Valérie Chiasson classée huitième au championnat pour sa saison recrue en Coupe Porsche GT3

 

Le 4 septembre 2016.- Seule pilote féminine inscrite cette année dans la Coupe Porsche GT3 Canada, Valérie Chiasson a complété ce week-end sur le circuit de Mosport (Canadian Tire Motorsport Park) sa toute première saison dans cette prestigieuse catégorie. En dépit d'incidents qui l'ont forcée à passer plusieurs tours dans les puits lors de la première course puis à abandonner dans la seconde, elle termine la saison avec le huitième rang final au championnat.

 

              

 

 

Pour cet ultime programme double de la saison 2016 de Coupe Porsche GT3 Canada, Valérie Chiasson retrouvait le circuit de Mosport qu'elle avait découvert en mai dernier, mais elle devait s'habituer avec une nouvelle équipe technique puisque c'est la réputée équipe ontarienne Mark Motors, basée à Toronto, qui a préparé sa Porsche GT3 Cup aux couleurs de Porsche Prestige pour ce rendez-vous. « La saison 2016 était une année d'apprentissage de la Coupe Porsche pour moi. Ce week-end, avec le personnel de l'équipe Mark Motors, la collaboration a vraiment été très positive, ils ont fait un super travail, j'ai beaucoup appris et amélioré de manière significative mes chronos » explique Valérie Chiasson.

 

Qualifiée septième en vue de la course de samedi, Valérie a toutefois perdu une position au départ de la première course. « J'ai perdu du temps avant de réussir à reprendre la septième place, mais j'ai ensuite commencé à revenir sur le sixième ». Sa progression a hélas été stoppée aux deux tiers de l'épreuve, comme Valérie l'explique : « Aux essais libres du vendredi, j'avais senti une petite vibration au niveau d'une roue et peu après le pneu avait explosé. J'ai ressenti la même vibration alors qu'il restait 20 minutes à faire à la course. C'était trop risqué de tenter de rejoindre l'arrivée sans m'arrêter pour faire changer la roue ». Après cet arrêt, Valérie a repris la piste et complété la course en neuvième place.

 

Dimanche, c'est depuis la septième place sur la grille de départ que Valérie Chiasson s'est élancée pour les dernières 45 minutes de la saison de la Coupe Porsche GT3 Canada. « J'ai connu un excellent départ et j'ai été capable de me maintenir dans le "Top 6" durant les premiers tours, avant de sortir de piste. J'ai alors perdu le bouclier avant et je suis rentrée aux puits. De retour en piste, il y avait de nouveau des vibrations, dès lors j'ai préféré m'arrêter, par sécurité » résume celle qui a été choisie en 2016 comme récipiendaire de la bourse des "Amis du Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières" et qui est également la représentante canadienne de la commission "Women in Motorsport", une commission de la Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile encourageant la participation des femmes dans le sport automobile.

 

Pour sa première saison en Coupe Porsche GT3, Valérie Chiasson a vécu une véritable année d'apprentissage, avec ses bonnes et mauvaises surprises. « La Porsche GT3 Cup est une voiture fantastique à piloter mais elle réclame quelques séances d'essais avant de débuter une saison, si on veut espérer performer aux avant-postes. Or j'ai débuté la saison sans le moindre mètre de pratique ! Je devais apprendre certains circuits, la voiture, la série et travailler avec une nouvelle équipe. La tâche était difficile mais elle m'a beaucoup plu. J'aime travailler fort pour réussir et je dois avouer que ce défi là était grand ! » a-t-elle expliqué.

 

Ses progrès tout au long de la saison progrès se sont confirmés ce week-end en Ontario. « Je suis confiante pour 2017. En vue de la prochaine saison, je prévois faire des essais en Floride durant l'hiver et revenir fort l'an prochain. Merci à mes partenaires de cette saison 2016, merci aux équipes techniques qui ont préparé la voiture tout au long de la saison, ainsi qu'à mon coach des derniers événements, l'Ontarien Aaron Povoledo, avec qui l'entente est parfaite. Son expérience m'est très profitable » conclut Valérie.

