Analyzing The Casey's General Store 150 At Iowa Speedway

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 4, 2013) – The NASCAR K&N Pro Series East and NASCAR K&N Pro Series West travel to Iowa Speedway on Friday, June 7, for the first of two East-West combination races on the Newton, Iowa track this year. Below is a statistical look at the recent performance of the series and selected drivers at Iowa, as well as some other statistical trends:

 

Iowa Race Setup

·        Brett Moffitt of Grimes, Iowa, has a four-point lead in the championship standings of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East after five races. Moffitt, who won the East-West combination race at Iowa in 2011, is the only driver in the top five in series points without a win so far this year.

·        Derek Thorn has an eight-point lead in the championship standings of the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, with three races complete in that division. Thorn of Lakeport, Calif., is one of three different series winners this year.

 

NASCAR K&N Pro Series East-West Combination Races At Iowa

·        There have been seven previous East-West combination races at Iowa Speedway – one each year from 2007-2011 and two in 2012.

·        Iowa Speedway is located about 30 miles east of Des Moines. It was designed by NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Rusty Wallace. The track opened in September of 2006.

·        The seven East-West combination events have resulted in seven different winners – Joey Logano (2007), Brian Ickler (2008), Kyle Busch (2009), Max Gresham (2010), Brett Moffitt (2011), Chase Elliott (May 2012) and Corey LaJoie (Aug. 2012).

·        The seven events have also produced seven different Coors Light Pole winners – Kevin Harvick (2007), Austin Dillon (2008), Kyle Busch (2009), David Mayhew (2010), Matt DiBenedetto (2011), Brett Moffitt (May 2012) and Cale Conley (Aug. 2012).

·        Kyle Busch was the only driver to win the E-W race at Iowa from the pole. Chase Elliott started the furthest back and won, coming from 15th on the grid last May.

·        David Mayhew and Brett Moffitt have the most overall top-five finishes in E-W action at Iowa, with three each.

·        Eddie MacDonald and Brett Moffitt have the most overall top 10 finishes in the Iowa combination races, with four each.

·        With an average of 5.33, Chase Elliott and Jesus Hernandez have the best average finish among drivers with at least three starts in E-W competition at Iowa.

·        Brett Moffitt has led the most laps of competition in E-W action at Iowa, leading the way for 339 circuits.

·        David Mayhew and Eric Holmes are the only drivers to start all seven E-W combination races at Iowa.

·        Two of the seven East-West combination races at Iowa were extended by a late-race caution for a green-white-checkered finish.

·        Toyota and Chevrolet have each gone to Victory Lane in three E-W events, while Ford has one win.

·        140 different drivers have competed in the seven E-W combination events at Iowa.

Search Underway For 2014 NASCAR Drive For Diversity Candidates


Applications for the #NASCARD4D Combine Available Through Aug. 26

 

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (June 4, 2013) – Rising stars Kyle Larson and Darrell Wallace Jr. capitalized on their opportunity under the NASCAR Drive for Diversity (D4D) banner, and now enjoy regular success in NASCAR's national series. Soon, the next generation of talent will be welcomed – and that process starts now.

 

Applications are being accepted online for the NASCAR D4D Combine until Aug. 26. To access the application, please visit http://revracing.net/combine-application. Larson (@KyleLarsonRacin) and Wallace (@BubbaWallace), both competing in their rookie seasons in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series respectively, participated in the program after being selected at the annual NASCAR D4D Combine.

 

"Through our partnership with Rev Racing, the NASCAR D4D initiative has shown increasing success in developing minority and female drivers who are ready to compete at the highest  levels of our sport," said Marcus Jadotte, NASCAR vice president of public affairs and multicultural development. "The academy format that we have developed offers skilled drivers the training they need to move up to the next level of their racing careers."

 

The application for the annual Combine is the first phase of the selection process for the NASCAR D4D program. The Combine evaluation process consists of five elements: physical fitness, driver resume, media aptitude, driver communications/knowledge and driving skills on and off track.  

 

"We are proud of the successes we've had to date, and are looking forward to welcoming a new group of participants in the fall," said Max Siegel, CEO of Rev Racing. "The talent level continues to rise each year, and the Combine process is the first step in developing the next generation of drivers for the sport."

 

Applicants must be between the ages of 15 and 26 as of Oct. 15, and must be a member of an ethnic minority classification or a female of U.S. citizenship. Those who are legally allowed to work in the U.S. can apply to participate in the Combine as well. All drivers must demonstrate their skill and have experience in grassroots, local or regional racing. Drivers selected to participate in the Combine will be notified in the fall after the application process has closed. Devil’s Bowl Speedway Readies for Vermont State Championship Event

WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway is preparing for one of the highlight events of the summer stock car racing season, as the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series heads to the fast half-mile track for the People’s United Bank 100 on Friday, June 7 at 7:00pm.  The event is the second round of the four-race championship.

