Veteran's Home Track Advantage Pays Off For Mulkern Racing

 

STAFFORD, Conn. – Ted Christopher added to his eye-popping resume at Stafford Motor Speedway, leading every lap from the outside pole to win the inaugural PASS North Series 125 at his home track on Sunday afternoon.

 

The victory was the track-record 119th of Christopher's career at the half-mile Stafford Motor Speedway, where he has a grandstand section named after him. In addition to 98 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series wins at the track in Modified competition, Christopher also has victories in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and a half-dozen wins in weekly Pro Stock events there.

 

The event was shortened to 110 laps over a concern about excessive tire wear for the cars.

 

“The car was really good,” said Christopher, who was making his second start of 2012 in the Mulkern Racing No. 18 Southern Maine Motors Chevrolet. He finished 11th at Thompson International Speedway in July. “Thanks to (car owner Scott Mulkern) for letting me drive the car. The thing is fast.”

 

The win was the first of the season for Mulkern Racing in the PASS North Series. Full-time Mulkern Racing driver Lonnie Sommerville ran in second for most of the first half of Sunday's race, but the No. 48 A.E. McKay Builders/Southern Maine Motors Chevrolet encountered handling issues after the halftime break and rallied to finish ninth.

 

It was the third straight Top-10 finish for Sommerville in the second half of the season.

 

Both Christopher and Sommerville were strong in qualifying earlier in the day, with Top-5 finishes in their qualifying races to earn Top-3 starting spots in the feature event.

 

“Everything went great all day,” said Christopher's crew chief, Seth Holbrook. “It was nice to get a win, and it was important to get a win for Mulkern Racing. They deserve it.”

 

The PASS North Series continues its 2012 season with the PASS 150 at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, N.H., on Saturday, September 8.

   Ce vendredi 31 août, les champions de toutes les catégories seront couronnés. Des finales avec points de championnat sont prévues dans chaque classe. Le Groupe Maska présentera la soirée Championnat fin de saison. Keven Beaucage (# 45 Sportsman) sera le pilote vedette de la soirée.

 

Les Sport Compact :Dominik Blais domine le classement

   Dominik Blais est le meneur au classement avec 27 points de plus que Yannick Bouchard. Le troisième rang est occupé par Guillaume Daoust qui n’a que 7 points de moins. Les meneurs au classement n’ont pas de photo avec le drapeau à damier cette saison. Daoust devrait aussi mériter le titre de recrue dans la catégorie Sport Compact. Les Pro-Stock : Jocelyn Roy demeure le ‘ King’

   Avec ses quatre victoires cette saison, Jocelyn Roy (#48) cumule 690 points. François Adam (#01) a pour sa part mérité 3 victoires et il a 647 points. Le troisième rang est l’affaire de Stéphane Lemire (#115) avec 2 victoires et 608 points. La lutte est très serrée pour la quatrième position, seulement 8 points séparent les positions 4 à 8.Cette finale de 30 tours avec points de championnat pourrait apporter des changements au classement. Kim Alex (#72) est le seul pilote éligible au titre de recrue 2012.

Les Sportsman : Steve Bernier sera difficile à déloger

 

   Le champion défendant Steve Bernier (#25) devrait conserver son titre de champion. Il domine le classement avec 69 points de plus que Maxime Michon (#75). Si Bernier  prend le départ de la finale de 35 tours, il est assuré du titre. Une belle lutte pour le troisième rang, Mathieu Desjardins cumule 656 points tandis qu’Yvan Rivard en a 650. Patrice Dumouchel (#3), Martin Lessard (#2X) et René Montminy (#84) se font une chaude lutte pour le titre de recrue Sportsman 2012. Seulement 12 points d’écart avant le programme du 31 août donc les trois pilotes peuvent mériter le titre. Dany Gagné (#90) a mérité le titre de recrue en 2011, il est le seul pilote du ‘Top 5’ qui n’a pas savouré de victoire cette saison, méritera-t-il enfin cet honneur?

