Dates Announced In 2010 Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship Series

Posted Monday, Nov 30, 2009

Weedsport, NYNovember 30, 2009 — By Tom Skibinski, DIRTcar Racing Northeast Series PR Director

A trio of high-paying 150-lappers for Small-Block point chasers highlights the Hoosier Tire-VP Racing Fuels Mr. DIRTcar 358-Modified Championship Series currently locked into place for the 2010 race season.

Back-to-back blockbuster shows at autodromes Granby and Drummond in September not only offer each winner a $10,000 top prize, a $5,000 bonus will be tacked on for any driver able to sweep the weekend DIRTcar doubleheader in Quebec. Returning stateside, the traditional Super DIRT Week spectacular on the Syracuse Mile in October remains the richest event of the year for 358-Modified teams, with first-place awarded a $20,000 jackpot.

“We’re just one weekend away from completing the entire schedule, giving Small-Block racers plenty of time to make their own plans for next season,” remarked Joe Skotnicki, DIRTcar Racing Northeast Director of Competition & Track Sanctioning. “It’s already solid with more focus put on weekly competition during the summer before going full speed ahead after Labor Day.”

Fulton Speedway leads off the ’10 agenda with a Big-Block/Small-Block tour twin-bill on April 9-10, followed a week later by Can-Am Motorsports Park’s own Mr. DIRTcar twin tour special featuring 358-Modified and Sportsman on April 17. Then its off to Canada as Merrittville Speedway in Thorold, Ontario (May 24) and Autodrome Edelweiss in Hull, Quebec (July 1) host the remaining summer shows.

Small-Block teams kick off Labor Day Weekend north of the border at Cornwall Motor Speedway (Sept. 5) with the lucrative Granby/Drummond double taking center stage Sept. 10-11. Rolling Wheels Raceway Park (Sept. 24) closes out the month the final Friday in September.

October opens with successive Super DIRT Week specials scheduled at Can-Am (Oct. 6), Brewerton Speedway (Oct. 7) and Rolling Wheels (Oct. 8) before the New State Fairgrounds attracts the top Small-Block stars in the Northeast for a fourth straight show featuring the $20,000-to-win 150-mile main on Oct. 9.

The curtain drops Oct. 16 when Brockville Ontario Speedway hosts the 2010 Mr. DIRTcar 358 finale as part of the 2nd Annual DIRTcar Northeast Fall Nationals, with Big-Block Modified, Sportsman and Pro Stock classes filling the autumn card in the City of the Thousand Islands.

Competition Director Joe Skotnicki can be contacted at 704/796-4566 to field questions and address any concerns regarding all 2010 series schedules as DIRTcar Northeast’s 35th consecutive season of racing gets underway.

More news and information about the 358-Modified tour can be found at www.dirtcar.com, which also includes notes on Hoosier-VP Mr. DIRTcar Championships for Sportsman and Pro Stock divisions. SERIE LUCAS OIL SS QUEBEC AND LES ENTREPRISES M.P. ROY INC. REACH AGREEMENT

For Immediate Release
MPR – 20091130-1

Saint-Laurent, QC – Les Entreprises M.P. Roy Inc., a Canadian distributor and reseller of motorsports electronics equipment, announced today that they have expanded their agreement with the Lucas Oil Super Sportsman Quebec Series sanctioning body to become the Official and exclusive provider of communications and electronic scoring equipment for the series.

When Officials or teams use two-way radios to communicate between themselves or when drivers use one-way radio receivers to listen to instructions from Series’ Officials they will be using equipment provided by Les Entreprises M.P. Roy Inc.

In addition, as cars race around tracks at speeds averaging 100 mph in sub 15 seconds lap times, Officials will rely on an electronic timing and scoring system also provided by Les Entreprises M.P. Roy Inc. to score events.

“We’re proud to establish a new relationship with Les Entreprises M.P. Roy,” said André Poulin, President and co-director of competition of the Lucas Oil Super Sportsman Series. “Their customer service, accessibility and expertise have become widely known across the sport, and they carry only the best products in the industry at great prices. I know we can continue to count on them to serve our new needs like they did for the last three years.”

