Downtown Rutland to host Devil's Bowl Speedway Car Show

Community celebration kicks off Vermont track’s new era

RUTLAND CITY, VT – The cars and stars of Devil’s Bowl Speedway are coming to the heart of one of Vermont’s biggest cities. On Saturday, May 5, stock cars and drivers from four NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions will line the streets of Downtown Rutland to usher in a new era of racing at the nearby track. The inaugural Downtown Rutland car show in will be in support of the Spring Green 112, the track’s season-opening event, on Sunday, May 6.

From 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 5, as many as 50 race cars will line Merchants Row for a “meet and greet” car show between Washington Street and Center Street. Race fans will have a chance to get up close and personal with not just the fire-breathing race machines from Devil’s Bowl Speedway, but also with the local men and women who dare to drive them each week at the fast asphalt half-mile oval. Show-goers are also encouraged to support the businesses and restaurants along Merchants Row and throughout Downtown Rutland during the car show.

Michael Coppinger, Executive Director of the Downtown Rutland Partnership, helped make the event become a reality.

“Downtown Rutland is honored and excited to play host to the first Devil's Bowl Speedway welcome party ever in Rutland City. Stock car racing is one of the most popular sports in the country and because of that we feel this event will draw many spectators into the downtown from all over our region,” Coppinger said, hinting at possible future opportunities with track owners Mike and Alayne Bruno. “We wish the new owners of Devil's Bowl Speedway the best of luck and look forward to working with them in the future.”

Cars and drivers from Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s Bond Auto Parts Modified, J&S Steel Late Model, Renegade, and Bomber divisions will be on hand at the Downtown Rutland show, along with select American-Canadian Tour Late Model teams. An open practice session will follow at the race track.

On Sunday, May 6, Devil’s Bowl Speedway opens its 46^th racing season with the Spring Green 112. Opening ceremonies begin at 1:30 p.m., with qualifying set for 2:00 p.m. General admission is $18 for adults, $15 for seniors (62+), and free for children 12 and under; discount season passes are available.

Rutland is the third largest city in Vermont and is easily accessed by U.S. Routes 4 and 7, by rail on Amtrak’s Ethan Allen Express (New York City), and by air on Cape Air (Boston). The ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards has crowned an ARCA national champion each year since its inaugural season in 1953, and has toured over 200 race tracks in 28 states since its inception. DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (April 26, 2012) – NASCAR Day, an annual celebration of NASCAR’s fans, charities and spirit, will have extra incentive for fans to share their passion for the sport and make a difference in the lives of children this year.

The ninth celebration of NASCAR Day on Friday, May 18th will encourage fans to join The NASCAR Foundation’s initiative in the “Pin It Forward” campaign. Fans are invited to connect and share their pride for NASCAR by posting stories and uploading pictures on the foundation’s Facebook page.

Terry Senneker Signs Up for Toledo Allegiant Gold Cup Race

(TOLEDO, Ohio) - Wayland, Mich. driver Terry Senneker has inked his entry for this Sunday's 100-lap ARCA Allegiant Gold Cup Series event at Toledo Speedway, which is one half of the 7Up Twin 100s at the half-mile paved oval. The ARCA CRA Super Series will also be in competition, with a separate 100-lap event for the stock-bodied late models.

Senneker, one of the top outlaw Late Model racers in the Midwest, will make his first trip to Toledo in several years. The second-generation star is a threat to win wherever he races, and Terry kicked off the 2012 season in winning style by capturing the 100 lap event at the Berlin Raceway in Marne, MI April 14.

In fact, the pavement Late Model racing season is just 2 weeks old in this area, and the winners of both events are scheduled to be at Toledo this Sunday, April 29. Kalamazoo Speedway winner Steve Needles, fresh off his win in the Intimidator 100 last Saturday night, is also entered for the Toledo event. Needles will be looking for his first-ever victory at the Glass City oval.

As of 5 p.m. today, a total of 33 ARCA CRA Super Series cars and 26 ARCA Allegiant Gold Cup cars are entered for the doubleheader. The forecast for Sunday is sunshine and temperatures in the low 50's.

A section of Toledo's new grandstand has been completed and will be open for Sunday's race, giving race fans a new and spectacular view of the track.

