinesburg, VT’s Eric “Mongo” Messier won the season’s first Enduro on June 29 in a 1995 Ford Probe.  The event begins at 7:30pm; general admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors (62+), and free for children 12 and under.

On Saturday and Sunday, August 18-19, “The Racing School” returns to Devil’s Bowl Speedway for an economically priced two-day instructional session with professional drivers in Late Model-style stock cars.  Fans have the option to drive the cars or ride along with an instructor at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour.  For more information, call 1-877-CAN-RACE or visit www.theracingschool.com.

Sugar & Spice restaurant presents the first-ever pancake eating contest held at a stock car track on Friday, August 24, along with the return of Spectator Racing.  Fans will race their daily drivers – cars, trucks, SUVs, limousines, even an errant school bus or two – in one-on-one races around the Devil’s Bowl half-mile.  Gary Grant of Addison, VT won the first Spectator Race in June.

Saturday, August 25, the Sports Car Club of Vermont returns for its fourth Autocross event of the year.  Autocross is a single-car, two-lap time trial on a temporary slalom-style course set up around the Devil’s Bowl track.  Vehicles of all types and drivers of all skill levels are welcome to compete in the friendly competition.  For more information, visit www.sccv.org.

Lady racers take to the track on Friday, August 31, as Brown’s Quarried Slate and Brown’s Farm Stand & Orchard present a Powder Puff race during Championship Night for the weekly Bond Auto Parts Modified and J&S Steel Late Model divisions.  Drivers’ wives, girlfriends, sisters, aunts, daughters, mothers, grandmothers, and fans will race in cars from the four-cylinder Bomber division.

The Daredevil division will also be running on dates to be announced soon.  The Daredevils are track-owned race cars that offer fans, sponsors, and other community members a chance to compete in real races.  Paul Allen and Frank Fiorino, Jr., have each carried the checkered flag in the division this year.

Finalists Announced for the UNOH Battle At The Beach Announcer Search

Fans to Vote for their Favorite Announcer between Aug. 10 and Sept. 30

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Aug. 10, 2012) – Daytona International Speedway’s UNOH Battle At The Beach announcer search has been narrowed to five finalists.  Now race fans have the chance to select their favorite local NASCAR Home Track public address announcer to join the announcing team for the inaugural event on Feb. 18-19.

 

The five finalists are:

• Jim Burns – The booming voice of Elko Speedway in Minnesota, Burns’ enthusiasm, passion and “wild sense of humor” have been welcoming race fans for 27 seasons.

• Joe Coss – From the booth to the pits and in Victory Lane, Coss entertains race fans at Stafford Motor Speedway in Connecticut with his technical knowledge and insight.

• Eric Huenefeld – From his home track of Rockford Speedway in Illinois, Huenefeld is known for the passion, knowledge and excitement he brings to his race commentary.

• Adam Mackey – A seasoned veteran from Barberton Raceway Park in Ohio, Mackey has called races across the country throughout his career.

• JW Martin – Martin’s career began at the early age of four calling races on his living room floor. Now he is the voice of Motor Mile Speedway in Virginia.

 

Between Aug. 10 and Sept. 30, fans can view each finalist’s video auditions at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com/announcer and vote for their favorite announcer. The winner, who will be announced at the postseason championship celebrations for the NASCAR regional and touring series in Charlotte in December, will join the UNOH Battle At The Beach announcing team at Daytona International Speedway in February 2013.

In June, Daytona International Speedway invited short track fans around the country to nominate their local short track talent to be one of the announcers for the inaugural UNOH Battle At The Beach, which will feature two days of racing headlined by three non-points special events in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series, NASCAR Whelen Modified tours and the Late Model division of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

For an announcer to qualify for the contest, they must have announced for at least one race in 2012 in the following series: NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Division 1, NASCAR Toyota Series, Euro Racecar NASCAR Touring Series, NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour or NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.

Nominations were narrowed down to 10 semifinalists who were then asked to submit an audition video and a pitch video.  A committee of judges selected the five finalists based on the video submissions and nominations.

