ARCA Concludes Successful Three Day Test at Daytona; 61 Drivers Test

(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - December 16, 2012) - Three days of open testing for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards at Daytona Int'l Speedway came to a conclusion Sunday afternoon with nary an on-track incident among 61 drivers who posted time and speed.

 

While several veteran teams and drivers utilized the open test in preparation for the 2013 season opener, several rookies circled the 2.5-mile superspeedway in search of seat-time with the intention to gain approval to compete in ARCA competition. Given the success of the test, ARCA's newest rookie crop is off to a very good and safe start.

Venturini Motorsports, in all Toyotas, led the leader board in six separate sessions during which New Castle, Indiana rookie Caleb Armstrong posted the fastest speed overall at 184.192 mph. He was followed by rookie Justin Boston, veteran John Wes Townley and rookie Taylor Ferns.

"As a driver there is no doubt Daytona is the place to be," Armstrong said. "I'm grateful for the opportunity and excited to see my progress in making the transition from open wheel to stock cars. The team has been totally supportive and given me really good equipment."

Venturini Motorsports also provided some 'really good equipment' for Boston, who was second quickest overall at 184.158 mph.

"Obviously there are a lot of variables here but we've been able to quickly create a strong baseline and develop a lot of synergy," said Boston.

"This is new territory for everyone, but the Venturinis prove year after year they can quickly adapt and make it real comfortable to fit in and find speed."

Boston, with title sponsorship from Zloop, announced recently a full season in the No. 25 Venturini Motorsports flagship machine. Daytona will mark his ARCA Racing Series debut.

"It's an honor and privilege to drive at Daytona. This place is the real deal. No other place I'd rather make my series debut than here at Daytona. It's true what they say - all roads do lead to Daytona."

Rookie Matt Kurzejewski, with an assist from former ARCA champion Bob Keselowski, was the fastest Dodge in the line-up, fifth on the leader board overall at 184.121 mph.

Martinsville Speedway track president Clay Campbell, 52, was impressive, earning the sixth fastest speed in a Ford.

"I grew up in the business and I love this sport," Campbell said. "I'm a race fan. I love the business. It's my life. But who in their right mind would not come to Daytona and run a race? This is racing; this is what it's all about. This place has so much history and tradition. This is big for me."

Rookie Bo Lemastus, in a Dodge, was seventh overall with rookie Thomas Praytor earning the eighth fastest speed in a Ford.

"Two of our goals for the test were to earn the respect of the ARCA garage and prove our Mobile team could compete at this level," Praytor said. "Hopefully our performance on and off the track this weekend shows were serious about what we're doing."

Cunningham Motorsports teammates Michel Disdier, of Nice France, and series veteran Tom Hessert completed the top-10 respectively. Both were driving Dodges.

Eight-time winner Bobby Gerhart was 23rd fastest.

The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards has crowned 30 ARCA national champions in 60 seasons since 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 26 states since its inception. The series has tested the abilities of drivers and race teams over the most diverse schedule of stock car racing events in the world, visiting tracks ranging from 0.375 mile to 2.66 miles in length on both paved and dirt surfaces as well as a left- and right-turn road course in its most recent season.

AUGUSTA, Maine – New England's longest continuously running motorsports trade show is back to celebrate its 25th anniversary next month.

With track and series displays, industry vendors, driver autograph sessions, seminars and more, the Northeast Motorsports Expo returns to the Augusta Civic Center from Jan. 11-13, 2013. Former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Ricky Craven and Steve Park are both scheduled to make appearances during the weekend.

 

“We are fortunate to have the continued support of Peter Prescott and his family and employees at Team EJP,” said Expo promoter Steve Perry, owner of the Mainely Motorsports television show, who took over the show for founders Tim and Kathy Attaya in 2009. “I felt honored to be first approached a few years ago by Tim, who called the show his 'baby,' and we continue to add to the Expo's success.”

Craven, a Maine native and two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race winner during his driving career, will participate in the “Passing The Mic” seminar at the Expo. Currently a popular member of ESPN's NASCAR coverage on television, Craven should feel right at home offering his opinion on a variety of topics related to short-track racing today.

