Sunoco Driven Challenge Offers Unique Nationwide Competition For Drivers

NAPLES, M.E. (October 14) - The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) has announced its participation in the Sunoco Driven Challenge for both the North and South Super Late Model divisions. Sunoco and Joe Gibbs Racing have partnered to develop the Sunoco Driven Challenge where drivers across the country have a chance to compete for a unique opportunity to test with one of NASCAR’s top teams.

“Sunoco has been with the Pro All Stars Series since day one,” said Tom Mayberry, President of PASS. “We are proud to be associated with the Sunoco Driven Challenge, Sunoco and Joe Gibbs Racing for this great opportunity for the racing community.”

Drivers in five qualifying grassroots racing series will compete in a uniquely developed points system throughout the 2012 season to determine one overall winner. The winner will receive a test in a JGR NASCAR K&N Pro Series car at the conclusion of the season, a tour of JGR’s Huntersville, NC headquarters and a meeting with JGR President, J.D. Gibbs.

There will also be an opportunity for one lucky fan and a guest to join in the winning driver’s experience with an all expenses paid trip to Charlotte, NC where they will tour the JGR race shop, meet J.D. Gibbs, and attend the test session. Prizes will also include Joe Gibbs Driven oil products, Sunoco fuel, and the opportunity to attend a driving school. The consumer promotion will begin in 2012.

“Sunoco is committed to fueling victories both on and off the track,” said Cynthia Archer, Sunoco’s vice president of marketing. “The Joe Gibbs Racing partnership helps strengthen that commitment by fueling the dreams of the next generation of drivers while also rewarding one lucky fan.”

To be eligible drivers must be entered in one of the following grassroots series: PASS North, PASS South, CRA, ASA Midwest, or SRL Southwest. Each week points will be totaled based upon a driver’s finish in their respective Series’ race and once each Series concludes its season, a winner will be determined.

All participating drivers will be evaluated based on a standardized points system with the top 10 drivers in each race, as well as the pole sitter, earning points. Points will then accumulate across the season and will be standardized based on the total number of races in each series. The driver with the highest average number of points at the end of the season will be named the Sunoco Driven Challenge champion and win the grand prize of a test in a JGR K&N Pro Series car.

PASS Champs wrap up their title runs in style with feature wins

Shaw, Martin, Hewins PASS Oxford winners

Oxford ME (10/15) It was Champions Day at Oxford Plains Speedway for all three Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North racing series Saturday, and Andy Shaw (PASS Mods) and Carey Martin (PASS Sportsman) both claimed their respective divisions championship in style by winning their season finales.

For Shaw it was a fitting end to a dominant season. The Center Conway NH racer's 2011 record is enviable; 10 starts, 7 wins and 9 top five finishes kept Shaw on top of the standings all season long, and moved him to the top of the PASS Mod record book as the division's winning-est driver.

Ron Henry looked like he had a shot at victory in the early going. Henry took off and left the field in his dust with Dana Reed and Travis Buzzell giving chase. But Shaw was on the move, passing his Uncle Dale for 4^th on lap 15, Buzzell for 3^rd on lap 18 and on lap 21 the defending series champ was second. Three laps later he took over the top spot and set sail. It was Shaw by a straightaway at the checkers with Ron Henry in the runner up spot and Dana Reed third.

Carey Martin carried a slim five point lead in the PASS Sportsman standings to the season finale, and the 2009 series champ did exactly what he need to do. Martin won his heat race and dominated the 75 lap feature to put an exclamation point on his second PASS title. Craig Smith took the second spot from Clyde Hennessy with 11 to go; Frank Wear and Rusty Poland rounded out the top five.

The Wildcat/Strictly Stock fifty lap Open was a wild affair dominated by Leeds racer Kurt Hewins. Corey Morgan ran up front all day and raced home second with Chris Warming third.

All three PASS North touring series will celebrate the season on Friday evening November 4 at the Howard Johnson's Convention Center in Portland Maine. Johnny Clark claims his sixth PASS North title

Oxford ME (10/15) Scott Mulkern roared from the back of a 34 car field to claim the lead and the win in Saturday's Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North 150 at Oxford (ME) Plains Speedway. Travis Benjamin led much of the way but had to settle for the runner up spot, and DJ Shaw raced home third in the PASS North season finale, cut short at lap 118 due to rain.

Joey Pole and Brian Hoar led the field to the green and Pole jumped out front early. Hoar took over from laps 29 through 70 but Benjamin was rumbling up through the field and he wrestled the lead away from Hoar on lap 70.