Ticket information for the 2013 UNOH Battle At The Beach will be available in the coming weeks. 

 

Tickets for NASCAR’s biggest, richest and most prestigious race – the 55th annual Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 24 – start at $65 and are available at www.daytonainternationalspeedway.com or by calling 1-800-PITSHOP.

For the second straight year, the Speedway is offering special youth pricing for the Daytona 500.  Children 12 and under will receive 50 percent off all Backstretch grandstand seats for the Daytona 500 while supplies last. In addition, children 12 and under are free in the Sprint FANZONE throughout Budweiser Speedweeks.

Berlin ARCA 200 Race No. 25 for ARCA at Berlin in 60th Anniversary Season  The Berlin ARCA 200 presented by Hantz Group marks the 25th appearance of the ARCA Racing Series at Berlin. The first seven ARCA races at Berlin (1958-1964) were run on the old half-mile, high-banked dirt oval prior to running on the current paved configuration. It is the 15th of 20 events on the 2012 schedule, the 60th Anniversary Season.

 

Chase Elliott Aims at Berlin
Chase Elliott, the 16-year-old son of NASCAR champion Bill Elliott, is entered for the Berlin ARCA 200 presented by Hantz Group. Elliott, in the No. 9 Aaron's Dream Machine/HendrickCars.com Chevrolet, finished 10th in his ARCA Racing Series debut at Mobile Int'l Speedway after qualifying second. The second generation driver also finished fourth earlier this year at Salem Speedway and finished a career-best second at New Jersey Motorsports Park in his road course debut. Elliott's 2012 plans also include ARCA starts at Madison Int'l Speedway in August, and Salem in September.

 

Keselowski & Keselowski Coming Back to Berlin
Brian Keselowski, who won back-to-back ARCA races at Berlin in 2006 and 2007, has filed an entry for Saturday's Berlin ARCA 200. Keselowski is the son of 1989 ARCA National Champion and Berlin ARCA winner (1986) Bob Keselowski. Bob and Brian are the only father and son winners of the Berlin ARCA 200. Brian's dad Bob will serve as his crew chief in Saturday's race. In addition to Brian's ARCA victories at Berlin, he also won at Salem Speedway in 2007. In 34 ARCA Racing Series starts since 2004, he has nine top-five finishes and 21 top-10s.

 

Veteran Kimmel Back on the March; Snaps Long Winless Streak  Frank Kimmel (Clarksville, Ind.) turned 50 years young in late April, yet the nine-time Series champ is clearly still on his game. Kimmel finally snapped a winless streak that reached back to September of 2008 with his victory at Lucas Oil Raceway two weeks ago. Kimmel went 75 races between victories. Kimmel's first win came in his 53rd career start back in 1994, meaning his first winless streak was 52 races. The two streaks lasted about the same amount of time. Between July 1, 1990 (Kimmel's ARCA debut) and May 22, 1994 (his first ARCA win), 1421 days transpired. Between September 13, 2008 (win No. 74) and July 27 (win No. 75), 1413 days passed. Kimmel is also right back in the championship hunt.

 

Championship Points Battle Brewing Big to Berlin
Brennan Poole, (The Woodlands, Texas) has reclaimed the ARCA championship points lead following his second-place finish last Saturday at Pocono Raceway. However, not by much. Poole leads Chris Buescher (Prosper, Texas) by just 15 points. Frank Kimmel (Clarksville, Ind.) trails in third, 80 points out of first. Alex Bowman (Tucson, Ariz.) is fourth, 200 behind the leader and Chad Hackenbracht (New Philadelphia, Ohio), the winner last Saturday at Pocono, is currently fifth, 320 from first.

 

Kimmel Racing Fielding Car for Berlin Track Champion Brian Campbell  Kimmel Racing, which fields ARCA cars for Will Kimmel and Korbin Forrister in 2012, will be fielding the No. 68 car at Berlin for local favorite Brian Campbell (Wyoming, Mich.), the 2010 Menards Pole Award winner at Berlin. The car was prepared at the Kimmel Racing shop in Clarksville, Indiana, and will be crewed by the Kimmel Racing team during the Berlin ARCA 200. Brian's father Fred Campbell, a 10-time Berlin late model track champion, won the ARCA race at Berlin in 2002. In 2011, Brian joined his father as a late model track champion at Berlin.