An open practice session is slated for Saturday, April 28 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. There is no charge for spectators for Saturday's practice. Tours of the new grandstands will be available Saturday afternoon, which includes a large handicap seating area. 7Up will be giving away a bottle of 7Up for fans that venture to the top of the new stands in the "Pop at the Top" promotion during the practice day.

Sunday's schedule has practice beginning at 11 a.m., time trials go at 12:45 and racing begins at 2 p.m. The pits will open both days at 9 a.m. The ticket office and grandstand gates will open at 11 a.m. Sunday morning. All seating is general admission.

Journée Porte Ouverte et ENDURO 200 ce week-end à l'Autodrome St-Eustache.

Le prochain week-end marquera le début des activités de stock-car au Québec alors que les pilotes de toutes les catégories évolueront sur le tracé de l’Autodrome St-Eustache, samedi et dimanche les 28 et 29 avril.

Samedi, ce sera une journée « Porte Ouverte » alors que tous les amateurs sont conviés, tout à fait gratuitement, dans l’estrade populaire à assister aux premiers tours de piste des voitures de toutes les divisions et séries qui évolueront à St-Eustache en 2012 lors d’essais et de courses de démonstration tout au long de la journée.

Des pilotes des séries ACT, Sportsman Québec, Sportsman ANCA, Procam-Super Truck, Rev Star et des classes locales de l’ANCA, Sport Compactes, Légendes Modifiées, Production et Challenge 4 ont déjà confirmé leur participation, en plus de quelques pilotes de la région de Montréal évoluant dans la Série Vintage Québec qui pourraient bien se présenter pour roder leurs bolides. Les amateurs présents pourront admirer les nouvelles couleurs de leurs pilotes favoris de toutes les divisions. Pour l’occasion, les puits ouvriront à 10h et les sessions de pratiques débuteront à 10h30 et seront suivies de compétitions amicales en fin d’après-midi.

Le lendemain, dimanche, 29 avril, les amateurs de sensations fortes sont conviés à la première des trois courses d’endurance de la saison 2012, l’ENDURO 200 / OXYGÈNE 640, au cours de laquelle une centaine de pilotes s’affronteront dans un duel comprenant des voitures 4, 6 et 8 cylindres de 101 pouces et plus d’empattement. Ces courses folles sont toujours fort appréciées de la part des amateurs de sensations fortes qui envahissent en grand nombre les gradins de l’Autodrome St-Eustache à chacun de ces événements. Les puits ouvriront dès 7h00 pour les inspections techniques, tandis que les pratiques débuteront à 10h. La présentation des pilotes et les instructions seront données avant le départ de cette course de 200 tours qui sera donné sur le coup de 14h, pour un peu plus de 2 heures de sensations fortes. Le prix d’admission pour cet événement est de 20 $ pour les adultes, 10 $ pour les étudiants de 13 à 17 ans et gratuit pour les 12 ans et moins.

Ces deux événements seront précédés par les populaires Drags de rue qui se tiendront mercredi et jeudi, 25 et 26 avril.

Laperle Files Entry to Merchants Bank 150

Barre, VT - Two-time and defending Serie ACT Castrol Champion Patrick Laperle has filed his entry for the 14th Annual Merchants Bank 150 at Thunder Road. The former ACT US star, who won the ACT Championship in 2008, will make his return to the Barre Highbanks to kick off the 2012 season.

Laperle’s resume at Thunder Road makes him an early favorite for the Merchants Bank 150. His 19 ACT wins, four of which have been at Thunder Road, is third overall on the All-Time ACT Win List. He is a multi-time Thunder Road Milk Bowl Champion as well as the 2010 Labor Day Classic winner.

Laperle is enthusiastic about starting the 2012 racing season.

“Usually we compete in races over the winter, but we did not do that this year. We are more excited than ever to start the season.” commented Laperle. “We have added some new sponsors this year which will allow us to race more, so we will take it one race at a time and see where we are.” Laperle finished.

Laperle will not be without competition at the Thunder Road opener, however, as the two drivers listed above him on the ACT All Time Win List will also be in competition. Eight-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar of Williston, VT fresh off of his win at Lee USA in the season opener will be looking to continue his hot streak on the ACT U.S. Seven-time ACT Champion Jean-Paul Cyr of Milton, VT will be looking to dethrone Hoar and tie him in ACT Championships during the 2012 season. There will also be stiff competition from Barre’s Nick Sweet, the winner of the last two Merchants Bank 150s, David Pembroke of Middlesex, VT, the defending Thunder Road Late Model Champion, as well as multi-time champions Phil Scott and Cris Michaud.