At the half way mark it was Benjamin, Hoar, Joey Doiron, Shaw and Mulkern in the top five and it was clear that Mulkern was on a mission, gaining 20 spots in the first 75 laps. He was racing second by lap 100 and out front on lap 102 but Benjamin battled back, reclaiming the lead until Mulkern made his way past Benjamin on the bottom for good on lap 112. The showers came six laps later and despite every effort to get the race back under way, the persistent rains forced series officials to call it a race on lap 118.

25 of the 34 starters were scored on the lead lap; six minor cautions slowed the action. Mulkern's margin of victory was .816 seconds.

41 teams attempted to make the 34 car starting field. DJ Shaw, Brian Hoar, and Joey Pole won the qualifiers; Mulkern won the consolation round.

Johnny Clark raced home fourth to cap off a remarkable season that saw the defending series champ earn 7 wins and 13 to five finishes in fourteen starts. The result was more than enough to give Clark and his team a sixth PASS North title, his fourth in a row. Lonnie Sommerville overcame a qualifying race parts failure to finish seventh,enough to earn second in the standings and Ben Rowe's twelfth place run kept the four time PASS North champion third in the final tally.

La Classique ENDURANCE 250, présentée par Oxygène 640.

Ce dimanche 16 octobre

C’est en ce dimanche 16 octobre que sera présentée une des courses les plus attendues à l’Autodrome St-Eustache, le Oxygène 640 « Endurance 250 », l’épreuve de type « ENDURO », la plus populaire au Québec.

Les organisateurs s’attendent à une grille de départ de plus de 150 voitures 4, 6 et 8 cylindres de type « de rue » pour cette course de 250 tours. Au moment d’écrire ces lignes (mercredi) le nombre de participants ayant réservé leurs numéros atteignait déjà la centaine. L’an passé, 183 pilotes avaient pris le départ de cet événement annuel.

C’est toujours aussi captivant de voir les plus hasardeux se faufiler parmi les trois lignes de concurrents dès le signal du départ. Chose certaine, ce n’est pas nécessairement le plus rapide qui franchira la ligne d’arrivée le premier, mais bien ceux qui parviendront patiemment à éviter toutes les embûches en conservant la voiture et la mécanique jusqu’à la fin.

On se rappellera que c’est Jean-François Bouvrette, le policier de St-Jérome qui avait remporté la course ENDURO 200 en début de saison, suivi de Maxime Pelletier et Ray Potvin jr..

C’est dès la barre du jour, à 7 h 00 que les puits ouvriront pour permettre une inspection sécuritaire complète de tous les bolides inscrits. Ce sont les 75 premières voitures ayant subi avec succès l’inspection, dont les pilotes auront eu à de piger les positions de départ qui s’élanceront des 25 premières rangées de trois lors du signal du départ. Les autres seront positionnées en ordre de réussite de l’inspection sécuritaire.

L’épreuve principale de 250 tours sera précédée d’essais en piste des voitures conformes de 10 h 00 à midi et par les recommandations d’usage du directeur de course aux marqueurs et pilotes de 13 h 00 à 14 h 00, heure du départ.

C’est finalement vers 17 h 00 que le vainqueur de cette épreuve d’endurance sera connu et encaissera le montant de 1 000 $ décerné au gagnant après avoir subi avec succès l’inspection technique d’après course.

Confident Maryeve Dufault Anxious For Toledo Speedway Return

TOLEDO, Ohio (October 12, 2011) - - After a solid 18^th place showing at Kansas Speedway last Friday night, Sorel, Quebec Canada native Maryeve Dufault returns to Toledo Speedway in her No. 12 Mad Croc / Dodge Motorsports / Tony Marks Racing Dodge Charger this weekend looking to end her first season of ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards in style with another good showing in Sunday afternoon’s Federated Car Care 200.

Rewinding back to Kansas Speedway for a minute, Dufault showed strength and speed despite a hiccup in qualifying which forced the Tony Marks Racing development driver to start the Kansas Lottery 98.9 from the rear of the field after a cut down tire caused her to spin but she miraculously kept her automobile off the wall; showing overwhelming car control coming to the completion of her first lap. Starting from the 32^nd position without any damage to her hotrod, Dufault rocketed her Chrysler nameplate through the field to maneuver her seventh top-20 effort of the year and earn for her second consecutive race (Pocono and Kansas) the CGS Imaging Hard Charger award.

“We thought we could get a little bit more out of the car for qualifying, but we went too far on the adjustment causing my car to travel more than expected on the track, ultimately cutting down the tire on my first lap causing me to spin. Still, we were able to recover nicely in the race,” Dufault explained.