 

Le pilote de Vancouver Scott Hargrove a remporté la course de samedi, et l'Ontarien Zach Robichon celle de dimanche. Daniel Morad a décroché le titre de champion 2016.

Valérie Chiasson Ranked Eighth in the Championship in her Rookie Season of Porsche GT3 Cup

 

 

September 4, 2016.- The only female registered this year in the Porsche GT3 Cup Canada, Valérie Chiasson completed her first season in this prestigious class, this past weekend at the Mosport track (Canadian Tire Motorsport Park). Despite incidents that forced her to spend multiple laps in the pits during the first race and abandon the second race, she finished the season in eighth spot in the final championship standings. 

 

              

 

 

In this final doubleheader program of the 2016 season of Porsche GT3 Cup Canada, Valérie Chiasson found herself back at Mosport, where she first competed at last May, but she was also familiarizing herself with new technical crew as the reputable Toronto-based Mark Motors team prepared her Porsche Prestige Porsche GT3 Cup for this outing. « The 2016 season was a learning curve for me. This weekend, with the Mark Motors team, the collaboration was a very positive one. They did a great job and I learned a lot, which significantly improved my times » explains Valérie Chiasson.

 

Qualifying in seventh ahead of Saturday's race, Valérie immediately lost a position at the start of the first race. « I lost a bit of time before I was able to take back seventh spot, but I was then able to gain time on sixth. This progression was halted two-thirds of the way into the race, as Valérie explains : « In Friday's practice session, I felt a small vibration in one of the wheels and shortly after that, the tire exploded. I felt the same vibration with about 20 minutes left in the race. It was too risky to try to finish without changing the wheel ». After the pit stop, Valérie retook the track and finished the race in ninth place. 

 

Sunday, Valérie Chiasson launched from seventh place on the starting grid for the last 45 minutes of the Porsche GT3 Cup Canada season. « I had a great start and I was able to stay within the Top 6 during the first few laps, before going off course. I lost the front spoiler and had to go to the pits. When I returned to the track, there were vibrations once again, and I felt it was safest to stop » summarized Chiasson, who was selected in 2016 as the recipient of the "Amis du Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières" bursary and who is also the Canadian representative of the FIA "Women in Motorsport" commission, which encourages women's participation in motorsports. 

 

For her first season in Porsche GT3 Cup, Valérie Chiasson had a lot of learning experiences, with both good and bad surprises. « The Porsche GT3 Cup is a fantastic car to drive but requires a few testing sessions before starting a competition season if you expect to perform among the front-runners. I started the season without even one meter of testing! I had to learn the tracks, the car, the series, and working with a new team.  It wasn't an easy task but I had a great time.  I like working hard for success and I have to admit that this was quite the challenge !» she confessed.

 

Her progress all season long was reaffirmed this past weekend in Ontario. « I am confident for 2017. Looking ahead to the next season, I expect to do some testing in Florida during the winter and come back next year even stronger. Thank you to all my partners during the 2016 season, thank you to the technical teams that prepared my car all season long, as well as my coach on the last events, Ontarian Aaron Povoledo, with whom I have a perfect arrangement. His experience is so beneficial » concludes Valérie.

 

Vancouver driver Scott Hargrove won Saturday's race and Ontarian Zach Robichon won Sunday's. Daniel Morad was crowned 2016 series champion.

Championship Clash Decides Peterborough Speedway's Regular Season Titles

The right combination of hard work, preparation and determination will always produce results. Drivers in Peterborough Speedway's 5 weekly divisions saw their efforts pay off with season point titles – Saturday, September 3rd – during the Championship Clash at Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval. Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck, Paul Davis Systems Thunder Car and Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model teams clinched the 2016 crowns, while the OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Model squad took the next step toward this year's honours.

 

At the start of racing Jeremy Kelly, James Townsend Chris Burrage, Howie Crowe and Rick Spencer-Walt led the points in 4Fun, Mini Stock, Renegade Truck, Thunder Car and Late Model divisions respectively.