 

14 Races, 10 Different Winners, Bowman Only Three-Time Winner in 2012  Chad Hackenbracht became the 10th different winner in 14 races so far this season with his victory at Pocono Raceway Saturday afternoon. The first six events in 2012 produced six different winners: Bobby Gerhart at Daytona, where he picked up a record eighth career Daytona triumph, Cale Gale at Mobile, Alex Bowman at Salem, Brandon McReynolds at Talladega; point leader Chris Buescher at Toledo, and Brennan Poole at Elko. However, Poole became the first repeat winner in 2012 with his dominant win at Pocono in June. Buescher, as a result of his thrilling victory at Michigan, became the second repeat winner of 2012. Bowman became the third repeat winner of 2012 with his victory at Winchester. Bowman then became the only three-time winner so far on tour when he added Iowa to his victory column. Roxton Pond, Quebec's Andrew Ranger (New Jersey Motorsports Park), Kevin Swindell (Chicagoland Speedway) and Frank Kimmel (Lucas Oil Raceway) are also among the different winners in 2012.  

 

Grueling/Versatile Late Summer Stretch for ARCA Warriors

The event on the New Jersey Motorsports Park road course kicked off a grueling and very versatile stretch for the ARCA teams, depictive of the tour's diversity. This particular stretch started July 1 on the New Jersey road course and will end on the Salem short track on September 15. In addition to the New Jersey road course and Salem short track, the tour will travel in between to superspeedways at Chicagoland, Pocono and Kansas, short tracks at Iowa, Lucas Oil Raceway, Berlin, Madison and Salem, and two late-season mile dirt tracks at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield and the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds in DuQuoin, Ill. During the span, the ARCA tour will race at 10 different tracks over an 11 week period. Kansas will wrap the 2012 season on October 19.

Ryan Wilson And Team Set Their Sights On Caraway Showdown

 

RANDLEMAN, North Carolina (August 10, 2012) - - It’s been over a month since Ryan Wilson and his Ryan Wilson Motorsports (RWM) team have tackled their hometown track of Caraway (N.C.) Speedway, but that brief layoff will come to an end Saturday night when the Thomasville, North Carolina-based team returns to their turf and prepares for two 50-laps shootouts.

 

“It’s going to be a strong field but we’re ready for it, more than ready,” said Wilson, a native of nearby Randleman. “We’ve had strong cars all season long, unfortunately we haven’t been able to bring home the finishes we wanted or felt like we deserved. You’ll have that in racing – but we’re back in our backyard, which feels great and I have a good feeling about the race, so I’m anxious to get the ball rolling.”

 

The 2010 fall winner of Richard Petty Driver Search II remains inspired by his RWM crew, who’ve despite a diverse schedule have remained focused on giving their driver a contending piece each and every race.

 

“If you forget about the guys who help you make it to the track, then you might as well not be in that driver’s seat,” explained the driver of the No. 12 Southern Pharmacy Services / Randolph Bank Toyota Camry. “These guys are just awesome. Kirk (Bryant) my crew chief and uncle is the leader behind this team. He does a great job and the guys just fall in behind, never complaining and go to the track with only one thought, winning. Hopefully, tomorrow night I’ll be able to give those guys the same feeling that they had in April. There’s a lot more (people) than just the guys who believe in us, so I want to win again for them too.”

 

Of course, still in the midst of tough economic times, the RWM organization is thankful for the support of Southern Pharmacy Services and Randolph Bank who have implanted their logos on the team’s Toyota Camry this season. “There’s still a lot of blank cars out there, in any racing series – so we’re extremely thankful and appreciative of what Southern Pharmacy and Randolph Bank have done for us not only this season but in the past too. It sure would be nice to bring them home another trophy too – to show them just how much we truly care.”