For the past three years Les Entreprises M.P. Roy Inc., an authorized dealer for Racing Electronics of Concord, North Carolina and Innovative Spectator Products of Gainesville, Georgia, has been providing series official with Racing Electronics two-way radio systems and drivers with RACEceiver one-way radio receivers while sponsoring the Hard Charger Award.

At each of the Series’ feature races the driver who passed the most cars in the feature race receives the Hard Charger Award and a cash prize presented by Les Entreprises M.P. Roy Inc., contingent to proper display of the company’s decal.

“The Lucas Oil Super Sportsman Quebec Series has had tremendous growth over the last three years and we are proud to have been a partner since day one” said Marc Patrick Roy, President and CEO of Les Entreprises M.P. Roy Inc. “The use of electronic scoring and the introduction of two-way communications equipment for their newly created Elite driver division are yet other examples of how the André Poulin, his Officials and his group of racers are not satisfied with status quo and constantly strive to innovate, in an effort to position themselves as the leading touring series in the province of Quebec.”

Lucas Oil Super Sportsman Series and Les Entreprises M.P. Roy Inc. have settled on the use of MYLAPS timing and scoring system and technology (formerly known as AMB-IT). As part of the solution, each race car will be equipped with a MYLAPS electronic transponder, a computer will record the exact time each car goes over the scoring loop.

“We felt and so did our drivers the improved accuracy an electronic timing and scoring system brings was a just what the Series needs as part of its ongoing improvement plan,” said André Poulin. “The introduction of optional two-way radio systems in our Elite Division is going to allow our group to take advantage and tame the technology without having to move up in ranks and deal with all of the other expenses.”

Les Entreprises M.P. Roy Inc. was able to propose the MYLAPS timing and scoring solution to the Lucas Oil Super Sportsman Quebec Series as a result of a recent agreement reached to distribute, sell and support the MYLAPS line of products in Canada.

Speedway supporters rallying before council meeting

Source: http://forterietimes.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=2201205

Supporters of the Canadian Motor Speedway are hoping the Town of Fort Erie will give the project its full endorsement at Monday's council-in-committee meeting.

If approved by the local government, the project will still need to be given the green light by the regional government at its next meeting on Dec. 9th.

Normally, council meetings are held in the council chambers at town hall but because a large crowd is anticipated, the Leisureplex banquet hall will be the venue. Before the council session begins, a group of supporters will be found at the Quarter Mile Restaurant and Sports Bar on Garrison Road, who plan on marching to the meeting in hopes of seeing council voting in favour of the speedway, to be built on 823 acres of land adjacent to the QEW between Bowen and Gilmore Roads. To date, $150 million has been spent by the project's investor, Emirates Consulting, a subsidiary of the Kuwaiti Investment Bank. The build-out could be expanded to about $400 million considering the commercial, industrial and educational uses the facility will have. McMaster University has agreed to build and operate a research and development centre at the site if it is approved by both the municipal and regional governments by the end of next week.

Ed Moody, who refers to himself as a "retired motorsports historian" says this project is what the Canadian auto-racing industry has been waiting for. Although he has just recently moved to Greater Fort Erie, he feels his new place of residence will become an area visited by tourists even more than what it already is.

"If this speedway is approved, there will be a lot of people attracted to the area," said Moody, who spent many years as a freelance motor sports writer for Sun Media and worked at Mosport Speedway in Bowmanville since the 1960's.

He feels there isn't enough people addressing the "mistruths" that have appeared in local newspapers. One submission suggests there will be out of control tailgate parties that will continue until the early hours of the morning after a race event. He finds this hard to believe and says "someone is confusing a football game with a car race."

Reminiscing about the Crystal Beach Amusement Park era, Moody said this was a time when people travelled from all over Ontario and parts of the U.S. to visit Fort Erie. He feels there hasn't been anything to attract people from outside the area other than the Fort Erie Racetrack, since the Crystal Beach park closed in 1989. He referred to the historic family venue as a reason for people to visit Fort Erie for entertainment. At the same time, he feels it was also a reason for residents to stay in Fort Erie because of the employment opportunities it offered, especially for young students hoping to fund their post-secondary education.