 

Main event action for the night got rolling with a 20 lapper for the Paul Davis Systems Thunder Cars, with Tom Podd and Nick Oram in the front row. Oram used the tough, outside line to take an early lead with title rivals Bailey Jacobs and Howie Crowe moving into 3rd and 5th in the running order. A yellow for an incident in the 3rd turn with 7 laps complete slowed the pace, but Oram was still in control of the field. Crowe would move into the runner-up spot and stayed there until the checkered flag. James Townsend, Jacobs and Rob Richards rounded-out the top 5. His second place finish gave Howie Crowe the Thunder Car crown.

 

Stacy Bierworth and her father Stephen paced the Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Trucks to the stripe for their 15 lap feature. Within just a few laps, Chris Burrage had taken over the top spot, with last season's title-holder Jack Dallin on his tailgate. The pair ran some torrid laps to keep the crowd on the edge of their seats, but Burrage won the battle and the war, taking the division championship with another feature win. Jack Dallin, Stephen Bierworth, Doug Dallin and Stacy Bierworth followed Burrage across the line.

 

With Donovan Price and Tiffany Vanderbelt leading the way, the Jiffy Lube Mini Stock pack rolled from the staging area for their 20 lap season-ending headline dance. With another track championship still slightly within his grasp, Tyler Junkin took and early lead and was catching the tail of the field as the scoreboard showed 7 laps complete. James Townsend had worked his way into the runner-up spot with 5 laps to go, but heavy traffic had him almost a half a track behind the leader. As the checkered flag flew to give Junkin the feature win, Townsend locked-up the title with his second place effort. Donovan Price, Tiffany Vanderbelt and Kevin Strutt had great seats for the title fight and finished 3rd, 4th and 5th respectively.

 

Mike Wallace and Amanda Balson led the Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Models for the 30 lap main event that would determine the 2016 track championship. From the drop of the green flag, Wallace ran the bottom line so well, it would've taken a crowbar to move him out of the preferred groove. He was still leading at halfway and when a nudge moved him out of the way to bring-out a lap 21 yellow flag, he got the position pack when the other driver involved took blame for the spin. Another quick yellow a lap later tightened the running order and as the field saw 24 circuits complete, point leader Rick Spencer-Walt had moved into the top spot and claimed the track title. Former champion Bryan Sudsbury was 2nd, with Dan McHattie, Balson and Jack Horner finishing out the top 5. Wallace was 6th at the line.

 

Dave Feeney and Shawn Solomon paced the Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun field to the Great Canadian RV feature race green flag that would close out action for Peterborough Speedway's regular divisions. Feeney grabbed an early lead as the 25 starters battled around the tight, tricky bulling on Mount Pleasant Road, west of the Liftlock City. The leaders caught the back of the pack within 6 laps on the board. Using a restart from a lap 11 caution flag, defending track champion Ryan Oosterholt grabbed the lead and title hopeful Jeremy Kelly moved into second spot 3 laps later. Kelly – who came into the night with a 19-point cushion – took the crown as he followed Oosterholt across the line. Feeney, Jake Kelly and Sean Kennedy completed the top 5.

 

John Cadman and J.R. Fitzpatrick led the way as the 50 lap OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Model 'A' main hit Canada's Toughest 3rd of a Mile Paved Oval. Glen Watson took the checkered flag, with Fitzpatrick and Gary Passer joining him to advance to the next round of the championship chase that will be decided at the Autumn Colours Classic. Taking checkered flags in qualifying heats were point Rob Richards and Bailey Jacobs in the Paul Davis Systems Thunder Cars. Jack Dallin took both preliminary rounds for the Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Trucks, with Tyler Junkin and James Townsend each taking a pair of Jiffy Lube Mini Stock qualifiers. Earl Ireland Auto Sales Late Model heat wins went to Bryan Sudsbury, Mike Wallace, Dan McHattie and Amanda Balson. Ryan Oosterholt and Jake Kelly each had a pair of Battlefield Equipment Rental 4Fun checkered flags, with Keith Parkes and Dave Feeney taking one each.

