Tremont Family Collects Top Honors at Devil's Bowl Speedway Banquet of Champions

Tremont Jr. crowned champion; Tremont Sr. receives John Bruno Award

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil's Bowl Speedway celebrated its champions and top performers from the 2018 stock car racing season on Saturday, January 26, at the annual Banquet of Champions. A crowd of well over 300 guests honored more than 80 drivers and special award winners during the event, which was held at the Holiday Inn Rutland-Killington in Rutland, Vermont.

The Tremont family of West Sand Lake, New York, received the biggest cheers during the evening; driver Kenny Tremont Jr., was officially crowned for the ninth time in his career as the Devil's Bowl Speedway track champion, while his father and car owner, Ken Tremont Sr., was the recipient of the seventh annual John Bruno Award – the track's highest honor.

Tremont Sr.'s award – given in memory of the late driver and car owner John Bruno – recognized his lifelong commitment to local racing while maintaining high standards of conduct. At age 80, Tremont won his 11^th Devil's Bowl Speedway track championship as a car owner in 2018; along with the titles won with his son driving, he also won championships in 1970 with Joe Messina and in 1977 with Chuck Ely.

Tremont Jr. had a three-win season to capture the Central Vermont Motorcycles Sportsman Modified division championship and the final Vermont State Championship under the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series banner. Tim LaDuc collected runner-up honors ahead of Joey Scarborough, Justin Comes, and Vince Quenneville.

First-year Modified racer Brent Warren of Salisbury, Vermont, collected the championship trophy in the O'Reilly Auto Parts Limited Sportsman division. A three-time race winner, Warren defeated Travis Billington, Paolo Pascarella, Joey Roberts, and Adam Piper.

Chris Murray of Fair Haven, Vermont, took his second consecutive title with a dominant, 10-win season in the Super Stock division, topping Scott FitzGerald, Curtis Condon, Lou Gancarz, and Josh Bussino.

Kaleb Shepard of Vergennes, Vermont, won the Portland Glass Mini Stock crown on the strength of five wins and was followed in the standings by Shawn Moquin, Mike Preston, Johnny Bruno, and Craig Kirby.

Cody O'Brien of Springfield, Vermont, was recognized as the youngest champion in Devil's Bowl Speedway's 52-year history, taking the Friend Construction 500cc Mini Sprint title at age 13. Austin Chaves, Shawn McPhee, Dakota Green, and Joel Belanger were next in line.

Will Hull of Plainfield, Vermont, was crowned the champion of the five-race Sprint Car series, while Demetrios Drellos of Queensbury, New York, earned the four-race 358 Modified title. Brian Whittemore of Pittsford, Vermont, collected his first career championship in the five-race Central Vermont Motorcycles Challenger Series.

Several special awards were also given during the evening including Rookie of the Year, Sportsmanship, and Most Improved Driver laurels. Marty Kelly III took the rookie title in the Sportsman Modified class with similar honors going to Andrew FitzGerald in the Super Stocks, Craig Kirby in the Mini Stocks, and Shawn McPhee in the 500cc Mini Sprints.

Sportsmanship awards – which are determined by a vote of drivers – went to Billy Lussier (Sportsman Modified), Brent Warren (Limited Sportsman), Scott FitzGerald (Super Stock), Johnny Bruno (Mini Stock), and Samantha Mulready (500cc Mini Sprint).

Most Improved Driver plaques – also determined by vote – were presented to Joey Scarborough (Sportsman Modified), Joey Roberts (Limited Sportsman), Andrew FitzGerald (Super Stock), Lynn Denton (Mini Stock), and Cody O'Brien (500cc Mini Sprint).

Also presented during the evening were two special annual honors; the Vergennes Area Rescue Squad received the Award of Excellence for its commitment to the immediate and future success of Devil's Bowl Speedway, and Chief Scorer Charlotte McGinn was given the Dedication Award for her years of effort at the speedway.

Certificates were presented to many drivers on behalf of O'Reilly Auto Parts, Shiley Fabrication, and Central Vermont Motorcycles, and special plaques were also presented on behalf of NASCAR. Bobco Racing Video and Big Al's Photos provided videography and photography, and Heartbeat Entertainment provided sound and lighting.

Les deux pilotes «Ladou Racing» seront en piste pour la dernière saison de l'ASE

C'est avec une fébrilité plus que certaine que les deux pilotes de l'équipe de course «Ladou Racing» Steve Ladouceur, 43 ans, et son fils Frédérik Ladouceur, 16 ans, tous deux de Mirabel, sont en pleine préparation de leurs voitures de course de la division NASCAR Sport-Compacte en vue de la saison 2019 au terme de laquelle le rideau tombera sur les activités de l'Autodrome St-Eustache après plus d'un demi siècle d'activités.