On the heels of two strong showings reverting back to Pocono (Pa.) Raceway in August, the former NASCAR Canadian Tire Series pilot now turns her attention towards short track beating and banging where on Sunday afternoon she is gunning for her second top-10 finish of the season and end her rookie season on a high note that will lean over into 2012.

“The last two races have been great and there is no reason we can’t move forward even further this weekend,” said Dufault. “A race like we had last Friday night considering all of the circumstances and the length of the race proved that our program is improving all the way around.”

To further propel her confidence towards the 19^th race of the season, Dufault and her teammate Jared Marks recently tested at the half-mile oval with stellar results which gives the now Davidson, North Carolina resident some motivation and objectives in her No. 12 Mad Croc / Dodge Motorsports / Tony Marks Racing Dodge Charger.

“I was thankful that we tested, it helped me a lot,” she added. “Both of the Tony Marks Racing cars were pretty equal and we’re coming back this weekend – hoping to find even more speed. I like Toledo Speedway; it’s a cool place and probably one of my favorite short tracks.

Unfortunately, even though we were running 11^th in the spring, a lapped car put a bunch of us in a bad situation and started a chain-reaction incident and we were caught up in it. So, we weren’t able to put together the finish that we had hoped for. By now, I’m hoping I’ve earned some respect from my peers on the track and they will race me how they want to be raced. Everyone on the team deserves to see our No. 12 near the front of the field and I’m hoping we’re able to accomplish that on Sunday afternoon.”

For the team’s second attempt to conquer Toledo Speedway, the team has brought on Tommy Buzze, the champion car chief from 2010 ARCA Racing Series championship team Sheltra Motorsports to call the shots for Dufault on Sunday afternoon.

“I’ve really heard nothing but good things about Tommy and his credentials are obviously impressive,” Dufault explained. “It’s a good thing for TMR to be expanding to two cars more frequently and definitely having Tommy on the pit box on Sunday will do nothing but help the program all the way around and I’m all for that. I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Following Toledo, Dufault plans to regroup with her Mooresville, North Carolina-based team and prepare for 2012 which includes returning to the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards for another year of battle.

“I’ve been incredibly grateful for everything that has happened to me this year,” Dufault humbling stated. “The learning process has been extensive but nothing but positive as far as I’m concerned. We’ll spend the off-season getting the cars together and working on hopefully bringing some more marketing partners on-board to kick off the new season. One thing is for sure, we’ll be back and better than ever.”

Car owner Tony Marks offered his insight on Sunday’s anticipated thriller.

“I cannot wait to see both of our Tony Marks Racing entries duking it out for a good finish on Sunday afternoon,” said Marks, a successful entrepreneur from Ohio. “The test went extremely well and Maryeve’ confidence is contagious, so I’m anxious to see the green flag drop and see her end the ARCA season on a positive note.”

In addition to backing from Mad Croc Energy, Dodge Motorsports, the freshman organization welcomes additional support from Hickory’s Best Beef Jerky, Walgreens, Pilkington Glass, Cool Off Icy Towelettes and the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) for Sunday’s festivities.

The Federated Car Care 200 (200 laps / 100 miles) is the 19^th of 19 events on the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 70^th ARCA race at Toledo Speedway is a two-day show. Practice begins Saturday, October 15 with a forty five minute practice session planned from 12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. A final forty five minute “happy hour” session has been etched in from 1:40 p.m. – 2:25 p.m. Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell is set for later in the day slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. A one hour on-track autograph session has been etched in from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. on race day (Sunday). The contest will take the green flag shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 16. The event will be televised live on SPEED with additional race coverage including live timing and scoring throughout the 1,331^st race for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards since it was formed in 1953 will be available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com presented by ARCANation.com. Jared Marks Thirsty For Strong Run At Toledo Speedway

TOLEDO, Ohio (October 11, 2011) - - Still thriving on his impressive fourth place finish in his most recent ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards contest at Salem (Ind.) Speedway last month, Jared Marks, development driver for Tony Marks Racing (TMR) enters Sunday’s season finale at Toledo Speedway looking to prove that his recent performance wasn’t a fluke.

While many refuse to question that his performance wasn’t solely based on luck, Marks intends to show that his freshman ARCA Racing Series team is now a force to be reckon with and that effort was just the first of many more to come.

“Salem was a great confidence booster for everyone associated with Tony Marks Racing,” said 17-year old Jared Marks. “I’m anxious to get back to Toledo Speedway this weekend to put our No. 8 Terry Henricks Chrysler / Dodge / Jeep / Ram Dodge Charger on the track and in position for another strong finish.”