 

With a week off in-between back-to-back races for RWM at Caraway, Wilson will be focused on another chapter of his life where he’ll attend the University of North Carolina Charlotte where he’ll begin pursuing his degree in Motorsports Engineering.

 

“I’m a little nervous about school, but I think that’s to be expected,” he said. “You’ve seen it over and over again a lot of drivers have a degree in something related to Motorsports, so right now – it’s a good path for me and I can’t thank everyone enough for their support.”

Mother Nature Washes Away Kawartha Speedway's Plans

With the summer of 2012 making headlines for its dry conditions, speedway promoters, fans and competitors enjoyed a spectacular season, but it was bound to come to an end sooner or later.  With the annual running of the 75 lap Don Biederman Memorial for OSCAAR Super Late Models headlining a night of action including the Hasiuk Trailer and Container Rental Mini Stocks, Thunder Cars and NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models, Kawartha Speedway officials were forced to postpone their show for Friday, August 10th because of heavy rains and thunderstorms predicted for the area.

 

“We kept looking at the forecast and hoping it would change,” said track General Manager and Promoter Derek Lynch.  “It’s disappointing to delay one of our most anticipated events of the year, but there isn’t much that can be done.”

 

OSCAAR Super Late Models and the new OSCAAR Modifieds were originally scheduled for the Fraserville 3/8th mile oval’s season opener in June, but when that show was rained out; their events were moved to Friday, September 7th.  Lynch says he’s been in contact with tour officials and the Biederman Memorial has been moved to that date as well.

 

“It’ll be our last night for track points and having OSCAAR’s marquee event as part of the show will make a great night for the fans,” said Lynch.  “We’ll make some adjustments to our regular schedule, with gates opening at 3:00 and racing beginning at 6:00.”

 

Action continues Friday, August 17th with a 100 lap main event for the NAPA Auto Parts ACT Late Models as the featured attraction.  Find complete details on the 2012 schedule at www.kawarthaspeedway.com.

La Coupe BFI à l'Autodrome St-Eustache samedi.

                          

 De retour d’une manche de la Série Masters Canada-USA disputé à Plattsburgh samedi dernier où ils ont participé à un programme combiné de quatre courses de 20 tours, où la tension était à son plus haut, comme c’est le cas dans ce genre de course. Les pilotes de la division Sportsman seront en piste ce samedi pour la coupe BFI., la septième épreuve  de leur championnat local, qui sera la première course avec « bonis fidélité » pour les pilotes Sportsman éligibles selon ce qui a été annoncé lors de la réunion du 26 novembre dernier en prévision de la saison 2012.

 

Steve Côté, avec sa deuxième position au combiné de samedi dernier,  a été le meilleur Québécois, suivi de Maxime Pelletier et Jean-François Bouvrette. Stéphane Aubin et Marc-Antoine Demers ont complété le top 5 des Québécois à la piste Airborne. Côté domine présentement les deux championnats, le Masters et le local ANCA.

 

Les pilotes des autres divisions de l’ANCA qui ont bénéficié d’un week-end de relâche samedi dernier seront tous en piste pour la suite de leurs championnats respectifs. On sait que la lutte est vive dans toutes les classes et que personne ne sera fera de cadeau à ce stade de la saison.

 

Une course « invitation » pour les membres du ASE Lapping Club est aussi au programme de la soirée.

 

Pour l’occasion les pilotes Sportsman seront invités à accéder aux puits à 16h30, tandis que les autres divisions y accéderont à 17h00. Il y aura une période d’essais à compter de 17h30 et le signal du premier départ sera donné à 19h30.

 

Comme à l’accoutumée, l’admission dans la section « admission générale » est de 20$ pour les adultes, 10$ pour les 13-17 ans et les enfants de 12 ans et moins seront admis gratuitement. L’accès aux puits est, quant à elle, de 25$ pour tous.