Pour Frédérik, ce sera sa 2^e saison en piste avec sa Honda #51. Pour ce pilote qui n'avait que 15 ans au début de la saison 2018, cette première saison aura servi à se «faire la main» et apprivoiser la Honda préparée par son paternel. Il faut préciser que cette voiture est le premier véhicule qu'il aura piloté, et ce, bien avant d'obtenir son premier permis de conduire. Saison qui s'est tout de même bien déroulée, la prudence et le respect des autres pilotes était de mot d'ordre pour cette première année de compétition. On ne sera donc pas surpris de retrouver en 2019 un pilote un peu plus agressif, avec plus d'assurance et avec le goût de gagner des courses.

Quand au «boss» de l'équipe, Steve Ladouceur, 2018 aura été l'année de son retour en piste après une absence de quelques années pour se consacrer à ses affaires professionnelles,

Le fait de préparer la voiture de son fils lui aura redonné la piqûre qu'il lui fallait pour acheter une seconde voiture, une de ses anciennes, et effectuer un retour en piste, alors que la saison était déjà amorcée.

Courseur un jour, courseur toujours ! Les résultats ont été plus que concluants ! Le vétéran pilote, cummulant à son dossier rien de moins que 6 championnats à St-Eustache (un record de championnats à St-Eustache qu'il détient avec le pilote Sportsman Richard Beauchamp) s'est même permis de chauffer le derrière des frères Miron, les favoris, et champions de la division NASCAR Sport Compacte en 2018 à St-Eustache. Poser la question, c'est y répondre : le but de Steve Ladouceur en 2019 est de remporter son 7^e championnat en cette dernière saison de l'ASE.

Afin d'aligner toute les planètes en sa faveur, c'est «son» numéro 31 avec lequel il a connu tous ses succès que le vétéran pilote multiple champion arborera à nouveau pour cette dernière.

Ce sera donc deux pilotes à surveiller au cours de cette ultime dernière saison de course à St-Eustache. On souhaite la meilleure des chances à nos deux pilotes, ainsi qu'à tous les autres de cette populaire division NASCAR de l'ASE, et, que le meilleur gagne !!

On sait que la saison 2019 se mettra en branle le 19 mai prochain !

Ontario Modifieds Racing Series Rolls Out an Active Agenda for 2019

There's no better time than the middle of a long, cold Canadian winter to talk about another hot season of action for the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series, powered by Torque Builders Inc. After a year of tight on-track battles – resulting in one of the closest point finishes in tour history – teams are getting ready to crank it up again.

"We turned a lot of heads in 2018 and our drivers are looking to pick-up where they left off," said Randy Hollingsworth, who along with Rick Warnes and Bill Pickford make up the OMRS group of officials. "Since this series began in 2010, the emphasis has been on parity and that has helped create a level playing field at every event."

Hollingsworth prepares and maintains his own equipment, as well as the car of his granddaughter, Willow Barberstock. The Stirling, Ontario area runner – who finished 9^th in last year's standings – points to the group's mission statement of powering and preserving affordable open-wheel modified racing for racers, by racers as the mantra that has kept things together for nearly a decade.

6 of the 8 events on the first draft of this year's schedule will be staged at Peterborough Speedway. The Central Ontario venue has been the tour's 'home track' since the closing of Mosport's oval. The 2 remaining dates will be held at Flamboro Speedway, near Hamilton. Hollingsworth says teams are anxious to get back on the track.

"As we saw last year, just a couple of spots in the finishing order of a feature event could make a big difference in the championship standings," according to Hollingsworth. "Our bunch is always working hard to get their equipment ready for each race and give the fans a great show at every event."

Over Half a Century of Saturday Night Thrills at Peterborough Speedway

Short track stock car racing is alive and well at Canada's Toughest 3^rd of a Mile Paved Oval.

Opening night is still more than 6 months away, but the Peterborough Speedway promotional team is already hard at work putting together plans for the upcoming schedule. Track owner and promoter J.P. Josiasse says that this is a very busy time of year.

"Heading into our 52^nd consecutive season of operation, we want to make sure everything is ready when our drivers and teams roll through the pit gates," Josiasse said. "Everyone puts their off-season focus toward getting things prepared to take the years first green flag and we have to make sure that our effort matches theirs. In 2018, we had a great turnout in each of our regular divisions and all indications point to the same thing happening when we kick-off the new schedule."