   Le champion défendant de la catégorie Modifié ‘ François Bernier’ a 70 points de plus que Mario Clair (#22). Tout comme son frère Steve en catégorie Sportsman, François est assuré du championnat s’il prend le départ de la finale de 50 tours. Kayle Robidoux a accumulé 815 points cette saison, il occupe le troisième rang au championnat 2012. Claude Brouillard (#3) et Alain Boisvert (#73) sont ex aequo au 4e rang avec seulement 8 points de moins que Robidoux. Steve Nadeau (#94) méritera le titre de recrue, il connaît une excellente saison, il occupe présentement le 12e rang au classement. Nadeau a remporté quelques qualifications et est venu très près de remporter une victoire en finale en 2012.

Buescher Keeps Points Lead with Madison Win, His Fourth of 2012

Sunday, August 26, 2012

 

(MADISON, Wis.) - ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards points leader Chris Buescher withstood a series of challenges from Frank Kimmel and Alex Bowman - and eight extra laps of racing - to take a series-leading fourth win in 2012 at Madison International Speedway.

 

 Buescher (No. 17 Roulo Brothers Racing Ford) led 110 of 208 laps, including the final 34, to win the Herr's Live Life with Flavor 200 and become the 40th driver in ARCA history with nine or more wins. He had to come back from 13th place early in the race after contact on Lap 31 sent him spinning out of the top five. He had started seventh.

 

The 19-year-old extended his points lead over Kimmel from 15 to 60. Kimmel took the lead from Buescher on Lap 173 but slipped up two laps later to give back the advantage. From there, Buescher survived challenges on three restarts and won by 0.7 second over Bowman, a reversal of the top two positions from the 2011 race at the half-mile oval.

 

To get to Victory Lane, Buescher not only had to drive through 208 laps but he had to wait through a rain delay that extended over three hours. Light rain fell over southern Wisconsin throughout the morning, but officials started the race just after 5:30 p.m.

 

"That was a lot of fun and I'm glad we got this race in here now," Buescher said. "It was a blast racing with quite a few guys out there. It's exactly what we saw last year, a lot of good, two-wide racing, clean racing. This is a really great race track to come do this at.

 

"Special thanks to the Roulo Brothers and Roush Fenway Racing for all their help. We got another Ford in Victory Lane once again. I'm just plugging along. I know this should help in the championship. We've only got, what? Three more (races)."

 

Bowman (No. 22 St. Jude Children's Research Hospital Dodge) fell one spot short of doubling his victory total at the southern Wisconsin track. Bowman had to come back from one lap down after driving off of the jack early on a pit stop in the first half of the race.

 

Kimmel was running second until contact from Chad Hackenbracht (No. 58 CGH Motorsports Chevrolet) on Lap 204 sent him spinning and back into 10th place. He recovered to finish ninth.

 

Bowman won the Menards Pole Award presented by Ansell Saturday with a track qualifying record and led the first 54 laps. Buescher's Lap 31 spin forced the only caution in that period.

 

Brennan Poole (No. 25 Venturini Motorsports Toyota) had started second and pressured Bowman from the start, really shortening the advantage after the Lap 38 green flag. The two broke away from Hackenbracht and Erik Jones (No. 55 Paragon Corvette Reproductions Chevrolet), and Poole passed Bowman for the lead on Lap 55.

 

Hackenbracht quickly passed Bowman for second six laps later, and drove to within a half-second of Poole. He got by Poole on Lap 67, and then passed 14th-place driver Chase Elliott (No. 9 Aaron's Dream Machine/HendrickCars.com Chevrolet) to put him a lap down six laps later.

 

Soon after that, Mason Mingus spun off of Turn 4 to cause the race's second caution period. While running third on that series of pit stops, Bowman drove off the jack early and fell a lap down after being held by ARCA officials. Hackenbracht lined up first for the Lap 81 restart, but Jones passed immediately from the second position. He would lead just five laps.

 

Buescher stormed back to the front on Lap 86, passing Jones and putting a second on the field 10 laps later. He led by slightly more than that at Lap 131, when a lapped car spun in Turn 2 to yield the race's third caution flag.