"That's exactly what is going to come with this speedway," he said.

Mayor Doug Martin made a similar comment, saying if the speedway is approved many students will be able to find employment right in their backyard, saving up for their futures.

"This is a place for students to work in the summer to save enough money to go to university," said Martin.

The mayor will not be present at the meeting as he will be travelling to Switzerland for a discussion on refugees, hosted by the United Nations. Even though he will not be there, he says it is still very important to "hear from everybody," which includes people opposed to the project, people in support of it and those who will be directly impacted by it.

"And you also have those looking at this as an opportunity for employment while putting Fort Erie on the map," said Martin.

As of Tuesday afternoon, 15 people have registered to make a delegation at the council-in-committee meeting. Anyone wishing to join this list, in opposition or in support of the project have until Monday at 3 p.m. to speak at the meeting which will be chaired by acting mayor and Ward 1 Coun. Sandy Annunziata.

The rally at the Quarter Mile is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. and will include a free BBQ for those in attendance.

A Facebook group at has also been an outlet for showing support with almost 4,000 users of the social networking site as members.

ACT LATE MODELS TO OPEN NEW DEVIL'S BOWL SPEEDWAY IN 2010

For Immediate Release - ACT – 120109-57

Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Models from Thunder Road will open the newly paved Devil’s Bowl Speedway in West Haven, Vermont on Sunday, May 23, 2010. Track promoter Jerry Richards said, “This is going to be a great way to bring the new asphalt to life at Devil’s Bowl. It has been over 30 years since the track was asphalt, but we think having Thunder Road’s Late Models on the ½ mile will certainly give our fans at the “Bowl” a great opening event.”

Thunder Road Late Models will be joined by some of the regular ACT U.S. Touring teams for this grand opening of the original Champlain Valley Racing Association (CVRA), which was founded by legendary promoter CJ Richards.

Tom Curley, the President of ACT and managing partner of Thunder Road said, “When we learned that the “Bowl” was being returned to asphalt we really wanted our teams to be a part of it. Most of the Thunder Road Late Models have raced various tracks on the ACT, and this just seemed like a great fit. We have no races scheduled at Thunder Road from May 2 until Memorial Day weekend, so I am sure there will be great support from the Late Model teams.” When asked if there would be some ACT U.S. Touring teams in attendance, Curley concluded, “I am sure there will be a number of teams from Chittenden County and central Vermont who will want to give Devil’s Bowl a try, and this change the CVRA is going through is something ACT wants to support.” The sister track of Devil’s Bowl, Albany Saratoga Speedway, will host an ACT event on April 25th at the newly paved 4/10ths mile speedplant.

Some of the Northeast’s biggest names in Late Model racing are expected to attend this historic event at Devil’s Bowl. Defending Thunder Road Champion Jean-Paul Cyr, who started his Modified racing career at Devil’s Bowl, along with three-time Thunder Road Champion Cris Michaud, will bring his potent Ford to the ½ mile. “I think this is really great,” said ACT star Brent Dragon from Milton, VT. “My father (Beaver Dragon) and uncle (Bobby Dragon) were both a part of the five-track Northern NASCAR circuit back in the mid ‘70’s, and I am really excited that we have a “long track” back in Vermont”, said Dragon. Brent Dragon is noted for his dominant performances on most of the long tracks where the ACT participates.

SpeedSTR Series Continues Steady Growth Headed Into 2010 Season.

Pictured above is one of the new 2010 Canadian SpeedSTR's. The cars

are identical to the US version, the only difference is the name of the

series, which in Canada goes under the name of RevStar.

Myerstown, PA - November 25, 2009 - As the SpeedSTR Series starts to look ahead to 2010 it appears that it will continue to see steady growth. In this tough economical time, the SpeedSTR series is just what the serious racer is looking for. Rich Tobias of Speedway Entertainment has put together this race vehicle to help the racer have a division that actually makes business sense, the cars are very affordable and they have a solid purse structure. The SpeedSTR gives you the racer just what your fellow competitor has. Now it is up to the teams and the drivers to make their STR's faster than the competition, not who can out spend who. The series began in 2008 with 13 STR's seeing racing action, it grew to just shy of 30 cars in 2009 and 40 STR's appears to be well in reach for the 2010 racing season.