 

The top 3 in finishers in the OSCAAR Outlaw Super Late Model qualifying heats were J.R. Fitzpatrick, Roy Passer and Gary Passer in heat one. Glenn Watson, Kelly Balson and John Cadman in the round 2. Gary Passer, Kelly Balson and Charlie Gallant in the 3rd heat and John Cadman, Glenn Watson and Rick Spencer-Walt in the 4th and final qualifier.

 

Bullring Bullet Points: Brian Bichener of Oshawa, Ontario took home $641 by winning the night's 50/50 draw, in support of the Millbrook Lions Club…Even though he entered the night within 6 points of the Late Model track championship, an out of town obligation kept hometown favourite Chris Mitchell from attending the Championship Clash. The former Autumn Colours champ relinquished the driving duties to Dan McHattie, who has helped set-up the car all season.

 

Peterborough Speedway takes a break until the running of the 24th annual Autumn Colours Classic – presented by Lucas Oil Products – Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 7th to 9th.

PLATTSBURGH- Danny Sullivan picked up his first checkered of 2016 in the second of two twin 25 lap features for the Ernie's Discount Tools Sportsman Modified division. Sullivan's season has been full of consistency, but winless up to this point. This past Saturday, that changed.
            Sullivan started seventh on the grid and used the outside groove to pick off cars and work his way to the front. A midrace restart made things interesting when Sullivan selected the outside and gave Jamy Begor the inside lane. Begor was able to hang with Sullivan for two laps before Sullivan drove away for good.
            "We worked the outside in most of the practice sessions today," Sullivan said. "If you can get your car fast up there, the bottom shouldn't be a problem."
            Nick Heywood battled with Begor for second, eventually making the pass on the inside. Begor hung on to finish third. Mike Wells and Codie Aubin completed the unofficial top five.
            The first twin 25 lap feature saw Heywood reel in his ninth win of the season. Heywood used a number of yellow flags to put himself in position to pick up the victory. Heywood's margin of victory in the feature was nine car lengths. Sullivan, Wells, Begor and Timex Morgan completed the unofficial top five.
            The Jeffords Steel Renegade division ran a 50 lap main event.
Shawn Duquette turned a quality starting spot into his second win of the racing season. Duquette drove from the fifth starting spot to victory. Duquette controlled the race after a lap 15 restart. Richie Turner, Jason McClatchie, Josh Terry and Dylan Rabtoy completed the unofficial top five.
            Twin 12 lap features were run by the Busch Beer Mini Mod division.
            Dale O'Neil was able to restart from the third starting spot after a rollover in turn four on lap one. Tim LaFountain was the driver involved in the flip and exiting his car under his own power. O'Neil worked under Tyler Irwin on lap four and took the lead for good. Irwin, Robert Foley, Kris Clark and Josh LaPorte completed the unofficial top five in feature one.
            Feature two saw O'Neil's winning streak snapped by LaPorte. LaPorte was able to get to the lead early and run away and hide. O'Neil ran out time and couldn't catch LaPorte's machine. Irwin, Foley and Clark completed the unofficial top five.
            Racing action resumes on September 17 with a post time of 4 p.m. The event will be the Leon Gonyo Memorial event for the Sportsman Modifieds. Durgan's Devil's Bowl Win Creates Tie Entering Asphalt Season Finale

Masterson, McKiernan, Wood visit victory lane; only one caution in four feature races

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil's Bowl Speedway fans were witness to the latest shakeup in a series of back-and-forth swings for the Asphalt Track championship on Saturdaynight, September 3.  Jason Durgan, Josh Masterson, Austin McKiernan, and Zach Wood each picked up NASCAR Whelen All-American Series victories at the fast-paced event, which was sponsored by The Rutland Herald's "Go Rutland" mobile app.  Three of the night's four feature races went flag-to-flag without incident, and only one caution flag slowed the other.