Marks, the son of car owner and former racecar driver Tony Marks is set to make his seventh career ARCA start on Sunday afternoon and other than being shoved into an incident not of his doing at Lucas Oil Raceway Park at Indianapolis in July, his presence on the circuit hasn’t been anything less than impressive.

With five top-15 finishes including a fourth at Salem, a 13^th in his ARCA debut at Toledo Speedway, a 12^th at the high banks of Winchester (Ind.) Speedway, a 11^th at the .875-mile paved oval of Iowa Speedway and a 12^th at the tricky Madison (Wisc.) International Speedway, the Napoleon, Ohio native overall considers 2011 a success.

“We’ve learned a lot this year,” said Marks, who now resides in Mooresville, North Carolina. “I had a lot to learn from the move up from Late Models to ARCA and because of the faith and confidence from my team and teammate Maryeve (Dufault); we’ve been able to make some noise of our own. We’re hoping to continue that pace on Sunday.”

In order to give the team an opportunity at ending their inaugural season on a high note, the team recently participated in a private test session alongside Dufault, where the duo mounted quick lap times and positive feedback about the handling of their race cars.

“I feel more confident going into this race than I did at any other,” Marks sounded. “It is my home town-track and this was the place of my ARCA debut. Although, I might be a rookie, I have high expectations for this weekend. I would like to better our last finish (fourth) and aim for a top-three run. It is highly important for us to end on a positive note going into the off-season and hopefully, I’ll be racing full-time in the series next year. Regardless, it has been a great season and I have to thank Terry Henricks Chrysler / Dodge / Jeep / Ram, the University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH), Dodge and everyone else who supports TMR for standing behind us.”

For the elder Marks, a successful Ohio entrepreneur, he is looking forward to seeing both of his drivers back in action on Sunday afternoon.

“I think both of our TMR entries should run competitively this weekend,” the former road-racer explained. “I was at the track for the test and I could not believe the difference a couple of months make in both of the driver’s abilities to finesse their way around a tough track like Toledo Speedway. We’re going to have plenty of support in the grandstands on Sunday, so I’m hoping that with a little luck and patience, both of our cars will finish in the top-10 and we’ll close the year out itching for 2012 to get here.”

Mark’s teammate and Sorel, Quebec native Maryeve Dufault will make her 14^th career ARCA Racing Series start in the No. 12 Mad Croc Energy / Dodge Motorsports / Tony Marks Racing Dodge Charger. For the season finale, Ryan Chism, part of the 2010 ARCA Racing Series championship team will serve as crew chief of the No. 8 automobile this weekend.

The Toledo ARCA 200 presented by Federated Car Care (200 laps / 100 miles) is the 19^th of 19 events on the 2011 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards schedule. The 70^th ARCA race at Toledo Speedway is a two-day show. Practice begins Saturday, October 15 with a forty five minute practice session planned from 12:00 p.m. – 12:45 p.m. A final forty five minute “happy hour” session has been etched in from 1:40 p.m. – 2:25 p.m. Menards pole qualifying presented by Ansell is set for later in the day slated to begin at 4:00 p.m. A one hour on-track autograph session has been etched in from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. on race day (Sunday). The contest will take the green flag shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 16. The event will be televised live on SPEED with additional race coverage including live timing and scoring throughout the 1,331^st race for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards since it was formed in 1953 will be available through the ARCA Racing Network (ARN) online at arcaracing.com presented by ARCANation.com. Plattsburgh, NY – Hudson, New Hampshire’s Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. claimed the American-Canadian Tour Rent-A-Wreck Fall Foliage 200 win at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, New York on Saturday, October 8. Polewarczyk claimed his first ACT point race win of the season in the combination ACT Tour and Série ACT Castrol event.

Polewarczyk led at several points during the event and claimed the lead for good after Groveton, New Hampshire’s Randy Potter got loose coming out of turn two and dropped two tires off the backstretch, while leading on lap 187. Potter made an amazing save and settled in for second. Turner, Maine’s Glen Luce used a late race caution to move into third followed by Wayne Helliwell, Jr. and Austin Theriault in the top five.

Karl Allard led early from the outside pole, but lost the lead to Potter following the first restart. The outside lane seemed to be the place to be on restarts throughout the event. Polewarczyk joined the mix after the lap 40 restart. Potter and Polewarczyk swapped the lead several before both pitted under caution on lap 131. The majority of the field chose to pit under that caution for tires and fuel.

2011 Série ACT Castrol Champion Patrick Laperle decided to stay out, as he had already took on two tires on an earlier caution, and took the lead. Laperle would hold off Polewarczyk and DJ Shaw as he led until the lap 176 mark before a flat tire forced him to pit under a caution. Polewarczyk and Potter took over the front row once again and Potter took the advantage on the restart and appeared to have the race in hand before the back stretch gave the lead back to Polewarczyk for good.