In addition to the 5 weekly hometown classes, Josiasse says the tight, tricky bullring on Mount Pleasant Road is expecting to see the same touring series – including the Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup, Ontario Pro Challenge, Ontario Outlaw Super Late Models, Can-Am TQ Midgets and more – back on the 2019 agenda. Fans can also expect to see regular appearances by the Ontario Modifieds Racing Series and the Eastern Ontario Legends when the new season gets rolling on the Victoria Day holiday weekend.

"Our main goal has always been to give the people what they want," said J.P. Josiasse. "The comments our staff gets at the track and through our Facebook and Twitter social media platforms helps us put together a winning schedule. With that in mind, we've decided to add the popular OSCAAR Hot Rod Series to the line-up for the 27^th running of the Autumn Colours Classic and will likely be announcing even more changes as the 2019 season opener gets closer."

TORONTO, ON // JANUARY 9, 2019 • The fifth annual Motorama Custom Car & Motorsports Expo takes to Toronto's International Centre March 8, 9 & 10. At over 330,000 square feet, the 2019 edition of the biggest show of its kind, in Canada, will be even bigger and more entertaining than ever!

In addition to the established automotive and racing content on display at the massive venue located across from Toronto's Pearson Airport, this year's Motorama show will feature an all-new room called "Motorama Mayhem… in the Backroom."

Celebrating the 'rockabilly' lifestyle and traditional hot rods and custom cars, the 30,000 square foot Hall 3 will be active all weekend long. Mayhem is being spearheaded by Brandon Roberts, who is a member of the Lead Kings car club and one of the individuals behind the popular Jalopy Jam Up, which takes place at the Rockton (ON) Fairgrounds each August.

"We're two months out from putting on our fifth Motorama show and this is going to be the best one yet," said co-promoter David Weber. "Gary Challice and Bob Sumak are assembling an incredible assortment of vehicles for Hall 1, most of which are being debuted at Motorama. And at last count, there will be 15 different car clubs represented throughout the show, in addition to the hundreds of individuals who are entering their own vehicles. We'll also have a huge Mustang tribute and several amazing cars from SEMA that have never been seen in Canada before."

As always, Canadian motorsports will be a major component of Motorama, with most of the top tracks, series and sanctioning bodies represented with booths and racing vehicles. The popular Short Track & Drag Racing Night of Champions, presented by Stoneridge Specialty Insurance, will take place live on the Rust-Oleum Stage on Saturday, March 9. This incredibly unique ceremony honours over 100 of Canada's championship-winning oval and straight-line racers in one place, at one time.

And throughout the weekend, racers, promoters and officials representing the full spectrum of Canadian racing are prominently included in the on-stage discussions and presentations.

Returning for a fourth year is the Spring Fever: Modified Cars & Culture room (Hall 4). Managed by Kristine Hill, SF4 is dedicated to modified cars and the culture that surrounds them. Featuring top winning show cars from Ontario and beyond, this event offers cash prizes and numerous class and specialty awards. Spring Fever also debuts many fresh builds, as competitors show off what they've been working on all winter.

Throughout the show, attendees will find an interesting assortment of parts and equipment vendors, as well as souvenir, art and collectible sellers. Several automotive and racing celebrities will also be on hand to meet showgoers, sign autographs, pose for pictures and participate in on-stage discussions and awards presentations.

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (January 16, 2019) – NASCAR has named industry veteran Jay Fabian as its Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Managing Director.

A respected leader within the garage area, Fabian previously served as the managing director of technical integration at NASCAR, where he oversaw post-race technical inspection at the NASCAR Research and Development Center in Concord, N.C. A consistent presence in all three NASCAR national series garages, Fabian's versatile career has included roles as an over-the-wall crew member, a crew chief and, now, the managing director of NASCAR's premier series.

"With his vast experience across the industry, Jay Fabian is uniquely suited for this position," said Steve O'Donnell, NASCAR executive vice president and chief racing development officer. "Jay's steady leadership and depth of knowledge are tremendous assets that will greatly benefit the series and all of NASCAR."

Prior to joining NASCAR in April 2016, the Everett, Penn., native worked at Michael Waltrip Racing. During his 10-year tenure, MWR teams qualified for the NASCAR Playoffs in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

In addition to having a booth in the Hall 1B 'racing area' of Motorama, where its staff can connect with the many tracks, series and racers who make up its prime market, the Ancaster, Ontario-based company is returning as the title sponsor of the Stoneridge Short Track and Drag Racing Night of Champions at Motorama.