Durgan was untouchable in the Bond Auto Parts Sportsman Modified division's caution-free 30-lap race.  Aided by a low handicap and an up-front starting position after two poor performances in the last three events, the Morrisonville, N.Y., driver got out front early and was on virtual cruise control to sail to his fifth win of the year.  Ron Proctor and Jimmy Ryan battled in the first half before Proctor was able to get by and eventually take the runner-up spot.  Ryan held off a late-closing Vince Quenneville Jr. through lapped traffic to take third place; Quenneville and Joey Roberts completed the top five finishers.

The championship fight is likely to come down to the final lap of the Vermont 200 Weekend season finale on September 10-11.  Through qualifying heats and the main event on Saturday night, Durgan erased defending champ Quenneville's seven-point advantage and the two drivers find themselves in an unofficial deadlock at 733 each with twin 50-lap features next weekend.  Proctor is 42 points back in third and remains an outside threat.

Josh Masterson of Bristol, Vt., was a convincing winner in the non-stop 30-lapper for the Central Vermont Motorcycles Late Model division.  Masterson scored his fifth win of the year and clinched the Crazy Horse Racing "Winner's Circle Challenge" season bonus in the process.  Robert Bryant Jr. finished second, while Chris Bergeron held on to third place.  Steve Miller and Seth Bridge ran 4-5.

Masterson maintained the unofficial point lead entering the 100-lap finale at the Vermont 200 Weekend; Bryant rides in second place, but at just 20 points behind (650-630) is still very much in the hunt.

Rookie Austin McKiernan of Moriah Center, N.Y., surprised himself with his second win of the year and of his career in the 20-lap Rosen & Berger Auto Recyclers Renegade feature.  He held a good lead when the race's only caution flag waved with two laps left, bunching the field for a restart; he successfully held off his father, Jim McKiernan, for the win.  R.J. Germain was a strong third behind the McKiernan duo and ahead of Scott FitzGerald and 14 year-old rookie Alexis Aiken.

Unofficially, Jim McKiernan climbed back on top of the Renegade standings by just two points over FitzGerald (702-700).  The Renegade title will be decided with a 50-lap race next Sunday afternoon.

Another rookie, Georgia, Vt.'s Zach Wood, rebounded from a big wreck last week to win the crash-free 15-lap race for the Portland Glass Mini Stocks.  Wood overtook Garrett Given with five laps left to take the lead and earn his fourth win.  Given tied his season-best effort as the runner-up, with Eric Messier third.  Brad Bertrand and Andrew FitzGerald were next in line.

Messier, a rookie, leads the championship standings with an unofficial margin of 31 points (712-681) on Bertrand, with a 25-lap finale to decide the title next Sunday.

Labor Day Weekend stays busy at Devil's Bowl Speedway on Sunday, September 4, as the 3/10-mile Dirt Track hosts the Sprint Cars of New England, double features for the Sportsman Modifieds, along with Renegades and Mini Stocks; all feature races will be 25 laps.  A fireworks show will also highlight the event.  Special general admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors (62+), $5 for teens (13-17), and free for kids 12 and under.  Gates open at 4:00 p.m., with racing at 6:00 p.m.

-Autodrome Granby. Ce vendredi 2 septembre, trois de nos catégories ont connu leur champion et leur recrue de l'année alors que chez les Sport Compact, le tout se jouera le samedi 17 septembre prochain.

 

Modifié Metalia 75 tours (points de championnat)   