Park, who drove for the late Dale Earnhardt, is the only driver to compete in five different NASCAR divisions at New Hampshire Motor Speedway during his career. He will be in the New England Racing Fuel booth to sign autographs and meet with fans during the Expo.

Friday night, January 11, marks perhaps the most exciting night of the entire weekend. Beginning at 7 p.m., show organizers will reveal the Top 25 drivers and personalities in the 25-year history of the Northeast Motorsports Expo as decided by a fan vote.

“I really believe this is going to be our best Expo yet,” Perry said. “We've got a great mix of drivers, industry leaders, displays, seminars and interactive events. There's something for everybody this year.

“A lot of people have stepped up to make this event what it is, and I can't thank them enough. Team EJP, Quirk Auto, Heluva Good!, New England Racing Fuel and Mainely Motorsports have all played large roles in keeping the tradition that is the Northeast Motorsports Expo going.”

In addition to the “Passing The Mic,” which debuted at the Expo in 2012 as a roundtable discussion involving several short-track racing media personalities, there will be several seminars of interest for fans and team members. One of the most highly-anticipated new events is the Last Chance Motorsports Pit Stop Challenge which encourages fans to try their hand at completing an actual pit stop.

Fast Track, Hoosier on Board to Support ARCA Touring Series Champions in "Road to Daytona"

(DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.) - When open testing begins this morning for ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards teams at Daytona International Speedway, drivers in ARCA's "Road to Daytona" program will have Fast Track High Performance Driving School and Hoosier Racing Tire, among others, to thank.

 

The North Carolina-based Fast Track High Performance Driving School, ARCA's Official Driving School, will provide the cars and support for three 2012 touring series champions: the ARCA CRA Super Series' Johnny VanDoorn, the ARCA Midwest Tour's Jonathan Eilen, and the ARCA Gold Cup Series' Dakota Carlson.

 

School owner Andy Hillenburg, a two-time ARCA Daytona winner and the 1995 Series champion, will assist each Road to Daytona driver in the test session. The 2012 Daytona test is the second at which Hillenburg's school has assisted the touring series competitors. Last year, the Super Series' Derrick Griffin and the Gold Cup Series' Dennis Strickland drove Fast Track cars in the Daytona test.

 

Hoosier Racing Tire will provide a set of tires for each driver at the test. The Indiana-based company has been active in the ARCA Racing Series since the 1950s and has acted as the series' official tire supplier since 1995.

 

Yesterday, officials from Roush Yates Engines and ARCA announced that Roush Yates will supply an ARCA spec restrictor plate engine lease for the weekend's test.

 

Testing will take place from 9-12 and 1-5 today, Saturday, and Sunday. Over 50 drivers are entered. ARCARacing.com will feature live timing and scoring of each session as teams prepare for the 50th consecutive annual event at Daytona, a tradition dating back to 1964.

Pierre Laramée se joint à REVSTAR

Nous sommes fier d'accueillir un nouveau pilote qui amorcera sa première saison en REVSTAR - STR au printemps prochain. Il s'agit de Pierre Laramée de St-Hyacinthe, un pilote expérimenté qui évoluait dans la catégorie Sportsman Dirt à l'Autodrome Drummond depuis 2 ans avec son fils Mathieu. Le passage de Pierre en STR a fait dire à Mathieu en riant : "Maintenant que Pierre va rouler en STR, ça va me faire un de moins à dépasser en piste !"

 

Propriétaire d'une compagnie d'excavation, Pierre Laramée est  très occupé durant la saison de courses, son emploie l'empêchait de travailler comme il l'aurait souhaité sur sa voiture de course mais il n'était pas prêt à renoncer à sa passion pour les sport automobile. Il était à la recherche d'une série compétitive qui pourrait correspondre à ses besoins et c'est en STR de REVSTAR qu'il a jeté son dévolu. 

Pierre a été séduit par ces bolides "Open Wheel", après quelques essais, il a rapidement été convaincu qu'il s'agit de véritables voitures de courses et que l'accent est mis sur le pilotage. À bord de ces bolides, il peut vivre les sensations qu'il recherche sur une piste de course. Un autre point qui l'a incité à se procurer un bolide STR, c'est le respect et l'ambiance qui règne entre les pilotes dans la série  REVSTAR.