These popular awards presentations take place on The Rust-Oleum Stage in Hall 2. Starting late in the afternoon on Saturday, March 9, more than 125 short track and straight-line racers – all of whom won full-season points championships in 2018 – are expected to be honoured in front of their fans, families, crews, supporters and peers. Having so many Canadian track and series champions celebrated in one location, at one time, is a unique event in the world of racing.

While Stoneridge is broadening the range of risks it covers, the Motorama show is a natural fit for the company as it offers an ideal opportunity to interact with its core constituency. Although it's entering its fifth year under the Stoneridge banner, the company's principals have been involved in the motorsports insurance business for much longer than that.

New England's biggest dirt race will be even bigger in 2019

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – The biggest dirt track race in New England has a new date: Labor Day weekend. The second annual $10,000-to-win Interstate All Battery Center Vermont 200 Weekend at Devil's Bowl Speedway has been moved to the late-summer holiday on Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1, in order to better accommodate traveling fans and race teams – and to allow for an even bigger party atmosphere.

Though the event was a success in 2018, the format for the weekend has been retooled to allow for a shorter, two-division program on Sunday. The GM "602" crate engine Sportsman Modified division will once again be the Sunday headliner with all qualifying and the 200-lap main event held that day. The Sprint Cars of New England tour will also be in action on Sunday with its first Vermont 200 Weekend appearance.

The Saturday card features Devil's Bowl's Super Stock, Mini Stock, and 500cc Mini Sprint classes, along with a new "Win-And-You're-In" event for the Limited Sportsman division that guarantees the winner a starting spot in Sunday's 200-lap race. Sportsman drivers also have the option for extra track time on Saturday by competing in the Ron Casey Memorial Non-Winners Shootout. Racing on Saturday is followed by Devil's Bowl's famous annual pig roast, bonfire party, and fireworks, which draws hundreds of guests and weekend campers.

Like every event at Devil's Bowl Speedway, any driver is eligible to compete in the Vermont 200 regardless of past racing experience; in 2019, however, a $2,000 bonus has been posted for the winner if he or she is a regular weekly Sportsman competitor at their local track. A diverse mix of Sportsman drivers and outside invaders kept fans thrilling over the action up front all race long before Brett Hearn of Sussex, N.J., took the win, earning more than $13,000 in purse money and bonuses.

"The Vermont 200 was great in its first year, but we took notes all weekend and started planning changes immediately," Devil's Bowl Speedway promoter Mike Bruno said. "We have taken steps to cut the Sunday show back to four or five hours at most, and moving the race to Labor Day weekend should make it easier for people to travel or camp overnight with the holiday on Monday. We're always learning and listening to our fans and racers, and we will make the Vermont 200 even bigger and better for them."

Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship Purse Revealed for DIRTcar Northeast Divisions

CONCORD, NC – January 11, 2019 – Since 1957, Hoosier Racing Tire has developed and manufactured racing tires for thousands of race cars. DIRTcar Northeast is proud to carry their name and logo throughout the Northeast and Canada on Big-Block Modifieds, 358 Modifieds, Sportsman Modifieds, and Pro Stocks at dozens of race tracks. DIRTcar Northeast is proud to announce that in 2019, at the Racing Tire will hand out $36,750 to the top weekly racers at the end of the season.

The Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship takes into account each and every DIRTcar Northeast sanctioned weekly show and Series race for all four divisions of racing. The points standings are calculated by taking each driver's top 16 finishes. Drivers do not need to do anything except race at DIRTcar sanctioned race tracks and Series races to be eligible. $36,750 will be awarded at the DIRTcar Northeast Banquet at the end of the year. The Big-Block Modified winner receives $5,000 while the top scoring 358 Modified pilot takes home $3,000. Meanwhile the Sportsman Modified and Pro Stock winners receive $1,000 each.

Six speedways are awarding points for the Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship for DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds. Albany-Saratoga Speedway, host of the $11,111 to-win Big Show XI, returns to action with weekly racing, featuring the likes of Brett Hearn, Kenny Tremont Jr., and Ronnie and Marc Johnson. Meanwhile at Brewerton Speedway, Billy Decker returns to Gypsum Racing to compete weekly, as well as on the Super DIRTcar Series tour. In 2018, Land of Legends Raceway's impressive Big-Block Modified field boasted the Super DIRTcar Series top two in points, Matt Sheppard and Erick Rudolph. Rudolph edged out Sheppard in points at the historic Canandaigua oval last season.