Deuxième gain consécutif pour Steeve Hobbs à Sanair

St-Hyacinthe (Québec), le 22 avril 2012.– C'est ce week-end, sur le réseau de routes du Complexe Sanair à St-Pie-de-Bagot, qu'a été disputé le Rallye de Sanair, première étape 2012 du Championnat des Rallyes du Québec présenté par Swap Shop. Un événement qui fut spectaculaire, malgré des conditions climatiques épouvantables, remporté par Steeve Hobbs et Jean-Mathieu Tremblay (Subaru Impreza WRX), ainsi que par les duos Peter Robindaine/Daniel Héroux (Honda Civic) en Coupe Jon Nichols et par Carl Tremblay/Louis Dicaire (VW Golf) en Coupe du Québec.

Cette vingt-septième édition du Rallye de Sanair avait réuni vingt-trois équipages, dont la moitié avait des ambitions de victoire dans l'une des trois catégories faisant partie du Championnat des Rallyes du Québec. Peu avant le départ, la pluie faisait son apparition, pour s'intensifier en après-midi, rendant les routes de ce seul rallye sur asphalte au Canada piégeuses à de multiples endroits. Malgré cela, dix-huit équipages sont parvenus à compléter l'épreuve.

En tête, l'Américain Andrew Havas, aux commandes d'une antique Mazda RX-7, et le Québécois Yohan Tessier se firent la lutte aux avant-postes lors de la première spéciale. Mais une sortie de route pour Havas et un bris mécanique pour Tessier vinrent peu après les reléguer dans les profondeurs du classement. C'est alors un duel entre Frank Lognay et le champion en titre Steeve Hobbs qui se dessina pour la victoire. Très calculateur, conservateur même à certains moments aux commandes de sa nouvelle Subaru Impreza WRX, le Saguenéen Steeve Hobbs, co-piloté par Jean-Mathieu Tremblay, allait petit à petit se ménager une avance suffisante pour s'en aller décrocher une deuxième victoire en autant d'années au Rallye de Sanair.

Retardé par une pénalité, le pilote de Brossard, Belge d'origine, Frank Lognay et sa fille Larissa qui le co-pilote, ont effectué une superbe remontée pour croiser le fil d'arrivée en deuxième place, à une minute trente-huit secondes de Hobbs/Tremblay. La troisième place en classe 4 roues motrices revient à un autre équipage Subaru, celui formé des Gaspésiens André et René Leblanc qui en étaient à leur toute première compétition à vie sur l'asphalte.

En classe Jon Nichols, réservée aux voitures deux roues motrices modifiées, personne ne semblait en mesure de rivaliser avec Peter Robindaine et Daniel Héroux, sur leur Honda Civic. Très expérimenté sur l'asphalte, le duo qui compte quelques participations au Targa de Terre-Neuve, l'emporte avec un peu plus de deux minutes d'avance sur Sylvain Bazinet et David Legault, eux aussi sur Honda Civic. Multiple vainqueur en Coupe du Québec, ce duo évolue cette saison en Coupe Jon Nichols. Ils n'ont pas mis de temps à trouver le chemin du podium, en dépit du fait que Sylvain Bazinet était handicapé par une blessure à une jambe.

De retour à la compétition avec une Mini Cooper S, Stéphane Simard, co-piloté par Philippe Côté, a lui aussi très bien fait, se hissant au troisième rang dans sa catégorie.

En Coupe du Québec (véhicules 2 roues motrices de type Production), Carl Tremblay et son co-pilote Louis Dicaire ont imposé leur Volkswagen Golf GTI, devant Jean-Charles Carrière/Catherine Asselin (Honda Civic) et les débutants François Gauvreau/Guillaume Roussin sur Ford Fiesta.

Le Rallye de Sanair était la première des quatre étapes du Championnat des Rallyes du Québec 2012, présenté par Swap Shop et sanctionné par Rallye Sport Québec. Tous les détails sur la série sont disponibles sur le site www.couperallye.com. La prochaine manche aura lieu au Saguenay le 16 juin.