David Hébert #ONE part 12ème. Hébert fait son entrée au top 5 à la relance du 22ème tour où il démarre une bagarre à l'intérieur de Yan Bussière #21. Au tour 31, Kayle Robidoux #46 qui était deuxième depuis le début de la course quitte pour une crevaison. Yan et David se battent alors pour un podium. Au tour 37, le ONE devance le 21. Au tour 43, Mathieu Desjardins #1M qui avait mené l'épreuve depuis le début quitte pour bris de moteur. Il ne reste plus qu'un ennemi à devancer pour Hébert #ONE : François Bernier #1*. David accompli sa mission à la relance du 49ème tour et restera premier jusqu'aux damiers. Les frères Bernier ont tout donné jusqu'à la fin pour déterminer le champion. Steve #25* part 4ème et François 5ème. François se jette tout de suite 4ème puis au 2ème tour 3ème devant Dominic Dufault #63. François demeure 3ème derrière le 21 de Yan Bussière 2ème et le 1M de Mathieu Desjardins 1er jusqu'à l'arrivée de Kayle Robidoux à son bas. À la relance du 21ème tour, François se débarrasse de Yan pour la 3ème place. François devient premier suite aux départs de Robidoux et Desjardins. Comme à son habitude, Bussière est demeuré au top 5 toute la course. 3ème du tour 33 à 52, Yan sera fait 4ème par Steve Bernier #25 qui le dépassera par l'intérieur pour rejoindre son petit frère. À ce tour 52, débuteront les hostilités entre les frères Bernier qui ne changeront rien à leur ordre final. Enfin, Dominic Dufault #63 parti 1er glissera hors du top 5 au tour 7  un dépassement intérieur de Mario Clair #22C. Ils seront dépassés par Hébert #ONE à la relance du tour 22. Les choses se gâteront pour rendre le 63 8ème. À la relance du tour 44, Dominic reviendra 5ème. Dufault ne quittera plus le top 5.

Martin Hébert #16 mène toute la course avec une grande avance de même pour le 33 d'Alex Lajoie qui le suit pour l'entièreté de la finale. Dany Gagné #90 part 5ème. Il fait l'intérieur du 2X de Martin Lessard pour la 4ème place au 3ème tour. Gagné fait pareil au 91 de Matthieu Laramée au 6ème tour pour sa 3ème place finale. Félix Murray #95 part 6ème. Au premier tour, il est 5ème et remis à sa place initiale par Gagné au 2ème tour. Murray s'obstine et revient 5ème au tour 4 en faisant l'intérieur du 2X suivi dans son dépassement par Alexandre Salvas #8. Salvas dépasse Murray pour le top 5 au tour 9 par l'extérieur. Au tour 11, Salvas dépasse le 91 par l'intérieur. Murray #95 l'imite au tour 12. Salvas demeure 4ème devant Murray jusqu'au tour 32 où Murray dépasse par l'intérieur Salvas. Le 8 fort à l'extérieur reprendra sa 4ème au tour 36, mais la cèdera à Félix à deux tours de la fin.

François Adam #01 mènera toute la finale puisque Bruno Cyr #33 parti premier se revire alors que le premier tour n'est pas complété. Adam #01 se lance premier à la reprise suivi du 15 de Guy Viens et du 12 d'Alain Brochu. Le 338 de Pascal Payeur est alors 4ème suivi du 97 de Rolland Hébert. Le 115 de Stéphane Lemire dépasse le 97 pour la 5ème place au tour 3. Au tour 4, le 48 de Jocelyn Roy arrive derrière Lemire. Au 6ème tour, le 115 contourne par l'intérieur le 338, puis Roy fait pareil pour la 4ème au tour 8. Le 115 fait l'intérieur du 15 de Viens au tour 18 pour la 2ème place. Roy le copie 3 tours plus tard pour la 3ème position. La recrue de l'année Dany Voghel #29 15ème. On le voit devenir 7ème au tour 15 en dépassant le 97 de Rolland Hébert. Voghel #29 fait l'intérieur du 08 de Richard Bertrand au tour suivant. Enfin pour sa 5ème place finale, Dany fera le bas du 338 de Payeur au 24ème tour.