The massive temple of speed, Lebanon Valley Speedway, saw Brett Hearn, Kenny Tremont Jr., and Ronnie Johnson battle it out in the top three, and 2019 is expected to be another highly competitive race season. Rex King Jr. dominated the 2018 points at Lernerville Speedway over second place, 15-time Track Champion Brian Swartzlander, who was inducted into the DIRT Hall of Fame in 2018. The legendary Weedsport Speedway has six Big-Block Modified dates scheduled in 2019, including three Super DIRTcar Series clashes. The six races will be counted towards the Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship points. All-in-all, $16,400 will be awarded to the top 15 drivers for their best 16 weekly finishes.

A healthy pipeline of talent has bolstered the already highly competitive 358 Modifieds across the Northeast and Canada. Twelve tracks are awarding Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship points in 2019. The competition will be fierce, as the top 10 drivers will have to fight over an $11,250 purse with their strongest 16 finishes. Last season, Steve Bernier topped Chris Raabe and Billy Dunn, but you could've thrown a blanket over them, as they were only separated by eight points. Every lap, every position, and every win is important at all DIRTcar sanctioned speedways.

Race fans can catch all the Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship DIRTcar 358 Modified action at Plattsburgh Airborne Speedway, Brockville Ontario Speedway, Can-Am Speedway, Cornwall Motor Speedway, Autodrome Drummond, Fulton Speedway, Autodrome Granby, Le RPM Speedway, Merrittville Speedway, Mohawk Int'l Raceway, Ransomville Speedway, and Utica-Rome Speedway. DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds compete weekly at 21 race tracks. The division is perfect for young racers moving up the DIRTcar ladder, and for veterans racing within a budget. Safety and parity are paramount to the success of DIRTcar Sportsman Modified racing, and those factors have pushed the division to become the most popular form of auto racing in the Northeast. Quebec native Martin Pelletier finished on top of the Hoosier Racing Tire Weekly Championship points last season, ahead of Dave Marcucilli who is moving up to 358 and Big-Block Modifieds for 2019. More drivers to benefit from new program at Vermont track

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Devil's Bowl Speedway has taken the next big step forward in its progression by announcing today that it will carry its own sanctioning and licensing for the 2019 season. The move will better position the half-mile Vermont dirt track for both the present and future and is the latest in a recent series of major improvements to both the physical property and infrastructure of the business.

Promoter Mike Bruno said that the move is the culmination of several years' worth of dialogue with drivers and teams, careful data analysis, and an overall review of auto racing industry trends and projections, both locally and nationally.

Devil's Bowl Speedway has recently been part of the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program. Bruno has worked to guarantee that in NASCAR's absence the facility will be able to remain among the industry leaders in insurance coverage for participants while also providing a healthy championship point fund.

More drivers will receive post-season point fund money in 2019 under the new structure. The crate-engine "602" Sportsman Modified division will continue to be the headliner with a point fund paying $5,000 to the champion and bonuses to eligible drivers inside the top 15 in final point standings. The Limited Sportsman, Super Stock, and Mini Stock classes will reward the eligible drivers among the top 10 finishers, and the 500cc Mini Sprint class will offer a point fund payout for the first time with the top five drivers eligible.

Membership license fees will be similar to – or less than, in some cases – the previous fees. Competition licenses for the Sportsman Modified division will be $175 through March 31, or $200 beginning April 1. Driver licenses for the four support classes, as well as car owner licenses for all divisions, will be $100 until March 31 and $125 after. Crew member licenses will be $85 until March 31 and $100 after. License applications are available now and can be requested by emailing devilsbowlspeedway@gmail.com.

New for 2019 will be a single-day membership license for drivers. The single-day option is just $25 for Sportsman drivers or only $15 in the support divisions, with no cap on the number of single-day purchases. All drivers, car owners, and crew who are officially licensed members will be covered by the speedway's insurance protection in the case of accident during an event, with incident coverage matching the previous level.

"We are very excited to be an independent track in 2019," Bruno said. "I thank NASCAR and specifically Kevin Nevalainen for the help in building our program for the past seven years, but our business model has seen major changes in the last two years and our plans have evolved. We've been approached to join other organizations as well, but the time is right for Devil's Bowl to stand on its own and to try something different."

Bruno is positive that the changes will benefit the speedway in both the short and long term.

"We've asked our drivers what they want, and we've also listened to suggestions from the ones who race with us just once or twice a year, and we think that we've found a good balance with our new program," Bruno said. "We're also going to continue to work with other tracks and sanctioning bodies in the area to help improve racing overall. We are extremely positive about the future of Devil's Bowl."

The full 2019 schedule of events is expected to be released in early-to-mid-January. The 2018 season will come to its official close at the Banquet of Champions at the Holiday Inn Rutland-Killington in Rutland, Vt., on Saturday, January 26.