Le pilote de Dirt a participé à deux courses en STR durant la saison, il a  été surpris par le caractère nerveux de son bolide qu'il compare avec une motoneige, un sport qu'il affectionne particulièrement.

Pierre Laramée s'est procuré l'ancienne voiture de Daniel Nadeau qui va graduer en Dirt Modifié.

Son fils Mathieu est en réflexion présentement, il pourrait éventuellement lui aussi considérer la série REVSTAR... c'est à suivre.

ARCA Changing Minimum Age Requirement at Pocono, Kentucky; New Starting Field Maximums Announced

(TOLEDO, Ohio) - Officials from the Automobile Racing Club of America have announced several important procedural changes for the 2013 ARCA Racing Series season.

 

Beginning in 2013, drivers aged 17 years old may be considered for eligibility to drive in race events at Pocono Raceway and Kentucky Speedway. Drivers seeking approval will be subject to meeting specific and strict guidelines, including but not limited to a thorough driving experience review, successful participation in a minimum of five approved ARCA Racing Series events, and an ARCA-sanctioned open test at the intended track.

 

The change will give 17-year-old drivers three more races to enter in 2013, bringing the potential season total for a 17-year-old to 16 races.

 

"In recognizing the growing youth movement in stock car racing, we are proud to have reached agreements with two partner tracks that will allow qualified, up-and-coming drivers to begin their speedway careers at a younger age," said ARCA president and CEO Ron Drager. "We appreciate the commitment from those tracks to assist in our drivers' development."

 

ARCA also announced that in 2013, the starting field for the February 16 race at Daytona International Speedway will be 40 positions. The first 30 positions will be set by time trials, and the remaining 10 will be set by the provisional procedure listed on the entry blank.

 

Starting fields for other tracks 0.75 mile or larger will hold a maximum of 36 positions. The first 30 positions will be set by time trials, and the remaining six will be set by the provisional procedure listed on the entry blank. ARCA notified teams of the changes in a bulletin yesterday.

 

Testing for the 2013 season will begin Friday and last through Sunday at Daytona International Speedway. The 2013 season will begin with ARCA's 50th consecutive annual appearance at Daytona on Saturday, February 16, televised live on SPEED.

WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway, “Vermont’s Fastest Family Fun,” is offering discount season passes for the 2013 stock car racing season just in time for the holidays.  The half-mile track, located in West Haven, VT just 20 minutes outside of Rutland City, will host regular Friday night NASCAR Whelen All-American Series events throughout the summer months.

 

General Admission season passes are available for the 16-event schedule to be announced soon.  The 2013 season pass includes admission for all NASCAR events during the summer, along with several high-profile special events.  The American-Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Models will open the 2013 Devil’s Bowl Speedway season in conjunction with the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series on Sunday, May 5 with the historic “Spring Green 113” event, and will return with a special summer Sunday event on July 28.

While the Adult General Admission season pass has seen a minimal five-dollar increase to $190 from the 2012 price, the savings have also increased to nearly 15% off the race-day ticket gate price.  The Senior General Admission season pass is available for only $160 for race fans age 62 and up for nearly 20% off the race-day Senior ticket price.  As an added benefit, all season pass holders will get a 15-minute head start in selecting their grandstand seats at every event.

Roush Yates to Support "Road to Daytona" for ARCA Touring Series Champions

(MOORESVILLE, N.C.) - Officials from Roush Yates and the Automobile Racing Club of America have announced that Roush Yates will support ARCA's "Road to Daytona" program this weekend at Daytona International Speedway. 

 

Roush Yates will supply an ARCA spec restrictor plate engine lease for the weekend, to be run by the three drivers participating in this year's Road to Daytona. ARCA CRA Super Series champion Johnny VanDoorn, ARCA Midwest Tour champion Jonathan Eilen, and ARCA Gold Cup Series champion Dakota Carlson are the three drivers who will join ARCA Racing Series teams at the superspeedway for the open test, which will run from Friday to Sunday.