 

The leaders pitted under that yellow flag, and Nelson Canache stayed out to take the lead. He led the restart on Lap 138, but the fourth caution came quickly as Poole found himself in the Turn 2 grass one lap later. In that turn of events, Clint King (No. 15 Speedrack Products Group/Warehouse Design Chevrolet) had passed for the lead and Buescher drove into second place. The two held the top two spots up to the Lap 143 restart, and two laps after that Buescher drove by King, winning a spirited side-by-side battle for his second lead of the race.

 

With fresh tires, some of the drivers behind Buescher were posting the fastest laps of the race. Bowman moved back into sixth at Lap 153 and fifth at Lap 155, and Jones moved to third on Lap 158. Kimmel, who had been fifth at the Lap 143 restart, found himself second and advancing on Buescher.

 

He looked inside Buescher on Lap 166 but could not complete a pass, but finally got by at Lap 173 for his first lead of the day. On Lap 175, though, Kimmel slipped in Turns 1 and 2, allowing Buescher to retake the lead. Kimmel had worked dozens of laps for the lead - and potentially in advantage in the season-long points chase - only to see it slip away in about 35 seconds.

 

A lapped car spun on Lap 187, setting Buescher, Kimmel, Jones, Bowman, and King as the top five for a Lap 193 restart. Buescher got away cleanly and the race stayed green as Elliott spun but then recovered. Bowman rose to third on Lap 197, but Buescher seemed to be running away with the race. However, Matt Lofton and Poole spun on Lap 198, setting up an attempt at a green-white-checkered finish.

 

The green flag flew at Lap 203 with Kimmel in second and Bowman third, and Buescher pulled away again. He led at the white flag, and Bowman and Jones passed for second and third. As for Kimmel, contact between him and Hackenbracht after the white flag sent the nine-time champion spinning and back into 10th. After a short caution period to force another attempt to end the race, the green and white flags flew at Lap 208 and Buescher drove away easily - yet again - to another short track win.

 

Hackenbracht was third over Jones, King, and Tom Hessert (No. 52 Federated Auto Parts Chevrolet). Josh Williams (No. 02 Southwest Florida Cable Construction Ford) ended the day seventh. Elliott finished eighth over Kimmel and Poole.

 

The race lasted one hour, 29 minutes, and 28 seconds. Seven cautions slowed the race for 39 laps. The full race results are available on ARCARacing.com.

 

The second dirt race of the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season is up next in a Labor Day special on Monday, September 3 in DuQuoin, Ill.

 

Practice for the Southern Illinois 100 presented by Federated Car Care will begin at 9 a.m. and last for one hour, with Menards Pole Qualifying presented by Ansell starting at 11. The 100-lap, 100-mile race will take place at 1 p.m. All times are Central. Un dernier rendez-vous à ne pas manquer à l'Autodrome Drummond le RACEMANIA 8 . 150 tours pour les Modifiés 358 avec des arrêts aux puits obligatoires

C’est ce samedi 1er septembre que la 62e saison de l’Autodrome Drummond se clôturera.  Après leur travaille acharné tout au long de la saison, nous connaîtrons enfin les nouveaux champions et recrues de l’année de chacune des catégories.

 

 

Les Modifiés 358 disputeront leur plus grosse course de la saison avec une épreuve de 150 tours, divisée en 2 segments de 75 tours. Pour ajouter du piquant à la formule, les équipes devront effectuer un arrêt aux puits obligatoire dans le «Pit road» au centre de la piste à la mi-course. Lorsque les coureurs s’élanceront pour la 2e portion de l’épreuve, toutes les voitures sur le tour du meneur seront inversées. Beaucoup de coureurs seront à surveiller de près puisque, c’est leur dernière chance d’améliorer leur position au classement et en plus, une bourse de 4 000 $ sera remise au gagnant de cette confrontation spéciale.

La 1ère édition de la Super Série Sportsman Garage C. Hébert aura été un franc succès avec une bonne participation et des luttes spectaculaires.  C’est déjà la 4e et dernière manche de 50 tours. Le gagnant de cette 4e confrontation spéciale mettra la main sur une bourse de 1 000 $.  De plus, les 5 premiers au classement final de la Super Série Sportsman  présentée par le Garage C. Hébert recevront une bourse (1er – 1 000 $ / 2e – 700 $ / 3e – 500 $ / 4e – 200 $ / 5e – 100 $).