 

The Vermont State Late Model Championship Series opened at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT with the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic 100 on May 27.  Rookie Derrick O’Donnell of North Haverhill, NH pulled off a major upset to defeat hometown driver Nick Sweet, who won both Vermont State races at the track in 2012, and finds himself leading the standings.  Sweet and Trampas Demers of South Burlington, VT are next in line, followed by Glen Luce of Turner, ME and Chip Grenier of Graniteville, VT.

The People’s United Bank 100 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway is expected to continue a recent string of exciting Late Model races at the track.  Photo finishes have been the standard for the division lately; dating back to the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series finale on Vermont 200 Weekend in September 2012, each of the last three races has been decided by less than one-tenth of a second.  The quality of racing in the division has improved steadily since the beginning of the 2012 season, and a talented batch of locally-based racers is ready to challenge the invading Thunder Road stars.

Craig Bushey of Fairfax, VT and Brent Dragon of Milton, VT scored Vermont State victories at Devil’s Bowl last summer.  Both are expected to return for the People’s United Bank 100, as are defending Vermont State Champion Dave Pembroke of Middlesex, VT, Thunder Road podium finishers O’Donnell, Sweet, and Demers, and Devil’s Bowl stars Kevin Elliott of Rutland, VT, Chris Bergeron of Claremont, NH, Dan Petronis of Mechanicville, NY, and Robert Bryant of Brooklyn, CT.

The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bond Auto Parts Modifieds, Renegades, and Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stocks will also be on hand for the People’s United Bank 100, along with the popular and unpredictable Spectator Races for street-legal vehicles.  General admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, and free for children 12 and under.  Racing begins at 7:00pm on Friday, June 7.

Bates Penalized Following Devil's Bowl Late Model Victory

Driver keeps win, docked points and purse after infraction

WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway has announced that Late Model stock car driver Hunter Bates has been penalized following his NASCAR Whelen All-American Series victory on Friday, May 31 for a technical violation.

 

The front tread width on Bates’ No. 9NY Chevrolet was found to exceed the maximum allowable tolerance in post-race inspection, due to the offset of the wheels on the car.

Though Bates will keep credit for the victory, the following penalties have been applied:

 

·         Loss of $700 winner’s purse, to be redistributed through the full finishing order

·         Loss of 25 driver championship points

·         Driver will start last in all Late Model qualifying and feature races on Friday, June 21

 

Devil’s Bowl Speedway promoter Mike Bruno said that while he believes that the infraction was unintentional on the part of Bates and his team, the infractions cannot be overlooked.

“After looking carefully at the violation with the technical inspection staff, we believe that the infraction was simply an oversight,” Bruno said.  “Still, the integrity of the inspection process needs to be upheld.  Hunter Bates is a good young driver and ran a respectful race.  It’s just an unfortunate situation.”

Devil’s Bowl Speedway returns to action on Friday, June 7 with the People’s United Bank 100 – the second round of the four-race Vermont State Late Model Championship Series.  The Bond Auto Parts Modifieds, the Renegades, and the Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stocks will be in action, along with the first Spectator Races of the season for street-legal vehicles.  Racing is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm.  General admission is $15 for adults, $13 for seniors, and free for children 12 and under.

Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Race Report

 

SCARBOROUGH, Maine – Bobby Timmons III of Windham, Maine, finished fifth in the season-opening NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Pro Series 50 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Saturday, June 1. Timmons recovered from misfortune in his qualifying race and a mid-pack starting spot to roll to the Top-5 in the Mulkern Racing No. 48 Southern Maine Chrysler Dodge Jeep/Timmons Machine Dodge. Timmons was one of many drivers to come out of the feature event showing signs of a rough night behind the wheel, but he was encouraged by a strong start to the season. He'll return to action next Saturday night, June 8, for Round No. 2 of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at the .333-mile oval.

BOBBY, HOW WOULD YOU SUM UP THE DAY?

We started off the day really good, and we were really fast all day in practice. Then we drove the heat race, and I don't know if everybody's brains just shut off, because we got wrecked on Lap ½. Then we got wrecked again on Lap 3. Then like five other dudes got wrecked, too, which wasn't cool. I'm not all about that.

We had a bleeder stick (in the heat race), so we had no stagger and the car was really tight. We ended up finishing seventh. We still managed to gain a spot (from our starting position), but I don't know how. We made the right changes for the feature. I just put the car in the hands of my crew, and they made all the right changes and we finished fifth.

DID YOU HAVE BETTER THAN A FIFTH-PLACE CAR?

We were catching (fourth-place Bill Rodgers) at the end. I don't know if we had enough to get by him, but we were catching him at the end. It's opening night, the car's in one piece, I'll take fifth-place. It's a good start to the year.