DEREK WHITE JUMPS INTO NATIONWIDE SERIES RIDE

August 7, 2012.  Kahanawake, QC racer Derek White, a former rookie of the year in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, is ready to take the next step up the NASCAR ladder.  White has signed with SR2 Motorsports to pilot the #24 Boutique Fashion Broker Chevrolet in the NAPA 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, QC August 18th. 

 

“This is a dream come true” said White.  “And we’re jumping right in this weekend to get ready”.

 

In advance of the Montreal race, White has also agreed to work with the SR2 Motorsports this weekend at Watkins Glen International Raceway and attempt to qualify for the Zippo 200 in the #00 Boutique Fashion Broker Chevrolet.  “We all agreed it would be a good idea to get to know the team, work together for a weekend and get to know each other” said White.  “We’re not locked in so hopefully we get up to speed quickly and qualify for the race” he added. 

 

This has been a busy stretch of racing action for Derek White.  This past weekend he competed in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event at the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivieres.  “It felt good to get back in the car after a little bit of a layoff” said White.  “My team worked really hard to get the car ready and we had a very good run” said White.

 

For the second consecutive year drivers at Trois-Rivieres had to deal with rain and that suited Derek White just fine.  Last year White began the event in 21st position and drove a marvelous race scoring a seventh place finish.  This past weekend was also impressive.  “I’ve raced on ice before so the rain doesn’t bother me at all” explained White.  “This year we didn’t quite get into the top ten but gained nine spots during the race” he added.  

 

This weekend at Watkins Glen White will practice the #00 Boutique Fashion Broker Chevrolet Friday afternoon and line up for qualifying Saturday morning.  The race is Saturday afternoon. 

 

The NAPA 200 from Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal takes place August 18th and can be seen live on TSN beginning at 2PM Eastern in Canada and will also air on ESPN in the United States.  The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race will air at 12:30PM Eastern on TSN immediately prior to the Nationwide race.

 

Derek White will be fielding a full time entry in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series in 2012 with Steve Cote as driver and is also planning to participate in several events himself.

Watebury, VT –ACT officials have announced that the first ten invitations to the Bond Auto American Canadian Tour Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH have been confirmed.  Competitors have been invited based on performance thus far in 2012, or have earned their invite by scoring a feature victory on either the American Canadian Tour, or Serie ACT Castrol. Six American teams and four Canadian teams have been invited thus far.

 

The six invites on the American side include ACT Point leader Wayne Helliwell, Jr., Eight-time American Canadian Tour Champion Brian Hoar, 2011 Rookie of the Year Ben Ashline, former Thunder Road Champion Nick Sweet, as well as former Oxford Plains Speedway Champion Ricky Rolfe, and former ACT Invitational winner Joey Polewarczyk, Jr.

 

Canadian invitations include former Serie ACT Castrol Champion Karl Allard, two-time Champions Donald Theetge, Defending Champion and current point leader Patrick Laperle, and top-talent Jean-Francois Dery.  All four have earned their invites with victories on the Serie ACT Castrol tour.

 

In 2011, the crowd at New Hampshire Motor Speedway was treated to watching Nick Sweet, driving boss Eric Chase’s car, from deep in the field to engage in a no-holds-barred duel with Eddie “The Outlaw” Macdonald.  Macdonald claimed it by a paint job, holding off a charge from Sweet on the inside over the last five laps and heading to victory lane for the second time at the Bond Auto ACT Invitational.

 

Sweet feels great about his chances in 2012.  “We’ve run really well up there in the past, especially last year, “said Sweet. “We’re getting the cars better and better here every week, I think we’ve got a good shot at getting into victory lane this year,” he finished.

 

Invites will continue throughout the summer as The Bond Auto ACT Invitational will roll off on Saturday, September 22, 2012 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, NH.

LES PRÉTENDANTS À LA VICTOIRE SONT PLUS QUE NOMBREUX

L’ACT 100 sous les réflecteurs sur le tri-ovale de Sanair

Si la présentation de l’ACT 100 par Coffrage 20-20 sous les réflecteurs sera un moment historique grâce à United Rentals, la course en elle-même risque également d’être un duel épique tant les prétendants à la victoire sont très nombreux. En effet, pour la première fois cette saison, cette neuvième manche de la série ACT-Castrol comptera également pour le championnat américain de l’ACT et les meilleurs seront au rendez-vous.