ACT announces with great enthusiasm that VP Racing Fuels will

become the official fuel supplier for 2012 ACT season.

VP Fuels products are distributed in Quebec by DL Performance for

over 15 years now. Since DL Performance is already the fuel supplier

for DIRT series, it is with pleasure that they will take the relief for ACT

series with C9 type fuel, required for all racers.

utilisation immédiate. Les balances d’essence Sunoco 110 pourront

être utilisées jusqu’au 30 juin sur les Séries Castrol.

Selon Tom Curley, président de ACT, cette nouvelle association avec

VP Fuels arrive à temps pour aider les coureurs à se procurer un

produit plus écologique, plus performant et moins dispendieux. En

effet, après avoir effectué des tests au bureau chef de ACT, les

dirigeants furent impressionnés par les résultats comparatifs. Les

résultats démontrent que le C9 se consume plus proprement, tout en

procurant plus de puissance aux moteurs que les autres types

d’essences utilisés auparavant.

Le concept VP, conçu par Jim Kelly, directeur des ventes chez VP Fuels

offre une variété de programmes financiers et incitatifs pour les

coureurs ACT. VP Fuels est également très fier d’être associé à la série

ACT et compte bien contribuer aux efforts de la série et à

l’amélioration des performances des coureurs pour plusieurs années.

Toutes les équipes ACT et Thunder Road recevront un mémo technique

concernant les programmes VP Fuels ainsi que les disponibilités de

ceux-ci, avant l’ouverture de la saison 2012.

Pour célébrer cette nouvelle union entre l’ACT et VP Fuels, cette

dernière fournira gratuitement un bidon de plastique VP de 20 litres

par équipe, lors de l’achat du premier baril d’essence C9. Le 25 mai,

VP Fuels effectuera une livraison d’essence sans frais de transport à

l’autodrome Montmagny. Les équipes qui désirent profiter de cette

opportunité doivent commander et payer leur essence avant le 11 mai

2012. Elles doivent également commander leur bidon gratuit par la

même occasion. Tous les bidons supplémentaires seront vendus au

prix spécial de 33,75$ +tx.

L’essence est présentement disponible chez DL Performance, situé à

St-Jean-sur-Richelieu et peut être ramassée à l’entrepôt du lundi au

vendredi entre 9h am et 5h pm, ou être livrée aux frais du client.

C9 is an unleaded performance fuel made without any ethanol

componants. This product will be introduced and permitted for

immediate use. The Sunoco 110 stock balances can be used until june

30th on Castrol series.

According to Tom Curley, presidentof ACT, this new association with

VP Fuels arrives on time to help competitors getting more ecological,

more performant and less expensive product. Indeed, after testing the

produc at ACT’s Main Office, the results confirm that C9 fuel is

consuming more cleanly, and brings more power to engine than other

types of fuels used before.

All ACT teams will receive a technical note regarding the VP Fuels

programs and availabilities before 2012 season opens.

To celebrate this union between ACT and VP Fuels, this one will supply

one free fuel jug to each team when they buy their first 54 gallons

drum of C9. On May 25th, VP Fuels will provide a delivery without any

fees at Autodrome Montmagny, near Quebec City. Teams have to

order and prepay their drums before May 11th to have it for the 25th.

Please order your free jug at the same time. Additional jugs will be

sold for a special price of 33.75$ +tx. Transport fees will be charge

for deliveries after that date.

The fuel will be available at DL Performance, located in St-Jean-sur-

Richelieu, from april 19th 2012. DL Performance is now working on

establishing sale points close to the race events in order to facilitate

distribution of the fuel.

Ross Kenseth scores first PASS South win at Orange County race leader Peltier breaks with three to go, Kenseth capitalizes

Charlotte, NC 4/23/12- Ross Kenseth proved Saturday night at the Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, North Carolina that in racing sometimes it’s better to be lucky than good. Kenseth scored his first career PASS South Series win as he passed Preston Peltier who experienced a broken left front lower control arm with just three laps remaining, winning the Orange Blossom Special 150.

Kenseth, who entered the event fifth in championship standings, showed he had a fast car before the green flag dropped on the 150 lap race as he set fast time during series qualifying earlier in the day. After the redraw of the top fastest qualifiers that took time in the twenty-six car starting field Kenseth would be shuffled back to fifth and Gray Gaulding was the lucky driver to lead the field to green.