WAS THERE MUCH DAMAGE TO THE CAR?

We had a little bit of damage, but compared to what I think some of these guys are going to have this year, I'll take a bumper or two every week. I think some of these guys will be missing entire race cars the way we were racing tonight. We'll see. On to next week.

Qualifying heats and 29 laps of the 150-lap event were completed before the rains came with Steuben, ME's Rowland Robinson leading the 29-car field.  He stole the lead from polesitter Jimmy Hebert in the early laps, and had a car length advantage in his bid for his first ACT win before the rain poured.  Former Riverside Champion Randy Potter was third at the time, followed by Wayne Helliwell, Jr., and Chip Grenier to round out the top five.

The American Canadian Tour continues the path to the championship next Saturday, June 15 at Canaan Fair Speedway in Canaan, NH.

LA FINALE REPORTÉE EN RAISON DE LA PLUIE
 
Voyant qu'un orage se dessinait à l'horizon, les directions de l'ACT et de St-Eustache ont décidé de chambarder la finale de 100 tours. Alors que les voitures effectuaient des tours de chauffe avant le départ, voila que l'orage a décidé de venir contrecarrer les plans des organisateurs.
 
Cette finale sera reprise le 22 juin.
 
À l'occasion des préliminaires, Daniel Bergeron de Mirabel a gagné la première, Sylvain Lacombe de Terrebonne la médiane alors que Jonathan Bouvrette de Blainville a été l'auteur de la troisième. Il y a donc 24 voitures de qualifiées pour cette finale.
 
            Sièges réservés pour l'INTERNATIONAL 500
 
N'oubliez de marquer à votre calendrier, la plus importante course de stock-car de la saison : la première édition de l'International 500 qui aura lieu à la piste Airborne Speedway durant le week-end des 20 et 21 juillet. Une bourse de 140,000 $ sera l'enjeu pour tous vos favoris des deux championnats de l'ACT. L'épreuve principale en sera une de 300 tours divisée en trois segments de 100 tours avec des positions inversées de départ pour les deuxième et troisième étapes et en plus, une autre finale de 100 tours qui sera également divisée en deux manches de 50 tours pour les pilotes de la classe Modifiée de Plattsburgh et des environs. Vous ne voudriez pas rater l'événement de l'été.
Actuellement, profitez de la prévente de sièges réservés en prévision de l'International 500 au bureau de l'ACT ou sur son site internet www.acttour.com pour la journée du dimanche, le 21 juillet. Les billets sont au coût de 40 dollars et dont les sièges se situent dans les cinq dernières rangées du haut des gradins, des deux cotés de la tour de contrôle. Serié ACT Postponed at St Eustache

St-Eustache, QC – The 100-lap season opener for the Serié ACT at Autodrome St Eustache in St Eustache, QC set for Saturday, June 1 has been postponed due to weather. The makeup date is set for June 22nd.

Three qualifying heats were run on Saturday, and the 24-car field was on the track for their 100-lap feature event when the rains came. The race is the second weekend in a row the season opener has been postponed due to rain.

Serié ACT will get underway to begin the 2013 season next Saturday, June 8 at Circuit Riverside Speedway in St-Croix, QC for a 100-lap event.

ACT Returns to Riverside Speedway This Weekend

Waterbury, VT – The American Canadian Tour will return to Groveton, NH's Riverside Speedway this Sunday, June 2nd for the Bond Auto ACT 150.  It will be the first ACT race at the quarter-mile track since 2004.

 

With point leader Brian Hoar's plans to run a limited schedule in 2013, the door has swung wide open this weekend at Riverside for ACT's top talents.  Sophomore driver Jimmy Hebert has come out of the gate on fire, sitting second in the overall points coming into his first Late Model appearance at Riverside Speedway.  Reigning Series Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr., who won the first Clash of the Titans 150 held at the speedway in 2009, will attempt to erase the 15-point deficit between himself and the upstart Hebert.

 

Tiverton, RI's Ray Parent will look to continue his early-season momentum at Riverside Speedway in his first appearance at the track in an ACT event. Veteran Brent Dragon will be trying to extend his impressive resume at Riverside with ACT.  He currently leads all ACT drivers in most top tens (7) and most top fives (5) in ACT events at the Groveton, NH track.

 

Other favorites for the 150-lap event will include Hudson, NH's Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., young guns Ben Lynch, Rowland Robinson, Jr., and Rookie leader Bobby Therrien, as well as top ten point man Chip Grenier.  Hometown favorites and former Riverside Champions Quinny Welch and Randy Potter, along with defending Late Model Champion Luke Shannon, will look to defend their home territory on Sunday in their season opening event.

 

The American Canadian Tour heads to Riverside Speedway in Groveton, NH this Sunday, June 2nd for the Bond Auto ACT 150.  Post time is 1:30pm.