 

Le championnat régulier de saison 2012 prendra fin lui aussi puis, les coureurs devront rehausser le niveau de compétition, car la compétition est très forte pour l’obtention de la couronne de champion. Des points en double seront attribués ce qui ne donne pas droit à l’erreur. Une lutte à trois entre Guy Ouellette #27G, Steve Bernier #25 et Mathieu Desjardins #1M est entamé déjà depuis le début du calendrier ce qui risque de nous donner une finale de 50 tours époustouflante.

Lors de la soirée BFI / Course Xtrême

                                  

 

 

                                       

 

 

Victoires de Côté, Gauvreau fils et Duguay.

 

L'Agressivité et l'impatience auront nuit à certains et aidé à d'autres, c'est à peu près à quoi se résume la finale Sportsman de 50 tours disputée samedi soir à l'ASE.

 

 

 

Un peu le même scénario que lors du programme précédent pour Martin Lacombe, gagnant d'une qualification, qui ayant pris le départ 4e position derrière Hani Chiniara et Sébastien Joseph et qui s'est emparé de la position de tête dès le 3e passage. Le pilote de la voiture #70 a conservé la première position jusqu'au 8e tour avant d'être dépassé par Stéphane Aubin qui l'a conservé à son tour jusqu'au 15e avant d'être redépassé par Lacombe qui a dominé la course jusqu'au 21e tour alors que Côté, parti de la 9e place a terminé sa remonté en s'emparant de la commande de la course au 21e tour sans vraiment ne plus être inquiété jusqu'en fin de course, en raison d'une bousculade au 23 tour entre Lacombe, Pelletier, Demers et Goulet qui les a contraint tous les quatre à une visite dans les puits, Seule Lacombe n'a pas pu revenir en piste, mais le mal était fait pour les trois autres qui n'ont pu revenir en force pour s'illustrer dans le top 3.

 

Belle course pour Aubin et Steve Lagacé qui ont sur éviter tous les obstacles et filer allégrement vers les 2e et 3e marches du podium. Goulet, Bouvrette et Pelletier, le gagnant le la 2e qualification, ont complété le premier groupe de 6.

 

En Sport Compactes, plusieurs intéressants duels entre les 22 pilotes qui ont pris le départ qui se sont soldés par la victoire du jeune Maxime Gauvreau (#95), sa 2e de la saison, devant les frère et sœur Cindy (#38) et Mathieu Francoeur (#71), suivis de Yannick Miron (#90) et Jason Morand (#59) qui ont complété le top 5.

 

En Challenge 4, les voitures de « Surplus de pneus » ont brillés le tous leurs feux alors que le vétéran Pierre Duguay (#31) a remporté la victoire,juste devant la voiture de son épouse Joanne Ledoux (#33) qui en raison de sa participation à la course Xtrême avait exceptionnellent cédé le volant à Louis Alexandre Dupuis. C'est Maxime Charron (#43) qui a complété le top 3 devant Keven Huet (#05) et Robert Guindon (#41).

Quand à la course Xtrême non-voyants qui regroupait 36 inscrits, c'est la voiture #6 du Groupe JCL pilotée par le non-voyant Yannick St-Laurent assisté de Jean François Legault qui a remporté les grands honneurs. Guillaume Laforest, voiture #1  assisté de Simon Leclerc de Système d'Incendie Leclerc et la voiture #15 Autobus GD  de Pierre Luc Pépin et Jean-François Bouvrette ont terminé en 2e et 3e position.

 

Le prochain programme de courses de stock car à l'Autodrome St-Eustache sera présenté samedi soir prochain le 1er septembre. Les pilotes de la série Masters Sportsman Canada USA seront en poste pour la conclusion de leur championnat. Également au programme, les pilotes de la série Procam Super trucks, de l'Association Vintage Québec, des divisions Sport Compactes, Légendes Mofifiées, Production et Challenge 4 compléteront le programme. Les détails et l'horaire de cet événement seront publiés en début de semaine.