 

Si l’on commence par la série ACT-Castrol, il faut voir le grand favori, Patrick Laperle de St-Denis-sur-Richelieu dans le cercle des vainqueurs. Gagnant avec très grande facilité des deux dernières manches, Laperle a été le plus rapide lors de la journée d’essais libres en juillet dernier. Puis, il y a Donald Theetge, Jean-François Déry, tous deux de Québec, ainsi que Karl Allard de St-Félicien qui convoitent également la première marche du podium dont le premier vainqueur québécois a été Claude Leclerc en 1984.

Puis, il y a ce que l’on pourrait appeler les «négligés » en termes de paris et qui pourraient également déjouer les calculs des pseudo-experts. Dans ce groupe, il faut considérer les chances de Patrick Hamel et Dany Trépanier de St-Édouard-de-Lotbinière ainsi que David Michaud de St-Anne-des-Plaines.

Sur le plan américain, les candidats sont encore plus nombreux. Tout en commençant par le multiple champion Brian Hoar qui a connait ses adversaires québécois pour avoir gagné au cours des deux dernières années la Can-Am au circuit Ste-Croix/Riverside Speedway. Il y a également Jean-Paul Cyr qui a été le deuxième plus rapide lors de la journée d’essais libres et qui a déjà participé à une épreuve semblable en 2006.

À ne pas négliger également, Joey Polewarczyk Jr. qui vient de remporter les honneurs de l’Oxford 250 et qui est actuellement troisième au cumulatif américain. Également, il y a Wayne Helliwell Jr, Austin Theriault, Brent Dragon, Randy Potter et autres.

Potter, Cyr, Jamie Fisher, Brent Dragon et Joey Pole ont couru sur le tri-ovale de Sanair en 2006 et ils ne seront pas complètement en terrain inconnu.

Si c’est présentation de l’ACT fera histoire dans les annales du stock-car, la course en elle-même pourrait y apparaitre également tellement le talent des pilotes en piste est du plus haut niveau.

Au même programme, les séries Super Sportsman et Procam Super Trucks sont inscrites à l’horaire.

DJ Shaw PASS North Winner at Seekonk

SEEKONK MA ( 8/4) DJ Shaw put his Precision JLM Toyota out front on lap 104 of Saturday night's Pro All Stars Series (PASS) 150 to earn his first super late model feature win of 2012. Travis Benjamin raced home in second and Ben Rowe was third.

 

The victory was Shaw's first PASS feature victory since September of 2011 when he checkered at White Mountain Motorsports Park. The Center Conway New Hampshire racer, who builds the race cars he drives for Julio and Rita Miglioli, now has four PASS North career wins. He joins Cassius Clark, Travis Benjamin,Johnny Clark, Derek Ramstrom, Joey Doiron and Scott Dragon on the 2012 PASS North winner's list.

 

Seekonk Speedway is the birthplace of Pro Stock (now Super Late Model) racing and the tracks' weekly competitors have proven that they can compete with the best PASS has to offer. Until tonight Johnny Clark was the only PASS regular to defeat the home town racers and when qualifying was over the top ten was peppered with local boys including Ryan Vanasse on the pole and Fred Astle in the third spot. Vanasse and Ben Rowe brought the 27 car field to the initial green and Vanasse led the first 32 stanzas until multi time Seekonk champ Fred Astle took over briefly. Derek Ramstrom took it to Astle on a lap 35 restart and he looked strong, maintaining his lead through the half way mark with Travis Benjamin, Austin Theriault, Vanasse and DJ Shaw the top five at the crossed flags.

 

Benjamin and Ramstrom swapped the lead on two restarts, but the pair got together on the next one and Ramstrom went for a ride, spinning from the lead. The incident put Benjamin out front but Shaw was now second with Lonnie Sommerville, Rowe and Vanasse all chasing the top two. Shaw made the winning move when the green flew, and Benjamin barely survived Ben Rowe's three wide move on the final lap to keep the runner up spot.