Patrick Renaud #00 est premier jusqu'à ce qu'il quitte vers les puits à quatre tours de la fin laissant la victoire à Pierre-Olivier Breault #20. Breault part 10ème. Il se propose 6ème au 1er tour. Le 666 de Kevin-Vilnis est reviré au tour 2 cédant à Breault une position. À la relance, Breault tente l'intérieur de Marc Véronneau #8 sans succès. À la relance du tour 3, Breault fait plutôt l'extérieur du 8 pour la 3ème place derrière Dominik Blais #45. Breault dépasse ce dernier au 5ème tour pour la deuxième place derrière Renaud. Véronneau lui volera la deuxième du tour 9 au tour 13 où Breault lui retire par l'extérieur. Blais se contente de les suivre alors que ça brasse derrière lui. Le 09 de Jean-Philippe Guay, le 40 de Renaud-Karl Quirion et le 7 de Benoit Bérubé se font la lutte de la relance du tour 3 jusqu'au tour 6 pour une place au top 5. Le 151 piloté par Stéphane Marois fait l'extérieur de Quirion au tour 7 alors que Guay est 5 et Bérubé est 6. Au 10ème tour, le 83 de Sébastien Beauregard est 8ème derrière Marois. Au tour 15, Beauregard est rendu 6ème aps avoir dépassé le 151 et le 7. À la reprise du tour 16, le 09 de Guay est lourdement abîmé ainsi que le 83 de Beauregard. À la reprise, le 27e de Solay Morel se jette 4ème, mais il va trop au large et le 7 de Bérubé et le 40 de Quirion en profitent pour entrer au top 5 dans les derniers tours.

Lapcevich Can Move One Step Closer to Championship

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Sept. 6, 2016) – It wasn't supposed to be like this at the start of the 2016 NASCAR Pinty's Series season for Cayden Lapcevich.

 

The 16-year old rookie driver from Grimsby, Ontario, only planned to compete part-time for his family-owned team. But after they found themselves leading the points following early season success, the teenager, along with his father and former series competitor Jeff Lapcevich, decided to keep racing.

 

Thanks to their efforts, they've moved closer to winning their first series championship. After securing a win at Nova Scotia's Riverside International Speedway three weeks ago and a solid third-place showing last weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park – and due to some bad luck for Andrew Ranger – Cayden Lapsevich is closing in on the title.

 

The next step in the process will be at Autodrome St. Eustache this weekend for the Lucas Oil 250. Lapcevich enjoys a 30-point lead over Ranger. In the last two races, Ranger has finished 14th or worse due to mechanical issues while Lapcevich recorded back-to-back podium finishes.

 

Ranger is the defending winner of the Lucas Oil 250 and if he hopes to catch Lapcevich and win his third Pinty's Series championship, he'll need to finish strong and hope Lapcevich doesn't continue his dominating performance on oval tracks. The Josten's Rookie of the Year points leader has a pair of wins, two runner-up finishes and a third-place showing in the five oval-track races on this year's schedule. 

 

The final two races, Saturday at ASE and the finale on Sept. 17 at Kawartha Speedway are also on ovals which bode well for Lapcevich.

Fast Facts:
The Procedure: The maximum starting field is 22 cars, including provisionals. The first 19 cars will have secured starting positions through two-lap time trials while the remaining three spots will be awarded through the provisional process. The race is scheduled for 250 laps (100 miles), and is an impound race with two change tires allotted for the event.

 

The Race: The 2016 NASCAR Pinty's Series schedule will return to Quebec for the final time this season with the Lucas Oil National 250 at Autodrome St-Eustache. The series has also visited Autodrome Chaudiere, Circuit ICAR and Trois-Rivieres in Quebec.

 

The Track: The Autodrome St-Eustache racing complex, located west of Montreal, consists of a .4-mile oval, a road course and a drag strip. There is also a karting track on the premises. The track was founded in 1965 as Fury Speedway de Fabreville, and the current configuration has played host to various types of racing since 1970. The track was purchased by Alan Labrosse prior to the 2008 race season.

 

Pole Winners: The first seven St-Eustache races have produced six different pole winners. Alex Labbe has the track qualifying record at 17.139 seconds (84.019 mph), set in 2014.

 

Race Winners: D.J. Kennington (2010) and Andrew Ranger (2015) are the only defending race winners at ASE scheduled to compete in the Lucas Oil 250 on Saturday.