2011 ACT Tour Champion Brian Hoar took the sixth position followed by Shaw, Laperle, Ben Rowe and Donald Theetge rounded out the top ten. The event took one hour and fifty minutes with a total of twelve cautions. A total of 48 cars attempted to qualify for the 36 car field. Twenty-five cars took the checkered flag with 16 cars on the lead lap.

Hinesburg, Vermont’s Bobby Therrien won the final Bond/WIX Tiger Tour event of the season. Outside pole sitter Jason Bonnett broke out to an early lead before rookie driver Dylan Payea ran him down in lapped traffic and muscled his way by. Payea and Bonnett battled through the first restart on lap 73 until the two became the their own caution on lap 86. Derrick O’Donnell and Therrien claimed the front row.

O’Donnell led until the final restart of the event on lap 90 when Therrien fought by on the outside. Payea made a charge from the rear to claim second by a paint job at the line over O’Donnell. Troy Gray and Joey Roberts completed the top five. O’Donnell’s third place effort was enough to claim the 2011 Bond/WIX Tiger Tour title. He will now attempt to take the Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen championship at Thunder Road tomorrow.

Nineteen cars were on hand for the final Tiger Tour event of the season. Sixteen cars finished with eight cars on the lead lap. The event had a total of four cautions and took forty-four minutes.

The Airborne Renegades were also on hand for the event. 2011 Renegade Champion Kevin Boutin, Jr. of Swanton, VT took the overall win after taking a first in the first 25 lap segment and fourth in the second 25 lap segment. Robert Gordon, Joe Warren, Josh Terry and Lance Robtoy completed the top five.

Many of the ACT Late Model teams and the Tiger Sportsmen competitors will head to Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT tomorrow (Sunday, October 9) for the 49^th Annual People’s United Bank Milk Bowl. It will be the final event of the 2011 season after being rained out last weekend. Booth Bros./H.P. Hood time trials will roll out at 12 noon. Admission is $25 for adults and $5 for kids ages 6 to 12. The front gates will open at 10am.

Fall Foliage 200 à la piste Airborne de Plattsburgh

UN PODIUM COMPLÈTEMENT AMÉRICAIN…

Le Fall Foliage 200, la dernière manche au calendrier de la série Act-Castrol et le championnat américain de l’ACT, disputée, hier, à la piste Airborne de Plattsburgh, s’est soldée avec un podium complètement américain. La victoire est allée à Joey Polewarczyk devant Randy Potter et Glen Luce. Patrick Laperle, le pilote de la Fusion/LaSalle Ford, a été le meilleur Québécois avec une huitième place.

Le vainqueur (5) et Potter (4) se sont échangé le poste de commande en neuf occasions dans cette confrontation de 200 tours ponctuée de 12 ralentissements. Deux autres Américains, Wayne Helliwell et Austin Thériault ont complété le peloton des cinq premiers.

Crevaison

Vingt-neuvième sur la grille, Patrick Laperle, le nouveau monarque de la série ACT-Castrol, a été impliqué dans un incident avec John Donahue au 52^e passage. Reparti de l’arrière, il a remonté le peloton pour hériter du poste de commande au 132^e tour alors que la majorité des engagés en profitaient pour effectuer une visite à leurs puits.

Laperle a mené le bal jusqu’au 176^e tour, alors qu’une crevaison est venue anéantir ses chances de l’emporter pour une quatrième fois d’affilée. Après une visite à ses équipiers sous le drapeau jaune, il a de nouveau repris son ascension vers le sommet pour finalement terminer huitième. Donald Theetge, 27^e au départ, a pris la dixième place.

Pour sa part, Patrick Cliche de St-Jean-Chrysostôme a connu une très bonne course en terminant 13^e. Cette prestation lui permettra possiblement de terminer au sixième échelon de la série ACT-Castrol.

Après avoir mené la course durant les 17 premiers tours en raison d’une deuxième place sur la grille de départ, Karl Allard de St-Félicien a terminé 15^e juste devant Dave Michaud de Ste-Anne-des-Plaines qui devenait le dernier à compléter les 200 tours réglementaires.

Parmi les autres pilotes de la série ACT-Castrol qui ont pris le départ dans ce Fall Foliage 300, mentionnons que Patrick Hamel a terminé 22^e, Jean-François Déry 30^e, Dany Trépanier (31^e), Stéphane Descoste (32^e) et Claude Leclerc 34^e.

Il y avait 48 voitures inscrites dans ce Fall Foliage 200 et seulement 36 ont accédé à la finale.