 

Shaw's margin of victory was .419 seconds; fourteen drivers completed all 150 laps. Seven cautions slowed the pace. Heat race winners were Vanasse, Rowe and Astle.

 

PASS heads to the White Mountains of New Hampshire this Sunday August 12th when The PASS North Super Late Models, PASS Mods and Sportsman will all be in action at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock. Race time is 2:00 PM.

FRANÇOIS LESSARD EN NASCAR CANADIAN TIRE : PERFORMANCE EXCEPTIONNELLE POUR UNE RECRUE

Québec, QC (5 août 2012) – Une fin de semaine de rêve pour le pilote de stock-car de St-Joseph de Beauce François LESSARD; vendredi, après avoir tourné sur un circuit routier pour la première fois au volant de sa Camaro dans la Série Sportsman Québec iSPEEDZONE, il enregistre le 2e meilleur temps en qualification et est crédité pour la victoire de la première manche de deux, dans le cadre de la 43e édition de l'historique Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières (GP3R) et dû même coup se mérite le volant en NASCAR Canadian Tire (NCTS).

Samedi, il termine deuxième dans la 2e manche, bon pour une deuxième place au combiné, son meilleur résultat cette saison jusqu'à présent en Sportsman Québec.  Après seulement quelques minutes pour récupérer, il se glisse derrière le volant de la voiture NCTS aux couleurs Série Sportsman Québec iSPEEDZONE propulsée par Lucas Oil et tourne ses premiers tours en essaies libres.  Le vétéran de 49 ans apprivoise rapidement sa monture et réalise le 17e temps sur 32 compétiteurs au terme de la séance. 

Pas le temps de faire la fête, quelques ajustements à la voiture et quelques conseils de la part de Jonathan CÔTÉ le chef mécano de l'écurie White Motorsports, qui a préparé la voiture, qu'il est déjà temps de recommencer, mais cette fois pour la séance de qualification.  Il s'accompli avec brio de la tâche en tournant un temps de 1 :10.781, bon pour la 22e place sur la grille de départ des 31 voitures et comparativement à L.P. Dumoulin, qui a décroché le tour le plus rapide, un 1 :07.821.

« Je suis vraiment content.  Je remercie la Série Sportsman, iSpeedzone, BOW Motorsports et tous les autres qui ont rendu ceci possible.  C'est un immense honneur pour moi d'avoir été désigné. J'ai l'intention de ne pas forcer, de prendre ce que la voiture peux donner, pas plus.  Lorsque les meneurs se pointeront, « ma ride » sera terminé.  Je ne risquerais rien » déclara François LESSARD.

Lorsqu'est venu le temps de la grande finale, LESSARD a très bien fait.  Même qu'il a grandement dépassé les attentes que ses proches, de la Série et sa famille.  LESSARD a rallié la ligne départ / arrivée, en 13e position, sur le tour du meneur et avec le 6e meilleur temps en compétition, tout cela dans une voiture sans même une égratignure.

« C'est incroyable.  J'aurais pu pousser encore plus, mais je me disais continuellement que je ne voulais pas risquer la voiture.  Le départ et la relance à la fin ont été couteux pour mon résultat.  Aux deux reprises j'ai levé le pied pour assurer que je ne serais pas impliqué dans un accrochage » Ajouta LESSARD.

Ce qui rend l'exploit encore plus incroyable c'est que LESSARD a fait les 44 tours avec un levier de boîte de vitesse de fortune.  « La boule du levier s'est détachée, nous avons donc formé une boule en ruban.  Ça n'était pas assez.  Je me suis blessé l'intérieur de la main » a confié le gagnant du Volant GP3R 2012 à son premier départ NCTS en carrière.

François LESSARD et les autres pilotes de la Série Sportsman Québec iSPEEDZONE propulsée par Lucas Oil seront en piste samedi qui vient au Sanair Super Speedway.