Lacroix Still Looking for First Oval Win: St-Eustache native Kevin Lacroix has already captured an E3 Spark Plugs Pole Award this season on an oval at Edmonton International Raceway and his best finish to date on an oval is fifth at Sunset Speedway in June. Lacroix finished 16th at ASE his only other NPS start at his home track. With his second win in the past three races, Kevin Lacroix returns to his home track still in contention for the championship as he now sits third in the championship standings 38 points out of first place. Lacroix and Lapcevich have combined to give the rookies four straight wins in the series.

 

Dumoulin Continues Second Half Success: After starting the season with four consecutive finishes outside the top-10 for the first time in his career, Trois-Rivieres, Quebec native L.P. Dumoulin continues his second half resurgence in the NPS. Dumoulin finished second at CTMP for his fourth runner-up finish in the past five races. The strong turnaround has also vaulted him up to fourth in the point standings, just three points behind Lacroix for third place.

 

Owners Championship Battle Remains Close:While Cayden Lapcevich has opened up a little space between him and Ranger for the driver's championship, the points battle has also been shaken up in the owner's standings. Lapcevich's back-to-back podium finishes has enable Fastline Motorsports, owned by Sherri Lapcevich to move up from third to the lead with 415 points. Colin Livingston, owner of the No. 18 driven by Alex Tagliani sits second, 13 points behind.

Southern Modified Racing Series Set For Labor Day Debut At Dillon

CHARLOTTE, NC (September 1) – From its beginnings over 50 years ago, Dillon Motor Speedway has had a close relationship to nearby Darlington Raceway.  From its egg-shape to the fact that it was carved out of the South Carolina dirt by Darlington Raceway founder Harold Brasington, even the seats in Dillon's grandstands once occupied the old covered grandstands at Darlington.  This year, a new tradition begins at Dillon Motor Speedway, less than 24 hours after the checkered flag falls on the Southern 500 at Darlington.  The Tour-type Modifieds of the Southern Modified Racing Series Presented by PASS will make their first ever stop at Dillon Motor Speedway on Labor Day Monday with the green flag set to drop for racing at 5 PM.  The Labor Day Classic 300 will see stock car racing's oldest division compete at Dillon Motor Speedway, along with a 60 lap event for the Supertrucks and 20 laps for the Bangers.

"We're really excited to have the Southern Modifieds coming to Dillon on Labor Day," said Dillon Motor Speedway owner, Ron Barfield.  "These are the fastest cars that will race at Dillon all year and we can't wait to see them in action.  We've had a long relationship with Tom [Mayberry] and PASS and we're glad to continue that with the Labor Day classic."

"The Mayberry Bullett" John Smith comes to Dillon Motor Speedway as the SMRS points leader, riding a wave of momentum that saw him win three consecutive races during the summer.  Brandon Ward has been dominant in qualifying this year and heads to Dillon with years of experience racing there in the PASS South Super Late Models division.  Former Truck Series winner Cale Gale is planning to attend as he looks to make his second SMRS start of 2016.

Walnut Cove, NC's Burt Myers and his younger brother, Jason, have performed well with the SMRS tour this year, but are still looking for their first wins with the series.   Burt just wrapped up his seventh title at Bowman Gray Stadium and will be leading the "Dirty South" team on the trip to Dillon. 

"I am truly blessed to be surrounded by such a wonderful group of people that contribute to our success," says Myers, pilot of the Citrusafe Barbecue Grill Cleaner #1.  "We're looking forward to returning to Dillon Motor Speedway to try and get our first win in the SMRS Tour by PASS this season." 

A strong group of Southern Modified drivers is expected as entries continue to come in daily.  License forms, rules, and entry forms for Dillon Motor Speedway are now posted at SouthernModifiedRacingSeries.com.

The Southern Modified Racing Series Presented By PASS will hit the track on Labor Day Monday at Dillon Motor Speedway, with racing set to start at 5 PM.  Along with the SMRS Tour Modifieds, the Supertrucks and Bangers will also be in action.