We have had allot of interest throughout the 2009 season stated Tobias. The one thing I kept hearing is "home track". We are currently putting together what we will call our "Home Track Series", Bruce Rogers of Grandview Speedway has given us 6 - 8 shows at his Speedway, and we are close to putting something together with Big Diamond and New Egypt Speedway. First, to get a Speedway to bring you in as a weekly program is tough, but most importantly I am a strong believer that by running multiple tracks will develop a much better racer. When you compete at the same venue week after week you get good there but struggle when you travel. This "Home Track Series" provides our racers with multiple venues with completely different characteristics, yet all are within a reasonable home track tow. This will give the serious racer a platform to hone his or her skills with minimal travel. We will also be looking to put together a couple 50 lap features as well.

The STR's will of course still have their touring series in place. The touring series will be going back to most of the facilities they competed in 2009 on both the Dirt and the Asphalt/Concrete. The historic Oswego Speedway will be back on the 2010 Schedule with a National date set for early July. The STR's will also be making an appearance at premier facilities such as Weedsport, Black Rock, and Dun Hill Speedways.

The SpeedSTR's are bringing back racing history. Racing of today has lost the rivalries between the Dirt specialists and the Pavement specialists. Back in the day you would see Richie Evans (pavement specialist) show up at the dirt track to compete against Gerald Chamberlain (dirt specialist) and of course Chamberlain would have the advantage, but when the two did battle on the pavement the advantage went back to Evans. We just don't have those rivalries anymore on both the dirt and the pavement in the North East. The only other place it exists is in USAC with the likes of David Steele and Bobby East (pavement specialists) battling it out with the likes of Dave Darland and JJ Yeley (dirt specialists).

The SpeedSTR's are basically the only series in our area that gives the racer that type of platform to show the world what kind of drivers we have in the North East. Imagine the crowds that would gather to see Jimmy Blewett and Teddy Christopher battling it out with Brett Hearn and Craig VonDohren. This is what Tobias envisioned when developing the SpeedSTR's two years ago.

Stay tuned for our 2010 schedule

NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY ANNOUNCES THE RETURN OF THE AMERICAN CANADIAN TOUR INVITATIONAL IN SEPTEMBER 2010

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                        ACT-112509-55

Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour (ACT) and New Hampshire Motor Speedway have reached an agreement for the Second Annual ACT Invitational to take place at the only superspeedway in the Northeast on Saturday, September 18, 2010.

“The overwhelming success of the inaugural ACT Invitational this past September made it an easy decision to have the short track stars of our region return again next September,” said Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and general manager of New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Thirty-six teams from all six New England states, Quebec, and Ontario took part in the inaugural ACT Invitational during the SYLVANIA 300 weekend this past September.  One of the largest Saturday crowds in the 19-year history of the speedway was treated to an action packed tripleheader of racing featuring the American Canadian Tour Late Models, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.

“We really thought things went great at New Hampshire Motor Speedway during the first ACT Invitational last season,” said Tom Curley, President of ACT.  “I would expect things to be even more fun for our teams and fans in 2010.  We will add some laps to the event, and are discussing the possibility of allowing a tire change during the event.  We will also add some positions to the starting field.”

Teams were qualified for the first Invitational by winning ACT and ACT Castrol Series events in the United States, Quebec, and Ontario.  Additional teams qualified through special events such as the Oxford Plains Speedway TD BANK 250 in Oxford, Maine, and the Vermont Governor’s Cup at Thunder Road Speedbowl in Barre, Vt.  Individual track champions from ACT affiliated tracks were also invited to attend the inaugural Invitational.

“We plan to change some of the qualifying procedures as we continue to make this one of the most unique and exciting short track events in the country,” said Curley.