Fourteen year old Gaulding in his #2 Krispy Kreme Toyota wasted no time settling into the top position. Just as swiftly as Gaulding took the lead, track favorite Jay Fogleman from nearby Durham, North Carolina experienced transmission problems sending his #4 Bull City Racecars machine falling to the rear of the field by lap ten. Two single car incidents slowed the field twice within the first thirty laps before a two car wreck involving #26 Tyler Church and #20 Steve Legendre sent Church’s car into the outside wall in turn one on lap forty-two.

While under caution for the incident #98 Ryan Blaney, who was in the third position at the time, and Jay Fogleman made contact slightly damaging the #98 nose while Fogleman was passing the field for the lucky dog award. Despite the damage Blaney’s Carswell Motorsports team made the decision to stay out as the field went back to green. Just six laps shy of the halfway point Legendre’s motor let go just as the car entered turn one spitting oil on the racing surface sending three cars including that of defending winner #33 Roger Lee Newton into the outside wall.

The lap seventy restart was Blaney’s opportunity to spring to the lead over Gaulding who ended the night leading the most laps in the 150 lap event. As the race came down to twenty-five to go #26 Preston Peltier put pressure on Blaney for the top spot before passing him with ease and setting sail away from the competition. Peltier opened up a five car length lead over Kenseth who had now made his way to second when sparks began to emerge from Peltier’s Chevrolet with just four laps to go. That was all Kenseth needed to score his first series win in just his fourth series start.

“I feel bad for Preston (Peltier) because I’ve lost a few races just like that, but that’s racing as they say,” stated Kenseth in victory lane. “You can say we lucked into this one tonight, but then again Jamie (Rouleau) and the rest of the guys gave me a car that was good enough to be in the position to win and capitalize on Preston’s bad luck. I know we’ve struggled a bit out of the gate, but I think people can see things are headed in the right direction. It just feels real good to get my first win here in the PASS South Series and be back in victory lane.”

Next race for the PASS South Series “Big Boys with the Bad Fast Toys” is the Capital City Clash/Bull Ring Tough Guy Challenge 125 at the Wake County Speedway in Raleigh, North Carolina on Friday night May 11^th.

The 2012 PASS North super late model season gets underway on Saturday May 5 at Scarborough Maine's Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Patrick Laperle Looks to Defend ACT Serie Castrol Title

Waterbury, VT -- In 2011, Patrick Laperle of St-Denis, QC dominated the field on his way to his second Serie ACT Castrol Championship. After a historic season in which he posted 11 top fives in 12 starts with an average finish of 3.66, he will look to make an attempt at back-to-back championships in 2012, a feat that has never been done in the series.

The road to the championship will not be easy, however, due to challenges from two other former champs. Karl Allard of St-Félicien, QC will be hungry for a championship after finishing second to Laperle in 2011. Allard has already had a taste of the top, when he won the Serie ACT Castrol Championship in 2010. Allard will look to return the championship trophy to the Larue Industrial Snowblower/Gayor Construction mantle in 2012.

Donald Theetge of Boischatel, QC is the only driver, other than Laperle, who has earned more than one championship in the series. Theetge finished third overall in 2011 with 2 feature wins, but in 2012 will bring a brand new RPM racing car to competition.

Other Serie Castrol drivers in contention for the title in 2012 are former Rookie of the Year and 2011 feature winner Patrick Hamel from St. Croix, QC along with top-five points finisher David Michaud, Dany Trepanier, Patrick Cliche and Jean-François Déry. All are expected to be contenders for the 2012 Serie ACT Castrol Title.

Laperle, known for his “no holds barred - full throttle” style knows that the competition on the ACT Castrol Series has gotten better and better over the past few years. Winning a title will not come easily.

“We didn’t race this winter, so we are extra excited to go racing. This year will be tough, I know Theetge has a new car, Allard has a great car, and there are many new drivers on the tour. I am most worried about Theetge, Allard and David Michaud for sure,” Laperle commented. “You need a lot of good luck in this series and there are a lot of new guys now. We will see how our chances look after the first race,” Laperle finished.

The season begins Saturday, May 26 at Autodrome Montmagny in Montmagny, QC.