2009 ACT Champion, Brian Hoar from Williston, Vt. said, “It is no secret that New Hampshire Motor Speedway is my very favorite track of all time.  I can’t tell you how happy I am that we are going back.  They tell me Goodyear is making a tire for us just for New Hampshire, and that will be a good thing.  I really think I could have been in the battle to the great finish that Eddie (MacDonald), Nick Sweet, and the kid from Ontario (16 year-old Brandon Watson) had going on at the end of the race.  But I just ran out of tire. I now know what one of my goals for the RPM Motorsports team is going to be in 2010-- I can’t wait.”

Race fans from throughout the short tracks of the Northeast will now need to circle the weekend of September 17-19, 2010.  The first of the qualifying events for the 2010 ACT Invitational will be held just down the road from New Hampshire Motor Speedway at the Lee USA Speedway in Lee, N.H.  Over 50 teams are expected to try and capture the first invitation at the opening 150-lap event on Sunday, April 18, 2010.

FAZZT Race Team Places Key Personnel for 2010 Season

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FAZZT Race Team Places Key Personnel for 2010 Season

INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 19, 2009) – The FAZZT Race Team is continuing to take shape with the addition of key personnel. Chief Operating Officer Jim Freudenberg and Team General Manager Rob Edwards have completed the hiring in several key positions in preparation for the 2010 IZOD IndyCar series season.

The team was formed in July of this year as a partnership between Andre Azzi (Azzi Race Division), ATG and Jim Freudenberg and Jason Priestley (Rubicon Sports Agency) with Alex Tagliani slated to drive the #77 entry for the 2010 season. Immediately after forming the team, COO Jim Freudenberg hired Rob Edwards as the General Manager and Rob set about the task of building the team. “Andre has been tremendous in pulling together the assets for FAZZT Race Team,” said Freudenberg. “As of this week, our equipment is paid for and scheduled for delivery, the shop build-out is progressing nicely, so it was really time to get our key people in place and start getting the cars built and ready for our test in early January.”

The first order of business for Edwards was to hire a Crew Chief and he tapped longtime Patrick Racing and KV Racing veteran Don Oldenburg for the position. Oldenburg will bring many years of experience to the organization and will continue to build his crew over the coming weeks. Joining Oldenburg will be Chief Race Engineer Allen MacDonald. MacDonald joins the team after a successful eight year stint with Andretti Green Racing where he served as Chief Engineer for Dario Franchitti among other notable drivers. “We have been very fortunate to be able to finalize a number of our key personnel over the last few weeks,” said Edwards. “We have tried to be patient enough to get the right people, but to also be ready to roll by our first test in early January.”

In addition to the crew in Indianapolis key positions for the technical research and design division that is based in Montreal have to be filled. Edwards has hired respected development engineer Alex Timmermans to manage and oversee the testing program that will be based at the team’s facility in Montreal.

On the commercial side, Freudenberg has hired Jana Watt to oversee all public relations and media components. The sales team consists of John Stewart in Indianapolis, OOMPH Events in Alberta Canada and Genevieve Biron in Quebec Canada. Valerie Smay will be the teams’ Office Manager and Terry Thompson will handle the teams’ hospitality program.

The team is expecting delivery of all four of its Dallara chassis in the next week. Their first on-track shakedown is scheduled for Homestead-Miami Speedway and Sebring Raceway in January. The team also has plans to announce its sponsors and car livery in January at the famed Montreal Auto Show.

About FAZZT Race Team: The FAZZT Race Team was formed in July 2009 as a partnership between Andre Azzi of the Azzi Race Division, ATG, and Jim Freudenberg and Jason Priestley of the Rubicon Sports Agency. The team will field a full-time IndyCar Series team beginning in 2010. The team has four Dallara chassis and has signed driver Alex Tagliani drive the #77 entry. Andre Azzi, a Montreal based entrepreneur is the teams’ Chief Executive Officer and motorsports veteran Jim Freudenberg is the teams’ Chief Operating Officer. The team will be housed in a 25,000 ft. race shop on the north side of Indianapolis with a second facility that will house their Research and Design division in Montreal.
